I have an old computer with a 1Ghz Pentium 3 processor. The motherboard only has PCI slots, no AGP or PCI-e. Is it possible to get a graphics card which fits into a PCI slot?
Cheers
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Yes. This for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131082

My video controller/slot is: AGP8X and i was told this card "ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 256 MB AGP 8x" was compatible, was i lied too?

Looks to me like you are right. The card should work.
Did you try putting your old card back in to see if it works?
Hey,
I just tried putting together a computer. The computer turns on but the screen wont turn on. I think this is because it doesn't have a graphics card, i dont know which type to put in because the motherboard didn't come with a manual so i am posting this pic to see if someone else does.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here has tried this, I have a spare monitor and wondering what you think about doing this. I have an OLD ATI Graphics card (fits PCIE of course) and I know it will work but wondering if it's worth the effort. My 560ti has only a 2 monitor capability and just 1 other PCIE x1 slot is free just above the card.
So anyone here tried this? (I know this works if you do it right.)
(N.B. I have read the websites about how to do this, I am looking for personal, first hand experience.)
Haven't tried it.
I'm confused, though. Are you trying to fit a PCI-E X16 card in an X1 slot? I don't think it's possible.
You can certainly try an X1 card in an X16 slot. I've never seen an X1 graphics card, although I know that they exist.
(I've got an X1 soundcard running in a slot that is X16 mechanical, X4 electrically.)
Okay so I have been looking around for a while and found 2 graphics cards I like and I was wondering what slot my motherboard has. Here are the CPU-Z details. I really need to know if it is a PCI-E x16
Graphics Cards:
-http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7800.html (NVIDIA GeForce 7800 PCIE x16)
-http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_6600.html (NVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCIE x16)
CPU-Z:

Thank you so much in advance! If you have any answers, questions, comments, or concerns leave me a comment and I will try to get back to you ASAP.
It appears the motherboard has the following expansion slots:
One PCI Express x16
Two PCI Express x1
One PC

Hi. I have recently aquired a very old computer (8-9 years old). I am looking at replacing the old agp graphics card because it is not working properly and then sell the computer for quite a low price. Any way.
I have looked in the case and took the card out and I belive that the graphics card slot is agp 2x. The card has two slots in it leading me to belive that it is a universal 1.5v 3.3v card. I am just wondering what cards my computer would accept and whether a 4x card would work ok in a 2x card slot.
Any help apreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have a dell optiplex which I think has a PCI slot but I am unsure if it is a PCI. As the connectors are so different.. I wish to get a low profile graphics. It is a slim line desktop.. Any ideas..
Is this system for use at home or in a office/network setting?
http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/318305-cannot-identify-slot-need-graphics-card-pc.htmlIm upgrading my nephews computer , but his agp slot is only agp4
So basacally what is the best graphics card to put in ?
I was going to put a 6600gt in but im not sure if it will work as its an agp8 card
any help appreciated
it will work if the card says x4/x8 but if it doen't I would try the fx series.
Ok, so I am helping a friend upgrade his desktop's graphics card. Apperantally, he currently has an integrated card, ad I belive you can install a dedicated card despite that, correct? Also, we are not sure exactally what slot the card goes in, we belive it is this one:
It is possible. Does your friend have the MotherBoard Manual? Its best to be sure.
What's the model, and serial number of the board?
And yes you can install a separate card, but you have to disable the integrated graphics through the BIOS.
Alright so I got an Aspire M since One day it suddenly card Graphics or slot? the is broken it wouldn t start up Beeping noises are heard from the CPU long short After a bit of research it seems Graphics card broken or is it the slot? that the computer could not detect the graphic card which results in it not starting up So I reinserted the graphic card Failed Did it again Failed Repeated for hour Still hearing long short beeps Then after a few maybe hours I tried again reinserting the graphics driver connecting the monitor cable and turned it on It worked Graphics card broken or is it the slot? I didn t know what happened but it worked After Graphics card broken or is it the slot? I was done using the computer I turned it off The next day today the problem came back Reinserted plugged monitor cable turned on and it works Now I don t know whether its the graphic card or the slot Wonder if replacing it will work I m afraid that if I turn off the PC the problem will return Any help would be appreciated I never opened the CPU since for cleaning nbsp
Hey Falconet. I think I would be far more likely that the graphic card is flaky since in your research the beeps point to the graphics card. If the slot were damaged, chances are you wouldn't get it to work at all, and since it worked one day and not the next, and since the slot itself won't break on it's own, I would suspect the card first. It wouldn't hurt to check both connection points of the cable the next time, although the beeps indicate the card's operation itself as not being right.
I'm curious about the PCIE technology. I know there are four PCIE types (1, 2, 4, and 16) all with different size slots. As it stands now there aren't very many card at all that use these slots except for Video Cards, which use the 16. My MOBO has two video card slots (I originally thought I would use that slot for another video card and still might do that) only one of which I am currently using.
Is there any intent in the future to use these slots (i.e., the 16s) for other add-on cards? Are the only for use for video cards?

