Q: Solved: How Do I Upgrade A Slot A CPU?

Hi People,

I have an old Dell Dimension XPX T600 PC. I want to upgrade the cpu. However its a Slot A. I'm told that I don't have to upgrade the entire slot, just the cpu. How do I do this?

Also, what is the max cpu my slot A pc will take.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have G41 M/B + Core 2 Duo .2.40G E4600 & 2Gb GSkill RAM (F3-10600CL9S-2GBNT, DDR3-1333 PC3-10600)
Now I want to Add More 4GB + current 2gb.
Which RAM will compatible with my above configuration.

A:RAM Upgrade

If you are planning on using the current RAM also than you should stick with same RAM manufacture. You will have less issues that way. Without knowing exactly what your motherboard make and model is (G41 does not supply enough information about whom the manufacture is and what model), I am unsure how many RAM slots you have total and how many are in use). Try this link (Newegg - GSkill RAM) and you can choose which one fits your budget.

I recently decided I'm going to start using my old laptop again. I swapped the hard drive for an SSD and I'm quite pleased with the performance boost that got me. I am now looking for a ram upgrade from 2gb to 8gb.
I have a Dell inspiron n4010.
I went to crucial's website and did the system scan. The scan said that this would fit my needs.

Unfortunately, crucial doesn't ship to me. I'm forced to look elsewhere. I looked for something similar on another store's website. My question to all the experts out there is: will 2 of these work with my laptop and get me the 8gb of ram I need?
thanks for the help!

A:Quick ram upgrade question

Yes. The specs are exactly the same. Over the years I have used both Kingston and Crucial many times for memory upgrades and both are excellent.

You can also do a memory scan at Dell's own website. Just don't buy what they offer because they'll tell you to only buy genuine Dell memory blah, blah, blah. The Kingston will do you quite fine.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where or what I should buy? I watched a few videos on youtube on how to do the replacement but how do I know all the plugs on the new unit are the same and will fit? Because if they don't, I'll be more confused than I already am.

Hey, im planning on upgrading either my cpu or my gpu, and I need to know what would give me a more
noticeable increase in performance in gaming.

The gpu I currently have is a gtx 760, and my cpu is an i5 - 4430 3ghz
the cpu I'd upgrade to is an i7 - 4790k 4ghz, and the gpu I'd get is a gtx 970.

So which one should I upgrade?

A:Need advice on what to upgrade

The i5 is considered the so-called sweetspot for gaming and since games are gpu intensive I would upgrade the gpu first.

A few questions for you:
1. How much RAM do you run?
2. Are you getting any lag in gaming? What is your current average FPS?
3. What do you hope to gain that would make your gaming experience noticeably increased?
, Make and wattage output of your power supply?

Basic specs are:

Windows 7 64 Bit
Intel Core i3 2120
6GB Ram
Intel HD Integrated Graphics

Realtek HD Audio

If necessary I am able to disconnect 1 HD and the optical drive as they are not necessary, also to disable the onboard graphics if possible if this will help.

If you do indeed have a full ATX case, it will fit mATX as well as miniITX motherboards.

What exactly is your budget?

Newegg has kits anywhere from $100 to $800. -

These are nice kits for around $300
I know you said you didn't want to replace the case but for around 300 this is not a bad deal
You can find lower prices at Tigerdirect with smaller bundles. -
In my opinion don't get a kit with Celeron or Pentium, unless you are planing an upgrade in the future to i5 or i7. Bewarned though that Intel pricing doesn't fall as quickly as one would hope.

As for AMD suggestions, you'll need to speak with someone else. I'm not an AMD follower. I will admit that for the best savings AMD is the way to go. But then performance wise they struggle to compare to Intel, when you match prices. Which is the very reason I advised not to get Celeron or Pentium. The i3 or comparable AMD is the perfect performance level to be. Anyone needing more power will know they need more.

Hi guys, while playing DOTA 2 (on lowest settings), I am experiencing the problem that my FPS is down to 30 almost all of the time. Hey guys,

I am planning on upgrading my computer eventually so that I can play Star Wars Battlefront 3 when it is released at ultra super eye candy settings with extra bling bling with 60 FPS when it is released.

