I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello I have a really weird thing going on I have a asus PG D motherboard I m not sure if it s the pro or the normal version but when I compare the pictures of the two motherboards on the Asus website with what mine looks like it looks like a P GD Pro motherboard So when I click on the downloads part of the page dedicated to that motherboard I look for the sound drivers for the onboard sound and the latest ones are very old like But the name of the drivers is Realtek ALC Audio Driver V beta for Windows have do, upgrade motherboard, if don't Can't sound I onboard sound I with Asus a bit XP So to find the latest Can't upgrade onboard sound with a Asus motherboard, if I do, I don't have sound I go on the Realtek website and find the latest drivers for the ALC I uninstall the old ones version and install the new ones version Reboot And then I have no sound When I try to read a audio file it makes the program crash etc So it s really weird since Realtek just says that not getting the drivers from the manufacturer will only cause me to loose the special tools and gadgets from the manufacturer Asus here but that s not a problem I just want to upgrade the drivers Either it s Asus that messed up or I m not getting the correct ones from the website Another weird thing is that inside Everest a program to get infos on my PC and what s in it it says my sound card is a quot Intel FB ICH - High Definition Audio Controller B- quot Also if I look the audio drivers on the asus website for the P GD motherboard the normal not the quot Pro quot version it givres the same name for the audio chipset quot ALC quot so it wouldn t really matter I guess Also i m french so please excuse my english Also being french I tried a website that is quite reliable but in french that scans your PC to see what you have and tells you what drivers you need and where to get them I tried that for the onboard sound and I get the same result no sound If anyone can help that would be great nbsp

A:Can't upgrade onboard sound with a Asus motherboard, if I do, I don't have sound

So it's really weird, since Realtek just says that not getting the drivers from the manufacturer will only cause me to loose the special tools and gadgets from the manufacturer (Asus here), but that's not a problem, I just want to upgrade the drivers.Click to expand...

Just use the ASUS ones, its very unlikely that there have been any updates for years.

i am going to buy a geforce 8600gt card and i'm willing to buy an ASUS M2N-MX mother board which has a 16x pci-e slot and also an onboard integrated geforce 6100 card.can anyone tell me if this motherboard is suitable for 8600gt or it's onboard video memory will create any problem with 8600gt?

A:will onboard geforce 6100 card of ASUS M2N-MX motherboard create trouble with 8600gt?

Just to be safe, I wouldn't go for that motherboard. Maybe an ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe. But if you do choose to go that motherboard don't see why it would be a problem. Once you put in your 8600GT and connect your monitor up to the 8600GT GPU rather than the onboard than the 6100 should immediately disactivate and your computer will be running off the 8600GT. Just a guess

I have a PC clone with a ASUS P4S800 motherboard with integrated sound. I have tried to load drivers from the motherboard CD to download SoundMax. In system's hardware devices under Sound, Video and game controllers there is: Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture devices, Media Control devices, SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio with a yellow exclamation mark and Standard game port and Video Codecs.

I have uninstalled the Soundmax three time and everytime I re-install I get the yellow ! in a triangle and a warning saying it is corupt.

What can I do to fix this?

I've been having a rather irritating problem with my NVIDIA graphics card. Ever since I installed the card, it has been outputting sound through the card instead of through my onboard audio. Since I do not want to purchase an HDMI to DVI cable to play sound through my monitor, I was wondering how to redirect the audio to play through my motherboard so I can hear sound again. I have tried resetting BIOS settings, reinstalling all drivers for sound card, motherboard, and gpu, and I have poked around 100's of forums, and tried everything. I'm even considering buying a different brand of card because this stupid thing has created so many problems.

A:How do I output sound through my ASUS Motherboard?

Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar. Select playback devices and see if you have an option other than HDMI. I have 4 HDMI ports in addition to Speakers and "Speakers" is the default device on my machine.

Recently bought and installed a ASUS P5kpl-am EPU motherboard and it's all working dandy apart from the sound. I installed the drivers from the official asus website for the board which is the VIA Audio codecs and software and it detects both my microphone and headphones but neither will work. What should I do?

A:No Sound: Realtek Asus Motherboard Win7 64bit

I was just told to try a repair install. Looking at the repair install info here I was told by the poster NOT to do this if a recovery did not work.
As I said I am so confident that something somewhere was deleted, removed, blocked, broke or corrupted with my internal software. This is not a hardware issue.

What are the important audio files that I should make sure still exist on my computer? In order for computers to play any audio files what .dll, .exe, .com files must exist in windows or on my computer? I want to verify they are there.

