I just recently purchased a 1gb stick of Kingston ddr400 Ram for my pc.
Currently i have 2 x 512mb sticks in my 1st and 3rd slot of my MB. I currently use the Asus A7N8X-D Board. 3 Memory slots total. What would you suggest me to do for the order of my memory or does it even matter ?
Slot 1 : 512mb
Slot 2 : Empty
Slot 3 : 512mb
Eventually going to be 3gb Memory but Im not the best in these types of configurations.
Thanks ahead of time guys.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
My PC came preloaded with DDR pc2100 memory that we all know operates at 266mhz. I'm not too particular about speed but I was wondering if I wanted to buy pc2700, pc3200 or even pc3500, would it still work to some degree in my pc (at the 266 or more). The reason why is because when I buy a new system that supports all the features of these high speed memory modules all I need to do is just simply switch. When I mean DDR I mean the 184-pin type. (what other is there?) NOT SDRAM or SODIMM.
Why does my computer take so long to perform simple functions such as opening a word document or launch a program? Can take anywhere from 30 second to 5 minutes, while in Task Manager the CPU Usage is 2%, and Commit Charge is 577/3939M. I mean I expect slowdown when I'm running the CPU up to like 60-70% (almost never happens) and doing a ton of things, but when I'm not running anything else I can't see what's slowing me down.
36 Background processes running, about 15 of them are SYSTEM, 2 are applications I have open, 7 or 8 soundcard-related, 3 for videocards and 3 for network controller. Of the remaining, nothing seems very suspicious.
I've obviously scanned for virus/spyware, all clear there.

its proberly because you have used almost 170GB what you can do is defrag the disk that should hopefully speed up processeshttp://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/general-question-about-memory-usage-148718.html
Can I add the following ram board to my existing [email protected] with CL2.5?
PC2700 @333mgz with CL3
I have checked with my computer manufacturer and they state that my system will accept 1GB.
If you're existing memory is clocked @ 266mhz than you may indeed be able to use the PC2700 333mhz memory but it will run at 266mhz. It really all depends on your motherboard.

My opinion ...
Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.
The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.
Does it matter in which order PCI cards are arranged on a motherboard?
I have a 4 PCI slots (1 being closest to the processor) and they are filled as follows:
Slot 1 - Video card
Slot 2 - empty
Slot 3 - Sound card
Slot 4 - modem
It is an Intel D845GLLY board, and according to mfg specs, the SMBus is routed to slot #2. Should I put the video card in this slot, or does it matter?
The rest of the specs of the machine are:
1.7Ghz P4 processor
1GB SDRAM 133
BFG Asylum GeForce 5200 OC 256MB graphics card
SoundBlaster LIVE! 5.1 sound card
I am trying to squeeze every last bit of juice out of this thing to get my newer games running better. Yes, all the drivers are up-to-date, BIOS is optimized, etc.
Thanks all, this is my first post here, and I'm looking forward to getting some good info, and sharing what little I have.
Cheers - Jones
Wow, with the quality of some of the posts I've read here, I am surprised nobody stepped up to the plate on this one...
I need to set up three user accounts on two computers the accounts on each computer is going to be monitored.
Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.
So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.
On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.
Any idea how i can acomplish this task?
I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.
Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.
Thank you in advance.
But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.
This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.
So I've had this problem for a few months with my Unknown memory Win7 usage? leak and General memory thinkpad x win home premium bit I used ccleaner run memtest multiple times chkdsk multiple times sfc scan multiple times none that helped Sfc always detects errors but always cannot fix some of them I have mse avast and malwarebytes and scanned them with absolutely no results I've run rootkit scanners with no results Basically after a few hours the memory use rises up to out of my gb with absolutely no intensive processes running I'll attach rammap and processexplorer screenshots I know this is not quot normal quot behavior because once my ram goes over the system slows down to where General Win7 memory leak and Unknown memory usage? Hi mesohamster welcome to SevenForums
First I recommend uninstalling Avast then we could go from there . Using Revo Uninstaller
Click on the app inside RevoUnistaller and choose uninstall
Click on Yes to agree you want to uninstall
If you get the builtin Uninstaller for the app use that and once you're done click Finish
Back inside RevoUninstaller click on Next
Let RevoUninstaller scan for left over registry keys . Click on Select All and choose Delete .
Once done click on Next.
Let the left over files and folders be locates then Click on Select All then click Delete then Next and you should be done .
yes or no ?? will this have a bad effect on the computer ?/ any info is appreciated

When inserting memory module on the memory slot it was not aligned properly. When i turn on the power i noticed smoke and i immediatly turned off the power. Removed memory module and half of it was burnt, now my question is the memory slot damaged? Because its slightly burned in the inside slot, could i install a new memory module in that particular slot? or do i have to change the memory slot thats on the mother board?
You are probably lucky if you didn't kill the whole board. The slot is most likely toast. If you were brave enough to try another stick in the same slot, it may not work, or it may burn-up something else. I don't think changing the slot is really an option. Motherboards are not exactly repairable items.