I am currently running the following setup :

i5 4570. Never goes over 40c under load.
GTX 780ti HoF
8 GB RAM Corsair vengeance

So I can play most games today without any issues, but I had some issues with Farcry 4 on ultra settings (runs fine on High most times ) so now I am worried if I can run Battlefront 3 when it comes.

So my thoughts are if I should only upgrade my CPU and it might be enough?

OR if I should get another 780ti Hof to run SLI? This worries me though since I have had my current 780ti for about 1 year and it would suck if it would break in a year and I would be stuck with 1 card and the whole investment would be for nothing (Or very expensive atleast)

A:Upgrade CPU or go SLI?

First, before investing anymore $ what are the publisher's recommended specs for Battlefront 3?

Second, there is some spirited debate whether or not the performance increase using SLI or Crossfire is really worth the cash layout. Personally, IMO, the cost compared to actual performance increase isn't worth it.

Third, the i5 is the sweet-spot for gaming.

* So find out first what the recommended specs are and take it from there...

A:Recommendations for my laptop upgrade

Unfortunately most laptops do not have the option of replacing components. Your options for this HP Laptop is: upgrading your RAM to 8GB (or more depending on how much max RAM the laptop allows) & changing the Hard Drive from the 5400 rpm to either a 7200 rpm or better yet a SSD. Laptops are not component swappable like the Desktop computers are. Most laptops have parts soldered in on the motherboard. You might be able to eliminate some "Lag" with the RAM and Hard Drive changes, but if you are looking for a drastic improvement, I would suggest a laptop more suited for gaming.

I was looking to upgrade my Dell Insprion 2330 all-in-one PC to a solid state drive, to improve the performance. Firstly, is this possible? If so, is it practical?

Currently I have the factory 2TB hard disk installed and it seems a shame to loose all that storage space. From what I have seen it may be possible to replace the blu-ray drive with a SSD instead? Primarily I would be looking to run my operating system of the SSD and then use the existing drive for the bulk of my storage. That being said I am not sure if I would want to loose my blu-ray player either. I don't use it all that much, but it is still nice to have it there. I understand I may need to make some compromises to make the upgrade, so hopefully someone will be able to point me in the best direction and tell me whether it is really worth it. My PC doesn't run slow my any stretch, but from what I have seen it can make a big difference!

Thanks in advance,

A:SSD upgrade for Dell Inspiron 2330, is it possible?

Technically speaking, yes you could replace the hard drive with an SSD. I have never changed anything (hardware wise) with an All-In-One unit, but it must be possible. If you are looking to keep the extra storage space, you could take the 2TB hard drive and put it in an external hard drive case and connect it to one of your two USB 3.0 ports. That way you still have storage space to use while keeping your Blu-ray drive and having a SSD for your Operating System and Programs. It wont be as fast as leaving it inside connected with a SATA cable, but it will be better then connecting it USB 2.0 or not using it at all. If you do go through with this "venture", take photos and document what you did each step and then post them up here. May come in handy for someone else in the future.

A:Friend needs to upgrade GPU

I would say yes it will support any PCIe x16 graphics card. Just make sure the power supply is large enough to support your purchase. I personally wouldn't spend over $150, on a graphics card for a Intel Core2 (LGA775) machine.

Fortunately I think the Core2 8300 still has a little life left. Especially for those that are on a tight budget.

Here is a site that will help you compare graphics cards if you need it. As you can see the GT 640 would be a worthy upgrade.,3214-4.html

I'm really new to the tech/ computer world, and know next to nothing about graphics cards. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what graphics card I can upgrade my computer to (if I can upgrade at all) I was wanting to buy the new Sims 4 game, but after having played a very slow and choppy Sims 3 for years on this computer, I'm ready to actually play a game smoothly without it freezing all the time.

Here's what computer I have:
Compaq Presario PC SR5601P
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 4400
Dual-Core Processor
Memory: 1 GB
Hard drive: 250 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Graphics
Windows Vista SP 1

A:Unsure of what graphics card my computer can upgrade to

Sims 4 System Requirements & your PC system results

For Sims 4 according to the link above, your CPU GPU and memory is lacking for even the minimum system specs. We can recommend a GPU, but that's not all you need if you plan on playing Sims 4. And if you get a stronger GPU, chances are you will also need a stronger PSU. If 300W's is all you have for power, you are limited to sub $100 graphic cards. Which would be fine for Sims 4, but then you also have a CPU and memory that needs upgrading.

