Wifi connection issues- fine on ethernet

Q: Wifi connection issues- fine on ethernet

I am on a Win 7 based computer. New apt, new internet connection. Old router.
Connects to net fine with an ethernet cable.
Connects to the wifi signal (strong signal) with password authentication BUT no internet access.
All my laptops are experiencing the same issue- so it does not appear to be related to the computer.
I then connected the ethernet cable to a Linksys E2000. Again, good signal, clear connection BUT no internet access.
What can I do??
IPCONFIG/ALL>myTCP.txt did not produce any results in DOS (why??)
Thanks in advance.....

Preferred Solution: Wifi connection issues- fine on ethernet

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Got an issue with using the Ethernet where it would Blue screen my PC. If I use WiFi, it's fine but the moment I use Ethernet it crashes with a paged fault in non paged area BSOD. I have updated drivers, cleared and reupdated drivers to noavail. Also bought a new NIC and cat5 cable and it's still causing stop errors.

Crashes point to a problem with your display card and possibly your RAM. I also see Service Pack 1 is not installed, which may be the underlying factor for all the crashes.

Hi I have a ZyXEL wireless router - it has worked without issues for years However yesterday evening my wireless router suddenly stopped broadcasting a signal different PC s and a wifi dongle attached to our TV were suddenly all unable to find my network The loss with ethernet. of Sudden fine works wifi, WLAN light on the router was still lit up I connected my Acer Aspire Z laptop to the router via an ethernet cable and it worked fine I connected to the router and it said there were no errors I phoned ZyXEL support this morning and they dialled in confirmed the router was reporting it was working They installed inSSIDer on my PC and verified no signal was being picked up - but other local wireless networks Sudden loss of wifi, works fine with ethernet. were being picked up They suggested buying another modem as it was very old and could have just reached the end of its life So I bought a brand new Sitecom N x modem this morning connected it up and have the exact same problem All the right lights are on the modem solid WLAN DSL and Internet lights I can connect via an ethernet cable but none of my devices can find a the wireless browser but can find other networks and connect to them I ve spent hours on the phone today to various tech people and gone through channel switching changing encryption etc but nothing has worked The router is sat in the same place it has been for the last years and the laptop is inches from it but still no joy As far as I can see I ve ruled out PC problems - different PCs running different Windows versions - neither can find my network but can find others ISP issues - I can connect to the internet via ethernet Modem specific issues - I ve tried different modems both have the same problem - both manufacturers support say quot it does sound strange quot but cannot suggest what might be causing it Any ideas nbsp

I have recently bought a router, the Fritz.Box Home Server 1&1 VDSL. I have set it up via wifi and can connect to the internet without a problem.
However, I would like to connect my PC to the router via LAN.
When I put the LAN cable into my PC and the router, both my PC and my router react and tell me there is a connection but they do not recognize each other. The router says there is something in LAN1 and the PC says there is a LAN cable without a connection. I cannot access the router via LAN, only via wifi.
My PC uses the Killer Network 2200e driver, I tried removing it and then manually adding it again, it did not work. My IPv4 settings seem fine, too, I have no idea what to do now.

A:Ethernet won't connect to router, wifi works fine

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

My PC with windows 7 is the only computer with issues in the house. Ethernet works perfectly but wifi doesn't even when I don't have the ethernet hooked up. The wifi says it is connected but browsers, steam, and Itunes don't work. I have Bitdefender A/V and already tried uninstalling it, no change. I also uninstalled steam and Itunes with still no change. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the wireless adapter. I tried looking and I don't recall downloading or installing anything around the time the problem started. Before I try replacing the adapter itself, I was hoping for help here since I saw a very similar problem in another thread.

I have my LAN setup:
ADSL modem ->Router->Compute*r A , Computer B (wireless)

My laptop connects fine... but all of a sudden it just stops connecting to the internet. However the connection has a strong signal and still says it is connected...but it just lags and doesnt connect. Then it'll come back for little while. Sometimes I'll repair the wireless connection and it works again but only for a few minutes.

But here's a spooky thing....all this doesn't happen when i unplug my AC! that's right I'll have it plugged in to the power outlet, and wifi comes and goes...as soon as i unplug it and it runs on battery...the internet works fine...yikes

A:Solved: wifi connection coming and going..but LAN connection is fine

I can't see your exact positioning, but it sounds like you need to move your "brick" so that it is not interfering with the wireless signal when plugged in. When I forget, and start getting the same thing, I move mine at least a foot away from the wireless adaptor and out of the path to the router.

