Vertical line crash

Q: Vertical line crash

I have been playing wow for a few months and am now having a pretty serious issue. A few days ago i hopped on to play and the computer randomly shut itself off. That problem repeated itself every time i would play it along with blue screens. I reformatted my computer afterwards and it is running much faster with no crashes or blue screens anywhere else. But now when i try to play WoW i get a weird crash that involves my screen being covered in multi-colored vertical lines and an extremely horrid sound. This forces me to hard reboot. If i reboot too soon after the crash my system start up and all the text is a green color and the system fails to start. Any help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Problem: Annoying gray vertical line/restart (various colored vertical lines suddenly appear and then the system restarts) OR BSoD which can be counted on to occur VERY often. The gray vertical line issue has been widely reported by other ATI 5XXX owners. I ruled out this problem by first trying all of the proposed tweaks in that thread, and finally by replacing my Radeon by an old nVidia... the crash persists but manifests itself as only a BSoD and not vertical line crash (I assume the difference here is just the same crash but different expressions of it because of the vid card switch).
*Memtest86+ v4.00 ran overnight (12hrs) with 0 errors.
*Prime95 crashes for small FFT's, in place large FFT's, and Blend. At first it gave me the Fatal Error: rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4. I manually set the ram to 400 frequency and 5-5-5-15 with 2.0 volts (the specs recommended). The rounding error goes away but the system still crashes (either lines or BSoD) before 15 minutes pass.

Hi and welcome

Bunch of BSOD's you have here. they are virtaully identical. they all ppoint to the same thing. This type of crash can be caused by the following.

Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

Now since you have rum memtestx86 is it passed, we may have to start looking at the other vaiables.

How much ram do you have?

I would just try prime 95 with only one ram stick it.

you could also run a system file check
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow.

the next step is to run driver verifier.
Make sure you have a current backup and a win 7 dvd in case you cant get back into the system.

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.

I am using this Laptop for my Home & all the functionality is working properly but this line will not go. I am now fully tensed after this because I have already spent 30,000 for this.
Please clarify me in this regard. How to overcome this problem ?
If any body knows any Sahara Laptop Service center in Bangalore?

A:LCD vertical line

I'm not sure exactly what that is. Do you mean there's a line there when its turned on only, or is it always there, even when shut off?

If its there when it's shut off then it sounds like a pressure crack on the screen to me. Hopefully its not that. I had a nasty on one my Sidekick 2 once. x.x

But even if it is, if its a not interfering with the picture try to disregard it. That's all I can say.

I need help..

I bought a 15 inch NEC lcd about a month ago and have been using it without any problems. Just this morning a red vertical line appeared about 7/8ths of an inch from the left. I have the latest driver with windows xp. The line doesn't seem to actually be on the desktop and it overlaps everything. I've also tried resetting the monitor configurations. Does anyone have any idea of how to get rid of the red line?

A:NEC vertical line

IT seems that Part of your LCD monitor is not functioning Correctly. Under Normal Circumstances your monitor maybe do a POST ( power on self Test ) and the line is Initated that way. You may want to try Booting into Safe Mode and DOS prompt to see if the line goes away. If its does Its mostlikely a driver issue. If not then its the monitor and you should return it. Also try hooking up another monitor to it just to see if you have the same prob. JFYI you have Display adapters and Monitor Drivers make sure you have both up to date.

The screen's cable is most propably damaged. Just to confirm that the fault is in the monitor, post a screenshot from a time where the line appears... Replacing the cable will not be the simplest job, I assume, but will be quite an easy fix...

If there is a warranty or Guarantee in place for the item then dont try to fix it, you can void any warranty, take it back again and again until you get a working system or until you get your money back.

Alright, I have a Toshiba notebook and the other day a vertical, thin, purple line appeared on the the right hand side of my display. I didn't drop my notebook or damage it in any way, no over clocking of any sort ether. It doesn't show on screen shot and when hooked up to an external monitor it works like a charm. I would like to know if the problem is fixable because my warranty is void. I am surprised this has happened because the laptop is only about a year and a half old. Thank you for your assistance.

A:Vertical Purple Line

That Purple Line is a dead or stuck pixel it could have been your Graphics Card but since it worked alright in a External Monitor it indicates the LCD Screen is faulty, this means you need to replace the LCD Screen. I'm not quite sure how to take them off or fix them back on but someone on here maybe able to help a bit better with that.