Here again since I have the most weird problem ever which I have never seen nor heard of before. I recently upgraded the OS on a friends computer, from Vista to 7. However now I can't seem to get the onboard ethernet adapter to work, it can't be seen in device manager nor anywhere else. I have tried to reset the bios (by removing the cmos battery) and I have also checked that the network adapter is set to 'Enabled'. Also, when I connect the cable to the ethernet port no lights go on, it doesn't give any sort of hope what so ever. The cable is ok, the "modem" is ok, and everything else seems to be in order and yet it doesn't work.

Computer in question:
HP Pavilion 6530sc
Non-default GPU and added 1Gb RAM

A:Solved: Computer doesn't recognize the network adapter

Whenever you install a new OS, always take note of the model of core system hardware like GPU, chipset, and ethernet/wifi (there are a few others that aren't as important, but nice to have updated) since those are critical to your computers core functionality.

However, a quick google search of your model yielded me with your PC's system specs. Your PC contains a Realtek RTL8201N ethernet adapter. So far I am unable to find a driver from Realtek itself and the HP driver is not Realtek, but instead nVidia nForce.

So after a bit of searching, I came across this: it seems to me that you have an old chipset from nVidia. I am not completely sure, but I think you have an ION chipset. Try installing this ION chipset driver (64 bit) ==OR== this ION chipset driver (32 bit) and tell me if it works. It should include the necessary component drivers and if it works, it means you have an ION chipset like I suspected.

Here are the specifications for your PC BTW.

A:CPU upgrade

Not trying to discourage you, but have you ever replaced a motherboard in a laptop before? I have and it certainly was a pain to get done correctly. Honestly, if you do not have much experience doing these types of things, your best bet is to buy a newer laptop. Laptops and Desktops are almost two different worlds when it comes to hardware. Changing hardware out on a desktop is easier because you have more room, whereas laptops are compact and compressed down and much more difficult to swap out parts (especially Motherboards and CPUs because they have to be compatible with the laptop casing so that you do not have spacing or heating issues). You also might run into the problem that the hardware might not connect properly to the new motherboard (ie. Laptop Monitor wires not able to connect). Again, I'm not trying to discourage you, but if you want the change to be as easy as possible, you should look for a replacement motherboard that will work as a direct swap out to the old one.

Replaced the mobo (Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3), CPU (AMD FX-4300 Vishera), and RAM (G-Skill RipJaws 4MBx2) in an older system running WinXP (planning to upgrade to Win7 ASAP). Everything booted up just fine, but the HP keyboard and the Logitech mouse, both of which which work fine on another computer, aren't being recognized at all by the computer. No error messages, just not working. Not even lighting up. We've tried every USB port on the system, and even used a USB-PS/2 adapter to try it that way, to no avail. I'm out of things to try. My only thoughts:

1. Could USB be disabled in BIOS by default? If so, how do I change that without a keyboard and mouse, when I can't even access the BIOS?

2, Could the USB system on the new motherboard be defective? How do I test that?

3. Is there any possibility at all that it's related to the Antec 500W PSU--perhaps not enough wattage for this system? (Hard drives are all pretty old.)

A:USB keyboard and mouse not working after upgrade

Create and boot from a Knoppix Live CD (just google to find and download the ISO). If USB still doesn't work when you boot from knoppix, you know it must be either hardware or BIOS issue.

I finally got a new gaming PC on January 2013. It's an Acer Predator G3620 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Intel Core i7 Processor 3770, Nvidia GeForce GT640 3GB, 16GB DDR3 Memory, 2TB Hard Drive, DVD-Super Multi-Drive, Wireless LAN, Multi-in-1 Media Card Reader) When I first got it, it was amazing. My settings were on Ultra and the FPS was 60. I couldn't ask for more. But it's been a year, my FPS dropped to 20-30fps on medium settings. I tried reading all these topics on how to increase fps but it did not work. So I was thinking on upgrading my computer, but the problems is, I don't know what to upgrade. So can you please tell me what to upgrade or what to do to get better performance on my computer? (Oh, and the games I play are DayZ, ArmA, Battlefield, Call Of Duty, Need For Speed, Minecraft, KSP, Assassin Creed, F1, Medal Of Honor, DCS, Flight Sim, X-Planes, War Thunder, World of Planes/Tank, etc...)