This morning I turned on my computer to notice that it was missing several drivers, including graphics, keyboard and USB controller. I have since fixed all of this yet my Ethernet connection will not show on available networks (I have no WiFi card in my desktop). I ran an ipconfig and attatches the results. The modem is fine, and the cable works in my laptop without fault. When plugged into the desktop it flashes green but no connection available

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Thanks for using the basic requirements, all info provided were very helpful. Your Xirrus capture looks good, no issue there, however, I see that in your wireless connection you're using Public DNS, why not change the DNS'es to auto same as your LAN DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1. You'll have to click on Obtain DNS address automatically....Please follow this Tutorial.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...cp-ip-settings

Also, it's best to use WPA2 with AES encryption for a better secured network, you're currently using WEP.

Hello My PC running Windows XP has a wifi connection Wireless Network Connection in Control Panel to my wireless router and an ethernet connection Local Area Connection in Control Panel to an access point I am trying to use the access point and ethernet issues wifi Simultaneous to extend the range of my home wifi signal If I disable the ethernet connection then my PC can connect to the internet fine via the wifi signal Also if Simultaneous wifi and ethernet issues I then enable the ethernet connection and give my PC an automatically-allocated dynamic IP address on this connection Simultaneous wifi and ethernet issues the internet is again fine via the wifi signal However my access point manual requires me to assign a static IP address to my PC on the ethernet connection If I do this I now cannot connect to the internet via the wifi signal This suggests perhaps that my PC is now trying to use the ethernet connection to access the internet So my first question is how does my PC know whether to use the wifi connection or the ethernet connection to connect to the internet Furthermore both my wireless router and my access point have the same static IP address assigned to them by the manufacturers If both my wifi and ethernet connections are enabled and I try to connect to this IP address it always connects to the wireless router wifi - and never the access point ethernet So my second question is how can I connect to my access point if it has the same IP address as the wireless router Thanks Ed nbsp

A:Simultaneous wifi and ethernet issues

You will need to change either the access point or router.
I would suggest changing the access point if possible.
Having the same IP will cause conflicts.
Change the IP and make sure that DHCP is disabled.
You only want one of them assigning IP's to the network.
You may need to disconnect the router temporarily and connect
the access point directly to the computer until it is configured.
Then move everything back.

I consider myself generally pretty knowledgeable about computers in general but these issues have me stumped.

The first problem with my laptop (HP Pavilion DV6, Windows 7) Is that the physical wireless adapter button is broken. In the off position. My first question is, is there any way to turn it back on without the button?

My second problem is that, because I have no wireless internet, I attempted to use an internet cable to plug into the wall internet at home and at school. Guess what, total failure. It says it is connected locally, but no internet connection. I tested the cable on other comps, it is good. The wall internet works fine on other computers. Obviously the wireless internet isn't interfering because its stuck on disabled. What whats the problem??

A:Issue with Ethernet connection and WiFi

This might work to turn on the wireless.

Open Network and Sharing Center
In the left pane click Manage Network Connections.
Right Click your Wireless Connection to pull up the Options box.
Should show "Enable" at the top. Click.
What does an IPCONFIG /ALL show for the wired connection?

From a JohnWill post.
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have spent the last days trying to get my WiFi to connect Connection Ethernet not through Internet but WiFi to the Internet and am ready to throw the computer and all its additional equipment out of the window Amongst a collection of other laptops and a desktop running different systems - Windows XP Vista Windows and Windows - I have an old Acer Aspire running Windows XP Pro SP I use it mainly for midi file work and as a host for Visual Studio which I keep for maintenance of some programs written many years ago but still in use by some of my friends and for which I require frequent searches on the Internet Just recently for no apparent reason the WiFi on this laptop suddenly stopped working I have been using an Edimax EW- Usg wireless adapter Internet Connection through Ethernet but not WiFi which has never given any trouble in the past to connect with my home network through a router modem supplied by my ISP Internet Connection through Ethernet but not WiFi Since every other computer iPhone iPad and Kindle connects to the same network and works perfectly I have to assume that there is no problem with that router Also the problem laptop connects perfectly via the ethernet cable It just won t work on WiFi alone I have checked my wireless connections setup including TCP IP and can find no problem devices in Device manager I have searched for solutions on the internet and tried everything I can find - I have scanned my hard disk with Panda Antivirus have downloaded and run MalwareBytes I have tried changing the router channel I have tried setting the ipconfig values Nothing makes any difference When I attach the wireless adapter there is usually a message telling me the connection has quot limited or no internet access quot At this point ipconfig all shows the default values for the configuration If I try repairing the connection I am told that the process cannot continue for one reason or another though on occasion it connects when I close the message box However the adapter still shows quot acquiring IP Address quot and hangs there Here ipconfig all shows the correct configuration In both situations the only ipaddress I can ping is the host PC - the problem one Every other IP whether in numerical form such as Internet Connection through Ethernet but not WiFi the router or alphabetical form such as google com returns either a quot timeout quot or a quot cannot find quot message and of course I cannot connect to the internet I have tried clearing the ipconfig I ve forgotten the command and followed it with ipconfig renew but that won t work I have repaired winsock using Microsoft s instructions and I have become quot war-weary quot trying to make sense of the whole thing I am trying not to have to re-install Windows XP and the associated updating of all programs so as a last resort I tried probably unsuccessfully to uninstall Edimax In the end after using Add and Remove to clear as much as possible I just deleted the complete folder from Program Files Then I installed the software for an old Belkin Wireless USB Adapter which I had lying around and tried it The outcome was exactly the same The Belkin software has one advantage however - it allows the user to opt to control the adapter through Windows though I still could not make it work I just don t know enough to solve this one Any ideas anyone BarrieC St ckM n nbsp