Provided that slot you have is agp x8 and not a slower slot then it should work fine.
Only thing, there was no mention of minimum psu spec in your link. You need to have a look at the label on the side of your psu for its wattage and its amperage on the 12volt rail.
You might want to blank out your windows serial so than no-one else can use it.
i have a graphics card which its interface is PCI-E 2.0 x16
is it compatible/can work with my motherboard which has a slot of PCI-E 3.0 x16
so can it work without having damage
Yes it will work fine.
http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/257787-pci-e-2-0-graphics-card-compatible-pci-e-3-0-slot.htmlAre there any graphics cards with the fan/cooler on top of the card.
My Gigabyte mobo has one of the PCiex1 slot so close to the graphic card slot that it is unusable and I need both of these 2 slots. I have removed graphics card and use onboard graphics due to this problem.
hey guys i want a low cost graphics card for my pc .i have motherboard which has pcie x1 slot .could u suggest me list of low cost(50$-70$) graphics card having SM 5.0
I'm not familiar with SM 5, but I believe that it is identical to DirectX 11 support.
This vendor only sells in the US and Canada, but it gives you some idea what exists:
Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Video Cards & Video Devices, Desktop Graphics / Video Cards, PCI Express x1, DirectX 11
Are you sure that your motherboard has no PCI-E X16 slot? The last person that I encountered here thought that his board had no PCI-E X16 slot, only X1, but he was mistaken.
I just purchased this pre-built machine:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7375900
Acer Aspire AM3970-UR14P DT.SJYAA.003 Desktop PC
I'm attempting to order a graphics card upgrade ( probably an affordable Nvida GT 650 ti . Obviously the card will consume some space due to the fan. I'm trying to figure out if the card ( or a similar dual slot PCIx card) will fit onto the motherboard. I know from past experience that a lot of non-custom built PCs have little to no room for expansion.
I've searched all over the net about this particular model number of Acer Aspire and can come up with no information about the motherboard to check for myself.
Would anyone happen to know where i can find info about the motherboard for this particular model of Acer Aspire desktop?
** Also, i do intend on removing the included radeon card.
It is hard to tell if it would fit the case, but the specs state that your computer only has a 300W Power Supply and that definitely will not work with the card you list.

I looked up the type of issue those beeps meant for my motherboard and it was a video error. I found that when removing my GeForce 8800 GT from my PCI-E slot and plugging my monitor directly into the integrated graphics card everything works fine. It booted up and had to reinstall the new drivers for the GeForce 1650 (Integrated), but everything worked fine. I figured that meant my graphics card or RAM was broken, so I took it to my closest computer repair store. They tested the power supply to see if it was supplying enough power to the card and it passed. They also tested the RAM and the graphics card to see if they were broken, but they both passed. They told me to either leave it with them for a week or just use the integrated graphics (which of course stubborn me chose to take it home for now). I am willing to leave it at the store if necessary and I also have a compatible motherboard in mind that I could buy if that will solve the issue, but before I make any actions I figured I would take advantage of these forums and hold out on using the different card for a week or so.
The type of computer I have is a Gateway GT5662 and it is less than two years old. I upgraded the graphics card with the GeForce 8800 GT, the sound card, and the power supply to a 500 watt. Could you have a look if in the Power Plan Management, the PCI-E slots are not set to lower powering?
I recently got an ASUS NVidia GeForce ENGTS450 DC SL/DI/1GD3 graphics card (which is PCIEX16 2.0) for my PC, but when I connect it to the PCIEX16 (3.0) slot I don't get a display, if I connect it to the PCIEX4 slot I do get a display!
Anyone got any ideas why? - Thanks

I hope this finds you well.
Yesterday I got a new 22" monitor for my desktop PC but as I only have a VIA/S3G Unichrome IPG graphics card I am unable to set the proper resolution for the new monitor.
I thought this would be fixed by getting a new graphics card so today I purchased a GeForce 9500GT only to find that it doesn't seem to slot into my motherboard. I fear I may have to return both the graphics card and monitor to the shop!
Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? My motherboard is a KM400 8235.
Thanks for your time...and happy new year!

