I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Did you ever figure this issue out? I'm having the exact same symptoms with my beautiful Dell 27" LED screen, but unfortunately, I'm starting to believe it's the monitor, which is just over the one year warranty. The sad part is, I was having this problem for over six months now, and had switched to the VGA cable to avoid the issue when it first started happening, but finally tried to troubleshoot it now, and I'm discovering that it may be a hardware issue and if I would have done something when it started, it was still under warranty.

Anyway, the only thing I haven't ruled out yet is the DVI cable, as that is still a possibility, however it seems unlikely that a DVI cable would go bad by itself after a few months of use. And looking at the cable, I see no signs of damage or broken/bent pins.

Not a problem, really. I'm just tired of the space my 19" CRT style monitor hogs on my desktop. I've decided to shop for a flat screen version at least as large in screen space.

I'd like to know if any of you folks have particularly good or particularly bad experience with any of the usual manufacturers.

I plan to shop at the usual places, Best Buy, CompUSA, etc. I know the big names. I plan to keep it under $200 if possible.

Any thoughts at all before I head for the stores?

First of all, yes I have the latest drivers installed.  :)
I have the following:
Dell Optiplex 755 running Windows Vista
ATI Radeon HD3400  video card added with two VGA outs on a Y chord.
Dell D2015H  Monitor
Dell P2414H  Monitor.
Both monitors are capable of 1920 x 1080 but they don't want to do it.  The maximum resolution I get is  1600 x 900
My question is
Is this a problem with the card.  Should I get another one ?
Or is this a Vista problem.  It was an oversight, I meant to get the machine with Windows 7,
Any good-spirited insights welcome and thanks in advance.  Thanks.

A:Not getting maximum monitor resolution, ideas ?

First of all the LATEST Drivers do not work on Old hardware.
Radeon HD2000 HD3000 HD4000 series cards are Legacy and therefore the LATEST Drivers DO NOT and WILL NOT ever work.
The auto detect uitility also will not work.

Hello all,
I have a HP desktop, several months ago the DVD-R started to give me problems, the DVD-R would try to open but it seemed it got stuck, I thought it was something to do with the DVD-R so I open it up and replace the DVD-R, when I connected it back again it just gave me a long beep and seemed to start loading, the screen was black, actually it seems like the screen was not connected at all since the power button on the screen stayed yellow instead of green. I removed the dvd-rom and left it without a dvd-rom, just rebooting from the harddrive and same thing, long beep, I tried changing the cable from the motherboard to the dvd-rom and nothing.
any ideas?

You're sure that the monitor supports 1080p not 1080i? I ask because some TV's only support up to 1080i.

Based on what you've said and are showing us, I think this might be the case. Judging from that picture, that TV does not like 1080p.

Although I just checked the model out online and the literature all says 1080p. Is there a setting on the TV that allows you to switch between 1080i and 1080p? Or does it do it automatically?

Edit again:

I just went through the instruction book, and nowhere does it say 1080p. Something you could try is going into the PC settings and adjusting the clock and the phase controls. It may help, or it may only apply to the TV's VGA connector, I don't know.

Hi, I have windows home 7, home built pc with Asus motherboard. Don't ask me further spec details cuz I have no idea about most of the specs (an ex built it and can't get in control panel due to monitor issue). I just know that it's supposed to be kick-*** with a 5.8 windows score.

The PC boots fine, gives you the option to start windows normally or leave it do its' thing... but either way I try, it makes no difference to monitor.
When it boots, the monitor shows all the usual details, the bios pic, starting... and as soon as it reaches desktop point (I think), it goes black even though monitor is still powered and no errors about no signal. If I turn monitor off and on, it will quickly show me the desktop then it goes black again.

I'd appreciate any help or insight.

Hi, first thing I would try is to connect the PC to another monitor that is known to be in good working order. If the same problem occurs then we will know it is a problem with the PC, if it functions normally you will know it is a problem with your monitor.

I have a dual monitor set up through HDMI. My laptop works just fine but the second monitor went black during a gaming session and hasn't worked since. I have restarted, verified its on HDMI setting, updated drivers, checked refresh rates.

