New HDD causing Windows Protection Fault?

Q: New HDD causing Windows Protection Fault?

Hi
I got a new 40Gb hard drive to add to the 10Gb in an Athlon 550Mhz machine(MSI motherboard, haven't looked up exactly what, it was an Advent machine)
So I install the new drive as slave to the old one, the BIOS recognises it but when Windows loads up it doesn't. So I created a startup disk and ran fdisk, which was able to format the new drive and create a partition no problem.
So when I try to get back into windows, it displays a 'General Protection Fault' and shuts down the PC. The computer's booting from the old driv so I don't know how the new drive can stop it from booting. When I go back into Fdisk and delete the partition Windows works again but still doesn't detect the new hard drive...
So any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiya

Have you got this update:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS05-008.mspx

You should be able to see it if you go to Control Panel | AddRemove and scroll down to the bottom of the list, and look for KB890047. If its not there, try installing the update.

A:General Protection Fault in module WIN87EM.DLL while Running Windows XP Mode

winfloat was designed for and only runs under the DOS based Windows
like Win3.1, not for Windows XP.

You might have to use an older OS like Windows 98 to run your 16-bit
program.

Hello. About 40 minutes ago my free AVG updated and then popped up with this:

AVGW caused a general protection fault in module mmsystem.DLL at 0004:00000db6

Since then my desktop has turned a deeper blue and some of the icons are moved. And the logo Windows98 is written across an icon.

I didn't have any trouble getting on the internet or getting here, don't know how serious it is. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you, Killkarney

Hey,

I didnt know where else to go, so i found this forum, and i hope someone can help me.

Heres the jist, i now run Windows XP. Now i recently got 2 games that i loved like 7 years ago, Transport Tycoon and Colonisation. Now these used to work perfectly on windows 95. I can run colonisation fine without any problems. However when i go to play Transport Tycoon the screen just closes on me. When i go in through DOS Prompt and run the Batch File (it runs through batch) it just pauses and i get an error:

Abnormal Program Termination: Memory Protection Fault

Is there a way to get around this, as i would really really like to play this game

Thanks

Here's an ideas page for you on how to get, hopefully, DOS games to run with XP which has no actual DOS shell which is why you're having problems.

I have a Pentium III, Windows ME computer that has been freezing up for 3-4 seconds at a time for the last couple of days. I have run Hijack This. I have McAfee, spyware blaster, spybot S&D, adaware. I just received this error message: IExplore caused a general protection fault in module User.EXE at 0003:000055ef. Please help me.

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

Hey i tried installing comanche 3 and some other games i have by novalogic and i recieved a message saying general protection fault everytime i tried to run any of the exe's for those games. I am running xp and i used to have a windows 98 i played them on. I'm wondering if there's something i can do to get them to work? I cleaned the cd's with a tissue gently but it didn't work. So i guess maybe its a compatibility issue. If you know a way to get them to work, lemme know please.

A:General Protection Fault

Hi mechmaker.
You could try them in compatibility mode.
Right click the games .exe and select properties.
Click the compatibility tab. Put a check in "Run this program in compatibility mode for", then choose an OS from the drop down list. Comanche 3 is an old Win95 game but you could try Win98 as well.

I just installed a new printer and cannot use it because I have this error message from every direction . Sometimes the commcrtl.dll error comes from msgsrv32, and sometimes from rundll32. problem is I am out of town and didn't bring my win98 software cd with me. Only the emergency boot floppy!!!!!! Isn't there a compressed back-up copy of this file hidden away somewhere in my computer ? Microsoft hides so many other things in there ! And there is no one at home to fed-ex the cd to me. Bummer.
I had some problems with my cd driver diappearing too, so have used up all my scanreg /restore options that might have an uncorrupted commctrl.dll on it. Help.

A:problem: gen. protection fault in commctrl.dll

Hiya and welcome

Go to Find Files, and type in commctrl.dll

When its found, rightclick and choose Properties. Whats the version?

Also, look to see what folder its in, and then do this:

Go to the folder via Windows Explorer. if its not showing as commctrl.dll, but as commctrl, go to Tools | Options. View tab. Untick Hidde File extensions for known file types, OK.

Then, rightclick on the commctrl.dll file, and choose rename. Rename to commctrl.old.

Download this one:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?commctrl

And place in the same folder. Restart, and see if that helps.

