I`m having trouble upgrading my mobo.I have an older p4 1.40 ghz standard type cpu.The original mobo is a ecs model925 v1.0 with fsb @400mhz Iwant to upgrade my video but this board only handles 4x agp.I have tried a pc chips p4 fsb800 model m981g and an abit v17 pt880 and both did the same thing-they powered up but did nothing else,no video,no dos not even a code beeb. With the abit i even upgraded to a 400w power supply.Right now I`m not sure but I believe i have a 300w supply installed. I guess my question is can I get a mobo-cpu combo, and if I do do i have to reinstall my hdd to this board. It is a hitachi deskstar 7k80 80gig 7200rpm.The vid card i have-want to use is an xfx nvidia gforce 5200 fx agp-8x ,any suggestions are welcome.https://forums.techguy.org/threads/upgrading-mother-board.378113/
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
As you can see from my system spec I am currently running a old sock A mo/bo and cpu, my win-7 32bit O/S is installed and runs ok (a bit slow but stable)
However, I have just treated myself to some new parts which are, Asus M4A785TD-V EVO Socket AM3 mo/bo, AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 CPU and Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz HyperX Memory Kit CL7 1.7V Ram.
Once these new parts are installed and I connect my current hard drive with my current O/S installed will it boot into windows or will it not like all the hardware changes ?
It's possible that it will boot into Windows and install the necessary drivers and such. I would not trust it myself and would opt for a new installation instead.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/54684-upgrading-mother-board-cpu-ram.html
Ok I am upgrading my system , from a Asrock 75m-dgs with amd a10 5800k cpu , To an Asrock 970 extreme r2.0 with cpu amd fx 8350
my questions as both motherboard and cpu are similar in manufactures would I need a full disk wipe or will I be able to just plug and play my boot ssd drive without formatting ??
The best practice would be to reinstall the OS once you've completed the upgrade. You'll need all the new motherboard's drivers, chipset drivers etc so a clean install is always the best way to go.http://www.pchelpforum.com/computer-diy/123516-upgrading-mother-board-questions.html
ok question is: I have a Compaq Presario tower with a 266mhz Intel P-II processor and factor Board. I am looking to speed things up to at least 800mhz and was wondering what is the better processor and board combo for the money?
and what price range am I looking at? was hoping to keep it under 300 bucks but want a faster comp too so if you have any info, I would love the help.
A word of warning, if you plan on using the compaq and just change the motherboard and processor it may not fit. Compaq uses proprietary everything. I maybe wrong but keep it in mind. If it where me, I would buy a new case with power supply, get the motherboard and cpu, and use the rest of the components from the compaq.
You can buy a half decent case and power supply for less than a hundred.
You can check compaq's site and see if you can get any dimension's on your current case but more than likely it is a proprietary design for them. Even if the motherboard will physically fit inside the case the i/o's probably won't line up(meaning the usb/paralell port/mouse/keyboard/ etc connectors)

you cant use the same xp on another motherboard.
I have windows for system builders because I built my own system. I was told that you can only install it on one PC. Once it is installed, it will not be able to install on other PCs. I am planning on upgrading my motherboard to an SLI soon. Will I be able to put this version of windows back on? It's the same computer, just a different motherboard. I'm not sure how the software detects if it's a different computer.

