Ok so, I fried my motherboard a while back and am just now getting an Abit barebone kit with a brand new motherboard and was wondering whether my DDR RDIMM will work in the new DDR2 RIMM memory expansion slots?
Abit Barbone Kit tech Info:
Diablo Black and Silver ATX Mid-Tower Case with 400 Watt Power Supply
Abit LG-95Z Intel Socket 775 MicroATX Motherboard
Intel Celeron D 360 3.46GHz OEM Processor
Here is a link to the barebone kit at Tigerdirect.com:
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
No. You need ddr2 memory.https://forums.techguy.org/threads/will-ddr-drimm-work-in-ddr2-dimm-expansion-slot.583293/
i have had trouble with my computer after cleaning it (can of compressed air) it would boot to log in screen then go black on the monitor or it would blue screen and restart.
after figuring out it was a RAM problem i tried another stick of RAM but same problem so i guess its the actual slot it goes into, i only have 2 on my motherboard lucky one of them is working still.
has anyone had this problem or know of a way to fix it, i am wondering if some of the canned air/gas became a liquid from spraying to close and got in it.
any help would be appreciated thanks.
ok so i have been looking into my problem more, when booting i press tab to show the POST?? or somthing and it says that 1 of the RAMs wouldnt/couldnt R/W (read write?? i dont know)
then i get the screen saying that windows has had hardware changes and asking to how i want to start windows (normal, safe mode, etc) i have tried all but it just restarts.
now its only with 1 of the 2 dimm slots this happens and i have tried differend RAM in there but only the 1 slot works
any help would be appreciated
I have Windows 7 32-bit and 2 x 1GB G.Skill DDR2 1066 modules installed.
- I am thinking of adding one more G.Skill DDR2 stick (1GB).
Does it make sense just to install 3 GB?
There's kernal patch for 32 bits to support 4 gigs
I'm looking at setting up a new server - SBS 2003. It's been a while since I set one up and ran across a machine that has FB-DIMM memory. Something I'm not familiar with. Any feedback on I should go for it or steer clear of it? Thanks all.
Hey i was surfing the web and found this thread about 'Asus m2n SLI' - black DIMM slots wont insert my DDR2 RAM properly. and i am having the exact problem as this guy. Did anyone ever figure out why the black slots wouldnt take it? Its crazy? lol Any info is appreciated!
Let's say we don't know exactly to which thread you are referring. Can you describe your problem in better detail?

Hi I saw a post about the asus m n sl i motherboard on RAM properly DIMM slots my DDR2 black 'Asus - insert wont SLI' m2n here and thought i would ask for some advice or help I have recently bought more RAM for my computer hoping to add 'Asus m2n SLI' - black DIMM slots wont insert my DDR2 RAM properly the RAM i had already however after trying to insert the new RAM into the black DIMM slots for dual channel they wouldnt insert properly so i started thinking quot oh no ive bought the wrong one quot but then i removed my old RAM from the yellow DIMM slots put my new stuff in and they fit and work perfect so my problem is that none of the RAM i have will fit into the black DIMM sockets despite them both being pin mhz DDR They just wont slot in enough for me to click both clamps down if i manage to get the bottom of the RAM inserted so it clamps in the top end will sit up and if i get the top in the bottom end will sit up and so on and so fourth I have done a bit of research and all sockets yellow and black are supposed to be DDR sockets pin So why wont it take the RAM ive got nbsp
Is it possible that you need to flip the RAM modules 180 degrees? The notch in the insertion end is not in the middle so it will prevent the RAM from seating if you insert it backwards.
Well I recently decided to upgrade from 1gig of RAM to 2Gigs on my A7N8X-E Deluxe 2800+ ... It had 2 512Ram sticks in the first 2 slots (Which I assume means it never was running dual channel mode right?) Well I went and got a 1gig stick that matches exactly to every spec the 512 sticks have, except its one gig instead of 512. I put the 1gig stick in the #1 slot, 512 sticks in #2 and #3, but it shows i have 1536 RAM, the 3rd Dimm slot is not picking up anything at all, like its empty, except it isnt, and I know all 3 sticks of ram work just fine
Is there something Im missing thats causing the 3rd Dimm slot to not recongnize anything there? Because the PC does know it has a 3rd slot
Put the two 512MB memory modules in slots 1 & 2 leaving the 3rd slot to house the 1GB memory module. If that doesn't work, try booting the system with each memory module by itself to see if you haven't "burnt" one of the modules during the installation.

As the title suggest my motherboard seems to have an issue reading memory I have x gb sticks and the computer will not boot unless a specific stick is in the A dimm slot The computer refuses to boot if that same stick is in any other slot and when placed in the A slot a beep message indicating I have no memory installed occurs The other stick seems to not work in any slot including A and the computer will only boot with two sticks if they're in A A but still only reads stick This problem arose after I installed a Hyper cooler I have read of similar issues due to the instillation being to tight and remedying it by loosing however I loosened it and the problem still persist I fear I might be too late and the damage has been done I do issue. slot RAM/Dimm need all gb to be accessible so any help or advice is welcome As for the memory itself the stick that can boot with the computer reads no error yet it still only works in that slot The other stick I received after an rma of a previous one I can assume the stick works fine but I can't test it I have also updated my bios to the most current version

My 2nd DIMM slot is not recognising my DDR2 RAM.
