I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

first of all please excuse me if this is in the wrong forum and if what l say loose you as l am new to all this. l want to build a computer that has more balls than a wild pack of dogs. l have been told that if l buy a supermicro X7DBE+ Motherboard With Extended ATX which runs dual processors, front side bus speeds of 1.333Ghz, Front side bus uses a 64 bit wide 1333 Mhz data bus that transfer data at 10.7 Gb/sec for a total bandwith of 21.3 Gb/sec. Total memory bandwith of 32.0 Gb/s for DDR2 667. And build the rest up from the motherboard l will never need to upgrade. This all means nothing to me so l thankyou all who help in advance. Also does running dual processors mean that you will have twice the speed.

Okay so basically I ve had a lot of trouble with my computer lately It all started when I tampered with the registry which was broke my PC so badly I had to have new a Buying motherboard it formatted and I had to start from scratch I asked he guys at the repair place to quot upgrade my PC so it is in line with modern standards quot - I wanted a modern working machine They installed a new GB hard disk as well as leaving my old GB one in there which I used for storage when formatting the main drive and they also put in an extra MB RAM giving me a total of GB RAM which I believe is pretty decent But besides that they removed nothing and changed nothing despite stressing that my sound card is crap and I have a meager processor AMD Athlon GHZ I installed Windows XP Professional Edition Buying a new motherboard and Service Pack but after one or two sessions of my PC running smoothly and as fast Buying a new motherboard as hell it soon broke down again starting up slowly crashing my desktop and my explorer menus as well as me losing one of the stereo tracks meaning that when I m listening to music I only hear half the audio not to mention the audio crackling badly and often freezing and refusing to playback for several seconds in extreme cases Additionally not all of my USBs work meaning I ve had to plug some really impractical stuff into the front ports and I have two CD drives one of which does not work at all and I also believe they re supposed to play DVDs but they don t I ve not actually bought a new computer for like six years but that s because I can t afford one However I do not believe that I need one since it has some good parts in it I believe what would solve my woes is a new motherboard and a new sound card but I would like some help with a few questions Before I ask my questions here are my PC s current specs AMD Athlon GHz GB RAM HDD C GB HDD D GB ATI Buying a new motherboard Radeon graphics card On-board sound card And now my questions How good is my current machine judging by the above specs What would you recommend I add remove from my machine Currently the oldest parts of the PC are the motherboard the CD drives one of which doesn t work and the GB hard drive Is there any chance that the old hard drive could carry some afflictions which are being transferred to my new one or could my motherboard by the source of the problem What would you recommend I buy in terms of a motherboard I cannot stress how important it is that I get this PC fixed- I need it for a lot of stuff Any help is very much appreciated nbsp

A:Buying a new motherboard

From the sound of it, you may need to upgrade more than just your motherboard. You could just get another one but it would have to be second hand as you wont be able to buy a brand new motherboard that would work with your 1Ghz Processor.
The cheapest upgrade I can think of that would give you a decent upgrade for the money would be the following: (You didnt say if you were UK or US based, sorry)
1 x Socket 939 motherboard with an AGP socket (you should be able to get one off ebay but make sure it has IDE hard drive connections and not SATA) it should come with an integrated sound card anyway, so you wont need to buy a separate sound card. (Approx $20-30)
1 x AMD Athlon 3200+ Socket 939 (approx $30)
(Optional but maybe necessary - New DVD RW Drive, approx $30)

You will be able to use your New Hard drive and RAM with the above items and although it should give you some better performance without breaking the bank account. $50-60 for motherboard and processor together, or $80 if you get a DVD RW drive too.
It's possible that the old hard drive is causing problems and because its so small, id be tempted just to remove it.
You can also upgrade your graphics card as it is ageing, but if you are on a budget, you dont have to do that - its probably not causing any problems for you.

A:buying motherboard

Yes, the board will work.  Given that replacing the hard drive on this model requires a system board removal, if the drive you have is original to the system, consider replacing it along with the mainboard - you'll be doing all the labor anyway, so you may as well take care of the potential for a hard drive failure at the same time.