So recently my colleague tried to upgrade the RAM in his laptop, but he ended up messing up really bad he actually broke the only memory slot on the motherboard (yikes!). He asked me to take a look at it for him, and I was pretty surprised how badly he had messed it up (as in there's no way it could be fixed). I told him he might have to replace the entire motherboard, but he really can't afford that right now. I let him know that might be his only option, but I decided to ask here before giving up. The rest of the motherboard is fine; only the memory slot is broken. So is it possible to replace just the memory slot without replacing the entire motherboard? And if so, can anyone help me out with doing this? He does really need his laptop, so any help would be awesome.
How long can he go without a laptop?
That is a big project. You will need to be a master with a solder gun. Just getting the old part off without melting the motherboard will be an adventure. There are a LOT of pins.
First you will need to find the Brand and model # of the motherboard. You can use CPU-Z for that - it will list the info on the third tab.
Then, armed with that info you will search for the RAM SOCKET replacement. This is where it will get interesting, as the available sources will be in Asia. Shipping will kill you (for a $3 part). And you will probably need some translation skills too.
Your colleague really couldn't afford to mess his RAM Socket up. Now his best bet is to buy a new laptop.

I have an IBM T30 laptop which has 2 slots for memory. Which is the primary? I am adding a 512 mb memory module and I want to know which slot should contain the 512 and which
one the remaining 256. BTW, even though I have a 256 in each slot most of the time it only
recognizes a single 256 module. Thanks for your info.

Hi: If you look at the illustration in chapter 4, page 52 of the service manual, it appears that the memory slots are stacked on top of each other. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03762978http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/I-Can-t-Find-Other-Memory-Slot/td-p/5655384
This is a hardware question for anyone that can help me out. I have tried to upgrade the ram in a dell dimension 5150, after seating the additional ram one of the existing slots containing ram started smoking with an obvious plastic burning smell. I have removed all ram and the burning is still occurring when powering on accompanied by a loud beeping noise. It's clear that one of the slots is melting. Need to know what my options are now. New board, or can this be rectified. Obviously the slot is now damaged and can't be used but there are three remaining. Never experienced this and unsure what has caused it to happen ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please place your system specs, that way we could help you easier.:

The beeping noise, is it a one long beep? Or is it accompanied by another long or short beep?

actually, i was used to a pc with 160mb-ram - which is 32 + 128. now i own a faster one with one single 512mb-slot. but unfortunately, some problems occur: gta3 is collapsing all the time, i cannot copy a normal 1024x768 .tga-image to clipboard via corel (»low memory«) and after watching some freshly downloaded quake3-bots i got the message »low memory«, too. sometimes, even some multitasking surfing can bring me up to fully busy memory - is this a technical problem or am i asking for too much power!? i heard something like this memory-damage would lead to the problems i have.
speaking against it is a rather stable quake3 while in game and a fascinating stable 1nsane played also in 1280x1024 - without any stinky problem.
thanks and regards,
The memory module might be faulty or motherboard might not support 512M modules
it seems that the memory stick slot doesnt work anymore. in the device manager there is a yellow question mark and it says that it it not working. i would try installing the drivers but i kinda lost the recovery cd or what not. well before when i bought this, VAIO PCV-RX580, it was using Windows XP Home and now i use Professional. not sure if that makes a difference. im just wondering is there anyway i can get the memory stick slot to work again?
Try updating the drivers from here, search for your memory device.
Can anyone tell me where the RAM expansion slot is on a MITAC 7521 laptop, I can't find it. DOH!
look at the manual or call the manufacturer.
My motherboard just went out on my pc and I was wondering if there is something that I can hook up to my laptop that will let me read whats on my pc memory, kind of a external memory slot or something. I've been searching google for a few hours and I can't find anything and I know you guys always know what your talking about and answer very quickly. Any help would be appreciated.
Your actual data is not stored in the memory, its stored on the hard drive. And it's very easy to connect a hard drive to any other PC, there are many adapters for this.
Here's a version that simply connects a drive, either SATA or PATA(IDE) to a USB port without any enclosure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002
Here's a version that basically converts the drive into an external drive that you can safely use that way: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817388017
This one only supports SATA hard drive with a connector like this: http://www.google.ca/imgres?hl=en&s...dsp=35&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:28,i:160&tx=102&ty=76
More enclosures to choose from: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=92&name=External-Enclosures
I just purchased my computer yesterday. I removed my Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo from my digital camera and was going to download them to my computer. The slot came with a Dell piece. My memory stick is too small. It did not come with an adapter and I have no idea how to get it installed. Any ideas???
It is likely that the two aren't compatible.
What model Dell do you have? The type of adapter that you need depends on what slots your Dell has.
Also - most cameras come with a USB cable. Could you use that instead?
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and run Windows XP. my memory card slot recently stopped working. I used to be able to insert my memory card from my digital camera and download my pictures and now it no longer works. It doesn't even show up under My Computer under removable storage. Please help!
Put a card in it and:
Look in Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager
Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and see if a USB mass storage device is listed.
Also look to see no yellow ? or ! are shown, indicating missing drivers.
I have a dell dimension 9200 and the motherboard can handle a maximum of 4gb of ram, but is there a limit per slot?
In other words does it have to be 4 x 1gb sticks of ram or can I use 2 x 2gb sticks?
The reason I ask is that I've had lots of bsod and crashes recently and after performing lots of tests using memtest it seems that 2 of the ram slots on my motherboard are bad meaning I only have 2 good ones to use.