I have 2 slots with 256mb in each. I safely took the 2nd one out to check the type because i am upgrading to 2gb. I put it back in again and now when I press F2 on startup the 2nd DIMM slot is classed as "Empty"
Any suggestions? Thanks
reset your cmos and retry. If that doesn't work - your slot went bad.
Hello - I have a bit a a problem, not so big now, but will be in the future...
A quick overview of my system specs:
MSI K8N Neo-Force 4
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2 x Nanya 512mb RAM, 1 x Corsair 512mb
ATI Radeon X1600 Pro (Sapphire)
200gb Seagate Barracuda
120gb Seagate Barracuda
2 x DVD/CD Combo Drives (TS-H552)
Heres the problem: DIMM slots 1 and 3 run fine, but 2 and 4 wont accept RAM... it gives me long beeps, so something is wrong with the slots... The RAM is compatible with each other, I checked that, and it is compatible with my system.
Do these slots take a different kind of RAM or is something wrong with the motherboard?
Well ill get right to it months ago i came back from work and a dimm slot wasn t working led load indicators on ram so i pulled it out made sure there wasn t anything making a bad connection put it back in still didn t work tried different sticks still didn t work So i did an rma to asus and they sent it back saying it just needed a bios update but the thing is i tried every bios slot? dimm causing Cpu/Mobo bad version they had I don t know if it actually fixed it or Cpu/Mobo causing bad dimm slot? not as i forgot thermal compound doh but i don t believe that it actually fixed it so now my suspisions are on the cpu Could a bad AMD processor cause a specific dimm slot not to work cuz i ve heard they have their memory controller on the processor Any guesses ill post again monday after i get the grease c if it does actually work thanks in advance nbsp
i have just built myself a pc, using an asus k8v se deluxe motherboard, amd 64 2800+ cpu, asus 9520 td graphics card, crucial ddr400 512mb ram, maxtor 160gb sata hdd's and optical drives.
put the pc together and went to install windows, only to find it would blue screen and reset, i search the net and it said this could be due to bad ram, so i ram a mem test and it came back ok, tried putting the dimm from slot 1 to slot 2 but the same thing happened, put it in slot 3 and it worked!
tried a friends pc2100 ram and that worked in all three slots.
put the pc2100 ram in slot 1 and the ddr400 ram in slot 2 and that worked (where as before with the ddr400 on its own in slot 1 or 2 it would fail)
any ideas as to whats wrong?
I have 6 DIMM slots. 3 of them are red and 3 are black. Is there any difference between the two colors? I have a P6T mobo.
There are 2 RAM channels. Each channel has a different color.
A couple of weeks ago, I attempted to install a new DIMM into my computer. During this attempt, the clip on one of the sides broke off. The slot still works but since it ends up being vertical when I put my computer back together, the DIMM keeps working its way loose. I suddenly drop 512MB when I turn my computer back on.
Is there any way, short of replacing the computer or motherboard, to firmly hold the DIMM in place?
When running memory diagnostic tests, I get a failure where the logs point to "Channel Num 0 DIMM Num 1" - but nothing about which of the four slots contains the failing DIMM.Where can I find documentation that translates this Channel/DIMM numbering scheme to Slot Numbers 1-4 or physical slot locations (Primary or Expansion) mentioned in the service manual? I've tried to keep this question brief and to the point, but I can provide more detail if necessary. Thanks!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-ZBook-17-how-to-locate-slot-for-failing-DIMM/td-p/5649282
I have a shared PCI/ISA slot on my MB. What (or better how) can I use this slot? I want to add a NIC for DSL but all my PCI's are in use by Firewire, SCSI, and sound cards? Can I use this shared slot for the NIC or swap out one of my others and use them in the shared??
Thanks for any help!
well, most PCI cards sohuld play nice nice with the shared slot. But i'm not to sure abuot that. I'm not sure if the sound card would like it though. You can probably just put the NIC in there
Just remember, i could be wrong.
I have an expansion slot, and I was wondering what goes in there? I know it's a stupid question, but I never hear much about it.
Hey Guys, I recently joined these forums due to a error BSOD which I received great help with, thing is running MemtestCL, Memtest86+ and Windows Memory Diagnostics, I kept getting "Hardware Problem Detected".
So one by one I tried the Modules in all 4 DIMM Slots and 2 sticks together A1,A2,B1,B2 slots but returned Errors, tried this on all 4, and found one Module was causing the error message.
I tried the remaining 3 Modules in all the slots with no error at all, my question is, does this sound like a problem with the Module itself? Or the Motherboard??
Module. If all the other sticks worked in every slot, its the ram. Were it the mobo slot, known good sticks would test bad in the mis-behaving mobo slot.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/232117-bad-module-bad-dimm-slot-corsair-vengeance-16gb.html
Hi I just bought seperate parts for my computer from newegg and I realized that when i changed my board, i forgot to make the ram match! I have ddr2 533 memory but my mobo supports ddr2 800, could the 533s still work?
Yes, they are physically the same but you may decrease the performance depending on what processor you have.
What size are the screws for PC expansion slots? Are they 6-32 x 1/4"?

The PCI card (Adaptec 29160N RAID) is 32-bit but the expansion slot on the motherboard (Super Micro P4DPR-6GM+) is 64-bit 66MHz PCI (3.3V). The card's POST doesn't show up during boot. Is this because it's 32-bit and the slot is 64-bit?