When I restart my computer I will have internet for 4-5 minutes in Chrome or IE then it's gone. I must restart computer to connect again.  It does the same thing whether connected with ethernet or wifi. I also tried it at multiple locations also to rule out it being the internet at home and office.   This started when it did an update a couple days ago.  I have a few days of warranty left and would like to diagnose asap in case it needs to be shipped in for repairs.  Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.

Did you connect a single cable between the two computer?
e.g. one end of the cable connects to one computer
the other end of that same cable connects to the other computer

Good morning,

Last night I had to do a clean install of Windows 10 Home because of some corrupted files. While in the process of setting up I selected to connect to the Internet with my 'Wifi' connection. Prior to reinstalling Win 10 I had always used my 'Ethernet' connection

My Ethernet is still wired but I can't figure out how to enable that and disable my 'wireless' connection?

Any easy to understand directions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

I tried using an ethernet cable directly into the modem, no luck
I called my isp and they came out and gave me a new modem.
No luck
I updated the driver, no luck
I went back to a restore point, no luck
I restored to factory, no luck
Unplugged the modem/reset the modem, no luck

I don't know what else to do. I have college classes starting next week and have to have a reliable connection.

Someone please help me

I recently purchased a Nintendo WiFi connector so i could take my DS on-line. It it set up and running on my pc after running the setup disk but it is now conflicting with my XBOX360 connected to my PC through an Ethernet cable.

When testing my connection my xbox is unable to establish an IP Address (DHCP error). Assigning IP addresses to the xbox or wifi does not appear to work, and the WiFi is not happy about a bridged connection with it and the XBOX .

From what i can see DHCP is not on for my XBOX lan connection.

How would i get both the WiFi and Xbox to connect to my pc

A:my laptop doesnt get wifi connection from my router, only thru ethernet

Hi Jhaenine,

The problem seems to be with the wireless computer only. Because the other wireless device shows connected to the wireless network. To isolate this issue, please follow the steps given below:

1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks (on the left hand side of the page).
2. Remove all the preferred wireless networks if any listed on the page.
3. Click on Connect to a network > select your wireless network and click connect.
4. Type in the proper wireless security keys if prompted, that would show successfully connected to the wireless network.
5. Try going online and that should work. If the problem persists, please follow the steps given below:

1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections (on the left hand side of the page) > Right click on Wireless Network Connection > Properties > Highlight Internet Protoco Version 4 (TCP/IPV4) > Properties.
2. Select "use the following ip address" > type in the ip address in the range of 192.168.2.xxx (Where x refers to 2 to 254) > Subnet mask will be automatically 255.255.255.0 and type in the default gateway as 192.168.2.1
3. Select "use the following DNS" > type in 4.2.2.1 in the preferred and 4.2.2.2 in the alternate DNS and click ok and ok.

That must work.

Thank you.

again i will tell you to do the same thing i tell others in same situation. In addition to the driver downloads; try power cycling the modem and router. Unplug the power to both the modem and router and wait about a minute or so; then plug the modem back in first and let that fully boot; then plug the router back in and let that fully boot. Post back if that does not solve the issue; or mark this thread solved if it has.

Hi, I've just purchase a Lenovo Y700. I'd prefer to connect via ethernet to the business centre lan than via wifi. Unfortunately, when I switch the Y700 on, the ethernet connection lights flash for a few seconds, then a small red light below and to the left of the ethernet connector starts flashing and I seem to get forced over to wifi. If I go into network settings and disable the wifi, I still can't get the system to recognise the ethernet cable's plugged in. I've tested the cable and the lan socket on another PC. Both work. What do I need to do to fix this?

However, when I am connected with a wired cable, I see the network name as 'MikroTik-BCEDB'. Network on my Lenovo Yoga running W8.1 works fine over both wireless and Ethernet (USB dongle).

