Q: replacement hard drive for acer aspire

How do I find the correct hard drive replacement for my Acer Aspire 5004WLMi without paying Acer? When I call they want me to talk to a pay to fix guy and all I want is to buy a replacement 100G drive.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was handed a Gateway NV L with a hard drive that is now a paperweight included was the purchased factory recovery cd's I have spent a couple hours chasing my tail with the mindless tech support people in India thanks Acer that tell me the same things different ways I got their download to flash the ROM to Factory Replacement hard will not from install Acer drive the latest greatest Replacement hard drive will not install from Acer Factory and verified the BIOS settings I have turn secure mode off and on Setting the BIOS for UEFI When booting the computer using the System Disc they supplied you get the Gateway logo for a couple minutes normal and then asked language English and then options for what recovery would you like to preform and to exit no matter which recover you select you get the message that this must be run in Legacy BIOS mode Setting the BIOS to Legacy and rebooting you again get the couple minutes of Gateway logo and then the message that this must be run in UEFI mode After talking to one of their supervisors and jumped through the same hoops they decided it was the CD's they sent so after waiting a week for new CD's I get the same results any help out there

1) Set the UEFI/BIOS firmware to OS boot UEFI mode & Secure Boot ENABLED.

While trying to replace the hard drive in my Acer Aspire One 722-0473 I accidentally yanked the had drive cable off of the motherboard.I can't quite tell whether I need a new cable or if I am missing a part that snaps into place and attaches the cable to the motherboard securely. Please advise what I need to do.ThanksPhil

A:Acer Aspire One hard drive cable

i don't think you need parts. the HDD card connector is the big one under near (JHDD) the fan connector (JFAN), you just to slip the HDD cable inside and push back the connector.

Hello everyone.

OK, everything began since the monitor got damaged and was in a bootloop after hibernating Windows. So, we decided to repair the laptop, they said they no longer have parts for the monitor (although it got itself fixed while going home), but they fixed the bootloop. It was a installed with a Windows 8. After I opened "This PC", the 2nd hard drive was missing. My mom asked if they removed it or not, Acer replied that they did not removed the hard drive. I tried installing Windows 7, but the installer only saw the 1st drive. After installing Windows 7, I checked the BIOS (InsydeH20 Setup Utility), but it just really showed up the 1st one. So for now, I am only using 1 drive, and trying to keep my drive to have more space. Is there any fix for it? Please reply.

I just bought this and the hard drive is already filling up fast. Will getting an SD card make a difference? What can I do about this? I won't be doing anything fancy on it - just internet access and using the basic 3 MS Office products. Right now there's only 654 MB of space left. I have not yet installed my printer driver on it because I want to see what the resposnes are. Should I get an SD card and install the printer driver on the SD card? More info:eMMC 16GB2GB DDR3 L Memory Thanks!

basically i want to remove the hardrive, then put in a smaller capacity hardrive where i install ubuntu and windows 7 on it......

the question is would i be able to swap the hardrives around... without damage to the 500gb installed OS'....i.e. when i dont' want to use the 80gb i plug in the 500gb and the installed OS' load normally with no errors...

A:acer aspire 5735-hard drive swap

If I understand you correctly I think you mean you want to be able to swap between 2 hard drives on your laptop, please correct me if I'm wrong

In answer to your question, yes you can do this without damaging the operating system on your HDDs but be sure to remove them when the machine is powered down.

I have had experience with replacing HDDs on various laptops including Acers and just wanted to give you the heads up that it can be more difficult than you think to get into the HDD bay; especially if you have to remove the whole plastic case to get to it.

However why do you not simply buy a cheap USB 2.5" caddy and put your smaller drive in there, then boot from it via USB? It would not require you to open up the laptop every time and would in most case be more convenient for both sharing files and quick OS changes. The only downside is that your drive may not have the performance of it's internal counterpart but that shouldn't be too noticeable in most cases.

A:Acer aspire hard drive upgrade doesn't work.

