I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi all i m new to the site I m a young computer technician and i specialize more in desktop computers rather than laptops but i ve been getting many laptops this days I got here a dell inspiron problem is that when powering on screen gets beige is not white or gray but beige theres no image there rather than that color if i plug in a monitor 8000 Beige inspiron on Dell Screen i can perfectly see dell logo and etc there but nothing on the laptop screen i ve checked the connections in the video card which is an ATi one and there s no scratches or cuts or anything visibly damaged i took the screen out and everything is connected just that a yellow tape that sticks the video data cable to the back of the screen is slightly removed as i know from the owner he took it to another tecnician before for other problem this guy screwed it Beige Screen on Dell inspiron 8000 up more returning it with the screen this way anyway i was wondering is this screen damaged for good taking the fact that cables look good and that i have video in the monitor output or could there be a problem with the ATi card connector doesn t look in bad shape either Thanks for any comment nbsp

A:Beige Screen on Dell inspiron 8000

sounds to me like the backlight has gone. Try looking at the screen under both bright and low light to see if you can see an image - if you can this would confirm the diagnosis.

I have a dell inspiron laptop 8000 model no, pp01x.
When I turn on my computer;the Dell sign comes on but the screen goes blank.
When I hold a flashlgiht to the screen, I can see the screen.
nothing loads and when my options appear(safe mode, last configuration, or regular mode) nothing happens if I press anyone of them. It just keeps restarting.

A:dell inspiron 8000 black screen/no boot

u can try connecting an external monitor from a desktop if u have one or borrow one and see if that monitor shows anything without problems.it sounds to me that your monitor on the laptop has gone bad.. the led modules that light it up have gone bad or your video card might be bad.it could also be that the motherboard or hard drive is failing.usually if just the monitor is bad it should load up with no problems.hope this helps u.

Hi. I'm currently having some problems with my Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop computer. For a while now, the screen flickered constantly, so i had to tilt the display to get a clear picture for the moment. However, now the screen goes completely white when i boot up. I've tested Windows by connecting the laptop to my TV via an S-Video cord, and it works fine. There's something wrong with the display... Does anyone know how to fix it? THanks in advance.

A:Dell Inspiron 5000 White Screen

Hi-

My name is John, and I work at Dell headquarters.

If you don't see the problem when hooked to an external display, that pretty much rules out the video card. The only thing you can really try is reseating the video cable, but if that doesn't work, you'd probably be looking at a new display.

Here is a link to the service manual. The second section should show you how to replace the display (and in that, you should see how to reseat the cable):

A:DELL INSPIRON 1564 , Screen goes white blank

I bought Inspiron 1564 around 6 months ago. The problem which I am having for the last 3-4 months is that the screen goes completely white when the laptop is powered ON or when watching videos on youtube, media player or switching screens too fast (b/w full screen and normal mode in a movie) or when Windows 7 asks for permission to execute any installation prog.
Firstly I thought it is a Windows related issue. I searched a lot of forums but no success. Updated Video Drivers from Intel, Dell to the latest time to time, but no result.
Couple of days ago, I realized that the screen goes white in the Setup menu (F2) as well, showing that it is hardware related. Occasionally, some lines appear on screen during Windows boot (like in case of VHS when video tape is too old).
I got some hope after reading above post. Can anyone help ? Specs are as under

You have to purchase compatible RAM. Go to www.crucial.com, and allow it to scan your system to determine what options are available.

You can install Windows XP. I doubt it would run Vista well.

i have a friend who has a Dell Inspiron 8000. I can't figure out where to put a wireless card. I do not see any slots for it. Does anyone know if a wireless card can be used with this model? I don't think it had built in wireless. Seemed to old for that.

Thanks for your help

A:Dell Inspiron 8000 Can it be wireless?

According to the specs of that Inspiron, it has two PC card slots on the side of the case....somewhere usually on the right side toward the back of the computer. And no, it's not wireless built in.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/plav/sm/specs.htm#1000450

It could use a PCMCIA wireless card.

Which brand of hrad drive should I buy?