I was told by Lenovo that one slot will accomodate 1 gig of memory, instead of using 2 half gig sticks. I was also told about something called "memory boost" as an external memory source to increase memory. has anyone heard of this? I want to run PhotoshopCS and need 1 GIG of memory and don't want to get new motherboard(the machine is long out of warantee). can anyone help on this issue?
"readyboost" is a feature only available for Vista, where it can use a USB memory stick as an alternative to paging back to the hard drive, it's not really in place of RAM.
I have been building computers for years and never found a reason for the placement of the memory slots on a motherboard. If you look at a board that uses an Intel CPU, the slots used are1-3 and/or 2-4. If you look at a board that uses an AMD CPU however, the slots used are 1-2 and/or 3-4. Does anybody know why this is? No, I'm not trying to make a better motherboard, I'm just curious enough to finally ask.
Thanks for any info anyone can give.
'If you look at a board that uses an AMD CPU however, the slots used are 1-2 and/or 3-4.'
refer to the MSI K9N - which see;
Dual channel with slots 1/3 or 2/4.
Assuming that you installed 2 Gb in 4 modules of dual channel ram and it is used from byte 0 to 2047 linearly, then assuming that the average 2 Gb ram install running XP uses about 50% of the Ram running avg8 (as example), you would get heating in ram modules 1 and 3 and none to speak of in 2 and 4.
Thus, heat separated components and better cooling.