While I have been trouble shooting my issue I found this post:

My Avast! program recognized Audiodg.exe as a malicious file and removed it. Since then, I have not been able to get sound on my system.
I have looked for a place to download and restore the Audiodg.exe file, but am unable to find it anywhere.
In my sound playback devices, when I try to 'test' my sound, I get an error "failed to play test tone". My audio drivers are all up to date."

This problem seems similar to mine as I had that Avast program and also recently found spyware. Is this something I should investigate - my computer deleting important audio files, these files becoming corrupt or accidental deletion of such files by me? If so which ones should I look for?

Even if I checked your solution I will check it again if you think I should. Even if you think it is not worth a mention - mention it!

I'm rebuilding an old system for a customer using their harddrive, cdrom and dvd reader.

The core is:

AMD Sempron 2200+
Asus A7V400-MX motherboard
256mb Ram

My problem is this: everything seems to recognize correctly, but I'm not getting any sound whatsoever on the onboard. It's set up properly in BIOS, shows up in the task bar and says in the device manager that it's configured and functioning correctly.

The system is loaded with Windows98 SE. I've tried everything I can think of but still can't get the sound actually working. The customer is insistant that they get the system back ASAP and I've run out of ideas. Any thoughts?

A:Onboard sound trouble with ASUS A7V400-MX and Windows98SE

I'd like to apologize in advance for my questions. I'm not being condescending.

Have you checked the master volume window? Is the only muted volume the microphone?

Have you verified that the speakers work? Most system speakers will not play higher bitrate sounds, so sounds will not play if there are no speakers.

Are you certain that you have the speakers plugged into the correct location?

Again, i'm sorry if you've already checked all this stuff. I just want to start out by covering all the bases.

As of the first of Oct. Asus dropped Nvidia and is going with ATI. The various benches around the Internet sites show the new 9600XT to be (maybe) a little better than the 9600 Pro but the Pro is a better buy. A:KVM switches and Newer Asus Motherboards

I seriously doubt you'll find anyone to "patch" the BIOS without the source code. I gather you don't have any programming background, or you'd know how difficult this would be without the source or any documentation.

I suspect the small demand for KVM capability puts your request pretty far down their priority list. I know that's not an answer you want to hear, but I suspect that's the situation. As far as the engineers being "to lazy to fix it", I say that's pure bollocks, to borrow one of your pet words. Just as in any other job, they have their priorities, and I suspect there are a lot of more pressing issues they're addressing.

hey all,
I have a k7s5a mothboard and need to know where the switches are for the front usb ports so if anyone can send me a sheet showing the location of the switches that would be great.

A:Front usb switches on k7s5a motherboard

Most do not have any. They work from the chipset drivers when plugged in. Are you having trouble. Are you talking about audio or video?
You can see if they are set up by going to Device Manager in System, and see if there are any yellow or red flags by the exisiting USB ports that are listed as detected.
If not fully setup, wait until everything is setup.

The front panel switches of my (old) case when attached to the slots on the motherboard fail.
When all is plugged in and switched on, PC fails to turn on. The F/P switches are: | M/B SW | HD LED | Power LED +/- | RESET SW.

And I have tried the M/B SW (green and black cable) is all the available slots on the motherboard and still it doesn't switch on the computer. At first I thought it was because my PSU was only 400W and read in the manual somewhere about it needing at least 500W so I bought a 620W one and still it doesn't work.

The mobo is: GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2PV GEN3 Intel H61 (REV B3)

Any ideas/solutions appreciated?

A:Front Panel Switches / Motherboard

You can get the motherboard manual from the manufacturers website. See here>

The pinout and where the cables connect will be covered in the manual. You can test the motherboard by simply connecting the two pins (the power switch pins) with a metal object (ie: screwdriver, paperclip, scrap of wire, etc.).

The only wires that will be polarity sensative would be the ones for the LEDs. For switchs they are either open or close no polarity involved.

Followup: I was able to fix it and thought I'd post this info since it might help others who might have the same problem. After reading through dozens of pages here and in the ASUS forums, I discovered that one of my default BIOS setting mysteriously ended up in a non-default state. For some reason, the RAID option for Silicon Image was set to RAID. That's fine for those how actually want to setup RAID but I didn't plan to use RAID at the time. After making the change to the BIOS, I had to install Windows XP again to get everything registered correctly. OK so I always watch video and movies with my ASUS computer attached to my HDTV. I have never had a problem then one day the audio stopped switching to my tv automatically. I also use surround sound headphones sometimes which require a USB connection and the audio no longer switches to them automatically either. I know I can set the HDTV and the headphones as default audio players so that they will play the audio but I want it back so that when I turn on the HDTV it automatically switches the audio to the HDTV and so that when I plug in the USB headset it automatically sends the audio through that. How do I get it to do that?