What are you using to join Q2 servers, the standard one when you run the game or do you go to a web site like www.heat.com? Also, check your connection setting and scan physical connetion status, there may be a problem somewhere, since you said you are thrown off just minutes after joining. As for the illegal operation, it is because, since USER.EXE runs in the backround, that the two programs have errors together. I think I got the same thing once, but later I ran the game again and it didn't show up. Try that.

For some reason I couldn't copy the URL for this page. This is from HP printer support site.

I hope this is what you're looking for.

I would re-install the printer drivers, from the installation disk that came with the printer first. That might work for you.

Let me know if this works!!
HP Color LaserJet and LaserJet Family Printers - Problems Printing from the Internet

ISSUE: Avoiding difficulties when printing directly from an Internet site to an HP LaserJet Family printer. Printing directly from Internet sites may result in difficulties printing to an HP LaserJet printer. Symptoms include:

The printer does not respond.
The printer ejects a blank page.
The printout does not match the screen.
The printing process is very slow.
Problems may occur when attempting to print either text or graphics.
General protection fault in hpbf3120.drv error received when printing using the PCL6 driver to print from the Internet. This typically occurs when printing from PostScript (R) applications.
SOLUTION: The following steps may resolve some issues when printing directly from the Internet.

Verify that the most current version of the Internet browser (for example, Netscape or MS Internet Explorer) is being used. Check the browser's homepage to download the most current version.
Download the file and save the information on the hard drive or on a diskette. Open and print the file from within a Windows application using the following instructions.
Try printing the document/page using the PostScript printer driver (particularly when printing from PostScript or Adobe (R) applications).
Install a universal Microsoft (R) printer driver that is compatible with the HP LaserJet printer and select the universal Microsoft driver to print with the Internet.
NOTE: If the product requires a host-based driver, you will be unable to print to the product using a universal driver.

Perform the following steps to download the file and save the information on the hard drive or diskette:
In the Internet browser program (for example, Netscape or MS Internet Explorer), select File and select Save As.
When prompted, enter the location where the file is to be saved.
Name the file and then select Save.
The file will be saved to the specified location.
Open the file and print from within a Windows application.
Use the following instructions to install a universal printer driver:
Windows 95/98
NOTE: The Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 98 diskettes or CD-ROM may be required to install a universal driver.

From the Windows Desktop, select Start, Settings, then Printers.
Double-click Add Printer.
Select Next, until the Manufacturer/Printer screen appears.
Under the Manufacturers list, select HP; under the Printers list, select the appropriate universal driver (see the following Note).
Select LPT1 and select Next.
Under the Printer Name box, select No so that the universal driver is not set as the default; then, select Next.
When asked to print a test page, select No and then select Finish.
NOTE: For early HP LaserJet printers, select the matching universal Microsoft driver. For HP LaserJet printers that are not listed, select an earlier version of the model. For example, for the HP LaserJet 5Si printer, select a 4Si universal driver.

Windows 3.1X
NOTE: The Windows 3.1x diskettes may be required to install a universal driver.

From Program Manager, select the Main program group, Control Panel, then Printers.
Select Add.
Under the list of printers, select the appropriate universal Microsoft Windows 3.1x driver and select Install. (See the note below for driver selection.)
NOTE: For early HP LaserJet printers, select the matching universal driver. For HP LaserJet printers that are not listed, select the most recent driver. This will be a HP LaserJet III printer in Windows 3.1 and a HP LaserJet 4 and 4M printers in Windows 3.11.

I am fixing one of my friend's laptop (basically reformatting and installing WinXP for him). The laptop had Windows Me on it. When I install start the PC and select the boot from CD option I get the below message.

I have an Windows 2000 disk that I bought a while ago and when I put that in, it goes into the setup, format procedure with no problems.

Could this be an issue with the computer being too old for Windows XP.

I forget the specs but I believe its a PIII 700MHz or 750MHz with 318MB CL2 SO-DIMM Ram.

Any ideas?

Is it ok that Im connected to the infected computer with a remote desktop program? Is there any risk of infection for my computer?===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Response Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take several days, up to more than a week, perhaps less, to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.Thank you for understanding.Elise - forum moderator

Hello:

I hope somebody could help.
I'm running Windows98 SE and Internet Explorer 6.
After Internet Explorer is running for 2 to 15 minutes, I receive the
next error message:

"Iexplore caused a general protection fault in module USER.EXE at
xxxxxxx.xxx.xx".

The numbers in "xxxx" somtimes changes.
It's an aletory problem but it doesn't allow me to work.

