Hi everybody. I have a question a bit strange/or difficult! I'm using Dell Dimension E521. I have 4 (four) slots to add more RAM memory. I have it filled with 4 (four) 512 MB RAM modules. I have a feeling that I need a bit more. What can I do? My motherboard supports only 2 gigabytes all together. Wondering if there is anything I can buy (a link for the item please) to add another 2 gigabytes? It can be something what I can plug in to one of my USB outlets. Or do you think the existing 2046 MB of RAM memory is enough for me?
(How difficult would it be to install a different motherboard? I don’t really understand what can I do with a Processor chip itself?)
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Intel and Micron held a joint press conference earlier today to announce a breakthrough memory technology called 3D Xpoint (pronounced 3D crosspoint) that's up to 1,000 times faster (read speeds) than today's NAND, features 1,000 times better endurance and is...
I hope this really brings about the death of the hard drive. And it can't come soon enough.
Gimme a 1 TB Xpoint SSD that doesn't break the bank and I'm sold.
Can someone give me an advice, I want to use the very high setting for GTA 5, but the video memory indicator indicates that I go overboard the 2GB of my GTX 750 TI, is that safe?.
BTW my resolution is 1366x768 only.
My samsung 16GB memory card is not getting detected in my laptop.
Even if I connect through my phone data card it's not detected. But it is working properly in my phone. I have been using it for 2 years.
Have you tried it on other computers?Click to expand...
yes, even then it is not getting detected
Memtest and other memory test software don't tell you which of the modules is the faulty one. Is there any way to tell which is the bad stick besides testing one-by-one?
Not really. but you can test each stick one by one

My friend's USB flash memory has data (its drive shows that there is data in it) but when I double click on it to open it and see the contents, it doesn't show any folders and files! I did the following works:
1- I scanned it by my updated kaspersky AV. but no threat found
2- Scanned by windows defender tool. same result!
3- scanned by malwarebytes anti-malware. same.
4- cmd (run as administrator) -> go to its drive (e.g., H:, when H is my flash drive) and typing the attarib -s -h *.* /s /d command. It could not to show the data.
All my attempts faced failure till now.
Can anyone help me please?
Go to cmd (run as administrator) -> go to its drive (e.g. H: where H is my flash drive) and type the attrib -s -h *.* /s /d
Now flash will show the data.
Your attrib spelling was wrong correct them
Hi to all at Techspot. I'm not a techie but noticed that there was two kinds of memory, DDR3 and DDR5. My Question is,
What's the difference between DDR3 Memory and the Graphics DDR5 Memory and if the DDR5 is in anyway better then why is it not used for desktop computer memory instead of DDR3.
I know some apps are taking advantage of or utilizing graphics memory Thanks for any explanation
As far as I know, memories used on video cards have different characteristics than memories used on PC.. since this is beyond my knowledge, I'm sorry I can't explain much more in details.. Just wait for other members with deeper knowledge that can give some information regarding of this matter
For the past month, Nvidia has faced its fair share of bad PR thanks to the GeForce GTX 970's memory allocation issue. As has been uncovered by users and explained by Nvidia, the GTX 970's last 512 MB of VRAM...
Again: the performance didn't change overnight; it's today the same performance than the advertised on launch date. Even that technicality can kill the case. Specifications were the "misleading" part.
Samsung has started mass producing what's being called the industry's first ePoP, or embedded package on package. By combining two key smartphone elements into a single package, Samsung's solution promises to offer high-end handset makers up to 40 percent more space.
It's the natural progression of tech right now.
Hello all...I'm having problems with my Dell PC. I just purchased a sweet new scanner (ScanSnap SV600) and when I scan a lot of pages at once, I get an error message saying I'm out of storage and to restart the computer. The specific code given is 0x8007000E. I've also been noticing when I run a few web tabs at once, sometimes they just go black and I need to restart the browser. It has 8GB of RAM and all the drivers are updated. Anything I'm missing? Thank you kindly!
Dell Optiplex 790
Win 7 Pro
How much storage space do you have? From what I could research this error is tied to programs demanding a great deal of memory. You say this occurs when trying to scan a lot of pages at once. Does this occur when scanning less material at once? Have you tried updating your drivers for the scanner?
1 4gb samsung pc3-12800 1.35 v
1 4gb nanya pc3-10600 1.5 v
The timings are listed different on the stick.
HWInfo reports that at 666.7 both are 9-9-9-24
Crucial will sell me all 1.35 v memory as upgrades and the 4830T-6678 Timeline X came with the firstname.lastname@example.org
The laptop boots and runs with both sticks installed
Any thoughts on this?
Is the laptop reporting 8GB of memory installed? If it is, you should be okay
I cloned my failing hard drive (a 160gb) to a new one (500gb). The installation seemed to go smoothly enough (it was my first time though) as it just required me to stay grounded and remove about 4-5 screws. When I loaded the PC up it wouldnt start the first time so I had to a Windows repair, which didn't seem to do anything except now it worked (it said it failed or something). I then had an issue with Windows 7 claiming to not be genuine although for one reason or another that stopped. Now my issue is that I am unable to access the additional memory of my new hard drive, I am able to access the cloned portion but not the rest (about 316gb). Any help would be appreciated, my PC is a Dell Latitude E6400 if that helps.
It is absolutely normal not to see the rest of the free space in the moment. When you clone a drive you create the exact same image of old drive on the new one. This includes the size of the original HDD. However if you go to Disk Management ( type diskmgmt.msc in the search in the start menu and hit enter) you will see that you have one partition of 160GB and the rest of the space will be listed as unallocated. To use it you have two options ? you can create a second partition or you can extend the original one to take all the available space.
To create a new second partition just right-click on the unallocated space and select ?New Simple Volume?. This will starts a wizard to guide you through the rest of the process. First it will ask about the size of the partition. To use all the remaining space just type in the same value you have for Maximum disk space. Click Next.
Then you will get to choose and available drive letter to assign to this partition. Choose one and click Next.
