Preferred Solution: Computer freezing, replaced motherboard still freezing. Help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Replaced my motherboard, reinstalled Windows 7 Pro SP1, freezing happens

If it were me, I'd start by NOT overclocking anything, if you have, and see how it runs. If the computer is simply locking up without any indication of what's causing it, I'd reinstall windows with only your 500GB drive plugged in. Load the necessary drivers to get online to run your windows updates. Before installing anything else, including your AV software, I'd try to run your windows updates. Of course without AV you'll want to make sure you're not browsing the web for anything other than updating. If you're still locking up, then you may need to check the drivers you've got installed. If you can boot to safe mode with networking, perhaps download the newest drivers for your hardware and see what happens.

I ran malware bytes, no viruses. Viruses are out of the picture, this exact problem was had like a few weeks ago, and Bestbuy took it in, and the ram apparently was broken, so they fixed it and gave me it back. Now the same problem is occuring. after I hit desktop, a few minutes later, my PC freezes. Like sound just keeps going, like in music, but the video freezes, mouse freezes, and any or all action ceases. I have to hit boot button on my case. Please help me. It wasn't doing this earlier, but now it started up badly.

A:PC was freezing, replaced RAM, fixed, now freezing again..

Is it still under warranty? If so I would take it back to Best Buy, Where you had it fixed before.

A:Newly built computer random freezing and freezing on starting windows

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Thanks,

A:Random Computer Freezing - Need to hard restart after freezing No BSOD

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

A:Computer Freezing; Slowing Down. But mostly freezing. I have my HiJackThis! Log File.

I don't see anything in your log or your description of your problem to come to the conclusion that your problem is malware related. When there is malware present there will always be other internet related symptoms like popups or a browser hijack etc...

I will advise you to uninstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as the version you have is very old and no longer supported. It in now called Windows Defender.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Go through this now and see if it helps:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

Defrag your HD:

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.

Go here for info on msconfig:

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

You can look up the startups at the following links to help determine what is needed and what is not:

Hello.

Personally, I think you should click on the "report" link of your post and ask the moderator to move your thread to the malware removal forum, to be certain that the malware is gone.

It is possible that the programs you listed have missed a nasty piece of malware.

A:Solved: Computer Freezing/freezing/graphical glitchs

If you're getting graphical 'glitches' while in bios, that's usually a good sign that your graphics card is having issues - however, I have seen this happen with faulty ram. I'd recommend reseating the cards (ensure your computer is off and unplugged whilst doing so) and see if that helps

so I got a computer that keeps freezing up on me. sometimes it runs for hours before hanging, and sometimes it hangs every 5-10 minutes.

I ran memtest and it seemed to freeze up during memtest. the little blinking icon was normal, but the test wasnt running and the commands didnt work.

does this mean that my memory sticks are bad?

I replaced the mother board on my white box. I replaced a Intel d850m with a new d850emv board. When I startup the PC, the computer cycles through the Intel Pentium screen shot to No Input and then to my selection of either startup in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last know good config, etc. However still cannot boot. I went into BIOS, but cannot adjust the setting (It is greyed out) from what it is says is a 2.0 Gig processor to the acutal processor of 1.7 Ghz.

A:Replaced Motherboard - Computer cycles but cannot boot

Clear CMOS and see if you can get into BIOS and make the necessary changes.

Anytime you change motherboard, unless it's replaced by an identical one, it is always necessary to do a clean install of Windows XP.

I built a computer this past week. I am using a Logitech K270 and Performance Mouse MX with one unifying receiver. My problem is that whenever I plug the receiver into a USB port on the back of my motherboard the mouse cursor becomes jittery. Sometimes it will stop while I am using it, and then I need to lift the mouse to make it move again. However, if I plug the receiver into one of the USB ports on my case the mouse works perfectly. Do you have any suggestions about how to make the mouse work on the rear USB ports? Thanks.

Good batteries in the mouse and keyboard? Setpoint will tell you if they need replacing, if you have installed it. I have a M570 wireless Trackball that uses the Unifying receiver. My receiver is plugged into the motherboard USB port on the back of my tower, no problems. Any other wireless devices that may be interfering with the signal?