I recently upgraded my processor amp motherboard from AMD Phenom II X Asus M N T-M Now it s AMD FX- amp Asus M A L-M LX I ran two modules of RAM GB GB on that previous motherboard These are my modules Corsair CMZ GX M A C Vengeance GB Single Module DDR Memory Kingston Value RAM GB don t know the exact model but it was a Mhz always 2nd DIMM Solved: on Memory slot on is hardware new reserved motherboard module Both modules have the same latency I just had to downclock the corsair module to Mhz amp then they both ran in dual channel mode Now on this new motherboard when I check sys info in BIOS it shows just GB RAM or GB basically it Solved: Memory on 2nd DIMM slot is always hardware reserved on new motherboard just detects what s in the first slot When Solved: Memory on 2nd DIMM slot is always hardware reserved on new motherboard I boot into Windows it says that GB or GB the other slot is always hardware reserved Also task manager shows wrong RAM speed Instead of Mhz it shows Mhz And when I really run it at Mhz or even below Mhz it s always wrong in task manager There s another interesting thing happening when I try to change the memory speed in BIOS When I change it amp as soon as I hit enter after F system just powers down for a few seconds amp boots right up This is just my second motherboard amp idk if it s normal but it sure doesn t feel right I m posting this after going through a lot of posts on similar topics amp the solutions are not working for me I even checked for bent pins on my CPU but it looks good As it looks either the RAM modules are incompatible on this motherboard but then why is the speed in task manager always wrong or something is wrong with the motherboard This is what I think but I need your help to make it work I m mentally exhausted now nbsp
Do you guy knew if Dell E7250 is able to install ADDITIONAL ssd in M.2 Expansion Slots?
In the specification it's show there are free M.2 slot for WWAN or SSD.
If it's support what SSD M.2 model should i but 2242?
The additional slot referenced is in the E-dock expansion adapter - NOT the system. The system takes only one internal M.2 drive.
If you have (or purchase) the E-dock port adapter, you'll have the additional M.2 slot.
There's a small expansion slot labelled PCIE1x1 next to the longer slot in which I've installed a graphics card. What can the smaller one be used for? Can it for example hold an SSD? Thanks,Tom
Go to Solution.
OK, Yes that is the one that I was Refering to... There was some boards that could connect to that slot I don't see any ATM but they were non Controller systems Plug in and some would be found. Some wouldn't So I think they have done away with them... One with a Controller like the one in my picture here.... Can be used for SDD and also an extra HDD off it as well. They have others that are just SSD and some that have 2 spaces for SSD on the card but may not work for your space as they are longer cards. There are also some that offer SSD, SATA and exta ESata out the back... It is all up to what you want and how much you like to spend.http://community.acer.com/t5/Aspire-Desktops/TC-705-EB53-expansion-slot-question/td-p/411193/jump-to/first-unread-message

Ok, Sorry looking up the model at Kingston and a couple other sites didn't show your computer and seeing I hadn't seen any I was confused. Based on what I have found maybe a Model from other country. With that said it looks like it comes with 2gig DDR3L Ram and is Upgradable to 8Gig Also looks like yours comes With 1 PCI Express x16 Slot. I am not sure with the PSU and with that slot if you would be able to upgrade to a different Graphics Card. GPU and size of case would put a huge limit on what could be able to fit... Hi, I have 3 extra slots in my Motherboard and have a PC with 1 GB of DDR Ram which was replaced by this, im just wondering will the DDR ram work in a DDR2 slot?
No it will not and don't try it!
Ok Some may have seen some stuff I posted in the tech issues area about memory failure and fixing it I got two sticks of PNY Mhz mb DDR memory When I ordered them off of E-bay I specifically asked if the advertised memory was at least DDR slot / blues The DDR2 AGP mb He said yes I bought them with the little money I had sighs When I got them I realized that at for the deal including shipping that it was in fact a decent deal Now I realize one thing I need a motherboard upgrade Heck in fact a newer bit chip and I am opting for one of these AMD ATHLON X ENERGY EFFICIENT DUAL CORE The chip would work great with new DDR memory as it seems that s what DDR is essentially for Here s my boggle I have SCOURED the internet pricegrabber ebay pricewatch etc etc and I cannot find The DDR2 / AGP slot blues a motherboard that is fsb and has a built in AGP slot If you read the specs on my system in my personal data you will note the The DDR2 / AGP slot blues graphics card I use It s coughs AGP x If I could find a simple The DDR2 / AGP slot blues cheapo motherboard that has an agp slot runs Athlon x and could use my DDR memory then that would be awesome Bad news is the only thing I found that was close this http www digitan com au product php productid Is either in not in America or it s sold out From the spec details it looks like exactly what I need unless they make some funky PCI slot - - AGP adapter somewhere Any ideas Any advice Be gentle lol nbsp
I want to add an expansion card to a new Tower 3620. I can get the box open to access to chassis just fine, but how does this black plastic cover on the expansion slots work. Usually, newer motherboards have extra headers for connecting
the front panel connections.
Afraid graphics and network usually don't have header extensions,
but something like this can get audio/usb firewire up front.
You need to find one to match the headers.
USB is standard but audio can be standard or HD.

@Dr_Saiful?, welcome to the forum. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the computer. Beginning on Page 26 you will find the Workstation Specifications. In the specs it says that two video cards can be used as long as the required wattage is no more than 150W. I suspect that you may be exceeding the wattage of your power supply unit (PSU). I have Intel's D-915 processor, D102GCC2 Mob, 512 MB 533 Mhz DDR2 (UMAX)
I want to put another 1GB of DDR2 RAM in other slot. Can both work together well.