Then you get to the Format partition window. You should choose ?Format volume with the following settings: ?. For the file system is best to leave NTFS. Allocation unit size as default. You can also put a label for the volume here. Then tick the box for ?Perform a Quick Format. ? Click Next. Then Click Finish. And you're done.
If at any point Windows pops up with the following message ?The operation selected will convert the disk to dynamic... are you sure you want to continue? ? click NO as this will most probably make your Windows unbootable and you will have to reinstall it.
If you want to extend the existing partition right-click on 160GB partition and select ?Extend Volume?. It will start the wizard and will only ask about how much space to add. Just select the maximum available space here and click Next, then click Finish. Once done your existing partition will be bigger and you'll be able to use all the space on your new HDD.
Hope that helps.
Most of memories, RAM, ROM, HDD, DVD-RAM and others are
random access. What are some non random access memories please?
I plan on upgrading the ram on an older laptop.
It comes with IGB DDR2 PC2-4200 533MHz SODIMM, can I add
IGB DDR2 667MHz SODIMM to the spare slot and will it detect it?
Thought I'd ask before attempting!
Hard to say, there is only one way to know, that is to try. I'm assuming you have the modules in question. Otherwise I would suggest buying modules of the same specs to increase chances of compatibility.
Here again since I have the most weird problem ever which I have never seen nor heard of before. I recently upgraded the OS on a friends computer, from Vista to 7. However now I can't seem to get the onboard ethernet adapter to work, it can't be seen in device manager nor anywhere else. I have tried to reset the bios (by removing the cmos battery) and I have also checked that the network adapter is set to 'Enabled'. Also, when I connect the cable to the ethernet port no lights go on, it doesn't give any sort of hope what so ever. The cable is ok, the "modem" is ok, and everything else seems to be in order and yet it doesn't work.
Computer in question:
HP Pavilion 6530sc
Non-default GPU and added 1Gb RAM
Whenever you install a new OS, always take note of the model of core system hardware like GPU, chipset, and ethernet/wifi (there are a few others that aren't as important, but nice to have updated) since those are critical to your computers core functionality.
However, a quick google search of your model yielded me with your PC's system specs. Your PC contains a Realtek RTL8201N ethernet adapter. So far I am unable to find a driver from Realtek itself and the HP driver is not Realtek, but instead nVidia nForce.
So after a bit of searching, I came across this: it seems to me that you have an old chipset from nVidia. I am not completely sure, but I think you have an ION chipset. Try installing this ION chipset driver (64 bit) ==OR== this ION chipset driver (32 bit) and tell me if it works. It should include the necessary component drivers and if it works, it means you have an ION chipset like I suspected.
Here are the specifications for your PC BTW.
I installed a Windows XP x86 on my PC. But when I open the system information window in the System Summary tab, in the right-hand pane and at bottom the following are written:
Total Physical memory 768.00 MB Available Physical memory 270.41 MB !!
Why Available Physical memory is 270.41 MB please?
PS: My system is very slow and also very slower when start up. Isn't that less Available Physical memory the source of that slowness?
You have only 1Gb of ram installed on the motherboard and XP is using 768Mb which isn't leaving much over. You need to install more ram. It depends on what you are using the computer for but I'd say you want at least 2Gb ram.
I wanna make sure I done all steps before sending these 2 new sticks of memory back to newegg because there defective.
2 new sticks match the old stick. G.Skill, F1-3200PHU2-2GBNS, DDR-400, CL2.5-3-3-6 2.5 ~ 2.75v, PC3200 1Gx2
The 2 old sticks works in all 4 memory slots. New memory sticks does not.
When the PC completely boots up I get lines on the monitor and freezes PC up after done booting everything. I reboot PC then get check sum error on the black boot up screen with F1 to continue or F2 enter setup.
Acer Aspire T160 desktop
That's a bit too old for me to be confident giving suggestions, sorry.
So, memory timings: 10-10-10-27.
Is that crap?
Edit: Is 9-9-9-24 better? I'm under the impression that the smaller the number the faster the ram.
I'm currently using this memory, it says the timings are 10-10-10-27. I looked in my bios and the timings were set to 9-9-9-24 so I changed them to match the RAM.
Is that recommended or should I have left it?
That's the wrong memory I linked to, I have this. My timings actually are 9-9-9-24. I'm trying to find my command mode, does anyone know what it is for this memory?

One of the stick of ram maybe bad. Try them each one at a time.
This was posted by Corsair a couple of days ago. What does everyone think? Is this just an attempt to get people to upgrade to shinny corsair ram, or is this finally a reason for gamers to have good ram/ overclock our current sticks?
No way the average FPS increases by 20 just by adding faster RAM (1920x1200 ultra graph)... BF3 barely gains 3 FPS from high speed RAM. It is just bloated graphs and marketing.
I need forum recommendations on good reliable memory sticks, 4x4 GB or 8x2 GB (don't sure which is better). Mostly PC will be using for games and some audio recording.
Don't know which clock 1866 or 2400 (O.C.) for motherboard will be better.
Can somebody share his experience with me?
First, you should know that X79 is the first (and only) consumer platform with a quad channel memory controller. That means for maximum memory performance you must use at least 4 DIMMs, populating channels A, B, C, and D.
The Sabertooth X79 originally supported up to only 1866 MHz, but I see the QVL lists kits up to 2400. http://support.asus.com/QVL.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=SABERTOOTH X79&hashedid=RPOIwd0pKLoXnbFV
If you buy a kit on this list, it has already been tested to work with your board, at least at stock CPU speeds. If you overclock your CPU (and you should with that unlocked processor), some of the higher speed RAM may not boot. I believe you'll be safe buying a 2133 kit, even one that's not on the QVL. I'm running Kingston HyperX Beast 2400 in my Asus P8Z77-V & i5-3570K system with great results, and it's not on my QVL. If you do go for the 2400, you should pick one of the 4x4GB kits from your QVL for assured compatibility. If all those are hard to find (or too expensive), roll the dice and get the kit you want, but make sure it's a name brand like Corsair, Adata, G.Skill, Patriot, Kingston HyperX, Crucial, etc., as they have reputations to preserve and do lots of testing on all platforms.