You didn't say which OS you have but with Windows 7-up you should be able to create a recovery flash drive and save a system image on a hard drive. Then use the recovery drive to restart the machine with the new disk and when asked, tell it to recover from the system image you saved. ps this works if going from a smaller to an equal or larger disk but not to a smaller one.

Hello. I have an Acer Aspire One AOA150 netbook, and it was showing UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME as a stop error for windows XP. I tried using the Recovery Console to repair the disk errors, but the utility gave me an error saying the drive had one or more unfixable errors. After this, the hard drive was no longer recognized by the BIOS. What can I do to fix this problem? If the problem requires a hard drive replacement, what size hard drive do I need to get (1.8" or 2.5")?

You need a 2 1/2" laptop hard drive either SATA or IDE. Be sure to remove the drive and check for this before you buy a replacement laptop hard drive

A:Acer-Aspire V3 laptop hard-drive died, no recovery disk

The Windows 8 key is embedded in the BIOS, there is no COA sticker.

I believe you will have to wait for the recovery disk if you want Windows 8 as you will not be able to download a Windows 8 ISO without a retail key. Microsoft really screwed this up and has made no attempts to fix it.

You can do a clean install of a Windows 7 upgrade disc, see here: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hi All Recently my older Acer Aspire - notebook hard drive failed on me It s about yrs old Was running Vista Home I of course like an never burned the recovery media from the hard drive And it s just my luck that Acer no longer has the recovery media available They told me there was nothing recovery no hard media Acer longer failed... available? drive Aspire they could do for me and directed me to Microsoft My question is this I have Windows Vista home running on my Acer Aspire hard drive failed... recovery media no longer available? Desktop If I smack in a new hard drive in the notebook can I use the recovery media from the Desktop to reinstall the OS on the notebook If not do I have any other options I guess I could always run Ubuntu I know this is an older notebook not necessarily worth a lot but I d like to keep this running for my wife She uses it primarily for web surfing and she s hogging my laptop like crazy every since her s died Thanks in advance Frank nbsp

A:Acer Aspire hard drive failed... recovery media no longer available?

You can't legally used your Desktop's recovery media on your laptop (also because usually manufacturer's build such medium for a particular piece of hardware, with all drivers etc. pre-installed).

I think you can either choose to run Ubuntu or you can get one of those cheap OEM windows media from e.g. newegg. However, one draw back of this is, I believe you can't get any help from Microsoft directly, if you ever need it.

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct sub-section of the forum but couldn't see a more appropriate place.

Any advice appreciated: I'm trying to do a factory restore on my Acer Aspire laptop, as it started crashing, stalling etc. and then eventually just failing to boot up. I've gotten a fair bit of my important stuff off it using a Linux (Knoppix) disc, so am ready to do a factory restore.

However, when I try to do so, I get the error message: "WIMApplyImage Fail. Error: 045D" then I click on "OK" and it says "FAIL to restore image"

Any ideas? I'm worried that my hard drive may be physically damaged. When I listen it's making the odd whirring/clicking noise, but doesn't sound particularly out of the ordinary to me.

Or, on the other hand, does anybody know of any alternative options to the in built Acer factory restore?

Thanks,

Chris

A:(Acer Aspire laptop) Factory Restore failing - hard drive damaged?

Hi Chris. Welcome to TSF.

Have you tried opening up a terminal window and running chkdsk /r on your system? You might also run "sfc /scannow" from within the terminal window as well just to see if perhaps your problems are system-file related.

The clicking noise you're hearing is a bit troubling as it is often an indicator of an impending hard drive failure. I'm glad that you backed up your stuff though. Often that is one thing many people do NOT do and then they are left scrambling for ways to recover their data.

Good day!

Mike

Friend cleaned his heatsink and now fan is failing, intermittent. Initial search from google is it's 90mm CPU fan so wondering if he can order stock and then swap it out, or if he needs a parts number to reorder. He doesn't want to open it again so I'd like to have the part there when I arrive next week to swap in for him, if possible.

