DELL M1530 Blank Laptop Screen

Q: DELL M1530 Blank Laptop Screen

Hi everyone

In need of help. Started up my laptop and I am greeted by a blank screen, though the machine goes through the motions of starting up. When connected to an external monitor all works fine, and I have tried changing the inverter, but no luck.

Ran a diagnostic check, and receive the following:

Error Code 0321
Msg: Error Code 2000-0321
Msg: LCD EDID - Unable to access EDID EEPROM

Would anyone be able to restore my sanity, and offer some words of wisdom/guidance?

Would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Without any complaints toward how my laptop has been performing lately, I closed it today (something I don't usually do) and it went to sleep I assume. I came back later and the screen was blank. I held the power button to turn it off and tried restarting. The quickbar lights did their usual routine of cascading blue lights, but the screen remained unchanged, as in 'off'. Start up is accompanied by the usual humming of I guess the hard drive, but after a couple seconds the humming gets much quieter and remains at that low level. All the while nothing happens on screen.

Anyway, any suggestions? I looked around the internet briefly but could not find any solutions that seemed to be applicable to me. Maybe the laptop monitor somehow became disconnected?

Also, I'm not sure whether this is the correct sub-forum, the laptop was purchased with Vista x32 and I eventually upgraded to w7 x64

I'm working with a Dell Xps M1530 that I was told had a black screen issue. I have booted and find the screen comes up normal except at the bottom. Along the bottom, the screen shows rays of light extending upward. As you can tell the system is Win 7 Prof. I am wondering if replacing the inverter should take care of this or would the screen be necessary to correct the problem? I believe the inverter is failing when it gets hot, causing the black screen issue and the light ray appearance may be related to it as well but I don't want to replace the one item and need two. I also don't want money to be spent if it isn't needed.
I tried to attach a photo but at 1.87mb, it is too large.

Most likely possible. I installed Win10 on a Dell Studio 17/1747 a couple of days ago that had Win7. Have also installed it on 2 Dell Inspiron 15 Notebooks, just finished one. One thing to watch for is perhaps the need for updated/Win10 compatible drivers for Wireless Network and, if you have it, Bluetooth Wireless [both of my 15s needed it] but check support.dell.com with your Service Tag to be sure.

A:Dell Laptop screen Blank

If you do not see any image on your screen, you need to check if the backlight of the LCD screen is the problem. Try performing the flash light test, get a flash light and focus it to your LCD screen try to check if you can see a faint image. If you do, then you need to have the backlight or the whole LCD screen replace. Now if you do not see any faint image while using a flash light, try to connect an external monitor to your laptop to check if you can get an image.

suddenly my laptop screen has gone blank, though i could hear the windows program opening up. i connected to an external monitor and saw the text and images correctly and from my laptop typing screen. i could use the laptop keyboard again efficiently.I went to appearances and changing the settings did not work.i enlisted the support of an I.T. specialist but he gave up.Also sometimes the resolution goes to its 600x ? settings and will not allow a change but then it does after rebooting. Is this a hardware or software problem ?

If you can use an external monitor, then it sounds like your LCD Screen has gone Kaput.

Initial inspection shows it to possibly be a conflict between an AVG filter driver and a Peerblock filter driver. Check for updates on both of them, as I'm seeing them (especially Peerblock) being pretty dated. Note that you may even need to remove one of them, as by design they both operate on the same principle and will clash against each other when handling the same resources.

Laptop: Vostro 1520 Dell.

On bootup screen remains black but Hard drive make snoises and clear normal sounds are heard. I presume all else is working but the laptop screen does nothing.

I tried hooking up to an external monitor but it acknowledged an input and said "Monitor going to sleep" then remained blank.

I have also taken the panels off and cleaned the inside as well as removing the battery and using just a plug. No luck.
Any help would be neato!