Thanks.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/How-do-I-use-the-memory-card-slot-on-my-laptop/td-p/49651
How can I upgrade my laptop memory? There isn't a memory slot at the bottom of the laptop.
Memory slots on this notebook model are placed under the bottom cover so when RAM modules must be exchanged or upgraded bottom cover must be removed.
Please note: on some notebook models RAM upgrade is supported by notebook owners and RAM upgrade steps are described in user?s manuals document.
I your case such upgrade is not supported and RAM upgrade should be done by authorized service provider.
Generally speaking bottom cover removal is not complicated but you should not do it alone. This will cancel valid warranty.
In my opinion, before you do anything contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country and ask for help. Simply pick up some info about price and compatible RAM modules.
I'm working on a windows vista computer that would restart randomly and get a window exception bsod. I took out a memory module and ran memtest86 with memory in slot 1. Failed. Swapped it out with another memory stick but on the SAME slot on the motherboard. Failed.
Took that stick, put it in another slot on mobo. Passed. Took the other stick put in in that next slot, got the restarts again. Could it be that the memory slot that went bad on the mobo also caused the memory stick to go down with it?
Yes, that could be possible.
1. Expansion SlotWhat is the expansion slot specification for this model as we would like to add a dedicated graphics card with DisplayPort ? 2. MemoryHow many memory slots does it have on the motherboard ?What type of memory is required ?What is the maximum memory supported on the motherboard ?
Go to Solution.
Ok, Sorry looking up the model at Kingston and a couple other sites didn't show your computer and seeing I hadn't seen any I was confused. Based on what I have found maybe a Model from other country. With that said it looks like it comes with 2gig DDR3L Ram and is Upgradable to 8Gig Also looks like yours comes With 1 PCI Express x16 Slot. I am not sure with the PSU and with that slot if you would be able to upgrade to a different Graphics Card. GPU and size of case would put a huge limit on what could be able to fit... Did you scroll down to the "DIMM Module Combination" and "MSI Reminds You..." and read what is posted there?
I am using a HP Z400 Workstation Xeon Quad-Core W3565 3.2GHz, 12GB (3x4GB), 1TB, DVDRW, Windows 7 Pro.This the the model with 6 memory slots, so there was a possiblity for 24GB of RAM. When I populate the remaining slots 4, 5 & 6 with 4GB DIMM, I get errors on boot up for the newly populated slots. I am unable to configure for 24GB.I did discovered that the DDR3's that I am using are non-ECC. The system has been running fine with the (3x4GB) setup. Is the non-ECC preventing the 24GB configuration from working? Thanks for any help you can offer.
Yes it is. It is not possible to install standard PC and server memory, I've never seen a system of any brand which supports such a configuration. Officially, the Z400 supports only ECC unbuffered memory modules. However, it will also run with standard DDR3 RAMs, unsupported only means that HP Customer Service won't help you. There are some reports that even 8 GB Modules work, but that's another story, 24 GB runs fine. Mixing different types of memory is generally a bad idea.Use either ECC unbuffered (which is recommended) or non-ECC, preferably six identical modules.DDR3 are relatively cheap, even those with error checking and correction. Good luckhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/z400-6-slot-memory-configut-ration/td-p/5571112
When I populate slot2 with 512mb noname ddr1 I cannot boot into windows, BIOS comes up ok and memory tests ok. This is intermittent but now almost 90% of the time it won't boot. slot1 contains a 1GB kingston pc3200.
With no ddr in slot2 it boots ok and with a 1GB stick (corsair) it boots ok. I guess it was the noname 512MB stick but seems strange it passed all the memory tests (from ubuntu grub loader)
MB is an Asus K8S-MX
hi what happens when you put the 512MB stick in slot 1 and the 1gb stick in slot 2? kinda surprised your running win7 64bit on just 1.5 gb of ram.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/361167-wont-boot-into-windows-2nd-memory-slot-filled.html
My printer's memory card slot isn't recognized by my computer. I am running Vista. Can anyone help with this. I contacted the printer's tech support and they tried but said it was a Microsoft problem.
Sounds like a tech support answer. What is the Brand and Model of the printer?
In Device Manager under your Printer is there a notification sign?
sorry i like to seek your adivce on the following matter
i am using asus P7H55-M motherboard..i was actually using kingston 2x 2GB 1333MHz ram..recently i added 1 nex kingston 1x4GB 1333MHz ram..it was working fine until today when the com could not boot up..when i check, i found burnt mark on the 4GB ram and the memory slot..
my question are:
1) could i replace my motherboard if it is still under warrenty
2) could the burnt mark cause by the mismatching of the ram..
1) could i replace my motherboard if it is still under warrentyClick to expand...
I guess so, have you ever tried to establish the communication with the motherboard maker yet? Many of them has it own support lines that can provides the RMA informations.
2) could the burnt mark cause by the mismatching of the ram..Click to expand...
How? Did you actually force it to be seated in backward position? Look closely at the notch of RAM, they can only go one way, and you can feel the pressure of installing the ram if it goes in wrong way.
Hi all I am having a strange problem with my PC I have a year old motherboard Leadtek Winfast K nCR D Pro and a new Athlon XP and new x GB corsair value memory - PC slot issue weird Resets sticks My PC is randomly resetting itself even sitting at the bios screen just as though the reset button had been pressed I disconnected all the drives and it still happens I have installed a new PSU and it still happens This is the bit that confuses me I PC Resets - weird memory slot issue have three dimm slots one black two blue for dual channel If I put either of the chips only in the black slot I get NO problems at all If I put either of the chips only in either of the blue slots it randomly resets this happens whether I have a single chip in one of the blue slots or both chips in both blue slots Obviously when there is only one chip in one blue slot the bios does not show dual channel enabled Is there any difference in the way a motherboard deals with the memory in the blue slots which could indicate a problem with the memory or is it likely the motherboard is dying Thanks for your help nbsp
Assuming the RAM is correct for your PC go into BIOS and set DRAM or RAM or whatever your RAM is listed under to Auto, reboot and see if that helps. ALso, make sure that you have the RAM in the correct slots for DDR (probably the two blue as you stated).
I have installed the new windows 10 in my PC, before this i had windows 7 home premium. i have a memory card adapter in which i used to slid my micro SD card and was able to access it when i had windows 7, but when i upgraded to windows 10 and inserted the memory card reader in the slot it stopped detecting, their is no action and i am not able to access it.
System: Dell Studio 1558 2010-11 Model.
Dell Studio 1558 has not been tested by Dell for Windows 10 operating system you will not find drivers for it. However, please use the card reader Windows 7 driver and install it in compatibility mode.
Please let me know if this works.
Hi nbsp I recently bought a notebook from HP the HP G with A - processor Inside there was a GB DDR L- Kingston memory module slot with HP u... speed G2 - 355 only Memory on 1600MHz K7H44ES shipped and there are two slots available nbsp I checked with CPU-Z and other tools and it showed a DRAM Frequency of MHz nbsp I added a GB DDR HP 355 G2 K7H44ES - Memory speed 1600MHz only with on slot u... Hi, can anyone tell me how to access the second slot in my e-system 1511. I was told it was under the keyboard. I can unclip the clips but there seems to be something else holiding it down. I ve looked at the back and can see no screw with kb next to it to indicate that, that is the screw for the keypad.
Appreciate any advice. I have upgraded the first memory. I ordered 2gb and this came in two of 1gb so I am assuming there is a second slot.

I am happy to report that I have solved the identical problem you describe involving system hang on the Windows XP splash screen and the yellow memory stick light turning on at that point. Similar to your experience I could boot in safe mode but no way to get into a normal boot. As this was a client machine on a limited budget I could not waste a lot of time and contacted the client and got authorization to do a full system restore figuring it would eliminate any software issues (conclusion based on ability to boot in safe mode it seemed reasonable?). Much to my surprise after a full factory restore from the OEM restore DVD the symptom was still there, in fact the restore could not complete because it required a full normal boot to finish the restore. So now I was really perplexed, no way it was software (given that the drive had been fully erased and reformatted), so that only leaves hardware and the memory stick module seemed the likely culprit and on a hunch I tore the bloody thing apart (keyboard, rear hinge cover, and all screws from bottom of the case) which allowed be just enough clearance to get inside and remove the ribbon cable from the memory stick module and presto the problem is resolved and unit now boots normally and I am in the process of bringing the system back up to current standards with all the updates, etc, and have already done multiple reboots with no problems. So I suspect you will find similar results once you go through the difficult task of tearing it apart as our symptoms were identical.
Trust me it has nothing to do with virus or malware activity, it is an actual hardware failure!!