If I get max RAm (512mb) and max hard drive (GB's) would it be

Someone I know just recently gave me an Inspiron 8000 but he says the hard drive is messed up. I try to turn it on and it has the Dell loading screen, then the screen goes black, but then it just going back to the loading screen. It does that process over and over. The hard drive does make a suspicious clicking sound every time the screen goes black. The original OS was Windows ME but I'm not sure what it is now. Should I risk $60 (on newegg) and buy a new hard drive? What should I do?

A:Dell Inspiron 8000 problems

if it si merely the hard drive that is bad. ( and it definitely sounds like the HD is toast) you should get a boot up message about no boot device found etc.

try accessing the bios during boot up, if you can then replacing the hard drive should give you are workable laptop. if he didnt give you the dell xp disk your goiing to need a copy of windows.

This is first post, so please excuse any display of ignorance from me.

I know that the hard drive is bad. It will not let me boot up to try and recover data. Last resort is to send to a data recovery specialist.

If the drive is cool, it will try to boot, but it is looking for a corrupted file, "ntoskrnl.exe" in the \System32 dir (Win 2000 Pro). Is there a way I can transfer this file onto the drive?

I have tried to Repair with the Dell reinstall CD, it does not work. It hangs up during the checking C:\ drive portion. I tried it under the Console Recovery and same thing. Also tried the "fixboot"; it did not do anything for me.

Any Suggestions?

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm replacing the 10Gb HD on my old Dell Inspiron 8000 with a new 80Gb HD (both HDs are Hitachi Travelstar).

I was planning on cloning the present HD to my Maxtor 320Gb External HD, and then cloning that to the new 80Gb HD using Maxtor MaxPlus.

I'd appreciate any advice (particularly if there are better ways than I'm planning) on exactly how to do this. And will it be a problem cloning down from the larger external HD to the smaller new HD??

Hey Nelly,

i'm on my way out for today, but i can tell you this, check out for the inspiron 8000 specifications maybe on the manual if you have it or else, in the internet. I guess 8000s use 3com network cards(not completely sure), so what you need for get that card running is the driver software. If it is a common 3com you can find it here http://www.network-drivers.com/companies/294.htm or else, if it is not a 3com card check out the list at www.network-drivers.com for the right card brand you have.

A:Dell Inspiron 15 Screen Power setting keeps resetting to 15 minutes

Hi PYROSADIE,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system?
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://bit.ly/1JEw2ov
Restart and check in safe mode - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c
Enable the built in admin account and check - http://bit.ly/1JoFhcw
Go to Power Options - change plan settings - change advanced power settings - display - change display timer - apply and ok - restart and check.
If the issue is the same, then Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check. Also, reinstall the video drivers from the support site or the vendor site and check.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Firstly check if you can drain all the excess power from the system .
Check if you are able to run the LCD BIST .

1.                    Turn the computer off.
2.                    Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the Laptop LCD BIST.
3.                    The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
4.                     The laptop will restart when the test is finished.
Kindly private message the service tag to the system .

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

My laptop is almost 12 months old.  2 weeks ago the power light (on front of case) started blinking -- 1 white, 4 amber, repeated continuously -- when A/C power cord plugged in and battery has a charge.  Same if I unplug A/C power cord and run only on battery. (Bios show battery is "Normal" and icon tray shows battery is fully charged.)  Power light is constant white when I remove battery and power only with A/C cord. I called Dell Tech Support and they told me that this is not a problem with battery and that my laptop is properly functioning.  Blinking light would seem to indicate otherwise.  I would appreciate any insights that anyone might have, in particular if you have encountered this same problem.  Thank you.

A:Inspiron 1545 Power Light Blinking White/Amber

Hello again
Thank you so much for replying. YES, when I disconnect the battery and only run on A/C power the light stays white.
So, I will have to get a new battery which is quite expensive as I am no longer under warranty. I hardly ever use it, only to move the laptop from one room to the other. I pretty much use it like a "desktop". I have been putting up with the annoying light for a couple of weeks now, sometimes I disconnect the battery just to get rid of the annoyance, but it has been windy/stormy weather here and we are known to have occasional power outages, so I rather keep it in.
Anyways, thank you so much for posting your issue and writing back. I appreciate it

The battery can be fully charged and the power cable can be in but no matter what the light is flashing 4 times red then 1 white continuously.
Any way to stop it?