It's sounded like a Hoover since he got it so does it need the more expensive quiet model suggested above or will the stock ones here suffice? https://www.google.com/search?q=92mm...w=1067&bih=533

I'd normally suggest eBay, but it shows only one seller:

New Genuine Acer Aspire X1200 X1300 X1301 X1420 X1420G X1700 X1800 X3812 CPU Fan | eBay

and it's $35 (free shipping). Whether the OEM one has enough proprietary features to justify the expense over a generic, I have no idea.

There's no way to upgrade a video card in a laptop unless it's something from ASUS, MSI, Alienware, (If you're lucky)

But even if you could, the upgrade would probably be anywhere from $200-$600+ maybe even more. Old 7900GTX Go cards are still fetching roughly $100 on Ebay

I am looking for a replacement battery for my ACER Aspire 3634WLMi laptop and have noticed one available in Australia which is listed as a replacement for the Aspire 3630 and wondered if anyone could advise if this would be a suitable replacement for me.

Part number for the existing battery is:
Sanyo 4UR18650Y-QC219 Rating 14.8v at 2000mAh.

The replacement however is quoted at 11.10V at 6600mAh.

Anyone have any idea if the voltage difference will cause any problems?

Hello everyone!

I recently bought a new keyboard for my Aspire 7741G. I wanted to replace the old kb with the new one, but i`m having problems removing the old keyboard. I`ve unscrewed all screws, but the top "plate" (the one that holds the keyboard) is still holding somewhere in the middle. Any advice on how to remove the keyboard? Or if someone knows where to find a service guide/manual for this laptop. Any answer is appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

A:Solved: Acer Aspire 7741G keyboard replacement

I don't know about Aspires, but while replacing a HDD in a Sony Vaio, the final screw holding the top plate was underneath the keyboard. All around the keyboard edges, there were "almost invisible" brackets holding the keyboard down. Had to use a very small screwdriver to carefully pop them.

I have a month old Acer Aspire E 15 laptop. Its touchpad is very hard and for normal touch it just keeps roaming picking up cells. It can only be stopped by taking off the finger and then carefully taking cursor to an empty cell and press hard to click so the several picked up cells get released and I can work further. I tried Fn+F7 suggested by a forum member but it acts only an On/Off switch for the touchpad. Press Fn+F7 and it goes off, press again it comes back. But the hardness remains. A click with the touchpad means press the touchpad hard till it literally 'clicks'. Looks like the machine will be usable only with a mouse. Before I had a Lenovo and never faced any such problem. Anyone faced such a problem? And any solutions?

Hi,If you have Precision Touchpad in your laptop, go to Settings, Devices and select mouse and touchpad, try disabling features one by one and test whether it resolves the problem, when you say that you have to press hard, did you mean physically? If it is, then it may be a hardware problem and needs a technicians attention.

I've been having on and off problems with my drive for a while where sometimes its fine but alot of the time it just doesnt seem to read any real cd/dvd or any writeable cd's/dvd's.

Sometime's when entering Real and Writeable discs, i get prompted to format the disc which in most cases can't because of it being a genuine cd/dvd. Over the past few days now it just doesnt seem to recognise anything. asking to insert a disc and spitting on the current disc i have put in.

I've attached a photo on the computer as i dont know how to get under the top without messing about and probably breaking something!

Hello, I'm currently having problems with my dvd drive on my laptop, I'm aware that there are many threads with almost identical problems to mine but no solutions I've tried seem to work.

The drive dosen't appear in my computer, and in device management does appear but with the alert sign over it. When reistalling the drive it says "problem during installation". I've also tried installing new drivers and firmware from the acer website but this hasn't helped. I haven't added or changed anything on the computer I can think of, rather studidly I hadn't set any system restore points.

My laptop is the Acer Aspire 5610.

System information:

Microsoft Windows XP

Service Pack 3

Genuine Intel CPU
T2300 @ 1.66 GHz
1.3GHz, 0.99BG of RAM.

The DVD drive is:

HI

My Toshiba C650d fell of my bed the other day and my hard drive is damaged. When I boot the laptop up I get no bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key. I have done some research and found out basically my Hard Drive is F*^K%D. I did'nt have many important files on there so I dont care about losing them but I dont wont to get it repaired as it will cost about the same as getting a half decent Notebook.

