I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. My touchpad  is not working. I tried all uninstall and reinstall the driver but doesnt work. I hope you guys can help me.

A:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron B130, yes old I know. Long story short, let a friend borrow it who prefers a regular mouse, they installed it. Now I cant get my touchpad to work AT ALL. I have gone through Dell website and downloaded driver, nothing is working. Under my Control Panel-Mouse- under hardware all I have is "HID compliant mouse" I do have a tab that has the Synaptics symbol and the word buttons, no option to enable it anywhere. If anybody can help me it would be greatly appreciated!!

A:Synaptics Touchpad not working at all

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

I have a HP Pavilion DM4-3099se Laptop with a Intel Core i5 dual core processer and 6GB of RAM. On this laptop is a Synaptics touchpad and uptill now it was working fine. It recently started glitching and now when i move my finger on the touchpad, the mouse moves but it repeatedly stops and then starts moving and then moves in all different directions. I went to the Synaptics website and installed the latest drivers for the touchpad and the installation was successful but the trackpad was still the same way. My external wired mouse works fine right now though. I tried restoring my system the earliest point there was on the list and still no improvement on the touchpad. Please help. Thank you.

Thanks everyone for reading but I already fixed the problem. My computer shipped with two Operating Systems, one being windows 7 and the other being HP QuickWeb. I just booted into HP Quickweb and my trackpad was working fine and then i booted back into windows and it worked perfectly after that. I just though i would let you know and can somebody please close this topic because i dont know how to. thanks.

A while back my laptop's power cable was fried in a power surge. No damage seemed to have been done to my laptop. but now I fear there may have been some peripheral damage.

In any case, whether sure to the power surge or not, my touchpad is not working when the computer is plugged in. When the computer is not plugged in, the touchpad sometimes works, but it is spotty.

I have no idea how to fix this. Any help?

Two things:

1. Does the touchpad have an indicator light that shows you when it is activated? The one on my HP does.

2. Is there an On/Off button above the touchpad...there is on my HP. Did you accidently turn it OFF

Laptop is an Acer Aspire z with Windows Vista Home Laptop Synaptics Aspire Acer Touchpad Issue Premium -bit fully updated to current I installed an update to Avast's engine and Acer Aspire Laptop Synaptics Touchpad Issue after rebooting when I got to the Windows logon screen both the mouse buttons on both the built-in Synaptics touchpad and an external USB mouse will only select an item but nothing else happens In other words if I click on a user account it selects it but it doesn't allow me to enter a password Likewise if I click on the shutdown icon at the lower right of the screen it just selects it but nothing else happens But I found that if I hit the tab key and then the enter key to select something on this screen then the left mouse button starts working again on the touchpad and the USB mouse When I get into windows the left mouse button on both the built-in touchpad and the external mouse continue to work but the right mouse button on the built-in touchpad doesn't work However the right mouse button on the USB mouse works I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this - uninstalled Avast I'm now using MSE as the anti-virus on this machine - uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for both mouse devices multiple times using different versions for the touchpad one set of drivers from Acer another set from Synaptics - uninstalled the Synaptics device from device manager and let windows reinstall it upon reboot - updated the drivers within device manager it didn't find any that were more current - restored the system back to a system restore point before this started happening - dinked around with all the settings available for mouse - tried toggling FN F the Acer key to turn on off the touchpad functions - tried SAFE mode - same behavior - tried SAFE boot with nearly all services disabled I'm beginning to think this might not have anything to do with drivers since neither mouse device works correctly at the Windows login screen until I hit TAB and then ENTER I think the internals of Vista may be hosed somewhere Acer said that I should do a wipe and reset back to factory state I'd sure like to avoid this Any thoughts Thanks

Since my internal DVD-Burner has died I have a serious problem, regarding my laptop: I can't reinstall by using the bootfunction of a cd.
When I reinstall, I can only do it from an OS (XP) on my c: partition to d: which means I have to keep it there as a dummy for installations.
The BIOS improvements for this laptop stopped a long time ago and there was no "boot from usb" included by the HP tech's!
Is there a workaround for this issue?

You don't elaborate what your problem is ? is it working at all or is acting strange ?
Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's disabled ?
Otherwise, you may just have a bad piece of hardware there, take it to a shop and have them open it up and check.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. This will definitely resolve the issue. this information helps.Regards,Vidya

I just got an Acer Windows 8 PC, and none of the touchpad gestures seem to be working. I have tried using several recommended third-party tools and all of them said that I didn't have the correct drivers, even after I installed all of them.