I m trying to fix a friend s computer It s a Dell Inspiron laptop I can t give more detailed specs because it s not in front of me The problem is that after about seconds after powering on the screen goes dark It happens no matter what - either a normal boot or after 30 seconds screen blank laptop 6000 goes Dell Inspiron a boot straight into BIOS The screen goes completely dark but the power LED stays lit Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop screen goes blank after 30 seconds Obviously the problem isn t with the LCD backlight because the BIOS screen appears fine although it doesn t stay on I don t think the problem is with power either because we were running it off AC and the indicator light on the power supply stayed on Plus the power LED stays lit and according to the BIOS the battery is at It happens to consistently to be a loose wire or bad connection I have been checking out the different BIOS options although it is hard when the screen keeps failing I don t see anything that could cause this My theories not that I am an expert at all is it could be some kind of a screen saver or power management feature that keeps shutting down the monitor to save the screen or power Or a temperature issue By the way are screen savers even necessary on a laptop Or perhaps the problem is with the monitor switching feature - we re going to try hooking it up to an external monitor to see what happens So what s going on and how do I fix it nbsp

Please help me. I always think I am computer savvy until a random crash I can't fix gets me.

Second time, Drudge's site has crapped me out... Dell Laptop, Inspiron b130. Blank black screen, no sounds, blinking cursor. It is completely frozen here. I have tried it all: unplugged and taken out the battery with the power button hold-down, f2 and f12 boot sequence rearrangement...

How can I restore to a day ago? I am pretty sure that was what I did last time Drudge's site bit me.

I HAVE to have @#$% done for crucial work tomorrow! Please, my friends, help!

Thanks a million in advance.

My brother has a Dell Inspiron 5150 , WinXP, which is not working, it either freezes up or goes to a black, dos screen with a blinking cursor that does not respond. I have a feeling it is a hardware problem, but this is beyond my level.

Here is his email describing the problem:
"It's an dell inspiron 5150. if it boots, the cursor will suddenly freeze and not unfreeze. it also just goes black with the blinking matrix/war games dos cursor. the events are not related.

after cold shut down and restart, it may boot up or i may get the blinking cursor.

in a word, my junk don't work"

Any thoughts

DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION (c4)
A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
be among the most commonly seen crashes.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000000000000d7, Re-initializing Remove Lock.
Arg2: fffffa8005c781c0, Address of the chk build Remove Lock structure used internally by Verifier.
Arg3: fffffa80061aa050, Address of the Remove Lock structure specified by the driver.
A Remove Lock cannot be re-initialized, even after calling
IoReleaseRemoveLockAndWait, because other threads might still be
using that lock (by calling IoAcquireRemoveLock). The driver should
allocate the Remove Lock inside its device extension, and initialize
it a single time. The lock will be deleted together with the device
extension.

A:Dell XPS m1530 problems

This could be one of several problems, but assuming you can't get to your Vista desktop anymore, (is that right?) when you power on the pc, tap away at the F8 key, quickly, and straight after pressing power button.
Do you see a blackscreen with white text? If yes, scroll down with cursor key to the line 'Use last known good configuration' and press 'enter'.
But without knowing any more, your problem could be, a faulty RAM board, (5 minutes to swap in a new one, and not expensive), or a failing Hard drive, not good, or other main circuit board problem. It's not so likely to be the battery though, but try the F8 key (Safe mode) idea first.

I have an older XPS M1530 that came with Vista. I got Windows 7 in it now. Can not play any CD's. The controls are not working either, so I have to go in the "computer" to eject the cd. When I insert the cd. I can hear that something is trying to work. But after 30 sec or so It stops and ask me to insert CD. I can push play on my remote control and it tries to play, but I get the same message. On my DVD Drive E property it says :File system unknown, Free or Used space: 0 Bytes. Capacity: 0 Bytes .                          Any suggestion ??????

It is true that nVidia has always claimed that only some of the chips were defective.  Other sources claim they're all defective and that nVidia never redesigned the chip as would be required to fix the problem.
With a system that is 4+ years old it's likely impossible to differentiate a failure due to the design flaws in this chip from normal age-induced mortality.

Hey,
Had a Dell XPS M1530 since around February last year and was working fine up till now. Left my computer in sleep mode last night (which i do fairly often) but when i got home today and tried to turn it on (by pressing the power button) the button only flashed on for about 3 seconds and there was no other response although i could hear hard drive whirring away.
After trying another 2 times I restarted computer (by holding in power button) and then tried to turn on. However i keep getting the same result of the blue flashing on for three seconds then turning back off.
Have tried taking out the battery out and putting back in and starting the computer with only power cord but same result every time.
My warranty with Dell has run out so i can't just send back. Any ideas?

