I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd recommend going to Ebay and looking for something like a Radeon HD 7850. I saw some sell for around 50ish bucks. The HD 7850 would be a huge improvement over the cards you listed.

Heya, I'm looking to upgrade from my gf4 MX440. I'd like to keep it at or under $100 and these are the cards I've been looking at:

Radeon 9250 128 mb 400 mhz ~$80
Radeon 9550 128 mb 250 mhz ~$100
Geforce FX 5500 Dual RAMDACs 350 mhz ~$100

Which of these would be the better buy? Also, other reccomendations are welcome, these cards are from my local best buy and have the easiest access to.

A:Graphics card on a budget

I'd go with the GE force. The cheaper radeons tend not to have fans on the cards and run hot. Performance is about equal for all cards.

I am looking to upgrade my FX5500 256mb graphics card because i think it is pants!!

My shortlist includes:
geforce 6200 (30) and possibly 6600 (if i get lucky on price)
ATI Radeon 9550 (28) and possibly 9800 (price permitting)

I am inclined to go the nvidia route as that is what i am used to. What would you reccommend? Is it worth me bothering or should i wait until i can afford a 7800GS (might take a while!!)

My price limit is around 40 (i should be able to sell my current card for around 30) and i am limited to AGP cards.

Thanks in advance

A:Budget Graphics Card upgrade?

What do you need the card for? Just regular computing, or games? If it is games, what games are you trying to run?

If you are into the newer games, I'd look at nothing less than these cards:

1. nvidia 6600GT
2. ATI 9800pro
3. nvidia 6600

in that order.

Good luck!

A:Shopping for graphics card, $80-$140 budget

For a current card I would recommend the Sapphire Radeon 7770 this can run Civ V (A much more demanding game than any of those you mentioned) at 40 FPS.

However some previous generation cards are going down in price signifigantly. Like the GTX 560 / 550 TI and the Radeon 6870 and 6850, all of these cards should be able to run your games very well, however these cards are running for about $160 - $140. You could get a great deal on ebay, now that everybody is selling their old cards for the GTX 600 series and Radeon 7000 series.

Links to those cards. (Sapphire 6870) (Gigabyte GTX 560) (MSI GTX 550 TI) (Sapphire 6850)

To tell you the truth, I would just save up for one of the old Radeon 6900 series cards, or a good current card.

Well my parents desktop is finally dieing, and their laptop wont turn on any more -_- ./sigh.

So I'm trying to come up with a decent build for them so my younger siblings can play some games, do homework, get online etc.

Planing on using the budget box build for the tower. But now I want a decent graphics card to pair with it. Any good recommendations? Have another $75 or so to spend on this build.

Kinda leaning towards:
ASUS ENGT430/DI/1GD3(LP) GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

But would love any better recommendations.

A:Good graphics card to go with the TS Budget Box,2761-2.html

They recommend a 5670 ~$80 or 5550 for ~$60. I'd say the Radeon 5550 would be more than fine for a general purpose machine and a little gaming.
These are meant to give comparable performance to a Geforce 9600 GT, and more than enough for a little gaming at 1650x1080 resolution or below.

I don't think any of the lower end fermi offerings are particularly good from what I've read. Have to go for GTX 460 and upwards or not at all.

Hello, I want to make 3D models in programs like 3D max and Maya 2011 and I'd like to know what is the best budget card I can use? I'll have around 400USD to spend on it...

A:What is the best budget graphics card for 3D modelling?

The graphic cards that are designed for 3D and game development are

- NVIDIA Quadro

The Quadro are better and more powerful but very expensive so you may be able to get a lower end FirePro for $400

A:recommendation for budget gaming graphics card

You are likely more limited by a 400W PSU than your budget. First check you vendor and sort by price, then check the specs for the one with 400W or less minimum PSU.
An nVIDIA 650 of some kind may fit you well.

Looking to get an ATI All-in-Wonder card and also boost the performance of my existing card (a GeForce3 ti200). I'm using a P4 1.7 and 512MB RAM.

Found a great deal on the 9000 Pro at $150 CDN (complete with remote, etc.). The obvious question is, with a P4 1.7, will this be much of a performance boost over my existing card?

Any other All In Wonder cards in the budget range you would recommend? I'd like the break out "box" and remote control.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

can anyone reccommend a good midrange card to replace onboard video for around 50 bucks or so

A:graphics card recommendations

Not for $50. $50 is low end, very low end.

You can check and have a look around but fifty bucks isn't going to get you far. What are you wanting to do with the card. If gaming is what you are looking to do, you will need more money.