BTW, I'm a noob at computers..

I'm considering the upgrade above. The problem is all the reviews on both coolers were made with different cpus at different overclocking settings. I even tried to narrow the comparisons to a common denominator, like the intel stock cooler, which is sometimes present in most reviews, but even then, different cpus were used, making the info not that reliable. After some reading, I understood that the H60 is more silent and, obviously, occupies much less space, win-win situation. But regarding the performance, the info is rather cloudy.

Does anyone know anything on the subject?

Personally I have played with H60's and Hyper212's and they both offer very similar performance. I would not count that as a worth upgrade except if you want a more silent system because the Hyper212 is already such an excellent air cooler and the H60 is kinda a low end liquid cooler.

Based on my experience, the same clock on the same chip result in the H60 (The only time I tested something like this was on a Phenom II X6 1100T at 4.0ghz) being a tad bit more silent, but the overclocking headroom remains the same for the most part (Within margin of error).

If you really want to move to Liquid cooling or upgrade for better clocks and a more silent system. Either an H80 style cooler or H100i (Or a likes AIO Liquid cooler) would be the best solution to go from a Hyper212.

With that budget and 500 watts, you should not be too limited in your purchases. One thing you need to check is if your Power Supply has a set of 6 pin connectors or 8 pin connectors because sometimes on the pre-bought machines they do not have too many.

Here is what I would recommend if you have at least 2 6 Pins available:

R9 280 £175
R9 270X £140

Those would both be excellent cards with the 280 being the best and the 270X being right below it in terms of performance. Both would be a huge step up from an HD 5450.

Slow for what purpose? Basic computing or are we talking about something more?

My suggestion would be upgrade to just 4gb of ram and then go from there if the needs are just basic. You could also grab an inexpensive SSD and upgrade it with a fresh install to add some better load times.

Beyond that it would just come down to what the machine is used for.

I have a HP a1020n Pavilion I use to do audio reconditioning on, it's running WinXP. I've maxed the memory and have a terabyte drive installed already. My question is; should I bother to try to upgrade to Win7 and add a DirectX 9 video card and a better audio card to replace the onboard chip or just junk it and buy something newer with Win7 packaged with it? I've read one thread here by someone trying to install an upgraded video (Upgrading video card on HP Pavilion a1020n with ATI Radeon X1600 Pro PCI-e) and it doesn't paint a very good picture of trying to do any of this. Any thoughts/advice are appreciated.

A:To Replace or Upgrade?

It isn't worth the money to upgrade in exchange for the performance increase you would get.

What do you audio reconditioning with? What software? Potentially you could scrap XP, install Linux and use Audacity. Only costs you your time, no money.

I've done a fair bit of audio reconditioning of speeches recorded on cassette tapes with Audacity.

I Made a mistake buying Samsung laptop model NP350V5C-A0EUK. It worked exactly for 1 year I.e till warranty period within 1 month from the date my warranty expired one of my RAM's stopped working - I bought a new RAM, after that my hard drive got bad memory sectors - I replaced it, then one of my RAM slots was dead, now there is a problem with the second slot.

My question is - By any chance can we get RAM slot repaired ?? - I suppose answer may be NO - I may be wrong as well

If the answer is NO, I suppose I can use other parts of the laptop like processors, RAM, HD, Key pads, display screen so .. on. Is there any way that I can replace some thing like mother board alone to get back my laptop to life ??

Thanks in advance for your suggestion

One friendly suggestion out of scope of this question - never ever ever buy Samsung laptops

A:By any chance can we get RAM slot repaired?

I'm willing to bet there is not one repair shop willing to take on the task. Not only would it cost more to do the labor than the motherboard is worth, it would take specialized equipment. Motherboards are dated so quickly, it doesn't pay to repair them. Unless the damage is very simple to work with.

What should I upgrade first ?

A:What should I upgrade first?

I'll save you a bit of time. You don't need to think of this as an upgrade. You need a whole new machine. Unless I am mistaken the following specs will be incompatible with new systems.

P4 systems nearly always will not even support Core2 CPU's.
HDD is likely IDE and is not supported without the addition of an IDE card on new systems.
Memory is likely DDR, where DDR3 will likely be needed.
You started a thread asking about online games that your machine can play. Chances are common with systems of your specs to only have a 300W PSU. That would be inadequate for anything other than on-board graphics. If you are looking at AMD's APU lineup, 300W's would be fine. If not, chances are you will need a better PSU as well as dedicated graphics.