A:Dell XPS M1530 won't boot

As an update I tried reseating RAM and trying with only 2GB stick then with only 1GB stick but no improvement.
Found on Dell support holding 'fn' and power button runs a quick diagnostic with flashy LED's as codes. Got the first one flashing and the others solid which according to website means :

"The Microcontroller is handing control of the system to the processor. This code will persist if there is no processor detected"

Which i believe i'm correct in assuming means either my CPU or my motherboard is stuffed? In which case about my only option is finding the cheapest person to repair/replace it...?

I have an XPS M1530. It was displaying the message about battery can continue to charge but is reaching the end of its usable life - for about a year. I never operate the laptop without the AC adapter. I went to turn it on and it turned on and then immediately shut off. Then the AC light turned off. Now if I unplug the AC adapter from the computer, unplug the AC adapter from the wall and plug it back in the light will come on. Then as soon as I plug the AC adapter into the laptop the light goes off. Laptop does nothing/completely dead. I have 2 Dell AC adapters and both behave the same. I have tried it with and without the battery and same issue. Do you think a new battery will fix it? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

A:Dell M1530 will not turn on

The problem might be from battery. have you tried installing your lappy with a differnt one?

Has anyone who has a Dell XPS M1530 (laptop) installed the 64 bit version of Vista? If so, which drivers do you need?

My graphics card is nVidia geforce 8600m gt

I definitely know that a driver is required for this graphics card, but I'm not entirely sure where to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has any other driver information with regards to the XPS M1530 then please make it known.

Hi,

I am experiencing random BSOD's on my Dell XPS M1530 (T8300,4GB,8600M GT 256MB DDR3). The freezes happen while gaming or doing normal stuff (surfing the web, listening music etc.) I tried to verify what the problem is but couldn't identify the cause. I'm using Windows 7 x64 Professional which was freshly installed a week ago. I installed all up-to-date drivers that could be found on the net. The freezes occured even earlier, before the fresh install. I attach the dump from the BSOD which occured today. I hope you can help me find what the problem is.

This one is pretty straight foward, it is due to your intel wifi driver. I would download and install fresh copy of it

Hi guys, I was just wondering, if anyone knew about a newer firmware or driver software that I could find for the Optical Drive of my Dell XPS M1530.

The problem is that I'm testing Windows 7 SP1 (V 1.53, btw). Yeah... Yeah... I know... Since is not an official release I can't hope for it to work or have them available, etc... etc...

But, I felt a considerable speed up in my system, and almost all bugs and slowdowns that my Win 7 64 bit had, were resolved, or were not presented.

I really need a driver that can actually support it, if exists, if not, well... got to wait for the main release... ()

This is the optical device:

I have totally disassembled this laptop, replaced the entire LCD, and the power inverter, still all I get when it boots is a black screen, sometimes it kind of gets darker and you can see the black image split in the middle? Although I can hit FN and LCD to an external monitor and that works fine?

Im not sure what to replace next? Could it be the LCD cable or is it most likely a bad mobo?

Are the video channels separate, the LCD from the external monitor port?

Any help would be great, as this is driving me crazy!

Happy New Year!

OK, I have a 2-3 year old Dell XPS M1530 laptop, which is crashing.

It was running Vista Home Premium 32-bit OEM originally, but I upgraded it to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit Retail some time ago with no problems.

Since then I had problems with the internal Intel WiFi 4965AGN disconnecting and dropping packets, so having tried upgrading the driver, I replaced it with an Intel WiFi 5300. So I suspect the 5300 is the likely problem.

Let me know what you find, and thanks in advance.

I have a Dell XPS M1530. When it is plugged in, it seems to get kind of hot. The fans are still running, I can feel the air coming out and I can hear the fans running. I blew out the vent anyway. The real pain in the butt is that it will just shut off sometimes. I have not noticed the issue when it is not plugged in. It gives me no warning just POW! .... it's off. When I turn it back on it gives no indication of a bad shut down or anything. Sometimes it says that status monitor 3 has stopped working but, only sometimes. Any ideas?