Hi all Have been having some frustrating issues with my system recently It all started when my system started freezing with strange patterns showing up on the monitor I thought it must have been my video card and took it back to the computer shop to test it They agreed the video card was faulty and sent it off for warranty In the mean time I purchased a new low-end card and the system worked fine for about a week I freezing freezing, pattern with System blue-screening, strange is restarting, then started to get the same issues again I returned the system again and was told there was nothing wrong with this card They spun some crap about the card not being powerful enough to run photoshop which is where I spend most of my time and convinced me to upgrade to a higher-end card which I did Unfortunately this didn t fix the problem and I continued to have problems I returned the system yet again for a week or so They tested it with their HD and fresh install of vista and System is freezing, restarting, blue-screening, freezing with strange pattern said they didnt have any problems I picked the system up and used it without problems for around a week or so when the problems started to occur yet again At the moment the system is freezing freezing with a strange pattern on System is freezing, restarting, blue-screening, freezing with strange pattern the screen see attached jpgs looping audio restarting blue-screening ecache sys IRQL not less or equal to etc It freezes during vista loading but sometimes makes it to the main OS environment I ve tried reinstalling vista on a different drive and get exactly the same problems It freezes and restarts during vista setup so System is freezing, restarting, blue-screening, freezing with strange pattern I can t actually do a complete reinstall So here s what I ve tried so far to recap Replaced video card times I have sticks of gb RAM I ve tried running these individually in all slots Have tried running system with bare minimum Tried reinstalling Vista If anyone could suggest anything else to try I would be most appreciative If I ve left out any info please let me know and I ll be more than happy to post it Thanks Diggyd nbsp

I have a usb soundcard which worked perfectly a while ago, but since some time this strange bug is causing trouble. Sound suddenly stops, and the VU meter in control panel stays at the same position - as if the sampling point of audio is stuck. Problem is
temporarily solved by disabling then re-enabling the soundcard.
I tried looking in the logbooks for relating events but I can't find any event which may cause this, as there is nothing happening at the same time as an audio freeze - or there must be a big delay of writing events to logbook.
I don't know what kind of data you need to help me solve this, but I'm happy to supply it!

Thanks in advance :)

Have you tried scanning with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or Spybot Search & Destroy?

Can you try running MBAM in Safe Mode?

You can get to safe mode via hitting F8 just after the BIOS Post screen/Dell Splash Logo.

I don't think this is a blue screen of death problem, but hey it sucks to have a broken computer. Defragment the computer. load any CDs that came with your hardware. Did u update everything? (drivers and anything else that can be updated, just for updating sake). And just to be thorough, did u install any other software before it started freezing? Make sure your hard drive is not completely full. Test the memory by running Windows Memory Diagnostic just by typing it into search. I've read where it was recommended to turn off any IM service as it lowers security and slows down the system. As well, make sure you don't have a lot of things running at once, and make sure you don't have too many items running at startup. Windows defender > tools > startup programs (do this before installing new anti-virus protection, as that turns defender off. If u need to, temporarily turn defender back on just to list the startup programs), and see if too many programs are loading early and if you even want them to load at all. too many currently running and startup programs can slow down your system.

Check if you have a virus. If you don't have an anti-virus, recommend Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. Check and make sure device manager does not list any non-updated drivers. If your computer cannot handle some aspects of vista like its theme, high display settings, and windows features that take up a lot of resources, turn as much as you can off so that they do not slow your computer. Your computer isn't getting too hot is it? I wouldn't let my computer get hotter than 60C~135F, but some computers cannot handle even those temperatures.

If you are willing to invest in more, buy some more ram. I would try having a total of 4GBs. There may be more that you can buy, like a new harddrive (Yours is not bad, actually), but before you know it you've bought a new system. you have a 300 watt system, so likely it cannot handle very much power drawing hardware. try saving power by enabling balanced in the power options, but only if you feel your system isn't getting enough power. However 300 watts should be enough.

This only applies to the USB ports on the rear of my computer as far as I'm aware.