I am looking to buy a new motherboard, reason i want to do that is to get 8gb ram atm my motherboard only supports 4gb ram.

never bought a motherboard on its own before so not sure what is best and what ones i can have, i want a motherboard that can work with my ram/graphics card/hard drive etc so i dont have to buy everything again.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-M5A78L...F8&qid=1414669262&sr=8-1&keywords=motherboard

been looking at that one, fairly cheap and good reviews. if you know a better motherboard at a better price link me to that,

do i just buy that motherboard and connect my other hardware and its good to go? or do i have to do other stuff?

thanks.

A:buying a new Motherboard.

No way we can answer that since you haven't told what hardware you have. What processor, memory, graphics card, case, etc do you have now? What motherboard do you have now?

Do you have a 64-bit version of Windows to support more than 4GB of RAM?

You may need to reinstall Windows if you replace the motherboard.

Personally I wouldn't buy an motherboard based on an old 700 series chipset.

A:Need help on buying new motherboard. PLEASE!!

I think you might be asking more of your $200 than is possible. After buying the CPU you will only have $40 left over. You will not get a good complimenting motherboard for the processor with that much left over. Plus you need to remember that you will most probably need to update the memory, and possibly the power supply in the case. You will more than likely need to expand your budget or go to a more discounted processor. Look at www.computergate.com and the Celeron socket 478 processors. A drop below the P4 but a better buy at the same speed. With money left over !! YOu could get a nice motherboard and processor and stay below $200 maybe have enough left over for memory. As far as M/B go I reccommend either ASUS, Gigabyte, or Soyo. They have done well for me in the past, stay away from ECS have never seen M/B with more problems than those seem to have.

Hello everybody.

I am planning on getting a new CPU and motherboard this Christmas. However, I'm a little low on budget. Could you guys please recommend a CPU + Motherboard combination at under $200 ($150 if possible)?

My current specs are:

Motherboard : Asus P5B-MX / WiFi-AP
RAM : 2 GB (Transcend)
Graphics Card : XFX 9800 GT
Processor : Intel P4 2.93 GHz
OS : Windows XP Professional

Would it be a good idea to go for the AMD X2 6000+?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103272 At that price, wow, why not. It certainly would give your old P4 quite a thumping!

Is your copy of XP Pro a retail copy? If not and it's an OEM copy, you might run into trouble trying to migrate it to a completely different machine. Since, cost is an issue, this might make the Q6600 in the old board the best choice.

a fast, and able to overclock motherboard my budget is $55.. do you know a good motherboard that will do the trick?...

For a 478 socket, DDR, 1 AGP 8x, and all possible pci slots, (up to 7 or 6 slots)

oh yea.. and im new to overclocking, can someone hook me up with overclocking guides, or hints, and warnings please?.. thanks..

A:Buying a motherboard

Your budget is too low for the things you described. Here's one that would do the job quite nicely, and it's not too much more than your budget:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131484

IMO - You really don't want to go super cheap on your mobo. You'll regret it later, especially if you're pushing your components hard by overclocking.

1. I don't think you will be able to keep xp installed and just switch motherboards, you probably will have to plan on just formatting(back up first) and doing a clean install. What do you mean by the ide controller has you confused? What are you wondering?
3. No, all atx aren't the same size, but the maximum size is about 12x9.6". My chaintech vnf4ultra nforce4ultra 939(I'd recommend it, but you already have an awesome agp card ) mobo is "atx", but actually like 12x8" or close to that. In smaller atx, like mine, they are just missing the outer edge of screw mounting holes. Your case should have the right standoffs already. I didn't use magnetic screw drivers, but it sure would have been handy at times. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.
4. Using your existing install, will probably be problematic, if it works at all. I would think that you could use you existing xp cd. I mean it isn't like you'll be using it on 2 computers, you just want to transfer it to your new system. You might have to call microsoft to see for sure though.

Hi,
I'm looking for a new computer these days, and I need an advice for the motherboard. Actually I don't have much money, and I need a motherboard with an AGP slot (it will be better if it has a PCI-E either for further video card upgrade), supporting celeron-D cpu.
Looking in the stores nearby I noticed this one:
Asrock P4DUAL- 880 PRO - s.478, VIA PT880 Pro/ 8237R, HT, Prescott Ready, 800, 4xDDR400 Dual ch., PCI Express Graphics slot, AGP8x, Lan, sound, ...and so on
It seems to have everything I need and it's kinda cheap (as it has a Via chipset). What can you advice me? I don't need excellent performance, only a working PC And what does "dual" means - do I have to buy dual channel RAM only?
thanx a lot.

