Intel Pentium 4 vs Intel Celeron D 330

Q: Intel Pentium 4 vs Intel Celeron D 330

im looking at a
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 2.6Ghz / 512K Cache / 400MHz FSB / Socket 478 / Processor for $159.99
and a
Intel Celeron D 330 2.66Ghz / 256K Cache / 533 FSB / Socket 478 / Processor for $79.99
and was wondering if there is a difference between celeron and pentium. And why is the price so different. All i want is a computer to do basic things like internet, microsoft Word, works, and basic things like that. I wont be using it for gaming or anything so i dont need anything extremly fast. Should i just go with the celeron D? Ill be running Win 2000 and have 256 PC3200 DDR RAM if that helps at all.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ello all,
Can anyone tell me what would be best for my pc i have a Intel(R) Celeron(R) 2.40GHz current speed is 3200MHz. But i have a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.26GHz just sitting there doing nothing. now i have been told that if i put the Pentium in my pc it would be better and faster is this true or not.

A:Intel(R) Celeron(R) or Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4

If your motherboard properly supports the Pentium 4 & if you can OC it to speeds close to 3.0GHz, it should be much better than the Celeron. It all depends on the Pentium 4 though, mostly which core it is based on (Northwood, Prescott, etc.).

Do you have any extra info on it ?

Could anyone shed some light on the subject at hand, my Dad is in the market for a new CPU. He's asked me what the difference is between an Intel Pentium (P4), and a Celeron of equal speed. We know right now that the Celeron is much cheaper, but what about value and durability? Are they upgradable? User friendly?

A:Pentium 4 2.4GHz or Intel Celeron D 330

They are both so comparable in performance, there would be little difference in using either of them.

I have a similar situation with a Celeron D 3.2 (LGA775) system and a P4 2.8 CPU that I could use. After looking up the benchmarks, I found that it was a flip flop as to which one out performed the other. It boiled down to only gaining performance when processing certain things. Therefor it was not even worth considering the CPU switch.

Just curious what are the major difference between the Celeron and Pentium CPUs comparison is between the Celeron Pentium GH to I run processors Celeron b/t Intel Pentium and Difference 4 a small Difference b/t Intel Celeron and Pentium 4 processors business and I sell computers to people locally where I live and I get asked this question every once in a while Most of my users are moderate gamers and business users but very litte hard core gamers I hear alot of contraversy over the Intel Celeron CPU compared to the Pentim CPU I have some guys who swear up and down that the Intel Celeron CPU is not even worth the time But I personally believe that there is very little diference between both of the CPU compared to the price you will pay for the Pentium considering most of my customers aren t hard core gamers Then I would recommend a Pentium or a AMD Athlon XP CPU Am I right I m just curious what a knowlegable person has to say about each CPU nbsp

Upgrading a computer... Need to be able to do light video editing. Ok, the motherboard is ASRock P4S61.

The processor it is using is Intel Celeron 320.... Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz. I would like to upgrade to a Pentium 4 processor. Is it worth it? And aside from "Socket 478" is there anything else that needs to be taken into account for compatability if I were to upgrade?
I am also upgrading the RAM. I have used the scanner on to find which RAM is compatable. Will upgrading the processor to a Pentium 4 make any difference to the compatability of the RAM? Thanks.

A:Solved: Upgrading Intel Celeron to Pentium 4? Compatability questions

As far as the processor goes, you might check for a bios update
in the download section of the asrock site to insure compatability.
Be very careful when doing bios updates.
Pentium 4 processors do perform better than celerons and you
should be able to install a faster processor.

Memory compatability is more a motherboard concern.
Crucial usually provides good matches.

Hay there, I recently obtained a new system for a very cheap price with a surprisingly good processer with it.

New computer: -

Intel DQ45EK mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.9GHz Socket 775
3GB ram (max 4gb)

Current Computer: -

Gigabyte P31-D3SL mobo
Intel Pentium D 925 3.00 GHz Socket 775
4GB ram

Alright so the issue is I want to swap the processors around but when I put the Pentium D into the Intel DQ45EK mobo it comes up with a blank screen with the fan blowing intensely, reboots and then just hangs with the intense fan speed. When I swap back the processors the orignal Core 2 Duo does this same thing but then it goes back to normal after a few reboots. The E7500 works fine in my old system though... I would think the pentium D would be widely supported x-x

Any ideas cause im lost at the moment.

