Solved: OS partition expansion...

Q: Solved: OS partition expansion...

I've read a thread after thread with instructions of this, but right now, when I need the info, I can't find any with the specific question I'm facing(and asking from you). Sorry for the inconvinience, people.
Basically, I only made a 36 GB partition for my OS (XP). Now I want to take some of the space on Ethe other, 663 G, partition) and add it to the C: drive. Is this possible with a bit over 80 Gs of stuff on the E? Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On 1 hdd I have three partitions. My main drive is C. I have a partition I cleared out and formatted. I want to add the clean partition to the C partition. How do I do this in Windows 7? Or do I need an outside source for this?

I decided to delete the hidden Asus restore partition from my cloned hard drive. The drive had 2 partitions, the hidden one, then the C: drive (with system and data).

This was before I found out that the Windows 7 Disk Management tool will not allow you to expand a partition to the left.

So now I have 15 GB of space at the start of the drive and the only option on the C: drive is to shrink the partition.

Any way using Windows to add that space to my primary partition?

A:Partition expansion

You need to use a third party tool to move your partition to the start of the drive, then windows will let you expand it to fill the drive.

i've got a couple expansion slots on my new system and i am at a loss as to what they are. i got the numbers off the manufacturers website and googled them and found tons of info but it all was way above my head. they almost look like two little pull out drawers you could put hard drives in then plug them back in, but a hard drive doesnt quite fit. here's a link if you want to take a look at the whole system.http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668232.php you can't really see the slots in any of the pictures though, they are about 2/3 down from the top, on the font of the computer, right below the rca jacks that you see folded out. can anyone tell me what these are for in non-techy terms?
thanks

hi guys,

i have a clone box...horrible thing!!! it had a power supply that blew...and i replaced the power supply
then it was freezing after a few minutes of operation...truly freezing clock didnt change

i narrowed it down to the front usb ports...in fact none of the usb seemed to work...and yes...i did check in the bios
and everything was enabled except legacy usb...but this didnt make a difference
as soon as i plugged usb in it froze

so i disabled USB and added a pci usb expansion card
now im getting unknown device usb errors and the big black usb icon in the task bar.

is the card still using aspects of the on board usb...or is it totally seperate...?
do you think the card is gone too?

any suggestions...please

Hi everybody. I have a question a bit strange/or difficult! I'm using Dell Dimension E521. I have 4 (four) slots to add more RAM memory. I have it filled with 4 (four) 512 MB RAM modules. I have a feeling that I need a bit more. What can I do? My motherboard supports only 2 gigabytes all together. Wondering if there is anything I can buy (a link for the item please) to add another 2 gigabytes? It can be something what I can plug in to one of my USB outlets. Or do you think the existing 2046 MB of RAM memory is enough for me?
(How difficult would it be to install a different motherboard? I donít really understand what can I do with a Processor chip itself?)

My case has these two expansion ports in front, hidden behind removable plastic covers. There's metal grating over it (as you should be able to see below) but it looks like that could be snapped off really easily with a pair of pliers.

Here's a picture:
So, my question is, what can I put in these expansion ports? It looks like Zip drives and front-mounted USB ports would be too large. The only thing I can think of would be extra floppy drives, and who needs that in this day in age?

A:Solved: Mini Expansion Bays

these would also fit hdd's. Which is really what they are designed for. You can get 3 1/2" cards to go in them as well, such as front mounted usb, sound card outputs, etc. which is why they have the removeable metal and plastic covers. Yes if you wanted to, you could put a floppy drive in there as well

I recently purchased a brand new Dell T3500 Precision Workstation. My existing internal 3.5" HD is fine. I have an external USB HD plugged into an internal USB port and mounted inside the chassis. I find it is not large enough for my needs. I want to get a new HD, internal or otherwise, to replace it. My computer has space for another 3.5" HD with SATA interface. Would that suffice if I got another 3.5" SATA HD? IF not, I have an eSATA port on the rear panel of my computer...how would I use that for my needs?

Ultimate goal: second hard drive of 250 gb or more...preferably internal.

Here's my dilemma:

I have a generic $50 case, and no video card.

I am shopping for a cheap video card, so I can play some Half Life 2 type stuff.

before buying the card I tried to hook up a PCI network card, but there's no way to secure the card to the chassis with a mounting screw. I've messed around with video/sound/network cards many times before, but have never seen a case with no screws.

I've attached a pic of my expansion slots if it helps at all. As you can see there's no holes to screw a card down, and those funny looking clip things don't line up with anything.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but google can't even help me out cause I don't really know what I'm looking at, or what I need to fix this problem.

If this The Sims original... you would need to install them in order that they came out, so if you have an expansion pack that is newer than Making Magic, you have to use that disc instead.