When you plug USB devices into the computer windows sometimes completely freezes and then the screen goes black and the computer restarts itself and makes 2 long beeping noises.

Either this or sometimes blue screens.

Why?!

Is it possible that it's a software problem within windows or is it hardware?

I used to have XP installed on this same machine and there was absolutely no problems like this......

A:Windows 7 freezing/blues screens and motherboard beeps with USB devices?

Did you run the Window 7 Upgrade Advisor before you went from XP to Windows 7?

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Most Vista PC's can be upgraded easily to Windows 7. This is not so with XP. Video and memory are details you must pay attention to. For Windows 7 2GB system memory minimum and a Window 7 certified video card is needed. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will tell you what you need. Did you perform a clean Windows 7 install on this PC?

Ok my friend s computer is anything reset Freezing on when getting freezing when doing then startup and worse.. exhibiting the symptoms as I ve described in the title Basically it s freezing Freezing when doing anything and then freezing on startup when reset getting worse.. whenever you seem to be doing anything thats a little bit more system intensive than just sitting idle Opening webpages viewing video in full screen etc You restart it and it s like frozen with just the blue desktop and an egg timer on the screen Freezing when doing anything and then freezing on startup when reset getting worse.. I think this is obviously a heat issue because if you leave it a while after it s frozen and then start it up it s back to normal Thing is I ve only jsut been able to start taking a look at it and he s been using it all the while and I think it s at a point now where some damage has been done as he says it s basically unusable now after telling him to leave it well alone until I can look at it CPU is overheating Graphics wouldn t cause this much of a hoo haa would it He does have a spare card that I can fit to see if it helps I m getting some compressed air in the post soon so I ll give everything a blast seemed to help before but do you think it s worth taking the heatsink and fan off and reapplying thermal paste etc Am I totally off base here - is it possibly nothing to do with heat Thanks in advance guys nbsp

A:Freezing when doing anything and then freezing on startup when reset getting worse..

It does sound like a heat issue and a malfunctioning/overheating graphics card can certainly cause these issues.

Are the issues still occuring?

About 3 weeks ago, everything was working fine. Then all of a sudden IE 11 started to freeze and would not function properly. I reset IE 11, thinking that might clear the problem but it did not. I had not installed any new hardware or software, but ran virus scans using Bitdefender Total Security 2015 as well as Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. I would appreciate help on getting my IE 11 and Windows 7 to function without issues. Thanks.

I could use some creative customer service here. My M3800 shipped with the known power-on motherboard defect. It was replaced at no charge, which was very nice. However, the replacement (2nd motherboard!) is now having the same intermittent dead / no power problem.
To get the computer running, I have to remove the case (12 screws) and un-plug the internal battery to 're-set' the electrical fault. After I put it back together, the computer starts normally. This is not very convenient, especially when meeting with new clients.
The problem is that I am being told I am outside the 3-month repair warranty. I think this stinks! It's a known issue and I would like someone at Dell to step up make my expensive computer work normally all of he time.
Yes, I have run every diagnostic known to man and the internet.

During the last few days..maybe a little longer, my computer has been sluggish or just plain slow! I'm having a problem with programs and IE or Firefox freezing as well. AVG was run in safe mode and there wasn't much there. Plus it didn't help the problem any. I recently reformatted and reinstalled XP on this system due to a bad virus. None of the anti-virus programs I ran afterward found any problems. Now tho, I can't run TrendMicro Housecall online. It gets to the point of saying it's opening the program and it just runs and runs with no progress. CWShredder found nothing during it's scan. As far as I can guess, it's either a virus somewhere that I havent found or some program hogging serious resources. I'd appreciate any help!