Also, check out this recent thread about whether or not fast RAM is worth the money - http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191311
My motherboard is a Z77 Asrok Extreme 6.
It has four dimm slots. I have One kit of 8 gigabyte memory from Gskill that is DDR3. 'dual channel' (11-11-11-28) PC 2133.
If I get another kit of 8 gig from ANOTHER vendor and its different timings can I put them into the alternate slots and have it work? Say I buy Corsair (9-9-9-9) PC 1600. Would the two kits work against each other since they are different timings? Is this NOT recommended?
Here is another better question. What if I buy the exact same memory from Gskill and drop them in as well? So I have two kits of dual channel 8 gig ram for a total of 16 gigs. Both kits would be same type/speed and latency. Will this work or do I need to use 'quad channel'?
Edited for spelling.

I'm thinking that different timings will cause issues with Dual Channel functionality. I'm also thinking that Dual Channel only functions if all modules can operate in dual mode. If you are not planning on operating in Dual Channel mode, I don't think it matters. However the modules should operate with the same timing, if they are to be linked together.
Anyway without actually knowing for sure, those are my thoughts.

I just came from a retail store to check on prices but most of their parts weren't available anymore. Instead of a G. Skill Ripjaws 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1600, the clerk offered me a Crucial Ballistix 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1866 memory. The board I'm gonna buy is an Asrock H77 Pro4/Mvp but looking at their memory support list http://www.asrock.com/mb/memory.asp?Model=H77 Pro4/MVP, it doesn't seem compatible.
The clerk had told me it was compatible and that he had tried it before but I'm not sure if it'd have unwanted effects over some period of time. (I got drawn in by how the memory looks and its LED so I'm including it as a choice). Thanks.
It will be compatible, worst case scenario is just setting your 1866Mhz RAM to run at 1600Mhz. You're getting quicker RAM for free.
Hi folks, I love to do video editing using adobe premiere, but as videos are recorded more often in HD even from my smartphone feels like there is not enough power anymore.
My system is Biostar Hi-Fi A85W motherboard with AMD A8-6500 and 4 GB DDR3. Now I am wondering if a memory upgrade to 8 GB would really make sense in that case? Or could it be a too slow CPU and I have to replace my current board?
I will be glad to hear your advice!
That is a newly released CPU, so it is not slow. Plus, it is a quad core. If you just do basic computing tasks, the 8GB will allow you to multitask more. Check out this site for what RAM to buy: http://goo.gl/95Yh
I have an USB flash memory brand PNY. Its speed is very low, that is, when I copy or delete files into/from it, it takes a very long time to be done. Is there a way to speed it up?
NO. Most likely you have it inserted to a USB 1.1 slot when it needs USB 2.0.

I have set up a Server type machine on a HP Touchsmart running Vista
I have purchased a Seagate 2TB Expansion Drive with its own power source
I desperately want to know how this external drive can be seen by other devices on the network
I have other external drives with their own power supply and non of them can be accessed by other computers on the network....Is there a trick to these devices!!!
I have external hard drives with NO power supply just USB connection and I can access them from any computer on the network and any media device on the network
I'm not very technical and would like to know if its just the type of device and I should be buying usb connected hard drives for music and movies
You need a router that has a USB connection. Then you can connect the external storage to the network. That is only for a USB drive though. Do you have one of those passport drives with a battery?

Often a faulty memory stick will work by itself, but then fail once running in duel channel.
Unfortunately this is very difficult to test with two sticks, so there's no guarantee that this is the issue. You may just have to buy some new memory.
I have an Gigabyte Radeon HD7770 1GB card. It works just fine, but I have noticed an issue where memory size detected differs from the actual size.
For example dxdiag (both32 and 64bit) detects only 700MB. So does Can You run it (from time to time).
I did validation with GPU-z and it does show proper size at 1GB: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/9p6wr/
I am wondering whether this might be due to a faulty card or (crossed fingers) nothing to worry about. I love this card and it would, obviously, really blow if it's defective.
Almost forgot to add that I am, currently, running on Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium. Windows 8 Pro 64Bit show the card as having 768MB of memory.
If it works, don't worry about the detected memory difference
I have an older 1GB p.c. I want to add 1G.B. to it. I located the correct part but my question is,,is this a simple process ? or should I have a pro do it? thanx
Here's one of the many videos on installing RAM. It is fairly straight forward. Module is notched in such a way that it will only fit in the slot one way. Depends on how cluttered it is inside the case, you might need to disconnect some cables/wires to do the install. I'd also get a can a compressed air and blow out the dust if it's dusty inside.
I have a nvidia geforce2 mx/mx 400 128MB VGA card. when I turn on computer today, VGA memory is displayed as 64MB instead of 128MB.
what could be the issue ?
I can't say what the issue is but thats an old card and could be experiencing issues from aging.

The GPU (dual, actually) I'm getting is an ATI Radeon 3870 X2 1GB. My current GPU is a classic NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400. The processor I'm getting is an AMD Phenom II X4 3.4GHz 965. My current is an AMD Sempron (something something). The memory is two 4GB Corsair Vengeance RAM cards. My memory is at 640MB (I know, it's pathetic.) currently.
Go for your memory first. Your over all performance on you stuff now will improve.
