Dell Vista on another motherboard?

Q: Dell Vista on another motherboard?

Hi all,
Someone mentioned that a Dell Vista reinstalltion might not work on a new motherboard, the DVD itself says that its for installation on Dell PCs only but do you think the DVD will actually block the installation if it detects another motherboard? Or do you think that it would just not activate maybe?
If so, im aware that i would have to buy a full version of Windows 7 and the price seems to vary from one seller to another, can anyone recommend the cheapest place to buy it?

Actually to make the matter more complicated here is the scenario , I currently have Vista installed on the Dell machine but i intend to move the hard drive to the new motherboard with Vista on it. Now many people say that Vista should automatically work with the new motherboard if i repair so in which case i wouldnt be doing a completly new install. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Dell Vista on another motherboard?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been looking for the front panel pin layout on the Dell Dual Xeon Motherboard with Dell P/N: 0WN7Y6 (it is a # zero, W, N, #7, Y, #6).
The front panel connector is 27-pin...28 spots with one pin left blank. The pin layout isn't included in the manual and I'm trying to boot two of these motherboards without the 27-pin connector. I just need to know which pins need to be jumpered in order to test for boot to BIOS.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Dell doesn't make the front panel connector pin-outs public. So unless you map them yourself or somebody else has done it...

Okay, so as the topic title implies, for the life of me, I cannot figure out which motherboard model I'm supposed to get for this Dell Inspiron 1300 here. Only info I have is that it has the Centrino sticker on the palm rest of the case, and I also have the service tag, but that doesn't seem to give me much information from what I've found.

I've taken the motherboard out of the thing and looked it over, but no luck, as I don't see the model number on it.

Will someone please tell me how I'm supposed to figure out the motherboard model number so I can get a new one?

Would Dell Factory restore DVDS work after Dell replaced the motherboard? I haven't tried it because I have the dell re-installation disk, just wondered if I ever need to get rid of this computer. I am planning on keeping the computer as long as possible. Just for information no activation was required. I didn't have to use the OEM key on the back of the computer.

A:Would Dell Factory restore work after Dell replaced the motherboard?

With dell's the key is intergrated with the os. If they replaced with same motherboard then I do not see why it wouldn't.

I bought my Dell Vostro 3800 ST almost 2 years ago, sadly I didn't really do my research before I bought it, and it turns out, card that came with it wasn't really great for gaming and it's nearing the end of it's life.
So I'm planning to buy proper card, but my tower is waaay to slim to fit in it comfortably.
So my question is, will I be able to take my motherboard to another, non-Dell case? If so, what type of case would be good? I did try to find online, what type of motherboard it is, but if there's an answer to that question, I can't find or understand it.
I'd be grateful for any help provided :)

A:Will my motherboard from Dell Vostro 3800 ST fit into non-Dell case?

It's more or less a micro-ATX board so it will likely fit a standard case.  That said, wiring the power switch, hard drive LEDs, etc. will be difficult - they're not standard and it may be a lot of trial and error to make work.

The reason I am considering this is to get DDR3 Ram so as to have a faster computer.
My 420 is DDR2 and the 430 is DDR3

...takes a normal ATX power connector? I know the PSU's in Dell computers stopped being exclusive to Dell some time after 2000, but I need to make sure before I go for a high power PSU, which I need for multiple drives and cards. I could call Dell but I'd just as soon find out without waiting on hold. I want to buy a high end ATX PSU rather than a mid level overpriced Dell PSU.

I'm pretty sure my MoBo was manufactured after 2001. Any way to tell for sure that it is standrad ATX just by looking at it or the connectors or the stock Dell PSU?

This is a Dimension 2400 that I bought new in 2002.

Thanks much!

Hello,
My 2710 went dark after switching SATA MODE in BIOS.  I tried every tip listed here but still can't get to the BIOS, I think my mobo is bricked so, I need to find a reasonably priced replacement.  Dell wants $550, any other alternative around for around $200?
Thanks.