(NEWBIE/FIRST POST)I just purchased a brand new Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer from the Best Buy retailer yesterday (October 4 2016). Everything works fine so far except the computer Memory Card Slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) does not recognize any of my personal SD/SDHC Cards. All the SD/SDHC cards are valid and working due to the fact that my two older computers recognize the same identical SD/SDHC cards with no problem that I am using on the Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer. I currently have all the latest Windows 10 software drives installed. Is there a driver I can download off the internet or from the Lenovo support area before I return this brand new computer back to Best Buy?
I FINNALLY figured it out; here is the fix:As of October 5 2016 - Problem Resolved. The Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer is set-up and configured differently than most computers on the market by other manufactures. When you insert the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) into the Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer socket ? you must insert it ?upside-down? in order for the Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer to properly read it. Most other computers by other manufactures ? you always insert the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) right-side up with the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) top text/main-side facing you. But Lenovo wanted to be a little different I guess. Well anyway ? everything is working fine (no additional drivers needed) ?. again just simply flip the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) over/upside-down and insert. XPS-B' motherboard from eBay. It uses Rambus memory sticks, but has 3
memory slots to fill, while every motherboard of that type I have researched only
has 2 memory slots. In addition, most of the Series B desktops I looked into
seem to be limited to 512MB of memory.
Because my motherboard has 3 memory slots, would I be allowed to insert three 256MB memory sticks, giving me a total memory of 768MB? I'm told that you should
not exceed the required limit of memory. Would someone care to comment on my
Just try it, it'll either work or it won't work.
Quick question, can a single PCI slot fail and the rest work? I have a modem that started acting up and I pulled it out and put it back in and reinstalled it and it worked for two seconds and quit working. I then put a different modem in and it worked sometimes while sometimes it didn't. I am using a USB external modem and as you can see, I am connected. Is it a coincidence that I had two bad modems back to back or is the PCI slot bad? I haven't tried using a differnet slot yet because I wanted to see if one PCI slot can fail and the others work.
Yes it certainly can. You could have a electrical issue with the slot, it could also be dust build upl. You may also want to check the modems in a differnt PC as well in the rare cause you had two bad ones.
My friend the AGP slot Question about has the intel i -ITE and that motherboard has PCI and one AGP x slot Currently he has the geforce mx mb second gen T amp L no pixel shader support and wants to know because he hasn t got an internet connection at home he asked me to do him a favor To ask you if he can put the GeForce fx From PALiT on his AGP x I think that he can put it because on many reviews i have seen the AGP x x support for the specs of the card His agp is because you know-agp x is agp Now i have seen that the card supports agp and Does this mean he can put it Or if you can recommend a card Question about the AGP slot that can be put on the agp x but with the Watt PSU some better than the gf FX just for playin farcry on med-high nfs most wanted and carbon GTA san Andreas AGAIN I AM DOING THIS FOR MY FRIEND THIS ISN T MY PC nbsp
The problem is you have two standards. One for the power supply, which limits what can be used. And another for the AGP slot
He will have problems with the 8X in some 4X slots, but I do not know that board.
Most of the better online sites will tell you what the AGP cards they sell will require... as will the AGP manufacturers if you dig deeply enough.
I have a compaq p4 1519 And was wondering if I am able to get ATI radeon video card into my comuter and be able to work before I buy it so if you can please tell me if this is at all possible or if i need to buy something else to put in my computer before the video card to be able to work.
Compaq Presario SR1519ES, SR1519IT, SR1519UK or SR1519X?
Good day all! I have a Dell 8250, P4, 2.6ghz, 768mb RDRAM and 64mb PCI video. Purchased in 2003. I would like to upgrade my video card to an ATI Radeon 9800 256mb so that my son can play COD2 and BF2. Before I take the plunge, I have a few quick questions.
1. There is a slot slightly offset from the modem and video card slots. It appears to be an AGP slot but is green. A couple of friends have brown AGP slots on their motherboards. Do I have AGP?
2. How do I tell what kind of AGP slot I have (2x/4x/8x).
3. If I purchase an 8x, like the Radeon, will it work okay in the 2x/4x AGP slot?
Thanks for the help.

Sure sounds like the socket is bad, or the memory controller. You may have to live with a single DIMM in the bottom slot.

-1 gb (RD, RB, no software pinning),
-2gb (RD, RB, no software pinning),
-4gb (RD, no RB, software pinning).
Any experience in return? or it is just like inserting a SD Card in the Card Reader to Ready Boost?