Without knowing your full system specs, it is hard to say what all you can continue using. Long story short, I cringe when I hear someone mention upgrading their P4 system. Especially if suggest USB 3.0 ports on the front case. That would definitely dictate a new case, unless an additional drivebay is open for USB 3.0 ports. By the time you consider all the new possibilities available, you would notice hardly anything from the P4 era is still usable.

According the the Manufacturer details, you have a standard ATX PSU so as long as you stick with that, you can fit pretty much any inside your machine. It does look like the 300Watt version inside the machine is a bit short compared to normal PSU's, but as long as you still have space, it should fit just fine.

There are more concerns you should look at first, for starters is the socket type the same or do you plan on getting a new CPU along with it. Plus in my book, going from an Asus to a Biostar would be a down grade, why don't you post your specs and we can give you some assistance on upgrading your machine as just swapping boards would not change much if anything.

But to answer your question, Yes the PSU will still work.

27" Crossover 2560x1440p $329 (Has a better response time to the one above 6ms response time)

27" Yamakasi Catleap 2560x1440p $379 (6ms Response, this brand has some of the best reviews)

Name brands like Samsung and Acer cost a lot more, these get good reviews and are just fine for use. They all have decent reviews, yet the Yamakasi's from the newegg site always seems to have the most 5 star reviews and get good feedback. No matter what, your going to be limited in your choices in this area if you can pay a fortune lol. They are still in the Luxury price point range in my book until they hit below 300.

Hope this gives you an idea!

I am looking for a better gaming experience with BF4 and COD: Ghosts, not looking to top FPS but just to be able to play at max settings at a fair FPS (30). Here are my current specs:

CPU: Core i7 920 at stock and not looking to OC
RAM: 6gb
Video: GTX 560ti

I was thinking of upgrading RAM to 12gb and video to GTX 760 and wait a couple of years to replace the whole system but I am unsure if the CPU will bottleneck the performance of the video card? or if the upgrade will be good enough for the upcoming games 2014-2015?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

A:New rig or upgrade video card and ram?

CPU is fine, RAM is also fine, GPU is also fine.

Do you have the latest GPU drivers? Download from NVIDIA website.

I don't see how you can't get 30fps on High detail at 1920x1080 resolution.

A:CPU upgrade in HP G72

Before you upgrade, tehre is a major issue already with upgrading laptopts. This is the amoun of cooling that they have. The manufacturers will only put jsut enough in the machine in order for it to overheat. I would recommend looking into the heat produced by the two different processors (original and proposed), and also their power usage. The numbers are likely a BIOS versions. A laptop is ultimately not designed to be upgraded as it will be generally custom built. My personal laptop has a dual core 2.2GHz processor by AMD and the fan on this model is only just enough to cool it.

Need some expert help and insight on a possible upgrade from my current card. I want a significant increase in fps not just a minor one. I want to feel like the purchase I meant mattered, and wasn't simply to increase my e-peen size.
All of the above considered, I need it in a buy-able range for me. My current price range is anything below or near 200$
Currently considering:

It is cheap and looks like a powerful card. My concern is, will this last or is it just a small increase from what I am running. Keep in mind size shouldn't matter too much for I am running my components in a corsair 200r case, it is pretty room =).

A:GTX 560 vs ? Looking to upgrade

Ok to give you a good example, here is your card vs a 650 ti boost on passmark.

Your Current Card

650 ti Boost

Doing that wont be a significant upgrade honestly, at a 200 dollar price point, your upgrade options will be limited when you start with something like a 560 already.

Here is a couple of suggestions to try.

AMD R9 270X

This is basically an overclocked HD 7870 with some of the new support from AMD software and such. Looking at an HD 7870 on passmark scores, you are looking at a significant increase over your previous gen card.

Honestly, that's going to be the best you can get for 200 dollars, there is not much else in terms of options for cards at a 200 buck price point that would be a step up from a GTX 560.

The power supply you have is the bare minimum a 7950 requires. Make sure your case has enough airflow for the GPU and make sure you have 2 six pin PCIe power connectors free on your PSU. I would also recommend upgrading your RAM. A 7950 + i7 920 probably wont be able to play games at MAX, but very close to it (if you have 8GB of DDR3).