The Second monitor is still connected. I can move things there (cant see it) because it is black. When I right click and click screen resolution I can see the screen pop up.

I think the color scheme may have changed during the gaming session and that might be the culprit. It was an old game - 2009

I need some help. I have acomputer monitor that is roughly 10 years old. THe monitor last night decided to suddenly turn off and the power button started blinking. I unplugged the power to the monitor and let it sit overnight. This morning I went and plugged the power back into the monitor and pressed the power button on it. When I pressed the power button the button started blinking again. I have never had a monitor die like this and I would like to know why it died and if it can be fixed. Some more info is that i had only been on the computer for less than 2 hours. I have not spilled anything on the computer, the vent is completely uncovered, and the computer is in good working conditions according to the mannual. I need to know asap please. The tower still works perfectly fine it is only the monitor.

If you could try the monitor on another PC, that would confirm the monitor is faulty. In any case if the monitor is bad and considering its age, it would be best to just replace it. It would not be worth fixing.

I would like to create a template that has a .gif (company logo) embedded.

Problem: the logo consumes X amount of space, so if you have a 1,000 letters using this template, that would mean: 1,000 X .gif ##. (consume's too much space)

Solution??: How do I go about having the .gif associated with template, without being saved inside the template, meaning: you can have 1,000 letters, but with one .gif logo associated to all 1,000.

**I hope you can understand what I'm talking about**

A:Ideas Ideas (Template w/.Gif) w/ out consuming space

As long as we're talking the same person's PC, just link the logo instead. For instance, Insert-Picture-From file select the Link to file box.

Now, don't move the logo from its current location and it'll always link up. Send the document via email won't work unless the recipient has access to that location as well, such as a shared network drive.

Monitor going black keeps after switched it on and off Now here is another info my monitor has build in speakers BUT the cable from it was plugged in the onboard sound card which was DISABLED and so were the speakers from the monitor I plugged it in so it won't hang loose a few years ago What could be the problem What connection could there be between me plugging in the headphones and my LCD going nuts even though the other soundcard is on disable My first answer was some kind of quot shortage quot but it doesn't really makes sense since my onboard card is disabled and my main sound card has no connection with the monitor itself except that they share the same motherboard but stuff like this still shouldn't have happened and it never did until now Thanks

A:Monitor keeps going black after ...

Disabled or not metal touching metal is contacting each other. Maybe when you plugged it in it spiked through the back panel of the system (I/O shield) sounds crazy but could theoretically happen. What headphones, maybe they tried to pull to much power (High impedance?) causing the issue. Try re-plugging in the monitor cable and unplug the speakers from the disabled port.

I'll guess and offer that you could have the monitor power saving set incorrectly.

A colleague of mine has been having trouble with one of her monitors, she has a brand new computer (Windows 7) with a relatively new monitor (just a few months old).

So, while the computer is in use the monitor goes completely black. The computer still recognizes the monitor, it is still turned on and according to the input menu of the monitor it still recognizes the VGA input from the computer. From the 'Screen Resolution' panel I tried disconnecting the display and then reconnect it, the monitor comes alive after this for a short while. Disconnecting the VGA and reconnecting right away doesn't appear to have any effect.

Do you guys have any thoughts on what might be causing this ?

Home built system with win xp/sp-3....System was running fine all day & night. I shut the system down for the night and went to turn on the next day and now I have nothing at all come up on the screen. Here is what I have done already.

1)I thought that it might be a video card issue so I swapped pci-E slots and still nothing.
2)Purchased another pci-e video card and tried that, same results, blank screen
3)removed video card and tried to boot, nothing, blank screen

MB does not have onboard video so I cannot try that although at this point I do not think that it is a video problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Hi all,
my roommate is having a monitor problem. it will be working OK, then the monitor gives the "no signal" message. He has opened the case and re-seated properly the video card. I am going to go over to my storage space tomorrow and get a monitor, so we can switch them out and see if the new monitor works OK.
Any suggestions on how to proceed, other than trying other monitor?