That's just annoy me having spare mini Pci-e slot, as i won't install an expensive 3G card (I don't need it either!)
With 4 gigs of ram any sort of boost program isnt going to help much since it wont often be used.
I recently upgraded my processor amp motherboard from AMD Phenom II X Asus M N T-M Now it s AMD FX- amp Asus M A L-M LX I ran two modules of RAM GB GB on that previous motherboard These are my modules Corsair CMZ GX M A C Vengeance GB Single Module DDR Memory Kingston Value RAM GB don t know the exact model but it was a Mhz always 2nd DIMM Solved: on Memory slot on is hardware new reserved motherboard module Both modules have the same latency I just had to downclock the corsair module to Mhz amp then they both ran in dual channel mode Now on this new motherboard when I check sys info in BIOS it shows just GB RAM or GB basically it Solved: Memory on 2nd DIMM slot is always hardware reserved on new motherboard just detects what s in the first slot When Solved: Memory on 2nd DIMM slot is always hardware reserved on new motherboard I boot into Windows it says that GB or GB the other slot is always hardware reserved Also task manager shows wrong RAM speed Instead of Mhz it shows Mhz And when I really run it at Mhz or even below Mhz it s always wrong in task manager There s another interesting thing happening when I try to change the memory speed in BIOS When I change it amp as soon as I hit enter after F system just powers down for a few seconds amp boots right up This is just my second motherboard amp idk if it s normal but it sure doesn t feel right I m posting this after going through a lot of posts on similar topics amp the solutions are not working for me I even checked for bent pins on my CPU but it looks good As it looks either the RAM modules are incompatible on this motherboard but then why is the speed in task manager always wrong or something is wrong with the motherboard This is what I think but I need your help to make it work I m mentally exhausted now nbsp
So in February I ordered my kid an inspiron as first computer Later slot, card 11- per supposed have memory tag it it doesnt service is to inspiron but I decided to upgrade inspiron 11- per service tag it is supposed to have memory card slot, but it doesnt the memory and I called Dell and provided my service Tag Dell told me it had a GB memory card and I could upgrade to a GB card I ordered the card and disassembled my computer to find there is no slot to upgrade After an hour on the phone inspiron 11- per service tag it is supposed to have memory card slot, but it doesnt I find out inspiron 11- per service tag it is supposed to have memory card slot, but it doesnt that what I am looking at is one with a fixed memory module I told them that per my service tag it is supposed to have a slot and be upgradeable They told me there is nothing they can do So I say how bout you exchange this for one that has what I ordered They say since its over the days there is no way to return or exchange I said even though its your fault Am I being unreasonable All I want is what I ordered After a few more calls to India One person finally tells me there is a first and second generation of this laptop Ist gen has the fixed and the second has the replaceable So I tell them that per nbsp Dell tag nbsp this is supposed to be nd generation and therefor it was built wrong They again say quot we have a day no Hassel return quot and your over that Any suggestions folks I m sick of beating my head against the wall with these peoplehttp://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19992563
I put a stick in...(256) and macine only counts it as 128...what gives. I was told PC133...would work in PC100 boards. Was I lied to?
I'm working on a client's laptop who's been getting bluescreens for a few weeks now, and I just can't for the life of me figure out the actual solution. He gets a variety of STOPS such as IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, MEMORY MANAGEMENT, etc every 10 minutes or so when in normal boot and every hour or so if in safe mode. I'm leaning towards it being a RAM issue as is he. Although his RAM passes numerous stock and third party memory test (such as Memtest 86), I have not opened the laptop up and individually tested each stick, but I have strong suspicion. Here are his minidumps and all other related files from the last week or so.
Can anyone help me out? Much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Hi, when i uprgrade the ram, i see on MB a expsansion slot, is a msata o a mini pcie? i want to put a ssd here if is possible. thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/question-on-expansion-slot-on-Mb/td-p/5835240
I know that different types of ram (DDR1, DDR2,... etc) Have different color slots to tell the difference between them, my question is what color corresponds to which..? such as (from what i think I know )
Baige or Black = DDR1?
Black = DDR2?
Blue = DDR3?? I would like to know what blue is speciffically becuase that what my MB uses.
( ) = DDR4?
( ) = DDR5?
I would like to know for future MB upgrades
oh ok i looked a little and found out the multiple colors on my mb are for dual channel support, my question is then changed to "how can you tell what type of ram your mb uses"? I would do the obvious and look inside the comp but there unlabeled
I currently am running a Asus EN8800GT and have been for some time. However the PCIe X16 slot on my Foxconn motherboard says in the manual that is is a PCIe X16 (signal x1)...this concerns me.
Am I getting the full potential out of my vid card? Or is my PCIe slot restricting some of it's potential due to the signal x1 thing as I'm not sure what that means.
Would it be worth it to upgrade my mother board? I am also running 3gb ddr2 667 if it makes a difference.