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz

The games specs are:
Operating System: 2000/XP/Vista
Processor: 3GHz Intel Pentium 4 or similar processor
Memory: 1 GB Ram
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant. 128 MB DirectX compliant, Shader 2.0 Enabled

So could anyone please take a look at this and help me figure out why the game wont run on my laptop.

A:Intel Duo vs Intel Pentium

What does it do when you try to start the game (game just not start / black screen / error message)?
Your Mobile Intel 965 intergrated graphics card probably is not compatible with the game. Checking out the system requirements online and it states on multiple sites: "...Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported..." Have you tried going into the BIOS and upping the video memory to see if that helps?
What is the make and model of your laptop? It may help with figuring the problem out.

The 1.4GHZ Celeron has a 100mhz FSB so I hope you're using at least PC100 memory with it. My brother ordered a Compaq similar to your PC1 machine ( it's a shame to buy a Compaq I know ) & it came with slow PC100 CAS3.:dead:

I mean surely they could have gotten better memory for it, especially for the price he paid.

Have you installed the Intel Application Accelerator ( IAA ) ?

Celerons don't overheat much but you might still want to check to see if your case has enough ventilation.

A:Intel Celeron D336

First off, it looks like that particular CPU (the celeronD336) may not be compatible with that particular motherboard, so if you haven't purchased already, hold off until we can confirm. (source: )

On to some of your questions:

I found an Intel Celeron D336 2.8 Ghz new for 71.00. This is a pretty fast processors but i was wondering why it is so cheap.Click to expand...

Celeron processors are great for basic internet browsing and document writting. But if you are into any heavier applications that require CPU horsepower, the celeron are a very dissapointing choice. You mention you are building this system specifically for gaming. Do not get a celeron CPU. You will be extremely dissapointed.

Also I would like to know what other kind of processors i should get instead thats under $180.00.Click to expand...

If you are set on that motherboard you are looking at, then this would be a decent CPU to plug in there:

either a sapphire X1300 or a eVGA 7300 Gs video card (which one is better)Click to expand...

Of those two, I'd go for the X1300. It will outperform the 7300gs in gaming as it has a higher clock speed and higher memory bus.

could someone also explain the difference between an ATA and an SATA harddrive and which one is betterClick to expand...

SATA are easier to install, they use less power in your system and provide you with faster speeds.

OK, now that the basic questions are out of the way.... what is your budget? If you give us what you are working with and EXACTLY what that budget must include (monitor? Windows? case? keyboard etc) then we can help you put together a decent gaming system in your budget.

Those graphics cards you are looking at will maybe run today's newer games, but you are going to be turning down the settings to low on the more graphics intensive games in order to get decent framerates.

My computer is running very very slow. I do not want to upgrade anything on it at the moment, because I'm still saving up for my dream computer. I just want a quick fix to make my computer run faster. I have a GeForce FX 5200 PCI video card (which sucks more than just space inside of my computer). I needed a cheap video card for games. Is there anyway that I can overclock my intel celeron processor? It's got a 666MHz processor speed. I have 191MB of RAM installed (I should get more soon). I am running windows ME, and have a 14GB HD. I have tried many "speed up programs", but I have finally decided that the only way to make your computer faster is to overclock it. Thanks for looking.

A:Overclocking Intel Celeron

Depedning on the computer, you may OC it by 0~30Mhz. IE: if its a NAME BRAND system, no.

Reality is, you're not going to squeeze much more power out of your CPU. I used to OC my AMD 2500, in which I easily got an extra 200Mhz out of the chip. BUT - it effected my system's timing and while it improved in some areas - it lowered the performance in others (like the HD) - So, I have brought it back down to its default speed.

Just save for your next upgrade... And you can buy these parts piece by piece.

