64 bits -- does it matter?

Q: 64 bits -- does it matter?

Hi. I posted a long rambling thing a little while ago because I'm looking at a new laptop. Let me cut out all that stuff and get to one point I'm really curious about -- does 64 bits matter?

I know some people say this is just around the corner, but is it a revolution or just hype?

Obviously I am also curious whether there is a point in waiting to buy a new computer until Intel goes 64 bit -- but the computer I have now is ancient and can't run anything anymore, so I probably don't have that luxury.

Still, I wonder what 64 bits actually means. It's my feeling that 32 bits is doing a pretty decent job and going from 8 --> 16 and 16 --> 32 were the real revolutions. But maybe someone has a different take.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Tech Support Guy Nation,

So I have an issue with getting a laptop hooked onto the router signal. The router is a brand spankin new Linksys EA4500 and the laptop is an IBM which is running Win XP (not sure of SP version as it is a customer's comp. at a hotel I run). Anyway, the error message I am encountering is:

The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters

At first I thought is was my router password since it contained a $ symbol so I changed it to only letters and numbers but still didn't work. I have never encountered this error message on any laptops and no other rooms have been affected. Thank you as always for the the knowledge...

A:Solved: Error Message:"The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending.

You are using WPA or WPA2 encryption and the laptop--because of the lack of at least service pack 2, incorrect wireless driver, or old wireless adapter--does not support WPA(2).

Use WintoBootic to put the iso on the flash drive, it works perfectly everytime.

Where are you downloading the iso from, I would download it again and check the size when you`re done.

Well, having the "config.sys" file did not help. The system still have the same issues as posted earlier. Removing EMET 3.5 didn't help either...

Hello Dare2winnn,

It's recommended to use a 64-bit AV program on a 64-bit OS for full protection. Some 32-bit AV programs will not install on a 64-bit OS.

I just use the included Windows Defender.

Hope this helps,

The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

This is the error message I keep receiving whilst trying to connect a windows xp laptop onto a netgear router. Using Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG network connection.

I already have a macbook which connects fine as do my friends laptops when they come over. The laptop in question has worked before on this router with no issues, however, this is no more!!!

I think I might need to amend some setting to choose WPA but I can't figure out how to do it!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You have to pick WPA in the router, then remove the stored wireless network profile and search for the network.

Please forgive me if this had been posted before. I searched here and didn't learn enough in the previous posts. So here is my inquiry.

Been using Vista Home Premium for a while with no problem. However, I now have a copy of retail Ultimate 64 bits. I read that there are many benefits besides being able to see all 4Gig of rams with 64 bits. As the process only be done by clean installation, I would like to know how, if I can at all, to back up all the stuffs that I've been using so I can "restore" after I switch to 64 bit instead of redo everything. I'll be greatly appreciate if you can explain to me step by step.

My US Robotic dial up modem only has 32 bits driver; please suggest a good one that work with 64 bits.

Please let me know anything significant I need to know before I switch?

Thank you!

A:Need help in 32 bits to 64 bits switching...

Hi Bruce2,

Welcome to the forum.

Since you are switching from 32 bit to 64 bit Vista, the safest route is to just backup any files you do not want to lose to a CD/DVD. You can just transfer them back when done installing the 64 bit. There is just to much of a difference to do a complete backup and restore between the two bit version with your programs and installers.

If you would like to make it even easier, have all of your programs and 64 bit drivers installation files on DVD as well.

Now i have instaled the 64 bits version, and it works great, but i had a very hard time finding the drivers...i can't find o godd part of them...if you can help me in any way, thanks very much...p.s. it can't fiid the 'base sistem device'...you know better then me,wish you the best...

A:4gb ram only with 64 bits os???