I was bored the other night so I No output reassembling parts video good solved after -- decided to assemble some parts I had laying around into a working system It was late and I d had a couple beers so I wasn t at my best I had some trouble installing the Hyper but finally had it all together and wired up It seemed to boot up fine all fans spinning both drives spinning but no output to video I knew that all parts came from a working system tried another No video output after reassembling good parts -- solved monitor tried a video card cleared CMOS reseated RAM no video Took it all apart and examined the mobo looking for shorted spots and cracks nothing I could see was wrong Went to bed had nightmares about electromagnetic pulse weapons testing randomly destroying computers all over the world Got up determined to fix a computer that shouldn t be broken installed the CPU and Hyper No video output after reassembling good parts -- solved again noticed that this time it lined up the screws much easier and didn t press the heatsink as tightly - looked at the instruction illustration again and realized I had the X bracket on wrong before quot breadboarded quot it and the video works Put it all back in the case testing at each step to make sure it was still getting VGA output It works fine now The extra mechanical force applied by the X bracket being wrong was enough to stress the CPU or the mobo to the point of throttling the video output somehow So for all you others who had the same problem no video after re-assembling good parts which Googled up in the hundreds this is one thing you might check When installed properly most coolers will twist a couple of degrees without too much trouble If it s rigidly immobile like mine was last night with X bracket installed wrong then something s wrong The lesson learned here is don t drink and attempt to build a computer even if it s only beers in hours nbsp

ok, terrible pun, I'm sorry.
Okay so I have the Corsair Force GT Series 120GB SSD. Its port's are Sata 3 and well my motherboard is a MSI Pro-E long story short it does not have a sata 3 port. So my question is there anything out there I can buy that does have a sata 3 port like something that will hook on the PCI slot's or something. I basically dont wanna have to buy a new mother board but I still wanna get the amazing speeds because right now im getting half its peformance anyways please write back soon. If you give me a link to a product I prefer www.newegg.com and my max budget is $50.
You will need a free PCI-E slot. But this should get the job done.
I do not know much about the brand. But it does have 5 Eggs on Newegg.

Hello, I wish to upgrade my PC with more RAM. Understand that upgrading RAM is easy.
Can any one guide me on how to carry this out.
Is it worth it considering the make and model??
Windows XP Home SP3 on a single core 2.2Ghz processor should run fine on 1GB of memory. Considering the cost of "DDR400 PC3200" I wouldn't upgrade, unless you absolutely needed more memory for a specific reason.
My windows xp 64 bit runs super slow after windows loading sign and it takes me 2 hrs to open up the desktop and transfer 6 images. I use 2 RAM's of 2gb (kingston DDR2). When I opened up BIOS, it showed 640k as base memory and 126m as extended memory.
There are no details under the computer title if I try to check the properties of computer or maybe it is just taking too much time to display. the desktop is fine, my computer still works but takes hours to do a simple task. it all started all of a sudden. Also I would like to know if 'unganged mode' is fine as it is displayed when the system boots. I tried to check another different RAM on the computer, but still no change, so I am confused regarding the problem.
My system is one month old, or something. I assembled it together with a friend. Since 1st day, CPU-Z does not report dual channel with my DDR3 Corsair Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A1333C9 8GB ( 2X4GB ) 1333MHz. The sticks are in the slots the mobo manual recommends (A2 B2).
In the BIOS, I could not find the information if they're in single or dual channel.
My chipset and mobo drivers are all up to date.
Edit: Solved (by myself) . All I had to do was uninstall an re-install a newer version of cpu-z. I'm a hero.
I am trying to recover my files-all.
Recently all the folders and files disappeared, normally when this happened i would view all the hidden files in the folder options and also unchecked the hide protected operating....
and i would see the hidden files.. now only thing i see is a folder marked playlist (guessing since it was in ma phone that's apart of the reason),
however if i delete it it comes back my guess is its a virus, i know my folders are still on it cause the space is allocated in the properties box so its there... i also tried the command line (attrib -s -.......and so on) but nothing worked, i only see the same playlist folder..
i don't want to buy one of those recovery software cause its costy and i might not use it frequently..
This might help:
I want to change the drive letter of my memory card, which shows up and is usable from My Computer but is not listed on disk management. I'm running Windows XP SP3 on a dell vostro 1400. Is there any reason for this? The card is a Canon SD Memory Card SDC-16M
Put in a memory card that the computer DOES see in disk management, change the drive letter, then put in other card & see if the computer can see it then. I really don't think changing drive letters is going to allow you to see a memory card, most likely it's dead, but it's worth a shot. Hope this helps, take care!
I am unsure of what memory to get if I upgraded my PC. See attached for pc specs.

Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo T61 laptop with 1GB of RAM.
I'm looking to upgrade this to 2GB or 4GB as I am running windows Vista on it.
I believe that it has 2 DDR-2 667 RAM slots, becaus CPUz says that it's running in dual channel mode but I'm not sure, and don't know how to find out.
Thanks for reading
Have you tried the Crucial website? That will generally tell you.

Hi, I order two sets of memory sticks both 2 GBs. here they are
1st one I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-PC2-6...GG/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1336701850&sr=8-10
here is what I am staring it
What do you guys say is everything working fine?
I'm slightly confused. You said your purchased two sets but yet the second purchase appears to be a single module. Even in the screenshot the module size is 2GB.
What exactly is the question?
Are you are questioning the frequency of 400MHz?
If so, that is normal. DDR stand for Double Data Rate, DDR2-800 would be Double Data Rate of 400MHz which is 800MHz.
Hi, I have an old slow pc which had only 256MB of SDRAM installed, so to speed it up I decided to up the memory with a1GB stick of DDR memory. The mobo, a ECS K7AMA has 4 slots, 2 for SDRAM and 2 for DDR ram. I removed the sdram beore I installed the DDR ram, I changed the jumpers as necessary but the system seems to think there is only 32MB installed which makes for a very slow pc, running XP. I have tried both slots but it makes no difference.
I I revert back to the SDRAM, changng jumpers that is recognised fine. The memory is from Crucial and is the type recommended by them on their website.
Any suggestions as to where I may be going wrong?
The motherboard may only recognize 2-512MB DDR modules or even just 2-256MB DDR modules
when i plug in my memory stick and do a search on it it say please insert the last disk of the multi-volume set and click ok whats gone wrong please
it could be that the zip file is part of a lot more files. they are usually broken up into smaller parts to upload, and you need all of them to decompress the file.
or the file didnt completly transfer onto the USB drive, or has become currupted/damaged.