Lets take a look Welcome to BleepingComputer The process of cleaning your computer may require temporarily disabliling some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. So I've recently bought a gaming package which had pre picked pc products to be built for me as I do not know much about computers This came with Windows now and on 10 boot Freezing up. freezing even windows pre installed After having the pc for about a week it asked me Windows 10 Freezing and now even freezing on boot up. if i wanted to upgrade to windows for free which i proceeded to do with no issues and it ran fine However I went to shut my pc down and it only gave me the option to shut down and update which was fine by me It updated and the next two days my pc froze while i was on it forcing me to turn it off via the power But after it did that it would just turn on normally Now it has gotten to the stage where it freezes whenever it tries to start up windows and won't even boot up properly It gets past the asus screen and begins loading windows and freezes The longer i leave my computer the longer it gives me before it freezes once i turn it on Every second boot failure it attempts to repair itself but even freezes when doing that I know its the issue with windows as i can enter the bios settings when the asus logo comes up and I can edit the computer settings from there just not the operating system I've tried to boot via the installation disk but it even freezes then which i think it may be because I have windows and its a windows disk not sure I've gotten to the stage in the repair where it has given me troubleshoot options but i need to be fast to click the right options I think i saw an option to revert to an older version but instead I clicked the attempt system repair or something Which then told me it could take up to an hour to fix and froze while attempting the diagnostic I've googled it many times and it seems people do have the same issue as me after the update but they can actually get further into the start up I'm not great with computer stuff but I do know the minimum I'm not sure about what specs of my computer you need to know but I do still have the receipt of the purchase so if you have any queries about what pieces I have let me know and I will share Please help it is frustrating as hell not being able to do anything Thanks

hey montana,

hmmmm....check out www.majorgeeks.com and download memtest86 and put the program in a floppy. afterwards restart your computer, go into the bios, and change the first boot device to floppy. save settings and exit the bios afterwards.

then the computer should boot to memtest86 and begin testing out your ram for errors. make sure memtest goes about a full 10passes minimum and see if it detects any errors in your ram, good luck.

Just recently upgraded to an Abit NF7-S2 and an Athlon XP 2600+ Barton.

Ever since I got it up and running, it's been freezing like a SOB. Just at random times it will freeze. Under no load at all.

I had a suspicion that it was the video card, because it always froze playing games, but now it freezes whenever it wants.

My computer won't even turn itself off and give me that "Recovered from a serious error" or whatever, at next restart.

Ideas?

Have you reinstalled windows and got all the right drivers in place, along with the windows updates?

Is it any different in safe-mode?

Hey, this computer freezes all the time probably 2 or 3 times a day. I will just be on the internet and it will freeze or just be typing in word and it will freeze. Everything stops moving and it has to be shut down using the power button.
Its an HP. P3 800 mhz, 192 mb ram, running windows xp home, 4mb onboard video memory. If i had to guess i would assume that it is the 4mb video memory that is causing the problem but i dunno. I dont want to buy a video card if thats not the problem. And if it is how big should I buy 16 or 32 mb? I do not really do anything except get online use instant messenger and use microsoft word. Thanks for the help.

My laptop keeps freezing unexpectedly. I've been experiencing this problem for the past 2-3 days. If I am connected for a long on the internet, it just freezes. No interaction at all.

This usually happens when:
I play music, online programming (via codepen) and have multiple windows open (happened once)
OR
When I play online flash games, listen to music (happened once or twice)

I have recently scanned my computer with ESET online scanner (before the freezing events). I have not disabled my AV program whenever I run ESET (AVG 2014 - Internet Security). Could this be the problem?

There is no other problems besides the freezing.

A:Computer Keeps Freezing

Yes running two anti virus programs at once . Could very well be your problem. Your best bet would be to uninstall one of them.

Ok, my computer is fairly new, about 2 1/2 weeks old. And past week or so, I been experiencing random and sudden freezing. The first time it happened was when I was playing BF2. Another time when it happened was when I was browsing the web and listen to iTunes. So far, my computer froze about 6 times. I know it froze because there is a repeating sound of either my game or the songs. And also the Num Lock light won't turn off or on and the mouse pointer is frozen. Hodling CTRL+ALT+Delete does not respond.

Just now, while browsing this forum using the key "Page Down", it froze. It's like any sudden movement will freeze my computer.

My computer is HP m8430f. Specs are

Quad 6600
4MB Ram
Windows Vista SP1 64 bits

are you up to date with current drivers and updates? and what anti-virus program(s) do you have because they might not be compatible. I had a similar problem not too long ago.