Read this.
64bit - x64 - What is 64 bit? Beginners’ guide
From the article:
"32-bit systems have a basic problem. Every part of a 32-bit microprocessor relies on the 32-bit technology. That is, not only the quantity of simultaneously managed information equals to 32 bits, but the system also handles the memory in 32-bit units (this operation is called memory addressing). If you install each and every update patch on your Windows XP operating system, it will almost take 256 MB of the memory. If you also want to use professionally set up firewall and anti-virus programs, that memory capacity will be too little, and your system will slow down considerably. The conclusion: convenient and safe solution of an average task requires a memory capacity of 512 MB today. In the case of gamers even 1 GB of memory is not considered to be too much. With the release of Windows Vista, this memory requirement will double because the operating system, which includes a great number of new features, requires 512 MB memory by default. If we install a firewall and an anti-virus program, even that will not suffice, which means that providing a safe and convenient environment for doing some ordinary work with the computer will require 1 GB of memory, and more than that (about 1.5-2 GB) for gamers. And with that, we have come to big issue: 32-bit processors cannot address more than 4 GB of memory due to the above-mentioned, somewhat more than 4 billion available combinations. The average requirements of today are close to that limit. Therefore we can state that the 32-bit system has reached its limits from a technical point of view."
If You have an integrated VGA - card , that will decrease the available amount of system RAM. So it is around 3,2 - 3,5 G at the end of the day, best case ssenario.

A:AOL bits

You will have to remove AOL through Add/remove programs and then I would suggest you run a program to clean the registry. I like Ccleaner for that. It will remove any orphaned registry entries. When you run Ccleaner, go to the Issues tab and scan for issues. Click fix selected issues and create the backup when prompted.

A:W10 32 bits to 64 bits

All you have to do is clean install the same version and edition of Windows 10 64-bit. Skip entering a product key when asked. It will activate itself based on the digital entitlement now stored on Microsoft activation servers.

Version = Home, Pro, Education, Enterprise, etc.
Edition = "regular" Windows 10, "N" edition, Single Language edition.

If you don't have your Windows 8 product key written down, I would run showkey plus from this forum first to retrieve it and write it down - just in case.

A:what bits? 32/64/128/256?

I may be wrong, but this is my take on the bit system:

A bit is one of the smallest measures of file size in the computer industry. Most internet connections are measured in kilobit- 1,000 bits. Such as 28.8k. You should notice that you don't actually download at 28.8 kilobytes, as downloaders measure, but rather 3.6 kilobytes, which is the equivalent of 28.8 kilbits. A byte is 8 bits, and 28.8 divided by 8 is 3.6. To measure a bit, it is one normal character, i.e. not ASCII, be it a number, letter, sign, etc. A byte is an 8 letter word.
But, in relation to computer processors, I think the default '32-bit' architecture partains to how much information is calculated on every clock cycle, either 32 or 64 bits at once.* An operating system also runs with this architecture, which is why you hear about the 64-bit version of Windows XP. 64-bit architecture is backwards compatible with 32-bit, but 32 bit cannot run any 64-bit optimized architecture.
As for the 128-bit GPUs, I think you may be out of context, but I really can't explain that.

I think I butchered that. I never really learned about the bit architecture system, and these are all just logical assumptions. I would gladly enjoy someone who would explain it to me better/correctly

*I'm really not sure about that.

Will the general feel of my Windows 7 Ultimate be faster in 64 bits?
It was often said that this goes for a limited quantity of programs only.

Are there any serious pitfalls?
Like (groups of) software that will stop working?

I have a PC, a Netbook and a Notebook on a mixed LAN/WLAN network.
I am very happy with my setup, and I tweaked my PC's Core Duo to almost 4 GHz so it's running pretty fast, but some more speed can't hurt...

Hello Michel, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please fill in and update your system specs (click on link). What type of hardware (ex: CPU supports 64-bit) will play a big part in whether your system will run 64-bit Windows 7 or not. Most do these days, but we must be sure.

For now, you will have to do a clean reinstall to go from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows 7.

Hope this helps for now,

I think WINRE_DRV and System_DRV are 2 hidden partitions required on GPT disks that are used with Windows. They were likely placed there during the Windows installation by default.

In that situation, you don't want C to be active.

As far as I know, you can convert a GPT disk to MBR, but I think you have to remove all partitions first.

Not sure about the above as I don't use GPT disks.

Because they are in AMD environment (Athlon 64 3200+, 2GHz, Asus A8V-Deluxe s.939), my timings are just 3-3-3-8. Also its 2T(instead of 1T), 333MHz(instead of 400). They told my that I cannot do anything to change these numbers, because I have 4 sticks in amd platform.