What parts of a system dictate the maximum amount of memory it can use? Does it come down to the number of lines in the address bus?
The motherboard dictates how much RAM a system can hold. The OS dictates how much RAM can be used.
Hello; Need some help here. Have an ASUS netbook with Atom 330 processor and 2GB of ram installed. System says only 767MB available. Replaced memory with 2 - 2GB sticks from Crucial (limit on machine is 4GB). Rebooted and system still says 2GB installed and 767MB available. Any ideas?
Here is some info. The integrated GPU will use "X" amount of RAM (whatever your GPU is).

I had this memory stick for a while, and its been working fine. It has a lot of my important college work on it too. Just a few days ago it randomly stopped working. I've tried it on all computers I can and none of them recognised it, and it didn't pop up in 'My Computer'.
The best reaction I got was on this laptop, where it said it was processing, but then said that I did not have a suitable driver software or something like that. Please help, I have a lot of work on it .
A lot of them quit just because they have been dropped more than 12 inches.
Hi there I was purpose? What listings motherboards? are for compatibility their Memory wondering if someone could clarify why motherboard manufacturers put out memory compatibility listings Im in a discussion with a work collegue who seems to think that these lists are non-exhaustive and they do not also display incompatible ram Ive explained to him that i believe these listings are designed to show a list of all ram that is tested by the MB manufacturer and is known and therefore guaranteed to be compatible with the board in general He disagrees Memory compatibility listings for motherboards? What are their purpose? and suggests otherwise - he thinks that memory of similar specification timings and voltage to those listed on the compatibility are guaranteed to work as they Memory compatibility listings for motherboards? What are their purpose? share the same characteristics - he suggests those lists serve no purpose when trying to match memory types and motherboards for compatibility and therefore cannot be relied upon in a situation where ram may not be compatible with the board in question If anyone can clarify exactly why motherboard manufacturers provide these lists - Memory compatibility listings for motherboards? What are their purpose? that would be great nbsp
But you don't want to assume the various modules would work together, or at the same time. Those listings of compatibility may show they work in the same system, but may or may not show memory that works together..
I wasn't able to connect through my wireless router to the internet on any of my wireless devices until I plugged in my wireless usb stick. I plugged it into one laptop, and now I can use both. Why would this happen? My mother has the same connectivity issue, and do you think I should try the same thing? It seems as though that every wireless connection that I come across has this problem lately. Every single one. I am confused, is it just me?
Renewing your IP address. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network. I used to get that error every time I tried to repair connection.
I think the lack of responses here may be the result of everyone else being confused as well.
Try explaining that a little better, its not exactly clear what your problem is.
I have recently joined this forum just because of some issues which are colliding in my mind..
Actually I want to know that Is DDR2 an excellent memory for automotive and industrial to server, consumer, networking, and computing?
Is there a reason for asking?
You can't just pick and choose the memory type you want. The memory type must match the design called for by the motherboard. DDR3 is the latest memory design and DDR4 will probably be available before long.
I have tried to increase the amount of memory my computer has but am running into some issues. It says I can use 1066/800/667/533/400 for which there are 4 slots each of which have a led light next to them. They light up in either green for good or red for not so good. Anyway I have a total of 3 2gb memory cards (PC5400) but I always seem to get a red light on which ever one I put in the third slot.... I want to get the maximum usage out of my pc but would like to fix this problem. Any clues?
XFX GeForce 8200 AMD SOCKET 940
Galaxy GT430 1gb GPX Card
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5800+ 3.0 ghz.
4gb (At the moment) pc-5400 2gb x2
As XFX has a really annoying system for hiding whatever minimal amount of info they have for this board of yours, it is hard to give you too much help.
The general specs for the GF 8200 chipset allow for easily 6 GB of RAM. If I interpret your question correctly, you are having trouble with the 3rd slot only and not the others. If so, don't use the troublesome slot and use the 4th slot. If that doesn't work either, your board is probably starting to fail, but then again, your board is probably starting to fail. It may well be time to move away from an AM2+ board to an AM3 or AM3+. You may also have to change your CPU and/or RAM but then again you may well still be able to get a compatible board such as this:
Prices are not very high and will probably only be available for the next 6 months or so as all these boards have been phased out by their makers. This is the not-so-bad news. The good news is that you will be able to use all your other parts with them.
Okay, so my question is whether there is any difference between having two 2x2 dual channel memory versus one 4x4 dual channel memory. Both would end up with 8 gigs, while one uses 4 slots and the other only 2 slots. For instance, I have the G.Skill Ripjaw 2x2 memory installed, and I am looking at upgrading to 8 gigs. Would simply buying another set to fill in my two remaining memory slots be the same as swapping out the 2x2 for 4x4 memory? This is of course assuming I have 4 memory slots supporting dual channel memory, and all other memory variables are kept constant.
Since you already have 2x2GB you might as well go ahead and add another 2x2GB to get to 8GB.
I have 6 gigs of crucial ballistix memory at 1600 mhz on my computer. I've had it for about half a year, and it has ran great until about a week ago. One of the sticks is not being recognized by windows, so now i only have 4/6 gigs of memory. The strange thing is, that speccy does see the memory, but it says that only 2 out of 6 memory slots are being used instead of 3 out of 6.
I am using windows 7 ultimate 64bit
go into the bios and check the ram slots and see if all 6 show up
Hi Guys please be gentle with me as this is my first post
I noticed my laptops fan was on most of the time running fast so I opened task manager and it shows cpu usage at least 60,to 100%,I then looked at processes running and noticed 4 instances of iexplorer running, 1 was using 337mb,the 2nd 145mb,third 132mb and so on,the one using the most was also using 50% of the cpu, this cannot be right ,can any kind soul help be please
I want to add memory to a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop it now has DDR2 ps2-3200, I want to upgrade from (2) 256 to (2) 1 GB chips. What is the fast memory this computer will take?