Hello everyone,

Yet another BSOD thread, for Win7 64bit

I am trying to download the appropriate resources to debug this myself, but since it will be my first try ever to do that, perhaps some help from the 'pros' can be beneficial.

I am attaching a zip of my recent crush minidumps

Thanks in advance

These crashes were caused by your network, and wifi drivers. I would reinsatll a fresh copy and run a system file check
to do that type cmd in search?right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (not the space between the sfc and "/")

Let us know if you need help with this

A:Flash bios for Dell XPS m1530

You can't flash the BIOS on a machine that won't post, and that's unlikely to be the source of your problem anyway.
You seem to be saying it won't boot from a CD/DVD.
You could try re-seating the hard drive, but this isn't looking good.
Have there been other, previous problems? Have you ever dropped or kicked this machine? Have you tried booting with the battery removed?

I have a Dell M1530 running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. My touchpad \ mouse has stopped working. The pointer just sits in the middle of the screen. I even tried to use a USB mouse, that didn't work either. I got the newest driver for it from Dell, installed it & still nothing. When I check for it in the Device Manager the Mouse \ Touchpad has a yellow ! on it. Checking the driver for it, it says windows can't load the driver cause it is corrupt or missing (code 39). I can barely navigate around on it! Please help me! I just want my mouse \ touchpad to work again! I don't want to have to do a complete reinstall, I'm not that smart & would probably mess it up.

A:Dell M1530 Touchpad / Mouse

Hi, Any issue with the Touchpad driver or hardware would have no connection to the USB mouse problem. The problem if both are not working sound like a windows issue. With the USB mouse plugged in does it show up the Device Manager? It should show up and load drivers that are provided by Windows. Have you tested the USB ports to see if anything else plugged into them is working?Have You tried System Restore to go back in Time to when the Mouse / Touchpad worked? System Restore should be accessed by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Our Tutorial on using it is hereWindows Vista System Restore GuideIntroduction to System RestoreSystem Restore is a system recovery feature of Windows that creates snapshots, or restore points, of the state of your computer at various intervals or before you perform a certain task. These restore points can then be used to restore your computer back to the state it was in when they were taken. When these restore points are created, and restored, the only files affected are the Windows Registry, programs, and system files. Your data such as spreadsheets, documents, images, and music remain untouched between restores. You may be wondering why you would want to restore your computer to a previous point. The reason being that there comes a time in every computer user's life that they install a new program, install a new driver, or just turn on the computer and find it no longer works as it did the day before. You have no idea why, can't resolve the problems, and are left with two options. You can either backup your data, reinstall the operating system, and then reinstall all your applications or you can restore your computer to a previous snapshot in the hopes that the problems will now be gone. By using System Restore to restore your computer to a previously known working state you can save considerable time or money compared to reinstalling the entire computer.Good LuckRoger

Hi I have a Dell XPS M1530. Sometimes it boots, other times Windows appears to be loading but the screen is black. When it boots I am informed that the battery needs replacing. I have no problem replacing the batteries but I am not sure this is the solution. If the laptop is plugged into a mains supply I would expect it to boot regardless of whether the batteries needs replacing or is this not the case?

thanks

Hi I ve got a XPS M Vista Dell crash up on booting M1530 XPS SP and I have recently experienced some problems This morning the screen would remain black while the laptop made the usual start up sounds and then did nothing The power button remained lit After some googling I had found a solution heating the gpu I found the info in a thread on this forum So I opened up my laptop but I was not able to remove the heat sink a screw that just wouldn t open so I Dell XPS M1530 crash on booting up determined through pictures where the gpu was and heated the area of the heat sink under which the gpu lies with a hair dryer I did this till the area above the gpu was too hot to touch Afterwards I started my laptop up and I didn t have the black screen it just booted up as usual However before I got past the dell screen it crashed I assumed it was overheating but after waiting some time I booted up again and got past the dell screen and had a boot up screen asking me to do a diagnostic and recovery thingie because there might be a software or hardware failure It proceeded to do this but after some time during the test it crashed again After booting it immediately back up it crashed before I got past the Dell screen After waiting a long time I tried again and this time it got further through the diagnostic test but eventually crashed again Now when I try the load bar on the dell screen goes extremely slowly and the laptop crashes before it gets past that stage it crashes slowly if I didn t try to start it before rapidly if I just experienced a crash Sorry for the long post but does anybody have an idea what I can do about this nbsp

heated the area of the heat sink under which the gpu lies with a hair dryer. I did this till the area above the gpu was too hot to touch.Click to expand...

