Dell Inspiron 6000 Screen Goes Black

Q: Dell Inspiron 6000 Screen Goes Black

I have read all the posts and ordered a new inverter. It was actually very easy to change the inverter, but alas. After changing the inverter the screen still goes 'black' after a few minutes. It actually goes very very dim. I can barely see the outline of things on the screen. So, if the inverter was not the problem, what is the next thing I can try?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried running an external monitor? Is it normal or does it go dim too?

I m not sure if I m posting in the right forum but I almost sure it is not hardware screen Dell Inspiron black 6000 blank related Dell Inspiron laptop Pentium M Ghz g HDD MB DDr SDRAM Dell Inspiron 6000 blank black screen ATI Mobility Radeon x I can boot into SET-UP and all works fine Booting up in normal mode it makes it past POST and the XP Splash screen then just goes black I can move the curser around and that is it Same thing is Safe Mode but I can see the quot Safe Mode quot borders in the corners and up top I hooked an external monitor to it and get the same results on it I went into boot menu and chose diagnostics and all passed even the inverter Was able to see all colors during the diag and as well on the Dell Drivers and Diagnostics CD I m running right now I found some similar problems by Googling but most said they didn t even make it to the splash screen or it works in safe mode but not normal mode so nothing that has a clear resolve of what I have here Thanks Terry

Update...
While running the Dell Drivers and Diagnostic Cd, during the the seek test on the hard drive, as it was almost done, I got a "Exception occurred in MODULE DISK.MDM! Warning: Error reading File! Press any key to abort" So I pressed a key and it rebooted, but now says the computer is missing the HDD. I went in Setup and Device Info/Primary Hard Drive, it says {none}, where as before it showed the 60G HDD.

I would not have thought a hard drive would have caused the first problem, or else it wouldn't have booted from the get go. Right?

Any ideas out there? Are the two issues one and the same? I would like to find out before I replace the HDD just to find out it still won't boot properly.

Thanks again for any help!

My Dell inspiron 6000 laptop stopped working. It shut off while I was online and when I try to restart it, it goes to the start up screen (black, says dell in blue letters) then the whole screen goes black and stays that way. I left for an hour and came back and the screen was still black. I have held the power button down until it restarts and that didn't work, I have pressed ctrl+alt+del and that didn't do anything either. I have also run a diagnostics test and everything passed. I have run out of things to try. Can anyone help me?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP Pro. This morning I received an error code M1004 (something about overheating) and the computer was frozen at that point. I cleaned out dust from the heat deck, as it was completely blocked with dust. I also did a hard shut-down then restarted, and all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I can only use F2 or F12. I've tried running diagnostics with no help. I upgraded my BIOS with no luck. I also tried to run chkdsk from the XP repair module, and I'm getting a message saying that one or more volumes have unrecoverable errors. I also get a directory enumeration error when I try to use the dir command on the C drive. I'm trying to figure out what to do now, as I unfortunately didn't back up about 1 GB of pictures that I need to get off this hard drive. Please help. Thank you!

A:Black screen with blinking cursor & M1004 error code: Dell Inspiron 6000 with XP Pro

You can pull that drive out of the computer and put it on another computer as a Slave drive or buy yourself a USB enclosure and put the drive in there and you will be able to copy your pictures and any other valuable data. Then either buy a new drive (as this one may be bad) or put it back in and Boot off of the XP CD, Format and reinstall.

Do you have another windows xp cd you can get your hands on? I recommend performing a checkdisk repair on your computer and see if that helps.

I m trying to fix a friend s computer It s a Dell Inspiron laptop I can t give more detailed specs because it s not in front of me The problem is that after about seconds after powering on the screen goes dark It happens no matter what - either a normal boot or after 30 seconds screen blank laptop 6000 goes Dell Inspiron a boot straight into BIOS The screen goes completely dark but the power LED stays lit Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop screen goes blank after 30 seconds Obviously the problem isn t with the LCD backlight because the BIOS screen appears fine although it doesn t stay on I don t think the problem is with power either because we were running it off AC and the indicator light on the power supply stayed on Plus the power LED stays lit and according to the BIOS the battery is at It happens to consistently to be a loose wire or bad connection I have been checking out the different BIOS options although it is hard when the screen keeps failing I don t see anything that could cause this My theories not that I am an expert at all is it could be some kind of a screen saver or power management feature that keeps shutting down the monitor to save the screen or power Or a temperature issue By the way are screen savers even necessary on a laptop Or perhaps the problem is with the monitor switching feature - we re going to try hooking it up to an external monitor to see what happens So what s going on and how do I fix it nbsp

HELP anyone..

