Q: notebook screens replacement

Hello all- can anyone recommend a website (better if in Canada) that sells replacement screens for notebook computers. I need one fast- hopefully one that offers express shipping.

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

One place I have seen some here recommend (however, I have never had to use them) is www.geeks.com.

I'm replacing the screen on my Y580 and I was wondering which LCDs I can use. I used the part number N156HGE-LA1 to search for new screens, but I found out that screen model is used in other laptops besides Y580 (such as HPs). That made me doubt whether it would work in my laptop or not. So then I tried another number from the screen: 209945U That one seems to be exclusive to the Y580. I found that screen for sale, but it's more expensive. Will the N156HGE-LA1 screen work for me even though Amazon is saying it's for a different laptop, or will I have to use the 209945U screen instead?  Also, is there a certain brand someone could direct me to which makes this screen and you know is good quality? Thanks so much. - Brian

Lots of "compatible" replacement batteries on eBay India: http://www.ebay.in/itm/Hako-Laptop-battery-for-HP-Pavilion-Sleekbook-14-1000-14-2099-695192-001-/322155524629?hash=item4b01f73215:g:56IAAOSw3YNXZEIH I could not find an original genuine battery on any of the India sites I know of. The compatible batteries are very attractively priced and generally reliable. I still try to buy genuine if I can for newer model laptops but have purchased compatible batteries quite frequently for older laptops where cost is an issue and have generally had a good experience.

Hi: I just purchased the 15-ay041wm (Product X0H86UA) and I am trying to replace the 1TB HDD with a Samsung 850 EVO. I followed the instructions on the Maintenance & Service Guide pages 52-53 regarding removal of bottom cover. However, after removing all 11 Phillips PM2.5 screws (including the two under the rubber bumpers), I can't pry open the bottom cover from computer (or don't know how to). It seems like it is glued or that there may be other screws. Can't find video on Internet. Do I need any special tool or special trick to pry it open? I thank you in advance for your assitance.

i have a ibm thinkpad 600E. my cd rom has suddenly stopped working. everytime i put a cd rom into the drive, a message comes back that the drive is not ready. some people have mentioned that perhaps the lens that reads whether a cd rom has been installed has worn out and i may need to replace the whole cd rom. does anyone have any suggestions on how i may be able to get my existing cd rom repaired or replaced?

A:finding a replacement notebook cd rom

My first thought is that the 600E came with a 3-year warrenty. You may be able to get this replaced under warrenty and save yourself some expence. Try calling the following number, it will put you in contact with IBM EasyServ: 800-772-2227. You will need your serial and model number (they are located under the machine on a small decal with a barcode on it). If it is still under warrenty, they will arrange to have the unit sent in for repair. They usually are very fast and you should have the computer back in three days or less.

If it is not, you should be able to buy a new one directly from IBM, the part number is 05k9068. You may also buy one here http://www.acsparts.com/thinkpads/thinkpad_data/cdroms.html, but the part number will be 05k9067. You could also shop around in the internet, these should be available from several sources.
Sorry, that part number was for the DVD drive, the par number for the CDROM is: 05k8994

Sorry about your TravelMate.. Got my ThinkPad in Nov 2004 and it's still going stong

No roadmaps are true. That's why they are called roadmaps. Also, paper specs are nothing but glorified wishful thinking by the manufacturer. Don't trust anything that isn't out there for real. There can be delays, manufacturing issues, limited supply to select partners, astronomical pricetags, unexpected performance issues, driver problems..

Whether to buy something now or wait for a while.. Do you need a new laptop now or only after a while? If you waited three years, you could get something amazingly fast

Hi there, I am looking for  a replacement batter for a HP ENVY 17-j184na Notebook PC. I replaced the original one which burned out with a 4400mAh six cell battery. The battery life for this is barely an hour out of the charger. I am looking for a replacement battery that is either:- 6-cells and higher mAh, or,- preferably, a 9 or 12 cell battery. Can I take it that all Envy 17 PC's do not have the same type of battery, and that I shouldn't look at one that just advertises Emvy 17 batteries? Any help on finding an effective replacement would be really greatly appreciated. Best regards, Josemacphisto

I am trying to find a replacement battery that doesnt suck for this laptop. I have owned the laptop for about 18 months and the battery is just dead. Wont charge at all. I only used the laptop on battery power a handful of times, the rest of the time it was plugged in and running on wall power. So I am really baffled by why this thing is dead when it has barely been used. I would like to find a replacement that is better than the one that HP tries to sell as a replacement as it has terrible reviews.