Where did you get the advise to do this You should have come here first for some honest advise.

Heat is not a good thing for any electronic device. What you have done may have finished off a processor that was already half baked. I doubt if there is a way to recover from this other than replacing the GPU.

When you quote the GPU are you sure you are not confusing this with CPU. As far as I can see from your sytems manual, on the Dell site, the gahics card has no heat sink so you probably cooked your CPU. The heat sink is there for just one reason, to get rid of heat.

Hi,
I just got a motherboard replacement for my DELL XPS M1530 (not replaced from DELL) after the previous graphics card was cooked.
It had been three years since the machine was working fine when I started giving some problems and I had to get the motherboard replaced.
The garphics are fine now but sometimes it reaches 100% CPU Usage point and the fan starts running more than often.
During this period I noticed, I am usually not performing any intensive tasks( normal tasks such as browser etc.)
What could be the reason for the high CPU usage?

A:High CPU Usage (DELL XPS M1530)

One way to find out is to open the task manager, click on the process tab and look down the list to see which processes are using the cpu power. Then google that process,it is of course possible that what you find is a windows process using the cpu. Antivirus programs and firewalls can cause this to happen. You often have to use a process of elimination to find the cause.

You cant replace graphics cards for laptops. But I may have a solution. I would have first thought that this was a screen issue, but when you hooked it up to another monitor that idea was gone. These are all STOP 0x124 errors. As such, it's the CPU telling Windows what the error is - and that just doesn't provide any significant information for us to work with. The errors are usually either a hardware problem or a compatibility issue.

Also, The Windows Debugging Tools aren't able to access symbols for your operating system files (in particular NTOSKRNL.EXE / NTKRNLMP.EXE / NTKRNLPA.EXE / NTKRPAMP.EXE) from the Microsoft Symbol Server - so that makes debugging them difficult if not impossible.

Please do the following:
- activate/validate the Windows installation at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- open a support incident with Microsoft to see if they can fix the missing symbols issue ( http://support.microsoft.com/ph/14019 )
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds

I'd suggest uninstalling all traces of Nero 7 - it's not compatible with Win7 according to this site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/com...ero%207&page=3

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

Quote:

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).

I had to reinstall WinXP on my Dell XPS M1530, and now Windows doesn't detect the bluetooth unit. The symbol in the line with power buttons etc is lighted though. I have software from before, but could only copy, not install it. What I find works only in Vista. Broadcom's own bluetooth software does neither detect a bluetooth nor work without that. In the control panel there is no icon for bluetooth, even though Windows help suggests exactly that.

Does anyone know how to do that? It worked before, but now I can't figure out how, even after hours of googling...

Dell does not provide support for this laptop for windows 7. But i installed it and it works as a charm, but with a problem of BSOD. I have being ignoring this problem since i installed but it is getting on my nerves now. Also, laptop heats up fast.

I have attached the BSOD dump starting from Jan till date.

This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced.

Usual causes are a bug in a device driver, hardware related memory issues, corrupt NTFS volume, anti-virus software.

If they are, temporarily remove the device to ensure the camera is not the cause of the crashes.

Hi all I hope someone can figure out the issue with my machine Here is the setup Dell XPS m Current OS Windows Ultimate x Downloaded from MSDN via subscription Original OS Windows Vista Home x Here is the issue I upgraded my laptop to W with a clean - Windows Dell - x64 Ultimate BSODs 7 m1530 XPS install and downloaded most BSODs - Dell XPS m1530 - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 drivers from Dell the vista bit drivers Additionally i installed an upgraded video card driver from nVidia Upgraded the BIOS and installed some Dell specific applications Everything seemed to work fine for a while I am not sure how long - A few months maybe and then I started getting really random BSOD's It didn't matter what I was doing on the machine I also seemed to get every kind of error imaginable During that time and increasingly more BSODs - Dell XPS m1530 - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 frequently I started hearing a sort of clicking sound or maybe more pinging - it's hard to describe The crashes sometimes coincided with me hearing this noise but not all the time Eventually my PC would not boot at all and I called Dell who said it was a motherboard problem I am still under warranty so they BSODs - Dell XPS m1530 - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 came out and changed it A few days after I started getting crashes again About a month ago getting fed up I reinstalled Windows again and updated the essential drivers instead of all of them like I did before From Dell I installed the sound bluetooth and touchpad drivers installed the quickset application so the media keys would work and installed the graphics card driver from nVidia Everything else seems to work fine except that there are two devices in device manager that do not have drivers installed They are labelled Base System Device and Unknown Device I still get BSODs but it seems not as frequently I have attached the BSOD info since the last install Hope I've given enough info to help solve the issue Please let me know if more info is required Thanks