Is it possible to buy a New Hard drive that fits my Laptop. Would this make my Laptop boot up and start or do I need to fork out and get another?

If so how do I get a Hard Drive that I know will (fit in my laptop) with my Laptop.

Hi Everyone I recently downloaded a ISO image of Vista SP - bit from a member here in the forums The computer I'm typing this message on is the one I put in the Thread Question Title box I couldn't get the file to download correctly so I downloaded it on my newer computer that's running Windows I burnt the ISO file to a blank DVD disc I tried out the disc in the computer I created it on The disc was read correctly and the prompt appeared on my screen asking me if I wanted to boot from the disc of course I didn't so I ignored it and just let windows boot normally I tried the same disc in my older acer computer and the light on the disc drive blinked off and on but I never received the screen prompt to boot Drive ACER 5100-3357 Aspire Issue CD/DVD from cd Then the light went off and windows vista just booted up normally I went into windows explorer and my cd dvd drive is listed there but evidently it's now defective I inserted a ACER Aspire 5100-3357 CD/DVD Drive Issue store purchased original music cd and thought it would start playing automatically but it didn't the drive indicator light blinked off and on like it did previously when I had inserted the iso file disc I had created on my other computer So I've ordered a replacement drive for my laptop as I'm rather old fashioned I don't like to give up on something I would rather try and get it fixed David

I would like to swap the old DVD drive that came on my Acer for a new HP/ LG GSA-T20L. Can anyone tell me if it's compatible and how do I remove my old DVD drive from my Acer Aspire 5002 WLMi? It's not obvious, like unscrew from underneath. Thank you.

A:swapping DVD drive on Acer Aspire 5002 WLMi

Not recognizing the Model Number is this a Laptop? If so while electrically the drive may work with the laptop, if it uses the same interface (IDE or Sata which ever the acer requires) it is unlikely that the Bezel for the drive will match and may even interfere with fitting the drive into the case.

Want o boot from a USB on the Acer Aspire One D250 1622, what USB drive I should boot on?

When I go into the Bios of the Acer Aspire One D250 1622 this is what I see
in the BOOT section:

1. IDEO : Hitachi HTS54501689A300
2. IDEI :
3. USB FDD :
4. Network Boot : Atheros Boot Agent
5. USB CDROM :
6. USB HDD :

There are three USB drives on this laptop.

If looking at the monitor, two are on the right and one on the left.

QUESTIONS:

Is only one of these three USB drives the bootable one? If yes, which one? OR can all three be "booted" from?
Which one of the above in the list should be placed at the top as the bootable USB drive?
What do each of the Boot Drive choices mean? Where do they boot from?

Thank you in advance,

JJ

I am working with backing up my computer and I am dazzled by all the dvd R and RW and minus and plus etc. My dvd drive is listed like this: DVD +or - RW (+ or - DL)/DVD Ram. I am probably on the wrong board but I couldn't get on the "internal hardware" forum.

I have no idea what all this means. All I know is that DVD+RW seems to work. The clerk told me that I had better be sure what my dvd drive uses. Thanks.

1. I have an old Dell, model OptiPlex GX60. It has a hard drive of this designation: WDC WD400BB-75FJA1. It's a 40gb size.

The hard drive is failing. I'd like to replace it.

How do I know what kinds of hard drives may be good substitutes here? Might go to a 60gb. I have expanded my RAM.

I'd like to know what kinds of hard drive I could replace it with. General descriptions would be good.
2. Is it as simple as pull the old one, stick the new one in, and go to F12 in Dell OS menu, then load windows in?

We have several systems that are not likely to be replaced within the next ten years. The use a dos os and the file structure uses less than 100 MB. We use the 3 1/4 floppy for backup and communicate through the com port to make backups of the db. I have a thought to replace the ide hard drive with a flash drive. Is there an adapter that would allow you to use the ide port on the mother board to plug in a usb drive? There are probably some connectivity issues with bootup that but can probably be addressed by booting from floppy, or even by placing the right files on stick. Any thoughts?