I have a Dell Latitude 620 I use for work. I cannot modify it in any way. When I place it on standby, roughly half the time it comes back up fine, the rest of the time it goes to a black screen with the power still on and hard drives apparently active. What do I do?

A:Monitor goes black

Hello saxoman ,

this sounds like you may have an infection but i am leaning twords that you may need to do some updates

you may need to contack your administrator so that they can have an IT tech take a look at it

for if you can not modify it then there is not much we can do to help you for to update it you will have to install updates to programs / drivers / and may have to make adjustments to the software & your system to get it to work & connect , that is why some companies set there hardware up so that they will be in control and limet the control that the users have

how much control do you have ?? or are you highly limeted !!

hope this helps

Hello My problem monitor Second goes black is that after a while time varies of use on the computer my second monitor has started blinking and then going black I have a ati graphics card with slots for monitors Now the weird thing is you would think that it is either A a problem with the monitor itself B the second output on the card is going bad well when i try hooking up my monitor that works to the slot that does not work nothing shows up its like the monitor is in sleep Second monitor goes black mode But when i hook the monitor that goes blank to the slot that always works for the other monitor it also does not work having both of those things happen it leads me to think its possibly drivers so as im typing right now im downloading new graphics drivers i was only version behind but who knows ati s drivers tend to corrupt from time to time any help or things Second monitor goes black i should try would be awesome thanks in advance nbsp

I am working on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop. The issue being the monitor would randomly go black during BIOS, it works fine with an external monitor, so I figured it was the inverter. I bought and replaced it, now it stays on longer but still goes black, unless I hold the button down that tells the laptop the screen is closed for a few seconds then release, after that it will either go black again, or stay on for indefinitely until a reboot then the problem repeats itself. Is this a monitor issue or a problem with the close button itself? Thanks for any help!

Well i have a NEC Multisync LCD1920NX and some serious problems with it.
it went fine for quite a half of a year but then the trouble began.

if there should be black color there is a kind of black-green( one black line , 1 green line , ... ) . it also occurs with other video cards so im quite sure the monitor is guilty. the "funny" thing is that this is not an alltime effect . it happens randomly. it started with only once a few days and it could be resolved by doing auto-contrast or auto-resize. that does not work anymore. now im happy if i get a moment with normal colors :/

i even tried to look inside and checked a few cables but im not very expert with that. in fact checking the cable connections was all i could do.

hope anyone couldgive me a hint correcting this.
and excuse my bad english plz

A:it should be black ...[monitor]

I have the same problem, except it comes on has been suggested the blue gun needs repair, but new monitors are tamper proof as I understand it, with good reason, you can be zapped with over 50K volts if touching wrong spot, nope, not prudent.

My workaround is to leave the monitor on all the time. Just reread your post and noticed it is an LCD, don't know if above advice is valid. Still, if you turn it off, try not doing so, couldn't hurt.

Does it do this while machine is powered up? Will snoop around, see if I can find you an answer or someone with more knowledge than I (I know, hard to envision, but is possible, hehe) will come along and give you a better answer.

Hello when I woke up this morning I started up my computer and the 2ND monitor was black, it would also randomly start flickering yesterday. I have updated my drivers. When I unplug and then plug in my HDMI cable it flashes my screen saver then goes black. My settings/menu buttons also do not show up on the black. The Monitor is 4-6 years old. I can also use Gyazo to take a picture of my second monitor and see everything I put on it.

A:2ND monitor is black

Right, you can still use print screen or whatever to take a pic of your setup and both monitors will show up. Windows still thinks you have 2 good monitors, but it sounds like the 2nd one is shot. Flickering is a tell tale sign it`s dieing, most likely.

Try to test it on another pc.

I've tried contacting Digimate but their website wont let me submit a tech question to them. Any help on this would be much appreciated!

Since this is happening again I don't want to send the monitor again. I can not find out the solution to this. The monitor goes black usually when i start up the monitor and I press the on/off button on the monitor to see the screen again. I have to keep doing this for about 3-5 times til it stays on permanently until I shut it down and use it again.