I have gone to mouse --> Synaptics --> Settings, and the only options there are to enable/disable the buttons.

Is there any way to enable multi-touch?

The Synaptics touch pad gestures are not working on my Aspire E1-572P, although I have tried loading updated drivers from both Acer and Synaptics. When I try to habilitate it in the contral panel, it works for several seconds only. I tryed it with and without the normal mouse - no differrence.
My computor is Acer Aspire 5610, Windows XP. Never had viruses.
I have tried to download a new driver from the link I have found in this post:

Maybe I should delete the old version driver and then put the new one?

A:my synaptics touchpad has a mind of its own

Hello Lionpride. Welcome to the Forum.

Try this:
In the Taskbar near the clock you will see the icon for "Synaptics Pointing Device". Right click on that and uncheck: "Tap to Click".

See if that helps.

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 the Synaptics PS/2 touchpad no longer has scolling ability. I have tried vertical and horizontal, as well as 1 and 2 finger. The touch pad is enabled and scolling is enabled. The current driver is which was updated by windows update. I have downloaded and installed from the Synaptics website and it didn't work. I have tried the Windows 8 driver from Synaptics as well and had no luck (failed to install even in compatibility mode). The original Compaq Windows 7 driver wouldn't work either. Unable to find any solution by searching or reading the forums. Any help is appreciated.

Does anybody have a tip where I can find free Synaptics Touchpad Drive downloads. I have 7.0 and overnight it froze on me.

I have only recently bought my laptop and it came with Vista which I have been hating and now this latest problem occured.

A:Synaptics Touchpad drive

Hi Zsofia,

Uninstall the driver and then go to windows update. It will detect your touchpad and install the correct driver software. You should be able to use your touchpad even without the synaptics driver as Vista has native drivers for your touchpad.

Good Luck!

OK here is the problem,
I was using the touch-pad as always and it was working just fine all morning
than I put my system in standby when i returned my touch-pad was not responding. When I checked the driver properties under device status it read:
device could not start (code 10).
I rolled the driver back and nothing then I tried to uninstall/reinstall the driver from a download I got from the gateway website still nothing finally I tried a simple system restore (not a complete restore w/disk just restored back to sometime yesterday) still nothing even though it was working fine in the time frame i had restored back too.

if Anyone has any ideas let me know, I would greatly appreciate the help.

My HP notebook was Windows 10 and was downgraded to Windows 7.   My touchpad is too touchy and I continuously find that it moves around the screen while i am typing.  I thought that I would just disable it.  It shows up on the hardware as a mouse PS2 and it does not have a disable button.  I just deleted the install file but it constantly re-loads on a re-boot.  I love my HP notebook, but the touchpad is driving me crazy, please help me.

A:i have a synaptics touchpad under Windows 7.

Hi: Use the W10 touchpad driver from your notebook's support page. It also has the drivers for W8.1 and W7. That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Hi all,

I tried to install a wireless mouse for my laptop, which I could't get to work(!). No problem, except that when I returned to using my normal Synaptics Touchpad it had lost it's Virtual Scrolling capability. Also, its touch-sensitive areas no longer work.

Furthermore, Synaptics Touchpad seems to have (semi-)disappeared from my computer ("semi" in the sense that the touchpad itself still performs basic functions like moving and highlighting.)

Also, I can no longer find Synaptics in my tray.

I can't find the Touchpad anywhere in Control Panel to get at the settings.

IIRC, there used to be a Synaptics properties window somewhere that allowed you adjust all this stuff - again, I can't seem to find this anywhere.

(My computer: Dell Inspiron 5100, Windows XP, no other problems with computer.)

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

I am running an Acer 1350 laptop with a Synaptics touchpad V5.4. Under 'Device settings' it refers to Version 7.2.0 from 15Nov 02.If I go to Acer site this the version Acer still offers for my machine. I am finding that my touchpad works fine for maybe 30 minutes from startup but then stops dragging the screen when I move my finger on the pad until I lift my finger. It then move a distance in proportion to how far I have move my finger. As anyone experienced this and found a reason/way of correcting??

So I've upgraded to windows 7 64-bit and now I'm having trouble even installing a Synaptics driver. No matter what version I use (I've been all over the internet, including Gateway's site) the install always fails, most often with this screen.

I know this is a tough one, but I'd appreciate your help.