I tried to re-install Internet Explorer 6, but the problem doesnīt
dissapear.

Sometimes the same error message appears with other applications instead of IEXPLORE

I tried to find a solution in MS Knwledge Base but I didnīt find anything
that could help.

Please, if somebody can help me I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Hi,
I'm currently running Windows 98. After uploading a game demo, I was instructed that I'd also need to upload DirectX 7 in order to run the demo. I found the download at Microsoft. After installing DirectX, I keep receiving this message - "Program Name-
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." Under details it states "Program Name- caused a general protection fault in module DDRAW16.DLL at 0006:00001074" etc. etc. etc. I also ran a DirectX diagnostic tool and cannot access Direct Draw. The programs that are affected (Outlook Express, Caesar III, etc) worked fine before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Ok, should tell the whole story. I'm trying to play Splinter Cell Conviction on Windows xp sp2 32bit. Yesterday I got Runtime library error, floating point support not loaded, today I installed the game on a different partition and it gave a general protection fault error. Thing is, few days ago I tried 2 versions of windows 7, got same runtime error, so I got back to xp BUT this xp with the errors is different from the xp I used back when the game was working. Do you think it's the windows fault? Should I try a different xp, sp3, that people say it works? I scanned and cleaned my computer so it can't be virus problem. Shall I install a supposed to be better windows? Also kinda taking in consideration that in the past 5 days I've reinstalled my windows around 6 times (was trying to get windows 7 to work).

A:General protection fault error and floating point not supported. Need new win?

If all the errors are showing up when running the game on different versions of Windows, ya gotta look at the game. Don't mean to sound obvious, but can you get any support from the software maker?

A:K9 Web Protection Causing XP Pro SP3 Computers to Reboot?

I have used k9 in my home in the past on multiple computers and have never had those issues, though it is possible that it is conflicting with one of your drivers. another possibility is a virus has infected the system that could do it, but im not sure. If removing K9 solved the problem, then I would imagine that it is K9 conflicting with something on the computer. are all the computers the exact same, or different models/manufacturers?

Once or twice a day I get a half second of stutter where my video and audio will stutter for half a second. The only thing I've found in the Windows Logs seems to be the Software Protection Service starts when the stutter happens. Any ideas? I've done a full format with no luck, stuttering still occurs.

A:Software Protection Service causing stutter

Just an update on this, it seem with the PC in "High Performance" mode these stutters don't occur. My processor is overclocked, perhaps that has something to do with it. I know I never had any issues with the same setup on Windows 8.

Alright so today I renewed my Webroot Spysweeper, which during renewal gave me free anti-virus protection, not that I'm using it. Anyways I also bought a year subscription to AVG 8.0, now this means I received AVG full security including it's firewall. This is where the computer crashes. Not instantly, usually crashes whenever the firewall has to allow Webroot to access of things, mainly internet connected programs. So here are my questions.

1. Is there any way I can prevent this conflict besides disabling one of the protection programs or AVG firewall.

2. If the answer is to the firewall is no, then is Windows Firewall for Vista as good, better, or almost as good as the AVG firewall?

3. If the answer to the protection is no, then how, besides un-installation, can I get Webroot fully disabled from my computer, because when I ended the process, Webroot's shields are still active from testing around.

A:Solved: Protection feuding causing my computer to crash

Most people think the Vista firewall is pretty good. It has inbound and outbound protection but you must manually turn on the outbound protection. After turning on the outbound protection, you will find it difficult to find out which program is trying to connect out sometimes. So you'd have to make rules to allow Internet Explorer or Firefox to connect out, for example. So for example I still havent figured out which program handles adding more search providers in IE. So to add more search providers, I have to disable outbound protection and turn it back on afterwards. Other than that I am pretty happy with Vista's firewall and I still am using it.

I have an Acer Aspire WLMI laptop that a friend of mine gave to me the other day and I've decided to do a quot factory reset laptop Protection itself Fault" down "General shuts after quot on this particular laptop When I had performed attempted to do the quot factory reset quot about minutes towards the recovery process - the laptop shuts itself down without even knowing it I've restarted the laptop again and once past the BIOS sequence - I was then shown with a black screen with text saying that there was a quot General Protection Fault quot with a TRAP number of D I've posted a screenshot of that error for illustration At first I've made some diagnosis and found out that the CPU fan was blocked with dust in which I had blown out but the problem still persisted I've also changed the RAM as well along with removing the "General Protection Fault" after laptop shuts itself down laptop battery and plugging in only with the laptop power cord and even though I have attempted to do these the problem remains the same I'm hinting that a damaged motherboard on the laptop is most likely to blame and therefore I was considering replacing the motherboard The laptop is almost years old and based on your opinions - it is not somehow cost-effective to get a motherboard for this problematic laptop What are your suggestions for this situation -p s ICYMI I've provided an illustration of the General Protection Fault errors for you to interpret

How do I stop this?