Run the test here:
i bought a USB memory Stick from overseas, and it was supposed to be 128gb,
when i tested it with 'H2test' the realy stoarge of the USB is only 2GB.
Am i able to hide/delete/alter the portion of the memory stick that is faulty and useless.
thus changing the propoerties of the memory stick
Change it to what? You can't make 2 gigs hold 128 gigs.
If you bought with Paypal or a credit card you may be able to dispute the purchase....
I have hp pavilion dv6 laptop with 2Gb RAM and 760Mb onboard graphics. So is there any perticular method to increase the graphic memory?
Some laptops has an option in the BIOS where you can choose how much of the available RAM you want to share with the video card, so if your laptop has that option just add more RAM and adjust in the BIOS
I am new to this forum and to posting tech questions online in general so hopefully I can describe what s going on accurately My computer has had no problems to iPod, External device) memory drives working (e.g. external not speak of lately I had not synced my iPod nano in some time maybe a month or two so I plugged it in yesterday to sync it I received the following message quot iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted You may need to restore this iPod before it External drives (e.g. iPod, external memory device) not working can be used with External drives (e.g. iPod, external memory device) not working iTunes quot I have since discovered the problem has nothing to do with External drives (e.g. iPod, external memory device) not working the iPod itself The iPod plays all the music and podcasts that are currently on it just fine When I plug it into my girlfriend s computer her iTunes recognizes it just fine as my iPod and I was able to pull videos off of it I am now pretty certain the problem is with my USB drives I have an external memory drive that I use to back up documents - I had not used this in some time either Out of curiosity I plugged it in and it s not working either When I plug it in and turn it on nothing pops up and when I try to do certain actions to check on it like open My Computer the system freezes and I end up having to manually shut down the computer and restart I have gone through several threads on various forums and tried almost everything but nothing has resolved this issue Some threads suggested that plugging in certain devices can mess up your USB drives like this and a few weeks ago I did plug my girlfriend s printer into one of my USBs - I did get it to work but things were a little screwy with it so I m wondering if somehow that did something Other than that I can t think of anything else that has changed since the last time everything worked So far I have tried changing the drive letter on the iPod I have tried cleaning up my USB drives by using drivecleanup exe I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drives through Device Manager and I tried restoring my computer to a time when everything was working - none of this has fixed the problem and I m now at a loss Also FYI it s not easy for me to reinstall my operating system I have Windows XP Professional Service Pack because I purchased my computer from a custom dealer so I do not own my operating system CDs - they just load the OS onto the computer for you I can take it in to have it reinstalled but it costs and I just did that a few months ago so I really don t want to spend that much to do it again if it s not absolutely necessary especially since everything else on the computer is working fine I am hoping someone will have some insight on this and can help me out Any advice is welcome this has become extremely frustrating and time consuming Thanks Jon nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/external-drives-e-g-ipod-external-memory-device-not-working.171337/
I'm planning to fix up this laptop soon. I need to buy 2 x 2gb for the ram and a new LCD screen for it. I plan to get a new HDD for it sometime next year. What do I need to know for buying this ram stuff and if there would be a program that would give me the extra info about it that I may need...
Read the manual. If there is no manual then do a search for the make and model and you should be able to find the manual in PFD format. It should tell you everything you know.
How old is the system and what is the make and model?
So I have an Asus N61Jv and am wanting up upgrade the memory from 4 to 8GB. I know that it's DDR3 1066 (PC3-8500) and DDR3 1333 (PC3-10600) compatible. I was wondering if I might be able to step up some more on it like 1600?
Unless the laptop can be overclocked, I do not believe that will benefit you much.
Which version of Windows 7 is installed, 32 bit or 64 bit? If 32 bit, then additonal RAM won't be utilized.
I have a Toshiba Satelite l645D and when I go to my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 settings it says it has a total of 1405 available graphics memory, but only 256 Video memory is dedicated... My laptop has plenty of RAM to give to the video card, and when I go to the BIOS theres no option for increasing the video ram whatsoever... Is there any way to do this?
If there are no options in the bios, the answer is no
Hi My system already had an Nvidia GT Gcard installed and running for about years now Yesterday i got a BOOTMGR error and had to repait that file using the Windows Disc This involved using the onboard video chip of my motherboard Manufacturer BIOSTAR Group - Model GF -M TE Upon resolving the BOOTMGR issue i was unable to resuse my graphics card I have tried reinstalling drivers motherboard drivers resetting CMOS etc The trouble is when i try disabling the onboard chip through device manager it still will not switch to the issue (not solved card Graphics threads) by other any Gcard There is also only an Graphics card issue (not solved by any other threads) option in BIOS to set the onboard chip to ON or Auto ON I do not have the driver CD for the graphics card and gave been using the Nvidia site for them Also what appears to be odd is that the computer does not detect the Gcard at all and only the onboard chip even if i uninstall the drivers for it and disable it Any help would be great nbsp
I suggest a clean reinstall of the OS and drivers from scratch. Clean out your PC, re-seat all the components and continue with a fresh install of OS, drivers, etc.
If that doesn't work, then it's an issue with your card or the PCI-E slot on the motherboard.
hi got a question i have a video card withe 4332mb
the problem is it Shared Memory of 2559 MB
this gives me alot of problems withe gaming and i realy would like to change this
is there a way to change the Shared Memory to dedicated memory?

Am I reading that correctly, because you stated you had plans to upgrade it to 8GB? Newegg has plenty of options for laptop memory, but I think your motherboard may be limited to something closer to what you have, with room for only slight improvement. If I am in error, someone please correct me.

EDIT: In other words, it seems to me that you can only double what you currently have in size, but not in speed. Again, I welcome scrutiny. I think that you may be looking for something more than I am providing here.