A:Sound no longer automatically switches to HDTV

The switching (detection) of HDMI audio is usually a function of the video drivers and an HDMI cable connected. First thought, update (or reinstall if you have the latest) the video drivers and then see if the problem is resolved.

Greetings community,

This is a very weird problem which I never had before. When I'm in gaming sessions such as WoW, CoD and more even 8ball pool... the sound from headphones just "cut" and goes to speakers.

So while gaming it's alright but when the sound gets "Loud" it just stops working and I have to plug it again to work which is really irritating.

Any help please? I searched the internet but didn't find anything much useful.
Notes: I have tried different headphones (still same issue)

Today when I switched on my computer it began to start up (barely staying on for five seconds) before switching off and repeating the whole process. It does stay on long enough for me to push either esc or f10 and go into computer set up. However i am not too sure what to configure and how and as soon as i exit out of it, my laptop starts the whole on/off process again.

I am not too sure about the specs of my laptop, only that it is an Hp and has windows xp.
Please, what can i do? I would be forever grateful if someone knows how I can fix this..

A:Laptop switches on, begins to start up, switches off then repeats process

If you can post the model of the HP laptop, we can learn more for you.
You should find the model information on a sticker on the bottom of the machine.

It sounds like ESC or f10 will take you to the BIOS configuration utility.
Have you tried f8? You may need to press repeatedly, or press and hold.
This will take you to the option to boot to Safe Mode.
If this is successful, let us know. If not, let us know.

Next... you obviously have internet access from another computer.
There are two utilities you should download and run.
These utilities will check for errors in 1) your memory and 2) your drive.
Since they run outside of windows, trying to run them will give us a good idea if it is a hardware issue, or if it is a problem with your OS. (the f8 question may leave this an open question, but this will help get a definite answer, in addition to trying to isolate hardware faults)

To Test Memory... Using Memtest Please follow this guide...

Please note that (unless you start getting errors reported) you will need to let this run a long time.
A good way of doing this is to let it run over night. In each 'pass" there are a series of eight memory tests that are run, each more complicated than the previous. We used to advise letting it run a minimum of 7 passes, unless you start getting errors. We now advise at least 10 full passes. If you have errors reported, you may want to re-run the test with only one stick of ram installed, checked each stick until you isolate those that are faulty. That way you can limit your replacement to those that actually need it.

Also, I would like for you to run some hard-drive diagnostics, but I need to know more in order to point you to the right tools to download.
I may or may not be able to find out your drive maker from the model information you supply about your laptop.
Sometimes that information may be found in your Bios (bios sometimes detects it).
I will tell you how to determine your drive maker this way, after you tell me more about your laptop.

If I / we cannot determine the drive maker another way, we may need to have you open your drive bay cover.
Is the machine out of warranty? If not, for you to do this next step would void your warranty.
Are you comfortable opening the machine?
Do you understand the hazards of static electricity and know how to avoid damaging your computer with static?
Depending on your answers, I may have additional steps for you before we have you download your drive diagnostics.

Depends on what context you're talking about. Your statement is a bit "Apples and Gorillas" The two really aren't related to each other.

A:Solved: No Sound - Asus MoBo onboard sound

I'd suspect a faulty audio chipset. The hardware being recognized and the drivers installing aren't an indication that the hardware is actually functional.

With that being said, try a different version of the RealTek drivers. Try using the latest version available from Asus. If those don't work, try the latest version directly from RealTek.

A:ASUS motherboard help

It could be a motherboard problem. If it has told you that it failed both a VGA test and a RAM test, you can assume that it is not those components at fault. Do you have another motherboard to test in it?

You might also try testing the power supply, but I doubt that is the culprit.

Hi, I have a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe and i was wondering if a 20 pin PSU will be ok for it. For now it has an Athlon 64 3700+ 1MB L2 Cache and san diego core, 512 kingston PC3200 and a 2D 8mb PCI Matrox Mystique.

I just need it to run until I get a 24Pin PSU in about a month

Hi, I happened to have an old motherboard lying around, so I decided to make a computer out of it. The problem that arose was that I attached a 12v molex connector to two wires with another connector which leads to these pins that usually you would attach the case power and HDD Light and Power Light. When I did this I booted up and the board would not start. I know I did something wrong, that I fed it 12v, and possibly might have fired it. Any clue to how I could get it running again???

I have a green/white wire, the green is marked with a + and the white a - these are separate connectors. I cannot see where these should be connected. the other are two wires on one and white, blue/white, and two grey wires. some have names where they should go but should they be connected horizontally or vertical.