So, I m thinking of buy 2 new kingstons of 1GB each(2X1GB), replacing the existings 2X512. After that I ll have totally 3 GBs of ram (2X512, 2X1024) Of course I ll put them in the right position so that I ll have dual channel mode(1st module:512, 2nd:1024, 3rd:512, 4rth:1024).

The queries are:
Is it a good idea to make such a movement?
Will timings be better? Will I have T1 and 400MHz?
How much improvement shall I see? 20%? 30%? 50%?

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Download this: http://downloads.subratam.org/FINDnFIX.exe
Extract it (it should autoextract to C:\FindnFix when you double click it)

Go to the C:\FindnFix folder and doubleclick on !LOG!.BAT and let it run. It will generate a log.txt file. Copy and paste log.txt back here in your next reply.

Hi i'm clearly new here and was hopping to get some thoughts.I was told that a strong enough magnet would disrupt my wireless cam and was wondering if that was true?

A:Help on this matter

Hello and welcome to TSG.
Well im no expert on magnets or magnetism, but as far as i am aware anything to do with magnets (either natural, manufactured or electromagnetic), and anything electrical should always be avoided as much as possible. Even such minor things as "coiling up" excess cables can effectively turn themselves into electromagnets and thus disrupt electrical fields. So i would say yes it is possible. Whether the magnetic field disrupts the actual signal or the cam itself, i cannot say.

Possibly misleading title, sorry.
Performed clean install of XP with sp1a, done this several times in the past with no problems.
This time two folders are left in the root directory which I can't get rid of. They are both the long mix of letters and numbers as the title, with subfolders sp2 / update and with one file in each, update.exe both the same size.
I cannot delete them, or change their attributes in safe mode or in the command prompt when I boot from the CD - access is denied.
I have not installed SP2 at the point where they appear
Can anyone please tell me where they are from and how I get rid of them.
Really appreciate any help
Thanks

A:Need a few bits of advice as i'm in a bit of a jam

Why would you buy an OS software and not save the ISO or disk for repairs or reinstall? You own this for life, it should be safeguarded like any other valuable.

Go back to the download site and download another ISO, burn it to DVD (available 3 for $2 at Walgreens) or write to flash stick using UltraISO trial version.

Then clean reinstall following these tips to get a purrfect reinstall: re-install windows 7

I came across this article

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg487503

Operating System Support. The PAE kernel is not enabled by default for systems that can support more than 4 GB of RAM.
To boot the system and utilize PAE memory, the /PAE switch must be added to the corresponding entry in the Boot.ini file. If a problem should arise, Safe Mode may be used, which causes the system to boot using the normal kernel (support for only 4 GB of RAM) even if the /PAE switch is part of the Boot.ini file.

are there any advantages in running 32 bits WinXP with 4GB of RAM ?

I don't know if I missed the sub forum, but I was wondering:
Why are bits used for file transferring, and speed, while bytes are used for file size and storage ?
For example download speed 100Mbps (100 Mega bits per second).
File size 100MB (100 Megabyte).

A:windows 64 bits

howdy Leduc,

If you right click the "my computer" Icon and click properties it will tell you right in that window what version you are using..

As for which one is better? That depends. If you are using a 64 bit cpu like an AMD 64 then the 64 it will work. If not then it will not work. Another easy way is to know what type of cpu you have. If it is not a 64 bit cu then you cannot have a 64 bit os..

What type of cpu do you have?

Hi and welcome

this crash was caused by tcpip.sys.

I would run a system file check to erify and repair your system files to do that
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow
I would also check for updatednetwork driver.

Hi,

I do lots of diagrams, for my own use, and i want to make parts
of them 'clickable', to give a more detailed diagram.

Bringing up another window would be fine.

What would be the easiest way to do this?
I had a look at 'Word' but it seemed a bit difficult to me.

Is there a way to make a bit of a Bitmap clickable ?
That would suit me, cos most of my diagrams are bitmaps.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this easily ... ?

Hello:

We plan to buy several laptops and desktop preloaded with XP and most of them will have at least 8 GB of memory.

From what I have read XP 32 bits cannot access more than 4 GB. Is this true? What would happen if I install 8 GB on an XP 32 bits machine?

Should we go ahead with 32 bits or 64 bits?

I've heard that the 64 bits laptop drivers are kinda expensive.