Well, all u need is a "p4" mobo, becuase all have the same procesor socket. U need 2 mind out whether u have ddr dual ddr or sdram. The easiest thing is, as u said 2 take the mobo 2 the comp guy, and ask him about momory.
New Guy here is in need of locating an older Latitude CPX Mother Board. I realize this is a tall order..because its old, but thought I would check. I was permenetly injured a few years ago (seriously) and am trying to get 3 kids into and through school. I have this Latitude..CPX yea its 6 years old, but I have nothing in it. IS it possible to locate a Mother Board. The Keyboard area of the mother board is out, i was told. I bought a new keyboard... only to find its likely the mother board. The minute I download the keyboard drivers... the keys work properly. Then, when I restart it.... boom... the keys are all screwed up. I hit the N key and a 6 appears??? Stuff like that. Anyway, any leads or suggestions, please let me know. I'm a real rookie at computers. Thanks,
It sounds like you need to remap your keyboard. Go the following Microsoft webpage:
and download the Server 2003 tools software for free (good for XP too). Run the "remapkey.exe" tool to reprogram your keyboard--provided you're running Windows XP, of course.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
I have a Compaq Presario CQ5210f with a M2N68-LA (Narra6) motherboard and I also have a old Compaq Presario SR1010NX with a MS-6577 (Giovani, Giovani2) mother board and it seems like the second mother board is better than the first. I would like to know which one is better because I have both computer towers but only use the CQ5210f. I am planning on putting in a new graphics card soon and I cant afford a whole new computer or motherboard right now so I have to pick between these to.

No contest the second one. The first is an ancient (in computer terms) Pentium 4/DDR/AGP based board, whereas the first is a much more recent AMD AM3/DDR3/PCI-E board that the Compaq bios allowing can up to probably the Phenom II x4 965, which will eat that old P4 for breakfast (would eat for lunch and dinner too).http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/160234-mother-board-better.html
well don't now if anybody can help but ill give it a go.

Have an E Machine PC it is not booting up, so, I open up the computer. I saw the CPU fan was not running and the processor was hot. I went out purchase used CPU Celeron, the computer is doing the same thing and not booting up. Do you think the CPU and the mother board is bad. The power supply is good, the fan in power supply is working. I also used a power supply tester.
Was your old CPU a Celeron as well? Same speed?
You may want use the Clear CMOS jumper to clear the BIOS settings or you can pull out the CMOS battery for a few minutes.
Try reseating the RAM and video card as well. Or try a known good piece of RAM and a good video card. You can disconnect all the drives and remove any unneccessary PCI cards like a modem.

I have a pentium III system with ASUS CULS2 motherboard and it's running on xp pro. I'm wondering how much hard drive capacity it can keep up with. I tried it with up to 230 GB and it worked and in a while i'm going up to 320GB and wonder whether the mother board will support it. And also i'm wondering how to update the BIOS in case if I have to do that. Should I have to backup the old BIOS before it and where can find the new version? I'm really looking for your help.
Should work fine. You'll have to partition the drive.
Hi my motherboard has died and i was wondering if it is possible to transfer my hdd to my new mb thank you

How can I find out what mother board I have?
You can download sisoftsandra from http://www.tweakfiles.com It will identify some motherboards or else the hard way. Look at it and find the manufacturers make and model or the fcc number. The fcc number is generally located right around the dimm slots.
or you can try ctbios, it will read the bios rom's and report what is there. http://www.windrivers.com/identity/mboard/biosid.htm

How can i tell if my motherboard is PCI-e x16. I know its PCI-e but no idea what the x16 is or where i can find out. Its a Gigabyte GA-81915PMD and im looking to buy a geforce 8600 GT video card, will this be compatable?
All help apreciated.
bahh, no english sites with that motherboard for some reason...
Actually, can't find any information about that board at all, you sure you copied it right?
You can always open up the case, and see if there's physically a PCIe x16 slot there or not. Some pics of the PCIex16 and how to differentiate it and the AGPx8 slot here.
my processor is 2400+ but no new board it is showing it 1800+
Try clearing the cmos, your mobo manual will tell you how to do it.
I have a nice Asus P5b-VM here is a pic well actully three pics
I am using, as shown in my specs, an Asus P5Khttp://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/18450-what-mother-board-do-you-have.html
So I just bought a new mother board for my dell studio 1458 laptop and it was a direct replacement except the graphics card is different. I put everything back together, and went to boot. The screen stayed a dark black green flashed a couple times and it beeped at me a few time. When it did come up, the screen was really dark, and it came up as trying to fix windows from not booting. Also during this time, the CPU fan was screaming. What's going on here? Did I miss a step?
Sounds like something might not be seated all the way...worth double checking.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/274456-help-new-mother-board.html
I want to unplug everything from the existing mother board, remove it, and slide in a new mother board, reconnect everything, boot from the Win XP CD, do a repair and take off running without having to re-install all the application programs.
Will this work, or do I have do do a completely new install of XP and reinstall all the applications?