I have an iMac initiating a Remote Desktop connection to the Yoga via a direct Ethernet cable between the devices. Everything works fine on the W8.1 device except the WiFi can no longer connect to any access points and thus the Yoga has no Internet/network access--it just fails immediately when I select an access point for connection.

I do see an Event ID 8000 from NETwNe64 around the time of this failure; not sure if it's the same cause.

If I log back into the Yoga (and thus break the Remote Desktop Ethernet connection and take over that session), wireless works perfectly again. Thus it is clear that WiFi is only down when the device is accessed via RDP over Ethernet.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot?

A:WiFi fails on W8.1 with Ethernet Remote Desktop Connection

Try something for me, when you launch your RDP session go back into your wireless and see if it will prompt you for a security key.

A:Losing internet connection going from LAN cable to wifi, Ethernet adapter uninstalls

Hi there,

at first check out those possibilities:
When you open your network connections and go to the properties of your Lan-Connection (Cable) uncheck the box in which is says that you should be warned if this connection has low connectivity. Do that also at your wifi connection.

After that deactivate your Cable connection if you try to connect via Wifi.

I've been using Ethernet the past several days on my computer since my internet connection is very slow. Beyond this, my Wi-Fi is still connected and working. The other day, my Ethernet connection stopped working even though the network was still working fine (via Wi-Fi). Now my Ethernet port on my laptop constantly shows one dim orange light and one dim white light. When I plug in a cable there is no change. Is this a software issue? I can't even find anything on my computer that indicates the Ethernet connection is recognized.

Is there a driver for Ethernet? I always thought this was built into Windows.
Second, why would my computer be recognizing Ethernet one moment, and the next moment act like I don't even have an Ethernet port?
Could this be an issue of the network card going out? If so, why are the lights on the port there?

A:Ethernet connection issues

Sounds like a connector issue, but could be the board... try changing wire, remove the NIC in the device manager and reboot the machine to let Windows re-install the driver for the Network card or get the one from your OEM model page on the net...

Is your wireless working?  I had the same thing happen to me regarding ethernet, I thought hardware, took it to my local business-oriented computer store.  Something closed down the ethernet card alright, they ran some anti-malware, anti-bloatware, etc. -- got desktop back w/hard-wire & wireless intact.  Actually, I added wireless right on the spot, now, if one goes down, the other probably will stay running.  Be forewarned, if you run Combofix, JRT, RKill, and other things of that nature -- there may be a price in other areas of functionality.  Finally, I simply rolled back to a month-old C-partition backup via Acronis True Image -- and everything was working fine.

My wifi signal is fine, but I've been getting a yellow ( "!" ) error msg over the wifi icon and losing connection every 5 minutes or so. Some quick background....... (Recently upgraded my dsl speed from ISP provider. Same modem and wifi router, but I did reset them a couple of weeks ago, but the wifi disconnecting just recently started.)

Anyway, just did a diagnosis, and it mentioned "DNS error".

The only thing I can figure is that I had at one point a couple weeks ago connected my ethernet cable to the laptop when having issues with resetting the modem. So under Control panel-network connections-change adapter settings, I disabled "local area connection" and the "wireless network connections 2 and 3" (whatever those are?).

Oddly, for the last 30 minutes hasn't been cutting out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recently purchased the Dell XPS 14z and it has been working fine, however when I take it out to work (where there's no wifi connections) a red 'x' now appears on the wifi icon in the task tray. Usually it just shows an orange star and is essentially 'pending' connections.

When I try and use my BlackBerry Bold 9900 to connect using the mobile internet it says that it can't connect as the wifi radio may be off? This hasn't happened before and I've tried everything to troubleshoot it with no luck.

Thanks

A:Netwok connection issues. No LAN or WiFi

Have you tried running the sfc/scannow command?

A reset of Windows 8 might fix this problem but you would lose everything so back up before hand.

You might try turning off the machine and unplugging the power cord then bleed out all juice by holding down the start button for 10 seconds. Plug in and restart.

Bad driver or has an antenna that is not as sensitive as the old Windows 7 computer. It helps to post the manufacturer & model of the computer.

Also open up a Command Prompt and enter the following without the quotes. Post the results on here: "netsh wlan show all" .

Everything is setup OK - the problem is WIFI connectivity. Seems to be random connection, it will work OK for about 2-3 days, after reboots and sleep on and off. Then suddenly the W7 will claim not to be able to connect - it can see the router and connection, but everytime you hit "connect" it just returns with " unable to connect". Tried rebooting, running troubleshooter, removing connection and adding again, rebooting router(!) - but none work. I have Ubuntu installed on laptop as well - which connects everytime, even when W7 is claiming not to be able to, so I summise that the "network end of things" is OK, but W7 has decided to stop connecting. Very frustrating.
This also happened with a previous WIFI module installed, exactly the same problem, so it must be W7 issue. I have 2 Win XP, 1 Vista Ultimate laptop WIFI and 1 linux box all using the same router - no problems, even when my Dell is unable to connect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm very close to going back to Vista, and giving up on W7. Which is a shame as W7 is very good otherwise.