A:Question about buying a motherboard

"Dual" in the model name means it supports either PCI ex or AGP graphics, also it supports dual ram technology which you will have to install in identical pairs.
Use single if you don't want dual ram set up. See link for manual

A:New motherboard worth buying?

hard to say

I don't know what your system has, but there are things to consider, If you want better game play, yeah, you'll want a mobo to handle AGP/PCIexpress, etc., but then- will your power supply handle it? RAM? CPU?

Just changing mobos alone involves quite a bit- new installation of operating system, which means you want to back up your current data, and then you start upgrading video cards, almost everything else will probably need at least SOME upgrading/tweaking, so there are lots of things to consider.

Some of the guys around here who know gaming will be more help than me, but I'm sure there'll be more to it than just a mobo change. Good luck!! :knock:

I am fairly new to this board and need some advice. It looks like I will be needing to replace a motherboard. It is my son's computer and he just spent $75 to have a repairman tell him his MB was shot and a new one would cost $375 plus labor. Needless to say, I brought it home and am trying to fix it myself.
The computer is a HP Pavilion Model #6740C with an Intel Celeron 667 MHz; Socket 370 with an Intel 810 chipset. What else do I need to know in order to find the correct fit for this computer? Does anyone have any suggestions where I might find a motherboard for my HP that is not real expensive? I have looked at several sites but haven't been able to find the right one yet. I'm not sure what brand the MB is. Any suggestions??

Hello everyone, I am looking to buy a new motherboard for my Z50-70, as I see this as my only option for my SSD/HDD to get detected in BIOS. I have gone through many lengths to get it working by WINtoUSB and reflashing the BIOS, but to no greater avail. So now I am looking for a new motherboard and it is virtually impossible to find one, Lenovo/Medion directed me to their site and it was out of stock. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A785-M

For a normal price.. no need for high-end four months of salary thing
I want 4GB or maybe more (I do run 64bit win 7)

Thanks in advance !

A:Buying new memory, motherboard support

Computer memory upgrades for ASUS M4A785-M Motherboard from Crucial.com

Above link shows all compatible RAM at Crucial.com using their configurator for your motherboard model.

Take your pick from that list. You can buy from Crucial directly or make note of the part numbers and buy that RAM at the dealer of your choice.

There are several speed choices in that list. In your situation, I would just get the standard PC2-5300, Non-ECC:

CT2KIT25664AA667

Priced at 49.99. You may be able to find that same part number at a lower price at another retailer such as Newegg.

Hello, I have recently decided to get a new graphics card for my HP Compaq Presario CQ5320Y. After opening it up I only see one PCI slot and 2 black slots that are unkown to me. I have done a little research and some sites say that there are PCI express slots but i am not sure which ones those are. Anyways after looking around, I decided on this card but am still not sure if its the best i should get, an suggestions? I am looking for a card for mostly gaming and am willing to spend up to $100 - $150 tops. This is the one I have decided on so far. Galaxy Technology 512 MB DDR3 GeForce GTS250 Graphics Card 25SFF6HX1RUI (sorry about no links unable to post links or images for now)

A:Deciding on buying new graphics card and need help with motherboard slots

The HP Compaq Presario CQ5320Y does have 1 PCI-E x16 slot and 1 PCI-E x1 slot. The best option for you would be to purchase an ATI Radeon HD 5770. It will give vastly superior performance compared to the GTS 250. However, for either card, your PSU will be insufficient. Presently your system has a 250W PSU. You will need one in excess of 400W with sufficient amperage on the 12V rails. The Corsair 400CX should be good enough but the 450VX is a safer bet.

Hi (a post after a long time)
I've a F90M motherboard (with intel 915G chipset - i gues chipset doesn't have to do anything with front panel connections, but ... ). It came out of Acer 3700GX PC (i think its a bit old ).
Ok, now i'm trying to put it in a standard larger ATX casing. I've fitted it in and everything works fine except the front panel connections. I cannot identify the front panel connections and could only manage to identify the power switch pins on the motherboard.

