I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Someone had my computer before me, and although it isn't that important it aggravates me that his name still shows up sometimes like when things are listed under Documents and Settings/Billy/etc.
Is there any way to change this to my own name? When u try to just rename the folder it doesn't let you.

Since my dad got this computer for me years ago, his name has always been registered or whatever you call it that makes his name appear as the author of html and java files... and also be the name on the "C:\Documents and Settings\His Name Here\Desktop...."

... when I write a java class in eclipse, or html, it automatically says his name as the author at the top, and I have to change it. Any way I can change it more permanently? I dont think I can change the user folder under his name, because everything is installed there... but thats not really important, its this other annoying thing.

My new laptop came preinstalled with Windows XP. When it booted up, it asked me who would be using this computer, saying something about how it would create new profiles for them. I whimsically decided to enter "THE KING" (to be the admin) and "peasant" (for other users).

Apparently that was a bad idea because now it says the computer is registered to THE KING (for example, when you click My Computer, then properties). Is there any way to change it?

When I setup XP pro for our users, I only put the username on the first box on the initial setup. Unfortunately, this information was used by the machine for the "Registered To:" part of the system properties. When I click in the dialog box I notice there is a space for a company name also.

Does anyone know where I can edit this so I can put the correct information? So far we only have three machines on XP, but I would not want o wait for it to grow before I start correcting this.

I really don't suggest doing this unless you know what you are doing and make the appropriate backups, but I had to do it one time when my new PC was registered as "Registered User"...drove me nuts.... I searched the registry for the entry(ies) and edited it to what I wanted it to read. But these days, with the way one has to register/license/activate XP, I'm not sure what the implications are....

Ok, I've read the threads on how to change who my puter is registered to by going into regedit, blah blah blah. Now, how do I change the "Documents and Settings" folder name when I search for the old registered name?

That may be confusing, here's an example:

-My puter was registered to "X and Y"
-I changed registered user to "X" by going into regedit
-When I search for "X and Y" on my puter, the "Documents and Settings folder" comes up and still shows "X and Y" as its name and I cannot change the name of that folder. How do I change the name of this folder?

A:registered user change

Log on to the computer as an administrator.
Create a new folder.
Open the current "Documents and Settings" folder.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
Under Advanced settings click Show hidden files and folders, and then click to clear the Hide file extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files check boxes.
Click OK.
Click and drag to copy all the folders to the new folder, except for the currently logged on users folder.
In Control Panel, double-click System, and then click the User Profiles tab.
Copy the current user's profile to the new folder.
Click OK, close Control Panel, and then log off and log on to the computer as an administrator again.
In Registry Editor, click Find on the Edit menu.
Type documents and settings, and then click Find.
Replace the value data or rename the value or registry key to the new path for each and every registry key and value that contains the original path.

NOTE: You must complete this change for every instance in the registry or your computer may not start. It is imperative that you update all registry keys and values with the new path.

Restart the computer.
You can now safely remove the original "Documents and Settings" folder.

To be fair, It would probably be easier just to create a new user, and move any files and folders that you want to the new folder, and then delete the old user!

Hi all.

I have just bought my wife a new laptop and she wants to give her old, serviceable laptop to our son.

Rather than show her name on logon or add another user, l want to change the registered owner in system settings, add my son as an administrator user and delete my wife as a user.

A:Change The Registered Name In System Properties?

Well, you can change your name in the registry but mucking around in there is not something I think anyone highly recommends unless you know what you are doing. So doing so is at your own risk and I would make a registry backup before making any changes in there.Go to Start menu and select Run and type regeditFind and go to below key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version Change your name in following subkey :Registered Owner

Welcome to the site.
I just want to make sure I know where we are and where we need to end up.
When Insider started last spring, you signed up as [email protected] But that wasn't the Microsoft Account you have now? Have you abandoned the account? Can you still sign in to the Insider Dashboard on the web with that email address?
So now when you log on to your computer you are using [email protected] for the Microsoft Account? Has it been that way long? And the PC is still receiving Insider Builds? Is [email protected] also registered for Insider?
Please correct any of that if it is mistaken information...
On the original account, is there any data or App ownerships that you can't part with?
Likewise on the new account, anything that must be kept?

Is there a way to easily change the "registered name" of a computer? Also trying to apply this to system folders also.

A:Registered computer name

There are two ways to do this in Windows XP. One involves editing the registry, the other is a format and reinstall of the operating system itsself. I strongly advise against editing your registry as I've found that it usually causes more problems than it fixes, and in extreme cases it can and will cause your computer to crash and become inoperable. That said I am providing a link that will explain in detail how to accomplish this task. But I want you to read it through entirely before proceeding and consider it carefully before you do it. I hope it helps.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance. If this resolves the issue please mark this thread solved by using the thread tools feature located at the top of this thread.