My original Asus P5ND2-SLI Deluxe doesn't work anymore so I have to replace it. From the beginning I always had issues with the POST and would have to restart from the back of the computer. I'm looking for another MOBO that supports Intel Pentium 4 EE. Looking at other ASUS motherboards I read the same issues with booting. I'm obviously not alone with the previous problems. Does anyone have any other suggestions for good boards that are just solid and consistent? There seems to be a decent ABIT one. I guess I don't want to spend $200 or more on something that's going to give me the same problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think the Asus boards arent completely solid until you buy p5n32 or better, if you pay 100 or so for a board of course not as good quality is put into it. I have the p5n32 sli premium. Its a champ.

A:asus motherboard

Have you chosen the computer case you are going to use yet?

For a home media PC, the one defining factor is available "space". (meaning how large of a computer case are you going to use?)

A smaller case may limit you a Micro ATX or smaller MB, low-profile video/audio card or integrated video/audio, low profile CPU heatsink/fan, etc. A smaller case will also mean a lower power PSU which may also limit your choice of other parts.

A:is there a better motherboard than asus?

It's all a matter of opinion, there is no "better" motherboard. One company's board has several great features and other less great features, missing features etc that other companys board might make up for but yet have it's own flaws also.

You just have to figure out which board has the features that you need and can take advantage of for, also considering the price, compatibility, etc.

I already talked with ASUS tech support, and the motherboard was replaced

Hi all,

Any idea what's the best value RAM for the above board?

It's been a while and a recent game seems to have boned my RAM (or just pointed out the fact it was already boned)

Memtests are failing and the game in question keeps BSOD'ing and crashing to desktop. All was fine before this game... It's an anagram of Fattlebield 3.

I'm thinking 16gig might be required, but I'd like to be sure it's compatible before I purchase.

A:16 GBs of RAM not working on ASUS motherboard

Hello Randomrocket. Welcome to the forum.

I assume you have already checked to be sure all RAM you are trying to use is the same specs as the current RAM, most importantly the voltage spec, but also unbuffered, and the timings should be the same or very close.

That said, the first thing you need to determine is whether it is a bad stick of RAM or a bad RAM socket or a power problem.

The first thing to do is remove the old working RAM and add one stick of new RAM into the first blue slot (A1) and test. Test each new stick in A1.

If that works then install the 2 new sticks in the same locations as the old sticks (the 2 blue slots - A1&B1) and test.

Then, with the two new sticks still in A1 & B1, add one stick of the old RAM into the third slot (black - A2) and test. Then the second old stick in the last slot (black - B2).

Report back what you find.

Recently I upgraded to an ASUS A7V MB with an Athlon 850 chip. I selected "Jumper free" settings, and recently on bootup I have been getting a message sending me to the BIOS saying that my CPU Frequency settings are wrong. It has been set to "USer Define," CPU frequency 100 (It gives the option of setting it as high as 133, but I leave it at 100), and DRAM Freqency 133 (I have 256 MB of PC133).
The motherboard tech people only (wearily) say that this board "often does that." But it does it about every 3d or 4th boot.
I don't understand the multipliers, etc. Should the settings be changed? (I would have to change a jumper to "Jumper mode" to make any further changes.)

I will soon replace my faulty ASUS p8p67 pro mother board with its exact replacement (except for the new on board revision). Has anyone else already done this? If so did you have to do a Win 7 clean install? I am hoping that I will not have to that.

A:ASUS motherboard replacement

I haven't done it, but there should be no need to re-install Windows.

You may have to activate it again, though. Changing the MAC address of the onboard network controller may be enough to trigger that, neglecting any other changes.

A:mx4000 on asus Motherboard?

Your mobo has an AGPx4 slot and will accomodate that new card without any problems.
That card is AGPx8/x4/x2 compatible, so no problems.
Check if there is a jumper on the mobo, or a setting in the BIOS, to switch off the onboard graphics. Some mobos switch it off automatically when you insert an AGP card.
Before you put the card in, uninstall the current graphics drivers and load the most basic, windows-own VGA drivers. Then switch off and do the swap.

My new mobo and its accompanying DVD were working fine with one exception; 2 older cd's (on IDE cable and connector) from my previous computer; which held my dearest programs, were now non- existant. The ASUS cd hinted that another boot program might be the answer. Having been away from computers for 10 years I stupidly embarked on this quest. The result: no boot. Can anyone suggest a cure or a cd (preferably not ASUS), or anything which will help me?
Thank you !

