Upgrading IBM netvista bios without running in windows.......Can it be done?

Q: Upgrading IBM netvista bios without running in windows.......Can it be done?

I have an Ibm Netvista 2257-82u
1.0mghz processor
40 gig h.d.
Intel 810e onboard video..etc

The system is in a continuous boot mode it makes it to the Winxp
Startup screen.....and then it starts over........and over and over.
I was wondering if maybe updating the system bios might fix the problem. Iv'e tried running with a new harddrive and I still get the same problem.

sometimes when I put a harddrive in that is loaded with windows 98se, I can get it to boot up in safe mode but not with Xp.

Can a virus cause this problem? Can a virus reside in the hardware on the motherboard? If so how can I fix it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:upgrades bios on netvista 6342 now won't boot

possible that you corrupted the bios either with an unsuccesful flash or the wrong bios.

Either way, there should be a button on the physical motherboard to restore all default settings.

I just got a new mobo (Gigabyte 990FXA-UB3) and a new CPU (AMD FX-6100). Gigabyte has been telling everyone that in order to use these components together, one must update the BIOS with your old processor (for me, a Phenom II x4) for the new processor to work. How does one go about doing this? I don't understand how you update the BIOS for one processor to work with another. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

A:Satellite C660-125 - Unable to access BIOS after Upgrading to Windows 10

You need to install the Toshiba System Driver for Windows 10.
However the C660 doesnt appear to be in the supported list, so you may need to go into the BIOS instead.

Hold SHIFT during shutdown to stop Windows from entering Hybrid Suspend Mode. Keep on holding SHIFT until the power LED turns off.
The F2 BIOS message only appears if the notebook does a cold boot.

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

What power profile do you have? check your power options, if its high performance, change it to balanced or power saver.
If its still not going down, go to:
Control panel > power options > change plan settings (on the right of the profile) > change advanced power settings

Go to the bottom and look at the "Processor power management: Minimum processor state" and make sure its at 1%.

If it still not going down, you will probably have to enter the laptop's bios, and make sure the C1E state or intel speed step is enabled within the processor settings.

My first time here, I really hope someone can help me.
Have an IBM Netvista type 2257 Model 82u. Intel Celeron 1.0Ghz,128 mgb's ram, 40 gig. harddrive Running windows xp.

The original problem I had was a message that would come up after the Windows Xp start up screen, It read windows root\system 32\ntoskrnl. exe missing or corrupt please restart computer.

I would restart and It would do the same thing over and over,
I tried a safe mode startup and that didn't work either.
I did a system recovery with my service partition and I didn't get
the error message again. But, Everytime the computer was started it would reach the Win Xp startup screen and then Reboot or freeze up. I think My service Partition might have become corrupt somehow. And I don't have a system recovery cd.
It came preloaded from the factory.

I took the computer to a freind of mine and we installed a different hard drive, loaded an OEM copy of Windows 98se.
It did it's setup thing with no problems, but when the system rebooted after setup we could only run in safemode.

I didn't realize it at the time but My friend had inadvertantly formatted the hard drive to do the installation, and in doing so he destroyed my service partition.

I don't know what to do ...It seems like it might have a problem on the motherboard....I ran some system diagnostics on it that I got From IBM and everything passed. Help what can I do?

Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

I bought Windows 7 having come from Vista. However, there is a BIOS update for my system. The new BIOS update states: The BIOS updates the fan control algorithm of the system, and turns the fan on at low volume while your notebook PC is operational. If you are currently experiencing any symptoms on your notebook PC, please contact HP for support. It is located here:

I'd love to flash it but not sure if it will ruin my computer as it's more than likely not designed for flash when Windows 7 is on it or do you's know any better?

I also have 2 blue vertical lines going do the right hand side of the screen. I've seen loads of problems but no solutions. Has any fixed this HP problem?

Cheers folks!

A:Upgrading BIOS after Upgrading from Vista to 7

The BIOS is the stuff that happens BEFORE Windows starts to load.
Do you have issues with overheating or with the fan? If so, the BIOS update is for you.
Also, BIOS flashes are dangerous - and you can turn your computer into a paperweight by doing it incorrectly. In short, if it ain't broke - don't fix it!

The type of lines that you describe on your screen are usually caused by hardware issues. Send it in for repair if the system is under warranty. If not, then get an estimate from a local computer store - it may be cheaper to live with it.

And I see it doesn't recognize the video card either - just uses Standard VGA Graphics Adapter which seems to work fine...