Hello My first post
Anyway i really need to upgrade my computers graphics card ( Nvidia 7600 GS 512mb intergrated version) as its flagging in this day and age and its stopping me playing most games now (i can just scrape skyrim but it falls under its min requirments) I will get a top of the range laptop soon when i go to uni but will keep my desktop for now so i need to add a better graphics card (Rest seem to be fine for the mo) .The problem is the integrated cards is already in the PCI express slot (opened up comp and i can see it in the slot) will be safe to remove the board and would a new card function in it Thanks for the help.
If the 7600 is in the PCI e slot, by definition it is not integrated. You should be able to pull it out and swap in a newer card without any issues, so long as your power supply can handle it. Be sure to remove your old graphics drivers before performing the upgrade.
ok so for this christmas i want a graphics card for my old dog hp media center pc m7067c
I don't know if its a PCI slot or a PCI express cause it really doesn't say so.....
So if it is a PCI, can i get one from best buy becuase it has the option to get a PCI video card or a PCI express.
The memory for it i guess they said it can hold 512 or 256mb.

That's an old mobo....and all the slots PCI not PCIe. That being said you might find a decent PCI GPU for that mobo.
If you really want to get creative or ambitious, uprade your MOBO and RAM and then get a GPU. You can keep all your original hardware and case.

Hi,
I have a Radeon HD 4500 graphics card that's plugged into the PCI express slot on my motherboard.
The heat sink on the graphics card is huge and covers the next PCI slot down completely which I now need. I don't want to buy a new graphics card as the one I have works fine and I can't afford a new one.
I can take the heat sink off but I don't want the thing to overheat and blow.
I have looked for a heat sink but I can't find one this small enough to fit.
Can anyone offer a low cost solution to the problem?
The graphics card is a Radeon HD 4500.
Cheers
It will self destruct in the blink of an eye with no heat sink on it. Also, the current heat sink is as big as it is for a reason. IMHO putting a smaller one on is probably not a good idea unless it specifically states its compatible with that video card. Water cooling might work but that will likely cost as much as finding a new video card.

You do need to go into BIOS and disable the onboard video card in order for one plugged into a PCI slot to work. That is most likely your problem.
There are diagnostic cards that you can plug in to test your motherboard such as the one at this site:
http://www.pc-diagnostics.com/pc_diagnostics_tools/flippost_isa_pci_bus.shtml
You also might call nearby computer stores to see if they have the equipment there and will run the diagnostic for you if you bring in your motherboard.

I m trying to figure out if my problem is my graphics card EVGA GTX GB or my motherboard Biostar TZ A LGA This computer is a brand new build Please click my system specs for more details I have two PCI-E slots There is one x slot and one x slot of the time my machine freezes a few seconds after powering card in work, in Graphics x4 ?? fine works x16 PCI-E doesn't the slot on at the Graphics card in PCI-E x16 doesn't work, works fine in the x4 slot ?? BIOS logo screen or a few seconds after that while inserted in the x slot Sometimes it works however yet it is so infrequently that I ve given up on the x slot for now It will even freeze after I ve entered my BIOS settings page even just while browsing around in it The same graphics card in my PCI-E x slot works fine if you ignore the fact that it s running at it s potential speed At least I can boot the machine up I ve spoken with a few different professionals about this and the conclusion is that my problem lies either a with my PCI-E x slot or b with my GTX Apparently the graphics card COULD work just fine in the x slot and still be damaged Now I know that you re going to tell me to try a different card in my computer or try the card in a different computer However that isn t practical for me at the moment I was wondering what you guys think or if anyone has experience with this first-hand What are you leaning towards Mobo or Gfx card nbsp
Should also have mentioned that I've run three passes with Memtest86 without any errors.
This was really perplexing. I am trying to install a Galaxy GT520 on my Inspiron 546. So i take of the slot i need in the back-plate and fit the card into the slot. But...the card didn't fit into the back-plate. It's like a millimeter off.... There is a little slot that the back-plate slots go into but it doesn't fit into the slot. It's almost like it needs to be a millimeter longer. Thanks to anyone who helps.