Hi
Are you able to turn on the system ?
I believe by power light you meant the battery charging indicator.
If you are able to load into OS, Update your BIOS.
Here is the link to BIOS for your system.

recently bought a Dell Inspiron 14 5459 on June 12, 2016 and first thing I noticed is that to turn on the laptop I need to press and hold down the power button at least for 3 seconds in order for the laptop to boot up, this seems strange, I brought up this issue at the Dell Store where I bought the laptop and the sales people there told me that they noticed this in most Inspiron models.  Is this normal?

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
This is unusual we would suggest you to check with another system to see if the same happens.
Kindly provide us with the service tag and email address.

Does anyone know what model or type of adaptor I can purchase for my Dell Inspiron 13-7368 laptop for the power inlet so that I connect onto my external portable power unit (The connection to the power unit is USB)?
I do not have knowledge of how those the Dell power inlet are being classified and I cannot locate the specification for it. The AC Adaptor that I have for the Dell laptop is model HA45NM140. The information maybe on the AC-Adaptor but I do not know what I am looking for in regarding the plug in type for the inlet of the laptop.

Hi recently my Dell 2330 wont boot up properly. I press the power button and the light comes on the button and i hear the fan. The screen is a brighter black then after a few seconds the screen seems to go off but still power and fan running. Ive spoken to Dell and done all what they asked. Then today out the blue it came on as normal. I went to run a diagnostics test from a link Dell sent me and it asked me to restart the computer. I did and then it  did what it did before and has not come back on since. They have said it could be the motherboard. Any other suggestions ? Thanks

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 4150 running XP Prof. My lcd screen goes totally white after about 13-15 minutes of run time. I can hook up an external monitor and it works fine. This is an older laptop and has an inverter also. I don't want to buy a new screen and inverter if they are ok. I tore is down partially and re-seated the vga cable to the motherboard with same results. My opinion is that the bulbs are ok since it is bright white when it quits.
I would appreciate any help....Thanks

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 3537 model. It has been giving me a problem on and off. There is white vertical line which comes right in the middle of the screen. I used to press a little lightly on the screen and it used to disappear. But since morning it has been constantly there and troubling me a lot.
Request help asap and thanks a ton in advance.

The only way to permanently solve the problem is to replace the LCD -- if the system is under warranty, contact Dell and they'll do that for you. If it's not, the screen you depends upon whether it's a standard LCD (about $50-100) or a touchscreen (requires the complete assembly;  about $200).

A:Dell Inspiron won't power on

On some motherboards there is a light does that light come on?

On some Dells there is a set of 4-5 lights marked 1-5 or A-E do they light up and which ones and what color?

What caused the power outage?

Some times just because the power supply come on does not mean that it can handle the load. You also need to test the power supply while running it on a load.

Do any of the fans come on when you turn the system on?

Worst case the power supply is ok and one of the circuit boards got fried.

Try a different (same wattage) power supply.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530. There is power to the unit because the green light on the back of the box lights up when the power cord is plugged in. However, when I press the on/off button on the front of the case nothing happens. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 530 will not power on

Does the monitor go into "Power Saving" mode?
Did you check the cable from the rear of the PC to the monitor? Make sure it's properly connected at both ends (power the PC off before playing with the cable).
Can you test this monitor on a different PC or another monitor on this PC?
Power off and unplug. Press/hold power button on tower for ~15 sec.
See if it will boot now with only mouse, monitor and keyboard attached.

If not sounds like a power supply problem

My dad has a Dell Inspiron that as of last night won't power on at all. When we push the power button, there is a quick 1 or 2 second whirr type sound as if it's trying to do something and the lights flash for a second as well. And then it just dies right then and there, without any attempt to reach any level of booting that I can see. I tried turning it on with the laptop plugged in as well, so I know it's not a battery problem. What are the other possibilities, and is there anything that can even be done about it or to diagnose it?
I'm almost positive it's past warranty as I know he's had it for at least a couple years.

i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype.
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.

hi, after you hit F12 did you see the diagnostics program at all? Ordinarily I would say It may be worthwhile running a scan on the hard drive if you can. But, I see you removed a virus, can you tell me if it was with the help of the antimalware section on this forum? or did you just remove it yourself? I need to know if you are absolutely sure you removed all traces of the virus - if you had the help of a forum they would have given you the "all clear". Have you tried starting in safe mode at all?