Hi and welcome to sevenforums

I have a dell inspirion myself and the same problem happens to me. In my case it was a corrupt dell 1390 driver and the router I used (linksys). First thing I had to do was to kill IP-6 support. that gave me alot more stability. replacing the driver also helped. ifuond that the router was losing dns support because the firmware needed to be updated.

Hope this helps

I've run into a really annoying issue with my Toshiba laptop running Windows It uses the Realtek E wireless NIC I recently in January ditched my WRT N router for a Netgear WNDR The WRT N got hit by a surge in December and started losing its settings every few days and needing to be reconfigured from scratch every few days I'd had it for two years and never been satisfied with range or speed Netgear worked fine at first I tested it with my desktop machine which is connected wirelessly and runs Windows and with my laptop which also runs Windows and connects wirelessly A few weeks ago the issues 7 connection WiFi laptop Windows laptop started having weird problems Intermittently every - seconds a little yellow exclamation mark would appear over the bars showing internet strength and the laptop wouldn't Windows 7 laptop WiFi connection issues be able to access anything Then the exclamation mark would go away and I'd be able to use it then seconds later it would be back and I'd lose connectivity again When it's working it's slow it's dropped from getting speeds of about Mbps for file transfer to about Kbps Further consistently since the problem started occurring my wife has run into an issue where if she tries logging into Facebook the laptop will just sit there and read and read and Windows 7 laptop WiFi connection issues read but never get in We can walk away come back minutes later and Windows 7 laptop WiFi connection issues the little icon for IE is still spinning telling us it's still trying to load the page Same thing with logging into Toys R Us ca Oftentimes if we try going to those sites the wireless connection will drop The exclamation point appears and refuses to go away and if we disconnect and reconnect it won't reconnect Only way to connect is to reboot then the problem just starts happening all over again I took a look and logged into my own profile on the laptop and the problem also occurred there So I tried installing Windows SP Same problem I then upgraded the firmware for the router to the latest Same problem So I did a Windows Restore and then tried installing SP all over again Problem persists I tested from my desktop machine which is connected wirelessly to the router Facebook Toys R Us and everything else load perfectly Never disconnects So I unboxed an old laptop we were throwing out that still has a wireless G card on Windows XP and we tried it and it connects perfectly to the router Never disconnects and accesses Facebook and Toys R Us fine Speeds are also fine I tried disabling the wireless NIC on the laptop and connecting the laptop to the router via LAN cable Works fine Then unplugged turned wireless on again and problem came back At that point I thought maybe it was an indicator the wireless NIC on the laptop was faulty going For a last check I brought the laptop with me to the local Starbucks and connected to the Bell Hotspot Works fine Facebook and Toys R Us work perfectly Doesn't disconnect Speeds are fine Bring the laptop home minutes later disconnection problems start up again and can't get onto Facebook or Toys R Us Any ideas as to what could be going on here It's almost like for the first days I had the new router everything worked perfectly After about days all of a sudden that one specific laptop just doesn't want to quot play nice quot Other computers work fine with that router That laptop works fine with other routers It just seems to not like my router all of a sudden Pleb

Hello Everyone I am new here and have never really anniversary windows 10 Wifi connection update after issues posted on a help forum before But I am having crippling connection issues and have not found any threads that really represent my specific problem I have an ASUS laptop and have been running windows pretty much since it was available without any sort of network problems However since the large anniversary update my wifi connectivity seems to be somehow weakened My typical networks I use at home and at work seem to be fine It's now when trying to connect to hotel airport or coffee shop networks that seem to give me trouble Wifi connection issues after windows 10 anniversary update I travel Wifi connection issues after windows 10 anniversary update a lot and this is a big deal for me For example at the hotel I am currently staying at my iPhone which I am posting this with and Samsung tablet are able to detect the hotel wifi and connect without any problems But my laptop at times cannot even find the network If I walk around the room with the laptop sometimes I can pick it up briefly I can connect momentarily only to be dropped immediately when trying to access a website While my iPhone shows full bars the laptop will only ever show one or two Indicating that it is somehow weakened I have checked an have all the latest drivers My settings are set to obtainable ip automatically and so forth I am not sure if it's related but when I connect and open the network tray icon it shows one bar but the tray icon itself always shows full bars Very weird I have gone through this at every hotel I have stayed at since the update Talking to the hotel network techs they cannot help me as it seems to be related to my computer somehow Again this has only come up after the anniversary update Any troubleshooting points or advise would be greatly appreaciated I am here for the next week and will try anything Thanks