Asus P5QC Motherboard on ebay to check out the price range. I have noticed that
some sellers have some good combo deals on with these boards. Usually their
deals come with Windows 7 and Quad core processors. It is something to
look at but maybe there is an alternative.
Maybe I should look at alternative boards. Is there any other good mother boards
that I should look at? Is there any other venders I should look at for the best
I am looking for an good dependable, somewhat up to date board but not
the latest and greatest.

Thank you,

Do you have the PDF manual from the ASUS website?
If get it here:
On page 43 it shows the location of the connection. Polarity of the switches doesn't matter but for the LED's it does; white wires are "-". All the connections should be straight forward except for the SLP which goes to the SMI connection, and the keyboard connection would not be used.

If you have front audio ports here's how to connect them:

ASUS Brand, it came in a HP Pavilion
Pentium 4 (Not sure what slot)
4 DDR RAM Slots
1 PCI-E x16 Slot
3 PCI Slots
Orange/Yellow in colour.
RAM Slots are Blue, Red, Blue, Red

The reason I need to know is I have no idea how to configure my System Panel Connectors, as I am trying to fit the board into a new case.

Thank you in advance for your help,

I am having a computer built with the Asus A N SLI Motherboard and have done a lot of research I know that I need to replace the chipset fan with the Zalman cnps B-cu cpu cooler but getting confused about the best hard drive in the to G category and memory to have installed Also any suggestions on the AMD processor The computer tech who is building it recommends the AMD A8N Asus Deluxe Motherboard SLI Athlon but I know that the dual core processors are now being offered Because I will probably keep this new computer for at least years the one that I use now is years old - still chuggs along I try to get a computer with top of the line hardware Also he recommends Windows XP Home Asus A8N SLI Deluxe Motherboard but a lot of people state that the only way to go is Xp Pro I ve been researching all of this for weeks and I m starting to feel that I need a brain transplant I would sincerely appreciate any suggestions or comments nbsp

A:Asus A8N SLI Deluxe Motherboard

All right so you are going with the 939! If you really want THE best processor, go either AMD 64 fx57 or 4800 x2. They will both cost you about a $1000.
If you want to stay around the $350 mark, the 90nm 64 3700 is a good choice.
As far as Hard drives go, reccomend a 7200 rpm 8mb cache SATA, if you go Seagate you can even get native command queing! Two of these in a raid 0,1 and you have a OS that runs like you put it on a 20,000 rpm hard drive.(not quite but it is damn fast and safe.)
I would say go for Pro if you won't upgrade to Longhorn, home if you will upgrade. If you want to be safe and don't mind everything not running perfectly everytime. Go SUSE or Redhat Linux.
RAM, don't go generic. PNY, Kingston are good, I can't remember if this board supportd dual channel or not, but if it does make sure you buy in pairs to get the best performance.
Scatter brained approach to helping, sorry but I hope I helped

A:Asus P5K-E / WiFi-AP motherboard

Solid base: Yes. That is a very nice motherboard.

Trouble with assembly: No. Everything you've chosen so far is 100% compatible.

Dual-core better: Not necessarily. There aren't many applications that take advantage of all 4 cores, so if you can find a better price on a dual-core, you might want to consider it. Otherwise the quad-core is a good choice.

Powerbox: The item you're referring to is called a power supply, or PSU for short. The 'rails' refer to the amount of power capable of being distributed at each voltage type used by the computer.

Here's a good example of a nice PSU at a respectable price that is more than powerful enough for most needs:

Please provide more info ...

What did you have before, when your system was working?
Is your case and psu atx compliant?
Does your system work properly when you have successfully booted to windows 98?
Provide as much info as possible, as right now there are just too many variables to draw any reasonable conclusions.

One last thing, if you have made such a significant change to your hardware, then I would hope that you also reinstalled win98 and all your software. Its not a good idea to just use your existing installation.

Hi all,
Im am putting together a machine for a friend to use whos machine died and cant afford a new rig right now. im putting together a 939 system for him from spare parts i have and would welcome any input on two motherboards im deciding between. one is a Asus A8N-LA, chipset GeForce 6150 LE
* Southbridge: nForce 430 (southbridge also called MCP51)
and the second is an Asus A8S-X-SE chipset 965-SL. I am wondering if one is superior, chipset,Bios, overclocking, reliability, northbridge etc. I know the A8N-LA has most bios features locked (HP saving me from myself) but if you have any experience with these, or an opinion I would love to here them.

A:Asus Motherboard expert?

The A8S is an SiS chipset. SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems, incidentally) is absolute garbage. HP can't make an AMD based system worth the powder to blow it to hell. Every HP system built around AMD that I've ever seen or had the displeasure to work with is a dog.

However.. If you're forced to choose strictly between the two, the A8N is a better board. Personally I'd scrap both of them.