I've searched over internet and couldn't find a manual of the motherboard (found manual for the PC on www.nodevice.com but it doesn't tell how to connect front panel)

so can you guys please suggest me the connections for front panel LEDs, Audio and USB.

and i really believe that you TSG guys are up to it

Thanks in advance

I've been looking for the front panel pin layout on the Dell Dual Xeon Motherboard with Dell P/N: 0WN7Y6 (it is a # zero, W, N, #7, Y, #6).
The front panel connector is 27-pin...28 spots with one pin left blank. The pin layout isn't included in the manual and I'm trying to boot two of these motherboards without the 27-pin connector. I just need to know which pins need to be jumpered in order to test for boot to BIOS.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I could use some creative customer service here. My M3800 shipped with the known power-on motherboard defect. It was replaced at no charge, which was very nice. However, the replacement (2nd motherboard!) is now having the same intermittent dead / no power problem.
To get the computer running, I have to remove the case (12 screws) and un-plug the internal battery to 're-set' the electrical fault. After I put it back together, the computer starts normally. This is not very convenient, especially when meeting with new clients.
The problem is that I am being told I am outside the 3-month repair warranty. I think this stinks! It's a known issue and I would like someone at Dell to step up make my expensive computer work normally all of he time.
Yes, I have run every diagnostic known to man and the internet.

hey guys, does anyone if there are any other drivers for this board? i'm looking at this page after selecting 'driver' and 'win7 64 bit'. http://gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3166&dl=1#dl i only see 'audio', 'chipset' 'LAN' and 'RAID'. on the other boards i've seen, the driver software was much more comprehensive and contained several different pieces of software.

what's the main driver i need to install after installing win7 for the motherboard? just wondering if i'm missing something and need to install something else for the 'main features'? or are there main features found in the BIOS before win7 boots up? how does win7 recognise the board btw? does the board have drivers built in already? how can winxp recognise mboards that have been made very recently?

thanks guys

A:Gigabyte motherboard: P55M-UD4 some questions on motherboard software

Those are all the drivers you need, and really all any motherboard needs to work. You also have some Utilities under the drop down menu of "Download Type" but these are optional tweaking and similar utilities not required for proper operation of the system. Any version of Windows will have limited driver support, enough to install and run until the correct drivers are installed, or for a SATA or RAID controller under Windows XP drivers are loaded via the F6 prompt during the initial stages of the XP install to allow it to detect the hard drive. There are no drivers built into the hardware itself.

Okay, so as the topic title implies, for the life of me, I cannot figure out which motherboard model I'm supposed to get for this Dell Inspiron 1300 here. Only info I have is that it has the Centrino sticker on the palm rest of the case, and I also have the service tag, but that doesn't seem to give me much information from what I've found.

I've taken the motherboard out of the thing and looked it over, but no luck, as I don't see the model number on it.

Will someone please tell me how I'm supposed to figure out the motherboard model number so I can get a new one?

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A:im buying a dvd rom...

DVD roms are very inexpencive.. This Sony http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172460 is only $26. I might suggest going ahead and getting a DVD-RW drive if you are going to upgrade. You can get a Sony for under $50 through ZipZoomFly or NewEgg. Something like http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172472 for $39.99. It may come in handy someday if you ever want to back up some pictures/music/files.

As for installation, you just need to plug it in just like your old CD-Rom was. Its pretty easy to see once you crack open your case. The pins only fit one way on the device, so its hard to mess that up.. and Windows should recognize the new device and load the drivers for you.

Good luck!

Hi again,
A friend of mine asked me to update his incredibly sluggish computer, and it's obvious for me that he needs significantly more RAM than he has right now.
The said computer has two slots, being one occupied with a 1GB stick.

My question is, should I buy a 2x1GB stick or a 2GB stick (same speeds, but different brand) in order to get optimal performance and stability?
(I still ponder getting 2x2GB, but I don't believe he's willing to pay ?39 for it).

Best regards,
Pedro.