1 - case, $50~100 (inwin 523J or Enermax 1101 series - ver sweet)

2 - AMD64-3000 (64bit CPU) - $200 (in a month or so)

Stick with what you have now if its a 3.6Ghz processor. But are you sure its socket 478 and not 775?

If the 3.2Ghz EE is very, very cheap or free then it would give you slightly better performance but not worth the retail price of the EE.

Is your computer build by a company like HP, Dell etc. Or is it custom? If it is made by a company can you tell us the brand and model number "HP Pavilion 6000" for example. If its custom maybe you have a receipt with the motherboard model written on it. You could also pop open the side panel and look for your motherboards name on the motherboard.

If not maybe google some ways to find out your motherboard model for us ;D

It is certainly not normal, though I've personally seen this on many Celeron models (like the 900 and the E3300), and it usually turns out OK anyway.

I've had a minor incident when it mis-showed the frequency calculation, but in that case it was related to the motherboard not supporting OC that well...

Just as an FYI, overclocking even though the frequency-calculation is incorrect usually don't result in any damage. But would be very careful if I were you.

I have an old computer with following configuration.

Intel Celeron Processor 501 Mhz with 192 MB of RAM

I recently loaded Windows XP 2002 Home Edition with SP3 onto this system. The computer after that is very slow and hangs.

The system is basically used only for internet surfing and checking webmails.

Do I have to upgrade the system to P IV or will upgrading the RAM to 1 GB solve the problem ?

A:Will Windows XP run with Intel Celeron processor

It's better to upgrade in P IV because you will face this kind of problem time to time when browsing the internet. make sure to have a ram of 512 MB or more and when using internet do install a good antivirus software to make your pc fast and virus free.

If I put this processor in a 800/530 MHz FSB mboard, will there be a data slowdown or loss (the processor has a 400 MHz FSB.) Or will this be like memory and revert to the slower and just operate as 400 MHz?

A:Solved: Intel Celeron 2.7 GHz processor

No, processors are not like memory. You have to look at the board specifications to see what procesors are supported by a particular board. What processors are supported by a particular board are dependent on three board components, i.e. the chipset, the BIOS and of course the processor.

The 2 machines I primarily use are pretty old socket 478 machines. One machine has an Intel D875PBZ board with an 875P chipset which will only support specific Pentium 4 Extreme Edition and Pentium 4 processors with a 800MHZ or 533MHz FSB. The other has an Intel D865PERL board with an 865PE chipset that will only support specific Extreme Edition Pentium 4 processors, Pentium 4 Processors, Celeron D processors and Celeron Processors with an 800 MHZ, 533 MHz. and 400 MHz. FSB.

You need to check the manufacturers specifications for your specific board to see what processors are, OR are not supported by that board. Intel states for each board the following statement; "Use of unsupported processors may result in improper operation, damage to the desktop board or processor, or reduced product life."

You can install the Celeron 2.7GHz. processor and it may run, however if it does run you still have the risk of damage to the processor and/or board unless that processor is specifically supported.

Processor speed is determined by the multiplier(in your case 9.5) times the front side bus speed, again in your case 66.66mhz or 633 total.
To overclock you must raise the front side bus speed in small increments and see if the machine will handle it.

Since you say your PC is a Dell, I don't think you will have any options to over-clock.

Celeron's are locked processors, so you don't have the option to increase the multiplier.
Dell as well as other manufacturers usually lock the BIOS, so you wouldn't be able to increase the base frequency either.

It runs great but doesn't boot? You shouldn't have to "fix" a computer you've had for 2 hours unless you downloaded something or physically damaged it. I've yet to see computers recalled (batteries, yes), so, no, that's not the problem. Take it back and get a replacement.

In this case, the thermal pads should be removed and thoroughly cleaned off. A good quality thermal compound like Arctic Silver should be applied sparingly. If you had to move the CPU heat-sink around even a little while attaching it to the motherboard, the thermal pad could have been rubbed off and it is not sufficient to cool the CPU now

A:Intel Celeron D Mother Board Compatibility?

There is a good chance your CeleronD is not compatible with that board. I ran into this problem when we switched over to the CeleronD at work, we had to make sure we were getting the newer revision of the board (Albatron PM266 Pro), as the older one looked identical, but was not compatible (and no BIOS update would fix that).

