Laptop's Faulty Keyboard

Q: Laptop's Faulty Keyboard

Using a Sony Vaio Laptop, VGN-FE series, running on Windows XP Media Center w/ SP2

I joined to get a little hardware help..
About half the time I use my keyboard, the 'a', 's', 'k', 'b', '.', and '/' key wont operate.

They're not sticking, they just refuse to work. The only thing I can rationalize is a conducting issue, but like I said before: they only work about half the time. Im sure the keyboard doesn't just choose to conduct at times and stop at others.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you spilled any liquid on it? It could cause your keys to become sticky at the bottom.

My Notebook keyboard has stopped working. The touchpad appears to be ok. Also the battery light does not work although the battery charges ok. The virtual keyboard is ok. I have reset the unit back to factory settings which did not solve the problem. Windows 10 has been installed and uninstalled on the reset but the keyboard remained faulty. Everything was perfect until I passed through airport security a few days ago, although this unit has been through several times before. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all

I am completely stumped as my keyboard has gone haywire and am quite annoyed i cant fix it

Am running windows 7 on toshiba satellite pro laptop and was wondering if its a software or perhaps hardware issue.

Here is what is happening:

- Caps lock light doesnt stay on anymore but it flashes when i press it. It does still work properly though
- Left SHIFT key still works but when i press it.....it also creates this symbol ~ at the same time within UK keyboard. If i change to US keyboard then it enters the PIPE symbol.
- The ~ key above the tab key actually does this ?
- And the pipe key which is above the Enter key types this: #7

Does anyone have any idea on how i can sort this as its quite frustrating! Thanks for any ideas.

cheers

Hi there asklink, Welcome to Seven Forums.

A quick search around on Google finds that a lot of people are having the same issue or issues with the keyboard.

I was looking on the toshiba forums and they suggest you perform a BIOS update to fix this issue.

If you should experience the above issue on your notebook, please perform a BIOS Update in order to rectify the problem.

Please download and install the latest BIOS Update package for your model from the Toshiba driver download page: TOSHIBA PC BIOS Support Country Selector

Hi, just got hold of a NB100 netbook, apart from the keyboard being TINY! am having problems getting key presses to register, if you stab the keys down they work, however normally touch typing intermittantly registers.

over 4 people have tried in the office today and all have had the same issue with keys not registering. if you lightly press the key and feel when the button is depressed over and over it randomly misses!

Ive search these forums and nobody has had any issues, could it just be faulty?

Cheers

My HP m9457c desk top with OEM wireless keyboard and mouse has been driving me nuts. During "normal" operation the keyboard has five (5) keys which when individually selected launch one of the following: Club hp, IE home page, mail, IE default Search page, or HP Help program. They still function when I select them...However, starting approximately 30-90 days ago, they started selecting themselves w/o my asking for them. Usually it is the HP help program that launches. Not as often comes the IE Search ( Google) pop up. This occurs whether or not I'm on the internet. Could be just playing a game or typing a letter in Word. Replaced batteries in keyboard and mouse-no fix. Not 100% certain the problem is the wireless. Avast reports no virus present. MY OS: Win Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. Need help please.

A:Faulty Wireless Keyboard

You may be having troubles with your device drivers, firmware, and/or software. Go to Device Manager by going to start / search box and type device manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears. Check each device for a red x, yellow ! or white ?. These identify devices with problems (probably drivers, but also conflicts or something else). Click on each for further details and troubleshooting tips. If you need to get drivers (and you should do so for at least the keyboard and the wireless adapter (not just drivers but firmware and software as well, if applicable) and any others you have time to do - they may help in ways beyond just resolving this problem), do so from the computer vendor or device manufacturer (NOT from Microsoft Updates). Proceed as follows to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm. Once you have the drivers, you can install them through Device Manager as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I have a DELL Inspiron 6400 Laptop which I bought new about 7 years ago and the R letter on the keyboard does not function When I press it in the center like typing normally it does not type but if I press it on the right or top edge it works (sometimes)

Following the instructions I removed the keyboard but all the keys are part of one membrane and I donít want to go any further in case I damage the membrane

What are my options? Is the membrane easily removed and will I be able to fix it?

Should I order a new keyboard from Dell or try to get a used one?