GT520 is a PCI and should fit the 546, line it up as ^^^^ shows and press hard, dont ram it in there, but apply a bit of force.

One problem that is common when installing these big video cards into Micro-ATX motherboards is that you may not get the card to fully seat properly because some obstruction is holding it up.
Carefully check the entire card/MB area to see if there is anything that may be propping the card up.
Remove the card and re-seat it looking and listening carefully to hear the rear tang on the video card "click" into place.
Someone help me here my 2400 can't play great games like counter strike source and battlefield 2. So I'm wondering if a radeon ati graphics card will work with my system.
Ouch, just checked it now, you have no AGP slot
Yes, you can install a PCI graphics card, however, be warned that these cards perform horribly, but you will be able to run CS Source.
The best PCI graphics card I can remember of is
GeForce FX5500 128MB PCI version.
It will run CS Source and BF2, however, prepare for a slideshow (especially in BF2).
i have a nvidia geforce 6200 256mb g-ram card which fits into the agp x8 slot.
when im in the middle of things say aim or the internet etc i get lost of red blocks and shapes flying all over the screen, if i move the card about a bit while switched on they do sometimes stop and all is back to normal, im not sure if this is to do with heating or the slot itself?

My opinion ...
Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.
The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.
hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?
The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.
You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.
Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?
Lately, My laptop is very slow in recognizing my usb stick, or my Hard drive (usb 3.0) or my sxs cards through my express card slot. It 's also slow in recognizing my sd-cards through my card reader. I have a very fast laptop. A lenovo W530.
I just started a while ago, and I can't get it to recognize faster . Everything else works just fine and fast.... but it takes up to 4 minutes to recognize these things.
Can somebody help?

Hey tidri. 2 things come to mind if it previously worked. One is a reinstall of all the drivers for the mobo, and the other is a full AV/Malware/Rootkit scan. If everything checks out, a full format and an OS reinstall would be my third move.
I want to get a new graphics card and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what speed the PCI slot would be on my 1.6GHz Pentium 4 HP Vectra?
Which graphics slot is best to use? AGP, PCI or PCIe X1, PCIe x16. I also heard of PCIe 2.0 but my computer doesn't have that one listed. Suggestions.
Well if you want to use a graphics card in your computer you can only use the slot or slots which it has available. Most computers either have a PCI Express slot for a graphics card or an AGP slot for a graphics card, a few computers have both AGP and a PCI express slots for a graphics card. Like it is very difficult to assist you, unless one knows what sockets your computer motherboard has, if they are occupied by any cards already and what you are trying to do? If I am right in thinking it has a PCI Express 16 slot which is currently un-occupied and you are using the intergrated graphics, well the AGP does not come in to equation as an AGP card can not be used in a PCI Express socket. PCI Express cards use a more modern and better technology than AGP cards and the only reason for buying an AGP card is if one has a motherboard with an AGP socket and one wants to upgrade one's motherboard graphics capability from say intergrated Graphics to a dedicated card but is locked out of the PCI Express option by the lack of a PCI Express socket.

Hi. First of all i have to admit i don't know a hell of a lot about computers. Basically what it is is that my current computer is from dell so has intel integrated extreme graphics and no agp slot. What reasonably cheap but ok quality graphics cards could i but to fit into a PCI slot
Well, the 5700le is about as good as pci can get(still not as good as agp).

I think I'd get the first one. What model dell do you have? Some dells can't have their integrated graphics disabled in the bios(dell was too lazy to put the option on the bios), check in your bios(press del or f2 when you boot a few times and it should get to the bios) if there is a video setting(like integrated or pci).
If $90 is too much, then consider this for $70

Hi, I have a EVGA e-GeForce 7600GT 256 MB PCIe Video Card which supports the SLI technology allowing me to link up 2 or more graphics cards for greater performance. Now this card has DDR3 memory. I wanted to know if I can link it up with a DDR2 memory graphics card which also supports SLI. If I can, how will this difference affect performance?
Now this card has DDR3 memoryClick to expand...
Which card?? "A card with DDR3 memory", or "A thingy with a red switch on it" tell us just as much.
But if it's not another 7600 GT you're trying to SLi, just forget it, especially if you're going to buy the other card.