I've been reading and reading every post I could find...and none say what to do when you can't get out of the error blue screen.

Here is my problem, I cannot get out of the blue screen (error screen) no matter what. I've tried F2,F8,F12 and everything. I can't even get it to start up in any of the safe modes?

Here is Error code:

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

** Ntfs.sys -adress F8202a23 base at f81f2000, dateStamp 45cc56a7

Like I said I can't get into the Laptop even in safe mode to try to disable anything at all and try to trouble shoot it.

Hope someone can help..
thanks

Hi, I'm a new member. My Dell is 7 years old. When I turn it on it starts booting. There's a pinkish tint on the screen with the wihdows logo. It starts to boot and you can see the shadow of the system appearing in thebackground but then goes completely black, Has someone resolved this problem? Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks

A:Dell Insprion 6000 black screen

With it booted up (even though you can't see it), if you shine a flashlight sideways onto the screen, can you see that the desktop is there but very dark?
If so, there are two possible problems; the inverter has gone bad or the ccfl bulb in the display. LCD's have a flourescent lightbulb which looks like a piece of spaghetti inside the LCD. The inverter is what powers it ($5). The LCD is more.

Best first step would be to beg or borrow a monitor and plug it in as an external. That would tell you if you have a monitor fault or not.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hello,

I have a problem with my new laptop and it happens only sometimes. It is around 1 month old and it had this problem from the beginning . The laptop is a DELL INSPIRON 3552
1. DELL LOGO appears
2. Screen backlight is ok
3. Windows won't start ( window's logo doesn't appear ) and if i plug an external mouse the cursor is on the black screen.
If I shut down the laptop from the power button and the start it again it works. It's very random. Once I had to restart the laptop for 3 times before the windows started.
Any ideas ?

A:DELL Inspiron Windows screen black after DELL logo

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
As we understand that the system doesnt not boot and just goes up to the Dell logo and after multiple restarts the system works fine.
In that case ,Can you boot the system into " Safe mode " and check if the same happens..You can also perform a system restore and also check for updates pending .
Thanks
Robin

Hi....this is my first post on here so please be gentle........

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m which I have been using for just over 2 years with virtually no problems....but about a week ago I was on a plane playing solitaire and my screen showed a few green, blue, and red squares and then went black. It sounded like it was still running, though. I turned it off and tried again a few minutes later, and it was still black but sometimes if I moved the screen back and forth I would get a brief view of my desktop. I hooked it up to an external monitor, and everything is working fine. I have spoken with several places, and I get different answers every time so I was hoping to gain some insight via this forum. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated, thanks so much for your time!!

-Kristen!

Hi,

I don`t know what answers you have received so far,

but here is mine ;

- the standby switch near the hinges is stuck/dirty or a cable connection is not making..

Or

- the power inverter (suppliies the backlight) is dying.

Both are user fixable tasks, but you may want to have someone look at it.

See HERE and HERE There are other guides,if those don`t suffice

Hi, I have a dell Inspiron. Recently, when I turned it on the screen was completely black. Also, the fan isn't running. Am I able to fix it myself? How much would it cost to get someone to fix it?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 black screen

Hi AND EH,
What is the exact system model? Does the system power on and stay on or does it go off automatically? Do you see any leds come on and stay on when you press the power button?
Try using a flash light and check if any dim display in visible.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
While running the lcd test and the diags - swivel the lcd back and forth and see if the display comes on.
Also, try the onboard diags - press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check if any beeps are heard. This will help isolate the source of the issue.
Connect an external monitor and check if the display is seen.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Let us know if you have any other queries.

A:Dell Inspiron 6000 Need Help Bad!!