Is a new keyboard expensive?

I have recently purchased a new blue flexible keyboard (US Layout with Kanji) anyway the left ctrl key (it only has one ctrl key) appears to have stopped working. It defintily worked until i changed the keyboard layout from uk to us in regional and language options. i'm pretty sure that isnt the issue though, because im on a completely different pc (with xp, uk layout) right now and the ctrl key still doesnt work.

Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas? a keyboard tester of some variety perhaps?

I have a Benq 8000 that is as dead as a dodo.
The external power supply is fine, and testing pickups for the battery suggests there is power there, but otherwise it's dead.
I have swapped part between it and my old Sony Vaio laptop, well at least parts that are compatible, and everything seems to be working. Clearly I can't swap the mainboard and this has led me to suspect a faulty mainboard.
Trouble is I can't identify it to find a replacement. The middle of the board has the following information:

DA0PM1MB8D1 REV

and on the back

TPT MV-0
94V-0E88441
0309

But I can't find this with a google search or a reference to what the BENQ Joybook 8000 mainboard might be.

Anyone have any ideas?

A:My faulty Laptop

I share your doubts about the "resistors and capacitors".

With amost all components being surface mount, bery little on the motherboard is "serviceable" to that extent.

But if it is new, why are you paying for service? Revert to XP and if it still persists send it back under warranty. And don't use cracked software.

Defeating the activation is a breach of the forum rules, so expect the post to be closed at any stage.

Hi all, I have just picked up a faulty fujitsu laptop. Amilo Li. model number ms2228
It appently was vista but someone had put windows 7 on it ... so they tell me.
they said it jsut went off one day but think they are telling porkies. anyway....

booted up to just the fujisu screen then went black screen with flashing curser top left of the screen.
I thought it was just the os needed reinstalling. I have tried to reinstall windows 7. the install starts ok & gets as far as 75% or thereabouts. but when it needs to reboot while installing the files, the reboot just starts right back at the beginning. so it seems that whenever i try to boot there is no continuation.
hope i have explained this ok. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

So someone I know had me look at a laptop of theirs, an ASUS X54C laptop, which has 2 GB of non-removable RAM built into the motherboard. I used memtest86+ to check it and it immediately came back with all sorts of errors.

From the outside (minus the cover for access to the HD and RAM slots) there does not appear to be any additional RAM installed at all (the slots are empty). So I was wondering, by chance, if you add RAM into one of these slots, does the motherboard stop using the on-board RAM and switch over to the stuff you put into the slot, or does it use both the on-board and "off-board" RAM side by side?

A:Faulty Laptop Video Card

The low level functions of the video card use a vga vesa driver
that does not activate the hardware accelleration.
The problems you ar e having when the driver loads indicates
bad hardware and not a driver problem.
Being as it is a 6800 go card,it is probably replacable.
It would need to be replaced with the exact same type of card,
but not necessarily the same model.
If you want to try a newer driver, you would need to uninstall the old
one from start/control panel/add remove programs.
Download a driver here.

My mother-in-law has a laptop that's needing reimaged, which is okay, can do but the screen is broken, only the left hand side of the screen is working. She's been running an external monitor via VGA for the past few months so it's just the screen that's cracked not a faulty graphics card.

Question is, will the external display still work if I reimage the laptop at all or will I have to use the half dead screen to reimage it until I get the graphics drivers reinstalled?

Hi everyone,

I've had a search through the posts on the forum, and haven't really come up with anything to answer my question. I do apologise if I have missed it though!

Basically, I have installed Win 7 Prof Upgrade (from XP) on my MacBook via Bootcamp. However, this MacBook has developed a fault and is being replaced by Apple, who are sending me a new laptop.

My question: will I be able to reinstall the Win 7 upgrade (once XP is installed again of course) on my new laptop?

I'd appreciate any help or advice, many thanks in advance!

Hi all,

My laptop has had a 'wobbly' power socket in the back, which has finally given up altogether. I took it to a repair shop who had it for two days and when I got it back they said I would have to keep it plugged in all the time, I couldn't take the cable out as it would happen again. So I have kept it plugged in but its gone again. My hubby opened it up and found out they had just soldered the power connector back in, and it had just weakened and fell off.