I would say the components are (in order): thermal compound - heatsink and then the fan

You would need thermal compound too. And an appropriate cleaning solution to remove previous compound.

I wouldn't know how handy you are, do you end up with spare screws when you try fixing stuff?

Any fan is operated like that, some differences apply depending on fan specs and controlling hardware.

I just had my toshiba satellite pentium xp-sp mobile processor RAM gigs into the authorize warranty depot for a replacement of the mouse pad as the warranty was almost up It is now over this was May I had called a week and a half earlier however they said toshiba notebook? can't bios after warranty password replace mouse pad replacement of the parts were delayed and did not arrive until the day before my warranty was up I can't replace bios password after warranty replacement of mouse pad toshiba notebook? had to go in for medical surgery directly after and did not use the computer until this past week and noticed when I took can't replace bios password after warranty replacement of mouse pad toshiba notebook? the notebook down to my software techie who was removing Norton Systemworks for me as I don t how to do it cleanly that my BIOS password was not in place He tried to replace it however it would not set I phoned the warranty depot and I am not a tech oriented person and know little about BIOS and I should say that my software techie called them as can't replace bios password after warranty replacement of mouse pad toshiba notebook? well I should say that I have used this software techie since I have owned the computer and he knew that I had a BIOS password and so he discussed the issue with the warranty depot tech who replaced my mouse pad The tech replied that he did not touch my main board and thus it was not his fault and he told my software techie to have me call him which I did I told him that I noticed that he did not boot my computer in front of me when he had me test the mousepad that he brought out my notebook from the back room repair station and had me check out the mouse pads which worked fine and then he also mentioned that he had looked at my PCMCIA slot pins visually and used the air duster on it but could see no issues I mention this as I advised him via phone before I went to have the mouse pads replaced that I had just recently had a problem with the PC card not recognizing my hardware and so I asked him to check it as the warranty was nearing its end I should also comment that the PC card was working when I took it into the shop and so we discussed the fact that I may not have seated the card in the slot so that there was a good contact and that was the end of the discussion Since I did not use my notebook due to my health until last week I had no realization that the BIOS password was not working On the phone he said I must have possibly had the computer near moisture which I definitely did not He admitted that he had not seen a notebook so free of dust in the openings and in overall such good shape as he indicated he sees so many with food etc on them and my computer was in excellent condition as he put it I told him I am an accountant and don t eat around my computer etc and I also use the air duster compressed air on it weekly into all the openings and have for the past years that I have owned it Now the warranty depot says that my main board likely has an issue with the BIOS chip and that they charge hr and that the board will cost - I had to pull teeth to get documentation on the work that was done under warranty and noted that the mouse pad part was quot Used quot and the area where quot Condition quot was categorized was quot blank quot But that was after I got the computer back to work as I was in a hurry when I left I never thought that I should have had him boot the computer when I was there He says there is no quot jumper quot on this notebook whatever that is and that he did not disconnect anything that my main board coincidentally must have given out right after I left his shop He claims that there was no BIOS password on the unit and I told him it was working when I booted my notebook an hour before I brought it to this Toshiba authorized depot There are no updates for the BIOS on this notebook as my software techie checked for this on Toshiba s Support site and he tried again to put in m... A:Solved: blue screens black screens green screens

The issues sound a bit like a hardware failure, the blue STOP screen could be hardware or software.

The Black screen sounds like the PC has died, but the power supply continues to run. This could well be hardware.

Both issues could be something like overheating of the CPU (are all fans running, is the CPU fan dust clogged - shouldnt be if it's "new")?

If it's "new" and under warranty, take it back.

It would have helped to know if it was a desktop or laptop though.

A:white screens, black screens, blue screens... out of nowhere!

OK, I have read you last thread and sounds like you made some progress.

Lets see the details of the Blue Screen, follow this guide to attach it to your next post.