Since it works in safe mode, let's do a clean boot and see what happens.

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.
After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

The laptop boots, displays the post screen, and then the screen goes black.
You can boot into BIOS,
You can boot into the Boot menu.

You cannot boot into safe mode, the f8 key does nothing,
when using the boot menu, u can't boot into a windows disc to reload the operating system, it just goes black.
I did however manage to boot into a linux cd i have and run a HDD test (what passed) and a memory test (what also passed).

It does exactly the same on an external monitor aswell so I am lost with this one.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Hey!

My Dell Inspiron 1100 is over 6 years old at this point, quite the dinosaur. However, I still have a bit of old data I would love to remove before it really bites the dust.

When I boot up the machine, usually the display is clear and bright. However, after no more than a minute the screen goes black and only a faint outline of the desktop remains. What is the problem and what do I need to do to solve it?

Thanks!

A:Dell Inspiron 1100 screen goes black 30 secs after booting up, faint screen outline

Hi

backlights or invertor board is failing (failed).

If there is an external monitor socket on it use a monitor to see the screen and then you can backup your data.

Hi and welcome

You need to boot into safe mode (F8) once there adjust your monitot to a lower resolution and refresh rate

Welcome! On my inspiron 1521, when the power is on only a black screen (do not even get to the BIOS), the fan is operating but none of the signaling LED lamps do not light up. I've tried removing the WLAN Card, CMOS battery, RAM. Unless you remove both RAM, flash me right and medium-sized LED flashlight, while left off. Please advise what could be wrong?P.S. This occurred after I did pasword recovery in the User Account, then I could do some work with the admin account, and since then it happens.

Hey i got a problem, my roomates Dell Inspiron 600m got all screwy. I don't know why, but the screen wont turn on, the computer loads up, and you can hear it, but you see nothing. Anyone have any advice?

A:Dell Inspiron 600m black screen?

Is the screen's power light coming on to show that power is available? If not then either there is no power getting to the screen, or the screen is dead (as in failed in the circuitry)

If power is getting to it, then there is the possibility that the video card in the PC has failed.

Most likely is that there is a cable unplugged or poorly plugged.

just a few hours ago, a small pot of water spilled directly to my old-ish laptop, and it shut down instantly. I unscrewed the bottom and propped up a fan next to the exposed inside, and now the computer turns on again!
However, the screen does not. Whenever I turn it back off, it does so instantly. The same exactly thing happened to this poor laptop 3 years ago, when a quarter-cup of soda entered through the keyboard. Last summer, it worked again!
But, not as much liquid entered the laptop, so I`m sure the damage isn`t as severe. Plus, the computer still turns on, so I`m not completely hopeless.

I don`t want to spend a bunch of money sending it to GeekSquad or Dell, or wait a long time so it can dry off or whatever. Can anybody tell me what to do to get the monitor working again?

My Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook computer is underclocking itself. It is a Pentium M that is listed at 1.5GHz, but is actually running at between 1 and 1.1 GHz. I always have the computer plugged in, so power consumption is not an issue. Also, the backlight is broken, so I use a side monitor as the display instead, reducing the heat generated in the computer.

Unfortunately, heat seems to be a problem, with software telling me that the computer is already running at around 60C.

Is there any way for me to disable the underclocking, and would it be dangerous because of the heat generated? Since it is a Dell, I believe the clock speeds are blocked in the BIOS.

I ran a diagnostics and it fails at the DST short test -

I cannot reformat it as it will not boot up to the CD no matter what I do.

Harddrive failure? It is 4 years old. It is used as a 3rd computer to check email, surf web, etc. etc. and I would like to get it fixed. Besides this problem I've had no problems with it whatsoever and it's been a pretty good little laptop.

A:Win 7 on Dell Inspiron 6000 problems

When the Dell website says your model is not win7 compatible, it means Windows 7 won't run properly on it (which is true, as you've discovered) because Dell has not commissioned any Win7 drivers for it. Therefore, Dell's statement about it being incompatible is quite correct.

As for the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on Microsoft's website, you are supposed to run that before upgrading so that you can make an informed decision as to whether or not to upgrade the OS or buy a new PC with Win7 pre-installed instead.