DX48BT2 is the board i'm looking at getting and wonder if i should go with ddr2 or ddr3 Ram how much of a difference is it and is there other types of ram that would to a good job ..wanting it for ultimate gaming
DDR3 comes with high clocks but also with price and high latency. So, high quality DDR2 would(COULD in some occasions) still outdo DDR3. To a point, latencies can determine the performance more than clocks.
hello every one .I am hopeing you might be able to help me .I have a 14 month old computer what decided to stop working what i mean is it just said my mouse and keybord could not be loaded and it seemed to be stuck on a black screen before my windows xp, also i noticed the clock at the bottom was losing time .a few days before hand any way i turned to a shop and they said i needed a new mother board as the old one had lost its drivers and no new ones could be loaded . They have fitted a new mother board but now it seems my instalation discs what the original computer supplier supplied do not work so i cannot reformat my hard drive . please leave an easy to under stand note here if you can help me as i am not a bright person when it comes to this thankyou
You can use your Windows op system to reformat your hard drive, but then you would need to reinstall the operating system and you stated you do not have the disk.
What exactly are you trying to do? Why do you feel you need to reformat the drive?
Is it possible to change mother boards without losing my installation of XP?
Hi, i need to know how much RAM my mother board can take, it has 2 slots.. but i was thinkking i would get 2 x 1 GB stickas of ram.. i was wondering if it would take that much..
Supports up to 2 GB DDR 400/333/266 Modules via (2) 184-pin DIMM slots.Click to expand...
I think thats your mobo there.. just double check by going to the link i gave..
Make sure you have matched pairs of ram to ensure max compatibility..
i am using a intel m/b model d845gl va with the o\s winxp pro service pack 2
can anyone help me with the insruction to bring the bios menu up i am not going to touch it i just would like to no if any technically minded person needed to.tia.col.
Your MoBo uses an amibios, you can enter setup by tapping either Del, F1 or F2 keys on POST or during boot logo.
I was wondering if anyone has any tips on where to get parts to fix/replace a mother board for not too much money? I was informed yesterday that my mother board was shot on my year old gateway laptop. My husband is pretty good with computers and has built our desktops that we've had but he's currently deployed so I have to wait until he returns to fix or attempt to fix my laptop. I live in CT but am more than willing to order parts online. Thank you.
Have a Question... after replacing a motherboard if you forget to put thermo paste on the processor and it over heat will I have to also replace the motherboard and the processor this time.
I am wanting to get a new mother board, to use with the AMD XP 1700 or greater processor. I am wanting to sue RDRam. However all I see is DDRAM boards. Is DD and RD Ram the same thing??? If a mother board supports DDRam will it also support RDRam???
Is there any reomendation for a mother board that will use RDRam and the AMD chip???
Currently, there are no motherboards or chipsets that support RDRAM with AMD processors. It could be a possiblity in the future.
RDRAM and DDR RAM are not at all the same thing. They are two different types of memory. None of the memory types are interchangeable. A particular memory slot can only accept one type of memory. Some motherboards support two different types of memory, but they have separate slots for each type, and you can only use memory sticks of one type. You cannot use both types at one time.
i have a dell dem 8100 and it has a planar mobo it is a 5e692 i need to know if it is an atx or what it is i am going to buy a new case and need to know please help me out i am new to this stuff
It should be an ATX form factor. I have an 8300 and it's a standard ATX mobo. The only thing you need to be careful of is that there isn't anything proprietary like the front panel connections or power supply connections. Sometimes they use things that are not standard.
Here i have an P-III mother board but in that i does not have on board speaker and also if try to connect external speaker there is no connector for connect that ex. speaker. So how to i check the RAM slots in that board is workin or not.
Kindly help me.
This is the firt time I have used a forum so I hope I am doing this correctly. I am still new with computers and I installed my first new motherboard today. Every thing went good but I hooked the on off switch wires incorrectly. I think I got it on two + posts. Needless to say I did let some smoke out of the switch box. I have since corrected this but now the computer will not boot up. Did I fry the new motherboard? Any help I can get would greatly be appriciated.