Also if I will go for 1Gb 667Mhz DDR2.. then ? Any problem..
If your motherboard is limited to 533 mhz then a 667mhz memory stick will be automatically underclocked to 533mhz, defeating the object of buying the faster ram. As for if 2 sticks of 512mb and 1gb work together side by side, I've never tried it but suspect it would work. If you get any problems, make sure you put the 1gb stick into the 1st memory slot (the slot your 512Mb stick is in at the moment) and put your old 512mb stick into the second slot. I remember reading that the CPU is happier running a bigger memory stick in the 1st slot. It may be an old wives talke, but its worth trying if you get problems.
I plan to upgrade my video card from geforce 9500GT to geforece GTS250.. my mother board model is gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P..
Powersupply? Just making sure...
i have a nvidia geforce 6200 256mb g-ram card which fits into the agp x8 slot.
when im in the middle of things say aim or the internet etc i get lost of red blocks and shapes flying all over the screen, if i move the card about a bit while switched on they do sometimes stop and all is back to normal, im not sure if this is to do with heating or the slot itself?
Something is loose.
This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past years of using computers I have an Acer Aspire - laptop that came with windows but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and won't mouse USB slot USB first other in works any slot, in only work but USB downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot it will refuse to work in the other USB slots I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer USB which is my favorite mouse and I USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot have of them at home When I was formatting the laptop USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot I had the mouse plugged into the first USB slot and now that is the ONLY slot it will work in If I plug it into the other usb slots the red laser will come on which means it's getting power but it will not move the cursor and clicking either of the mouse buttons won't do anything When I have the Device Manager open and I plug the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer mouse into the first USB slot the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will appear in BOTH the 'Human Interface Devices' tab and also the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab However when plugging the mouse into the other usb slots the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will only appear in the 'Human Interface Devices' but NOT the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab I could just go about my business using the first usb slot for the mouse but this little strange problem is pissing me off hugely as I might want to switch the mouse to another USB slot based on how I have the laptop positioned on a desk or other surface I should also note that the 'Human Interface Devices' tab has a 'HID compliant device' entry in it that isn't present on my desktop computer and my mouse works on any of the usb slots on my desktop computer I wonder if this is the problem I tried disabling this entry but it doesn't help any A final point to note is that I have many other usb devices such as flash memory sticks camera card readers external harddrives gps devices and they all work perfectly fine no matter which usb slot they are plugged into Very strange indeed Is there anyway to make my mouse work in any of the other USB slots
I have seen a similar problem, but it was all USB ports that weren't working.
First, check the BIOS to make sure all USB ports are enabled, which they probably are.
Are all drivers installed and up to date? Do any yellow question marks or exclamation points show up in Device Manager?
My current ram is DDR2 so will any DDR2 work?
Its best to match the speed at which you know your motherboard will operate.
Which motherboard (computer model number would suffice) do you have?
I have a old Pentium I board (runs on pentium up to 233mhz) that has both Dimm and Simm slots. Until now have only been using Simm but now tried to add some Dimm memory to that but the board only reads one or the other-- not both. Everybody keeps telling me that's normal-- use one or the other, but sounds like a lame answer to me. Ive had another board that used both -- why not this one?
Got one at work, can only use all dimm or all simm, not both. Not a lame answer, just the way it is, all mobo's are not the same. I have never seen one that uses both at the same time.
I installed Sims 2 and it worked fine. I purchased Glamor life and Family Fun Stuff and installed them as well. After I installed each of them, I checked it to see if it would run and they do. (I don't play the game it is for my daughter). However, only the last expansion pack will run.
For instance if I click on the family fun stuff shortcut it will prompt me for the Glamor life disk. If I insert the Sims 2 disk, it will prompt me for Glamor Life. I uninstalled Glamor life and now it prompts me for the Family Fun Stuff disk. I don't get why when I insert the disk it prompts me to install one from an application that I don't want to run.
I tried contacting EA games and spent three hours trying to register for support and got no where. Can anyone help me with
OK well with the Sims 2 you are only supposed to install the expansions in order and run the game off the last expansion disk you install. When you run the game it should have all expansion running. It's the same with Sims.
I'd stick with the NEC chipset for expansion USB 2.0 cards, here's an alternative: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815166002

i have a dell 8200 dimension and i bought a pci card to upgrade my computer to 2.0 usb port and it is not supported and it wont work as far as 2.0 speed. sorry for butting in to this thread but i was quite dissapointed. did i get the wrong info? and can i truly upgrade my machine?
Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread. I've created a new thread for your issue here. Thanks for your cooperation.
RE your issue: It would help if you told us what specific card you purchased, and what the exact symptoms are.