Hi and welcome, Just might be time for a new monitor

If you can test it on another computer, that would be great, that would rule out the video card, but since you said sending it in for repairs fixed it the last time, it's probably the same problem Look on the bright side though, monitors are really cheap now Might be time to pick yourself up a nice 19" LCD for $100

these lines. But unable to do anything. We tryed the buttons on monitor and checked all cables etc.
Don't know what to do now.
Can anyone give me any info?

A:Monitor black

first of all if its crt (really fat in the back) then make sure no magnets are around it.
there are two major possiblities ur monitor is messed up or the computers video card is.
1.test the monitor on another computer, if it worx ur monitor is fine and u have more expensive problems
2. if it still doesnt work then the monitor is most likely fried.

I dont know of anyone that repairs monitors but someone probably does. im guessin ur filter has been messed up. its not an ordinary filter so u cant replace it or anything like that.
Best thing to do is get a new monitor.
If its Lcd (small all the way around) then there are other possiblities. always test it on another computer. test it and write back then we'll see wut happens

A:Monitor went black

Well if you don't hear the computer start up, there's a problem in the computer itself, not the monitor. When you say hear it startup, what did you hear that you're no longer hearing? Power supply fan, POST confirmation beep, Windows startup sound? Do any power lights come on? If not, have you checked if there is a master power switch on the back of the computer that has been bumped off, or the mains plug come loose in the socket? What brand and model is the computer?

Hi there.

I have a strange issue. I installed W10 recently and everything works fine now. However, I found something pretty strange in my screen monitor. The problem is last horizontal lines are in pure black ? just as if there wasn't anything. For example, when you minimize a window, it displays in the Windows bar with a blue/cyan line. In my case, I cannot see that. It is very uncomfortable when watching a movie in fullscreen mode, for instance. Nevertheless, if I take a screenshot, it displays that part of the image perfectly.

I suspect it is a problem of drivers. However, I have my Nvidia card updated...

My monitor is: Acer AL1916W. It is connected via VGA.

Tried the monitor on another computer to see if the trouble follows? That way you can rule out that it's the monitor and not within the machine. In other words isolate the condition to either the monitor or computer.

The monitor got better but got dark again. We hooked up our 1999 monitor and tried it. Both the old card and the new card was tried on both monitors and didn't get normal brightness. Currently, however, the original integrated motherboard card is working fine on this 1999 monitor. Can't figure out if there's a monitor or video card problem. In BIOS it looked as thought it recognized the PCI card. I didn't see anything that would let me turn off the older video card. I'm afraid to change monitors or do anything fearing I might get a black screen again. Thanks for your help.

Hi. So I'm sorta new at all this and I was wondering if there was a problem with my computer or if my monitor just has blown fuses. Occasionally (2 to 4 times a week) after logging on my monitor blacks out and it will automatically restart. If it doesn't restart and you push the button the monitor to turn the screen back on it will refuse to turn back on and will eventually restart after pressing the button about eight or nine times. Is this a virus problem or just the monitor?

Much thanks

If the display is corrupt before booting into WIndows, then it has nothing to do with any drivers. A bad video controller or memory and the only cure is motherboard replacement.

You don't sound like someone able to replace the LCD or motherboard anyway, so you should just take the machine to a (Dell) repair shop and let them figure out what is broken and what to replace.

Lately, one of my monitors (Optiquest Q241wb) has been having fits where it seems to decide that it doesn't feel like showing most of the screen. I recorded a (low-quality, sorry) video of this where moving a window into the upper-right quadrant, or maximizing it, produces the effect. What could be causing this? Something easier to fix, or replace?

So I'm running Vista on an emachines desktop. I have an emachines E19T6W 19" monitor. It has worked perfectly for over a year, but today in the middle of working, the monitor just turned black and stayed black. The power light on the monitor remained blue for on, but it remains black. I felt the monitor and it was kinda hot so I turned the computer and monitor both off for about an hour and restarted them. The monitor shows the Windows starting dialog up until explorer loads (so desktop and taskbar, etc) and then it turns black. If I turn the monitor off and on again, there is about a 1-second period where it works fine, then it goes black again.

Does anybody know what the problem would be, and how would I go about solving this?