So now hubby thinks I have to buy a new motherboard and PSU, is this right or is it something I can get fixed?

Thanks guys,
Tess

Hi,
I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

Thanks,
Marlon

I believe drivers? faulty BSOD 116 card or graphics faulty the initial crash was caused by overheating Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time more on that later Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine I can boot into safe mode and I have already reinstalled windows My motherboard is Asus B M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV A GTX How I got it to work for a short amount of time I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed

I currently have a XPS 12-9Q33 laptop that is not charging. The light at the end of the power adapter is no longer lighting up so it appears to be faulty. I've called Dell to purchase a new adapter but was told that they no longer sell replacements for them and was recommended to buy an adapter from a 3rd party source.
I purchased a replacement with the same voltage and amperage that is supposed to work on a XPS 12. The laptop now powers on but will not charge. The BIOS states that the adapter is unknown and will not allow it to charge.
What can I do now? I find it really frustrating that I cannot get a direct replacement from Dell themselves so I'm stuck with a laptop that is not portable at all since the battery is at 0%

A:XPS 12 Power Adapter Faulty. Cannot charge laptop.

Third party adapters usually do not have required logic circuit to complete the batter charging loop.  It's easy to find genuine, OEM Dell adapters:

I got a new laptop recently (this past Sunday) and ever since I turned it on I've had horrible issues with WiFi. It's tothe point where I'm ready to return it to the store and just go without a computer. Keep in mind I'm not very tech savvy, so I might not know what you're talking about.

It's very slow and won't stay connected to the internet. 4/5 times it doesn't load the web page I'm trying to load and after about 5 minutes after powering on it disconnects from my Wi-Fi and refuses to reconnect. The troubleshooter says it's a router issue but resetting the router doesn't do anything at all and no other device in the house is having any issues. I haven't downloaded ANYTHING to it yet. In addition, when it /does/ connect to my Wi-Fi, trying to open any web page brings me to a "you are not connected to the internet" notice.

I have no idea what to do. I need a computer for work but I'm so sick of having problems with them.

A:Brand new laptop; faulty wifi process?

Set up the laptop next to the router where the signal should be strongest. Are you sure that you are connecting to your own wi fi network and router? When you switch on the laptop it will search for in range networks and when you spot your own you are asked to give the password before you can use the internet for the first time. If that's not happening maybe its logging you on to a neighbouring unsecured network (no password set) where the signal is weak. If I click on the wireless icon bottom right in my taskbar it brings up a choice of available networks. My icon looks like a set of steps and so the icon shows how strong the signal is. Check that you are connecting to your own router and see how strong the signal is. You mention other devices that work OK but haven't given any details.

A:Faulty DVD drive on high-grade laptop

I can't find W76S on Hi-Grade's site, so I don't know what extras the laptop has. And their FTP server for driver download appears to be offline. Do you still have the CD/DVD w/ device drivers that came with the laptop? Perhaps try reinstalling the drivers for the webcam, card-reader, etc. from that disc.

The other option is take a look at Device Manager. Look at the properties for those w/ exclamation marks. There should be a Details tab. Select Hardware Ids under Property, and you should get couple things in the Value box. Hopefully, the 1st one will help you identify the make and from there, the right driver. If not, try using the 2nd value.

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

Hi First off I posted in here because my problem mainly had to do with Networking Driver issues before it went into Laptop Freezing Adapter Problems Wireless + (Faulty?) computer freezes and stuff like that so feel free to move this thread if I'm wrong One of my laptops has been facing a driver issue recently and it's driving me crazy it's the laptop I bring for education study purposes this one I'm using to post is a giant and not exactly portable - Alienware Malfunctioning Laptop specs Dell Inspiron Windows -bit GB RAM It all started when the wifi suddenly disappeared from my network center only to discover it having (Faulty?) Wireless Adapter Problems + Laptop Freezing problems in Device Manager exclamation mark After trying to disable and renable it to test it disappeared until several minutes later when it randomly shows itself and it was working for a while until the laptop suddenly decided to freeze on me No crash reports no error messages just couldn't move the mouse or use anything Restarting the laptop randomly brought it back on a few occasions but it would freeze nevertheless after a couple minutes of use System Restore didn't work and every time I tried to quot Scan for hardware changes quot in Device Manager to try and regain the default driver when one of my restarts didn't bring it back it froze over and over After uninstalling the wifi adapter through an external program - Driver Booster however the computer no longer froze and I could use it normally just without wifi which I need I tried installing the latest driver version from the Dell website in order to try and bring it back but it failed at first appearing to only install the Bluetooth suite before a few minutes later again it would randomly show up and bring back the same problems freezing Have I just been trying to fix a faulty wireless adapter card all this time

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

Hey guys!