One problem that has me perplexed . When a customers motherboard goes down , it means reformatting and re-installing XP. Of course all my customer info is gone. If you try to boot up With the new motherboard XP will not load. It launches a critical error and says the boot sector has a virus. I know that XP has this built in to prevent it from being installed on several different computers . This anti-piracy is based upon motherboards bios.
I will not build a computer with pirated software but when the legal owner of the PC and the software needs his computer fixed he should not have to lose all his info. This is when I miss 98 , ME. Under those most computers it was replace motherboard and after several reboots you were all ready to go with all your data intact.
has anybody come up with a work around for this ?
What kind of computer are we talking about? According to MS, if you get an OEM motherboard from the manufacturer, with SLP (System-Locked Preinstall) in the BIOS, that's all you need. They don't mention any re-install. Maybe you can sort it out from This Page Is it possible to do a repair install and save the data?http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/11680/when-mother-board-goes-wxp/

ok i have a gigabyte ga-ma69gm-s2h... and an amd opteron processor the 2.4 model 1216 and it says does not support... does that mean my **** isnt compatible? or can i just go for it neways
there is the compatible CPU list for ur mobo:
and as U can see the only opteron supported is the 1210 not ur 1216
I know I have a PCChips mother board, but I cannot for the life of me find drivers for it. (Probably because I don't know which model I have.) How can I find the model of my motherboard? It doesn't display it anywhere! I don't have the manual for it so I am up a creek with out a paddle!
Here are some specs for my computer:
Built in crap: PCI Sound Pro (Need XP driver), SIS530 video (Need XP driver), and some ??? communications controllers.
Other components: Sony CDRW, FastEthernet card, SCSI scannner (Mustek 600 II CD Need XP driver)
When the computer first starts, hit the pause/break key, it should be down at the bottom with a bunch of numbers...probably something like M748LMRT etc.
I have an old computer im working on. It wont boot up at all, bios will not even load. When i first turn it on it makes a beep like this...
beep, pause, beep beep beep, pause beep beep beep pause, beep.
its 1, 123, 123, 1
what error is this?
my bios sais "SST" on it, im not sure if this is the brand or not.
Ive replaced the memory with good memory, still beeps. Is it possable my memory slots are bad? What else could it be???
thanks for the response!:
Do you know what brand BIOS you have?
Looks like it's probably memory related though.
st question I have an older Dell that has worked well as a second pc in my garage A few years ago I upgraded the p cpu with a p via power leap and their adapter All has been well Has G rdram Win XP home I believe I cooked the mother board a couple of weeks ago by having it contained in a unvented cabinet I found ordered and installed the same mother board Installation went well All was identical Upon boot into the Bios I see it only recognizes the cpu as a mother board swap I reset the Bios and it still only recognized it as a p Could this be because of an out dated bios nd question Upon normal boot up the windows logo would come up but all would freeze mother board swap and go black screen Is it possible I mother board swap will have to reformat and reload the OS because of the duplicate mother board replacement Thanks for your help guys nbsp
You may need to update the BIOS, however before you update you should check the BIOS string to determine if the board you bought is a standard Intel board, or an Intel proprietary Dell board.
If you flash with an incorrect BIOS you've got big problems.
Hi I was wondering is there a mother board that supports 24gb of ddr ram with usb 3.0 and i7 extreme cpu?????? I canít seem to find any can some help me?????
What would you want 24Gb For????????????????????
What Graphics card have you?
i just found out that my mother board cant be upgraded with a processor faster than 2.1 so i want to install a new mother and then get a faster processor. the thing is i have never built a computer and i dont really know what im getting myself into when installing a new mother board. i just want a mb that i can use all my old parts and upgrade my processor.
AMD 2400+ @ 2.0
512 DDR ram pc2100
radeon 9600 vid card
80 gb hard drive
for more info http://www.emachines.com/support/support_info.html?prodName=T2482
i was thinking about getiing a KT600 and then a amd xp 3000+ mb since as far as i can tell it is compatible with all the stuff i have now
Theres a good chance that your Restore discs wont work with the new motherboard and when using XP you usually cant replace a motherboard without doing a clean install of Windows. The old motherboard drivers will keep Windows from loading or make the computer unstable. Replacing a board isnt that hard. Just make notes of where everything goes. The first time I did it I marked every cable with tape. I replaced a board in an eMachine. Physically it worked fine except the front panel connector was proprietary and I couldnt connect it to the new motherboard.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
It has been a few years now since I have built my own system.
I do not think the old days of FDISk exist anymore, I could be wrong.
I am thinking of building another system, this Pentium 4 3.00GHz system is getting a little tired.
I have a hardrive that is filled with a lot of cool stuff. My question is :
If I build a new system Mobo/RAM/Video/ etc. will my hardrive bomb out on me and not work with the new system ?
It has been a while and I am getting a little rusty with the new stuff.
Thank you for your time and any information will be appreciated.
I do a lot of upgrades and new builds. What size is your old HD? Is it SATA? Smallest HD installed here in SA is now 160GB and SATA is the option.
What I do as basic now is install 160 GB system HD, backed up by a 250GB min data drive for Movies/Music/Data etc.
If you are serious about upgrade that's gonna last you another 5 years or so and handle all the desirable stuff that makes a computer worth owning, why not go Core Duo min 2.3 GHz rather than single core?
Put your old HD into semi-retirement and annexe it as another optional "slave" drive for accessing your cool stuff. You'll need to have the installation discs for your OS and programs for the new drive.
One trick I often do is an image backup of the old hard drive and do a restore onto the new drive. There's a lot of ducking and diving to set it up, but the benefits are often a nice way of moving house and keeping the furniture to come with.
I always check to keep the MOBO's old/new chipsets in the family, eg. VIA on old ... VIA on new, so I get minimum upsets on sound/video driver compatibility. New MOBO will come with install disc anyway.
When the system fires up and boots into XP I do a check disk that sorts out any loose ends on the reboot.
I see you are a regular here for problem solving so I am sure you are well capable of climbing in and giving yourself a worthwhile upgrade to drive around with the some of the newer models LOL.
And just for fun you could safely check your old hard drive (switched to master with the new one safely unplugged from power and IDE strap to se if it boots up (ahh... the old faithful as it used to be... yeah )
Rebuilds are fun and very rewarding, like pimping ya ride.