I'm not sure if all of our existing applications (i.e. antivirus) installed on our existing xp 32 bits machines could be installed on a 64 bits machine with no problems.

Or would we need to purchase the 64 bit versions?

Thanks and help is greatly appreciated.

A:Windows XP 32 or 64 bits?

it is true 32 bit will only see about 3 gigs, however, companies are not beyond selling more than what is needed for the sake of a sale. It is done all the time.

drivers are free. Just go the specific laptops manufacturers website and see if they have 64 bit drivers, if they do, all you have to do is download and install - once you install a 64 bit os. However if they don't then there is a good chance your computer would not support 64 bit os for the specific operating system.

64 is the norm now. generally speaking 64 bit computers will support either 32 or 64 bit drivers and software.

one other thing to consider, if you want to upgrade from 32 to 64 bit, you will have to do a complete install of the os. You cannot upgrade.

You might try volunteering at a local PC repair shop, your school's IT services, etc. I got my first experience (with hardware) by getting a job in the microcomputer lab at the college I was attending. You could try getting a paid job but might have better luck volunteering at first.

Not really too sure where to go with this one...not serious, but i am seeing Bits errors in the event vwr on one of my win 7 pro machines...event ID 16398

A new BITS job could not be created. The current job count for the user RILOT\dcataldi (60) is equal to or greater than the job limit (60) specified through group policy.  To correct the problem, complete or cancel the BITS jobs that haven't made progress
by looking at the error, and restart the BITS service. If this error recurs, contact your system administrator and increate the per-user and per-computer Group Policy job limits. i do not have that parameter configured in my domain, so the default should be
at 60 ?? can it be increased per pc ??

I read a post here a few days ago and quot unnecessary quot services were being discussed Someone Nickster I think mentioned that he Factoid BITS had BITS turned off manual because you didn't need it to do a Windows Update rather than an quot automatic quot update At least this is what I understood after reading the post BITS Factoid Anyways BITS Factoid today I turned BITS to manual and then when to do a quot manual quot Windows Update and update flat REFUSED to run So I went to Services and turned it on and Update STILL refused to run even though BITS was Started Only after I set the properties of BITS to quot Auto quot would Windows Update do it's thing So it appears to me that merely being quot on quot is not enough Windows Update insists on it being set to quot Automatic quot in order for it to run Posting this in case it is true and it might be interesting to someone else or if I am wrong in some way I might get set straight This is starting to seem a bit unreasonable to me the preconditions MS has for the updates and so I am looking for quick and easy alternatives to Win Update such as the thread on Ryan's VM pack

BITS needs to be running for both manually updating Windows and Automaitic Updates. By default, it is set to manual and will start automatically when required. I set it to disabled as I am a 'control freak' then everytime I visit Microsoft Updates on the second Tuesday of every month, I set it to Automatic and start it...aswell as Automatic Update service.

So...by all means set it to disabled, but you will then need to manually re-enable it :)

I have a philips 107S (107S2) on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 and I only have the option of 4 bits of color. I'm really out of ideas to try to fix this. someone please help me.

A:i only have 4 bits of color

Have you got proper nVidia Detonator drivers installed? When you mean "the option of 4 bits color", are you referring to the "colour quality" in the settings tab of "display properties"?

The topic title and description say it all. I was referred to an ms update, clicked on appropriate one, was referred to one for 64 bits, when I have 32 bits.

Also, at times, my pc seems to "read" as Vista to third parties.

What could be causing this?

(I already uploaded the current security patches, will not make any further changes myself.)

Hi,

I know it's a random question but my XP system has undergone a bit of beating from viruses recently and it's taken my ability to update on microsoft away...

Where could I find BITS, just literally the bare naked version? If not, is there a useful piece of software that could help put some of my windows files back...(my Paint and Character Map has also gone, randomly)?

Thanks

A:Where can I find BITS 1.0, just on its own?

Might be a long shot, but maybe an OEM installation of Win2000.

Sounds like you've encountered a lot of system file damage from the infection(s), I would recommend a repair installation which should correct any corrupt or missing Windows files. This would not affect your personal files, but you will need an OEM installation CD-ROM.