A:Which replacement hard drive ?

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Supports 6.35 cm (2.5 in) hard drives in 9.5 mm (.37 in) and 7.0 mm (.28 in) thicknesses (all hard drives use the same bracket) So that confirms it will accept the one I linked in the post above.  Unfortunately, hard drive removal is a bit tricky. Start on p. 85 of the manual which shows how to remove the top cover.  You can skip over the part about removing the screen and jump to p. 105 for the hard drive.  This series of pictures will also likely help: http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/hp-pavilion-15-p000-disassembly/ If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I want to replace the 2.75" hard drive in an old IBM Thinkpad laptop. The replacement drive, however, is thinner than the original so there is a problem aligning the pins with the holes in the drive bay connector.

Has anyone had this problem? Exact pin alignment is critical. Is there a commercially available adapter shim that will solve the problem or should I try to make one?

A:Hard drive replacement

By any chance, does your old HDD have a metal casing?
If so, remove that case and put the new HDD in it.
It is highly unlikely that a newer drive would be thinner than the old.

I want to replace the SATA HDD in my Dell Dimension 4700 with a larger SATA drive, but I don't want to start from scratch because I only have the Dell restoration WinXP Prof CD, not the retail version. Is there a way I can "clone" the present drive? What hardware and software would I need? I once did this with Maxtor IDE drives, using Maxblast. But I think that only works with Maxtor drives. I haven't yet bought the HDD, so I don't know what brand I'll be dealing with. Also, there's only 1 SATA connector inside the computer, so I guess one of the drives will have to connect via USB. Any help here will be appreciated. Thank you.

Adding a new boot drive on my father's computer. Used the Maxblast software that came with the Maxtor 120 G. Everything worked fine except I noticed that the software had partitioned the drive into four equal sections--the same situation that had caused the need for a larger drive because the sections not located int he boot partition were not easily available. So I reformatted the drive into only one partition but then the copying from the original boot drive could not be completed (many attempts). So I partitioned it back into several partitions, everything copied as intended, but now it asks for some command something or other at C prompt. Will not boot windows 98.
I've tried reinstalling O/S, recopying original boot drive--nothing works. Somebody help me please.
Thanks-

A:Hard drive replacement

Yours is a standard PATA drive using a standard 44-conductor PATA connector. It is a given the system will handle a drive as large as 137 Gigabytes; but, it may go even higher depending on whether your board and OS supports 48-bit addressing.

Just be sure you get Parallel ATA (PATA) as opposed to Serial ATA (SATA). The connectors are very different. You'll need a drive with a 2.5-inch form factor.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Subcategory=380&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=

As you shop, pay attention to the fact that you can usually get a drive with a three-year warranty for just a very few dollars more than the cheapest on in the list. Example: This drive for $55 carries a one-year warranty while this one for $60 carries three and this one for $60 carries five years.

Sometimes the warranty periods aren't listed on the dealer's web site and you have to get that information on the manufacturer's site. All Western Digital Scorpio drives carry a three-year warranty while Seagate's Momentus drives carry five years. Most drives carry only one year so if you shop smartly and pay just a very few extra bucks, you get a far better warranty.

Another consideration: I would be careful about getting fooled into buying an extended warranty on a hard disk from a dealer. I have a lot of first-hand experience that the replacement procedure from Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor, Toshiba and Hitachi and they are all fast and relatively trouble-free. Two Seagate swaps I did recently were advance replacements. It cost me $20 to do it this way (advance) and Seagate furnished a prepaid return shipping label and a box to ship it in.

A:Hard Drive Replacement for PC

You would be better off getting one HDD to put in your computer and an external one for your backups (actually two external HDDs for backups would be much better since even a backup HDD can fail without warning but only one is better than none). The external HDDs should be connected to your computer only when updating the backups; they should not be permanently connected.

Using an internal HDD for backups is a bad idea because the same thing that can cause data to be lost on the main drive can also take out the data on an internal backup drive.