First locate your minidump files, they are usually found by clicking on your C: drive, in Windows Explorer, then click on Windows to view the contents. If your operating system is installed under a different drive letter then look there. They should be stored under a file called minidump. The files will have a .dmp extension.
Zip up at least 6 of the most recent files into one zip folder and save on your desktop (if there are less then just zip up what you have).
NOTE To zip up a file in Windows (all versions). Right-click the file or folder, click on Send To, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder and save it to your desktop.
Open Windows Explorer, click on Desktop in the left column so you can see the zip file. In the left column click on C: > Windows > Minidump and then drag & drop any additional .dmp files into the zip folder.

• Below the Message Box click on Go Advanced. Then scroll down until you see a button, Manage Attachments. Click on that and a new window opens.
• Click on the Browse button, find the zip folder you made earlier and doubleclick on it.
• Now click on the Upload button. When done, click on the Close this window button at the bottom of the page.
• Enter your message-text in the message box, then click on Submit Message/Reply.Click to expand...

I had a better card in the PC and was running the AMD catalyst drivers.
I took that card out and put in the x1300.

Several times noticed some weird effects.
Then today I powered down cause it was pink, and it refused to turn on the screen.
So I let it sit and it is working again.

I did not uninstall catalyst AMD drivers, is that a problem? the x1300 is not a supported video card.

If it is a problem, then are the AMD drivers destroying the card? (terminating the old technology to make you get new technology)

Hi there .. It is more than likely the Card you Installed is faulty .. When you Installed that Card Windows would try to find a Driver for it .. Its a pretty old Card i know there are some Vista Drivers available for it .. Not sure about 64 Bit Drivers though ..

Hi, I am running Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 5741 laptop. I have dual monitors running. One of them is going through the VGA output of my laptop and the other is going through a USB to VGA adapter. Neither of my monitors are HDMI ready, unfortunately. This has worked for a couple of years but in the USB to VGA monitor, there is now a black square around my cursor that is really annoying. I am guessing it must be some setting that I accidentally changed or that my cat changed by running across my keyboard.Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Check the system Properties \ Startup and Recovery. Is the wright debug info set to Small Memory dump or Kernel Memory dump. You need it set to Small Memory dump to have a minidump log file in C:\Windows\minidump It would be best to have that file to see whats going on.

Where can I get (and how can I install) bootskins and logon screens for Windows 7....

Preferably an official (or official looking) FBI or CIA or NCIS or one of those other cool Agencies......

and just any cool or decent boot screen that isnt officially a boring windows boot screen (Like the glowing balls of color that swirl around and then form the Windows Flag...)

Any help, comments, suggestions, insults, compliments, advice, anything at all, is welcome.

What boot screen are you talking about? Where I work we have no "Agency" specific boot screen. It is just the default Windows Logon/Boot Screen. If you one of those ones you see in the movies, then you are out of luck.

Bill_Ving Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wireless networking poor performance and wanted to help. My immediate guess is that you might have mixed-mode networking going on.  This happens when you have two different PCs networking in two different modes -- one using "G", the other using "N".  The wireless router (or access point) can optimize performance for either mode, but not for both.  So, the "G" mode drags down the performance of the "N" mode PC, but even worse, with the router set for mixed modes, it performs more slowly than with either PC connected by itself. Here are some other troubleshooting steps you can try: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8) | HP® Customer SupportGood Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------Please click "Accept As Solution" on the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution. Please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks fopr my help.========================================================================

I made a Google notebook to keep the minutes of a meeting my business partners and I held last weekend. I made them all collaborators on the notebook so they could all make any changes or annotations they felt necessary. However, when they go to access this notebook they are prompted for a password.

There is nowhere (at least that I can find) to even choose to password protect the notebook let alone change the password. I'm pretty confused as to what password the notebook could be. The only thing I can think of is that it's asking for the password to my gmail account, which I don't really want to be handing out. Any ideas on this one gang?

Okay, I read six of your most recent minidumps contained in your first Zip file and all four in your second Zip file.

Here are the ones that stand out because they give a probable cause.

Two errors are 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI card).

The driver cited in both is klim6.sys which belongs to Kaspersky.

Four errors are 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
The Windows kernel detected an illegal or unknown processor instruction. A Stop 0x1E condition can be caused by invalid memory and access violations similar to those that generate Stop 0xA errors.

0xA errors are caused by either hardware or drivers attempting to address an IRQ Level they have no business doing.