Hey guys. I was working on a computer.. had to format and re-install Windows XP. I got most Windows Updates installed, but there are still a handful that won't install. I found out that it was probably because the BITS service wasn't running. I went to turn it on, and it wasn't even there. I tried to run sfc /scannow. It ran, but when it was finished, it just disappeared and didn't produce a log. Is there another way to install BITS?

I red that 32bit/64bit etc refers to the number of bits manipulated in a single operation, which is usually the size of a register. So this is the same as 1 word? For example a 64 bit Intel CPU has 64 bit words?

A:Question about CPU bits

Technically I think you'll find that "word size" is applicable to 64-bit and 32-bit in Intel CPU's. Hardware Word size is equivalent to the Register (i.e. the largest or natural word size which is 64-bit in the 64-bit extension of the x86-64 ISA)

Hi,

I need your advices about wheter I should install Seven ultimate 32 or 64 bits.
My configuration is a bit oldish and I am not going to upgrade it.
- Gigabyte GA-K8NS
- Sempron64 3100+
- 3x1GB of DDR PC3200
Most of the application I use are so far only available in 32 bits.
All my hardware have 64 bits driver.
Got only 3GB of RAM so it is fully addressed by Seven 32

Do I get any better performance by having Seven 64
and use mostly 32 bit applications ?

A:Windows seven 32 or 64 bits

If your computer is old and most of the programs would not run with 64 bit, I would stay with 32. The performace increase would be marginal, at best.

I have a laptop with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium and a big problem. Some pens are detected but not installed. It gives an error saying that installation failed. Other pens work nice and clean. Tested the pens that don't work on another computer (win xp) and they're working fine. Tested on another usb port and nothing.
Tried to update windows and still the problem persists. I tried to update the driver but it says the driver is the most recent. Should I make an repair? I really need some help here please.

A:Pen problems with Win 7 x64 bits

You're probably having issues with drivers. You're going to need to list the exact models of each of these products in order to get any real support. In the mean time make sure that you have the latest Windows 7 drivers for each device. Go to their manufacturer website and find the support/downloads section.

Hello there I hope I am posting in the right place First off the spec of my laptop AMD Athlon tm II P Dual-Core Processor GHz GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon HD I run Windows -bit The problem is that I cant seem to run games without getting lag For instance Dragon Age- the only requirement that my laptop might not meet is the processor dual core minimum however I can even top that I can make graphics the best quality or make it the worst it lags almost the same Oblivion that thing requires a Pentium yet I still get lag again the same situation where I can put the best or the worst graphics out? lag is there what, way no matter no Constant on The lag that I am talking about is not terrible for instance the games run at around or more FPS judging by the eye and every once in a while drops to around It is not much but definitely makes the playing experience much less enjoyable I do turn off all of the background programs I even use this little program game booster The hard drive is not crammed to the top I even separated the drive to a few parts for games and for Windows So yea any tips Or am i doomed to play in this ridiculous situation where no matter what Constant lag no matter what, is there no way out? graphic settings you put on you still get lag PS When games are turned on the ventilator blows out quite hot air nbsp

A:Constant lag no matter what, is there no way out?

How big is the hard drive? How big are the partitions? When you partition a hard drive, you waste a lot of space and slow down its data access. Something you never want to do with a laptop

I think this looks like a driver issue. If you know how to run the driver verifier function, try that. If you've never run it before, be careful... you can get stuck in a BSOD/reboot loop. Here is a tutorial for running driver verifier.

If the driver verifier function makes you too nervous, you could manually search for updated drivers for all of your hardware by going to the manufacturers' websites, one by one, and getting the latest drivers.

I have GigaByte 8I955 Royal which specs 1.8 volt for the ram.

When I went to Newegg.com's memory configuration tool, it comes back with all different voltage rams for me range from 1.8 1.9 to 2.1 volt.

Can I use higher volt ram in my motherboard?

Your help is appreciated!

[email protected]

A:Ram Volt Does it matter

You need to check QVL of compatible ram for your motherboard.
1.8v is the motherboard default ram voltage, check in bios to see if you have the option to change the ram voltage.
If you don't have the correct voltage for the ram you will run into booting problems

A:size does matter

gettingthere said:

abd ub jpeg my photo Click to expand...

pardon?

to reduce the size of an image you just need an image editor of some description, the professional app of choice is of course photoshop, which has an extremely useful 'save for web' function that performs this task.