Dear All,
Need a quick suggestion before i seal the deal tomorrow.
I intend to buy the Radeon HD 5450. It has PCI-e 2.1 x16 bus interface.
My motherboard model is Foxconn WinFast NF4K8MC. It has PCI-e 1 x16 graphics slot.
My query is- will the graphics card work with this motherboard or not?
Kindly respond fast plz..
Thanks in advance,
Troy.
I'm using a 5850 in a pci-e 1 x16
I see no reason why it wouldn't, though foxconn is not nearly as high end a board as the one I have.
that is to say the interface is backwards compatible.
Hi for the last months ive been trying to fix a but Nvidia Random not card with restarts card graphics graphics AMD problem that ive been having with my computer about months ago I did a major pc upgrade where i replaced my motherboard processor ram heat sink power supply and case the only things I used from the original computer where HDD's SDD and my AMD radeon HD gb Now ive have the most strange issue where i can be watching a video off the HDD or surfing the web on youtube etc and not long after I Random restarts with AMD graphics card but not Nvidia graphics card start the activity my computer will turn off like if I had flicked the switch on the back of the power supply and then it boots back up again and will run fine until i start up an activity again and then it does exactly the same thing and reboots there is no BSOD shown nor Dumps Created Ive tried many things to sort this out and have RMA'ed the power supply and the motherboard the motherboard wasn't a direct replacement as they didn't sell my original board anymore which was a gigabyte ga-x -ud now i have an asus p x deluxe I have tried only plugging in one HDD SSD and then tried a spare HDD when that failed i have tried one ram stick at a time and still nothing now heres where it gets strange whilst trying to rule out differnt hardware i switched my AMD card out for a very old mb pcie x nvidia graphics and since then my computer has been running marvelously i can have it playing videos for hours days even although i havent properly tested for days and not a single problem at all The main difference between the cards is obiously one is nvidia and the other is AMD the nvidia one doesn't require any form of external power from the power supply where as the AMD one requires pin connectors and the AMD card is Massively more powerful when compared to the nvidia one the AMD one can run Practically all new titles on max with ease whereas the nividia card struggles to play gta sa on medium so i think ive narrowed it down to a driver error with amd and another driver with my new board a damaged AMD card a second dodgy power supply or something else that i haven't thought about or discovered yet Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any suggetions as im pretty much all out of ideas at this point and its starting to grind my gears that i cant use my expensive new computer as it should be Any help is appreciated Joe P S sorry about any spelling or punctuation mistakes made but Im very tired at the time of writing this and will be going to bed

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.
I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.
My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

You sure can!!,not sure what you mean by shared graphics though
My graphics display suddenly stopped for my computer. My PC is not even recognising my monitor, I tested my monitor with some other PC's and it is working properly. I though graphics card not working.??
But since my existing graphics card is gone and there is no on board graphics card on my PC I am not able to uninstall existing graphics card and install new one.
Could some one please suggest me what to do in this situation to see some thing in monitor so that in can start doing Uninstall/Installtions.?
Thank you very much for your replies in advance. I really apprecite it.
Thanks
Satish.
You could always stick the new one in and boot up in safe mode. Then proceed to uninstall all the remnant drivers. That *shouldn't* cause any problems, but it may be choppy when you boot up.(I've had this happen before, swapping a Riva TNT2 for a GF6600).
Hey guys,
I seem to be a bit confused on something. Will a 4x AGP Ti4600 work in an 8x slot on a new mobo I'm considering? I'm just wondering cause I thought the voltage was different...The mobo I'm looking at is cheap, but I have to go cheap... http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848aluv21.asp
the 8X AGP slots are backward comapitable with 4X. but I would think twice before buying anything from PC chips.
My sd card slot has worked fine on my 4 different sd cards since 8 came out, but suddenly all cards are read only (and work fine on other computer). So I believe it is a card reader hard/soft problem.... Any thoughts? Thanks