I am trying to figure out how to rename who the computer is registered without having to format the harddrive and reinstalling windows xp. I can't seem to find the correct file in regedit to do so. Can anyone help please! Thanks

A:Renaming who the computer is registered to. Without formatting the hard drive.

You can change the name of the registered owner by going through this procedure:"

First, press START, then type or click on RUN and enter.

So far so good. Now type REGEDIT in the RUN box. then pess the Home key or you can choose My Computer from the REGEDIT menu by clicking on it with your mouse.

Now press F3 and type RegOwner in the search box. Wait for the search to find the key. This can take a while depending on the size of the registry and or speed of the system. When it finally comes up, right click and select MODIFY.
Now you can type in the Changes in Owner information. You can also change Company name from the section located above RegOwner if that is needed.
Now, with any luck at all, you can close regedit and reboot, after which, voila, you should find the changes you have made when you click on System in the Control panel.

"This document could not be registered. it will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document."

Any Ideas?

Ran a virus check and nothing found.

A:Doc could not be registered?????

I had this problem and solved it by making a change to the registry - please see below.

*** PLEASE NOTE: I take no responsibility for any problems you may experience as a result of amending your registry in this way. Your own registry may differ from mine depending on your configuration. You should ALWAYS, ALWAYS back up your registry before making any changes***

This is what I did:

Delete the entire key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data

The problem (in my case) was being caused by a corruption in this key. After it is deleted, it will be recreated automatically the next time you open Word, and the problem should no longer occur.

Good luck!!

'Tis easy, my friend!Get the program New Owner. Allows you to change the owner's name, etc.EDIT: I had a link to the download on this post, but then I realized they were going to chage you good money for the download, so I removed the link. I am now searching for a better link. I will put the new link in this post as soon as I locate it.ANOTHER EDIT: Ok, here is a link to the download. I cannot say how safe it is as I am not familiar with the website. The download link is about 1/2 way down the page.Click the red x ----> X <----

I have a dell pc running windows xp and I needed to know how to remove my sister's registered name from it. It is a flat desktop and I am cleaning it out for my grandson and I want it to have his name without wiping xp out completely because I , nor does she have the boot cd.
Thanks to anyone who can assist me.

A:Removing Registered Name

You can use User Accounts via Control Panel to add a new account, and remove the old one. I would create the new account first then log into that one, and use it to remove the unwanted account.

Also i have one stick of Kingston PC3200 512MB in my system and i want to put another stick in. does brand matter at all?

A:Registered and Unbuffered RAM?

You will want to get another stick of that same stuff then. RAM nowadays is pretty sensitive to other RAM modules, your best bet is to get another Kingston thats the same, or sell that 512 you have and buy 1 gig of something.

My OS is Windows 7. Whenever I go to my download page in Firefox and I try to open the containing folder to where the download is I get an error message that tells me the interface is not registered. However I don't think the problem is with Firefox. What should I do?

Solved! A solution to this problem was found later in this thread, here.

A:Interface not registered

This applies to outlook, but might be relevant. Cant do any harm, anyway, as the message almost always applies to failed registration of OLE facilities or dot-net

"To resolve this problem, register the Ole32.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK."
You might need to run as administrator in Win 7

Dllname is not a .dll or .ocx file. For example, typing regsvr32 wjview.exe generates this error message.

Hi, welcome to TSG. According to AOL's FAQ, you cannot transfer the domain name.

AOL will introduce the ability to transfer domains to other registrars for domain transfer fee in the future.Click to expand...

AOL also doesn't provide any web hosting at this time, so it looks like you're unable to have a website with that domain name. Your expiration date is 10/20/07, so you may be able to transfer the domain after that. Sorry I don't have better news.

I don't get it. You did a clean install and as soon as you attempt to Personalize you get Class Not Registered? Or you used the system for some time and then the error manifested. Which is it?

Also it makes life a lot easier if you fill out the specs sheet. I know I'm not going to post asking you "do you have this?" or "do you have that?" It wastes too much time.

Trying to get into LDM to assign a drive letter, I get a window saying

<Logical Disk Manager (LDM) is not registered.
LDM supports Windows 2000 or later.
Check the operating system version on the computer named .....>

which seems to suggest that my computer OS is older than it actually is??

I have hunted through the forums here but can't find anything that has helped.
I have also tried various internet searches and verified that several .dlls are present and correct in System32.

Worryingly, I get the same message when booting in safe mode !

This is not a facility I use very often, and the last time was probably six months ago or more, but I do need it now. And I don't like the thought that an integral part of the OS is not working.
Any suggestions?