I'm trying to recover my partition table using MniniTool Partition Wizard. I tried running the Partition Recover Wizard which listed the 2 partitions on my disk i.e. ACER and SYSTEM RESERVED. It also listed the hidden PQSERVICE partition which comes with factory settings. The ACER and PQSERVICE partitions are listed as "Lost/Deleted" and SYSTEM RESERVED is "Existing".

However when I try to select all these partitions so I can recover and keep them all, the status of SYSTEM RESERVED changes from "Existing" to "Overlapped" and I can't select it anymore. When I move to the next step it tells me that it'll have to delete the SYSTEM RESERVED partition.

I don't know if i should go ahead and do so. or if it will just make things worse. What should I do?

Hi
As the topic says; after installation of a fresh copy from the original disc win7, my second partition "D" has been renamed itself to the Recovery Partition. You can see it only in the application "Disk Management". I do not have access into it at all. When I click the right mouse button ?help? option appears only . There are very important files to me.
I tried to use EASEUS Partition Master but I'm afraid of losing data.
Please help.

A:[SOLVED] After win7 install, 2nd partition has renamed itself to Recovery Partition

Have you taken the install disc out ? Sounds dumb but the d: partition is generally a reserved partition and indicates your CD-ROM drive, to me it looks like your install disc, the file system is UDF which is universal disc format, you have two recovery partitions on top. Remove the disk, reboot. Then choose a different letter other than D for your recovery partition.. Best to start with z

The fact that the file encryption is UDF, you will not have the ability to modify it, its not NTFS, FAT or FAT32.

After creating another prim partition on C: i went ahead and did the 2003 server install on the 2nd partition and rebooted the computer. unfortunatly now i can only boot into 2003 server and not into window xp. while in 2003 server i can't even see the partition but for s and g's i threw an xp boot disk in the computer just to see if the other partition was still there and it showed something like OS/2 INACTIVE.

just wondering if anyone had some advice to get the other partition up and running or if i will have to purchase partition magic to merge the partition back and lose all the data.

After extending my win7 partition to the full hard drive I was unable to boot. "No boot filename received." When running setup repair "The partition table does not have a valid system partition" would be the problem, and it said it was fixed. But when I run repair again the same thing comes up.

After a little bit of googling I think the problem might be that I deleted a small partition set aside by windows with important files inside but I have no idea, if thats the problem, how to fix it.

No mate it wont, SATA built onto the boad runs at 150 ATA theoretically but the add in cards are still limited by the PCI bus which impose the same limit as IDE chips so the most you would get would be 133, personally I never found a difference with SATA built in until I put 2 drives in a raid stripe.

How do I expand my C drive??..Here is a pic of disk management..

A:Expansion

25GB is the recommended disk space for a window 8 consumer preview install, your C: drive just isn't big enough unless you wipe your OS that's all ready on it and you wouldn't want to do that, only install windows 8 on a test machine or as dual boot install in my opinion.

It looks like you have enough space on your E: drive where you could create a 25GB blank partition and then you could install Windows 8 consumer preview there, if not then get another or bigger hard drive.

You could also make a ghost image of your C: drive, get a bigger C: hard drive, reghost your C: drive back onto the new bigger hard drive and then create a blank partition on it of 25GB or bigger and install windows 8 there, that's above my head though and could be kind of hard to do.

have 4 ide devices on my home pc. I have heard of ide expansion cards that allow additional devices to be added (I have 2hd's and a cd and cdrw) I would like to put the cdrw on its own port. Can anyone explain how this works - or point me in a direction where I can find the necessary info.

A:ide expansion

Yes- An IDE Controller card will add 4 additional device capapbility- one I am familiar with called Promise Ultra 100, TX2- but there are others. Use any search engine for "IDE Controller Cards" should get you needed info. Installing the Promise Ultra 100 is fairly easy if you follow instructions. You may not have any spare IRQ's with 4 devices already. Should be some information in the search articles about this. Cost is around $25 at most PC supply sites. Bought one at computer show for $23. Most use PCI slot- sure you have one that is free- and not the shared slot.
When installed, they show up as a SCSI device.

My computer came with one great big partition, with XP Home installed on it. For four months all my data got stored on that same partition. Then I got partition magic, and decided to make a separate partition for all my files. This turned out to be too small, after I'd transfered all my music, plus my work files to it. I then tried to repartition the drive, taking most of the spare space from the XP drive and giving it to the data drive.
Just as it started to widen the Data drive, and after shrinking the XP drive, it crashed. Now XP doesn't boot, and my data partition is corrupted too.
I've been daft and so have no backup of my data, and no partition magic back-up floppies. Is there anyway I can get the data back?

If it's any help, Ubuntu is also on the laptop, and working fine.