If you can swing it, I prefer using the Western Digital (WD) Blacks for internal drives. WD has a better reputation than Seagate for drive reliability and customer service. I've had only six Seagates; two died within a year and a third, a SSHD, was a disappointment performancewise. Of the 23 WD drives I've had, only two have failed; one other one arrived DOA (which could have been caused by rough handling in shipment), which the vendor promptly replaced and now is humming away in my machine happy as a kitten under a leaky cow.

If you are going to run your OS and programs on a HDD, I wouldn't get a third one; you can just put them on a partition on your one internal HDD separate from a data partition. The only way I would recommend a separate drive for the OS and programs is if you were going to upgrade to an SSD. An SSD will give you lightning fast boot times and program access and is an upgrade that will give you more bang for your buck than any other upgrade you can do.

If you decide to go with a WD Black for the internal drive, a good 1TB would be the WD1003FZEX. For 2TB, the WD2003FZEX.

If the price of a WD Black is a bit too steep for you, the 1TB Blue—WD10EZEX—is a good substitute. Unfortunately, WD doesn't make a 2TB Blue.

There are a variety of external drives available but they tend to be lower quality than internal drives. I like to use the WD Greens for my backup drives, plugging them into a dock built into the front of my computer. You can either use an external dock to plug them into or put each one into its own enclosure. I personally would prefer the dock, especially because of the large number of backup drives I have (12) but enclosures would make handling the drives easier.

Good numbers for 1TB Greens would be WD10EZRX and for 2TB, WD20EZRX.

If you would prefer to get one or two external drives, the 1TB WDBZFP0010BBK-NESN and the 2 TB WDBMWV0020BBK-NESN are fairly good ones. If you go with one of these, I especially recommend getting two since they are not as good quality.

Folks,
I want to replace my hard drive. It is a Toshiba 80GB, HDD2D32, MK8032GSX.

I was hoping to find one on a big site like Amazon or maybe even Toshiba. No joy.

I have found them for sale on small sites that I've never heard of and I'm not sure what I will be buying.......is 'new' really new or some sort of salvaged part.

Question: Is there any websites that give a substitute drive of known quality, eg: Seagate?
I'm assuming that if the physical size and connector pin layout is correct then I should be able to use any manfacturer?

Thanks

A:Hard Drive Replacement

Newegg.com or Outpost.com are good places to start. I think that drive is a SATA drive for a laptop, so you'll need a 2.5" laptop SATA drive.

If you need to clone your existing drive to the new drive, you will also need a USB to SATA cable to clone the data. Or if you have a desktop with available SATA ports, you can clone the drive from the desktop.

Otherwise you can do a fresh install with you notebook install discs.

Hey gang

Last week my "d" drive went south for the winter.
Thats all right I told it to stay there and I'm getting another from Maxtor under warrenty.
Since I'm not the local hardware-man is there anything I should know before I mount the thing in, hook it up, and put the power to it?
Right now my OS knows its not there and doesn't display it anywhere, but do I need to do prep work before surgery?

I have a HP 15-P199SA running Windows 10.  The laptop will not start. System test stops with a Hard Drive DST Check : failed.  FAilure ID : M37S3F-7R6874-MFPV6K-60R403.  I believe I need to replace the hard drive, the laptop is out of warranty. Can you suggest a suitable replacement? TY

I cannot find the access point/cover to the hard drive in my Toshiba 2515CDS
My replacement hard drive has arrived, and I feel pretty stupid, BUT, my
owners manual does NOT address this location. It shows every possible
detail for the top/bottom/front/back/and both sides, but NOWHERE is the
hard drive access cover shown. Can someone HELP???
Thanks alot!

See if you have any rubber feet on the base of that laptop. Remove the feet, and find your screws (most likely).

Hello,

I have a 40gb hard drive that has the OS on it. I am close to maxing it out and want to replace it with an 80gb hard drive. Is there a way to copy or clone the drive so I do not have to re-install everything? I have an external hookup to connect the SATA drive.

Thank you.