Might pay to see what AMD's big announcement is on the 25th September. Best case scenario is AMD bite the bullet and opt for a big die to put some pressure on the GTX 780/ Titan, although I'm picking that what they end up with might split the difference between the 7970GE and the GTX 780 performance wise.
Either way, unless it is strictly a PPS presentation, AMD should be announcing some kind of timetable. If that launch is close at hand you could see a nice realignment pricewise if the products look compelling and present sales start to stall out, with the added bonus that AMD would again drop prices to clear inventory.

If you're set on getting a card before then, I'd check the pricing on GTX 670's as well as 760's. You'll get a little more performance with the 670 especially if its an overclocked card (basically a GTX 680 once you hit that cards clock). If not, then the 7950 is, likewise, a solid option in the £180-200 range.

That video card will be compatible with your build. However, if you plan to use the PC for gaming or other graphically intensive tasks, you may want to consider upgrading to a newer model. A CPU upgrade may help performance in some games, but the GPU is what's holding you back.

But as I said, if you don't plan to game on the system, then it will be fine.

Can I use the same case and fans?Click to expand...

Yep, should be just fine, the newer motherboards will likely have more fan headers than your previous one.

Can I use the same HDs and the same RAID 0 ArrayClick to expand...

As far as I know (not being an expert on RAID), you should be able to the same setup with the new motherboard (although I'm not sure about retaining your data from your current build).

You may also want to consider purchasing an SSD, and loading your new OS onto that. It'll do wonders for your system's responsiveness, and may negate the necessity of a RAID array.

Can anyone spot something I may be missing?Click to expand...

I would suggest getting an aftermarket CPU cooler, so that you can properly overclock. If your going to get a Z77 motherboard and an unlocked CPU (such as the i7-3770K), it makes no sense not to overclock.

It would be useful to know exactly what the PC will be used for so that we can more accurately gauge whether you need to upgrade other parts of the build.

A:Am i able to upgrade my psu and processor?

Packard Bell PCs are notoriously hard to upgrade, I think because they use non-standard power supply and case connectors, like some Dells. Such an old system is not worth spending money on (I tried the same thing a couple years ago with a high-end Dell Pentium 4, and it was a waste of time and money - bottlenecks, freezes, BSODs, etc). I would start with a cheap socket 1155 board and an i3 or i5 processor, then it would be worth adding a decent video card and power supply.

I have x58 mobo which supports triple channel memory and currently I have installed two 2Gb memory sticks(total 4GB) and im planning to upgrade to 8GB. If I add another 4GB memory stick will it impact the performance of the system or is it safe to buy another two 2GB memory sticks. But the thing is buying two 2GB memory sticks is expensive than buying a single 4GB stick.

A:Ram upgrade for x58

Well for a start with 2 sticks of RAM you're not utilising the triple channel memory of the X58 platform. Adding a single 4GB or 2x2GB sticks still won't make it triple channel so just go with the cheaper single 4GB.

Best solution would be to buy a 3x4GB matching set and sell your current RAM but obviously that will cost more.

The IGP in Ivy Bridge is better graphics by nearly double than GeForce GT610. If you don't need much better graphics than the GT610, a motherboard with better graphical support could be an option. If you prefer not to use IGP, we need to know what your plans are for the graphics card.

Do you game on this PC or do allot of video processing such as editing?
Are you planning on going with multiple monitors?
What resolutions are you expecting in the future for the card?
Are you limited to MicroATX or do you have room for a Standard ATX motherboard?

A:Graphics card broken or is it the slot?

Hey Falconet. I think I would be far more likely that the graphic card is flaky since in your research the beeps point to the graphics card. If the slot were damaged, chances are you wouldn't get it to work at all, and since it worked one day and not the next, and since the slot itself won't break on it's own, I would suspect the card first. It wouldn't hurt to check both connection points of the cable the next time, although the beeps indicate the card's operation itself as not being right.

All the manual says is;
6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system memory
Dual/3 channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 2100/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

I don't really mind if its not triple channel just looking for some recommendations as I know the 1366 pin motherboards where discontinued a long time ago.

Failing that just get 3 identical sticks of RAM, ideally the same manufacturer/model as your current 6GB.

Hello everyone,

------- I would like some insight on what I should upgrade to.