I'm wondering if I should get the BIOS update from Acer for my laptop.
I've been having some audio stutter issues that seem to be fixed by disabling the LAN from 'device manager' (a pretty common problem and solution, apparently).

I just wonder if getting a BIOS update will make my computer more stable, because I don't want to have to keep disabling my LAN just to stop audio stutter and, in some cases, spikes in the CPU usage.
Is it safe to update my BIOS? Would I need to back-up any data before I do it?

There is an old computer that needs to have the BIOS upgraded on it because it is very low advanced, and only gives you 3 different options in the setup. It is a very good computer, but the problem with this BIOS is that it will not recognize any hard drive over 2 gigs. I am trying to install a 15 gig in there now.

The purpose of reviving this computer is to give it to a friend who doesn't really have a computer, and I see this as a good alternative. I will also install Windows 2000 on this computer.

Now I heard that installing the incorrect BIOS software will completely DESTROY the motherboard and render it useless. Could someone point me to the correct software upgrade? I am not sure where to find the info for the BIOS either, such as the manufacturer.

I want to install 7 on my Dell XPS M1330, currently running Vista, but have hit an issue. "Windows cannot be installed on this computer with the current system BIOS version. I want to upgrade Phoenix AWARD BIOS v6.00PG. I have a Shuttle motherboard, however, the BIN number is AK32S306. Where would I find the correct BIOS upgrade, and can it be put on a floppy disk?

Hi, i am going to upgrade my award bios, i already recieved the floppy. Now directions say to enter BIOS CMOS setup, go to boot sequence and boot from Afloppy) first. Save settings and exit by pressing F-10.
I don't want to screw up so do i go to boot sequence: A,C,SCSI, and save and exit on setup page and press F-10 to exit.
Then I shutdown the system, insert floppy and reboot, so far, so good? I hope.
Now is there anything i need to do to backup in case of a bad install, if so what do i do? Does all the above seem correct also?
Thanks for any tips.

I am going through the recommended steps to upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1.  This includes upgrading the BIOS to the latest version on my HP700-430eq desktop machine which I am very happy with in every respect. My current BIOS is 80.23 9-12-2014  2AF3 SSID family.  The HP recommended upgrade is to 80.24A 8-23-2015 I have had no issues with the current BIOS.  Is upgrading the BIOS a necessity for Win10?  According to HP there is no way to reinstall the old BIOS after installing 80.24A. Would appreciate any cautions or recommendations.Thank you!

I have an old compaq presario 2275 that I thought would be fun to get running again. The problem is that when I try to reload win 98 I keep having problems since I don't have the original factory recovery disk. Does anyone have a way to reset the bios other then removing the battery? Is there a flash upgrade someone knows about? I have tried google but to no avail.

What makes you think that resetting the bios is going to help you with this situation??

I can't see what benefit it would be. You need to get an OS install disk of some flavor.

Hi guys, so recently I've been hit with an error that involved the BIOS, to cut a long story short I want to upgrade my BIOS to the latest version.

My BIOS model and version is:

(according to System Information in Windows XP)

American Megatrends Inc.07.00T, 02/04/2001
SMBios Version: 2.3

I have went directly to AMI's website but they just direct you to a software that needs to be downloaded and paid for before you cane ven use it.

I have an ECS M848A rev 2.1 motherboard. So the BIOS and Motherboard manufacturer are not the same. I've also directly been to PC Chips website and can see that the M848AULA rev 2.1 is the exact same model as I can see on the picture on the website, and can confirm that is the one.

I'd like to know how I can found the right BIOS version for my system.

Hi all,

I have an old HP G6000 laptop that I have wiped, put XP on and replaced the faulty Wifi card inside it.

The laptop is not detecting the card, not even as an unknown device in device manager and I was wondering if updating the BIOS would help?

The problem is, the HP site only lists BIS upgrades for Vista and I was wondering if I could upgrade the BIOS using the Vista upgrade or do I need to use an XP one?

I'd check the BIOS to see if something didn't reset or become disabled, first off.

The is the boot part
The autoexec.bat and config.sys files are for autoloading drivers and commands (not required)

Quote from here:

However, you will need to have AFLASH.EXE (unzipped) utiility and set the floppy drive as the boot drive. Then, type in the command [ FORMAT A:/S ] (without [] brackets) in DOS mode to create a boot disk. Do not keep AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files in it; Later on, choose item [1] ?Save Current BIOS to File (Save Existing BIOS to File) screen will appear. Then, when you see the query for filename appears, please insert a filename (eg. A:\XXX-XX.XXX ) and hit .Click to expand...