Hi if the given number of your motherboard is correct then it would definitely support 400 mhz frequency of ram just click on the link you sent and check 2nd point in the 6 point description of the specifications of the motherboard. And regarding having sticks of 2 different frequencies there might be a compatibility issue.
I would like to know if there is any motheboards that can support:

The thing is that the computer used to be really really silent, but now the fans are supper loud, any idea why that might be?
dear friends, first of all happy new year to all.
i want to know the specifications and names of different types of slots in mother board, from the beginning to this date.
And what computer course are you doing, that requires this (plus the other similar question posted in the forum)?
Have you tried Google for this information, or do you just want people here to do the reseach for you?
The information you seek can easily be found on Google, for all such matters.
hey there! a few days ago, i was on my computer, when all of a sudden i get a freeze. i reboot. on the reboot, RIGHT away i get a black screen. not even a hardware check, or NETHING, just black( cant even get to bios). ne help at all will be GREATLY apreciated!!
From the information you supplied, most likely you have either a bad main board or a bad power supply. I recommend you test the power supply with a power supply tester. In the absence of a tester, you can try a known-good power supply or take the power supply to a shop that can test it for you.
My mother board is beeping (not always continously) when i re-boot, hold down the reset button, and during normal use.
Put a new fan etc in as i thought that it may be a heat problem, but it hasnt solved the situation.
Can anyone help please.
Describe the beeps... as in low/high tone short/long etc...