I would like to know your opinions on choosing a new AGP graphics card for my desktop machine, with the following specs: P4 2.80ghz, 1GB RAM, 350W PSU (full specs can be found here however, I've upgraded the RAM from 512MB to 1GB)

About a year ago I tried to install a GeForce 6600 256mb card on the same machine, with little success, so I'm a little wary of nVida cards.

Ideally, I'd be looking to spend under 120 (about $200)

The Nvidia 8600 GT never gave me any troubles when I was running crysis on Medium, So I don't think it would perform too bad with FSX, The 8600 Ranges from 40 (I think) To around 100 depending on where you buy.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good card?

Since I posted in another thread that my fan died on my old card, I'm not sure if I should buy the same brand again.

My current card is an nVidia GeForce 8400GS with 512MB RAM. It was manufactured by BFG, and they offer lifetime 10 year warranty. I'd like to get my card RMAd, but they need a proof of purchase and I don't necessarily have that.

I'd like to stick with a good card under $60 since I'm on a budget at the moment.

Would nVidia or ATI be best? And just FYI, I do a lot of gaming, video and pic editing.

A:Graphics Card Recommendations

BFG doesn't make video cards anymore. About the best you'll do for $60 is a deal. If you can wait for a rebate, then this is likely as good of a card as you'll be able to find for that price. - MSI N240GT-MD1G/D5 GeForce GT 240 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

A:What graphics card should I get? Recommendations?

You would probably want a 6800 (at least 6700) series card if AMD is what you prefer.

If nVidia is your preference then the 570 (at least 550) is where you would want to be.

If you are not aware a new generation will soon be out. That means in 2 or 3 months, you will have a whole new selection of cards to choose from.

If you do choose a card, please make sure your power supply is rated to carry the graphics power requirements.

Hello everyone.

Can someone post a good GFX card for no mor ethne $100 for a miini tower PC such an emachine El series etc. So a low profile GFX card. My friend does some basic gaming WoW, Moonlight etc.

i know a regular card is too big. What is one of the best 100 dolalr or below gfx cards that are low profile and can fit into mini tower PCs? The slot can be the regular PCI 2.0

Thanks guys

A:Solved: Best budget Graphics card for mini tower form factor?

The biggest problem with OEM PC's is that the power supplies aren't typically up to the task of an addon card. So it's generally recommended to replace the power supply as well. With this being a mini-tower, I wouldn't be surprised if it does not use a standard sized power supply, so that is likely not an option.

If you want to simply try a new card anyway, your options will be limited by the card size. There isn't much of a selection of low profile cards. Find the latest generation chipset which fits your budget.

I think we need to know your budget, and what you want to do with the card first.

If you have no budget, get a 6800ultra agp card.

Pci-e is the newest graphics slot. If you going to be building a new pc, might as well use the newest tech. There isn't much price difference between agp and pci-e.

Hello ya'll! I've got a Compaq Presario 5430 with a 64 mb Nvidia GeForce 2 MX graphics card that came with it. I've noticed that I'm unable to play more and more newer games because I believe my graphics card won't run 'em. (I hear sound but no pic (black screen)). I want to stay with NVidia cause I've had no problems (knock on wood) and just looking for an affordable graphics card upgrade.Any recommendations! Thanks.

A:Recommendations! Video Graphics Card

Could you post some system specs? I can't seem to find the specs for the Presario 5430 motherboard. I'm guess it's because it's too old. Just need to know if that motherboard is AGP 2x/4x or AGP 4x/8x. If your board supports 8X AGP, then you can take full advantage of some of the newest AGP cards which can run in AGP 4X or 8X. Such as these:
or see them all at Newegg AGP4x/8X Cards section

but if your board can only support up to 4X, then buying those cards would be a waste of money. You could look at these instead:
Newegg AGP 2x/4x GPU section

Note: Newegg only ships in the US, so if you live in Canada or elsewhere, you're out of luck. Try and for Canadian shipping.

Keep in mind that upgrading your video card has the potential to improve your framerate significantly, but in order to take advantage of that potential you have to make sure that your system is not being bottlenecked by other parts, such as your CPU or RAM. A process is only as fast as the slowest step in it. So if you have, 256MB (or even 512MB) of RAM, try to upgrade to 1GB if you want good gaming performance. If you have an old CPU, you might want to replace that too.