About months ago i purchased seagate TB expansion USB external hard drive all worked well apart from windows dont work 7 expansion 3tb with seagate windows not being able to see that hard drive to do a back up seagate 3tb expansion with windows 7 dont work which at this stage im not Concerned with this issue Now i have a Gb SSD with the same OS installed now i plug in seagate 3tb expansion with windows 7 dont work the external hard drive into a usb slot amp windows shows there is a seagate external hard drive connected as quot H drive quot but will not read it according to windows the driver is working properly i have uninstalled the usb driver amp reinstalled with no luck i have also tried to open up my computer management but it just freezes whilst i have the external hard drive pluged in i have also plug the external hard drive into all available usb slots with the same issue Now i took the extnernal hard drive into work amp pluged it into a windows XP works great so im now sure there is no problem with the external drive i have also downloaded all the seagate tools for the hard drive amp whilst the drive is plug into the computer the programs just freeze i have done extenive research online to try amp find a solution to this amp cant find anyone with the same problem except one on the seagates forum amp the seagate responed with its a windows problem i will post that link if needed i will upload some SS when i get home from work

yep as the title says, can ddr2 rams wif different mhz (eg. 667mhz and 800mhz) work on the same motherbaord simultaneously? thanks for the reply ^__^
If it does it all the RAM will run at the speed of the slowest. We just had a big discussion about this here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic100208.html
Post in that thread if you still have concerns after reading it. I'm going to close this to reduce (well prevent) crosstalk.
Will DDR 400 RAM work in a DDR2 800 standard motherboard?
Just curious if those new DD2 motherboard are backwards compatible for that older type of memory.
Welcome to Techspot!
It won't work @ all, because DDR400 RAM has 184 pins, and DDR2 RAM has 240 pins, and uses less voltage than DDR.
Will SDRAM work on a DDR2 Plug?
In a word no. Both use different dimm slots and are not compatible with each other.
I had to put my DDR3 memory in for warranty due to errors and I don't have memory for my main PC and I am just wondering my old PC has DDR2 memory and I was just wondering if the would work in my Gigabyte X58A-UD3R board which has DDR3 slots?
Also I was wondering can Windows 7 64bit run will less than 4GB of memory (2GB to be exact)? Because I know that if you have over 4GB of memory u need 64bit to enable all of it, but with less will it work?
I don't think you can because DDR2 and DDR3 uses different slow configuration. I think ddr2 has the little cut out in the middle and ddr3 has it slight forward but i'm not totally sure
I'm thinking of upgrading my computer's memory and video card.
My motherboard is ASUS A7V8X-X and I have 512 DDR RAM. The motherboard doesn't support DDR2 RAM (I'm buying 2x512 MB DDR), but the video card I want to buy (ATi Radeon X1550) has 256MB DDR2. Will this be a problem because it is DDR2? Does it matter what processor (AMD Athlon 64 XP 2400+) I have?
Pls answer, before I waste money -_-
hi, im looking to buy a new grpahics card for my comp. i was wondering will a nvidia ddr2 graphics card work on a motherboard that only hold ddr1 ram
thank you in advance,
Yep. Graphics RAM has absolutely nothing to do with System RAM.
OK... I know this has come up a lot, but I can't seem to find what the answer I am looking for.
I am trying to figure out if my motherboard: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum MS-7025 Motherboard http://us.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=587 Link for motherboard
Can run this graphics card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130419
I have searched in Google, and asked my friends and they could not tell me.
Please and Thank You
Is this considered value RAM? I bought 2gigs of it for $50, installed it and it is defaulting to DDR-667. Seemed like a steal at the time
I had to manually go into BIOS and up the voltage and increase the clock - It is now at DDR-800
And while were at it, newegg.com advertises this http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820134583
as SLI ready, but I do NOT see where you would hook up the SLI cable. Anybody?
Just a few kinks with the new build
From the newegg comments:
I feel as like I should clear up the confusion about this memory. This ram is programed to default to DDR2-667 at 1.8volts instead of the DDR2-800 at 2volts. This is because most motherboards default to 1.8v, and it would suck if you were trying to build a new computer and you couldn't boot because your memory only ran at 2v. That's why kingston made it so you can run it at 1.8v(although at a slower speed) and change it to 2v later. YOU NEED TO MANUALLY SET THE VOLTAGE TO 2VOLTS AND SPEED TO DDR2 800 @ 4-4-4-12 IN THE BIOS. If you don't do this then you are wasting good memory. If you don't believe me then read the data sheet here: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX6400D2LLK2_2G.pdfClick to expand...
So that makes sense...
Also I think your 2nd link is the same as your first
I have been working with apacer ddr2 800 mhz for awhile without any problems. I just wanted to have something faster so i bought a 4GB kit consisting of 2x 2GB corsair dominator that are suppost to work at 1066mhz at 5-6-6-18. But when i try setting it in bios to 1066 it shows me 1067.If i try that speed my latency jumps above the posted spec to 5-7-7-23. Are there any suggestions to what i should do?
what happens if you set the timings to auto? it all depends on the motherboard really... and since you were using ddr2 800 before, i would set the timings to auto and see what each module reads using CPU-Z. also, have you tried just setting it to 1065... just for kicks?
Basically need a cheap gpu with tv-out for movie playback,
Ive read that the 'ATI Radeon' cards have better tv-out than the equivallent 'Nvidia's so Ive decided to go with them
The card has to work in a PCI slot as the mobo has no agp.
I found a 'sapphire radeon 7000 64mb ddr PCI tv-out' ,
will this fit my needs? If not what will?

I have noticed a steady progression of either bad Dimm or Dimm slots. In the last 3-4 years as computers come to our shop I notice that people are complaining about lock-up problems and you go inside the machine and thump the ram chip and the machine will either reboot or give a hard lock-up. So my question is it bad ram contacts, bad slots or just cheap metals ? I have machines that are 8-10 years old and no ram problems at all that are still solid as a rock. The problem does not seem to be one certain manufacturer.