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS M1530 which I installed Windows 7 Professional (SP1) x86 from MSDN.

Most times when the laptop is going to sleep from a power management sleep after x minutes, or closing the lid, this happens:
- The system appears to hang. There's no hard disk activity and nothing recorded in the event viewer around that time.
- The screen is black and doesn't wake up
- Capslock/numlock don't light up when toggled

And I have to hold the power button to turn the system off. When I turn it back on there's no evidence of a bugcheck or error in any of the system event logs.

What's the best way of starting to debug this issue and track down what's causing this?

Thanks!

A:Dell XPS M1530 becomes completely unresponsive when entering sleep

Hi breathing ,

My name is Sukanya and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.
In regards to teh issue you have reported ,I suggest you update the system BIOS and teh video driver once .If that does not fix we can try reinstakkin Windows 7 once again just to rule out the OS .If that alos do not fix the issue ,it could be a hard ware fault and a video card replacement may be required.
I am attaching the link from teh bios and the graphics card driver.

Please let me know how it is working out.

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so I'll try here. I have installed W7 RC and the Dell MD BluRay software and it works except it wraps the video around the screen. IOW the left side of the video starts about 1/3 of the way from the left side of the screen and the right of the video wraps to the left side of the screen.

I have tried Arcsoft TMT3 and PowerDVD and the video is fine, but no sound from TMT3 and PowerDVD spiked my CPU to 100% 5 times watching a movie yesterday. Had to completely shut down the program and restart and then it would run fine for a while.

If anyone has any suggestions or knows of a Dell upadte, I would be gratefull.

A:Dell Media Direct BluRay Software - XPS M1530

I too am having the same problem. When I first got machine, it did not have error. However, since I have reinstalled OS, I now have video wrapping from right to left around window. Changes to settings does not fix problem.

I had to replace the motherboard on this laptop and it all worked fine with Windows 7 home prem. The only issue was not saving the date and time on cold boot. When I put it in sleep it does fine on wakeup. I tore it down again since the cmos battery is very inaccessable. The battery checked fine(3.2v) The only error I get on boot is: "RTC is fixed- time and date may be wrong"
What am I missing? Thanks

Hi,

I recently ran into some computer trouble on my laptop and was hoping to receive some input as to what the problem may be. For about one day now, my laptop, which is a Dell XPS M1530, has been cutting off on random intervals (sometimes on the order of minutes to as much as an hour), and I cannot seem to figure out why. What we know is this:

-The fan is still fully functional
-The computer is not overheating
-No viruses detected after doing a scan (we thought that viruses may be a possibility)
-The power supply is functional
-The motherboard is obviously not damaged, as the computer can still work

I would greatly appreciate any assistance!

Thanks,

~Trav.~

A:Dell 1520 blank screen

Hello and Welcome! It may be that your video card driver has become corrupt during the aforementioned process. Try booting into safe mode. (Do so by tapping the F8 key while the computer is booting).. If it will boot into safe mode then go to Device manager (right click 'My Computer', choose Properties/Hardware Tab/Device Manager) and uninstall the Display adapter. Restart the pc and Windows will re-install it. You may have to set the proper resolution again. Good Luck!

My daughter has a Dell Insprion 8100 notebook running Windows XP Home Edition. When she started the computer this morning the screen remains blank although the PC appears to be starting up - can't tell what's happening since the screen is blank although the disk is being accessed as evidenced by the flashing keyboard lights. The problem seems to have started when she plugged in the battery charger. At first, the PC would start under battery power normally, but that has stopped. Even under battery power the symptom is the same - a blank screen that flashes intermittently, but displays nothing else. Can someone offer some advice. Of course she is scheduled to go back to college next week and uses her notebook extensively. Thanks.