Hello! My laptop has an issue about its mousepad. It was working fine last year before I double-tapped the upper left part of my mousepad (to disable it for a bit). I forgot to enable it again, and I turned my laptop off. Until then, it does not work anymore. I tried to follow the instructions that I read from different forums, but nothing happened. I already uninstalled it, then reinstall it again, but it is still not working. Can anyone help me? My laptop is a Pavilion g4-2220tx, bought it last March 5, 2013. I'll send some details of my driver. Anyway, the driver Synaptics PS/2 Touchpad is not found unless I turn 'Show hidden drivers' on to make the driver appear. Thank you to anyone who's willing to help me!

Hi, Try the following. First of all, download the Chipset driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. When done, open Device Manager, right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall. When this has completed, open your Downloads folder, right click the chipset installaer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.

A:HP 455 G2 synaptics touchpad is a mess now

So bad noone is able to answer this question. :-(Update:- touchpad always starts ok when ProBook is switched on, but halts after an indeterminable (that is always changing) time;- I am unable to determine the trigger - I do not know what (later starting background process and/or clash of processes??) causes this behaviour;- when operable it is like trying to drive a waterbed in the Monaco Grand Prix - lags and slides;- when stops the bottom 10% of the touchpad reflects to left/right impulses and the buttons work well;- quite often is starts again if I move a plug-in mouse and switch back to touchpad after a minute or so - but NOT always;- had a "sticky Ctrl" issue earlier (had loads of fun...)- this is NOT the same;- if the touchpad is stuck with no signs of life I switch off Synaptics processes from Task Manager - I gain a very strange touchpad without the extras of Synaptics and Shaking Like Hell. WOA? but it works for people with lots of patience.I think this is a challenging issue, so dear Hardcore Hardware Magicians - HELP ME!Cheers!

Just Installed (clean install) Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop today, what a pain, tried an update first on my 32 bit but had problems so I decided to go ahead with installin 64 bit as my computer was compatible.

Anyway, got it installed and I'm re-installing my software.

Main problem is I can't seem to get a driver for my touchpad on my laptop which is a Fujitsu Siemens just over a year old. Fujitsu do not have 64 bit drivers but I got one from which is supposed to be compatible and signed but when I try to run it I get the error message that it is not a Win32 app.

Anyone got an answer for me.

A:Synaptics Touchpad vs. Windows 10

Please try the following steps to resolve the issue.1. Click the Start orb, type msconfig in the Start Search box and hit Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.2. Within the System Configuration dialogue box, click the Startup tab.3. Look for any entries named KHALMNPR or similar, and uncheck the box next to them (there may only be one).4. Click OK and restart your computer.

So I was updating my drivers, and had wanted to update my Synaptics driver. I had removed the older version of Synaptics driver (because I was required to) and wanted to restart. My computer restarts, and I try to install the latest version of the Synaptics driver, it doesn't work. It says "install failed." I have tried multiple times.

Any help would be appreciated!

I did a clean install of win7 (yeah for me!) on my acer aspire 5336-2524. I also downloaded the device driver for Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad, unzipped it, and I think I installed it? I did an auto search for the best driver and result was the best driver was installed.

My problem is this, there used to a function within Personalize > Change Mouse Pointers > then touch pad. Here is where I could stop the function of the scroll bar along the right side of the touch pad and make scroll work with two fingers.

I don't know if that function was part of acer or Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad. But I want it back!

also there is nothing of the original factory install because when I made all the restore and back up it was crap, I found out after I needed it.

Since I am fluent in Spanish went to the Google Translate page, this may be helpful:

I have a Toshiba Satellite A210-11T (PSAEGE). Tired of Windows Vista installed from scratch Windows 7 and I was amazed. I had some small problems of drivers / support that could solve, but two of them still can not get the solution.

The first is the Synaptics TouchPad (mouse on the laptop) that does not work. With no drivers for Windows 7 went down this Toshiba model for Windows Vista but no luck, not down from the Synaptics website.

The other thing is that it does not work the FN key on the keyboard. Bah, the key work for me because a light comes on, but does nothing when combined with the above functions (eg mute, increase or decrease brightness, etc.).

I will appreciate if someone could guide me to solve these two problems.

I'll have a look.

Windows 7 laptop (Lenovo) 64 bit.

I want to stop all the extra features of the Synaptics touchpad on my computer but still be able to use the pad as mute. I mean, I don't want the pointer to grab onto objects and open links or do anything unless I click on that object. I don't like all these new features and don't know how to stop the pointer from opening links. It also opens and closes apps. I went into the mouse properties and disabled all the features but the mouse still has a mind of its own. Is there any alternatives? I don't want to only use an external mouse as I often use the laptop sitting on a couch and a mouse is not convenient.