The "Standard VGA Driver" is a 'real driver' that Windows uses when no other suitable third-party video driver is available, but it's only a generic driver with low resolution & low colour-depth, so quite unsuitable for games or apps requiring high resolutions.

The problem you have is that Dell hardware is custom-made so custom-made drivers are required. Only Dell has these custom-made drivers because they were specially written for that company. That's why you should have checked the driver situation on the Dell website before going ahead with the upgrade.

If the only problem you have is the lack of a proper video driver, you've been lucky.
You'll either have to live with that or re-install XP.

The Dell Inspiron 6000 is a low-end laptop that's several years old and worth less than $100.00.

It's NOT a gaming laptop and can't be upgraded to work as one.

If you want a gaming computer, you need to buy or build one that has the hardware to support the demands of gaming.

A:dell inspiron 6000 problem

You need to take the laptop to someone who's familiar with clearing the CMOS memory on a laptop. Another option is to find someone that can wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall an operating system.

you need to go onto the dell website and download all the drivers for the laptop

on the laptop will be a tag number
use this in the dell website and it will take you to all the drivers for that machine

in device manager I suspect you have a lot of yellow ? - these are the items with missing drivers

Hello,
I am having issues with my Dell 5547 laptop. There is a roughly 1cm border all around the screen which wasn't there before and I noticed it now as my taskbar is adjusted 1cm up but when I put google chrome in full screen it sort of chops the top bar down a bit.
I noticed through google searches other people have had similar issues with Dell laptops however I can't seem to find a solution because every time I try to turn off the "maintain display scaling" it won't let me turn it off.

A:Dell Inspiron 5547 Black Border around screen

The product in the product video has the same black border. It can not be "'fixed''Some of the photos do not seem to have this which is pretty poor form, but the screen size and resolution are as promised.Personally, I would've liked a smaller laptop overall, but if it had to be this size, then I would rather small bezels and a black border, than big slabs of plastic on all sides. It makes it look better when its off and I don't notice it that much.I've also heard people say that this is to do with the touch functionality?? Maybe it gives you a better ability to swipe in from the sides... I don't know.Still, there is nothing wrong with your laptop. If this is a deal breaker for you, you might have a decent argument under consumer laws to get a refund. They really can't show pictures that cover this up and make the screen seem bigger than it is. But the video was there, and the specs are all honest.

Hi, I have had my Dell for just under three years and never had a problem. I upgraded to Windows 10 last night and it worked fine the following morning but then unexpectedly the laptop had turned itself off. Now, if I press the power button, the screen does not do anything and after about five seconds there are three beeps, which then reoccur.I have investigated and found that this model has not been tested, however Microsoft failed to mention that when telling me my specifications were fine for an upgrade.I am wondering whether I can do anything cheap which will both save my laptop and all my work :(. I have already tried physically checking my RAM and reinstalling windows 8 to no avail.
Any help is much appreciated.

Hi! I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with vista preinstalled. I went to power it up today, only to find it has a completely black screen. *No cursor. I have searched forum after forum with similiar issues, but none the same, and i have tried the quick fixes people have recommended to no avail. I power it up, Everything works power light on, i can hear the hd, but screen is completely black. I plugged it into an external monitor, and that is blank as well... Is this a backlight issue? Its not dim, it is black. nothing at all. I tried removing the battery, holding power, and putting it back in, nothing. I inserted vista repair disc... black screen. Regardless of if i am able to fix this issue, i absolutely need the files i have on this laptop.

u can try connecting an external monitor from a desktop if u have one or borrow one and see if that monitor shows anything without problems.it sounds to me that your monitor on the laptop has gone bad.. the led modules that light it up have gone bad or your video card might be bad.it could also be that the motherboard or hard drive is failing.usually if just the monitor is bad it should load up with no problems.hope this helps u.

Hi,

I lost my tool bar's off Internet explorer to to rectify this I thought I should do a restore to about a month and a half ago when the laptop was running fine. Now when I turn it on I'm getting a black screen with curser but no way of logging in etc. The cd rom is working so I popped the windows vista reinstallation disc in but have no way of making it run. No keys seam to be working apart from the on/off. Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Black screen dell inspiron 1525 after restore

There could be many reasons for your issue, but maybe the system restore didn't complete successfully...
1.) Did you turn off your antivirus software prior to starting the restore?)