So basically - as the subject says -
Having a brand new Dell XPS 15 9550
with most recent Dell Wireless 1830 802.11ac drivers
cmd command "netsh wlan show drivers"
shows that current driver does not support hosted network,
meaning, that i am unable, for example, to share my ethernet internet connection Over wifi to other devices - i am unable to make my laptop a hotspot.
Which is ridiculous in 2016 and for a laptop of this level and is basically a prerequisite to be Windows 10 approved.
So my question is DELL, what the ***? When do we get normal drivers?
Anybody has the same issue - knows the workaround? Thanks.
I could not have expected that 2000$ laptop would not be able to do that. this is soul crushing.

I recently purchased an HP Pavillion Elite 441F computer. Upon starting it up, I discovered that although my wireless connection works perfectly, I cannot connect via an ethernet cable. I have tried multiple ethernet cables that I verified the connectivity of using my laptop. When I plug in an ethernet cable, the port shows a green light and an orange light below it. My computer recognizes that an ethernet cord has been plugged in, but shows the over the eternet box on the taskbar. All drivers are up-to-date.

Thoughts? I appreciate any help offered.

Hey so at my apartment complex all I have is wifi available, there seems to be a ethernet port on the wall downstairs but I dont think it works. I was thinking of getting a Wifi to Ethernet adapter but I do not know if that actually will make it so my connection is stable and doesnt get affected by people streaming etc. I notice that it says it would pick up wifi and then I could use my ethernet to connect it to my computer. I don't really understand how all this works. I would like some help figuring out what to do. I can always try that port. or is there something I can plug into that port that would give me a stable connection? I'm running out of ideas. Anything helps. Thanks!

A:Wireless works fine, Ethernet doesn't

Odds are that the NIC has failed.

Another low possibility (in addition to cable and router LAN port) are the PC's firewall or security suite misconfigured or corrupted.

Another thing to try: in Device Manager right click on the ethernet - Properties - Advanced tab - for the 'Speed & Duplex' property try different values beginning with '100 Mbps full duplex' and '10 Mbps full duplex.'

I have a P7H55 Asus Motherboard with the ethernet port and cable working fine individually. However, when i connect them together, the ethernet light on the router remains stable as if connected but still the desktop shows not connected. This time i have installed the drivers which came from the motherboard manufacturer and are the latest. In the Network and Sharing Center, the icon is enabled. It does not show cross sign. Hi I was looking around for an active PC forum for some help and this Wi-Fi Random dropouts, fine Ethernet working one seems to have a few users so hopefully I can get this resolved I'll try and keep everything quick Basically the Wi-Fi connection loses connection for a fraction of a second and breaks what it is doing i e downloading a file gt mb or so the download begins fast and after a few mb stops until it eventually fails Video streaming will buffer a bit Random Wi-Fi dropouts, Ethernet working fine and then stop if I let the video get to the end it just sits there pretending to load and I need to move the slider back a few seconds to make it buffer again Speed tests won't complete they start off fast and then stop the speed just goes down slowly until the test gives an error Google instant search is broken so I had to disable that That's basically the idea general web browsing is fine because I don't need to receive lots of continuous data it's the above things that give problems This is only happening on Wi-Fi and only on my laptop If I plug into Ethernet and try a speed test it completes with no problems seconds later on Wi-Fi and it gives an error I Random Wi-Fi dropouts, Ethernet working fine can also complete them through my phone without any problems so it's something to do with the Random Wi-Fi dropouts, Ethernet working fine laptop I did a full Windows reset and let Microsoft automatically get drivers problem was still there I downloaded the official driver from the Toshiba website and installed that problem was still there I scoured the internet for drivers and found a more updated one than the previous two on some French site problem is still there I should add though that this is not a constant thing but it feels like around of the time I have these issues I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to computers but I'm not very good when it comes to network configurations and the like I hope somebody can help me shed some light on this thank you Toshiba Satellite L - PSKDLA- C R Windows x Qualcomm Atheros AR WB-EG - Driver Version TP-Link AC - Archer D

Hi there, thanks in advance.

I've had this computer a few months and so far it works great. Then today I turn it on and try to go on the internet and it says I have no connection. Tried plugging and unplugging the cable, wiggled it around, tried to connect it with a different cable and I still have no internet. The cable is in, it tells me there is a local area connection and all, but when I go to properties there is not IP, etc etc.

I have it on a network, if that helps, and none of the others have this problems. The computer prints to a shared printer attached to another computer on my network, so I tried to print something to see if that was still working, but it says it can't due to an unknown error.

Is there a fix for this?