I am looking to upgrade my RAM to 4GB. Am I better off using 2 Dimm's @ 2GB or 4 Dimm's @ 1GB?
Thanks in advance!
Will an 8x video card work in a 2x agp slot? I currently have a Nvidia GeForce 256 32mb 4x card and want to upgrade to a GeForce 5200fx 128mb 8x. I have a 2x agp slot.

Hey out there, before I go out and buy a new motherboard(AGAIN) will my e-geforce 7300gt pci-e card work in my AGP 8xslot, if so is it worth doing or should I go out and get a PCI-e ready motherboard?
I'm new ish to tech talk about comps, i just build them with help from my professional buddies, so bare with me!!
Nope, completely different and incompatible slots. Can you exchange your vid card for an agp version? If not, then you will need a new mobo.
A friend of mine is upgrading his computer. He has an XFX 680i lt sli motherboard. What is better in RAM: 2gb at 800mhz or 4gb at 667mhz? He has XP. Also, should he get ECC ram, buffered ram, or normal ram? He wants to play games such as WoW, DIablo II, and maybe Crysis.
Four. You definitely notice a 100% difference in amount over 25% in memory speed - which isn't really noticeable anyway.
That mainboard uses normal DDR2 memory.
...can it be replaced with PC2 5300 DDR2 CL5 DDR2 SODIMM. Will my computer explode if I use it? It's a IBM Lenovo 3000, 1.5ghz, w/Intel Celeron M. Thank you
Go here and on the right,.. click Scan My System http://www.crucial.com/index.asp
i was looking at best buy's memory center thing online. So I choose my PC manufacture and model then under the specs it says:
bus architecture- PCI/AGP
Someone please tell me that means AGP cards will work on my system.
First of all, I want to say that you can never put a card into another designated slot. Do you know what motherboard model you have? You can find out by downloading this and opening the cpuz.exe file and then going to the mainboard tab. Mainboard = Another name for motherboard .
I posted this once before but didn't get it solved, so I figured I'd post it again:
I have a HP Pavilion ze4365us computer. I recently wiped the hard drive clean, and installed XP Pro (it came with XP Home). I got all new drivers from HP for everything. But the PCMCIA slot still won't work. When I plug my external wireless card into it, the card lights up, so I don't think it's the card, but the computer won't recognize the connection. Not sure what to do about the issue. It's kind of annoying, considering my internal card is busted also.
If you don't know how to solve this problem, then maybe you can recommend an alternate way of connecting wirelessly to the net. I have two USB 1.1 ports, and a firewire port.
The SD card reader slot on my Gateway laptop doesnt read my sd cards upon insertion. It is not the card, because I have tried multiple SD cards and they all do not work. There is no error message or anything, the drive just does not appear in my computer like it used to so that I can view the files on the card. I have had this problem previously, and it was fixed by repairing my texas instruments controller thing in device manager, but it is working ok when i look at it in device manager now without the slot working. Any help is appreciated!
got a while ago this mb and cpu.
runs all fine now.
but i got a 128 MB vid card.
Ati Radion 9200 or something similar.
how ever i got
K8NGM2-L (GeForce 6100 + nForce 410)
[Onboard 10/100 LAN]
is it that it has Nvidia chips on it. that is wont let me use my AGP ?
atleast there is some AGP slot.
and the card fits in.
also i checked Bios and did find something. that sounded like "Disable onBoard IF Video card is found."
or must i really drop one of those pci express vid cards in it to make it work ?
I just upgraded the video card in another computer with a new 8x 256 MB, the one I took out is an ATI Radeon 9800 pro 8x, Can I put this into my Dell Dimension that currently has a 64MB 4x i it right now. On the dell I am running one AGP 4x 64MB and one pci card 64MB. Will I see an improvement if the new card is compatible with my dual setup?
I use my keyboard in a USB slot, and my mouse in the basic PS2 slot.
Now I was just checking something on my GFX card at the back so I had to unplug everything from the PC. After I was done I plugged it all back in but for some reason my mouse wont work now. I tryed taking the PS2 connector off and using it in a USB (which I have none left so I cant do permanently) and it works fine.
I checked the mouse ps2 connector bit and it seems all the pins are fine in it.
Also when I plug it in, I hear the beep noise (the one you hear even without the speakers attached) so something must be happening.
But still no luck on the mouse working.
Can someone please help me.
Its ok I managed to get it fixed... somehow..
I HAVE A FX 5500 AGP 8X,MY MOTHERBOARD HAS AN AGP 4X SLOT,MY PC DOES NOT START when i plug this card in, i have a 230 w power supply is this the problem?
Please use proper thread titles from now on.
Hi. My laptop has 2 USB slots, 1 working perfectly fine, but another one has a problem. When I plugged a USB mouse or keyboard, nothing on screen happen. For the mouse, it light up but the cursor can't move. For the key board it doesn't light up and nothing happen. I tired flash drive, nothing happen too. BUT when I plugged an external hard drive, it work perfectly fine.
This problem just happen today, before both USB slots are working just fine. So now I can't use both mouse and keyboard at the same time
I've tried restart my computer, uninstall and reinstall all USB list in USB Controllers in Device Manager, nothing work so far
Thanks in advance
I'm thinking of grabbing a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Titanium Sound Card for Christmas as I am fed up of the distortion of bass from my onboard sound but there is a question which I am curious as to what the answer is...