A:Need Dell One XPS 2710 Motherboard

Power supply is good. Problem was as suspected in the BIOS. I managed to flash it with a working one, thanks to the help of a friend with good soldering skills. Indeed the holes i was talking about in my last post are made for accessing the bios chip without extracting it. The process wasn't easy but we did it!! So now the computer is back to life!! :DD Tat was the good news. The bad news is that it looks like the windows 8 key was embedded in the old rom file (of that file I made a backup for safety, but i cannot read it), so i cannot install my legally owned copy of windows because i cannot get the key. By asking help from DELL, the only answer i got was "you must consider yourself lucky, you managed to revive your computer. that's already a lot. So NO, we won't help you, you must buy yourself another copy of windows." . I had Windows 8 "customer" (whatever it means).
So, don't lose hope, except in DELL. ;)

If you look up the model # on Dell's support site they usually have a service manual that shows how to remove the components. Other than the screws there's could be clips somewhere that are holding it on.

Hi all,

I've done a bit of searching on the forums, none of which specifically answered my questions but I apologise if i'm asking something which has been asked before.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I bought a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop PC with the hope of gutting it and upgrading everything over a period of time but, without doing research beforehand, I have now come to realise that you can't just replace the current Dell motherboard with any old motherboard, or so it seems.

From what I've seen on this forum and other websites, I think it's a Micro ATX motherboard inside and from what I've heard you can't replace it with a 'Non Dell' motherboard. Is this correct?

If it is, what is my best option? Just scrap the Dell pc and buy a new case?

Thanks,
Sean

The dim 2400 was a very low end computer and case. Ditch the case and Mobo, you may be able to use the other components but not worth the effort IMHO

A:Dell Motherboard e210882

E210882 is not a model number, that is the UL file number.

Since you need to know what motherboard you have go here; http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

and download SIW Standalone. This is an executable that doesn't have to be installed on your machine. Just download it to the desktop and launch the application. After the application launches click on Motherboard in the left pane, and when the right hand side pane opens see what information it gives you for the board. Post the Motherboard Information. We may be able to figure out which board it is from the information provided.

If you want to delete SIW Standalone just right click on the desktop icon and delete it. You may want to keep it since it is handy for finding information for your machine.

Hi,

This is the versions... its the same!!!

But, for my surprise... the LCD connectors are different

It is possible to change the flat cable? in my research i need a flat cable model 0K2M54 and my original flat cable is 07JFX4. My LCD screen is 3D, may be i will lost this function but i dont care! I have the Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop, with the Intel 915GMS/910GML chipset (according to CPU-Z). It uses socket 479 and the stock FSB is 400Mhz. I want to upgrade the Celeron M 370 CPU to a more powerful CPU (eg. a Pentium M). I was wondering whether ANY socket 479 CPU will work with this motherboard or only Pentium M and Celeron M? There are Intel Celeron M, Pentium M, Core Solo, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo processors (older model "Merom") that use the 479 socket.

Will any of these socket 479 CPUs work with this motherboard?

Also a lot (if not all) of the current socket 479 CPUs have a rated FSB of 667Mhz (even the Pentium M (which would work on this motherboard for sure). If I was to install a Pentium M with FSB667Mhz would it run at 667Mhz FSB or would it be underclocked to 400Mhz FSB?

Thanks.

hi guys,
i'm wondering if dell's motherboard could affect ati 4850 in-game performance(low fps on any settings and serious lags after 30 minutes of gameplay)?
i've made some sort of investigation and it seems that:1)after video drivers update there's still issue with ingame performance(fps mainly).it doens't matter what settings i play,it's still there;2)i've compared my gaming system with some other more or less similar ones which are owned by my bro and friend.they could play any 09' game on max settings with high fps.their systems are custom built ones;3)i've read through different tech forums and it seems that some xps owners are not happy with their systems,at least with motherboards.