There are no ways to lock a card in the slot by the operating system, it's just stuck. Have you tried using something like tweezers to pull it out?
have an old xp2000,512 pc 2100, epox ep8kha board, pny ti4200 vid. my daughter uses it for online games. runs fine 99% of the time. randomly screen goes black. monitor light goes yellow computer doesn't shut down. reboot and will run for a while and do it again. tried an old agp ati 7000 card ran a couple of days then did it again. pretty much convinced it's the agp slot. is there any way to make it live again?
Check the capacitors on the motherboard. Around that era of ePox motherboards, there was a big capacitor scandal overseas, and many motherboard manufacturers mistakenly used inferior capacitors, which were prone to failure. I had to replace the caps on my 8rda+ and a few others as well. They're the little 'towers' on the motherboard, and if the tops of them are bulging, then they're no good. Here's a good picture to show the difference. Check all the capacitors on the board, they're probably scattered about in different places.
Other than that, if you really think it's the slot, then there's no real way to fix it, unless you can see a faulty connection somewhere. Socket A motherboards should be pretty cheap by now, or you might want to consider upgrading the whole thing.
I need a new graphics card.My Mobo is an Asus P4S8x.While browsing through my BIOS settings(with a deep look of Puzzlement)I noticed I can set my Primary VGA BIOS to AGP or PCI.
Does that mean I could use a PCI-Express card? And if so would there be any advantage over using the AGPslot which is8X??
No. You can use AGP or PCI (not PCI express).
I have an EMachine mn 2824 with a SD card slot on the front of the case. Today I bought a Canon PowerShot A400 camera. When I plug the card into the slot nothing happens. It works fine through the camera with a USB connection. What am I overlooking?
Is a light coming on when you put the card in? If not, the reader may not be connected, or it may have failed. Make sure you are inserting the card into the correct slot and make sure it is facing the correct direction. Usually the label is up. If the light does not come on you may open the case and see if the reader is connected to the motherboard.
Nothing is neccessarily going to happen when you insert the card - you have to go to My Computer, then find the SD drive (it's going to be E:\ or F:\ or something similar) and view its contents.

Nope!....ISA is ISA and PCI is PCI.....there is no converter for these cards. Where did you ever find an ISA SCSI card....must be an antique.

I am buying a notebook, and was wondering what the Type II PC card slot refered to. I have found a few sites on google, they say that it is memory, but some of the brands also advertise they have DIMM slots, so i got confused on that. they also say it is plug and play, so that must mean that it is external, right. so is it like USB and firewire, or is it like a new floppy drive? I know a little about computers, so i really just want to know what i can put in this slot and how that helps me in the future.
I am waiting for my new Yoga 900. I read the so-called "full" SD Card slot is not 32mm deep as a standard SD Card. Can you confirm it is shorter? Is it 16mm deep like in the Yoga 2? Is there an adaptor for 128GB micro-SD that has the perfect size and been tried?
A standard SD card goes in only to 16mm, not the full 32mm depth.

I went ahead and bought a GeForce2 MX 64MB 4X AGP card and forgot that I didn't have an AGP slot on my motherboard. I was wondering if there is anyway to use some sort of adapter so I can still use the board, instead of going through the process of having to sell it.
Hi Setan
I doubt that there is any way of using an AGP card on your motherboard. No one would bother to make an adaptor when they can just make a PCI version of the card.
Hello,My only question here is, what's the SIM card slot in my laptop for? My laptop is an HP Elitebook 6930p and it has Windows 7 32-bit. I used the SIM card that's in my phone, but that didn't do anything. Do I need any new drivers? Or do I need to purchase something in order for my SIM card to work? Thanks in advance for any answers.
The SIM card from a phone probably wouldn't work in the SIM slot. The SIM slot is for WWAN (mobile broadband) such as you used to see for USB 3G modems. Phones are typically provisioned differently with different options on the provider side which could prevent a phone SIM card from working properly in the SIM slot. The following document discussing the WWAN function of the notebook. You will need to contact a provider and activate the service to get a SIM card for it. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?prodSeriesId=3688868&objectID=c0108652...