I recently got a Casio keyboard, with a new MIDI cable.

I'm a music artist and I'm totally new with this 'keyboard-to-computer-via-MIDI' stuff.

I don't know how to connect my Casio Keyboard to my computer with a MIDI cable. I've mostly been using Mixcraft's music library, but I want to start something new with my new keyboard.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can connect my keyboard to my laptop via MIDI?

I've looked at other forum posts and contacted a few music artists..........they had nothing.

Please help!

Thanks!

Hey I am pretty desperate usb does fine not keyboard but keyboard works work with laptop now as I recently got a new Lenovo z laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard ideapad laptop which i think its months old only All of the sudden one day the shift laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard key started to automatically been pressed down as if its like its being 'possessed' in simple terms and it happened at random times After much forums some say hold shift key down for secs or x amount of secs disable sticky keys filter keys bounce keys or even continue press shift keys continuously etc etc Did all those disabled sticky keys bounch keys filter keys and now whenever i on my comp the shift key will automatically be pressed down so i have to hold the shift key for like - secs to disable it than it works fine and no more occurence However a new problem occurs now certain keys on the laptop is not working like the right shift key when the right shift key is pressed down none of the letters are being capital or none of the symbols are showing BUT the left shift key does the job Than the left shift key could not caps the letter z t y m and a few more but it works prefectly fine with other keys Now i am pretty sure its not a keyboard malfunction because without pressing caps all the keys are fine but only these certain keys wont be caps when the left shift key is pressed So i decided to use an external keyboard and everything works out fine right shift key is working left shift key caps those letters which could not be caps on the laptop So what is the problem actually and how to solve it is it a keyboard driver or software problem or hardware problem Novice here Ps now i know you guys would say send in for warranty but I'm now in Australia and unfortunately i bought this machine in malaysia and my international waranty wont work cause my model is not sold in Australia yea bloody stupid for calling international warranty thanks and hope you guys could somehow help out

A:laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard

The fact that a USB keyboard works fine when your built in one doesn't, proves that it is the keyboard itself (or connectors) that is damaged/defective, otherwise, if it were a software problem, the external keyboard would do the same.

Hi, I do a lot of typing at night time and the click of my keyoard's keys can be quite noticeable when there is pure silence. I have a Logitech K520 which isn't so loud but I would really love a keyboard that has the same type of keys as my Samsung laptop which are practically silent. Most laptops I've tried have similar keyboards in that the key doesn't travel far at all and there is no 'clicky' sounds either.

I have no idea what I would search for as I don't know what the style of keyboard is called. There are various names on the market, 'soft touch', 'quiet touch', 'low profile' etc etc but nothing that specifically identifies a laptop style.

I would just like a wireless laptop keyboard basically, even if it's the same size as a laptop keyboard but preferrably full sized.

Thanks very much for any advice

Hi, I have an old Time laptop (so getting any drivers/chipsets will be a pain) that I'm using as a Home Theatre PC under my TV. I can wake up from standby with its power button, but not from its keyboard. Also, I can't do this using my Microsoft Wireless Desktop Keyboard, connected via USB (laptop doesn't have any PS2 ports).

I want to be albe to keep the laptop lid closed at all times and placed above my VCR, so having to open it every time I want to wake from standby is not ideal.

I've looked at all the APM properties for m/board and keyb but nothing. The BIOS says nothing about power management either.

Running Win XP SP2

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,

Everything was working fine. Suddenly, when I typed on the usb keyboard, nothing happened. So I put it in a different usb port on the laptop, and it still didn't work. So I tried the laptop's own keyboard and still nothing. I'm not sure what is going on.