If you have for example a 128 ram and a 64 ram chip which one goes in DIM1 or DIM 2 slot? does it mater or make a difference?
most newer motherboards will allow you to install them in any slot. Some older motherboards wanted them installed in certain configurations. Check the motherboard manual and see if it lists configuration options for memory
Generally I try to put the biggest chip in the first dimm slot
So I damaged 2 of the 3 USB 2.0 ports on my laptop (very stupid i know )
My laptop supports ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54, so I plan to buy one with extra uSB 2.0 ports.
However, before I get my expectations up, I wanted to ask two questions (which may end up being one)
Will the card be able to charge an iPod when plugged in? From what I've been told its no, but if thats the case, it will still do a sync, correct?
The other question is: If I have an external hard drive that runs off of an AC adapter, will it work in the card slot as well?
BONUS QUESTION: Will I run into any of these problems if I buy a USB Hub?
Regarding your ipod, it will charge normally, and thus sync normally. But, regarding your external hard drive, normally, it won't work without the AC Adapter, you should have mentioned what kind of external hdd ( 2.5' or 3.5" ). However, concerning the hub, you should make sure that the usb hub should be a powered hub in order to make the ipod (for example) charge while connected.
I've been researching motherboards, and I've been eyeing some nice SLi boards (two x16 PCI-E slots), though I HIGHLY doubt I'd ever install two video cards.
The extra x16 slot would be nice, but most MoBo manufacturers sacrifice at least one x1 and/or PCI slot in the process. But if they start making cards other than video to use the spare x16 slot, I don't want to end up wishing I hadn't sacraficed an x16 for a more lowly x1 or PCI slot (btw: I need at least two and preferably three).
I have found plenty of PCI-E x1 cards, so the x1 slots appear to be more useful "at the moment".
So my question is, does anyone make anything else that plugs into a PCI-E x16 slot, or is it like an AGP slot in that it's good for nothing but video?
I'm not aware of PCI-X 16 slots used for anything other than video. The bandwidth seems enormous. I am curious if these slots will be used in the future for data transfer like a parallel bus.
This is from my computer's spec sheet:
PCI-Express 2.0 x4 (mech. x16) 1 x using x4 notched connector
PCI-Express 2.0 x8 2 x
PCI-slots 1 x
Slot Notes PCI 32/33 MHz, 3.3V, full-height slot with low-profile-option available
What does this tell me about the type of graphics card I can use?
I just got an ORICO 4 Bay slot i want to setup some hard drives for RAID Redundancy. Whats the best RAID to set it up as if one drive fails/dies I can just swap it out with another drive so I don't lose any data.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/383015-orico-4-bay-slot-raid-question.html

There's a small expansion slot labelled PCIE1x1 next to the longer slot in which I've installed a graphics card. What can the smaller one be used for? Can it for example hold an SSD? Thanks,Tom
Go to Solution.
OK, Yes that is the one that I was Refering to... There was some boards that could connect to that slot I don't see any ATM but they were non Controller systems Plug in and some would be found. Some wouldn't So I think they have done away with them... One with a Controller like the one in my picture here.... Can be used for SDD and also an extra HDD off it as well. They have others that are just SSD and some that have 2 spaces for SSD on the card but may not work for your space as they are longer cards. There are also some that offer SSD, SATA and exta ESata out the back... It is all up to what you want and how much you like to spend.http://community.acer.com/t5/Aspire-Desktops/TC-705-EB53-expansion-slot-question/td-p/411193/jump-to/first-unread-message
Sorry to sound so n00b-ish, but I play all my games on my xbox 360, and don't really know much about computers..ha, I just wanna play the sims 2 without the base game lagging. lmao, anyways, can I put this: http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/listConfigurationDetails.jspa?productConfigurationId=79772
Provided that slot you have is agp x8 and not a slower slot then it should work fine.
Only thing, there was no mention of minimum psu spec in your link. You need to have a look at the label on the side of your psu for its wattage and its amperage on the 12volt rail.
You might want to blank out your windows serial so than no-one else can use it.
Can anybody tell me in what order to add memory in the 4 slots (2 under KB and 2 under bottom cover)for best performance? I ordered just 8GB from Lenovo and now what to add. The supplied 8GB seems to be installedunder the KB. Thanks
W520 4270-CTO | 2720QM | 16 GB RAM | Quadro 1000M | BIOS 1.42 | PwrMgr 3.66 | 256 SSD
they should all be the same spec i.e speed and cl rating so it should not make any difference which order you put them inhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P50-Memory-Configuration/td-p/3325281
I am going to upgrade my system with a new motherboard and an AMD 939 pin Athlon 64 3500+
My question is should I use 2 X 256MB memory sticks or 1 X 512 MB. Will it make any difference to performance?
The MoBo is the ASUS A8V Deluxe, not sure if the link will work, not included one before. http://uk.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A8V Deluxe&langs=11
Thanks in advance
2 x 256MB will allow you to run in a Dual Channel configuration that will improve memory bandwidth and therefore improve performance.
Control Panel, General properties window shows memory available as 3.25 gb. I have 4gb installed. The recommended virtual memory is supposed to be 4096 mb. Why is there a difference? If the General properties is showing only 3.25 gb available can I or should I still set the virtual memory use to 4096mb? I have XP2 Pro installed.
You have the 32-bit version of Windows XP, so it's not going to recognize and use more than 3.0 - 3.25 GB of RAM. More than 2.0 GB of RAM is overkill anyway with Windows XP.
Set virtual memory to "System managed size". There's no need to manually set it.