I recently bought an AGP 8x nVidia 7600gt. However, it doesn't fit into my AGP slot. It is loose and I am scared of putting too much force on it that it will dmaage it.
I'm also not aware of what that tag on the end does?
The smaller of the two slots is facing the front of the computer. I'm also thinking that it isn't aligned properly.
Any help?
Sometimes, certain cards just don't fit on certain boards. I've had to return a couple because they hit against something. A couple other times, I managed to make them fit by shaving off an edge, but this is risky work and no circuit traces can get damaged in the process.
How do I assign a specific IRQ number to a specific PCI slot on Windows XP Pro 32 Bit system? From what I understand ACPI needs to be disabled, preferably by way of F5 during fresh XP Install.. After this is done, do I still require a motherboard that has a setting to manually set IRQ number in it's BIOS? If so does anyone know a Socket 1155 Motherboard with this feature?
Haven't messed with this in ages. From what I can recall, some IRQ's are tied to certain slots. So you would need to move the hardware to a different slot. You can also change them via Windows: http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/change-irq-settings.htm
Hey there! This is my first post here, so bear with me We recently swapped out our EliteBook 8470p and 2170p's that had it's sim card slot behind the battery for use with the mobile broadband module (at least if i remember correctly for the 2170p).But now, on the 820 and 840 G1's I'm unable to find this. Shouldn't it be somewhere? I mean, how else are my customers going to use the mobile broadband module? Thank you.

With additional eyes from a couple of my colleagues we found it. I'm attaching a screenshot of the sim card slot on the 820. Maybe it will help others It was under the battery on these models as well, but with a barely visible SIM marking.

The PCI card (Adaptec 29160N RAID) is 32-bit but the expansion slot on the motherboard (Super Micro P4DPR-6GM+) is 64-bit 66MHz PCI (3.3V). The card's POST doesn't show up during boot. Is this because it's 32-bit and the slot is 64-bit?

Xigmatek Midgard Review - Page techPowerUp The PSU I intend to buy is Antec High Current Gamer W Antec High Current Gamer HCG- W Review - Page techPowerUp Check my profile specs if you need more information The question is Will the dual-slot card fit in my case with the other components I don't know much about these things thanks in advance
The case looks ok, the psu is enough though some would say to go with a much stonger one.
Dual slot card means, that you can't use the slot below the 16x slot that you put the card in. I would say yes it fits, though you must do some calculations about the case to make sure that you have enough space.

I'm new ish to tech talk about comps, i just build them with help from my professional buddies, so bare with me!!
Nope, completely different and incompatible slots. Can you exchange your vid card for an agp version? If not, then you will need a new mobo.

I want to purchase a specific sound card for my laptop (the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card), but, according to Dell, I do not have the required PCMCIA slot. Instead, I have an Express Card slot.
Would the PCMCIA soundcard work in the Express Card slot? Some of the Dell technicians have said that it will not work, but they have been wrong in the past.
Are there any other options if the sound card would not work in the Express slot? Dell said something about buying an adapter, but they weren't sure as to what kind that would be.
Thanks for any help.
Plz can you suggest a graphic card for PCI-X 64-bit/133 MHz slot ??
PS: i preffer nvidia card`s.
Regardes jksynapse.

On my sister's computer which is a Dell Inspiron 560 it has an SD Card Slot. The SD Card Slot stopped working a while ago and I was trying to help her fix it. The drive letter for it is S: and it says please insert a card. The reader itself is lighting up saying that there is a card in there. If i go into disk management it says the drive is formatted as RAW but it was formatted at fat32. I tried reformatting but that didn't work. The card works in her camcorder and other SD card slots. I also tried multiple cards. Any ideas for a fix or why it could be doing this? Any help would be appreciated.
I would have a check in device manager to see if the device is operating correctly and no caution marks are showing

Hey! The integrated 3-in1 memory card reader does not recognize sd cards (tried two). Updated drivers/computer, everything. Installed the realtek card reader driver. Nope, still nothing. Have explorer show hidden files/empty drives, nothing. Both cards are recognized by another computer so it's not the cards.Any ideas?
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/sd-card-slot-not-working/td-p/5825948Hello, I recently discovered that my T520 has a SIM card slot (inside the battery slot) I tried to put my cell phone SIM card in it, but there's no reaction (no "New device connected" popup dialog). What should I do ? Is there a driver + software that needs to be installed ?Which one? Thanks in advance!

Your T520 must have the appropriate WWAN hardware (radio card and antenna) in order to function. Otherwise the SIM slot is just a dummy slot. Do you know if you have this hardware installed?
What is the model number of your T520, something like 4239-46U
My Acer laptop has an empty express card slot that I've just discovered. What can I use this for? Thanks.