So here s the problem I ve got four blocks of corrupted data on my memory card I ve tried deleting them but it doesn t work I would ignore it except now I cannot save anything new on it If I try that data will data Memory PS2 Card for Max Corrupted 16MB on also become corrupted I ve been searching online and unfortunately have yet Corrupted data on 16MB Max Memory Card for PS2 to find a solution I ve tried putting an audio CD in and then deleting the corrupted data Clearly that didn t work I have also tried to format the card but here s the thing I cannot find the option where it says to format I was hesitant to consider the option to format the card at first seeing as all my data will be deleted but I ll get rid of it all if that allows me to able to use this memory card I ve went into the memory card where i can look at all the data seeing if there are any format options- none I tried attaching a picture to show that the memory card does not have an option to format There are only two options quot Enter quot and quot Back quot Help anyone nbsp
Anyone? I really need help. This is driving me insane and I'd just like to deal with it and get it out of the way already. Please....heeeeelp. :/
I have a Compaq Presario SR1960AN which has 1024MB PC2-4200 DDR2 memory.
I purchased another 2 gig of memory and each time I have tried to add it the computer beeps and doesn't seem to load.
I have taken the original memory out and tried the new memory which didnt work either.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
did you check the new memory you purchased with the QVL to make sure it is compatible?
secondly, you didn't happen to buy something called 'high density ram' did you?
many times (and its advisable) that you use identical ram when adding memory, or at least the same brand, type (single sided, dual sided) capacity, timings, voltage, ect.
Hi there peeps,
I intend to buy 8 Gb of corsair vengeance memory and i would like to know if it is compatible with my mobo. My motherboard it the AsRock N68c-s ucc, its chipset is Nvidia, although i dont know if this makes a difference or not?? please respond asap
thankyou, Ace Rimmer.
You are going to use memory that cost 3 times as much as your motherboard. This doesn't make much sense. If you are using an AM3 CPU this memory should work
Hello this is my first post here so if i ve posted this in the wrong place i apologize I have a custom built pc problems Asus Deluxe P5Q memory running windows xp Asus P5Q Deluxe memory problems pro sp with an asus p q deluxe motherboard with two gig sticks of corsair xms memory mhz installed in the yellow slots This has ran fine for a couple of years but has slowed down a bit when a lot of programs are open so i bought more sticks of the same memory and installed them in the black memory slots and now the pc wont boot It will boot fine with sticks but not I have altered the voltage from to v which what it says on the sticker on the memory and the timings to that of the sticker - - - but no joy I have also removed the old memory and put in the new memory in its place and it doesnt post with the new memory The only difference i can see with the new memory is that its a different version no but would this stop it from posting Im now stuck as to what to do Does anyone have any ideas Thanks very much Pc specs asus p q deluxe Intel core duo ghz geforce gt windows xp sp soundblaster xfi xtreme music w power supply sata drives nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/asus-p5q-deluxe-memory-problems.167514/
My friend has purchased a 32GB Memory stick. We have stored a file on the device and confirmed that it is there but when we remove the stick and re-insert it we get "this folder is empty" but if we look at the memory it shows that an amount of memory equivalent to the size of the file has been used. What are we doing wrong please?
(I'm assuming that the 'memory stick' is not write-protected, because the available space was decreased after "the event")
Alright, I think I might've got the answer. But by 'memory stick' I presume that you mean either a USB-based flashdrive/thumbdrive, or a memory card like a Compact Flash card or a SD-card.
Because: my explanation will alter drastically if you mean that you actually tried storing a non-volatile piece of software on a volatile piece of hardware like a DDR RAM memory stick via 'pin modulation' etc.
Three explanations then, I'm assuming that you are using Windows. The explanation will be the same for most Macintosh and most Linux OS's (but not all).
"1." if you meant USB-drive instead of memory stick.
"2." if you meant memory card instead of memory stick.
"3." if you meant 'memory stick' as in RAM, Then my hat is off to you, sir.
1. You inserted a USB-drive, stored a file on it, removed it. Now the file is gone, but the space is occupied. How come?
Are you familiar with "Safely Remove Hardware"?
IF NOT: When you remove a USB-drive from the computer, you must (oftenmost) perform a 'Safe Removal'. If you look downright on your system tray when a USB-drive is inserted, you'll see a green arrow thingy called 'Safe Hardware Removal' or something like that. You will have to choose your USB-drive from a dropdown list when right-clicking this icon, in order to insure that your data stays on the disk when you remove it. A message will then pop up saying "It is now safe to remove your drive".
Take a look at this!
IF YOU ARE:
Are you sure you performed it? If you did, keep me posted!
More advanced explanation:
You see, when You wrote a file onto the memory, the cells inside the memory were charged in accordance with the data which you stored on the device. But keep in mind that the "name" of the file (more like the 'identity' of the file) is stored in a completely different way (in a volatile, non-permanent way) in order to enable a "possible" write of multiple files onto the device.
IF the device is removed without performing this "Safe Removal", then the data will stay intact, but the file's ID will end up as de-charged anti-neutrinos somewhere on the other side of cosmos. In other words: the PC will be un-able to identify the file, even though the data is there, and even though the data is occupying the total storage available.
You have now created something simply (and inaccurately) referred to as "Mémoire mort". Un-usable storage space, until reanimated using third-party software. Your file is there, but un-identifiable.
2. You inserted a memory card, stored a file on it, removed it. Now the file is gone, but the space is occupied. How come?
If you used an older OS like XP, this is something that happens from time to time as XP was not really designed with memory cards in mind (was it a kernel not being open enough? Never mind...).
If you simply removed the memory card as expected, but still cannot see the file, then you have not only lost the file's identity, but also the entire file.