I'm hoping I put this in the right thread.
Here is my issue:
I have a Dell N5030 laptop. I recently did some maintenance on it by replacing the power jack thinking that it was not recognizing the adapter for some reason. However I am still not getting any power from the adapter.

When the battery is in the Laptop the machine will start to power on, but before anything can show up on the screen it powers back down. I'm unsure of how to proceed.

Does anyone have any advice on how to troubleshoot this issue?

A:Dell Inspiron N5030 Won't power on

Sounds like the battery is discharged and can't hold power up because of that.

If you unplug the AC cord and battery, press the power button for 30 seconds to reset, then plug back in the AC cord, what happens?

Now repeat that but hold the power button while plugging back in the AC cord. Any change?

You'll need to get power into the PC to see if it will hold power up.

Wash it upside down with distilled water only... and use a lot of it, then dry it upside down for seven days without the use of fans as they generate static electricity which is the real evil.

A:Dell Inspiron 1100 gets no power

So you have reated all the things, like Ram; keyboard so forth (it sounds as though you know generally about all this)

You could also try reseating the CPU, but once this is done, you will then need to apply new thermal paste to fix the HeatSink again.

If you're really deetermined, you could remove the motherboard from the case fully, and benchtest it.

I am looking for a 400 Watt or more power supply under $60 Which will be compatible with my Dell Inspiron 531. The reason I am needing this is because I recently purchased a Nvidia 9600 GSO video card and my computer [I guess to save them some money] does not have the connector required to connect the video cards power adaptor to the power supply. I am looking for a power supply that will let me connect this video card to it AND have connectors for my hard drive dvd driver etc which are sata I believe.

OCZ power supplies are good quality, and cheap.
But there is a slight possibility that you will need a special-made power supply for your Dell. Though, I googled a bit, and saw a power supply that was said to be "made" for your Dell, it was actually physically the size of a normal ATX power supply, and had all the same connections (at least if it doesn't have a custom 24-pin mobo connector) as a normal ATX PSU.

Hi, here is my problem :

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 with power issues. The laptop boots fine to bios but it seems like the motherboard doesn't send any power to the Hdd or Cd-rom so the bios send and error of no HDD present.

I though it would be the CMOS battery but the computer doesn't loose the date/time in the bios. I've also tried booting off a usb and it works. I've tried the HDD in my desktop and it works so the drive itself is not an issue.

Does this mean that my motherboard is gone? I am also out of warranty on it.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1405. My daughter was using it and got called away. When she returned, she assumed it had gone in to standby or hibernation mode but it appeared to have shut off "or something". Now, when you push the power button, the device status lights all come on, as do the numeric keypad, uppercase letter function, and scroll lock function lights. After about 5 seconds, the uppercase function light and scroll lock function light start blinking. After about 20 second of that, the computer shuts off. Nothing else happens, no other lights come on, the display does not light up.....nothing. I have tried while battery powered and while plugged in to a power outlet with no success. ANY idea what is happening??

Hello I have an Inspiron e that shut down one day on its own and won t restart I press the power button and the light blinks but that s all I ve read a previous closed thread on another model suffering the same on 5000e Dell power Inspiron won't problem The suggested answer to that problem laid within the touchpad assembly It seems like it s in hibernation but won t come back to life A respondent wrote where there was a magnet that exherted its force near a long thin sensor labelled V or U on the circuit board i don t which circuit board he refers to He proceeded to disconnect this sensor with a sharp knife and the machine came back and has been running well The only downside he states is no automatic hibernation which i personally don t care about i only had hibernation enabled because it was my boy s laptop and he would leave it running I removed everything and disconnected the touchpad from the motherboard but i can t find this sensor he refers to I would think they should be similar albeit different models but if anyone could help identify it that would really help Then i would know if it s shot or not Another writes that he performed as above and he thinks he sees the bar that detects Dell Inspiron 5000e won't power on the magnet located in the lid looks to be labelled U or V He also got his machine working by removing Any help at all would be greatly appreciated Thanks all nbsp

I spilled water on my Dell Inspiron 6000 a while ago. Since then it will not completely power on. I have tried taking it apart and letting it dry for ~5 days then reassembling, but I continue to have the same problem. When I press the power button (or try Fn Power option) you can hear the fan kick in and all of the LED lights (Numlock, CAPLock, etc) flash on then off, then the NUMlock flashes 4 times brightly, then 6 times dimly, then you can hear the fan shut down and the system powers off. Does anyone know what this error code is? I know the hard drive is fine as I have tried it in another inspiron. I would be grateful for any suggestions or ideas. Thanks.