It's true that they overclock well, I got my 2.66GHz one up to 3.4GHz without even needing to increase the CPU voltage.

Pin compatible? The sockets look identical, if that's what you mean. But boards may require hardware changes (e.g. improved power delivery) to support a Prescott. You aren't likely to damage a board by plugging one in, it just won't boot.

No, the motherboard supplies the voltage to it. The CPU tells the motherboard the voltage it wants, but some boards (including mine) allow you to increase the voltage.

The Lenovo S20 - 30 laptop has an Intel Celeron N2840 cpu. (a 64bit cpu) And 2GB RAM. And probably UEFI bios.

I'd like to install Windows 7 32bit. (Home Premium). A clean install.
Is this possible? In the hardware level, is this possible?

A:Windows 7 32bit on Intel Celeron N2840

1. Check in disk management whether the C partition is encrypted. This may be an instant Go device.

2. You probably have only a 32GB disk. I think W8.1 is a lot better on that. It is small and fast.

3. Check your BIOS whether you can shut off Secure Boot and set it to Legacy Made.

I think you will have more trouble than it is worth changing the OS. I have a couple of similar devices like that (Asus T100 and Asus X205). They run perfectly with W8.1.

I wouldn't recommend putting a micro ATX board into a (standered) ATX case.

Also the onboard graphics (6100) are not ment for gammming, if you're looking for gamming look into a $150+ plus graphic card

So, you need a different motherboard for you're case, a graphic card, and some ram.

The maximum RAM a system can use is determined by several factors, but the CPU is rarely the limiting factor and not how to determine the maximum amount of RAM for a system. Since this is a laptop you need to see how much the laptop supports based on motherboard(so chipset and number of slots), and by the operating system, 32 bit(4GB but only about 3GB usable) or 64 bit and the version, and also by the version ie. Windows 7 Starter has a 2GB limit, Home Basic has a 8GB limit for 64-bit or 4GB for 32-bit), or Home, or Professional. The processor does have a maximum amount of memory it can address but its well beyond what the other limitations are. Post or look up the exact model number of the laptop or use a memory configurator like the one at the site to see how much RAM the hardware will take and then check the

The rest of the software specs my computer matches, but before I try anything I want to make sure that I truly have an intel pentium 4 or better.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

A:Question about Intel Pentium 4
Not sure what OS you use but if you can install Win XP 64bit you can add up to 4gigs (or more if your board supports it). Pentium 4 is a 12 year old single core cpu. You have a Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile cpu. So yes, it's better.

Simple question that I can't seem to find the answer to: Which is overall a better chip (speed/power consumption), Intel Pentium M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz/2MB Cache) vs 1.5GHz Power PC G4 (Mac)? I am not sure how to compare the two chips. I am debating on purchasing an Apple PowerBook or some Dell model. I will be using it for very very basic operations (word processing, e-mail, web browsing, mp3's, and some 2-d digital photo manipulation). Thanks for any advice

A:Intel Pentium M vs Power PC G4?

Well here we are talking (no pun intended! Or is there?) Apples Versus Oranges. When you look at a g4 powerbook, you are talking a bit more money. Not much as they have come down in price. But you are also talking about the Apple OS. you would be limited to running Apple specific software (Unless you install a PC Emulator). Surfing the web, doing email and such as that is about the same. If you have particular PC programs that you are used to and prefer then go with a PC based laptop. There are some killer deals on PC Based Laptops out there right now. And you can if you want to run Apple PRograms, install an emulator for this also.

Are you well versed in OS X or are you just looking at which would be the better deal. Service wise and availability I would have to recommend a PC based Laptop. Though I myself have been tempted and looking into a Power Book lately.

What is the PROS and CONS of each of these processors? I wanna know because I was thinking if it was the wrong decision to make myself a Intel-based comp.

A:AMD Athlon 64 vs Intel Pentium 4

How about throwing Intel's new dual core processor into that comparison.

Now that we have some real changes on the cpu horizon it would be nice to see the techpot elders weighing in with their insights and opinions.