Would the Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Titanium work better when slotted into a PCI-e x16 slot rather than the PCI-e x1 slot?
Cheers for your answers
No,it will just use the same contacts as the pci express 1 slot uses.
Although you could use it that way if you need the space.it's not
going to make any performance difference.
Need a quick suggestion before i seal the deal tomorrow.
I intend to buy the Radeon HD 5450. It has PCI-e 2.1 x16 bus interface.
My motherboard model is Foxconn WinFast NF4K8MC. It has PCI-e 1 x16 graphics slot.
My query is- will the graphics card work with this motherboard or not?
Kindly respond fast plz..
Thanks in advance,
I'm using a 5850 in a pci-e 1 x16
I see no reason why it wouldn't, though foxconn is not nearly as high end a board as the one I have.
that is to say the interface is backwards compatible.
I had installed windows xp professional as new and all the hp/compaq nc6000 drivers from the HP website. Everything works except the feature provided with the laptop the sd slot to copy data from doesn't. Before the new winxp installation, the laptop had winxp professional and by just inserting the SD chip the computer detected it. Then, it provided a letter for the drive to access files in the chip. Now, it does not see it at all. No indication of the chip when inserted in the computer. The chip is fine as I tested it with an external reader. There are no drivers if any listed that I could see on the HP support website for the SD chip. I have installed the usb, touch mouse/keyboard drivers. The SD slot does not read the SD chip. Please help
Hi guys i have a problem I switched my Soundblaster X-FI Titanium from its PCI-E x slot to the last PCI-E Slot on my Motherboard which is a PCI-E Slot anymore after PCI-E switch work dont Soundblaster x which can according to literature operate in X or X Mode Slot on the ASUS Z Pro The Lowest Slot before it was in the nd from the bottom The reason I did that is because I want to add Soundblaster dont work anymore after switch PCI-E Slot another Soundcard which otherwise Soundblaster dont work anymore after switch PCI-E Slot would be too close to my GEFORCE GTX and would compromise the airflow So as I said I switched the Slots Now I have problem making it work Does it mean I have to reinstall the Creative Drivers again Because some of the Applications like the Konsole Starter and Creative Sound Panel etc wouldn't recognize the card at the new PCI-E slot anymore I could still listen to music when I choose the Soundcard in my Media Player now marked -Creative Soundblaster instead of formerly just Creative Soundblaster Is that a general problem that was to be expected or is something else going wrong here Any help is appreciated Thank you Wolfseye
I reinstalled all Drivers etc from the Soundblaster Titanium. I can now choose the Card in Players such as Winamp or AIMP3 and enjoy the sound on my 5.1 Headphones. However, using it for any other Systemsound like the Browser with Youtube, i will only hear Bass Sounds in my Headphones. In settings from Creative, where I can choose the Bass Boost (Crossover Frequency), when having Systemsounds like in a Browser, when I have that activated (as I said) i only head Bass sounds. When I disable Bass boost (Crossover Frequency), i hear nothing. But when I click it again, for a millisecond I hear the normal sound again. But only for a millisecond.
Whats that issue ? Just because I switched the PCI-E slots for the card ? Really need help ! Thanks in advance.
Im throwing together a machine for my GF.. I have a processor but need to get a socket 478 mobo.. The one I was looking at uses DDR2-400 memory and I have some DDR2-800 memory sticks laying around..
Will it work ok to use the DDR2-800 sticks on a mobo that accepts DDR2-400 memory?
"Typically" you can run faster memory in a machine rated for slower memory - the memory simply runs ate the mobo spec. That said, memory issues are always subjective to the varying tolerances of the memory itself and the motherboard.
I just combined 333 and 266 rated memory in a laptop that's spec'd at 266 - it flies with no issues.
I think you'll have no problems.
Just make double-sure that all the other specs are identical such as voltage, both unbuffered, both unregistered, same latency/speed specs e.g. 2-5-5-5, hopefully both with or both without SPD (or maybe all memory come with an SPD these days?).
Try to run it with the memory, it won't cause any damage. If you start getting errors/crashes, you know it doesn't work.
I have a 1GB stick of pc4200 (533mhz) ram in my comp at the moment, which is an AMD dual core w/ a 2000mhz MT FSB, in an AMD M2N4-SLI motherboard. Im wondering whether it would be better to start off by buying pc6400 (800mhz) RAM or sticking with what i have, the question is would 4 sticks of RAM running at 533mhz which adds up to 2132mhz total (533mhz x 4sticks) be the same as 4x sticks of pc6400 since the FSB would handle them running the same speed (3200mhz total, much greater than the fastest the FSB can run which is 2000) is having the more powerful ram better if i have so much that the FSB cant handle the speed? Im not really knowledgable in this field so i thought id ask the pros.
heres a link to the motherboard:http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=101&l3=323&model=1266&modelmenu=1
are they interchangeable?
if my board has DDR2, can i use the ddr2 dual channel?
I just purchased 4GB G.Skill DDR2 1066 MHZ RAM and installed it into my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H). I have tried fixing the problem by readjusting the vdimm voltage to 2.1 volts after reading on the G.Skill website that 2.1v is compatible with most motherboards. After doing so, I tried to change the settings in my BIOS to manual so i could reconfigure the RAM to a 1066 mhz option but the max still only shows as 800. Please help me out if you know any way i can change the frequency to the 1066 mhz my ram is actually supposed to be .