I have a dell inspiron 9100 with windows xp home and i was having this problem with my screen being blank when i booted it, you could hear the hard drive making noises but the screen was blank. The screen would eventually come on after waiting a while and rebooting a few times. Now the screen will not turn on at all, i've checked the lid close button and that isnt stuck. My only thoughts are that its the video card, but im just hoping it isnt. If anyone has any thoughts let me know.

A:Dell Inspiron 9100 screen blank

if this is some kind of malware issue combinate with hardware
why don't you try a fresh clean instalation of windows?

then if the problem persist, the problem will be on the screen alone
the next step will be open your laptop and make sure the connectors
are right connected.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Can you boot to Safe Mode?

Put your Windows installation CD into the PC and see if you can launch startup repair.

A:blank screen on Dell Inspiron one 2020

Hi gogreenandgold21, Welcome to the Dell Community Forum. Please try the following mentioned steps to identify the hardware functionality. 1. Please shut down the computer, remove all connected devices like Power cable, USB devices and press and hold Power button for 40 seconds 2. Restart the computer and Tap F12, select the option Diagnostics 3. Please run a complete Diagnostics on your computer and make a note of any error message. 4. If the screen still displays a black screen, please try connecting an External Monitor and let us know if everything else works fine. 5. If you’re able to boot into the system, please try updating the BIOS and Video drivers from this link http://dell.to/1hcxG98
Please complete all these steps and revert us with the results.

The screen on my dell inspiron 7000 went blank. I connected an external monitor and it worked for a while and then it went blank too. The monitor was quite old however and I wondered if it died in the moment as well. Subsequently I reasoned that something could be wrong with the video card or motherboard, but how to check? I could buy another laptop but I have a desktop and I am intrigued to see if I can fix it. Any ideas?

Patrick

Hello,
After the laptop computer started, it works for many hours (from 4 to 10 hours). For an unknown reason, a blue screen (BOSD) occurs many times by day (on Windows Seven x64 platform).
The drivers have been updated. The "Windows Update" is used to install the last updates each day and then is de-activated while trying to find what the problem is.
Kaspersky antivirus is used
The requested files asked in the "BOSD Posting instruction" are given in attachment
Thanks in advance for your help

The driver for the video card (NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS) has been deactivated. The BOSD doesn't occur for the two last days.

Hello All This error may have been posted already i have a friend s Dell XPS m that was not booting into Vista the vista loading bar came up for a couple seconds and then the screen went black after about - mins a blue m1530 screen grey XPS screen would come up giving an error which i cannot remember I would then have to manual shut it down I assumed that the windows was corrupt and proceeded to boot from a flash drive to install windows the install started to load and then the screen display was glitchy like those old genesis games that were dirty anyways i could not see anything besides the glitchy mouse restarted and then the screen comes up grey with some darker lines between i tried an external monitor but it just shows glitchy i cannot make out to do anything on the screen is this a display driver issue if so why did it happen so suddenly and how can i be fixed XPS m1530 grey screen thanks XPS m1530 grey screen for your help in advance Andre nbsp

A:XPS m1530 grey screen

Could be a power supply issue, a failing hard drive, one memory module failing, or a video graphics card failing. Not likely a driver issue.
That XPS m1530 model has a very touchy motherboard which has a history of problems... failing memory sockets, etc. It also has heating problems with that cooling screen to the CPU fills up with lint, dust, dirt, and fiber... the resulting overheating seems to speed along the failure of various components. The power supply has performance issues if you have a powerfull video graphics card.
Give us the brand and the build date on the hard drive... and the model number of the video graphics card.
I am betting on a video card failure and the hard drive failing... if it is a Maxtor, Samsung, or Hitachi

Hi everyone In need of help. Started up my Dell 1737 laptop and I am greeted by a blank screen, though the machine goes through the motions of starting up. When connected to an external monitor all works fine, and I have tried changing the inverter, but no luck. Ran a diagnostic check, and receive the following:

Error Code 0321
Msg: Error Code 2000-0321
Msg: LCD EDID - Unable to access EDID EEPROM

Prior to this everything was working fine. The display had even brightness and color.