I have an Asus z63 notebook and am having troubles speeding up the cursor for the Synaptics touchpad. When I go into control pannel and go to the mouse motion settings, the curson speed is set to the slowest position. When I try to increase the speed, it automatically resets itself to the slowest speed. I really cant figure out how to get it faster. With my cordless mouse enabled, I can change the cursor speed no problem. However, the touchpad speed always goes back to the slowest position.

Meanwhile, I'm looking for the v18 drivers and see that you have v19? Where are these drivers available?

If i restart the process, it usually closes again within 15 seconds of the process being restarted. Does anybody have any insight about what causes this and how it can be stopped?

Also, after i restart the computer, SynTPEnh.exe stays on for a while and the cycle i described previously continues.

because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing

That's a fairly common issue and my wife and daughter solved it by getting Toshiba Notebooks that have a switch between the touchpad and the keyboard to turn the touchpad off, both use a external mouse. The problem stems from the sensitivity of the touchpad and where a person's thumbs want to rest while typing. Adding to the problem is the type of touchpad that has the vertical and horizontal scroll areas.

I'd go into Device Manager and uninstall both instances for the touchpad and reboot, should install the drivers again, handy when an installation gets corrupted.

I am trying to change the setting so that I can use my left hand as the primary hand. As soon as I click that option, my Ws 7 computer locks up. Everything is useless- including Task Manager. I can activate it, but it does not respond to commands.

As best I can determine, only trying to change the "hand" locks up the computer.

I have found no info elsewhere, so I am depending on folks here at TSG to come to my aid.

Fixed! See Below Post
Laptop: Sony VGN-SR190E
OS: Windows 7 (64 Bit) (upgrade from Vista)
Problem: Synaptics Pointing Device (driver) - Gone

My touchpad is way too sensitive and driving me crazy. In Vista, there was a Synaptics Pointing Device utility that would enable adjustments to the touchpad.

In the Sony drivers section (Windows 7, 64 bit) for my laptop the Synaptics driver is no longer there. The Sony Forum is giving me no help/reply to this question.

Anyone here have any ideas of where I could get a suitable driver or another method of adjusting the touchpad?

I Appreciate any help,

Dear Support Team nbsp For a couple of days the mouse on my HP EliteBook behaves erratically nbsp It starts right away at the start of Windows when the log-in screen with the different profiles appears I can neither click on any profile nor on Synaptics PS/2 TouchPad Port Malfunction the shut-down button However I can select a profile via the arrow-keys and the Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad Malfunction Enter button of my keyboard Once Windows has loaded the mouse acts Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad Malfunction normally nbsp However after a couple of minutes or sometimes hours the mouse starts to behave erratically again Either the left-click is activated repeatedly also turning the pointer into scroll mode or neither left-click nor right-click are reacting at all Funnily I discovered how to unfreeze the mouse in the latter case I simply need to start the Windows Task Manager via Ctrl Alt Del and the arrow-keys Once the Task Manager is open the mouse works normally again This does not apply to the former phenomenon though when the left-click is activated repeatedly nbsp I have consulted many forum entries and tried many remedies My BIOS is up to date and I also updated the mouse driver via the Device Manager This last attempt even made things worse Since Windows installed the driver Synaptics TouchPad V Synaptics Pointing Device - v Jun I cannot use the Tap and Drag function by holding the second click on the touchpad any more even though the option is activated in the aforementioned TouchPad Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad Malfunction V settings This applies to all times even when the mouse is not showing the erratic behaviour mentioned above nbsp So much in all details Please let me know what I can do nbsp Many thanks rhadamanth

I recently upgraded from a Probook s to a newer G with both running Win Pro bit nbsp I'm struggling with the new G and feel it's a driver issue rather than a touchpad issue although I could be mistaken I've searched HP and Synaptics websites for assistance with no success Maybe someone here can assist Here are the issues I'm experiencing on a continual basis Touchpad accuracy seems really poor-missed taps on pad and left click button-cursor jumps about screen-cursor doesnt always move with finger swipe-sometimes right click issues Probook 450 G3 synaptics/touchpad menu pops up when swiping with finger absolutely not hitting right click button Cursor scroll image freezes on screen most annoying thing -When two finger scrolling the cursor image will freeze a phantom image onto the screen It only happens on scrolling function with the scrolling cursor image nbsp When images freeze on screen I still have functionality of the cursor nbsp It's just that I have these cursor scroll box images overlaying whatever I'm doing which gets annoying nbsp When you hover over the frozen image it shows the circular busy cursor image nbsp Sometimes there will be or more frozen images on screen which overlay almost any program you open I can clear them by ending the SynTPEnh exe process in task Probook 450 G3 synaptics/touchpad issues manager which starts itself back up immediately I really like the two finger scrolling and would hate to have to resort to other methods I'm currently running the latest Synaptics driver and have also tried to rollback the driver nbsp Also updated Bios to nbsp Nothing has helped I've run the diagnostics on the touchpad and did not have any of the functionality issues although you lose the synaptics enhancements Same when using the touchpad in safe mode I've tried disabling a variety of Synaptics functions with no Probook 450 G3 synaptics/touchpad issues success Anybody experience the same or have a solution