In all four the same Kaspersky driver kl1.sys was cited as the probable cause of your system crashes.

* I suggest updating Kaspersky and/or doing a search on their forums to see what the community has to say.

By the way, nice PC.

* Get back to us with any results.

Can anyone please tell me how serious these errors are, and what the error source might be, based on the following technical information my system offers?:

12/20/11 - BAD_POOL_HEADER 0x00000019 (ox00000020, 0xE6C30500, 0xE6C31178, 0x0D8FF728)

12/22/11 - STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x00000074, 0xAF7E3C28, 0x00000000)

12/31/11 - 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8056BEF6, 0xAF247A80, 0x00000000)

Thank you.

A:Stop Error Screens ("Blue screens")

This could be caused by a bad hard drive, bad ram or software/driver that was recently installed.
Does the blue screen occur prior to logging into Windows?
Have you tried to boot into Windows safe mode?
Have you tried going back to a previous restore point?

A:new notebook Ghosted with old notebook ghost and now problems??

Something you might want to try (it's a pita) is a repair of windows - this may fix some of the slowness issues you're seeing. The install program he's talking about is probably the U3 component of many larger USB pen drives. I think it's on most of Sandisk's newer large drives. A repair of windows might also take care of this. I seriously doubt that putting the wrong image on the machine and then putting another image on could do any damage to the machine itself - the folks here at my job do it all the time.

My wife has a two-year-old Samsung notebook. Recently when she unplugged it the machine cut off, even though the battery said 79% charged (it wouldn't charge any further). I figured that the battery was bad so I bought another one from Amazon.

This one charges to 100% percent and does exactly the same thing. I'm perplexed but think there's something going on with the motherboard that won't let it use battery juice, even if Windows 8.1 says it's 100% charged.

I've tried the hold the power button down for 1 min with the battery out trick to no avail.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and think I might need to get her another notebook.

My own notebook (Asus EEE PC S101), running Windows XP service pack 3) was twice redirected to an unknown website when I wanted to visit the Guardian newspaper website. I was using IE version 8. Then the notebook froze. When this happened, I had to switch it off without using Cleanup, which I have used safely for a long time. When I had switched it on again, I used Firefox to go to the Techsupport Forum. I followed the instructions to download dds.scr and began running it. Then the notebook froze again. It still tells me "Two logs shall be created on your desktop" Now the cursor does not move any more either. I write this from another notebook, but I cannot create a logfile,m as everything is frozen on my own notebook. Help, please,

Bienh

Hi and Welcome!!

My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
If you happen to have a flash drive/thumb drive please have that ready in the event that we need to use it.
Please be sure to subscribe to the topic if you have not already done so.
IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete, download or install anything unless instructed to do so.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision. Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your operating system and losing all your programs and data.

Having said that.... Let's get going!!

Are you able to boot to Safe Mode at all? If you are, try to run DDS from there and when the logs are made please post them.

Ok I know that most people here are system builders and there are a few repair techs out there..

Any way I have a HP Touch smart IQ 770. Recently after running about a hour the screen will flicker. Go from dim to bright.. After a few minutes of that the screen will just go black. If I reboot it will come back up for a short time but goes out again.

Trying to figure out if this is a monitor problem or a Video card problem. Recently Microsoft was loged in remotely trying to resolve a virus problem. The screen went black but they were able to keep working on it.

A:LCD screens??

Either the power management software is haywire or the monitor is failing.

Locate power management controls - and disable them / set to manual.... Also, you may try SAFE mode which shouldn't have any power management to help isolate the issue.

We currently have a couple of problems with our computer. First, there is a black screen that has taken over our background. It has an ad that says it is infected and is accompanied buy a link that takes us to a site to buy an anti spyware program. When we tried to change the background from the control panel, the options thing was gone.
Next, our yahoo tool bar is gone, so we cant use our pop up blocker or our spyware filter. We cant even go to the yahoo website. When we try another screen comes up from bestlinks.com. It dose this with a few other sites also.
We havent lost any speed on the computer while on or off line. We have a dell p3 500 and we have windows xp office. Hope to hear from you soon.

A:help!!me please odd screens everywhere

Hi cmyhailey

Welcome to TSG!

Please do this:

First create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This.