A:Computer seems fine, but the ethernet input doesn't work?

You might try cycling the modem and router.
Unplug the power from the back of the router and modem for 10 seconds.
Plug the router back in and let it boot up,then do the same with the modem.

Since I upgraded to Windows 10 Home from Windows 7, I've noticed that from a cold boot - e.g. PC has been turned off for several hours, the Ethernet network icon has the red X through it and I dont get any internet/network access.

It reports that the cable is unplugged. It definitely is plugged in, it goes straight into a Netgear Powerline homeplug.

If I then reboot, it connects straight away no problem at all.

I havent installed the motherboards LAN drivers, but thought it might be something else before I tried that?

Recently I performed a reinstallation of windows on my laptop. Normally I had no problems with the wireless, but after the reinstallation my laptop refuses to acknowledge that there are wireless networks. When I'm not connected to the internet, it asks to connect using a wire connection only.

I have a Dell Inspiron iM101z running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I downloaded all the drivers for what the Dell website told me my laptop model was, a Dell Inspiron 1121. Attached is a picture showing the oddities of my problem. The icon on the taskbar shows that I have to connect with an ethernet cord; no wireless icon is shown.

If I try to unplug the ethernet cable and connect to the internet, I only get the option to do a broadband connection. Also, once I unplug the cable, I get "no connections available."

Most likely this is still a driver problem.

A:WIFI fine but no internet

Some thoughts ...

Obviously not the wireless circuit, same the choice of browser. Have you tried:

1. pinging a known good Web site from the command prompt? (i.e. Google). DNS may be an issue, suggest you proceed to the next steps:
2. Reinstalling the wireless driver (works for me most of the time).
3. Resetting the TCP/IP stack: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
4. Possibly wireless card issue. Under warranty?

Good luck.

Hi I have a home-built PC running Windows Pro bit with an ASUS Z -Deluxe motherboard I've had it working at my but happening keeps Wifi - internet no fine, home for over a year but recently moved it into an office at a completely different location running Wifi fine, but no internet - keeps happening fibre broadband by BT British Telecom For the first few months everything was fine apart from the odd internet disconnect and then reconnect In the last week or two I'm now frequently getting the wifi and internet dropping out and the wifi reconnects straight away but then it either goes to No Internet or it says it's connected but when I try to actually do something like load a webpage it hangs forever and eventually goes to No Internet When this happens my Android phone on the same wifi connection reconnects without problems I have followed the cmd ipconfig resetting procedures listed in this article and most times this has worked but it keeps happening and I don't know what the problem is and how to stop it happening It's getting really annoying now As far as I know my Windows is up to date and I have also tried turning AVG firewall off and it doesn't help I haven't yet tried doing anything with the Network Adapter drivers Could that be the issue Thanks Mark

Hi
How do I begin to troubleshoot my WiFi connection please? I'm experiencing regular dropouts while simply surfing the net. I'm not downloading anything and my broadband connection is solid. I'm having to disconnect and reconnect the WiFi via the windows software in order to re-establish a connection.

Any help appreciated.

A:WiFi dropouts - broadband fine

How does the system work while connected to Internet via Ethernet?  Any problems then?

Check manufacturer's support site for a wifi driver update.

Be sure that there is as little as possible interference between the device and the router to assure a strong wifi signal.

Trying to figure out where to start with this one.

I'm in Window 8 on a Toshiba L855-S5112 Satellite laptop. It's an inexpensive laptop, which was most likely my first mistake.

But... My wireless sees nothing, and when I check the device manager for the network adapter info, it's enabled and it reports that it's working fine. the wifi switch is definitely set to on.

With "show hidden devices" turned on, this is what I see for network adaptors:

So... anyone have any leads for me? Direction? I'd appreciate any help at all. Thanks.

Tom

Hello, i currently have a dualboot running between windows 7 x64 and ubuntu 13.04 x64.
Lately ive noticed that my internet is extremely slow when using windows 7, however if i boot into ubuntu its fine.
Ive tried running speed tests as well. Windows is sometimes having trouble getting even 1mbps! meanwhile ubuntu can easily get around 30mbps (what my internet should be). In windows it will also sometimes completely disconnect from my network, and then reconnect.

Its getting really frustrating, especially since i need to use windows as my primary os. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Very slow wifi on windows 7, but fine on ubuntu ?!

Hello,

Your router has a wireless mode setting that you may fiddle. The wireless mode is defaulted to a mixed mode and you may change this to N (if your router supports this mode), G/N, B/G. Same as you Wi-Fi adapter, you fiddle on the setting if it's available. Make sure to run Speedtest when you change the mode until you are satisfied.

For disconnection issue, you might want to check for any interference, install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector Tool from CNET.