Unless it's the power adaptor that's actually faulty?

Try removing the power adaptor and battery
Hold the power ON button on for 30 secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Plug the power adaptor back in, and then try turning it on.

I've just done a clean install of W10 on my Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop. I turned off the laptop last night when the battery was about half discharged.

I tried turning on the laptop today after it had been off 18 hours and it was completely dead - there was no response to the power on button and no charging light despite the charger outputting the correct voltage.

I read online about removing the battery so I did this. I removed the battery, pressed the power button for 60s then plugged in the power lead and hey presto the laptop started! I then put the battery back in and started W10 fine. The battery showed 56% charge so the battery wasn't flat.

I'm mystified why this happened - does anyone have an explanation? I can only think there was a poor battery connection which prevented the laptop starting and removing and replacing the battery cured this.

I have a Dell Inspiron e1505 notebook (laptop). it now won't power on!

I checked if my power adapter has a problem, but my power adapter works fine when connected to my friend's laptop.

When I switch on the power, the LED lamp on adapter is glowing green. As soon as I insert the adapter pin into my laptop, the LED turns off! And no LED on laptop would ever blink.

Can somebody please guide me? Thank you!

A:Dell Inspiron e1505 won't power on

Lots of folks are having trouble with the power socket for the adapter cable breaking loose from the board. Does your jack wiggle at all or otherwise feel loose?

Also, that Dell model has a lot of trouble with the inverter to the screen burning out. Everything will light up except the screen. A new inverter costs $5 to $9, but takes some work to install.

Hi all The screen of my Inspiron randomly becomes completely covered in white fuzzy lines the entire screen There is no particular pattern for when this happens It sometimes happens as soon as I log in and begin typing and or clicking on the mouse pad and on other occasions I can use the laptop for a good randomly in screen Inspiron lines horizontal covered 3520 fuzzy white hour or two before it happens Today for example I used the laptop for minutes and it happened times with each occasion lasting about - seconds in duration However yesterday I used the laptop for over an hour and it didn t happen at all I imagine this is a hardware problem relating Inspiron 3520 screen randomly covered in white fuzzy horizontal lines to a wire connecting the screen as it only happens when I m actually using Inspiron 3520 screen randomly covered in white fuzzy horizontal lines the laptop to type or surf the web etc I can watch a film on the laptop for a straight hours and it won t happen once so long as I don t touch the machine So I m thinking that possibly the mild vibrations caused by me pressing the keys and or mouse pad are causing a wire to disconnect or become lose It doesn t matter if the laptop is hot or cold it s indiscriminate I have ran all the applicable tests on SupportAssist and no issue is found I ve also updated all drivers About months ago I upgraded from Windows to and the problem stopped for a short while so I was hopeful it had been a software glitch However it Inspiron 3520 screen randomly covered in white fuzzy horizontal lines soon started again and now it s happening so frequently the laptop is basically useless other than for watching films clips Any ideas suggestions guys Many thanks

If that's the cause, then the image should be ok on an external screen - that would be the first thing to check.
If it's not, the problem is with the mainboard.

A:Inspiron 8000 display dim

Hi mmann

It could be that the cable connecting the LCD to the laptop has gone bad and is opening up in certain positions. You could also try reseating the connector between the system board and the display. It could be making a bad contact. The same with the other connectors in the LCD display itself.

A:Dell Inspiron 1420 power problem

Hi

fault can sometimes be caused by things such as bad memory or an internal overheat problem, dependant on how techie you are, it would require the stripping of the unit to check such things.

memory is usually accessible from underneath the unit, remove the memory boards and reseat them, if it still doesnt work then it would require the strip and check...

Laptops have lots of screws and can be difficult to strip down, Dell do offer strip down instructions on their site for each unit.

Hi

Hoping someone might have come across the problem I'm having with my Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop.

When I press the power button nothing much happens: two LEDs at the front (power and hard disk) light, and the 3 caps lock, num lock, scroll lock keys flash once. Apart from that nothing - no video, no fan noise. Tried it connected to an external monitor and nothing on that either.