I tried deleting the keyboard driver from Device Manager but that did nothing. I tried searching for this problem but all the results seem to not apply to this specifically.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also... I'm a n00b that knows very little about computers so bear with me

W7 log no suggest Cannot log in to W7 laptop ? unresponsive keyboard and no on-screen keyboard a workaround solution Cannot log in to W7 laptop ? unresponsive keyboard and no on-screen keyboard to an issue I currently have with a Windows Home Premium laptop This is an old laptop that I only use from time to time but it still has a number of files and photos on it that I don't have saved elsewhere Last time I used the laptop it was acting as if the Ctrl key was being pressed every - seconds which made the keyboard difficult to use because it triggered shortcuts as I tried to type Ctrl O Ctrl S etc Because I don't use the laptop as my main machine I decided that I'd uninstall the keyboard driver from within the Control Panel and just use the on-screen keyboard going forward Following this I powered the machine on a couple of days ago and panicked when I discovered that I couldn't get the Ease of Access dialog box to display on the login screen to allow me to enable the on-screen keyboard It doesn't produce any kind of error it simply does nothing when the button located in the left-hand corner is clicked At this point I was still hopeful that I could get around the issue by connecting a standard USB keyboard but this is also completely unresponsive although it does appear to be getting power from the laptop because the Caps Lock indicator light is lit I've tried a few alternatives connecting the keyboard before powering up during the start up process and also at the log in screen Additionally in the hope that it would automatically install a driver in the background and eventually allow the keyboard to function I left the machine running for about minutes but still nothing So just to confirm the machine has only a single user account set up on it which is password protected I can't proceed past the log in screen at all the laptop's default keyboard is unresponsive Ease of Access OSK dialog box will not display and the standard USB keyboard I have here doesn't appear to be helping either I also considered trying the above in safe mode before realising that I couldn't even do that without a keyboard unless there's another way of accessing this that I'm not aware of Any ideas - Thanks

If you are just interested in recovering your data to save elsewhere you could purchase an external enclosure for about $8.00 at Newegg, remove the HDD from the laptop and install it in the external enclosure.  You can then attach it to another computer via a USB cable (which comes with the enclosure) and access your data to recover what you want.

I'm thinking about taking and old laptop and retrofitting it with a mini motherboard to use as a server at my new apartment. I would like to use the keyboard and monitor on the laptop case to keep the overall size down but I can't find any reference as to how you connect standard motherboard connectors (video and PS2(keyboard)) to the connectors found on the laptop monitor and keyboard. If anyone knows where I can find these connectors or specs on how to make them I would really appreciate it. If the mod gets done it will probably be pretty impressive and I'll give you credit for your troubles. Thanks

I just installed a new hard drive in my computer (upgraded to a 1TB,) re-installed Windows 8, everything seems to be going great...except...

It seems like my keyboard is ultra sensitive...? That's the best way I know how to describe it. When I rest my hands where I normally do and start typing, especially if I'm going super fast, it seems like keys I'm not pressing get 'pressed', or the cursor just moves to another place on the screen randomly. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it's doing this or what I can do to make it stop. It's very very frustrating!!

A:Laptop keyboard

Danshibai,
The quick down and dirty answer because it's a brand new keyboard is no. I would RMA it asap. See if they will charge another keyboard, to credit later once the defective keyboard is returned. These sticky keys can be manipulated so I'm told, but every time I've tried it has remained the same or gotten worse or jacked up the mounts as to make installing the key back impossible. Don't mess with a good RMA ! Oh you can try holding the keyboard upside down and blasting light blasts of air under the Z key but likely its the return spring is bad or needs to be pulled up.

Opinions?
Makes me think there is something wrong with the motherboard, but then again all the other keys work. Its a EXTREMELY strange problem.

Does the Kb work when you are in the CMOS?BIOS setup pages?
If yes then you might have some corruption in the O/S a system restore or previously good startup may be in order.
If it does not ,You might have to send the Lptp in for service.
Also check the Setup for anything that might shutoff the onboard Kb to use an external KB especially docking settings, etc.

Im trying to fix my mom's laptop she has a Dell Inspiron 1200. And for some reason when you type on it you get an extra letter, for example when you press 'a' you get 'as' or 'sa'. I dont know whether this could be a software problem, or just a dumb hardware thing. Anyone have an idea what the problem is? and if it's even fixable? Thanks much guys.