Now Click here to download Hijack This. Download it and click "Save". Save it to the Hijack This folder you just created.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log. Click "Save" to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.

Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Never could get my LCD screens properly cleaned. All 'special' products for cleaning leave them with stripes.

Being a real man, i tried using WD40. First little corner on oldest monitor, ended up cleaning my flatscreen TV with it.

It renders the screens as new, i tried putting the screen on background black and it was spotless.

completely OT, bathe an old speaker overnite in WD40 makes any old scratchy speaker come back to life

A:LCD screens

You should use only water and a microfibre cloth to clean LCD computer screens. LCD cleaning products streak, and Windex Ammonia/Oil-based cleaners (like WD-40) can damage the screen.

Hi caretaker44, and welcome to TSG.

There are USB based video controllers being made, but they may not give you optimal video performance.
http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-External-Video-Card-GUC2015V/dp/B000NJFJJK

You would be better served using some type of video adapter or converter if the computer has any kind of video output connector.

It would also help us to assist you if you were to give us the brands and full model names/numbers of both the second monitor and computer. You also need to be a bit more specific than "wrong sort to plug in (old type)" when describing the video connector because we have no way of knowing how old is old.

Hi. Am trying to run 2 monitors in Win 8 and whilst it recognises them, whenever I try and move say Chrome onto one then watch a video on the other it just closes Chrome then plays the video! And as you can't resize windows at all (that I can work out!) I can only do 1 thing at a time which is useless. Please help!

A:Using 2 screens

you should be able to display any non metro app on the second screen.

all metro apps open on the primary display and can not be moved from that display.

if you don't mind a suggestion?
use vlc to watch your video's or something similar.
and chrome.

keep to the desktop as well.

and if this is what your doing already let me know and i'll have a look see if i can recreate the problem on my own system.

just let us know what applications your using at the time, also if they are metro apps or not as well would be great.

Alright. I've got an issue here.

I'd love to explore the option of using two screens (my TV and my pc monitor) together.

However, since I play games in full screen mode, it seems that either the other screen will display the game or it will display nothing at all.

Is it possible, for example, to have a game running in my monitor and VLC player running in the telly in full screen mode simultaneously? Or, for example, if I could browse internet at the same time.

Seems like full screen mode is the only limiter here and I'm not fond at all of window mode

The contrast ratio of LCD screens is the darkest of black and the brightest of white and it is how much shades of black and white the screen can display .Not how much color it can display or shades of color.

Also is true that contrast ratio is not how sharp the pictures is but the dot pitch is how sharp the picture is.The lower the dot pitch the sharper the image

Also the more color depth the more bits used to represent the color pixel and that gives a better range of distinct colors.

A one bit would be 2 color and 2-bit would be 4 colors. And 4-bit would be 16 colors. The most they have now are 32 bit

Happens about 1-2 times a day. I have been told it had to do with overheating i i now have a laptop fan. Yes, i probably use my laptop for much more than it's supposed to be used for, but it still works fairly well except for these blue screens. They happen at random times even though there has been a pattern in them happening in more CPU/Memory intensive situations.

Hi, recently I found an old and unused screen, (although old it isn't a box screen) I hooked it up to my laptop and voila it works! I set the screen to 'extend' and now my laptop runs with 2 screens. But, the other screen looks awfully bare and empty. It's missing a taskbar. I'm running windows 7 so it has its own theme, I tried multimon taskbar, but that taskbar I find very odd and bad looking, looks like windows 98.

Is there a way to get a second taskbar that is identical to the first taskbar with all the same functions but still an independent taskbar?

Is there a way without downloading?

If not, is there way with downloading?

A:2 Screens. 2 Taskbars?

The taskbar could be missing simply because it's actually there but can't be seen because the display resolution setting is too low for that size of monitor.

his is what the blue screens says:
a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

irql_not_less_or_equal

if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. if this is a new installation, ask your hadrware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

if problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. if you need to use safe to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advand startup options, ant then select safe mode.

Second erro-I inadvertenly shut down the computer before writing down the info for that- but it seemed like the error specifics were different. I also have some exclaimation marks when viewing device hardware in hidden mode-non plug & Play drop down. Thanks for any help for this.