------- I am upgrading because I would like a solid FPS on any game I play. I tried to play Crysis 3 on ultra and plooped.

(I would also like to run Skyrim with a bunch of mods, including graphic enhancing mods.)

System Information

Processor - AMD FX-8150 AMD FX(tm) Eight-Core ProcessorMotherboard - CrossHair V FormulaRAM - 16G DDR3Graphics - ATI Radeon HD 6970Not upgrading PS I am willing to upgrade or build a new rig. Thanks!!

What is your budget?
What FPS are you getting with your system on Crysis 3 in Ultra settings? You say it plooped, but didn't give a current FPS.
How many monitors are you trying to play games on (One / Two / Three ...)?
Have you thought about overclocking to possible increase performance? You can overclock the CPU and possibly the GPU to gain a couple more FPS. What do you have for a cooling system on your CPU (air cooled / liquid cooled - and what is it)?
With the system you already have, you should be getting Crysis 3 to run pretty good. I do not think that you will have to upgrade much because the system you have is a good one already. You will have to upgrade the graphics card if you are looking for better FPS (but this falls under budget).

Low profile cases are never designed to be upgrade capable. Sure you can get a low profile graphics card, but as you have already discovered the power supply will likely be your biggest problem. Most low profile PC's have proprietary PSU's, making it impossible to upgrade the PSU. With only 220W's, I can not recommend upgrading graphics.

The good news is your motherboard appears to be MicroATX, which is not proprietary and will fit another case if you wish to pursue upgrading. In all honesty though, I'd say be happy with what you have. And when you decide to upgrade, look at a building/buying a new rig.

But, why do you want to? How much money do you have to spend?

I have a dell dimension 2400 and wish to upgrade the CPU and ram, and I was wondering what is the best CPU and ram this motherboard can handle. Thanks.

A:Wish to upgrade

Holy Cow, I had one of those machines with a P4, 1 gb of ram, and a Geforce 5500. Honestly, you dont have many options for upgrading at this point, that machine is getting on in age. Let me see what can be upgraded as I had trouble in the past upgrading, but your going to be stuck to a better P4 at most.

Hi folks, I love to do video editing using adobe premiere, but as videos are recorded more often in HD even from my smartphone feels like there is not enough power anymore.

My system is Biostar Hi-Fi A85W motherboard with AMD A8-6500 and 4 GB DDR3. Now I am wondering if a memory upgrade to 8 GB would really make sense in that case? Or could it be a too slow CPU and I have to replace my current board?

I will be glad to hear your advice!

A:Advice for Memory Upgrade?

That is a newly released CPU, so it is not slow. Plus, it is a quad core. If you just do basic computing tasks, the 8GB will allow you to multitask more. Check out this site for what RAM to buy:

A:BIOS Upgrade question

BIOS updates are always considered risky and recommended only when necessary. With that said I have never had issues while updating, but that doesn't mean I never will. What I'm trying to say is no one can guarantee 100% success.

After studying the links you provided, I'm thinking you have a Core2 processor that your motherboard will not support.

BIOS updates are software updates. Board revisions are hardware updates.
The P2.10 BIOS update seems to require the V2.0 board revision in order to support the CPU in question.

In other words it looks as if the BIOS update supports your CPU but also requires the V2.0 board revision. Without the needed hardware, the software update is useless (unless you need the update for another reason).

My computer. Lenovo IdeaCentre K300 has a slot, about 3/4 as long as the memory slots. Does anybody know what it might be for? Because I'd sure like to fill it. I just feel a computer is not complete with empty slots.
Pre-thanks to all who reply ;0)

A:What's this slot for

I'm not following. I've called up a few pics but I don't see anything other than PCIe, PCI, and DDR slots.

Hi guys,
I'm planning to upgrade my gpu and I thought about cpu too. I have AMD X3 720 BE CPU and ASUS ENGTS 450 GPU. I feel that this gpu aren't good enoght for me anymore so I'm thinking about GTX 650 or HD7770. Is that would be a worth update, or I need to upgrade my CPU too?

A:GPU + CPU upgrade

Go for GTX-660 performance instead of the 650. If you are honestly not happy with your GTS-450, then you must want to double your performance. The 650 would be an upgrade over a 450 but not by much.

A:Where should & can I upgrade?