Asus Motherboard for Intel P4 Processors Model P4PE-X
thats the mother board im going to buy
and this is the ram im gonna buy
CRUCIAL MICRON 512MB 64x64 PC 3200 DDR RAM
is it ok that i only buy one stick? to me i would think it should be fine, but i read some review from a motherboard that said it is a good motherboard if i just wanted to use 1 stick of ram, didnt really know what that meant, i know back in the day some MB's needed to have atleast 2 sticks of ram, not sure if this is the case now... you guys have all been soo helpful.... just wanted to say thanks and that i appreciate all the feedback... :grinthumb
Nah, you can use 1 stick or the maxium sticks of memory it holds without the performance being affected by how many sticks your using (except if you were to use 2 sticks in Dual Channel mode).
umm i was installing a mother board on a friend's computer adn everything is installed right but when i go to press the button on, it turns on, all the fans spin and everything, then turns right off
how do u fix this?
I have a BIOSTAR mother board with 200MHZ AMD K6 in it now.
What I was wondering is if I could put an AMD K6 450MGZ in there?
Go to their web site with the make and model of the motherboard. All the docs are on their site. It's probably a Socket 7 board so there aren't too many upgrade options for that.
When installing an Ethernet card I shoved the red wire from the video fan into the PCI slot, subsequently, there is an area that looks fried on the board and I can not meter continuity between the posts.
Question is, Can I rebuild the system with getting a new mother board and possibly a video board and reuse the existing hard drive? The old system was A P4, 1.4gz with ME. I was thinking of going to a P4, 2.66GZ and reusing the hard drive etc. If so, what should I look out for at start up and is there any way to determine what else is fried in the system?
Are you saying that this system no longer works? Things like your hard drive, Video card, floppy, Optical drives, maybe CPU and Ram should be ok to use on another motherboard. Bet that was the tightest fitting PCI card you ever installed.
I have an 845 chipset mb.I am a microcontroller developer, use parallel & serial ports.Yday i put a reverse polarity +5v on the parallel port(pin18) other pins were buffered. But since then, monitor wont start. No beep.Fan runs and 5v is present on mb.I removed RAM and checked.Tried with all external devices removed and checked. But no,it wont turn on. Is the video chip(realtek) fried?Do i need to replace mb?Please help!
Okay, so me and my brother are planning on building a computer soon.
For the CPU, we chose to go with an AMD Athlon X2 64 6000+
GPU, and 8800GT, when we can get our hands on one of coarse.
For the cooling unit for the CPU, i had the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm suggested to me.
For the RAM we decided to go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145098.
I am still hacing problems choosing a mother board and PSU, it's been a long time since i've even swapped boards and PSU's out of cases. So i was wondering if anybody could suggest a good mother board for gaming. Preferably a more inexpensive board, but the price doesn't really matter that much. And also if someone could suggest a PSU, or has better suggestions for RAM and a cooling unit, that would help a lot.
First, spend the extra seven dollars and go with this RAM. It is faster than the RAM you picked out, and it is made by Corsair, one of the most trusted makers of memory.
As for a motherboard, you might want to consider this one. SLI-Ready, AM2 socket, DDR2 RAM, gigabit ethernet, relatively high customer reviews, and has then name ASUS, a respected motherboard maker. I narrowed down your choices on NewEgg to these ten, assuming you hope to set up SLI sometime.
I'm not entirely sure that your cooler will be sufficient. The cooler I use for my Athlon 6000+ is this Zalman 9700. It is three times more expensive, not to mention huge, but it does the job.
i have a laptop where the power connector has snapped off and is unrepairable the problem is i am struggling to find system board has any one come across a make called hi-grade model no green553 could possibly be a rebadged one so if any one knows who makes them or deals with them i would love to hear from you