I have a cpu I built a couple years ago for gaming....i used it about a month with no problems then it started freezing up while in windows...mouse would freeze every couple minutes....then it would just freeze for a couple minutes at a time and work for only a few seconds at a time...when i would reboot it would not even load up at all......well i was so aggitated i put the cpu up and havent used it...i have another ( the one im on now ) but i want to get it fixed so i can start using it now....any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Computer freezing

Since you built it you'll have the manual.

Tear it down completely, reset the Bios fully, start from scratch cleaning re-applying paste to the cpu/heatsink, building with minimal hardware (floppy, cd/dvd, hard drive, vid card IF necessary).

Get that working and the rest should be easy.

Hi I am new to this site but it seems promising and I am hoping someone can assist me.
My computer keeps freezing. I have run all of the virus programs, adware programs and spybot. I have looked at the svchost.exe files and found nothing in caps. I have reviewed the cpu usuage and it is 2 to 4 percent. I have defraged the hard drive, and I am attaching the Hijacking log.
Can someone please tell me what is the problem here. I thought I have eliminated a virus but someone told me the svchost.exe virus is not seen by the usual programs.
HELP!!!
Thanks

check your ram with memtest 86+ booted from a floppy/CD for at least 7 passes. Check your PSU for proper voltages with a multimeter. Check your temps. Check your drivers and BIOS versions.

In the last few days my PC has decided to freeze at various times for no particular reason. It happens in the middle of whatever I'm doing such as playing games, surfing, writing or reading email. I try to bring up Task Manager to see what is running at the time, but it won't appear and nothing responds. I have to unplug and do a power shutdown, then reboot. Numerous malware/virus/spy scans have produced nothing of concern. I even did an interior clean-out, thinking overheating might be the problem. I hadn't installed any new hardware or software proceeding this problem.
I am using WinXP Professional SP 3

A:computer keeps freezing

Hello saltydogs,

When first reading this, I would have thought overheating or some type of hardware conflict but since you said you have neither installed any new software or hardware, maybe it's not. How old is your system by the way and is a prebuilt computer or did you build it yourself? You also mentioned that you ran several anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware scans; care to say which ones you ran and provide any logs that you have?

Regards,
swagger

Every now and then my computer just freezes. I can open the start menu with the keyboard but can't use arrows to go up and down.
I'm running on Windows XP.
Normally this never happens. Alot of the time it also freezes when I skip a song on WMP using the keyboard.
I also tried to run a keygen once I did nothing happened and it dissapeared. Might have something to do with it?
Any tips what I can do to fix this?
My computer has Intel Pentium D Processor 920 with 2 x 2.8 Ghz, 1024MB RAM, 250GB Hardrive so shouldn't have problems multi tasking but lately it does.

Thanks

Hey Guys!

Recently purchased a Dell Studio 540, I'm running Vista Home Premium 64bit.

My problem.
All was good until i tried to install my wireless adapter (D-Link). System runs ok but then freezes up about 5mins after initial start up. I can take the d-Link adapter out and i don't have this problem so I was thinking the D-link was causing all the problems.
I went and purchased an Edimax EW-7728ln wireless PCI Adapter. Installed but I'm still having the same problem, freezes up after initial start up

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hmmm...

If it just happened for one, I would say have you installed the latest driver - and does it support 64-bit. Edimax does, and the latest driver is August 2009.

Edimax USA

Do you have another network PCI adapter installed at the same time? If so, for the heck of it, pull that card. If it's on the mobo, just disable it in the bios.

Try that first and let me know.

Take care!

hi everyone
my computer has really been giving me some problems lately.
it used to be that every so often when running a movie file or webcam or anything of that sort, my computer would freeze completely and i'd have to restart. now its gotten past that stage, and will often freeze even if im not doing anything.
does anyone have any ideas?
i have 512 mb of ram, so I dont know if that could be the problem.
i have an nvdia geforce 4 mx... maybe that?
or my power supply? a 400 watt stock one.
definitely isn't a software problem either.
thanks for the help

If you've got serious problems with your computer (i.e ram failure, CPU failure etc) It will emit a pattern of beeps not unlike morse code on startup. The most common being no keyboard!
Can't remember what that one means, you'll have to look it up. Sorry I'm not much more help.