If his motherboard supports it, I would get two sticks and run them in dual channel. When using ram always match sticks of the same to avoid issues.

HP Refurb

Just been looking on Ebay under sellers or power sellers what ever it is, and there is a staggering number of amazing spec machines.. the hard drives are much lower.. but some include two graphics cards and 8GB of RAM for £500. The best example i believe being below;

Ebay one

Not sure if they are worth it though? Ive been thinking about ungradability.. and want a board that can support 8GB of Ram really.
Any ideas guys?

I am about to upgrade to a new GFX card and PSU next month due to experiencing temperature and power related issues with my existing GFX card(ASUS EN9600GT 512Mb DDR3) and PSU(Trust 570W Pro Duel Fan PSU). My budget for both PSU and GFX card is £250-£300. I use my PC mainly for gaming and have a duel monitor setup. Can anyone recomend a sutable GFX Card and PSU in or around my price range please? My specs E8500, P5N32E-SLI, 4Gb DDR2.

Frankly, you're not going to get much better for that budget. 9600gt is in that range of cards. I personally wouldnt even go with the 4850.

****This software is a full version Windows XP Pro. It is not intended for commercial use; Home and student media****

You cannot use it at all? Its supposed to sit on a shelf and collect dust?

I have only ever seen copies this cheap when they are OEM versions. (I.E. HP, Dell, etc.)

Oh, by the way...when you say bundled copy, you mean OEM version? Did you reformat or what?

9. WD or Seagate?Click to expand...

Whichever is cheaper. Matter of opinion, but I would go with WD.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66Ghz Quad Core
Power Supply - Antec EarthWatts 750W
Motherboard - Gigabyte EP45 UD3PClick to expand...

I would reconsider those three only, the others look good I think.
For gaming, I don't think the expensive Q9400 is the best choice. For an intel platform, I would use an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 - Retail and a P45 (SLI or CF only if you think you will later on). I would lean towards an AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Black Processor - Retail 0 and a 790V/G/X/FX/GX/GFX AM3 board, so DDR3 RAM also.
The powersupply just seems like too much for a GTX 275, again this is slightly dependant on SLI/CF later on. CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 ... - Retail is a good choice, it is on sale right now for $5 less than the 550w.

Hey sup guys? I am looking to buy an SSD so I can put my programs such as Firefox, Adobe Suit and similar as well as the OS on it, but having hard time figuring which one would be ideal.

My current MOBO is Asus M4N78-SE. You can view rest of the specs on my profile.

I am currently looking at:

RAM

as well as

SSD

PS:

Budget for SSD + RAM £130 MAX

And snap, my mobo supports only DDR2 so it looks like il be needing to upgrade a new mobo :3

Advice appreciated.

Intel Core2Duo 3.0Mhz

Westen Digital 250GB Harddisk
GeForce 9600GT 1GB

2#
AMD Phenom ii 940 30Mhz
GigaByte MotherBoard
Ram 4GB DDR2(2*2)
Westen Digital 250GB Harddisk
Ati HD4850 1GB

Regards,,,

A:Regarding buying new PC

Quite different machines... what are the differences in price... I like a lot of AMD processors, but no tthe Phenom II... so I would prefer the Core 2 Duo... If the prices are similar, #1 is a better deal... GigaByte motherboards are more trouble free than ASUS and others...

Are you building it, or buying a commercial machine or one already built...

The case and the power supply are at least as important as what you have posted... Some cases do not offer enough room for the CPU cooler... or for upgrades later...

Do not cheat yourself by getting a low priced case..

Hello @cherokeeray? Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. If you have some specific issue, this can probably be fixed - don't loose hope. Internet is great. Please provide details about the issue as well as your HP computer model >> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/First-Time-Here-Learn-How-to-Post-and-More/Advice-for-asking-the-quot-V...   Windows Update/upgrade is not mandatory - especially Windows 7 it can easily be stopped. You are not forced to update Windows / upgrade to Windows 10.If you are not happy with Windows OS - there are some alternatives like GNU/Linux - Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, etc...You need a new computer only if this one has stopped working, there are some specific issues or your PC is really too old so that it can't run modern OS/applications.