I have Windows 7 32 bit installed and am trying to upgrade to Windows 10 but I got a message that my processor doesn't support NX but that I may be able to enable it in the bios. I couldn't find out on Intel's website whether or not my processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2 GHZ will support NX. According to Microsoft, NX is used for Malware. I have a Malware program so I don't really care if my processor supports NX or not but apparently Microsoft won't install Windows 10 without it. I am up to date with my processor drivers but not sure whether I can enable NX with the processor I have. I have a Gateway E-4000 Desktop with a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 graphics card. Does anyone out there know for sure if this is possible on my system? Let me know if you need any further info. I appreciate any help.

A:Does Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2 GHZ support NX? appears that your CPU does not support NX, necessary for DEP (Data Execution Protection). The BIOS cannot enable a feature your CPU does not have. That CPU is very old, released early 2002.

Im trying to find out/understand the relative speed of the new pentium M processors

I have been offered a laptop through work with the following specs

Intel pentium M 730. 1.6gig 533mhz fsb (2mb L2)
512DDR Ram
60gig h/drive

and i was wondering how the clock speed compares to a normal intel processor ie 2.4gig.

I have tried looking on intels website and had no joy wotsoever, and seeing as i am a noobie, am easily cofused

A:intel pentium M processors

well a 1.6Ghz P4 M runs at 1.6Ghz. My 2.6 runs at 2.6

difference is in chip archetecture.

I have been looking at this site M vs. better? Duo which Core Intel Pentium is one http www powernotebooks com for purchasing a laptop they previously had a model with an Intel Pentium M that was Ghz and now they have changed that model to include around the same specs to a Intel Core Duo Ghz They both have Intel Centrino Wireless Technology and I was wondering which is better Intel Core Duo or Intel Pentium M I know Pentium M s run rather cool and are extremely fast but I wasn t sure if Intel Core Duo vs. Pentium M which one is better? I was going to get the same deal if it came with an Intel Core Duo I was just hoping the Intel Core Duo wasn t like a Celeron or anything How is the Duo in terms of heat and speed I figured Dual Core would be nice in a laptop but I wasn t sure of any drawbacks opposed to the Intel Pentium M Any help would be greatly appreciated since I plan on ordering this afternoon - Thank you nbsp

A:Intel Core Duo vs. Pentium M which one is better?

The Core Duo is actually the evolution of the Pentium M core.
Intel realised the Gigahertz game wasn't going to work anymore, after the success of AMD Athlon64, and the Pentium M.

In other words, the Core Duo should be a very good CPU.

Hey every one,

I'm looking into buying a cheap and faster processor.

Here is what my mother board can handle processor wise: Click here.

Now I'm looking into getting this processor:

Now if you read the description you will notice that it says "The Pentium 4 2.8B 2.8GHz processor delivers rock-solid performance across a wide range of....."

Now this processor is perfect for my pc. But what is this 2.8B?

If a software program has a pumbished recomended processor spec that is a 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 (or equivalent) with 2 gig RAM. And a minimum requirement of 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 with 512 meg. What is considered equivalent from the AMD line?

Would a Opteron 1212 2.0 GHz with 2 Gig, be considered the same? If not, what would?

A:3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 (or equivalent)

Compare on AMD Athlon64 model numbers, so you'd want an Athlon64 3400+ or better. I'm sure an Opteron 1212 would do it easily.

looking at dxdiag what does the 2 cpu's mean? I did want to install 2 monitors on this machine but ony have a plug for 1. the 2 cpus makes me wonder....

A:intel pentium 4 cpu 3.4 ghz (2 cpus)

Most likely referring to a technology called 'Hyperthreading'. Made by Intel, and introduced into some of their P4 processors, Hyperthreading or HT is essentially a 'virtual' dual-core CPU. The way the processor functions is designed to mimic two separate processors inside a single core processor. If your processor has HT, some system diagnostics will report it as 2 processors, when you only have one. Do not confuse HT with the new Core 2 Duo processors by Intel, as these new chips are true dual-core processors.

In order to install two monitors, your video card needs to support multiple monitors. Does your video card have two monitor connectors on it or just one?