Have you also updated the Windows 7 driver to the latest?

Hi,

I just got a new Asus Transformer Laptop (Windows 8.1) and am having trouble with it even locating my wifi.

I can see other's that are in my area but not mine. My partner's Asus laptop can find it fine with no issues. There is no Ethernet cable point on the laptop either to try that. I have reset the computer, turned wifi on/off, restored that modem (netgear) back to factory settings to no avail. I am currently using my mobile phone as a personal hotspot and that recognised it quickly. I don't know why my laptop would need to do any updates given that I got it yesterday but it that a possibility??

I am not computer savvy in ANY way to please use simple terms.

It's so upsetting getting a new laptop and not being able to use it.

Please help!

Catherine.

A:New Asus Transformer will not recognise my wifi, others are fine

Probably your new laptop is trying to use only one or a limited number of wifi channels', whereas the netgear is using yet another. Try this http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1848693/laptop-detect-home-wireless-netwrok.html

Hi guys,

I'm having bit of an odd problem - i've recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate and for the most part finding it a great upgrade.

I've recently noticed that while i am connected and have internet access - with seemingly no issues, Windows is reporting No Signal, in the bottom right the strength indicator bars are gray. (i dont think it was like this when i first installed).

I downloaded a wifi signal strength desktop gadget and that reports 0%.

Is this some sort of bug or should i be worried?

I seem to have a pretty stable connection according to pingtest.net - gets a grade A, ping average 20 ish and jitter around 5...

It's just kind of annoying me a little

Cheers
Paul

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If your only email accounts are free (Hotmail, gmail, etc.) try this direct link. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10. When I am at work the wifi connection works perfectly fine. However when I go home the wifi is extremely spotty. It will work and then randomly I will have trouble opening a webpage or checking my email. It will say my network connection is unavailable. The strange thing is my wife's wifi on her laptop will work perfectly fine even when mine is not. Is there a setting on my laptop that is getting messed up as I move between networks? Thanks for the help.

A:Wifi is fine at work but spotty at home on just my laptop

it maybe the signal strength
lets have a look at the signal at home
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

http://go.pardot.com/l/66982/2015-01-26/2361i
enter you details
Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )

There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

Alternative links - Use the links below
Do NOT use any of the download managers offered - Cnet , just use the direct link below - and click on the download button
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Network-Monitoring/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-Inspector.shtml
http://download.cnet.com/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-Inspector/3000-18508_4-75758254.html
Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here
http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/xirruswifiinspectorguide1-2-0

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

To post a screen shot of the active window.

Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Vista or Windows 7
you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-use-the-windows-snipping-tool/

Windows 8 & 10
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool
(From the Windows 8 Start Screen, or windows 10 Search, type "snip" and press enter)
(From windows 10 - All Apps>Windows Accessories>Snipping Tool
>Press the Esc. key.
>go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button
>Press Ctrl+PrntScr button to use Snipping Tool

Hello,

We have a TP-LINK router and adapter. We have a PC connected via cable to the net, which has the router connect to it. We can connect get fine speed by all laptops, mobiles. We have this other pc in the room next to the routers room.
The signal is very weak, 1-2 levels, but the pc adapter can be 7-8meters max from the router.
Also the speed, while other pcs get 25mbs, this one 3-6. Three days ago it had 25mbs, cuz we changed channel and its the same now. Weird...

Can something be interrupting the signal or what can be the problem? Im really out of ideas, i will be really thankful for all who can help.

Any other info you need?
The internet is from UPC 50mbs.

Hey,
My desktop is connected to my router via cable. And it randomly gets disconnected from time to time. I've tried re-installing drivers. I get the red X on my network icon in the taskbar, which usually happens when a cable is unplugged. I fixes it self after a minute or 2, its never longer than 1 minute, usually 10-15 seconds, and it happens ever 10-15 minutes.

My wifi works fine, and I have a vonage box connected to my main router which works fine too. It's just my desktop. I've tried different ports, same problem.

I'm heading home in a few hours and I've picked up a new 5 meter cable to check with.

What else could be the problem if the new cable doesn't fix it.

My network adapter is the on baord one on the Asus Maximus Formula.

Thanks.

A:Network randomly disconnecting. Wifi works fine.

Seems to be something wrong within the cable or could be the network card within your pc? Did you try the cable on any other pc or that?

Hi, recently the wifi on my laptop has been extremely slow and disconnects quite often (still shows as connected but says no internet) however the same wifi on my phone experiences no such issues. I was considering reinstalling windows to see if that fixes it but I'd rather avoid having to do that.
My wifi package is 100mb/s but on my laptop it ranges from a few mb to 20 or so if I'm lucky, is there any way to fix this without reinstalling windows & would that even solve the issue?
Thanks