I' m wondering if I should buy this PC:

Athlon XP 1800+
Elitegroup K755A Mainboard (266 FSB)
256 MB Infineon DDR RAM
60 GB IBM HD UDMA-100 7200U
16x40 DVD-Rom
32x12x40 CDRW Burn Proof
NVIDEA Geforce 4 MX 64 MB DDR TV (if I buy the PC I will replace it with a Geforce 3 Ti 500 or a Geforce 4 Ti 4200)

1. I ran 3Dmark 2001 in the shop and it only got 5300 points.
Is this only due to the crummy video card or is there something
wrong with the whole system?

2. Can I use the PC 133 memory of my old PC in the new one?

Obviously whether you buy this machine depends on how much you are going to pay for it... The spec looks OK to me although I don't know anything about Elitegroup motherboards.

If you are benchmarking the system, it is a good idea to make sure that all the latest drivers are installed in the machine (I doubt they will be if it's shop built) to make the most of it... although the GFX card might be the limiting factor there (More memory might help too).

If the Motherboard is DDR, you will not be able to use your old pc133 sdram (U can send it to me if you want....) Why would you want to do this anyway? - you have DDR in the new system.

Hope this helps, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong....

p.s. Just noticed that this is my 300th post.....Yippee!!

I am contemplating a fresh install of XP. I do not currently have the disk that came with my PC, so will need to buy. I do currently have a valid, working (for the most part) copy of XP Home edition on PC. WhicH copy do I need to buy?

Windows XP Home Edition SP2 - $224.95

or

Windows XP Professional Upgrade SP2 - $89.95

Sorry if this is a moronic question. I'm hoping the cheaper purchase would work. Please keep in mind that the whole purpose of my doing this is to start with a fresh clean copy of XP. So if the upgrade will work but not give me a clean install, it would be worthless to me.

Thanks much.

A:Buying XP

Actually, you don't need to buy either. If XP came with your system, there is a Windows sticker somewhere on it that has your Product Key. That's really what you're buying. You can borrow a Windows XP installation CD from anyone and use it. Just make sure the version of the CD matches the type of product key you have (XP Home)

Best,

Hi,

I consider buying Win 10 Home FPP(not upgrading from older Win) with licence for one computer.
If understand licencing correctly when remove I win10 from one computer(in case of retail lic.) I should be able to install it on another one.
1. Can this be done without calling to Microsoft and explaining them all the details?
2. How many times can this be done without getting into any troubles like expiring licence or calling MS?

In short I want to buy win10 and want to know how many times I can upgrade motherboard or buy a new computer without windows getting me any troubles.

No, you just need a router if you do not already have one. The cable modem will connect to the router and the router will share the internet to the two or more computers.

Can my Abit AN52S support Amd Athlon II cpu because I saw at the Daily Tech that AMD say that they AM3 CPU will be backward compatible with Socket AM2 motherboard....

Is this true and can I just try to put the Amd Athlon II and will it works??

A:Need Help In Buying CPU

Sometimes true... but you may find a big anomaly between the X2 and X3. Weird things can happen. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's web site to see if both X3 and X2 are supported. Remember, you have chipset software to worry about as well.

I'm confused. I'm considering going to Vista for the 64-bit feature. Problems galore aside, how do I know if I'm buying 32-bt or 64-bit? One site I looked at seemed to indicate you buy 32-bit, then send away for the 64-bit. Microsoft's website was no help.

A:Am I buying 64-bit?

I think you're correct there - if you buy Vista from a retail store you will get the 32bit version, unless it's Vista Ultimate. You may have to pay for the shipping of the extra media too...

I have an HP Pavilion 531w desktop computer, 1.3 GHz Intel Celeron Processor, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, running Windows XP Home, and I'm considering adding more RAM because XP is such a memory hog. One of my PC games, The Sims, hogs a lot of memory as well, and I think it would help to add more RAM. I have 256MB right now, and I believe the maximum I can have is 512MB. I looked at Crucial but they want $77 for 256MB and I'm hoping to find some other place that is a bit cheaper than that. So, where's the best place to buy RAM?