The more widely available (ie cheaper) app is paintshop pro, which you can d/l a demo from jasc.com.

I wouldn't be surprised however, if you existing kodak easyshare had some facility to reduce the (physical) size of an image, is there an option on one of the menus or toolbars to reduce the pixel size and/or the dpi resolution? You may find your photo is currently in several megapixels; the default maximum for the camera that took the photo. If it's just to be used for browsing onscreen, eg on a webpage or similar, then it only needs to be 72pdi which would save a massive amount of file space.

Compaq CQ50-103nr Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.

You can see the Wireless User Guide here. My understanding is that the wireless light is orange when the wireless adapter is disabled and blue when enabled. If I press the wireless button, it turns blue for about a half second and back to orange.

I have loaded the drivers furnished by Compaq and I have no exclamation points in Device Manager.

My guess is the wireless adapter is kaput; but, before I spend any money, I would like to know what others here might know about this that I might not.

The power button for this laptop is at center top of the keyboard and the wireless button is just a half-inch to the right of it. It has the wireless symbol on it, lit in orange and it finds no network although I do have a working wireless router on which another laptop here is currently working.

A:Wireless LAN indicates it's off no matter what

Unfortunately, a non-working wireless adapter and a wireless light which is permanently amber is a widespread fault with HP & Compaq laptops (Google Search brings up loads of forum posts to prove how widespread it is). My grandaughter's packed up on her Compaq last year and it defied all attempts by me to fix it so I bought her a plug-in USB wireless adapter which solved the problem.

In my daughter's case, the built-in wireless adapter wasn't even listed in Device Manager, which means it isn't even being detected, which usually means the device has failed. Your Device Manager is probably not listing it either (hence no errors are shown).

If the laptop is still under warranty, HP will repair it free of charge (or at least that is what I read on the various forums last year).

Id use 124GB SSD to load my OS, Video Editing Programs and other main programs that you have on. Keep all the data such as music, pictures, videos on a normal HDD.

My big question is will I get faster video rendering if the program is on the OS drive?Click to expand...

You mean if the program is on the SSD with the OS? Id guess so since it will write the data faster, but I am not expert and on top of that I don't have a SSD. But also a GOOD CPU will play a good roll in that.

i think you are going to have to take the side off and check for any loose connections. make sure if theres a video card that its seated properly .
if you have no success, unplug it and pop the battery out for at least 20 minutes to reset the cmos.
you might need to tweak the bios setup options afterwards.

goodluck and post back

I know that with a cassette tape, when you go down to the fourth or fifth generation, you can really hear the difference. The sound gets quite muffulled.

But what about CD-Rs?

Can I go down four or five generations and still maintain the same sound quality. I know there are rumours that digital CD-Rs make exact copies, but I thought I'd ask the tech gang to make sure.

Thanks,

My acer Aspire 5738Z has a web cam called a crystal eye. when I downloaded windows 8 saw that it had a simple to use camera app. No matter how I try I cannot get it to work. I have tried every driver I can find even the ones on the Acer support page. I still get the response "camera not found" In fact this is a true statement because I
can't find where the camera is stored on my system. Any advice welcome. I never tried the camera until I changed to windows 8 so I am not sure if it ever worked.

A:not sure this is a windows 8 matter!!

i have an HP Pavilion dv Notebook PC uses Windows Vista and i ve been having fits over my Windows Movie Maker acting up i ve made lots of videos over the past few years and have had no problems Recently though when i try making a video of any kind wmv format it seems like WMM is lagging and then when i try to play and watch what i ve put together edited it will play a second or two then glitch and will even skip whole clips during the glitch freeze and it does this through the whole timeline i dont know if it will run like that if matter glitching WMM I no :( what do! i publish it but i cant get any decent editing done because i cant really tell how well it syncs or looks because of all the glitching this has gone on for several weeks now and is absolutelly maddening i ve tried everything from un-installing unnecessary programs deleting cookies etc change setting etc nothing works and i cant find anything on any site about this issue or how to slove it if i could afford a decent video editing software id use it instead and not have to worry about this any help would be GREATLY appreciated thanks nbsp

A:WMM glitching no matter what I do! :(

Are you using the WMM that comes with Vista or is this the Windows Live Essentials WMM? If not the latter, I think you are eligible for it with Vista and you might try that version. Otherwise there is Pinnacle VideoSpin which is free and you might find does as much as you need without having to pay for a more capable editor.