I have a quick XP question....
I have a computer with a 15 gig hard drive that has XP Pro on it (upgraded from preinstalled copy of WinME) and my friend has a computer with a 40 gig hard drive and XP Home Edition.
He hardly uses any of his hard drive, maybe 4 or 5 gigs max, and he has offered to switch hard drives with me. Naturally I agreed, and my question is this:
What is the best way to do this? Do I switch hard drives directly? Do I get him to buy a copy of XP Pro and upgrade first and then switch drives? Or do I just erase his whole hard drive, then install it on my computer and use an XP boot disk?
I'll need the wisdom from the great minds here at TSG for this project.
I experience the same problem again and again:
Some programs do not totally close when I shut them down. For example, I use Chrome and after I close it, I can see in the task manager, remnants of Chrome still running in processes (not applications). Sometimes, I experience the same with Word. I close it, yet I can find a small winword still running in processes (not application). Finally, when I want to turn the laptop off, only after a few minutes it responds, saying there are still programs running, and if I want to end them (but no application is running in the task manager).
What can be causing that?
Sometimes programs are left 'hanging' because the temporary files that they created have not closed.
Before closing the laptop down, I recommend that you 'clean' the .tmp files from the system.
There are many ways to do this; one of which is to use a fairly easily used freeware program called "CleanUp".
This is a link to download CleanUp.
Click on CleanUp452.exe; it is not necessary to click the 'Pay Now' button, unless you wish to donate to the creator of the program.
Download and install 'CleanUp'; try it out, and post back telling us what the result is.
I have malware that has just about took over my computer (I've posted a HiJack log in the Malware Removal forum and waiting until someone has time to take a look at my post). At the moment I can't get to Control Panel, Computer Restore/Non Restore, etc.
My question . . . I have a external hard drive and ran a full backup about a week ago (the only thing I didn't do was make a floppy copy of my operating system). IF I can find the original disk of Window XP that shipped with my computer, would it be easier to start all over; that is, to completely reformat the hard drive, reload the operating syterm and then the other stuff from the backup? Is this a viable option? I've never done anything like this and assume it can be quite a time-consuming operation.
Thanks to anyone who can offer any help.
In a previous thread, it was mentioned that "....If you do, you can do a clean reinstall and use the key on the COA certificate to activate Windows...". I am assuming in my ignorance that this is the 'product key'. Does this imply that I can use a windows disk (of the same rating i.e. win7 32 bit for example) and activate that copy with the COA certificate on a machine, or is this not the way to go about it. It's not urgent, just something I would like to clarify should it ever be needed.
Yes, you can reinstall using the product key on the COA for your licensed version ...

So basically a friend of mine's Skype was compromised by some people and they were mass sending a picture of an old man from Google images titled "crazy.jpg." I accepted the transfer through Skype, but I didn't open it. I simply deleted it and recycled it because he warned me on the phone. I am scanning my computer using Malwarebytes. Is it possible that I am keylogged or RAT'd? I know this may be a dumb question, but I would like to know.
Since we don;t have a general computer tread I'll ask here cause you guys in this area know more than I do.
Is it a good idea to shut down a computer each day or should I just leave it running or put it to sleep or something else?
I've heard different things everywhere, and I've been curious for a long time but I never asked.
From the hardware perspective,(i am no hardware guy though ) it depends on the computer , i think, as in servers are built to be on for longer periods of time, while home computers- probably not.
Though from the software point of view, i like to shut it down or put it in sleep mode. though while i do use sleep mode a lot (too much) at night, i try to get in a occasional restart, as it rids the system of all those little software bugs that occur along the way and build up the longer the system is on (or that's why i restart it )
What is the feeling of the experts on this forum, about the Hirens CD. Is it a good idea to burn a copy of it for general use, or is it too advanced?

Here is my question?
My cousins live in America Chicago....
and they are not in contact with me...
I have thier home address and thier telephone numbers
I am wondering is there any way to find their email address.
any website or any other idea.
There's always the "low-tech" approach..........call and ask them. :>
Unless they posted it on a public web site, there's not really a "national directory", per se.
i dunno if this is in the right area. i was wondering if there is a way to hide task switching. ty.
Im not sure what you want to do? Can you be more descriptive?
Hey, i wonder if someone could explain this to me...I like using my DOS-Prompt because i find it much faster. Now in school or on someone else's computer when i launch it I'm automatically being accused of 'hacking'. Like what gives? I dont think people realise the DOS-Prompt can say access denied too. Does anyone know why its seen as a hacker thing rather than just an interface?
I just don't get it... I was almost banned from the school computer system for being on one like what the hell?
They just didn't know DOS was the only interface before Apple came up with window interface and Bill Gate gets rich.http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/218009-general-question.html
Is there a difference between Windows NT Professional and Windows NT 4.0 ? Further, I sometimes see where it calls for Windows NT 4.0 or later. Is NT Professional "later"?
Thanks, in advance, for anyone's help.
I've never heard of Windows NT Professional. Are you sure you're not thinking of Windows 2000 Professional? There are two versions of Windows NT 4.0, Server and Workstation.
does anyone know of a site where i can get a scan and download free driver updates for my comp becausei cant seem to find any for my sound card or my graphics card so i cant run some of the games i have like northland and pool of radiance