I have a serious problem with Blue Screens I ve used Windows ever since My Blue Screen count was - BS - BS ME - BS XP - BS until now I ve been through a laptop and four PCs with XP and my current one is the only one I ve had Blue Screens on In fact until I got it I thought Blue Screens in XP were just a myth I ve built three computers Two of them had XP Home installed one of them is Screens, Blue Screens, Blue Screens! Blue what I am currently using and one had XP Pro I built this computer around April of this year I had the Blue Screen problems since the start I reformatted numerous times changed partitions etc but nothing worked I stopped using it when I went home from college for the summer but now I m Blue Screens, Blue Screens, Blue Screens! back at college with the computer and so are the Blue Screens I started writing down the exact error messages the Blue Screens contained and tried to pinpoint what I was doing when they Blue Screens, Blue Screens, Blue Screens! occured Here s the strange part - none of that mattered and it still doesn t They happen randomly I can be doing nothing or be doing everything I can be using Photoshop IE Opera and Outlook all at once or I can just be using Notepad and I ll get it I could use my computer for hours straight or I could have just turned it on two minutes ago and I ll get it all the same It s not a temperature issue either I ve gotten it on every cpu motherboard memory harddrive temperature in range The error messages they contain are completely random too I stopped writing them down because every time it comes up it s different Sometimes it says that a file caused the problem - but it fails to list the file OR the problem it caused The error number can be complex and include every number on the keyboard or it can just be all zeros Sometimes and this is the wierdest part and I ll probably have to use an example for this Have you ever used MAME You know the pixelated distorted colors that appear for a few seconds before you start most games I sometimes get a box that looks like that placed randomly in the Blue Screen I know what you re thinking - this guy doesn t know how to build computers Well the other three PCs I ve built with XP on them run perfectly fine to this day Here are my specs Windows XP Home Service Pack Abit KN nVidia nForce AMD Athlon x AM DDR PC- Corsair MB DDR PC- Corsair MB DDR PC- Corsair MB ATI Radeon x MB Bit PCI-Express Can anyone help me nbsp

Hi,
I have a machine I built; amd dual quad core; dual booted win vista(32bit) and ubuntu 8.10.

Over the last couple weeks I've gotten a couple blue screens. It usually happens after the machine has been on for most of the day. There is an alarm that goes off when either the HD or CPU gets too warm...I don't know which, actually, and it's not impossible that I put the sensor in the wrong place when putting the machine together.

Last night, when I got the bluescreen I checked the temp of the cpu's in BIOS, it said 111F, this morning, after the machine had been off all night, it said they were at 93F.

Just wondering if anyone had any insight as to what causes the bluescreens. The machine has been functioning well ever since I build it last fall.

thanks,
bp

hey
i planning to buy the hp dv2000t laptop......CAN any one tell me the difference between SEC , AUO , QDS screens?? and how can i know which one i have on my laptop??????
thanks

A:dv2000t screens

Googling: LCD SEC AUO QDS

(boy my fingers got tired! ) Lead me to this info:

QDS = Quanta
AUO = AU Optronics
SEC = Samsung
LPL = LG Philips
CMO = Chi Mei
cpt = Chungwa
hsd = Hann star
sny = Sony
tos = Toshiba

So, the acronyms are signifying the manufacturer of the panel.

Then:

"You can check your panel manufacturer a'la...Device Manager/Monitor/Plug n Play Monitor***/Details Tab....you will see the Device Instance ID's listed DISPLAY\CMO1523\4&....."

Hi, I have a Compaq Presario v5000 with Windows XP S2 that I got from a friends father. Every few days when I log on a blue screen with white words would pop up and shut down my laptop, someone told me I should reformat it but I don't know how. I would like to just erase every thing and start clean. The computer came with 2 disc one titled "Operating System CD" and the other "Application and Driver Recovery DVD" I have no idea how to fix it. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

A:Keep Getting Blue Screens.

First of all it should be updated to SP3 as SP2 is no longer supported. To do a clean reinstall you start with the operating system cd and boot from the cd and go from there. After the operating system is in then you use the cd or dvd that has the drivers and applications on it.then install all of the drivers needed etc.when you are connected to the internet download a copy of windows xp sp3 and install it.its a large file i believe of 316mb.hopefully then you should be up and running with no further problems. however theres a lot of reasons for getting a blue screen if it keeps happening after the reinstall it will have to be checked out as to why.