I have a Dell e6430 (not ATG) laptop. I may in the need of a motherboard and am searching for possibilities. It seems there are a few variances which may all work but I am not sure of the compatibility.
Does anyone know FOR SURE which of the different motherboards will work in my e6430.
My specs:
Dell latitude e6430installed motherboard QAL80 u01
installed cpu intel i5 3320m 2.6 ghz
service tags 1s21cw1
bios A18
8GB ddr3 1333 mhz
no fingerprint reader
high graphics or bluetooth is not important

A:Dell e6430 motherboard compatibility?

All the boards with Intel video will interchange -- the ones with nVidia will require a new heatsink assembly.  Since yours looks like an integrated board, any of the E6430 boards should work to replace it:

I have a friend at work who asked me to setup his dell computer so his
24 year old son couldn't get into his computer to surf porn while he was at work. I wiped his system and set up passwords on his xp but his son apparently was more computer savy than I expected and has turned the tables, now you power up it goes to a screen requesting a system password and won't let you into the bios. I have tried pulling the cmos
battery out but still no joy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi guys, I just bought a dell vostro 400MT with an E4600 processor and I want to upgrade it to a Q9450 or Q9300 maybe at the end of the year, when the next round of price cuts hit. Does anyone know if the mobo is compatible with the quad cores? Thanks in advance.

A:Is Dell motherboard compatible with Q9450?

I would say, yes. I downloaded the Dell Vostro manual from here: Dell and went to the Intel website to check the quad core processors here: Intel

Compare for yourself and I think you'll come the same conclusion.

I m looking for some detailed specs for a Dell Dimension motherboard my friend s system Specifically the system for no apparent reason could not be powered on The power supply checks out pretty decent voltages are within specs So I figure either the power switch or motherboard is bad Most of the generic instructions available for jumping motherboards refer to a two-pin momentary switch connection labeled PWR or PWR BTN The problem is on this board there s Dell Motherboard to How Dim Jump 8400 a quot front-panel connector quot with around or so pins and a flat cable going to the front panel lights power switch etc The power switch itself is fairly inaccessible and I don t see any instructions provided showing how to remove it The cable can be easily removed from the motherboard Where can I find out which of the pins How to Jump Dell Dim 8400 Motherboard are the correct ones for starting the power-on sequence Just my luck the Dell Support Forum website has been down the last few days Thank you for any ideas nbsp

So I have a Dell Optiplex 780 SFF Desktop and I've been wanting to upgrade the crummy Core 2 Duo it has in it, to a Core 2 Quad or do a LGA 771 to 775 mod on it, but I have no idea what the maximum CPU it could support would be. It's motherboard model is 03NVJ6 and a Q95/Q93 chip set and it supports DDR3 Memory, would I be able to put some form of LGA 775 or 771 quad core in it?

Greetings,
I have two 730x computers where the motherboard has gone bad.  They are both out of warranty.  I am looking to replace/upgrade one or both (instead of building one from scratch or having one built or buying premade).
I understand the 730x uses the ATX form so I am looking at something along the lines of a GIGABYTE GA-X99-UD4 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard.
First, will this work?  Second, any guidance and/or advise on proceeding would be greatly appreciated.  I haven't played around with building/upgrading computers in quite a few years.
Many thanks,

A:Dell 730x Replacement Motherboard

Its not ATX and its not standard and the control panel and other pinouts are not documented. So No it won't work.  The processor is not LGA 2011 either.
The P270J motherboard is not generic.

Dear Sir;

I am building a new computer, I am using a used Dell OptiPlex GX280 motherboard. And all the specifications I have found say to use a Pentium 4 processor 530 (3.0GHz, 1M, 800Mhz).

I found one on eBay and received it yesterday.

But the socket on the motherboard has more pin holes than the processor has pins. On the motherboard the socket is marked (Foxconn C-3598). If I plug in the CPU into the socket, there is extra holes along the side and the bottom.

Does (or will) this processor fit and work in this socket?

Dell use propriatary boards for their machines, that is they are built for Dell by a 3rd party company, why do you want to know,?

If your after drivers go here, you will need to enter your service tag or you can choose by model.