It appears to be a control panel applet for Nvidia display adapter. If you have this video adapter in your system, look for an updated driver.

A:Help please. Screen fault on windows 7

ok im had a similar problem in vista, i fond i had the problem whilst connecting to a network and playing games/videos etc... Try updating your graphics drivers or reinstalling them if they are new, and as unrelated it may seem if you are using a wifi card try updating or reinstall its driver. This seemed to work for me in vista but after a month or so it would start doing it again. Strangely enough i have never had the problem in win7.

Sorry if this doesn't help its just a suggestion from my past experiences..

a few weeks ago my computer stopped being able to automatically connect to wireless networks of any kind.. now whenever i want to go online wirelessly i must go to network connections and select a network.. that isn't the problem though.. the problem is that it fails to connect EVERY TIME and i must go through the troubleshooter.. which then tells me that the access point is bad (which is every access point on the planet) and still does not connect.. but, after going through this process a 2nd time it will connect. it has me confused. I know the first thing said is the driver is out of date, but since toshiba refuses to bring out a new one for this laptop and they have their own drivers for everything on this thing, there isn't much in that route i can do.

Hi,

I am using the SDLC Threat Modelling tool 2016 by Microsoft on a Windows 10 virtual Box 32-bit.

When I am trying to generate a final report, it discards all the different risk ratings for each threat, and instead of having the respective high, medium, low levels next to each threat, it produces a html report putting only high next to each
one of them.

Any help?

A:Windows Fault no icons or taskbar

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.alternate download linkNote: The file will be randomly named (i.e. 5mkuvc4z.exe).Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on the randomly named file to open the program and click Start. (There is no need to update if you just downloaded the most current versionRead the Virus check by DrWeb scanner prompt and click Ok where asked to Start scan now? Allow the setup.exe to load if asked by any of your security programs. The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders). If prompted to dowload the Full version Free Trial, ignore and click the X to close the window. If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All. (This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)After the Express Scan is finished, put a check next to Complete scan to scan all local disks and removable media. In the top menu, click Settings > Change settings, and uncheck "Heuristic analysis" under the "Scanning" tab, then click Apply, Ok.Back at the main window, click the green arrow "Start Scanning" button on the right under the Dr.Web logo. Please be patient as this scan could take a long time to complete. When the scan has finished, a message will be displayed at the bottom indicating if any viruses were found.Click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable. In the top menu, click file and choose save report list.Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot. After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

Dear Bleepers Please help For the past week I have been getting BSOD Paged Fault in Non-Paged Area CLASSPNP SYS It has happened times now The first time was when I Paged BSOD, 8.1, Fault, Windows Help!!!! inserted a flash drive as was the second and the third Either the second or third was actually my USB mouse but I cannot remember which time it was BSOD, Paged Fault, Windows 8.1, Help!!!! The th and th also had BSOD, Paged Fault, Windows 8.1, Help!!!! a USB mouse attached to the computer but the error did not happen when I initially plugged the USB device in as it did most of the other times I have read that this problem can be caused by faulty hardware faulty drivers and RAM going bad I am usually patient enough to read and find the problems and solutions myself but this is over my head Please help Some information about my computer to begin with Toshiba Satelite L -B Running Windows Ran whocrashed and all dumps are virtually identical BCC x description SCSI Class System Dll Bug check description This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module Your system configuration may be incorrect Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time I am also running both Mcafee and malwarebytes have had some recent attacks - malware said it successfully blocked outgoing and incoming - I also read antivirus can cause this problem I don't know if this is even the proper way to ask for help but someone please take pity on me I am extremely distraught Thank you

A:windows\system32\bridge.dll fault (HELP)

Hi bert4444
You will need to uninstall New,Net.Do this via Add/Remove

When done..
Make sure you have already run Adaware, Spybot S & D(check for updates) as these will do a preliminary clean first. Some files below may not be present after running the above programs.