Here's your Drivers page (and bios too) again:

Or use this way (preferred, in case you have mx and you don't know it)
Please press the green button, and select your drivers

Sorry, it seems you must do this twice, once here, then when you get to Asus support, click it again. This button uses JavaScript (which is enabled by default on most browsers)

I have a T500 (2081CTO) running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and am preparing to upgrade to W10. The Lenovo Windows 10 docs I've read say to upgrade to the most recent BIOS before upgrading. My current BIOS is version 3.22 (6FET92WW) dated 2011. Despite Lenovo System Update v5.07.0029 NOT displaying any BIOS updates, when I happened to check Lenovo's site for drivers & software I see that Version 3.23 (BIOS ID: 6FET93WW) update is available. It is not described as "Important" and only offers "Added support for the function to disable & unconfigure AMT via WMI". I'm not sure if SU is failing to offer the update, or if has good reason not to offer it. I've also read that some people have had issues with v3.23 and needed to revert to the previous 3.22 version. Is the newer version "really" required to perform the W10 upgrade? Frank

I was getting a system crash with my new GTX 770 when I had a 600w PSU with 34amps on the rail.

So I upgraded my PSU to 750w (CX750M) with 62amps on the rail. The GTX 770 requires that it has 42amps. So my 62amps is enough.

But I'm still getting system crashes when playing a game.

Any solution?

The specs for the Dell insiron 5100 say that maximum ram is 1 GB. however this does not necessairlly mean that you can use a single 1Gb stick. it may be that your laptop has to have TWO 512 sticks to run at 1 Gb of ram. I would suggest checking your dell handbook or going to the dell site to see how large of a single stick of ram the laptop can use.

I had a new motherboard FIC VL13L and Celeron 2.2G. But the motherboard has a older version of BIOS which can only support Celeron 2.0G. I tried to upgrade the BIOS but it requires a supported CPU, which I don't have. How can I solve the dilemma?

Another problem is before I realized the incompatibility between the motherboard and the CPU, I installed CPU + fan and powered up for several times. Then when I removed CPU and fan, they were stuck together and couldn't be seperated. Is that the way it's supposed to be, or did I damage them already?

A:Difficulty upgrading bios on a Nforce2 chipset

If the "latest" BIOS revision is 2004, then you may not be able to upgrade .

Most (if not all) BIOS are tied to a board/chipset/manufacturer combination, and I doubt if it's prudent to go "BIOS shopping" and install an alien piece of firmware in your beloved board. It sounds like a recipe for disaster,

The RAID controllers you speak off should be based in hardware as well, and your board simply may not have the capabilities you want.

It's way easy to turn a board into a brick with an improper BIOS flash, even the right update.

I realize that I'm no fun, sorry. Maybe someone else knows more about this than I do.

A quick google leads me to believe that the Phoenix Corporation manufacturers "Award BIOS", and that they're really not 2 separate entities. But here again, things change fast in tech products.
Here's the answer, they've merged:

Dear forum users,
I have a big problem as my Dell Inspiron15 3000 series laptp started to behave strangely since I updated the bios from the version on the dell drivers and support website.

I upgraded to the V12 version Dell Inspiron 3442,3542,5748 System BIOS Version: A12 ,A12, when originally the laptop came with version A06.

However, since the upgrade, my laptop battery drains after I have switched the laptop off. Therefore I'm having all kinds of issues starting the laptop in the morning and I am afraind this behaviour will lead to a disfunctioning laptop rather soon.
Downgrading the bios version to version A06 is not possible as the utility exists with the message that Dell doesn't recommend downgrading the BIOS version.
What can I do?

MisterZ Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... According to the HP product page, the ONLY BIOS update version available is from back in 2011 and that was for Win7, not even Win8, and certainly -- NOT for Win10.  BIOS corruption is serious -- REALLY serious -- to the degree that this is probably NOT fixable, at least, without paying a LOT of money to a certified repair facility to reflash the BIOS chip in your desktop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try: But, if these don't work (and they probably will NOT), your only recourse will be to pay someone to reflash the BIOS in your desktop.  Here is information on  HP Service Centers: Luck

Hello JapanGuy, welcome to Seven Forums.

We would recommend upgrading to Windows 7 using Upgrade method since you have Windows Vista Home Premium on your laptop.
Your PC are compatible with Windows 7. If your laptop's CPU supports NX, your PC are also compatible with Windows 8.

If you want to upgrade to Windows 8 from Vista, you should use Custom (advanced) option. Which didn't preserve your data. Or upgrade to Windows 7 first, then Windows 8 using Upgrade option.

If you have Windows 7 installation disc, follow the tutorial linked below.