2.) Did you actually need to do a system restore to get the toolbar back on Internet Explorer?

3.) Have you tried using Startup Repair? (link below)

Hi Any ideas on this issue would be really appreciated as i have no idea where to start Since a 510m Dell screen to black boots Inspiron few days ago every time I power on my laptop it displays the initial dell screen a loading bar fills up and then Dell Inspiron 510m boots to black screen the Dell Inspiron 510m boots to black screen screen goes black At this point the Windows XP SP loading screen would normally appear but the screen stays black indefinitely Note that it looks black in the way that screens look black when they are on but not displaying anything and not like when it is powered down I had a lot of hard drive failures earlier this year so replaced the drive in May for a new Toshiba one but has been running really well since then In my experience hard drive failures give me an error screen and not the nothingness I am currently experiencing If it points to anything the battery warning light has recently started flashing but the laptop is currently plugged in I have an auxiliary battery in the optical drive bay and the main worn out battery was lasting for about mins the day prior to this failure Again any thoughts would be much appreciated as I can normally get thing sorted once they have been diagnosed Many thanks in advance for your help Lewis Moore nbsp

Update:
I loaded the boot menu and tried to boot from a windows CD to run diagnostics/repair but the boot failed in a similar fashion to that described above.

I ran pre-boot diagnostics from the boot menu and they all came back fine, it suggested running an extended diagnostics by booting from a dell drivers and utilities CD. Boot failed again.

I tried, however to boot to a linux live CD (Kubuntu 6.0), and the laptop happily booted to the live CD.

My Dell 1720 Laptop (Vista) had the following error:

Tried to restore from Dells disk but the computer wouldn't load the restore disk.

Any ideas?

after that they couldnt get it to turn on, the laptop itself would turn BUT the screen wouldnt.

after a couple hours they managed to turn it on, but it froze again

also the laptop has had issues with the battery/charger

it wont function unless the charger adapter it plugged into an outlet.

if not the screen will go into a dark haze then it would shut off.

maybe this has to deal with it or not, im not sure...

so i tried to put in my windows operating cd, to repair it, but the screen is still black when i insert it. i can here it loaded but i see nothing...

I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop. Its a few years old. Recently the screen has started fading to black after a few minutes of use. I can hook up an external monitor and it works fine. In fact when I plugged in the video cable from the external monitor (even though the external monitor had no power cord and wasn't turned on) the laptop screen popped back up for a couple of minutes and then went black again. There is still a very faint image on the screen but you can only see it if you shine a light directly on it.

I've read that this could be a problem with the invertor or the backlight. I guess the inverter is cheap and relatively easy to replace but the backlight is neither of those.

Would anyone know by these symptoms what the issue is?

Thanks for your hellp,

Matt

I tried removing the battery and pressing the power button for 40 seconds, no luck. Starting in Safe Mode is not possible either.

I got some CD's from Dell. One is for the Dell OS, and the other is for Drivers and Utilities.

My main concern is saving whatever files, documents and photos I can. Any idead if that's possible?

I want to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 6000 OS from XP Pro To Win 7 home Premium. I heard you can do it but there's drivers issues. Dell says the 6000 is not able to run Win 7. Well I've already bought the Win 7 OS. Can 7 be installed on the inspiron 6000 and run well?
I've already upgrade the ram to 2 gigs but the drivers problem has me worried.

If dell does not have drivers, then I would strongly urge you not to try to upgrade. You will have problems.

check the following tests.

Try Windows Update?

Also maybe these vista drivers will do the trick?
Download the Sigmatel STAC 9200 series audio driver 6.1 for Windows Vista

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that is just over 2 years old. Just a few weeks ago the l and ; keys became super sensitive so that now if i even graze them this happens: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll or ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;. And it's only those two keys that do that. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks!

A:Dell Inspiron 6000 keyboard problems

You may have something underneath them. With the laptop off, turn it upside down and use a new soft paintbrush carefully between the keys to shift anything that might be there.
Golden rule - no food or drink near keyboards!