Hey guys, so I have what is probably an unorthodox situation going on. I had a Dell 3847 originally, but in order to install my new GPU (GTX 950), I had to buy a bigger case and PSU to put it all into. I have that system up and running, but for more expansions, I would like to upgrade my motherboard. How would I go about doing this. I'm sure it's possible somehow, but before I completed what I have now, I was told that the OS wouldn't be compatible in some way. I was also wondering how Chipset came into play with this. Thanks.
I am looking at getting something like this. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4955#ov

There is every reason to believe your motherboard might be fried.
But to know for sure, you need to remove everything from the board, then do a basic reinstall...
This is to make sure you haven't missed something.]
I would test with the old setup, original hard drive, original power supply.. and keep all the new stuff off it for now.

You are lucky. Legally you cannot use an OEM key with a different motherboard (which is the same as a different PC).

I currently have a dell E310 dimension w/ a 230 w power supply
i want to upgrade to a ATI Readon 9250 PCI video card which requires more power
I have a Thermaltake Purepower 420w power supply which has a 20 pin connector--the motherboard has a 24 pin socket. there is also a 4 pin plug from the power supply . will the computer work with the 20 pin connector or do i need all 24 connections? --is the 4 pin connector supposed to make up for the extra connections?

A:20 pin power supply to dell 24 pin motherboard

Should work fine with the 20 pin, but there is another spot on your board for the other 4pin

the power supply should have 2 cables, the 20pin(or 24pin) and another cable with 4pin, both of those go in differnet spots,

and from what i know it shouldnt be a problem with the 20pin going in the 24pin.

Wait for more people to reply i might be wrong

ok a family members computer was what she was told lightning killed the mother board we ordered a replacement i just installed it, it will now power (it didnt even do that before) but it is like a half power, The light on front stays solid amber. i can feel fan and hear running but its like it wont boot. Computer screen stays black... Any ideas??? Thank you kindly

A:Installed new motherboard on dell 4700 please help

If lightning killed the motherboard it probably also took out the power supply. A PSU can still work when it's fried but the output voltages could be wrong (which can fry an new motherboard). Who knows what other components have been fried as well. Your best bet is to replace the psu and take the system down to the bare necessities (CPU, ram , motherboard, video [if not integrated]) and add other components one at a time. if a component causes a problem it's bad. If the system will not even POST with just CPU, ram and motherboard one or more of those components is bad (you can try swapping these out if you have extra parts).

What luck.

I'm in the same boat with a different problem. All the USB ports on a 9150 died after some sporadic failures. Of course there are no PS2 ports. Couldn't even get into BIOS even after CMOS reset. Finally replaced the mobo with a new 9100 model. Apparently the chipset is different enough that as soon as Windows loads the USB driver, they all shut off again. At least I can get into bios. Linux live CDs and a win install disk works fine. I can't use the pathetic recovery partition with bad USB drivers and I can't repair install from retail Win XP disk without a retail key. Would like to do this legitimately.

My spare Dell OptiPlex 780 MiniTower has a Dell 0C27VV motherboard (see below thumbnail).

The top 2 SATA ports are blue and black.

The bottom 2 SATA ports are white and black.

The original hard drive is connected to the dark blue port.

The original disc drive is connected to the bottom white port.

I plan to install a second hard drive and run a different Windows version in each one.

I'm not sure if I need to connect it to the top or bottom black port.

---------------------------------------------------------

Can you also advise how to determine their number sequence?

I can't find anything that confirms which ports are SATA-0, SATA-1, SATA-2, SATA-3.

Thanks!

Well Dell motherboards are only designed to be put into Dell cases using Dell connectors, so heres probably the best information you will get. Theres a layout of the motherboard in the manual.

Hi guys,

I've come into acquisition of a Vostro 200 that may be decent enough to replace my current HTPC with. It's running the junky 1.6gHz Celeron processor that comes stock with this model, but I'm almost positive I can upgrade it to at least a Core 2 Duo. Can anybody confirm that? It seems a waste to have a newer computer as that go to waste when a simple processor upgrade can make it fairly competitive. I've looked everywhere and can't find the supported processor specs for this Dell CU409 board, but I did find a link from Dell with the recommended upgrades for the computer under my Service Tag.