This is with the (dead) battery removed and only the power supply connected.

To rule out anything else I've removed the hard disk and memory but it's still the same.

Hello,

My brother has a Dell Inspiron 530s, and it needs a new power supply. Could anyone possibly tell me what type of power supply I will need? I know it all depends on what type of connectors and wattage. I know that I will need at least a 250-watt power supply, but I'm not sure about the connectors. I tried to look it up on their website but they didn't specify. I just don't want to have to buy a power supply from dell's website, I'd prefer to get one from newegg.com or amazon.

Thanks in advance.

That's a SFF [small form factor] power supply. Doubt you'll find one that is higher watt rated. Amazon has the following:

and this one

http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Dell-Inspiron-Identical-Compatible/dp/B002WPSS28/ref=pd_sim_misc_3

Looks like the only difference is base price & shipping costs.

Hi folks,

I have a:

Dell Inspiron 3737, Windows 10, 1.70gHz, 16GB RAM, 64-bit, Intel Core i3

. . . which is now out of warranty (purchased circa: 2 x years ago).

I am having a problem every time I try to START the machine (whether from battery or mains).  I have to hold down the POWER button until all of the (front) LED's turn off (which takes about 5 x seconds), and the press/hold the POWER button again until it boots up.

I read some threads and also watched a couple of videos on here.  I tried removing the BATTERY and holding down the POWER button (for 10 x seconds) to kill off any STATIC, but this has made no difference?!

I hope someone is able to advise accordingly.

Many thanks in advance . . .

Best,

Paul David Seaman (UK)

A:RE: Power Issue - Dell Inspiron 3737 (help?)

From the way that you describe it, it sounds like the notebook is not fully shutting down, but hanging at shutdown. So just pressing the power button doesn't do anything as the system is already turned on.  Holding down the power button until all the LEDs turn off forces the notebook to fully shut down and then you are able to power it back up again.   Does this seem correct to you?  Other than the shut down and start up process are they any other problems?
Press the Windows key with the X key and choose power options, and check what the power button is configured to do? Change it to turn off the notebook and press the power button to turn the system off. Does the system fully shut down or does it still have the problem?
As a test before shutting down hold down the shift key and click restart, in the following menu choose safemode. Allow the system to boot to safemode and shut the system down normally and does the notebook fully shut down from safemode?
If the notebook does fully shutdown from safemode try the task manager and msconfig to further troubleshoot. Start the system up to normal windows and press control alt delete and choose task manager.  In task manager take a look at the running programs and close them.  Once they are closed try shutting down the notebook and see if  the problem continues, if not and the system fully shuts down then you know it was one of the running programs causing the problem and you can try disabling half of them and see if the problem continues.  If the problem continues then the culprit program will be in the half that you didn't disable, if the problem goes away then the problem program will be in the half that you disabled.  Now that you know what half the problem came from disable that group by half again and test until using process of elimination you know know what program is causing the problem and you can either uninstall that program, or check with the vendor of the program for a solution.
If nothing in task manager helps then you can try msconfig.  Do a search for msconfig and once open click on the services group.  Check the box for "hiding all Microsoft services"  and then follow the same process for the services as you did using the task manager.  If the problem stops then instead of a program running in the background it is a service running that is the cause.  Use process of elimination to find the specific service.  Once you have the service do a web search, look in google, yahoo or whatever search engine you prefer to find about the service and see if it is something safe to leave disabled.
I know this a lengthy process and can be frustrating, but you should be able to find the culprit without having to reinstall Windows.  Please let me know what you find out.

A:Dell Inspiron 14R SE charging only when laptop power is off

In descending order of probability:
Replace the AC adapter first.  Use a Dell OEM AC adapter ONLY - - NOT a third party adapter.
If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC power jack in the system:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the AC adapter is unknown, the battery will not charge.

I have a Dell inspiron 6400 with a bad battery. When I plug in the ac adapter the unit powers up. When I hold the power button down to shutdown, it does.. then it comes back on again by itself. So I think....let it boot to Win XP and shutdown from the desktop. START....turn off computer...turn off...10 seconds later...post beep and power on! What is going on? Got any ideas?

where can i find the same from dell motherboard?
Thanks!