A:Why can't I open the Dell inspiron 6000 in safemode

"I got a prompt stating that I was missing a utility partition and that I could not restore"It appears the partition has been deleted. If that's the case, you will have to reinstall Windows using the Restore CDs which I'm sure you created a long time ago when the computer was new, right? STOP 24 error...could be bad NTFS file system, bad hard drive, or bad ntfs.sys file.Preliminary step, I would try to run chkdsk /r on the partition (from the XP Recovery Console).http://support.dell.com/support/topics/glo...&doclang=enLouis

I have a cousin that fixes electonics. From what I heard, he had a friend that had a dell inspiron 6000 that just stopped working. Well He gave it to my cousin. He couldn't fix it so he gave it to me. I went out and bought an extra mother board and fixed it. It runs perfectly! Well then I have this extra mother board laying around. So, I got another Dell inspiron 6000 without a motherboard. Basicly, I want to fix the other on now. But When ever I power it on it lights up for 5 seconds and shuts off. I do not have a hard drive in it, but when I did it didn't spin. If you put your ear up to it, you can hear a humming noise on every part of the board. Any suggestions as to what to Do? I don't want to go Searching for another costly Board.

A:Dell Inspiron 6000 won't stay on more than 5 seconds

type fast.

:haha:
five seconds: type fast.
listen to very short songs.
play video games you know you will lose really quickly.

--but seriously: the mb sounds like toast. that may be why no one is posting any notes.

i cannot remember having te 5-second problem before. it could mean that some spot on the mb got broken or shorted out - not enuff to kill everything, but to keep it from decently being able to get BIOS rolling. Or, the BIOS is messed up.

I wouldn't even spend money replacing the bios. I would find another mb used or cheap somewher if you really wanted to take advantage of the remaining computer, supposing that everyting else is ok.

My Dell Inspiron is only about months old and there is a problem with the AC Jack in the back where the AC Adapter will not charge it anymore It helped to hold it at an angle or jiggle it to get a charge but Dell Inspiron Problems AC 6000 Jack now it does not respond to anything and is completely dead I ve been told the solder joints need to be resoddered which they will probably just break again or to replace my motherboard I heard about the class action lawsuit regarding other Dells having the same problem but apparentely doesnt include model Dell said they would fix the joints if possible but most likely just replace the motherboard both at high cost of course I m afraid to get it resoddered cuz it will just break again im sure I m hoping this can be related to the lawsuit somehow as I hear it is a common problem with the models too Any suggestions anyone Thanks nbsp

A:Dell Inspiron 6000 AC Jack Problems

Well, if you don't get it fixed, it's likely to short and ruin the MB, so I suggest you get it fixed.

FWIW, the reason this happens is people carry the laptops around with the power plug hanging out, or are careless and trip over the power cord and put a lateral load on the connector. Here's what happens if you keep wiggling the cord with power on and the jack loose.

So my laptop's low battery light keeps flashing orange even when I have plugged in. Is there something I can do to stop it from flashing? I've never had a problem with this before. If you can help...GREAT!!! THanks in advance.

A:Dell Inspiron 6000 low battery indicator

The battery is reached its expected life, you need to replace it.

If its under warranty call Dell and ask to have it replaced. You could remove it and use the wall power that way you wont see alight flashing....

I bought a new battery for my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. It is a 9 cell battery (supposedly) and it charges fine....shows 99% charged and 5 hours usage on power meter when fully charged. It works great for about 3 hours usage and then just shut down (no warnings shown). When I put onto mains power, it shows it is 28% charged and has around 1 and a half hours usage left but will not "use this last bit of power". It will not operate computer at this until i recharge it again and it seems fine again until the same thing happens. Any ideas on actions?

A:Dell inspiron 6000 Battery Problem

Even though the battery is new you might have a bad battery. not charging fully or at least showing there is charge left but in reality isnt might be a sign for you to go and get a replacement. also make sure you are using name brands and not a knock off ...ex. Dell needs an actual certified Dell battery ...not a dell compatible...although these compatibles are cheaper they cause the problems such as you are describing.