Hello everyone I have a not screen, bios Win10 Satellite upgrading, booting C850D-10W - black two-year old Toshiba C D- W which came with Win Premium After several months of flashing notices suggesting to Satellite C850D-10W - Win10 upgrading, black screen, bios not booting upgrade to Win I decided to give it a go I was Satellite C850D-10W - Win10 upgrading, black screen, bios not booting dumb enough not to check whether my laptop would support such upgrade and I discovered only too late that it wouldn't on the official website What happened is that during the installation process about halfway through maybe I got a message saying that the system would restart many times The problem is it never got beyond the stage of restarting and the system is now in a loop whereby a fixed unblinking underscore appears on the upper left corner and stays there for about five seconds Then the system restarts and the underscore shows up again and so on forever no Toshiba logos no chance to select Safe Mode nothing I can enter the BIOS menu and I've tried to boot the system from the back-up DVDs I made when I bought the computer so I could get back to Windows but it doesn't work the system just doesn't recognise it The HDD is fine I've taken it out and opened it on another computer as if it were an external drive and all the files are still there but I can't do anything else Any help would much apprectiated thanks a lot

This cute little all-in-one computer is not booting properly, or when you do get it up, it gets a black screen of death and is locked up. I have never worked on one of these. Does anyone have a similar experience, and did you find the problem?

I Have an 2.4 ghz p 4 IBM netvista. I have the case open while I am installing a few hard drives and have noticed that when I turn the machine on, both the case fan and the cpu fan start to spin and then turn off. This worries me as do not want the cpu to overheat (the fan is on top of a heat sink). Could this be happening because the case is open and it is not too hot, or should the two fans be constantly spinning? Please help so that I do not blow up this machine. Thanks.

After installing windows i went ahead and installed the service pack 2 when that was done i went into the device manager and check to see if i had any problems with the hardware and i did they are the ethernet controller and video controller (VGA compatible) both have exclamation mark and question mark. I went to the ibm website and downloaded the drivers but that didnt work. Please help thanks!

Do you use Everest? It can tell you the specific drivers you need by displaying the make and model of the parts.

happy holidays everyone

Well this problem occurred on christmas day (yesterday), i had placed a mini-disk into my cd burner and the disk fell in...i had opened the computer up and disconnected the cd burner and managed to get the disk out, i attached everything back into the cd burner and closed up the base. When i started up the computer, I got an error message : 184 Antenna something...but it was saying something not functioning. My computer runs the same as it was before the error message but I just want to get rid of the message because it's annoying when i'm starting up the computer and it takes me the screen then takes me to an another screen and from there the boot continues...any help?

My computer is an IBM NetVista, Pentium 3, 930 MHz, 192 MB of RAM and 27 GB of hard drive space...if any of this is needed...thanks

I have a Netvista that will not stay on. When you turn it on it switches off after a few minutes. Sometimes it will boot all the way and stay on for an hour or so.

I have replaced the power supply, reseated all the stuff connected to the motherboard and still the same problem. The only way to get it to stay on is to remove the 12V power connector from the motherboard, then it will stay on for hours but the machine does not boot with this connection removed.

All of the drivers should be available from the manufacturers website. You simply need the brand and model.

I have upgraded the bios from pikt30aud to pikt35aus but that didn't help. Anyone have an idea on how to make the device selection list appear in the bios settings? thx a bunch

I recently purchased an IBM Netvista 8305-G7U from a local auction, current specs are P4 2.4GHZ 512 DDR PC2100. I have purchased and tried 2GB DDR PC2700, and 1 GB DDR PC2100. Both are listed as supported on the IBM website but neither will boot. I just get a series of beeps when I turn the machine on. Both types of ram were purchased after using a system scanner on and IBM states that the max supported per dimm is 1GB, I have yet to exceed the 2GB tried. I tried a registry fix where you can adjust the max supported within windows, and that didnt work either. I am down to trying a 4th different ram or getting rid of the system.

I have looked around and really havent found a good answer so I figured I would try here aswell, any help would be nice. Thank You.

Does anyone have the POST codes for the IBM NetVista A20 (model 6270P7U)? The BIOS number shown with PC Certify is Rev PUKT19AUS. Is this an IBM BIOS or something else? I'm getting a steady cose of b7 (or L9 depending on how you look at it.

Thanks in advance!

then... nothing happens. It is an IBM netvista with a Pentium 4 and W2K Pro. It isn't the hard drive, because I took another hard drive out of a working NetVista of the same type and trying that in the non working one with the same result.

I'm stuck...