Hey thats a pretty good system...But i'd recommand you get a atleast 1 gig ram and as far as a good video card is concerned you can either get a Geforce 6600 GT but if your willing to spend a Few extra bucks not much though you can get a Geforce 6800 128 mb ( plays bf2, doom 3, and hl2 on high settings on my computer....But if you have a 1 gig ram )which is a really good card and they are pretty cheap aswell.. OR if you want any ATI video cards and you have a PCI-e i'd go for the Radeon X800 pro or X800 XL but i think those are really expensive as compared to the budget you stated so i would go with the Radeon X700 XT ....

well the conclusion....I'd go with the Geforce 6800 (Vanilla) ..its much better than Geforce 6600 GT

Hi all,

I want to upgrade my current 'gaming' hardware setup. Especially the Graphics card and the Processor. My current ones are:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 4000+
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (512mb)

I have a relatively slow PC, is this caused by the processor? Because it's only 2.1 GHz?
What would be a better setup to play some heavy games, like Red Alert 3 on HQ, or Crysis etc.?

Another question: A friend of mine said the graph. card was pretty good, so if I replaced the processor I would be able to get much higher preformance, and speed... Is this true?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English.

A:Graphics and Processor recommendations?

The video card is nowhere near good. A decent video card for great performance at any resolution upto 1440x900 would be the HD 4670. Light-years faster than that 8500GT and cheap too. (<$100)

The CPU should be okay though, but if you want to upgrade, the only worthy upgrade would be a Phenom II X3 or one of the older Windsor chips with 2MB of L2 cache memory.

What is the exact make and model of the PC you are looking at putting the new GPU in? Assuming you are upgrading a pre-built machine?

What is the exact make and model of the PSU in the machine, this will potentially be a significant limitation on what you can install. If you are upgrading from integrated graphics then your current PSU is quite likely not going to up to the job of any new GPU unfortunately.

I am looking for the very best video card for around the $250 area. I'll start off with what I have.

AMD Anthlon XP 2000+ @ 1.66 Ghz and 624 MB of Ram. The video card I currently have is pretty pitiful. The computer I have is a eMachines w2040.

I am wanting to play mainly City of Heroes, Battlefield 1942, and other games in that genre and what not. I would love to play Far Cry too, but I'm not sure if I have the processor to do so.

I want to make a purchase in the next few days, and currently I've been suggested to buy a Radeon 9800 Pro AGP 8X 128MB DDR Video Card for $200, but can I get a better one (OR, will that do?) for alittle more?

Also, I probally need a new PSU, correct? Taking suggestions on those too.

A:How to install graphics card when the existing graphics card in not working.

You could always stick the new one in and boot up in safe mode. Then proceed to uninstall all the remnant drivers. That *shouldn't* cause any problems, but it may be choppy when you boot up.(I've had this happen before, swapping a Riva TNT2 for a GF6600).

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.

I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.

My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

HI all. Im upgrsding to DDR3(E6500,GA-G41MT-ES2L) and a new video card. Just wondering if anyone has some experience/ feedback on these cards that im looking at. XFX GT240,
GIGABYTE GT240/250 and ASUS 9800GT. I know they are all close to one another im just wondering if anyone has some good advise for me. Thanks

A:New card recommendations?

Presuming that the card is for gaming then you're best bet from the cards you've listed is the GTS250.
The lower priced (and performing) GT240 and (slightly better) 9800GT would most likely struggle with some games at 1680x1050. If you are gaming at 1280x1024 then not an issue with any of the cards. The GTS 250 would affords a better gaming experience at the higher resolution.
Are these cards your only options? If you aren't AMD-phobic I would seriously consider the HD 5750 (or if your budget can stretch, then the HD 5770). The HD 5750 offers comparable performance to the GTS 250 and offers more going forward as drivers mature for the series. If pricing in Aus is close to NZ pricing then both cards should be similarly priced.

About the best you are going to find is a fx5500 or a radion 9250. You'll be able to RUN the games on those cards, but you will be turning all your settings down to the lowest levels. PCI cards just don't cut it for today's games.

the 1900XTX is the best. Even the 7900GTX can't compare. I suppose the 1900XT and the XTX are the same, but you get more stock clock speeds, so maybe the overclocking spectrum is a little broader. And as you said, you're willing to pay the money. So 1900XTX it is!

You'll waste more then 4GBof RAM with the 32 bit version of Windows XP and the 64bit version of Windows XP is poorly supported and best not used. You need Vista 64 bit to use that much RAM.

Any card would be suitable depending on which games you do play and how much you want to spend. They are all decent depending on what you expect from one.

Is it better to get a seperate vid card and then a capture card so you can capture vhs tapes or do you recommend AIW.