Hi, I have a HP WIN8/M6-1125DX. I recently uninstalled the Synaptics TouchPad on accident and have been unable to figure out how to get it back. I tried using a system restore point but it repeatedly says that there is an error in the restore.  Can I reinstall the touchpad software or find it on my computer somehow? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

You could try the "Vanilla" Synaptics drivers.

The touchpad on my HP G62 laptop was less responsive than normal. I tried changing the properties with no improvement. So I went to HP help and noticed that there was a driver update for this device. So I ran the update. Then the touchpad barely worked at all and a notice box said the driver was incompatible with current system. The advice on the web included more than one remark advising to not bother with the Synaptics website as it is unreliable. I did it anyway. Synaptics recognised I had a legal copy of Windows 7 Home and I downloaded the suggested driver. Which actually was a new version entirely. Now the pad is back to life just like old times. The HP update was outdated. Every time I have used any HP updates I run into problems. I suggest HP users forget all about the "Support Assistant" and seek more credible update sources. Thnx, gnuguy.

Hi All,

I just installed Windows 7 Build 7600 and I am trying to get the touchpad scrolling to work on my Dell Inspiron 1420. I installed the synaptics drivers from their website (v10.1.8 x64) but when I go to mouse properties and click the synaptics tab it only allows me to configure the right and left click buttons. How can I configure the scrolling of my touchpad? I NEED it!

Also are there any iTunes guru's out there? I have my library all setup on my vista partition. Is there anyway I can get my library/playlists on the Windows 7 side...I don't want 2 copies of my music, I want it to all link to the files on the vista partition but I have a feeling I will have trouble either getting the playlists in or trying to gain access to those files on that partition....

thanks for all your help!

We could tell you more if you filled in your system specs in the lower left corner of your post, but Im assuming you dont have this tab. Im running a dell as well but IM using an older driver that was installed by win 7, and it works

In terms of Itunes I also dual boot and keep the music files on one partition (win 7) but as long as you point itunes to where they are stored, it should be a problem. the problem comes when you want to sync the updates (adds/deletes) on both partitions.

Hello everyone,

when I first upgraded to Windows 8, everything except the accelerometer was working perfectly. Now, weeks later all of a sudden my touchpad (synaptics) stopped working. I un- and reinstalled drivers, reset windows, reinstalled windows.. nothing worked. I checked in the driver settings, and it says it's working fine, but no input gets through.

Does anybody else experience similar issues? Or does anybody got an idea how I could solve this issue? My Acer Aspire 1825ptz might have a touchscreen as well, but using the desktop without a proper mouse is still a pain.
I uploaded my dxdiag, so you can have a look into my specs.

Thanks a lot for any ideas,

Try uninstalling touchpad driver in Device Manager, get the Acer Driver from here and re-install it.
If that doesn't work, try the driver from Synaptics.

So I wanna install it for my Vista Ultimate, but none of the editions will install properly. The version for XP installs properly but I cannot configure its settings ... The Vista version doesn't install completely. I really like the virtual scrolling feature, so is there an alternative?
I installed an earlier version (for XP) and it works, but I can't change the settings. I click the icon in the tray, click Device Settings tab, and click Settings under Devices. Normally a box should pop up but for me nothing at all happens.

I have an ASUS U series notebook and would like to have a tap zone for right click so I don't have to use the button.

However, under tap zones, I am not able to select an action from the list box.

Has this feature been disabled on my laptop due to the size of the touchpad? If so, is there any way around this so I can use tap zones?

Hi, I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite a100. I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works? I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install). Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10". Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens. Any help?

I am trying to find out if there is a way to disable highlighting text with the Synaptics touchpad. I have (enable tapping) checked. I want to be able to use tapping but not to drag & highlight text. I would like to highlight text with holding down the left button which I am able to do but sometimes text is highlighted when I don't want it to. Am I making sense?
Thanks for any help

A:Help with Synaptics Touchpad highlighting text

I don't think you can have one without the other. I think you would have to disable tapping to stop that from accidentally happening. That or use a firmer touch.