If you really want to play BF4 on max settings you're going to need an entire overhaul of the GPU/CPU/mobo.

What resolution are you playing at and what is your budget?

Hello. Im looking to upgrade my current system that is really out of date for gaming.
Mobo Asus p5g41t-m lx
CPU Intel dual core e5700 @ 3ghz
4gb ram (2x2 gb) ddr3 1333Mhz
Ati HD 5450 1GB
some generic 450W PSU ( I am upgrading this first asap)

I want something that can play in high/ultra settings games like Bf3, Crysis, AC sagas, Metro 2033/Last Light, Total war sagas, Tomb Raider, among others
I will be using a max resolution of 1360x768 for those games, and I have a $220 budget for video card + PSU.

I am highly considering a Radeon 7850 1GB version + a proper power supply but I need more suggestions. Also how much bottleneck will I get if I put that card with my current dual core?

A:Need advice for upgrade

The dual core will bottleneck the GPU. The 7850 1GB is a good choice, but in order to play the games at ultra settings, you will need a better CPU (quad core). I think the 1GB of VRAM may struggle at ultra settings. Also, If you ever upgrade to a 1080P monitor, the 1GB of VRAM will struggle.

A:Is my PC viable for upgrade?

It's not a bad motherboard, per-se. It just doesn't have the options you'd get in a typical off-the-shelf motherboard. Also, you're pretty much stuck with that CPU; an upgrade on that front will give you a marginal increase in performance.

I'd advise upgrading the GPU and power supply. Perhaps you'd also want to invest in an aftermarket CPU cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 to keep things cool, although I suspect the heat build up is largely due to the sub-par cooling provided by the HP chassis. I'd recommend getting this GPU and this PSU, but be warned that this may cause things to heat up much faster, since the GPU does run pretty hot on stock fan settings.

The PCIe x16 slot is for GPUs, it is the highest bandwidth of them all. I can explain more later, I am in a rush now.

Hi all My parents have an HP Pavilion entertainment laptop that frankly didn t run well when it was new but is really struggling to open programs now I am thinking of putting in an SSD as a boot drive and moving the HDD into the optical bay and upgrading the RAM to the max of Also possibly Pavilion 1100? HP dv6 Should upgrade I upgrading to Windows I think would confuse them My dad does a lot of photo editing using Lightroom Other than that it s basic word excel amp Internet browsing only Is it worth it for me to put a few hundred dollars I figure about into the laptop or should they look for a new desktop instead It would be worth it to me to extend the life of the laptop with a view to buying new down the road Here are the current specs HP Pavilion dv t- GB RAM Intel Core Duo T Should I upgrade HP Pavilion dv6 1100? Ghz bit Vista ATI Mobility Radeon HD Thank you nbsp

A:Should I upgrade HP Pavilion dv6 1100?

I would keep the HDD, clean install Windows 7 (check out this article for help:, it is for Windows 8, but the same applies to Win 7), and upgrade the RAM. I wouldnt add an SSD because your CPU is pretty old and the SSD will be bottlenecked by it and therefore it would not help. I recommend Clean installing Windows over the SSD because clean installing gives the "New" PC feel to old hardware like an SSD does to semi-new PCs. The RAM will also make a huge difference. After you clean install Windows, report back and ill tell you what drivers you need (you only really need a display driver).

I think it is a good choice to wait for a new laptop down the road. This upgrade will gain you a few years, but dont expect to game on it. Keep in mind, clean installing Windows will delete all of your data! So use these sites to help assist you in your back up adventure: (For Windows 7, but Vista is basically the same I think).
I recommend this less since it transfers old settings (which can be causing the performance hit you are experiencing) to the new install:

Windows 7 will set you back a hundred bucks: 7
But it is worth the upgrade. If you are a student you can sometimes get discounts thru Microsoft but since they want to separate themselves from Win7, they may not offer this anymore. But they still do for Win8, but it is hard to find an institutions other than universities.

Use this tool to find out what RAM supports your system: (tell me if the link doesnt work since I am running OS X now and it automatically sends me to the download for OS X, so I cut off some of the URL)

Finally, install the Catalyst Software Suite after you have clean installed Windows 7 and added the RAM:

Keep in Mind: You should install the newest BIOS revision for your laptop before upgrading to Win 7 to avoid errors:

Don't be afraid to ask questions . Sorry if this essay is intimidating .