Hello Kis and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. For non-malware related performance issues I would suggest posting in the Windows XP Home and Professional forum and let the techs there have a look at the system. They can analyze what's running and make any recommendations for problematic applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found.Cheers.OT

Lately about the past month now my computer has been randomly freezing more so when I am away from my computer for a while and it goes in hibernation mode or sleep/screen saver mode.

One day I could be sleeping - when I wake up my computer is frozen. Another day my computer could be on in the morning working fine, I go to work for 11 hours come back home go on my computer and it's frozen.

I've also noticed my computer has been a little on the spike laggy side when playing LoL(League of Legends) - that's more of an issue on the server's side I believe.

I just need the steps in order to fix the issue - thanks for any info.

Most logical suspects in these cases are
1) overheating - blow out case, make sure all fans are running, try running with the side off
2) failing memory - run memtest86
3) failing PSU
4) blown or leaking capacitors on motherboard.

I've been having an issue where my computer freezes for about 30 seconds to a minute. During the freeze I am able to move the mouse, but everything else becomes unresponsive. This has happened at the windows user log in screen, browsing the internet using chrome and on the desktop before opening any applications. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit. Any help is much appreciated.

Hello guys, I was hoping you could help me. So here's the problem: My computer keeps randomly freezing. Well, maybe not so random. Whenever I play a video game, for example, it freezes after a while. Or whenever I watch some video. Whenever I work on it for too long.
So, do you have any idea what might cause such freezes and what I might do to solve the problem?
I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service pack 3; AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 1.67GHz, 512MB of RAM and nVidia GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8X.

If you need any other info, let me know.

I realise the computer is ancient, yes, but I was still hoping you could help me.

A:Computer keeps freezing

Hi Jedi Girl,

One thing you can do is to perform a "Check Disk Repair" on your computer and see if that alleviates your computer issue. Here is the link to the Check Disk Repair instructions: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

Another thing you can do is to check your computer hard-drive for any errors. Check out this link: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Also, get a compress-air can, open up your computer and blow the dust out of your system. Check the CPU temps in the BIOS and if you are unsure if temps are in the safe zone for the CPU, then feel free to post them here.

Im currently running windows xp professional with SP2. My processor is an AMD athlon xp 1900+ 1.60GHz with 512 RAM. I will turn my computer on in the morning, look up a few things then ill have class. I will return in like 2 hours or sooner and it has froze. Everything completely quit working, including the time on the task bar. After I restart the computer, it will work fine because I will be doing something on it right up until I turn it off. But it seems once I leave it be, it will just freeze up. I have nothing running in the background but my AIM, when it freezes. I have looked up other forums and read those. but I figured I will post my problem and get first hand help. I was just wondering what the problem could be.

Thanks

A:My computer keeps freezing!!!

well for one thing it could be your your screensaver or it could be your power management. If it is your screensaver just change it. If its not, what you do is go to the start menu, click on settings and then control panel.Go to performance and maintenance and then scroll down and click power options.Under turn off monitor, turn off hard disks, system stand by and system hibernates, select never for all of them. That might do the trick.

Hey everyone I'm having this weird problem with my Acer Aspire Windows GB DDR GB HDD yada yada Anyway it keeps freezing keeps computer up My freezing at seemingly random times for upwards of minutes at a time It happens the most frequently when I view a youtube video but it does happen often while I'm doing other things like just surfing the net or word processing even If I leave it for awhile it unfreezes eventually and I can continue what I was doing prior to that One of the most annoying My computer keeps freezing up parts of the problem is that it doesn't leave any traces in the event viewer even if I'm impatient and I hold the power button and hard shutdown Please help I would at least expect to see a fatal error recovery screen from Windows My computer keeps freezing up haha but nothing It froze twice while I was writing this up What I've done so far -HDD Scan with WDDiag HDTune and I even tried with Seatools and they all came back perfectly normal not even over temp warnings -Memtest left running overnight and did several passes with no errors -Booted into safe-mode with networking it still froze after minutes of use -Used Norton Ghost to clone my drive to a brand new GB hdd and the problem persisted even on the new HDD -Virus Malware Rootkit scans with hijackthis farbar service scanner mbam SBSD roguekiller adwcleaner rkill mse and KAS Rescue disk and they all came back clean -Reinstalled Windows and all of the updates -I suspected flash player plugin to be the problem so I uninstalled the plugin and didn't watch any flash content for that period but the problem persisted again after that I also did the same with the java plugin as well but with the same results -Made sure all of my drivers were up-to-date from the manufacturers website not using windows update in some cases I rolled back drivers to try older ones problem still persists