Then....
Turn off your System Restore. SEE HERE Reinstate it when your log is cleaned.Close your browser window and run hjt in safe mode... HOW TO RUN SAFE MODE and have "Hijack This" fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting "fix checked".
Folders that have been highlighted in RED will need to be uninstalled.Check first as some folders maybe uninstalled via the Add/Remove program. Files highlighted in BLACK will need to be removed from your hard drive. Make sure to have your system set to show hidden files and folders.. HOW TO SHOW FILES ..Please get the latest HJT v1.98.2 and then post a new log when finished...

A:Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA / Registry Fault

the error means that your PC asked for a page of memory , and the page was not available. when the operation could not continue, it BSOD'd and shut down. Its usually happens as a result of a hardware that is misfiring or failing. The 'Page_Fault_in_Nonpaged_Area' and "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" BSOD's often show up consecutively and alternately. Things to try to correct or identify the problem are to restore your machine to the last know working configuration. if the problem keeps appearing run disk check for errors on your HDD. if that shows nothing, the next most likely suspect is a problem with the Ram. You can download any number of programs that will test your ram for errors. Win 7 has a built in memory test (not sure about the RC though) and you do not have to burn a disc to run it. Hope that helps some.

A:Windows XP Page Fault In Non Paged Area

Im having the same problem, I've changed HD, RAM, Graphics card, Mobo, updated drivers and BIOS, checked for malware, ran a CPU checker, memtest - the whole lot and it still crashes.

From day one I've been convinced its the processor (AMD Athlon 3000+) but Im yet to change this, spent enough already - might as well as just bought a new PC

Also Windows Explorer / Internet Explorer crashes alot too - dont know if this is the same with you or its a related problem?

AMD PHENOM II X4 965 125W AM3 BLACK EDITION RETAIL BOXED
Gigabyte ATi Radeon 4850 with Zalman cooler
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO, AMD 785G Chipset, DDR3, AM3, ATX
OCZ 4GB PC3-10666 DDR3 Platinum Low Voltage (2x2GB)

Have updated all drivers and run all windows updates however I still randomly receive the Page Fault in Non paged area error 0x50

I will attach the recent memory dumps

I have tried running chkdsk /f /r and memtest numerous times, so that rules out those issues perhaps

Only had the components for around 2 -3 weeks

I've also cleared the page file and started a new one and the system doesn't overheat

I have a 120mm fan on the rear a 250mm on the side and a high speed 120mm on the front

Hi,since uprading to windows 10 whenever I use a program called utorrent windows crashes with a blue screen and restarts saying Page Fault in Non Paged Area.
I checked my hd for errors and it found nothing.
I then tried turning off page settings, restarting then changing it to system managed but it still crashes as soon as I turn on utorrent.
I'm pretty sure it is not a hardware issue but I have no clue as to how to solve this.
Any help appreciated?

I must have opened something online or downloaded something I shouldn't have because these two issues are brand new and they're pissing me off! I could use some help. About to go to bed because I've spent too much time tonight trying to figure it out and coming up with nothing.

Anyone have any idea about either of my fun new issues?

Hi I just uploaded Windows professional yesterday clean install using windows xp previously Everything went smoothly as far as I could tell and Windows is now running on my laptop However every minutes or so the screen freezes goes black for a second and than returns to normal 7 fault BSOD install, driver after Windows plus display and a message appears in the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying 'Display driver Intel graphics accelerator for windows vista R has stopped responding and successfully recovered' One time after this happened I got the a blue screen with a warning message it was too fast to copy anything down and than my laptop restarted itself I have added a zip file to this message taken from windows minidump as I saw someone suggested to do this BSOD after Windows 7 install, plus display driver fault on another thread I hope it helps with the diagnosis I'm not sure if the BSOD came as a result of the display driver fault as mentioned above I'm not very savvy when it comes to computers One more piece of info - after installing windows I installed all the recommended and critical updates for windows but none of the optional ones I can provide a screen dump of these if needed Hope I've given enough information and would really appreciate any help Thanks

You need to update your Intel Driver:

Code:
Driver: igdkmd32.sys
Refers to: Intel Graphics driver
Dated: Wed May 06 19:13:40 2009
Use the Intel? Driver Update Utility and check for a Win 7 32-bit version:

Aim to update your drivers as many are dated 2009.

Once updated reboot the system and see if your issue remains?