OK, you need to post more info.
Is this a new build that does not post or is it a system that has been running for a while?
Have you added any new hardware and or software to the system?
Have you attempted a bios update?
In addition post your exact system specs.
Does the mother board battery that keeps the time affect the computer operation if it runs down?
I wanted to update my mother board drivers. There seems to be a few that need updating. My question is, that is it kinda tricky to do these updates? Can you mess things up if you don't do it correctly? My mother board is a Gigabyte GA-81945P-G. Is it REALLY necessary to update these drivers, even if my system is running good? Thanks for any ideas on this.
I would only use the CD that came with the motherboard to install the drivers. If everything is running ok I would not upgrade the drivers unnecessarily. This used to be a school of thought, but isn't the case anymore. If it works don't fix it. I never choose to randomly update my graphics or auto drivers any more. As long as they are working I leave them alone. Updating the drivers can sometimes result in negative results and cause you to roll back the driver to the previous one.
If the motherboard won't boot how can i find out the name and type of mother board it is?
This is my first time changing a mother board, is it very hard? How much time does it take you guys to change a mother board in general?
Hi im new here, im about to give up on my computer. It always freezes and its very unstable, opening software like photoshop would be just useless.
My friend in a local computer store told me its not my XP thats defective but my mother board. I have to change it to an ASUS instead of the cheaper brand I got to ensure stability. Any advice on this?
What browser are you using? IE or firefox?http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/9332/xp-changing-my-mother-board/

Welcome to TechSpot
This won't work, the new nVidia mobo uses completely different drivers from the previous Via one. These Via-drivers are currently part of XP, and they dont work with your new mobo.
You have 2 options:
1) Buy another harddisk, make it the Master and change the old disk to Slave. Install XP from scratch with all new mobo-drivers, install other programs. Copy personal data from old HD to new HD. Format old HD and use as storage. Works guaranteed and is the cleanest solution.
2) Put the old mobo back in, make backups of personal data, then go into Device Manager, and uninstall all motherboard-specific drivers and hardware.
Shut down XP. Swap mobos again. Boot on the new mobo. XP will install default mobo-drivers. Then install the CD that came with the new mobo.
This MIGHT work, but not necessarily. NOT advisable as there will be old drivers and mess floating around.
I am getting ready to swap a motherboard into an old case, someone told me once that sometimes the motherboard doesn't fit into the case correctly, is this true? Before I do anything I need to know this so it doesn't haunt me later on.
give the information and specs on the board and the case. what you said was pretty useless.
I inadvertantly fried my motherboard by plugging a usb device into a usb port upside down. (the little white piece had fallen out of the usb port which allows usb cables to plugged in only one way). My question is - if a motherboard shorts out does that mean that my processor, sound card, etc are also toast? I will replace just the motherboard if that is all that is bad, but if I have to replace the processor, sound card, etc then I might as well buy a new pc. Is there any way to test the processors and sound cards to see if they still work? Thanks for your help in advance.
I just got this mb used, and i have no info on it
Im trying to find out what it is so i can get a manual for it.
Heres all the info i have.
Its got onboard everything.
It has a slot 1 and a socket 370
it has both at and atx power plugs.
3 sdram slots
its got a gold heatsink on the board that says Xcel 2000.
it says it has AMI bios.
it has a sticker on one of the chips that says AGP 8m, Ultra DMA 66, and PC99 connector.
it has the at style keyboard plug, and at the top right-hand corner, it says M748LMRT REV:1.3C
Any info on this board would be greatly appreciated.
i can,t find out what my mother board make is.there's no markings on it!.

is there a site that i can log on to that mite be able to help?
whats do you think?
my brother installed a new mother board and when you turn on the computer it cuts off...it will not allow you to load on the programs
I have a intel mother board and was upgrading the memory with qty 2/256 pc 133 chips but it will not even go to the bios screen. The chips work in 2 of my other computers. I was wondering if anyone knows what the deal is with that. The board type is D815eea with a PIII 800mhz chip. I currently have 3 128 in computer now.
well it looks like my nforce 4 chip broke somehow, and now i need a new mother board. It needs to be a 939 socket, and i do prefer the nforce 4 chip set, but if you know of a better one please let me know.
I just recently, got this board but, I didn't get the drivers disk that came with it. Intel D848PMB Socket 478. I can only seem too find more of these boards for sale but, not the drivers I need for Windows 7