I'm looking to buy a new AMD based PC.
In particular, I like the new AM3 system however, the benchmarks indicate that the Phenom II 810 is quite **** so I better stick with the tri-core Phenom II 720. Is this a good gaming PC? I rarely upgrade so I guess I'm stuck with this PC for about 3-4 years. I just can't wait for the Phenom II 945 to be available. Also if there is a Phenom II 925, I would consider buying it.

BTW, my budget is around $750. I don't know much aside from the processor so a list about the other components would be really helpful.

Help me make this an epic build TSG! I want to play PC games again.
The last time I bought a computer was 7 years ago!

Hi there. I'm getting a new Dell 17" LCD monitor soon that has a resolution of 1280x1240 (or something like that) and a 12ms response time , but it has no DVI port. Does this really matter? and how good is the 12ms response time?

I use the computer mainly for surfing website, development and some graphic design with photoshop and maybe flash soon. I might play games sometime but it's less likley. And i'm probably going to go dual screen soon.

and again , do i need a DVI? and how would the 12ms response time be?
thanks in advance

A:buying a new LCD need a little help

For your use, the 12ms response time will be just fine. I have two 19" monitors on this system, one a 25ms one, and one a 12ms one. I don't see any difference in my development use. You don't need DVI, though I'd be tempted to buy one with a dual interface so that you can run either. Also, many adapters have DVI and VGA, so it makes connecting dual monitors easy, one DVI and one VGA.

A:Help on buying a new PC

Hey Matt and welcome to Techspot!

Ignore the rumors about 64-bit CPU. You can get AMD 64 (either socket 754 or 939) you will get best games out of it BUT Intel Pentium 4 2.8C ghz with HT (1mb L2 cache) perform better for multi-tasking and games too. (both socket 478 and 775). If you want a budget gaming pc for under a grand. My suggestion is get Intel Celeron 540. Use a stick or two of 512MB or more Dual-Channel PC3700. <still cheap but strong> CPU and ram should cost you close to between of $275 to $400.

Hi

I'm ready to go and buy a big amount of CD-RW

Any brand names or speed in particular you guys recomend it?
thanks

Alex

A:Buying CDs

The only thing you have to decide is what quality you want to get, and obviously the higher quality the less risk for errors on the recording. As for speed, in my opinion you can buy the slowest speed disks out there and record them at any speed because that really doesn't matter and you don't need to spend all that money on epensive 24x cdr... because they all record at the same speed.

Hi. My sister, who is even less computer savvy than I am, would like to purchase a new desktop or laptop. I tried to get her to switch to a Mac since I find them much easier to use, but she seems hesitant as they can be quite costly and she isn't familiar with them. All she really needs a computer for is internet, burning CDs, downloading music, word processing, and maybe some basic photo editing. She is looking to spend at the most $1,500 US. I am trying to find information on processors and locate a good computer that will last several years. Any suggestions? I have heard bad things about Dell computers, but not much else in regard to any other brand. I know nothing about processors anymore either.
If anyone has any suggestions that would be fantastic!

Thanks!

A:Buying a new PC

You may get as many different answers as there are readers of your post. Dell lovers/haters, Compaq lovers/haters. In my humble opionion, be sure it has a Pentium processor, preferably Pentium IV.

I also suggest either having one built or ordering one with what you need as "off the rack" computers may have too many things you don't/won't need. For example, I was five states away at a new account and the shipped computer crashed and I had to buy one that had so many options not needed and that conflicted with the proprietary software we use, it took two days to get operational. For instance, five different types of removable storage slots. Sheesh!

I'm sure you will get many suggestions.

Hi all I am looking at buying a new PC in around - months time and I am looking at a budget of around - I know of quite a few suppliers in UK overclockers aria ebuyer novatech etc but I would be interesting to hear of peoples opinions on any suppliers they have used in the past It s been many years since I have bought a complete system I am more than happy to buy my own component and build myself if that is a more viable option financially however I am looking at getting a new monitor LCD aswell so thought a complete package may better suit I do a fair bit of gaming but do not buy all the latest titles all the time I would like a decent upgrade from my current rig which wouldn t be too hard to be perfectly honest and want to go to Win and bit ideally Any thoughts or comments are appreciated I will be doing my own research aswell to see what options I can come up with nbsp