Cheers

Hi,I'm trying to boot and install windows 7 on my lenovo touchpad running windows 8 at the moment. I'm booting from an external dvd drive because the thinkpad doesn't have an internal drive. It will start the boot process and load the windows files, then throw an "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and thne you can restart (0% complete) PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA (WimFsf.sys)" error.I've tried booting from a USB drive as well and get the same results. I need to load windows 7 on 5 machines and only one has worked fine. I'm assuming it's a memory issue, but I haven't seen this error before when booting. Any tips?message edited by robkule422

A:PAGE FAULT when booting windows 7 (Lenovo laptop)

If you're getting that above error message, that's a blue screen error, which means you're booting to Windows and not to the DVD drive. What do you have selected as the boot order?

I just reinstalled Windows 7 Pro (x64) and installed over 200 Windows Updates.

I installed the Windows Updates by category, when possible, (SP1 Update 1st, Security Updates 2nd, Windows 7 Updates 3rd, etc.), maybe 20 at a time. I wanted to install them by Release Date order, but I had trouble figuring that out since there were so many of them.

When the updates were finished, I just happened to look at the Windows Error Reports (WER) in msinfo32 > Software Environment and noticed that there were 32 Fault Buckets: 11 related to PnP device(s), 6 CbsPackageService failures, 6 Windows Update failures, and 7 miscellaneous.

Is it normal to have 32 Fault Buckets during the initial round of Windows updates? That seems like a lot to me.

Are Windows Updates listed in any particular order when they appear in the updates window?

Just curious. Thanks.

A:Are Fault Buckets normal during Windows Updates installation?

Fault Buckets can relate to many things - often they are due to faulty drivers, which are one of the things that Updates attempts to deal with.
Windows updates generally appear in the listing with the latest at the top - but it doesn't matter too much in which order they are installed, since the detection automatically eliminates superceeded updates, and the system can cope with out-of-order updating to a large extent.

The important question is whether all updates got installed in the end - not their order.

I am unable to edit the previous post.

I also tried running MemTest86 while one memory stick was inserted on a slot and there were no errors reported for the first 15 minutes or so. I recall, once I had a defective module on an older system and MemTest threw the errors pretty quickly so I am assuming 15 minutes is safe for quickly diagnosing if the sticks are faulty? Someone correct me if I am wrong!

Please help. My laptop is crashing on a frequent basis, with the appearance of the BSOD and the error message PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA. I've spent a lot of time googling ways to solve this issue, but nothing has worked. Also, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to the crashes (e.g. the use of certain programs/software etc.) so I can't isolate it to one particular thing.

I have used Driver Booster to update all my drivers, so as far as I know everything is up to date.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Windows Explorer constantly crashing (with OggSplitter.ax at fault?)

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

I am a bit unsure of difference between malware protection and anti-virus protection. I have Norton nis which is great for stopping Trojans. I have a company that works on my computer if I have a problem. They wanted me to put in a anti malware program. I have been having problems with computer lately, so I let them do this, could this cause a problem, because I know that you are not supposed to run 2 anti-virus programs?
          Anyone?

A:Difference between malware protection and virus protection

Anti-virus and anti-malware programs each perform different tasks as it relates to computer security and threat detection. Essentially, they look for and remove different types of malicious threats. In simplistic terms, an anti-virus program will focus on viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkis and bots while anti-malware programs generally tend to focus more on spyware, adware and PUPS (potentially unwanted programs)?. However, there can be some overlap in functionality and detection features depending on the program's scanning engine, how the vendor defines a specific threat and what Naming Standards are used. Some vendors also add a modifier or additional information after the name that further describes what type of malware it is.The Difference Between Antivirus and Anti-MalwareAntivirus and Antispyware Software: What's The Difference? What Is the Difference Between Antivirus & Antispyware?Use Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware SoftwareTo fully understand the difference between Anti-virus and Anti-spyware (anti-malware) programs, you need to understand the difference between the various types of malware. Hello - I been having BSODs quite a few times in the last few days. It all started after I installed Office 2013 32-bit (I also had office 2010 installed at the same time). I also had installed Norton 360 and updated audible manager. Since this happened, I removed all three programs but the BSODs continued.

I ran chkdsk, it said I had a few errors and I needed to restart to get these errors fixed. I ran it again and it said I had no errors but the BSODs continued.

I had windows 7 and updated to windows 8 when it came out.

I am attaching the .zip below.

Thank you in advance for helping me with this issue.

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

I'm particularly concerned with the hard drive, so do those tests first.

Your BIOS dates from 2009. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :
