Preferred Solution: how to check faulty mobo & graphic card?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: how to check faulty mobo & graphic card?

You can test RAM with memtest 86+
A motherboard is difficult to diagnose at home. If something isn't working and you suspect hardware, you swap parts until you isolate the broken item.
What did they say was wrong?

Please don't apologize when posting - it's annoying.

I have tried every single solution to fix my AMD R7 M260 video card, but it seems that it does not work. I have tried to install win 8.1 , because I saw a lot of complains about this video card drivers on Win 10, but this did not help. I installed different drivers from different sources, but nothing helps.

Now I have left with only one option. My video card is faulty.

Maybe you have some advice how I could prove that this video card is faulty or it does has bad drivers?

Is there any way of checking the health of my graphics card. I have a Radeon 4870 that is less than a year old. About 2 weeks ago it was working fine for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (COD:MW2), however having not played since then I tried it again today and game play is extremely stuttery, even offline.

My testing has been off-line, I have even taken the resolution down to 800 x 600 and put the GFX on lowest settings, I still get lag. Online is even worse.

The only PC changes I can think of making is changing the system virtual memory (I was testing video editing settings) however I have since changed this back to System managed and this still hasn't fixed the problem .

I have only COD:MW2 to test the GFX card witha t the moment since no other games are installed.

Hello I recently posted on this forum after having issues with my computer not booting Then the PSU literally blew up a day later Old System Specs Q MSI P N Diamond Silverpower sp w has good reviews just not well known Corsair GB HD The issue I had was turn on pc everything lights up but GPU fan spins at full speed as if it was getting no power or connecting to motherboard G-card will not boot at all I did however find a very strange work around To boot the machine I had to remove the pin CPU power on the motherboard Turn the machine on but no boot Turn it off and replace CPU power Turn machine back on and everything works perfectly So It seems that the card can never boot up from cold If I re-started it worked fine I now have a new motherboard cpu RAM and PSU Both motherboards work perfectly with my tester g-card New PC Parts I k Gigabyte GA-Z X-UD P-B Corsair TX w V The new one fails to boot at all even with various different power cables removed I cannot RMA card as it is No works fan kinda speed boot, card? mobo faulty on other - - full 5870 second-hand BY using my 5870 No boot, fan full speed - kinda works on other mobo - faulty card? trick on the old motherboard it works perfectly so the card actually works It s just having big issues accepting power to 5870 No boot, fan full speed - kinda works on other mobo - faulty card? boot Would flashing the g-card bios help This quote is from an article about flashing the g-card bios It seems to sum up my issue the video BIOS initializes the card As soon as it receives power from the motherboard the BIOS activates the card and identifies itself to the motherboard BIOS In short the video BIOS starts and identifies the card and provides its initial crop of settings However if I can get any advice on other things to try out then I will happily do them The PSU s are not at fault as There is the same issue with a new Antec PSU and my brand new Corsair TC w which is supposed to be one of the dogs bollox of PSU s Thanks in advance for your reply Ivan G-S nbsp

Welcome to the world of custom building lol, my computer has similar problems that if i have had it turned off for more than 5 minutes it will not boot and keeps bluescreen until i do a clean boot with a power drain, my solution to that is do just set the bios on the MB to use a 1W standby and leave it in sleep mode always (reboot it every so often)

I'm buying a new motherboard (Asus A8R-MVP) and was wondering if my graphics card will fit with it?

Here's a picture of the motherboard I want to get. The graphics card I got (HIS ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB PCI-E X16) can't fit in my current motherboard because the power connecter is in the way so I have to buy a new mobo . The graphics card I got is pretty long! In the picture of the mobo I want, do you think that the silver heatsink will get in the way of the graphics card? (I'm not going to run crossfire by the way) here's a picture of the mobo in a angle.

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of building a new PC:

1. My budget is around 2,000 (US $)

2. Configuration:
Cabinet- Thermotake Level 10 GT.
MB- Asus Sabertooth X79.
CPU- i7 2600 (because i can't afford the higher ones right now).
Graphics- MD Radeon HD 6950.
HDD- Western Digital 2TB.
Monitor- ViewSonic 24" LED VX2450WM.

3. First question,does Asus Sabertooth X79 support i7 2600?
Second, What about the Graphic card?

4. I would highly appreciate it if you guys can tell/advice/suggest me if the config is alright or not.

A:Mobo, CPU and graphic card compatibility question

Graphics card will work but the CPU won't. you need either of these CPU's.
SandyBridge (SB) was never designed to be a replacement for X58 but a replacement for LGA 1156. Due to some of the architecture design changes, the CPU is size changed so it is no longer compatible with the LGA 1156 or X58. The X58 is still considered Intel's Highend Setup until the X79 was released.

The issue Intel has created is that the performance of the SB is so good, it has made both previous platforms obsolete in terms of price to performance. There is no need to purchase a 2011 socket setup and the X79 is only king on high resolution multiple card setups (high level multi-tasking / CS5 / AutoCAD work is ruled by the i7 980X) due to the lack of bandwidth restrictions.

If you don't plan on running dual cards or over 1920x1200 resolution, than IMO the SB is the way to go!

How do I check graphic card health using Win 7 Repair disk?

I have a black screen during start up issue. I posted a thread (long story)

Win 7: Black screen on boot up, before login screen?

As this community, provided guidance on my thread. I created a Win 7 repair disk using another computer with Win 7, 64 bit.

I have Lenovo Z580 with pre-installed on board graphics. Integrated graphic card Intel HD4000.

I am able to access my computer only through win 7 Repair disk.

Before going into clean install, I like to test the health of graphic card Intel HD4000.

How do I do that using win 7 Repair disk/command line?

I want to do the same for Memory/RAM as well. Win 7 repair disk Memory diagnostic also leads to black screen.

Are there any tools/freeware to do that?

Thanks for helping/sharing.

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

I recently acquired a toasted pc from a friend that wanted me to get it running. With the stock psu it turns on for a minute and shuts off again and automatically restarts. So I tried changing the psu with an evga 500w psu I had for a gaming build I'm trying to save up for and it still does the same thing,I've cleared CMOS twice, tried it without RAM does the same thing. It has the Pegatron M2N78-LA motherboard and was wondering if that was the issue. When it turns on it doesn't send any signal to the monitor,so that's kinda what I'm basing my guess off of.

Please post your BSOD stop errors. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions
Are you using any USB hubs? If so stop for now and plug directly to the PC. Do you know what kind of power supply is in the machine?

I honestly don't know where to start it could be anything. Power Supply, Memory, HDD, GPU. Random freezes may be attributed to faulty RAM on some occasions.

Testing RAM requires A LOT of time. You will need a USB drive. Please download metest86 and install it onto a your USB flash drive. I recommend to leave it running overnight for a minimum of two passes, however I personally suggest 4 passes. If any errors occur let me know. If no errors occur please follow on to the next step.

Only after step one has been done try doing a system file check. Please follow Option one on this tutorial. SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8
Does SMART report anything unusual or warnings concerning your storage devices?

Remove one GPU, go on with normal activity see if anything changes. If nothing changes swap the GPU but only one will remain in the system at a time.

If any instructions are unclear which could very well be let me know.

I tried to turn on the pc and it starts up and is on for about 3-5 seconds then just goes dead. The screen doesn't display anything throughout this time. I have checked the hd on a seperate pc and that is not the problem. It keeps going through this process everytime i try and turn it on, on for a couple of seconds then just switches off. it was running smooth before this happened, no probs at all.

i thought it mite be a faulty heatsink that triggers the failsafe on the cpu and causes it to turn off b4 it burns out. however, i don't won't to buy a new one only 2 realise its something else. any suggestions...

A:Faulty mobo, heatsink or PSU??

Heatsinks can't be faulty since they are a chunk of metal, but they can be installed backward or the latches that hold them can break off or the fans can fail.

I'd try another power supply after making sure the heatsink hasn't come loose.

that IRQL thing is supposed to be a IRQ conflict issue, or that you have bad drivers or hardware. I got a similar screen on my DFI Lanparty Ultra II A and it went away after disabling all onboard devices and doing a clean reinstall. after the reinstall, i enabled everything that i use again, and it detected it fine and runs great.

I'm not sure how your hard drive is configured, or if you have capability of backing up your data and the patience to do so, but if you could, i would reinstall. Maybe someone else has a more immediate fix, i'm not sure...

I put in a spare power supply I had thinking his power supply had died and that wouldn't start power up either.
I'm thinking that either the motherboard is dead or the switch on the case is faulty.

Hello Poli I know you have checked out the PSU but please do this in my little ditty and post back a pic of the PSU voltage rails
Using HW Info
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT is a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
See this for the rail voltage info,3061.html (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.

Use PART A: and as an option you can use a digital multimeter and test the volts on the 24 pin board plug see this for the colour codes (scroll to the bottom) use the black lead to any black cable the red lead to the different rails.

Also the board is relatively old too mate so don't be surprised if it has or is going south.

So i just Put together a brand new computer with a Core Duo E and an Asus P B-E Mobo I turned it on for the first time and went into the Bios to monitor temperature There I discovered the cpu temp was degrees C All fans are running correctly and the heatsink fan was installed correctly I turned the computer off as soon as possible to ponder this problem I came accros this article in my research http www techimo com forum t html basically it says that the Mobo was reading the temp on the cpu wrong I went back and turned on my computer for about Minute untill the temp hit c then I touched my heatsink and it felt about room temperature maybe a little cooler So my question is Could this board have a screwy temperature gauge Or is my Mobo overclocking my cpu right outta the box Thanks for any help you can contribute nbsp

A:a mobo that automatically overclocks? or just a faulty Temp Gauge

Well, that thread did say that the mobo has temp sensor problems.

btw, I don't think its possible to get your heatsink to below room temp . It is just physically impossible. The reason why it feels that way is because metal is a much better heat conductor than air, and therefore is conducting away your body heat faster than the air around you, thus feeling colder.

Just a little info for you
Core2Duos have a max operating temp of 66C or something like that, the last time I checked. In fact, no Intel chips for PC have a max operating temp of over 70C (maybe a couple) the last time I checked, so if its registering 85C, your CPU is ready to explode or your mobo sensor is stuffed up.

I'm betting your mobo sensor is stuffed up.

If you're still worried, time to get an aftermarket CPU heatink+fan. Then you might be able to do some overclocks as well

My computer is running quite well but I have a problem with freezing when I run the "Check Disk" checking tool. The whole computer seizes up and I have to use the Restart button to begin again. This happens each time that I run "Check Disk". I have XP Home OS. Everything else seems to work OK though. I also have Norton System Works Pro which has several utility tools that check the disk, the system and the registry and all these work well so this has got me stumped. The box that has to be ticked to run "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is the problem and not the other choice.
Hoping someone can help me out?

A few months ago I started having an odd problem with my graphics. The best way I can describe it is random color pixels (white, blue, and red mostly) that appear mostly in mov, avi, photoshop, paintshop. things of that nature. In graphics programs such as photoshop solid lines will show up when I create a graphic. Normal display and games seem to be unaffected.

I installed a new radeon 9800 128 agp which seemed to fix the problem but now instead of large chunks its tiny color pixels that flash randomly in the above formats. Again regular display (websites, desktop ect) and games seem unaffected.

Drivers are all up to date and I have the latest version of directX. System is adware and virus free.

My system is:

Abit NF7 nforce 2 mobo (grphx card disabled)
Athalon xp 3000+ (2.16 ghz)
Kingston 512 Duel RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 128 AGP
Maxtor 120 Gig HD

Any ideas would be appreciated, ive run out.

Hi,Just a quick question.I just purchased a new Radeon R7 360 as an upgrade to my Radeon HD 6670 and placed it in the same PCIe slot on my board and it doesn't seem to work. The fans come on, windows boots (hear logon sound) but there is no display. When I switch my old GFX card in it works fine. Any ideas as to why this might be happening would be helpful. Many thanks.

Probably a chip fault but is it worth taking the heatsink off an reapplying paste ?

Got this corruption in my display after about 2-3 hours of MW2 last night. This is the worst it's been so far, started as missing or incorrectly colored textures, started getting video lag during that session last night and then what you see in the picture.

This seems to have started when I built my new system but I think that may be because the old one wasn't PCIe 2.0 so it never really stressed the card...

A:Is my graphics card faulty

I do not believe your graphics card is in need of a change. That is just an operating system thing. When a window or folder screen is opened- It usually opens the same way it was closed. The graphics card is not an issue- unless your seeing things that are not supposed to be there like black lines or such.

is this probably a faulty graphics card then ? :S

Hi I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on this - I bought a second hand ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb vga card. Various artifacts appear onscreen from the moment the system posts, which makes it pretty much unusable. ONE TIME I booted up and it was completely without problems with perfect display. My question is, could this problem be caused by an inadequate power supply - It's only 235watts, or have I definitely got a fried card (my old card sitll works fine). I have tried unplugging all drives except the hard drive to see if it reduced drain on the psu, but same problems sitll occur. The rest of my system is old and therefore I presumed wouldn't need too much power, so I thought the psu might be enough. if it is the card, is there anything that can be fiddled about with to repair graphics cards? thanks

A:Faulty vga card or psu too weak?

Your PS is under powered. That could be the problem. But since it did seem to work fine once make sure it is firmly seated in it's slot. Of course no way to know about second hand products. Was it definitely working before?

It plays sometimes but then i go to minimize it and re open it and its only in one small corner of the screen. I have all the codecs plus driver updates. The only way it works well is wehn i turn the acceleration down to none. ALthough the screen is very blurry when it is full screen. I have also brought it to the shop and they "couldnt find anything".

The only thing i can think is faulty card and they do not wanna play for a new one. It is integrated int he motherboard.

Oh specialized support!

I believe it's your video card itself
I have a 512Meg that even has issues sometimes

I think you're best to uninstall it fully
Turn off
Detach the card gain
If you have onboard video, start with that
Turn on
Then use Driver Sweeper to remove any leftovers
Actually even run CCleaner
Turn off
Install your (clean) Addon video card
Re-install the latest drivers again

I think my newly bought NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS graphics card is faulty. Is there any signs or ways to test whether it is or not.

The reason I think it's faulty is because I had a pretty messed up PC about two weeks after installing it. I eventually had to reinstall the old card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200) and do a full system recovery (reverting back to the factory setup). Without the 7600 everything seems to be working as it should.

The low level functions of the video card use a vga vesa driver
that does not activate the hardware accelleration.
The problems you ar e having when the driver loads indicates
bad hardware and not a driver problem.
Being as it is a 6800 go card,it is probably replacable.
It would need to be replaced with the exact same type of card,
but not necessarily the same model.
If you want to try a newer driver, you would need to uninstall the old

Hi there For a few weeks now i have had a few BSOD's One being irql_not_less_or_equal_too

But that i have tracked down to a faulty graphics card which the manufacture has now replaced (Ati 5870 Hd)

The machine seemed to be running fine and then last night i got
" A driver has overrun a stacked based buffer "

I am running an I7, with Gigabyte 333 Mobo and 6gb Of tripple channel ram

The machine is overclocked to 4.0ghz (Not done by myself done by overclockers)

This new Bsod has come after installing the new graphics card and happened while i was playing blackops.

I have attached the latest MiniDump file. and the Last minidump file before the new graphics card.

I have run Memtest for 17 passes and 0 Failures.

I am probably going to run a benchmark for a while see if i can replicate.

Any ideas ?????

A:Faulty Graphics card replaced and Still Getting BSOD

Please provide this information:

Next, please stop the overclock and return the system to default values. Test to see if this stops the BSOD's. If the BSOD's continue, we'll suggest some other tests. The overclock is very radical (2.800 to 3.822 gHz) and is (IMO) most likely the issue here. Since you passed MemTest I'd have to suspect that some overclocked component of the motherboard is causing the BSOD's.

Although limited to only 2 memory dumps, here's what I've found:
2 different BSOD error codes blaming the kernel (core of the OS). If this was the case, I'd expect more errors than just the occasional BSOD - so something else must be to blame.

This may be the start of a pattern indicating a hardware problem, so I suggest starting with these free diagnostics (skip MemTest as you've already run it):

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics: (read the details at the link) (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: (read the details at the link)

I am particularly concerned about the age of your USB 3.0 controller drivers. Please disable the device and remove the drivers to test and see if that's the cause.

Beyond that, the problem can also be caused by incompatible or corrupted drivers. Please do the following:
- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall/remove them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers:

Please help,
One day when I was playing a game, the text-
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
-came up in the corner of my screen, freezing my screen. From here, I uninstalled the NIVIDIA 960m graphics and the computer worked just like before. I tried reinstalling the drivers from the dell website and the NIVIDIA website, but halfway through the installer, it would crash. Forcing my laptop into some torment that could only be solved by deleting the NIVIDIA driver I had just installed.
Dell help, I am an engineering that usually knows how to solve these problems, but when I ask for your help you want to charge me 160$ for you to do it. Please help, please.
Anyone with similar issues please leave a comment saying you do so we can better grab the attention of a dell associate.

by that picture it looks like the drivers haven't installed properly, even though they are the same card you still need to put both CD's in when you install it, go back to device manager and update drivers by pointing it to the CD for that card

A:video card/graphic card reboot problem

boynamedanurag Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about booting and video card problems and wanted to help. So, if I understand what you're saying, you reinstalled Win7 and the PC boots OK, right? But when you then install a video driver and reboot, it does not boot, right? My guess is that you have one of the old DV6 laptops that has two video chipsets, something called Switchable Graphics.  And the problem with that is that only the HP OEM video drivers will work on that laptop.  IF you install other ones, such as the ones you get from AMD or Nvidia, they will NOT work -- which sounds like what is happening to you. What DOES work is restoring your PC using HP Recovery Media because that will contain the HP OEM drivers.  Media. This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks.  You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update".  If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entty and click on Order Media for details.Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Can you change a laptop video card/graphic card?

I looked in a shop and they said "a laptop graphic card can not be changed."

Can a laptop graphic card be changed??
(Nvidia geforce go 6150)

Please help
With many thanks,

A:Can you change a laptop video card/graphic card?

Unless the laptop has onboard graphics, there is no reason why the card can't be changed.

Of course, I am not very knowledgeable with GFX cards, so I can't necessarily tell whether is has onboard graphics or not.

A:BSOD after playing Skyrim - faulty graphics card?

To check the graphics card and your hardware:If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!
For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.
Also, STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

And make sure the system has good airflow and the graphics card does not have dust built up in the fans. Also check that no power cables are blocking the graphics card fan from spinning.

When i connect the card in sli or by itself in the same slot my older card was in and turn on the power then computer will switch on for about a second then switch back off again. If the press the button again the computer wont even switch on at all until i take the card out.I cant understand what is causing this unless the card is faulty. I have a 700 watt power supply which should be sufficient for both cards and more than enough for the newer card by itself so i dont think the power supply is the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:improvement of graphic card (video card)

serzh_shumkov Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wanting to upgrade the graphics on your laptop and wanted to help. Sorry for the bad news, but you are operating under a misunderstanding.  Unlike desktop PCs, laptops do not use video "cards"; instead, they use video chips that are permanently attached to either video modules, or to the laptop system board.  These are not customer-replaceable parts.

A:What is the diffret in a video card / graphic card?

A video card and a graphic(s) card are the same thing. What you have now is an integrated graphics card. Integrated graphics cards have terrible performance. Now, we need to know whether your motherboard has a PCI-E or AGP slot. Download CPU-Z , take screenshots of the tabs called "CPU" and "Mainboard" and post them here.

They should look something like this (the information and logo will be different):

I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

Are these the same thing? I have an old Dell (as you can see), but I like it. I was told that I could improve its performance by adding a video card. When I look them up, I see pictures of odd-looking devices that in no way resemble a "card." I can only find 2 that will work with this computer. Does that seem right?

A:Video card vs graphic card?

"Video Card" and "Graphics Card" are the same thing.

There are 4 different versions of the 745. A "minitower", a desktop, a Small Form Factor and an ultra small form factor. Which one do you have? It makes a difference for a video (graphics) card.

The minitower will take a PCIe type video card. With the small power supply that can limit you (if this is the model you have). The others versions are even further restrictive as they will require "low profile" type cards.

ASRock has issued BIOS updates for several mobos with a simple comment "improves memory compatibility." For me, that turned out to be a solid fix for my Intel-based mobo that had intermittent USB 3.0 detection problems on specific devices. Now, they all are recognized as USB 3.0 100% of the time. Check for BIOS updates here:

i got 2 graphics cards

nvidia alladin tnt2 16mb

and ati radeon 7000 64mb

this radeon cost me $50!

andnot sure bout the otherone it was onboard

would the nvidia one work faster than ati??

A:which graphic card should i use..

Hi Deathdealer:

The Radeon has 64 MB, compared to the 16 MB of the Nvidia, so your Radeon would be a better card.

Hope that helps!

So, i was thinking that i want to buy a new graphic card for my computer.
My computer is very small Acer aspire x1301 <--- I don't know where is the processor and where is the graphic card and does the new graphic card even fit inside?

A:How i set up my new graphic card?

Hello Vincent,

That big fan is covering the CPU. The graphics card is the long card in the upper right corner of your picture (also where you plug your monitor into... you can follow it to the inside of the computer).

From what I can tell, it would appear your computer supports PCI-e x16 GPUs (Graphics cards).

Your specs are here:

You will need a low profile card, which means it cannot be very big.

Hope this helps