A:Laptop keyboard mix up

Hi!

Yes, it could be either. However, my experience with the 1200’s indicates a failing keyboard and/or a keyboard that has had something spilt on, even a little splatter of something sticky can cause this.

To eliminate a “software” issue, it would be best to boot into another OS or piece of software that will allow you to type. Even if you just download the Linux Ubuntu Live CD and boot to it. Then open Open Office and type all the letters on the keyboard to see if it still occurs.

Sorry, the Ubuntu Live CD is the 1st thing that popped into my mind for a bootable OS or program that would allow you test. I’m sure there are other programs out there that would allow you to do this too.

Thanks……………. Shane

Ok, here's the lowdown:

My younger sister spilled pop on her laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520) and has since cleaned it up with a little water on a paper towel. I knew this is not enough, but she insisted it was fine. Only, when she went to type, her keys were wrong.

For example, the 'A' key puts in letters such as 'FDLKS'. This happens on the left side of the keyboard, which is where the pop spilled. The right side seems to work just fine.

I know that taking apart the computer and taking out the keyboard might be the way to go, but do any of you have any suggestions as to how to clean it? And if that is not possible, where would be a good place to get a replacement keyboard?

Thanks!

How do you install a new keyboard on a Toshiba Setallite A135- laptop?

A:Laptop Keyboard

toshiba's website may have service instructions. also consider the age of the piece. it may not be worth messing with.

Most laptops have hordes of screws (Dell latitude models have 65+ screws in 6 different types) and you have remove many types of them to get to the keyboard. if they are marked in any way, draw circles on a piece of paper. Mark the circles for the screw type (motherboard, keyboard, disk drive, lcd ...). put the screws you remove into the proper circle and don't move the paper until you have completely reassembled the laptop.

Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive and other loose parts first. Look for notches that show where you can gently pry apart pieces of plastic to access the hardware below.

If they are similar to Dell, there are 4-5 screws marked as KB. Remove those and the bezel piece between keyboard and LCD panel. Carefully lift up the keyboard, noting how it connects to the mainboard. Most use a mylar strip with connectors embedded. You may need to figure out how to unlock the connection in order to remove the strip. Some systems use a 2 part connector. Move one side of the connector and it unlocks. Do not force the connector apart by pulling on the cable. That will ruin the connector.

Reassemble in the reverse order.

As a workaround, try using a regular keyboard plugged into the usb or ps/2 port.

Which same thing? Keys not working or the wrong letter being displayed. You can probably plug an external keyboard into the back of your Laptop and see if the problem stops when using that keyboard. If not it may be a software problem and you may need to scan for viruses and spywhere.

Sure your not touching the touchpad? (which is the same as left clicking with the mouse button on a lot of laptops).
If not, you need to give more examples!

A:Fix keyboard buttons on laptop?

usually the buttons are mounted with clips. I may work if you put them in the correct position and press them down careful but with a little more intensity

My original sentence before I made corrections read "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog."
This is the way the sentence looked before I made corrections "The quiwnck bro f.fped ogver the lazyx o jum do

All keys work perfectly, except the combination of:

SHIFT + LEFT ARROW + DOWN ARROW
I can press any combo, any combo of 10 keys, but those 3 completly don't work. If I press those 3, nothing happens at all on the computer. NOTHING. ABOSLUTELY NOTHING! It doesnt do the left arrow action, or the down arrow, it just.. SITS.

Hi all,

I was wondering if it is possible or particularily unadvisable to change my laptop keyboard to one by a different manufacturer?

I've recently got a new laptop (Acer Aspire 5742G) and all is grand, except for the fact that I can't stand having a keyboard with a numpad. The arrow keys are too small and the Fn + whatever keys are all in places I don't like.

This isn't a big problem or anything, I'm just curious to know if anyone has done it.

Thanks,
StubbyHS

P.S I know I cant just buy an external keyboard. I'm talking about replacing the internal keyboard the laptop has on it

Hi stubbyhs, I'm afraid you will find all laptop keyboards are like that, I don't know what would happen if you tried a standard size usb keyboard plugged in ait works with a mouse so possible I suppose never tried it