I'm looking to upgrade replace my current 2x2GB DDR2-667 modules with 2x2GB DDR2-1066 modules in a couple days but I'm wondering if I really need that!
I mainly write software and run linux on virtualbox on that particular machine and so far everything works really well but I'm looking forward to game a little on it as well, after a video card upgrade of course!
So, would I get like a reasonable performance increase with those ddr2-1066 modules or should I just forget about them and keep my current setup?
Does your motherboard support the DDR2-1066?
i have an old laptop which has 4 gigs DDR2 using 2 channels, is there any adapter or linker which would allow me to connect my laptop memory to my desktop sized slot
Yes. See Adapter / Tester : Laptop DDR2 200 pin SODIMM RAM to desktop DDR2 240 pin DIMM RAM: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessorieshttp://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/250078-ddr2-laptop-desktop-ddr2.html
I m trying to figure out if my problem is my graphics card EVGA GTX GB or my motherboard Biostar TZ A LGA This computer is a brand new build Please click my system specs for more details I have two PCI-E slots There is one x slot and one x slot of the time my machine freezes a few seconds after powering card in work, in Graphics x4 ?? fine works x16 PCI-E doesn't the slot on at the Graphics card in PCI-E x16 doesn't work, works fine in the x4 slot ?? BIOS logo screen or a few seconds after that while inserted in the x slot Sometimes it works however yet it is so infrequently that I ve given up on the x slot for now It will even freeze after I ve entered my BIOS settings page even just while browsing around in it The same graphics card in my PCI-E x slot works fine if you ignore the fact that it s running at it s potential speed At least I can boot the machine up I ve spoken with a few different professionals about this and the conclusion is that my problem lies either a with my PCI-E x slot or b with my GTX Apparently the graphics card COULD work just fine in the x slot and still be damaged Now I know that you re going to tell me to try a different card in my computer or try the card in a different computer However that isn t practical for me at the moment I was wondering what you guys think or if anyone has experience with this first-hand What are you leaning towards Mobo or Gfx card nbsp
Should also have mentioned that I've run three passes with Memtest86 without any errors.

Sure sounds like the socket is bad, or the memory controller. You may have to live with a single DIMM in the bottom slot.
I own a not show slot doesn't working, IPMA PCI and also work sound as year old years months Gateway FX series top of their line then running Vista I PCI slot and IPMA show as not working, sound also doesn't work have a Creative Sound Blaster XFi sound card Everything was fine The sound card stopped working all of a sudden I did a system restore No help several days back I deleted the driver and had the system find it to reinstall No help I reloaded the driver after downloading from the website No help I plugged in another set of speakers to the sound card No help I noticed that in Device Driver the com port is fine as is the sound card The PCI slot under other devices has yellow exclamation point as does the IPMA Gateway wants me to reset the computer to factory fresh I really don t want to do this - the work would be terrrible for me I find that Gateway always wants you to do this but before I did I wanted to ask for ideas here Please any thoughts will be appreciated gteam nbsp
1) List any Problem Devices
Make sure devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so
2) Generate and attach a DirectX report
Click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)
3) Did you try uninstalling the old driver before reinstalling? Look in Ctl Panel->Programs and Features, see if audio driver there and uninstall it
4) You might also try looking through / See if this might help Reference Guide to Help Setup and Troubleshoot Windows Audio and Sound Cards
I just got a Asus A8N-SLI mother board and a pny 7800gt video card. The card only works in the bottom pci express slot though, when i try to plug into the top the monitor light keeps blinking like nothings going through. Everything seems to work fine when in the bottom slot but i am worried about the heat. I have my sound card close to that so theres not much flow between like their would be in the top slot. (also the top slot is blue, bottom is black, if that makes a difference) I left the default set at single card mode on the motherboard. Also being in that slot is the card running at full capacity? 16x?
My other specs are:
1gb Corsair value select ram
Antec 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 PSU
AMD 64 3700
mmm... Check out the BIOS option for the SLI cause it could be that just one slot is enabled (the bottom on)...
about the heat issue... can you move the sound card to another slot?...
I have a HP Pavillion a200n, windows XP

You didn't mention the jumpers. How did you set them?

My opinion ...
Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.
The motherboard has onboard sound (RealtekŪ ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.
I just realized I have some extra ram laying around. Here is the question. I was wondering if [email protected] with my AMD 9950 Black Edition OC'ed to 3ghz would be better than [email protected] with my CPU stock at 2.6ghz. I play things like WoW and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Mostly new stuff.
Definitely better off with just 4Gb, and having your CPU OCed than to have 8Gb, and running stock.
The difference probably is minimal anyway.
This is a different scenario if you do alot of photoshopping or RAM intensive stuff, those games won't take up gobs of RAM.
I am building my new computer soon and i am juggling between going with 4GB of DDR2-1066 ram or DDR2-800.
My question is this. Is DDR2-1066 worth paying extra for? How much of a performance gain is there?
Either way, i will be going with 4GB of Corsair XMS2 memory.
Actually selecting between 800 and 1066 RAM in the same brand doesn't present to terrible price penalty.
For 5 bucks more I'd go with the DDR2 1066. That's whether I could tell the difference or not.
Truth is, DDR2 10666 generally runs @ 2.0 volts or better, if you set the BIOS @ 1.8 (the generic DDR2 voltage), it's liable to default to 800Mhz anyway.