Look at the advanced explanation on "1." -- but now instead of just the ID being stored in a completely different way, the entire file is stored in a volatile state. Without the 'Safe Removal' (which lacked serious support in XP for memory cards), the entire file is not written onto the memory chip/card. It also dissipates into anti-neutrinos unless I'm mistaken. BUT: the storage space which the file was used to 'inhabit', was 'reserved' for the file, and thus it was awaiting the file which didn't came = "Mé... Read more
So I m looking into the MSI P A-GD B motherboard for a new build I was looking at the specs and it says it supports DDR at MHz but that it would need to be OC d to get up to either the MHz speeds Basically I m wondering if it s worth it to OC for the speed and how exactly to do it Here are the specs of the build I m looking at Mobo MSI P A-GD B LGA Intel P SATA Gb s USB ATX Intel CPU Intel Core i - K Sandy Bridge GHz LGA W PSU OCZ ModXStream Pro W Modular High Performance PS Graphics MSI R Cyclone PE Radeon HD GB -bit GDDR PCI Express x HD HITACHI Deskstar TB RPM SATA Gb s quot So the main questions are a is it worth 1600MHz memory and P67A-GD65 support mobo it to go for the speed memory over the b what do I need to mess with to get the memory running at the full nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/p67a-gd65-mobo-and-1600mhz-memory-support.167044/
Hi , just wondering , I have a 4GB laptop (dell inspiron n5010) with i3 350 processor and 500 GB HD ... lately I wanted to play the most recent GTA and what happened ? well the game booted but barely have i gone out of the first corner the whole background disappeared ... I went to my graphics settings and it says Generic PnP Monitor and Intel(R) HD Graphics
-Chip type Intel HD
-Dac type Internal
-Bios info : Intel Video BIOS
-Total Available graphics memory 1696 MB
-Dedicated Video Memory 64MB
-System Video memory 0MB
-shared system memory 1632MB
Is there any way to increase the Video memory on my laptop ?
I will add to it that in the Bios itself there are no options available for me to even lower it they are all kind of @locked@
I have been trying everything even updates from intel etc but not helping...
All you can do is max out your system memory, if it isn't maxed already. There might be an option in the laptops bios to increase the shared video memory
Have joined to see if i can get some assistance noticed others have done this with success I have a seagate TB expansion Hard Drive which was firstly coming up with I O error and now the computer doesnt even register that its connected dispite connection noises from the drive itself on usb connection I have read through various topics and forums and carried out a number of the checks and processes to run through but still without success I have tried this on other laptops and issue is exactly the same I have another Buffulo expansion drive which is working fine in all USB ports The system is windows Vista and upgraded to service showing Seagate hard on not expansion computers drive pack I have cleaned up existing USB drivers on system also When disk management is opened the system doesnt read the drive is connected There is no excessive noises coming from drive but lights on and small amount of heat is given off Needing help as i use drive to back up important photos and files dont want them lost Can anyone help please nbsp
Sounds like the drive has failed as you had been getting warning signs with the I/O errors and now it has stopped working. There is a possibility that it is just the circuitry in the housing so you may be able to get it going again with a new housing. You could first test the drive by removing it from the housing and hooking it up to the internal connections of a desktop PC or by using a USB adapter.
sorry i like to seek your adivce on the following matter
i am using asus P7H55-M motherboard..i was actually using kingston 2x 2GB 1333MHz ram..recently i added 1 nex kingston 1x4GB 1333MHz ram..it was working fine until today when the com could not boot up..when i check, i found burnt mark on the 4GB ram and the memory slot..
my question are:
1) could i replace my motherboard if it is still under warrenty
2) could the burnt mark cause by the mismatching of the ram..
1) could i replace my motherboard if it is still under warrentyClick to expand...
I guess so, have you ever tried to establish the communication with the motherboard maker yet? Many of them has it own support lines that can provides the RMA informations.
2) could the burnt mark cause by the mismatching of the ram..Click to expand...
How? Did you actually force it to be seated in backward position? Look closely at the notch of RAM, they can only go one way, and you can feel the pressure of installing the ram if it goes in wrong way.
Motherboard type: Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L
it has 4 memory slots (2 red and 2 yellow)
I had 2x1G sticks of this type:
DIMM3: Mushkin 991529 (996529) 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)
And recently bought a 2GB stick:
DIMM1: Samsung M3 78T5663QZ3-CF7 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (6-6-6-18 @ 400 MHz) (5-5-5-15 @ 333 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)
Tried to connect all 3 together in any possible way but my PC wouldn't start or
reboot before windows gets to load.
I tried to pull out the old 2x1GB sticks and just put the new 2GB one and it
Now i installed 1GB+2GB and it works great but
i bought the new stick in order to have 4GB total, not 3.
Any way i can fix this? maybe i'm doing something wrong?
or could it be a bios problem? my bios version is F8 (2 updates behind the latest version)
All the memory sticks should be the same type and speed modules. Your speeds and manufacturers are different. Some motherboards are more sensitive to this than others
Hi, im finally going to upgrade my system in July and was wondering if anyone can suggest a new mainboard, CPU and memory. My budget is £150 for my mainboard, £230 for a new CPU and £100 for memory. I am leaning toward the Intel Core I7-2600 socket LGA1155 for my CPU choice. Anyone got any suggestions on what motherboard and memory would go good with my CPU choice?
How do you convert pounds into US dollars?
I was trying to backup some files by putting them on a memory stick and saving them onto another pc but the memory stick only works with the vista machine. in the past it did work with with does the fact that it has hardly no space on it have anything to do with that.
Thanks for any help
no.. space or remaining space is irrelevant.
what happens when you plug in the stick to the XP machine, does it see it, make any noises, etc
have you tried another USB device in the machine such as a camera, printer or webcam.
hello my name is kelly and I have a severe problem thats breaking my heart. I have a memory card that was full and while I was removing it from camera it shot out and dropped on the floor. now it reads memory card error. the photos on it are forever irreplacable. they were pics of my mother and I and my son and just five days after a family reunion I lost my mother unexspectidly. many of our last pictures are on that card. does anyone know anything about recovering those pictures? please help if you can the card has over 1000 pictures after it was damaged i noticed lines on the tiny metal strips that are not on any other of my discs i hope this is afixable issue thanks guys
Try the memory card on another computer... You really have to try real hard to damage these memory cards