A:Monitor goes black

Welcome to TSG.

I realize not everyone has the option but if possible, try your computer with another monitor and try your monitor with another computer. If you can do one or both of those, that might aim you in the right direction. It could be that your monitor is starting to fail but that`s just something to keep in mind and will become obviously apparent if that`s the case.

A few questions that might help you and / or us ...

Do you get the same result in safe mode?
Are you running the correct and up to date driver?
Have you fiddled with the desktop res settings?
Have you recently installed any desktop related items such as `pets` or a screensaver of some sort?

Hello everyone!

I have a problem with my computer's monitor.
It's light is on and it seems to work but the screen stays black.
Sometimes, when I connect it, for some seconds I can get picture but the brightness is so low and the screen seems like flickering.

Changed three vga cables, tested on two laptops and my pc and still the same.
I also tried connecting the laptop with my flat screen with a hdmi cable and also on this monitor with a vga.
I chose to get picture on the tv and the monitor.Unexpectedly that worked and the screen stayed on but the problem with the brightness and the flickering wasn't fixed.

So I came to the conclusion that it's a hardware problem.
But I don't know what exactly causes the problem.
My monitor is ViewSonic VA1703wb.

Thanks for reading.
Any help appreciated!

A:PC Monitor on, Screen black!

We run off Viewsonic monitors at my work. They tend to have random problems. We have 22" monitor that was working fine, unplugged, moved to a different room and now it's tint is purplish and it won't go away. I'm pretty sure your problem is a hardware issue. If it's under warranty contact viewsonic and get it replaced.

I hope someone can help me with a problem ai have with a Monitor Until recently i had a PC with one Geforce Gtx on which I was running Monitor? on Screen Black Monitors Both on DVI One Benq as main Monitor and a HP as secondary Was running fine Now because of some other Hardware broke i decided to get all new Hardware for the PC The only remaining things were my Harddrives Now i have a Geforce gtx from Zotac Black Screen on Monitor? After putting it all together and using the same Monitor situation I noticed my main monitor to go black sometimes Never the other Because that Monitor the Benq had HDMI and my new graphics card as well i tried attaching that one via HDMI It worked for a bit but it started again The Monitor went black sometimes and just stayed that way It only has a picture for a few seconds if for example you restart the computer For a few seconds it shows you the loadscreen of the Bios at the beginning when the monitor gets the first signal after starting the Computer Same after loading and when the Windows logon Screen shows but only for a few seconds then it goes back to black The other Monitor the HP works fine On that I can only test DVI not HDMI Is that problem now a Monitor problem or that of the graphics card But if it would be a problem with the graphics card why would it only happen with the Benq Monitor and not with the HP Or is there a general problem with graphics adapters on the Gtx Series I am using the latest Nvidia driver that was released however since I just updated to that driver today had the previous xx driver installed before could it be a driver issue If anyone knows what it could be or what would be the likely issue I appreciate any help with this Need to make sure whats broken and if I have to return the graphics card or get a new monitor or what else Thanks in advance Wolfseye

A:Black Screen on Monitor?

So the monitor is not affected until Windows loads? ie It doesn't blank out during POSTing ?

If so, it would be a driver issue rather than physical hardware.

I'd check out the nvidia forums to see if anyone else is having the similar issue. There may be an issue with the HDMI input and the 770 series.

Is it possible to connect both monitors via DVI?

So today I was trying to change my resolution on my monitor to (I think) 1600 x 1200. As soon as I changed it, the monitor went completely black, with a grey box in the middle that said something about frequency. I use a Dell Optiplex 740 and Windows Vista Business version, and I have a Daewoo LCD monitor. I can't change the resolution back to its normal self because the screen is completely black. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

A:Monitor Turned Black, Please Help.

Hi there,

What is the maximum resolution allowed by your monitor?

Try booting into safe mode (Pressing F8 before the Windows Splash Screen) and changing the resolution from there.