Do you have the installation CD? If so, "BART PE" may be the solution. I have used it with success. Here is the link: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

I have a HP pavillon dv4000 laptop. I recently bought a HP xb2000 Notebook Expansion Base. On the box it says it would be compatible with my laptop if it has a a Expansion Port 2. I dont believe my laptop has this accessory because the plug doesnt look anything like the ports on my laptop. I was wondering if there is another accessory i can buy so that this expansion base will work with my laptop. The wireless keyboard and mouse obviously work but i can buy that anywhere and save a lot more money. Does anyone know if i can buy another accessory to make this base work? i would GREATLY appreciate it!!

A:HP Expansion Base

expansion port 2 is not an accessory, it is a connector soldered onto the motherboard, if you'rs doesn't have it then you're out of luck

if your's has it... the expansion port will be on the left side of the laptop

I have had a seagate 500gb expansion drive for two years and never had a problem, then yesterday I turned it on, the led indicator lit for a second and the disc started and continued spinning but with no sign of it in file explorer, after several more efforts the same result, I tried other usb sockets then a friends laptop with the same results I am puzzled the way the green LED lights up but for only 0.5 of a second, that together with the seemingly intact rotation of the platter gives me hope but then I know nothing of IT hardware therefore I?m hoping that someone can advise me either way whether I may be able to get a quick and (cheapish) repair or if my doom monger friend is correct by suggesting a professional retrieval can be eye-wateringly expensive regardless of the amount of data saved. Again a pre-emptive Thank you to any prospective.

i'm afraid to say it but it might have something to do with your save game file being corrupted or there is somehow a bug in it, if you start a new game, does the problem still exist? also did you download any patches available for the game? i know it was newly released so i don't know if any exist yet but at least check.

Alright, so I've basically installed everything and patched it and have the CD in the drive but when I start up the game, the game's logo shows up and then it suddenly goes.... "Age of Empires II expansion has Stopped working..." blah blah blah. I've ran some old games and they worked I don't know why AoE II doesn't....

Tried Compatibility Windows 98 and XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1 *No idea why*
Tried reinstalling both of them, patched them already, my anti-virus doesn't interfere with it or anything, tried running in 256 colours and still crashes, also ran as Administrator and it doesn't work..

Can anyone help me?

Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, 4gigs of memory, nVidia 9500 GT 256mb and Home Vista Premium x64/x86 and current Monitor settings is 1680 by 1050
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...mer/tskmgr.jpg
Also this is my Task Manager, i don't think any of those interfere with it running the game..

A:Age of Empires II and Expansion

After reading your post I tried to start my old installation of AoE2 (on storage-HD) and it did run perfect. The basic game (empires2.exe) as well as the expansion (age2_x1/age2_x1.exe) required only the acceptal of the EULA (license and stuff) since I didn't installed the game properly on Vista. But everything else worked fine. So it may be a problem with your version of Vista or maybe even the system.

I had some troubles recently with older games because the programs had insufficient rights to access files... try "run as administrator" on the empires2.exe (not the shortcut), but that's only a vague guess...
Good luck!

No?l

Hi,

I have a Compaq Proliant 1600 running Windows NT 4.0 server and 2 logical drives on a raid 5 array.

I have just added a new 9.1GB disk (same as the other 5) and run the Compaq array config utility. This has happily added the new disk to the array and restripped the data. However, NT isn't showing any more free disk space.

I had this happen when I added the 5th disk and I know I had to do something else to get NT to see the extra space, but I don't remember what.

Anyone got any ideas?

Many thanks

A:RAID 5 Expansion

My only experience with a Compaq RAID-5 array was that 5 drives was the maximum it would manage, the 6th was simply a spare that hung around until one of the other drives failed. I may be off-base here, since it's been awhile since I worked with the Compaq server, just an observation.

Closing thread, as stated below:

Circumventing Copy Protection - While we believe it's reasonable to make backup copies of CDs and DVDs that you own, a lot of people break copy protection for the wrong reasons. The law is still vague, at best, as to if it is legal to break copy protection in order to make such a backup, even for personal use. (The DMCA, for example, seems to make it illegal.) As a result, we do not allow discussion of how to break copy protection at this time. If we can find a nice way to draw the line, we may reconsider this in the future as laws get sorted out.

Hello,

I have Windows ME and my C drive is not big enough to hold the game so it is loaded on my D drive (slave drive).

How can I get the expansion pack loaded if it can't find the orginal Sims game on the D drive? (my cd disk drive is E).
Thank you for your help!

A:can't load game expansion

Your original Sims installation might not be in the place the expansion is looking...You could try going to Start->Search->Search for Files and Folders and then look for the directory the original is installed at.

The expansion needs to be installed in the same drive and directory as the original...So if the original is in the C: drive, the expansion must be in the C: drive too.