Having seen the required specs for half life 2, I've decided to upgrade my current ram and purchase an AMD 2500 processor - my current system is a s follows, AMD 1700, 512 DDR ram (generic), softmodded radeon 9500 128 np, W2000k and a 40 gig HD, not top notch kit but enough to play any current game at optimal configuration.
My question is this, my current 2100, 266mhz generic ddr ram works pretty much adequatly and has given me no cause for complaint but on checking prices, find that higher specc'd ram is'nt as expensive as I'd assumed - would purchasing 333mhz or 400mhz ram offer significant increase in performance or are these specs only relevant to hard core modders?

A:Does make matter?

333Mhz to 400Mhz, not much.

So, my Nvidia card using coolbits overclocking tweak shows me this information on my graphic card

Why is it the OS thinks the AGP is at 2X ???

anyone see same type of thing
what do you make of it
is there some sort of fix for this.

I have the same thing using my
MSI board using GF6600 card
ASUS board using Ti4200 card

A:anyone get this or what it means, or any way to fix it for that matter ??

I have only heard of 8x card going down 4x when the AGP slot does not support it. The only thing I think of to suggest is you check you motherboards manual.

How do I get rid of LOL? My spyware/virusware is not picking it up, and it's wreaking havoc with my computer!

A:LOL no laughing matter!

Hi,

Describe your issue a bit and do the following.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds file to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

I don't know your MB but if you got a set of 32 bit drivers as well as the 64 bit drivers, give the 32 bit drivers a spin. I think I read that someone found that effective .

I would appreciate if someone would explain the significance of DVD regions. I rented an old movie from my local library. When I tried to play it on my Windows 7 machine, there was a message that the DVD was purchased in region 1, my computer DVD drive was set for region 2, and I needed to change the region. Since there is a limited number of region changes that can be made, I decided not to make the change and did not watch the movie.

Would someone please explain the technical background as to why regions matter? And why did Microsoft decide to limit the number of region changes for Windows 7?

A:DVD regions - why do they matter?

1.  Just read what Wikipedia has to say about region codes yourself.

2.  If you use VLC Media Player it will play any region code DVD without a fuss.

A:Cant get picture out no matter what... tried everything

Seeing that this is your first post, I will say "welcome to TechSpot"!

Next, I know this has you a bit miffed, I've been down your road of computer frustration at one time or another, but your going to have to give us a little bit more information.

How about a small list of all your components?
What type of case your trying to install of this in?
What is your power supply, and what is it's rating?
What Operating System are you using here?

Maybe a slight "step by step" of what you did prior to uninstalling the I.D.E. DVD drive, through that, to installing the SATA DVD drive. If your suspicions are true, and you think that you missed something minor, doing a small 'step by step" thing sometimes takes care of these sort of thing.

So please get back to us, we are here to help!

Here is the problem I just recently was given a laptop. I was told that it was hooked up to a tv with HDMI but, there was sound on the laptop. I am running Windows 7 Premium HP Pavilion g7-1318dx Notebook PC
Serial Number: 6CF2085XDS Product Number: A7A43UAR . I have no sound with just notebook speakers. I have went to the HP driver download site and tried to download the audio drivers. I receive a warning " The Hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. Install will now abort." There are 3 Audio downloads on the Hp website none work. The speaker Icon down by the clock with a red X on it when you do a mouse roll over it says no speakers or headphones are plugged in. I have tried headphones still no sound. I have also tried to the windows trouble shooter and it says it detects no problems. Play back devices is only showing Digital Audio (HDMI) High definition Audio device not plugged in. Recording says there are no audio devises are installed in. I have tried everything any help would be appreciated.

A:No sound no matter what

I think that you need an extra lead because HDMI gives picture only. The lead I have has a mini stereo jackplug at one end which goes into the computer's headphones socket and two phono plugs (white and yellow) at the other to plug into the TV's audio input at the back. You should then be able to work out how to set up the sound via Control Panel.