Hi ASHOKKUMAR,
You should be able to upgrade the motherboard to a discrete one. In addition to the parts mentioned above, an upgraded 90W ac adapter might also be required if you are going to use a dual core CPU with your system or a 130W ac adapter if you are using a Quad core processor.
Part availability varies from region to region. You may have to get in touch with the local sales department. You may contact Sales at :1800-425-4026 / 080-2506-802
For more information on upgrading your system you may refer to the Service Manual : http://bit.ly/YvgnFe

well my first cpu system was a dell too. although it always ran pretty fun i dislike the "unmodular" prebuilt distributor policies..

recently i tried to download a driver for my dell p991 sony trinitron monitor (which has red color difficulties by the way.. and diagonal lines showing up)
from dell and noticed they cant be found anywhere.. i was lucky to find an uncommercial driver page (with registration though) with a monitor driver for all dell PXX series. thats what i call customer service. (ironical)

also i you ever happen to find yourself getting some parts out of a dell case which is screwed and un-openable, smashing it against walls.. and working it with a hammer and other tools.. you will b asking yourself if dell is cool or not.

have you tried entering your modell/order number (usually on a sticker somewhere on the case) on the dell super customer support site?

enjoy.

dont have any other idea in mind atm. sorry..

No, the Inspiron 580 only supports Intel socket LGA1156 processors, not AMD.
The Inspiron 570 supports AMD processors.

My Dell motherboard is SATA II.

Any suggestions for a motherboard that will upgrade the system to SATA III?
I would like to use the original fan/heatsink and DDR3 memory, to keep the cost down.

Will I be able to activate Win10 Pro, which was upgraded from the Dell OEM copy of windows?

A:Dell Inspiron One 2020 Motherboard Replacement

Shelquis,
You just need to sometimes be a little forceful if the cable is stuck. Maybe squeeze the sides of the cable connector when pulling up.
Here are some tools you may need as well.
Phillips screwdriver • Hex nut driver • Plastic scribe

hey guy, i got a dell studio 540 desktop, 6gb ram, 250hd and 500gb hdd,and core 2 quad 8mb cache (not sure)so the problem, the system wont power up, check the PSU unit by taking it out and running it using the jumper way green to black. it powered up nice and the checked the volts using a multi-meter, they were all perfect. the ram and processor are okay, checked them into another system.with all connected , the power led is always orange.so probably its the  motherboard,is this repairable ? Like DIY? because im from Pakistan, there are no such dell centers, and even im unable to find a motherboard for me.question 2, can any other model motherboard swapped in this casing, its not the mini thou,

Hi there,
My Dell Inspiron laptop had an issues the other day which might to get a blue screen of death and then crash. I since tried to turn the laptop back on however, it was getting 8 beeps and staying on a black screen. Sometime it would boot and login before the black screen would appear. Usually, 8 beeps would mean the display has gone however, after further testing and research i feel that the motherboard needs replacing. I am therefore looking to replace the motherboard however, I'm not sure which one to get. The part number for the one I have now is: 0VX53T but I am unable to find this anywhere. I've seen one on eBay (part number: Y6Y56) - would this be compatible? Here is the link to the one I've seen:

Thanks,
Priy

Hi priypriy,
We need to isolate if the issue is with the LCD screen or system board. I would suggest you to connect the system to an external display to check if the system is able to project on it.
Also, Please private message us the system service tag so that I can check the system configuration and let you know the part number. To send a private message, click on my name and send private message.

I have a Dell M2N61-AX motherboard will not enter setup.
Every time I hit the F2 key to get into setup it says "entering Setup"

I removed & reinstall the battery hopping it would reset

Any suggestions?

My guess is the mobo is faulty - I've encountered that problem once before on a Dell and sure enough it was the motherboard.