A:Recommendations on capture card

Going with seperates.
Do you think a person needs MCE or do you think just plain xp home would be fine? I know the oem capture cards require MCE but would it be necessary if I didn't get an oem card? Would I lose out on some of the good things that MCE does? I know that some reviews recommend MCE even if you don't have oem. What are your thoughts?

I have done extensive searching & found very limited info on this subject.

One of my PC's has an ASUS A7V8X-X mobo & all IDE channels are at full capacity. I'm considering getting a SATA PCI card so I can add a SATA drive to this board.

I would like to hear from anyone that is using a SATA card in a PCI slot in their mobo & if you had any problems. Info from anyone that has an A7V8X-X with this setup would be great!

A:SATA PCI card recommendations

I recently purchased a SATA contoller card based off an Initio chip from Ebay for $13.00 and it had conflicts with my old SIS 735 chipset based motherboard and has zero support from the chip manufacturer. Eventually I went with a Vantec UGT-ST200 SATA PCI host card from Tiger Direct for $20.00. It's built on a Silicon Image 3512A chip and has so far worked flawlessly. If you are so inclined you can update the cards BIOS with the most recent BIOS from Silicon Image. I saw both Basic and RAID BIOSs for the chip on the SiI site leaving me to believe that you can have an extra RAID array if you want to experiment with a different BIOS. The card allows you to hot swap a drive, and it can see all the space on a drive larger than 137GB. It can also be used as the controller for your computer's primary boot drive.

I have some money to spare on my gaming rig, and I thought the next thing to upgrade would be the sound card. Right now, I'm using the integrated 7.1 audio on my Asus motherboard, which isn't anything special.
I'm using a true 5.1 headset (Roccat Kave).
I was thinking of purchasing a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional. Would this make much of a difference, and or do you recommend better at a similar price?

I know this question comes up a lot, but I don't know much about which cards are good. Can you give me some suggestions in the $100-$200 price range?

Here's some system info:

Win XP home ed.
My MoBo has a PCI Express x16 video card slot.
Intel DQ965GF Intel Core 2 Duo Ready Socket 775 MicroATX Motherboard
Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core 3.0GHz 800MHz 2x2MB processor
2 of: 2GB 800MHZ DDR2 RAM
Zalman CNPS9500 AT 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink

Also, do I need to upgrade my power supply at the same time? I have a 450 Watt power supply, powering 4 drives, 1 case fan, 1 CPU fan, and the MoBo of course.
160gb sata HD
Sony CD-ROM drive
Sony DVD+RW drive
Floppy drive
If I should replace the power supply, any suggestions on which make/model?

Thanks guys!

Whatever I buy I'll probably get at newegg, I've heard good things about them.

I realise this isn't an issue or a problem, but I was wondering if anyone had some quick recommendations for a USB sound card? I'm looking for around ?50 or lower, and was looking at this, but I don't know if this would be a huge step up.

I would appreciate any help,

If I were to pick between the two, I would go for this one Its a little higher than the 50 mark but seems to have more features. The other one probably isn't much better than the in built sound.

So I'm in the market for a new wireless card for my desktop. The last one I bought was a piece of crap from the start. You don't generally see network card reviews. Was wondering what some good quality options would be.

A:Network card recommendations?

The best option would probably be a dual-band one that has 802.11ac support; if you've got an AP that supports the standard, it'd be worthwhile investing in that kind of card. They can be kinda expensive though (usually around $100 from what I've seen).

Im new to the forums here and sorry if this would be a stupid question but...

I currently am running my system with a ASUS GeForce 7900 GT and I am looking for an upgrade. I cant go too pricey so I am just looking for something a few steps up from my old card. I mostly use the graphics card for old games like Half-Life 2, Valve games, and older RTS games like Men of War. Also I have a 530 watt PSU currently and would like to avoid upgrading that so cards that dont require more than 530 watts would be appreciated.

A:Video Card Recommendations?

What is your budget? What you have now, still runs pretty good... But any $50 gaming card today will be faster.
For the $100 price range, an ATI 5770/6770 isn't shabby. Your 530w PSU is more than enough for typical gaming cards.

But what brand of PSU do you have? Cheap PSUs are not actually able to hit those peaks under normal uses. But again, typical GPUs will work fine with 400~450w PSU.

You need a PCI-Express x16 card.

A 6600gt is a little better than a 9800, a x1900xt is awesome, but power hungry.

This x800gto will give good FPS at high settings.

$70 is not enough for good gaming.