Hope this helps,

My Dell flat screen monitor turns to black shortly after turning on. I've tried a different power supply, a different monitor cable, and i've tried a different computer....same result w/ all three. Power light stays on (blue) no problem when plugged in w/o the monitor cable. Plug the monitor cable in...screen comes up....4 seconds....goes black. unplug the monitor cable from the computer, power supply stays on, says can't find a signal and is going into power saver mode...then goes into power saver mode w/ power light turning orange. Any help is greatly appreciated. Monitor is maybe 8 months old. Also, when the picture appears it's perfect, no distortions, no error messages....nodda. Thank you for any help you can give me.

If the monitor is only 8 months old, it should still be under warranty, I would return it for replacement.

I ve had my computer and monitor for about My black went monitor computer years My monitor is a quot Hannspree HF I have never had any complaints with it till My computer monitor went black now My daughter was on it yesterday and she said it would flicker black then just black out She shut down the monitor My computer monitor went black and turned it back on and it seemed to fix the problem It kept doing that for a while and increasing in frequency every time she did it My computer monitor went black so she got fed up with it and just shut the whole computer off I went on it today and the monitor would not even come to the main screen The power light turned on but when I would shut it off I could hear a high frequency noise like electric current running to the back of it The noise would quit when I turned the monitor back on but it remained black I tried unplugging everything and cleaned all the plugs and connections still no go I tried hooking up my old monitor and it works fine even with the same cords Is my Hannspree monitor shot or is there something I can do to reboot it or get it to work again nbsp

A:My computer monitor went black

From the information you've provided, my first guess would be that your monitor is shot.
you could try using a different (but still compatible) power cable for the monitor, but I doubt that'd do anything.
I also doubt it's your GPU playing up, because as you mentioned, It works fine with a different monitor.
you may want to look into getting a new monitor.

My Dell monitor keeps going black. The only way I can get it to come back on is to push the power off and back on. After I get to come back on it goes back off. I have got to stay on for a couple hours but it went black again and I have not got it to stay on any longer.

A:Dell monitor keeps going black

If possible try the Monitor on a different computer to see if it does the same thing. If not then it may be either a cable or graphics card problem.

Is the cable replaceable? Look carefully at the cable for any bent pins also on both ends if you have been moving it.

Help! I am using WINNT4. the problem started when my sister uploaded a file from a diskette. Suddenly the monitor went black. ..nothing. I rebooted it then it was ok so far until the desktop is supposed to appear. . .black, nothing can be seen. CPU is still running but monitor is not. The reason why I am on this thread now is that I chose the VGA mode option. What has happened? Can anyone please tell me? Thanks very much.

Yeah I hope this is the right place to post this mods move this if it s not I have Samsung SyncMaster MB CRT monitor and the problem is that the monitor s black well sucks I mean in a pitch black room if I have a image on the screen that is full of black it s light grey at best I ve had other Samsung monitors in the past like s and s and they have excellent black in a completely dark room at night I can t even see if they re on or not I could just use another one of those monitors but unfortunately they only support screen resolutions up to x which is way too small I m used to x when doing stuff like reading and surfing the web and x or x when gaming though that could probably be replaced with anti-aliasing I ve tried adjusting all bright. black Monitor's too settings in monitor and in the graphics card s control panel but they don t change the black it stays the Monitor's black too bright. same no matter what I thought only LCD monitors had sucky black So wtf is my monitor broken or something Is there any way to correct this and get a good black This is essential to me because I watch movies on my computer and play many stealth games like Thief Manhunt and Penumbra that require dark shadows and it takes much away from the gaming experience when I can see every dark corner So anyone help Has anyone got the same monitor If you have test it in a pitch black room so I d know if it s only my monitor or all MB s And how could I get the black better Do I need to adjust something inside the monitor or what nbsp

Its not your video card problem. Probably your display SATA cable got loose.

Yesterday I had a problem where I turned my computer on and the monitor just said "No Signal" and would be black.

So I switched it from the motherboard spot to the video card slot.

I'm wondering if having it plugged into the video card will put extra stress on it and make it not run as good? And how come the other plug in doesn't work now?

A:Black Monitor Screen

Depending on your motherboard, some disable the onboard video if another card in recognized. Then some motherboards have the option of which video to use.