I have a problem with a batch of Dell optiplex 980's, for some reason the Main boards fail at a alarming rate.

According to Dell it is the memory controller that fails.

Error Lights 1,3,4 are on nothing on screen, power led solid blue about 10 error beeps!

Dell tech replaced the main boards and all is fine for a while but same problem persists.

Also according to Dell level 6 tech, it could be over heating, I had some fun proving them wrong, two PC's sealed in a box , hammering them, Temp between 85 Celsius - 90 Celsius in the sealed enclosure, optical drive started melting, cooled the PC's for a day and powered back on, no problems!!

Does any one out there maybe have a issue similar to this on the optiplex 980, main board failures?

Hello,

Due to my kids constantly plugging things in and out of my USB ports 2 are now broken. I wanted to remove the motherboard so that I can replace the ports. I removed all the screws that I can see holding the board to the case, but it still is being held in by something else. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Removing Dell Dimension 4550 Motherboard

Dell 4550 Manual

I too have a Dell 4550 & I also know how hard it can be to navigate thru the Dell site But if you click on this link http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4550/
& select Replacing the System Board You will see that the mobo slides out on a tray.
Look for a green tab to slide it out then once out one would remove all the screws & then give it a lil push to the left ,kinda like you would on a side cover of a tower.
Good luck I hope the link is of some help!
PS: I need a replacement board for My lil girls 4550 since a power surge fried it & it's no longer covered be Dell.

hello guys, I think i had a power surge last night at home and two of my laptops died. My XPS LED lights will go on but fan wont spin and screen stays black. I took it apart, removed cmos battery left it unplugged for like an hour and still no luck with it.
I am guessing that the motherbard has been damaged with a power surge since my other laptop died and has the same exact problem.
Where can i find a replacement motherboard? Can i Install the i7 motherboard even tho my xps came with an i5? Does the heatsink and rest of the parts remain the same between the i5 and i7?

A:Dell XPS 13 L322X i5 need motherboard replacement in europe

You'll have to search for a local source.  The CPU is soldered to the mainboard, so it gets replaced with the board itself.
You can replace an i5 board with an i7.  The only caveat would be that systems having Intel-only GPUs generally use a different heatsink than those with hybrid Intel-nVidia or Intel-AMD GPUs.

I'm new here. I'll just jump in with a vexing problem.

I have a Dell Latitude that won't run on the fully charged batteries. I have several batteries that all indicate that they are fully charged, but the laptop won't recognize the power. It runs fine with the power supply, but what good is an immobile mobile appliance? I'm sick of being tethered by the power cord.

I've been told it's a motherboard problem, but I want to know if anyone else has experience with this issue. I've been all over the 'net and through the Dell site (what a monster), and can't find anything helpful. Do you have some ideas for me?

A:Dell Latitude Battery?Motherboard Problems

This could be a problem with Voltage Regulator - not really a part of the motherboard but indeed in the laptop. This is not something you can generally fix yourself.

Anyone's help would be appreciated.

A few years back, I bought a Dell Latitude with Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit preinstalled with no COA disk.

I recently picked up a few viruses that I've determined require me to completely reformat the disk and start anew. However, I don't have the original OS disk but do intend to purchase one.

My question is: Can I install a new Windows 7 pro OS COA on a Dell motherboard without violating any of Dell's rules and requirements, and will it install and work properly? I fear that Dell is too proprietary with its components that could bar me from installing the OS properly.

Any unsolicited suggestions and comments will be appreciated.

Thanks.

A:Installing Windows 7 pro 64bit OEM COA on Dell motherboard

An OEM copy is tied to the motherboard that it was installed on so unless you bought a special license for multiple computers it will not activate on the new motherboard even if it is also a dell. That is the downside to using an OEM license. You will need a retail copy to transfer it to a new motherboard.

Usual cause is a badly seated component caused when you stripped it down to replace the fan, restrip the laptop and make sure any boards are pushed in correctly and any wiring looms are seated securely.

no pin damage on either the laptop or the adapters. I also get the same warning when I used a duck station.