Would anyone be able to restore my sanity, and offer some words of wisdom/guidance? Would be much appreciated. Many Thanks.

A:Solved: Blank display on Dell 1737 laptop

Hi and welcome to TSG!!

It kinda sounds like a new LCD is in order. It's usually best to get the numbers off the existing panel to match it up more closely. You might want to verify the flat ribbon cable is securely fastened on each end, too.

My DELL 8600 Laptop goes blank after booting Windows XP logo.

I'm able to boot using VGA mode. So it appears that the LCD screen is working properly.

Currently - I'm using a projector to view the screen in regular boot mode this is the only way to view the screen at regular size at this time.

The settings on the display are the default settings 1024X768 32bit RADEON 9000 (ATI Graphic card).

I'm wondering if its possible that the Video card has just crap out or corruption has occured in the XP OS?

Appreciate your opinion!

A:Dell Inspiron 1526 blank screen after hibernation

Hi

if you remove the PSU lead and the battery and then replace them and boot and you get nothing come on the monitor then i would suggest the video card has failed or the screen has gone bad, if there is a socket for a vga monitor then plug one in and see if anything comes on the screen.

Hi This is my first post on the forums and I hope someone can help me The Dell XPS All-In-One that I bought for my -year-old son months ago yes that means the warranty is expired will not boot No post no beep nothing Just a brief flicker of light on the screen no words nothing The machine gets casual use and there is nothing to indicate what could have caused the problem I did not upgrade the BIOS recently so it s not like it was a bad BIOS upgrade or anything I ve tried hitting the F the F the F and the DEL keys during boot No result The video is working I know this because I can connect my laptop to the HDMI-in port and I can see the desktop of my laptop just fine So the issue is NOT the video My son uses this machine for homework and occasional movies in his room I would like to fix the computer if I can I am handy with Won't Dell Completely Screen All-In-One Blank Boot, XPS 2710 computers and built several machines from the ground-up in the past I believe the most likely scenario is that the motherboard has gone bad there are numerous posts around the internet about the AIO motherboards being unreliable I saw a posting on the Dell forums from a guy who said Dell Tech Support replaced his motherboard five times I see some of these motherboards selling on eBay for around I m toying with the idea of getting one I ve looked at the service manual for the and I m fairly confident I could replace the board Has anyone had Dell XPS 2710 All-In-One Won't Boot, Screen Completely Blank experience with swapping out their motherboard on a AIO Or does Dell XPS 2710 All-In-One Won't Boot, Screen Completely Blank anyone have any ideas about what else the problem with my son s computer could be I appreciate any advice help that someone could offer

A:Dell XPS 2710 All-In-One Won't Boot, Screen Completely Blank

Ok, I removed all RAM from the motherboard (there were two sticks) and disconnected the SATA hard drive connector. Then I turned on the machine and got two very loud beeps, but still no video on the screen showing any kind of POST activity. The beeps were the first sounds I have ever heard during the boot-up procedure on this machine.

I put the RAM back in and re-connected the SATA cable. Back to the way it was, no video, no post, no beeps.

I'm somewhat at a loss for what I have determined . . . does this mean that the motherboard is technically functional and that some other device on the machine is causing the problem? Am I right in assuming that if I didn't hear the two beeps, then I would have certainty that the motherboard was bad? Since it does beep, the solution becomes murkier, I suppose.

I can't help but feel that somehow the BIOS on the machine has become corrupted. Not sure at all how that could have happened, though, since I have not upgraded the BIOS in over a year. I can't remember what BIOS version I have, but it had been working fine for the past year with no issues.

Thanks for any other help/suggestions you can provide.

A:Dell ultrabook - Windows installation blank screen

The Dell Community forum (users helping users just like this forum except those users know Dell systems) is probably the best place to start. Laptop - Dell Community

Here is the Dell instructions on a manual reinstall for Win 7. it should be the same for Win 8. Windows 7 Manual Reinstall | Dell

There is (or was) a Dell PC Restore (recovery Partition) on the hard drive, accessed by F8 at power on that will restore the PC to the original factory condition and no disc is needed.