A:My computer keeps freezing up

You've done a lot of the right things, but I'm wondering about temperatures.  I use SpeedFan to check them, but there're others as well.  If the cores get over 50 degrees C, that could be a problem.  Based on the size of your hard drive, I'm guessing your computer is a few years old.  When's the last time you blew compressed gas through the air intake vents to blow the accumulated dust out?  If over 6 months, that's something you really need to do.  Dust builds up inside these things and consequently causes overheating.  That causes things to really slow down, can cause crashes, and worst case can damage circuits.

Good luck.

Hi, I have an annoying little (or maybe big, its hard to tell with PC stuff) problem. Every so often my system will just freeze on me (and when it does the HDD light is off constantly). There seems to be nothing I can do to fix the problem other than hit the reset button. There is no set pattern to the problem as sometimes I will be not even using my computer and I will come back to it and its frozen up. I tried a stress test last night using BurnIn Test which showed everything working just fine. I've used Tuneup Utilities to fix my registry and check the HDD for errors but the problem persists.

My system is GA G33M-DS2R with Intel Core 2 duo (E4500) 2.20GHz and 4GB RAM, 64 bit Windows 7. Any ideas? Anyone?

PS. I tried to attach the latest .dmp file but the file size was too big, any help?

How did you check for viruses? Try the online scan below. Also scan for spyware using Spybot and Ad-aware.

Hi there,

My computer keeps freezing at frequent occasions throughout the day. Sometimes it happens two or three times, other days as many as ten. I thought that this might have been a virus or perhaps some software that I had installed, but after checking my comp with various virus checking software (Ad-aware, CWShredder, Spybot and online virus checkers), I'm thinking it may be something else. Does anyone have any reason why this might be happening, and if there's any way it can be fixed? Thanks to anyone that helps.

A:Computer keeps freezing

well, have you run any online checks?
http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

also how many programs do you have in startup - have a look at msconfig (every thing but win2k)
start> run > msconfig
startup tab
have a look here

also you may want to look at the performance of the PC when running - let us know the windows version you have.

possibly running low on resources

otherwise as you suspect spyware - so you seem to have done most things - I would post a hijackthis log and let an expert here decode just in case
HIJACK THIS:

Download and copy hijackthis to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.

Note the Spyware tools websites are very often under attack and so I have provided more than 1 location to download from:

http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/downloads.html
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/
http://www.sherrylynn.us/privacypolicy

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”.
Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad.
Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING wait advice from one of the many security experts in this forum.
I currently do not have the skill/competence to advise and poor advice can be far more damaging to your PC with this software.

Please have patience and wait for an expert to provide further detailed advice

Hello all,

First off, I'm not sure if this is the write place to post this.

Secondly, I'm having issues with my computer. I recently reinstalled windows XP on my computer because it was giving me a rough time with freezing and other things. Yet, after I have put a fresh version of XP on, my computer still freezes.

Could it be a file on the computer that needs to be updated? Or is it more of a hardware issue?

I need help with this.

Thanks A Lot,
Andrew.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Your video card may be the culprit. Do you have another you can use to see if the issue is still present?

Is the system overclocked?