The expansion might be trying to install in C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims\, when the original was installed in C:\The Sims\, for example. Or, the original might be in the D: drive and the expansion is looking for it in the C: drive.
EDIT: Just thought of this...if the expansion you have installed already is NEWER than Double Deluxe, than Double Deluxe might not install properly...In that case, you might have to uninstall/reinstall the game and install the expansions in the order they were released.

I have previously had all sims 2 expansion packs work happily on my computer. The problem is trying to load them onto the e drive. Is there a particular way of creating folders within the e drive that would help?At tthe moment its like expansion packs can't find original sims 2 to 'talk to'.

I have a 3g usb seagate expansion drive that is about 3 mths old. It has frequently disappeared from my computer. I would have to reboot and disconnect the power from the drive to get it to come back.

Is this a sign of a bad drive or just a glitch that some kind of a driver update will solve.

In the same system I have a 6g WD drive that works flawless.

Hello again, Datman I have onlya few suggestions.
1. download and install the latest chipset drivers from your motherboards/manufacturers web site
2. Run Seagate's diagnostic tool, SeaTools.
3. See if tis tutorial will help. USB Driver - General Fix for Problems

I have a LanParty UT mobo, great board, no problems. However, I have the pins for the USB block on the back of my PC and a second set of pins for the front set of USB ports. However, I have a 5 in 1 USB card reader that requires pins but no 3rd set of pins on the mobo to connect. Anyone have any suggestions on how to expand USB connections (meaning pins as I can't use a hub).

A:USB Mobo Expansion Options

If you have a free PCI slot on the motherboard, you can install a PCI USB card that comes with internal pins.

Hi, I have a Seagate USB3 500GB Portable Expansion Drive to accommodate my Back-ups and also any files I wish to 'transport' to another PC. I would prefer to leave the device connected to my PC except when I need to transport files. Will leaving it connected do any harm; should it be removed when not in use?
The PC it is connected to is NOT permanently switched on; being 'live' only for a few hours each day when in use.
Thank you.

A:Portable Expansion Drive.

I leave an external hard drive connected all the time. To me it's no different than leaving a mouse or keyboard or printer always connected. In fact, I have an older computer running Windows XP. The external hard drive on that machine has been connected for about 6 years with no problems.

Hi,

This may seem like a stupid question, but I was thrown off by the spec of the core-i3 processor on this page relating to PCI support:

Intel? Core

I need to replace the motherboard that this chip is running in because there is an absence of a standard PCI slot, If I buy a motherboard with a PCI slot on it, will it be supported by the processor?

A:Core i3-540 Expansion Options?

Er, what?

The link that you provide is to a mobile CPU, usually found in a laptop. (Some all-in-one desktops use mobile CPUs, but they're not the norm.)

Is the Packard Bell ixtreme M3720 the system you're asking about?

Could you be clearer about what it is that you wish to do?

Beyond the onboard 1TB hybrid HD. Is there room internally availible for additional expansion? Am I looking to add an external drive or NAS for futher expansion?  I have had my Sprout Pro for almost a month now and see so much potential in this product. So far though. Work keeps getting in the way of being able to sit down and sink my teeth into it.

Looking for a quality USB 3.0 expansion card with an NEC chipset. All the ones on Newegg seem too be made by no names.

Thanks in advance

I just looked on NewEgg. Rosewill and Transcend are not no-names in my book. They make decent gear.

We have a home network with a wireless base station which acts as a router. One of the computers is connected to the base station and the other is connected to the network through a wireless card. All firewalls have been turned off. However we are unable to play Multiplayer AoE using either of the LAN/TCP-IP Option or the Internet TCP/IP option. We tried playing through the zone and that didn;t work either. Each time we just get a message saying "Unable to join game". I read a thread saying some port need to be open but the appropriate support page on the zone.com website seems to no longer exist . I just finished my finals and really really need to play this game (((. Please help!!

A:Multiplayer Conqueror's Expansion on LAN

The firewall wouldn't be an issue if your both behind it.
Do you have more then one game licence? In other words two or more different discs, one for each PC? If not that's why more then one PC can't play online at once. Some but not all games require each PC even on LAN matches to have a different licence key. If this isn't the case for you look to Microsofts FAQS for the game to see if you need each PC to use a different port. If both PCs are using the same port for the game that may be your problem but it's not firewall related. The same thing would apply if your both trying to play online. Due to the router obtaining an IP which both PCs use you would need to change the port settings for the game on one PC to insure the game server knows it's two different machines.

Hey All!

I have an old hard drive in a pretty old computer that im trying to put into my brothers computer for extra space for schooling. The problem is that I dont think it has jumpers to indicate slave or master so basically, is there any way i can add this hard drive to my bro's PC without having to do all that or taking out his old hard drive? Thanks for any help you guys can give!