I'm currently running a Compaq Presario V4000 (Old, I know) and suddenly it's sound has dissappeared. I found a forum, saying 'use cmd...' but when I try to use the cmd and type in '..', it comes up with 'Class Not Registered.' I'm not a techno nerd or anything, so I can't really describe what my computer is running or anything. But there's no sound, at all, when I go into the sound and audio box in control panels, the sound playback, and sound recording are grayed out, and when I try and fix it, it comes up with the message 'Class Not Registered'. Help would be very appreciated.

So I burned a new copy of XP Pro (using Nlite) and installed it on a machine. That particular cd usually skips a couple files during installation, but in the end it always runs xp without issues.
Well, this time it skipped more than usual... It still booted into Windows, but without a device manager or sound utility of any kind. If you try to open device manager it spits a "Class Not Register" error at you and won't open.
As for sound, there is simply to such icon or function for an interface. Which disallows the installation of a driver.
Otherwise, she runs smoothly.

If I understand the problem, it's because there are some Registry keys missing. Any idea on how to fix this issue?

(I tried running a repair off the cd, no luck)

Thanks guys!

You need a working XP CD, not the one you're using. Go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow and hit enter. The Windows File Protection window pops up. Place the working XP CD in and it will copy and missing system files from the disc.

so my school got me an eee PC, but they decided to mess with it before giving it to me. They installed the OS, made my root profile "year 10" and I can't change it, as well as installed other useless programs, messed with the root of cmd (which I changed), and set up random folders and network configurations.

My main issue is, I don't want this registered to the school. When I go into "my computer" properties, it says my liscence and above: [name of school - removed for security] LEA. I looked under the eee PC and the XP registration that came with it is different to the registration currently registered in the properties.

I just really don't want this to have to actually belong to the school, and would actually like to install a new OS, but alas I don't have one. What can I do?

A:eee PC registered to school

There is nothing we can do to remove any restrictions placed on a comupter.
It is against our rules.

You will need to contact the school's IT department.

Help - I have a windows 2000 system that is now complaining everytime I appear to open a folder/control panel/...
basically it appears to be an internet explorer script error..
Error Msg is 'Library not registered' and the url it refers to changes depending on what I'm doing - for the control panel - it's file://C:\WINNT\Web\controlp.htt

I've reinstalled Win2k SP2 and even upgraded from IE 5.5 SP2 to IE 6 - but still the same problem.. it gets worse because if I open the Computer Management window the Local Users and Groups icon has a big RED CIRCLE with white cross on it and opening this gives a similar message 'Unable to access the computer xxxxxxx. The error was: Library not registered'

Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this one - without having to completely re-install!!!!

A:Library Not Registered!!

That is most likely going to be either a registry error or a damaged htt file. If it is a registry error, then you might as well re-install, these are almost always a clsid key and there are thousands of them in the registry.

Try booting from a CD and repairing the OS. If you have an ERD, use that when prompted.
You could try copying the controlp.htt from a second computer to the bad one.
You can also try removing folder customizations from each folder.

(BTW the htt file is a hypertext file used in windows help and folder customizations)

I am building a system and I purchased one stick of RAM that is "unbuffered", 1gb size. Should I have bought the registered/buffered RAM instead? I read somewhere that if you have over 1gb of RAM in your system it should be buffered. Will this type degrade the performance?

Just found out my machines requires registered SDRram. For the life of me I can't find out what this means. What is the difference between registered and unregistered ram?

A:RAM Registered VS UnRegistered

Here's a description of the two types of SDRAM you refer to from's website.

Q: What is the difference between registered and unregistered SDRAM?
A: SDRAM comes in two varieties - registered and unregistered. The difference is the presence of a clock synchronizing circuit in the registered SDRAM that provides support for the memory system. Memory transfers to and from the processor are transmitted as burst cycles. Four 64-bit transfers between the processor and memory make up a burst. Registered SDRAM synchronizes the system clock and a clock in the memory itself to maintain the proper burst timing. In simple application environments, this feature is less important, therefore offering less expensive unregistered SDRAM enables a more cost-effective solution for the customer. In addition, unregistered SDRAM, though offering less expansion, enables higher performance than registered SDRAM. Click to expand...

the guy who made my computer though it would be funny if he made the registered to name "Hello Kitty" and I was wondering if there was a way to change this to something else I would really appreciate the help. thanks guys .

A:Changing my registered to name?

Open a command window (Start > Run > type: cmd and hit Enter). Type the following command, except substitute the name you want to use between the second set of quotes:
REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v RegisteredOwner /t REG_SZ /d "your name" /f

This edits the registry without you having to use regedit.