You may also want to test you memory. Try Windows Memory Diagnostic Test

hi guys i already have account here but i forgot my account name anyway i have a dell computer intel celeron processor with ram and MMz running windows xp home edition version For about a week now my computer has been freezing I cant move mouse keyboard not responding only thing I can do is hold Computer Freezing the power button either when I am just browsing the internet or when im watching a movie or playing a game starcraft it seems to be pretty random because its happened a few minutes after startup and a few hours after startup Its never done Computer Freezing this before and I'm wondering if its Computer Freezing a hardware problem or a software problem I've used AVG and ad-aware to check for spyware and viruses but they found nothing my comp works perfectly other than the fact that it might freeze randomly after a hour or something I have no graphics card if that is relevant but I doubt starcraft requires a graphics card and I often watch videos on media player classic where it has frozen often Well I guess it cant be random usually after it freezes once if I try to run my comp again it will freeze a lot sooner a few minutes than if I give it a break for a few hours and come back then it will take a hour or something Also sometimes windows wont startup at all and it will stay at the dell screen when you first turn on the comp here is my hijackthis log Logfile of HijackThis v Scan saved at PM on Platform Windows XP SP WinNT MSIE Internet Explorer v SP Running processes C WINDOWS System smss exeC WINDOWS system winlogon exeC WINDOWS system services exeC WINDOWS system lsass exeC WINDOWS system svchost exeC WINDOWS System svchost exeC WINDOWS system spoolsv exeC WINDOWS Nhksrv exeC Program Files Common Files Microsoft Shared VS Debug mdm exeC WINDOWS System svchost exeC Program Files Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter Wireless Network Monitor WLService exeC Program Files Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter Wireless Network Monitor WUSB GC exeC WINDOWS Explorer EXEC WINDOWS DELLMMKB EXEC Program Files ANI ANIWZCS Service WZCSLDR exeC Program Files D-Tools daemon exeC WINDOWS system ctfmon exeC Program Files Logitech SetPoint SetPoint exeC Program Files Common Files Logitech KHAL KHALMNPR EXEC WINDOWS System svchost exeC Program Files Mozilla Firefox firefox exeC Program Files WinRAR WinRAR exeC Program Files HijackThis exeR - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Page URL http www dellnet comR - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Start Page http www google ca R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Page URL http home netscape comR - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Search URL http home netscape com home winsearch htmlR - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Search Bar http home netscape com home winsearch htmlR - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Search Page http home netscape com home winsearch htmlR - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Start Page http home netscape comR - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer SearchURL Default http keyword netscape com keyword sO - HKLM Run DellTouch C WINDOWS DELLMMKB EXEO - HKLM Run QuickTime Task quot C Program Files QuickTime qttask exe quot -atboottimeO - HKLM Run Logitech Hardware Abstraction Layer KHALMNPR EXEO - HKLM Run ANIWZCS Service C Program Files ANI ANIWZCS Service WZCSLDR exeO - HKLM Run DAEMON Tools- quot C Program Files D-Tools daemon exe quot -lang O - HKCU Run Le Petit Robert Hyperappel C Program Files Le Robert Le Petit Robert prhyper exeO - HKCU Run ctfmon exe C WINDOWS system ctfmon exeO - Global Startup Logitech SetPoint lnk C Program Files Logitech SetPoint SetPoint exeO - Extra context menu item E amp xport to Microsoft Excel - res C PROGRA MICROS Office EXCEL EXE O - Extra context menu item Open with WordPerfect - C Program Files WordPerfect Office X Programs WPLauncher htaO - Extra button no name - CD F -D E - d - FE- C F AFE - no file O - Extra button Messenger... Hi,? Re-name HijackThis.exe to kitty.exe by doing the following:- Navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.exe- Right-click onto HijackThis.exe and select "Rename"- Type kitty.exe and hit Enter.? Now, double-click onto kitty.exe (which is still HijackThis) and post back with the new HijackThis log.

Good Morning Bleeping Computer Community,

I've been having problems with my computer freezing at the most inoportune times. For some reason, when i get up from my computer and leave it alone for a few minutes (eg, i get up to use the restroom, go get food, or leave it on overnight to download a game) or when i restart my pc from stand by mode it simply freezes. I've checked for viruses using AVAST (don't have any), have used CCleaner to repair the registry, and allow spyware terminator to run daily to check for spyware, yet the computer continues to freeze. I'm not sure if it may be softare or hardware issue. would someone be able to help me fix this issue.

Thanks in Advance