You could try looking on Ebay for your Toshiba Laptop Model, they sell laptops that may have 1 part not working (they will indicate what is not working) but will be a cheap option for your LCD Screen as well as other spare parts for your laptop compared to buying the Screen on its own here is an example -

Note: Symptom is similar to one described in earlier note by SJackman.
There are small vertical line grids around desktop icons and the cursor on my display. Also, video shown on Microsoft Media player shows larger (longer and thicker) vertical lines over the images. (The video otherwise plays normally.) The lines do not appear on my desktop background or around the little icons on the Windows taskbar. As I type this note, I can see small vertical grids below my cursor pointer, but not elsewhere on the screen. Other than the vertical lines, my PC's functions seem normal.
Only recent install that I recall, other than Microsoft upgrades, is a Flash uninstall/install. I have Windows XP and a Dell 8300 PC.
I would welcome any suggestions.

Hi Tech Support,

I have a red pixelated vertical line that started growing yesterday. It is one third of the way horizontally on my desk top. It extends into my lower menu bar and was just halfway up my screen yesterday. Today it is bolder and goes almost completely the entire way up. I have tried rebooting and virus scans with no luck. The computer is several years old and in constant use, so I imagine something has "bit-the-dust." Thx

This could be an issue with your video cable to the monitor (make sure it is secure).

It could also be an indicator that the monitor or video card has issues. Can you hook the monitor to another pc, and try a different monitor on your pc?

A:Red Vertical Line Disappears When Pressed Then Re-...

The problem is something called a column driver. There is a connection to every column of pixels on your screen. If you have a wxga screen, there are 1280 of them. The connection is made by a strip of tape with contacts, that is held against the back of the panel by the adhesive between the contacts. Sometimes, the tape works its way loose due to age or vibration. It can be strained through incorrect routing of cables, etc during assembly or repair. It can also come loose if the screen is hit or strained. The "fix" is to replace the screen. If it is under warranty, I suggest calling Lenovo.

A:green vertical line on monitor

Make sure that the cable is connected properly on the back of the monitor and the video card. Then try to go to the system BIOS of the PC to see if the green line is apparent. If that is the case the problem is not the video driver. Then try to run the monitor self test to see if the green line will show up. Look for instructions on your manual. If the green line is showing up on the self-test then you have a monitor issue and it needs to be replaced otherwise it is a video card problem and needs to be replaced.

SOM29 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about a vertical blue line on your display and wanted to help. It's highly unlikely that this is a driver issue, and much more likely that this is either a failing display, or a failing video chipset, or both -- and both of these last two are very expensive to fix, likely more than simply replacing the laptop. A way to see if it IS the video driver is to boot into safe mode -- in which case, the special video drivers would then NOT be working: Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Hello everyone!

A couple days ago, my LCD monitor has been showing a pink vertical line towards the right side of the screen. This is rather annoying. Whenever this is present and I turn off the monitor & turn it back on, it fails to find the video source and goes to sleep mode. I attached a picture of my issue to this thread.

This pink line doesn't appear immediately. It usually shows up after about 5-15 minutes of computer use, and very rarely disappears on its own. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Vertical Pink Line on LCD Monitor

Hook another computer up to it to test.

If same pink line shows up, then you know the LCD is failing.

If the pink line doesn't show up, then you know it's an issue with your GPU (either drivers, or hardware failure).

I started seeing a very thin (1 or 2 pixels) vertical red line directly in the center of the Flash Player window about 6 weeks ago and I have been unable to fix it.  The red line does not appear when I am watching videos in VLC Media Player, and it does not occur in all Flash Player videos, but it does appear in most of them.  I rolled my driver back from 16.300.2311.0 to 16.150.2401.1002 and it was still occurring,  So I reinstalled the current version of the driver and chipset.  I'm using the Radeon Crimson software, AMD Radeon R7 Graphics, on a Windows 10 64 bit OS, with an AMD A10-7850K  processor.  Can someone please provide me with the steps to get rid of this vertical line?  Thanks very much.

A:Vertical Line on Monitor display?

Well the first thing is that since it's new it's under warranty so you'll probably be sending or taking it back. Since it shows the same problem on two machines I'd bet on it.

The only other thing I can suggest is to make sure you're running it in it's native resolution and refresh rate.

If you can it would be useful to connect the netbook to an external monitor. If it is no longer present (and I think it won't be but , then the problem is with the laptop screen. It is possible that it could also be the connection from the netbook MB to the screen.

I was hoping someone could help me, I litterally just took my brand new HP All in One 21-3140 out of the box and the display as it was first starting up looked great and then it performed an update and now on the right hand side of my screen I have a white dotted line going down it. I have tried rebooting my computer and pulling the power cord out along with the connections for the wireless keyboard and mouse and cannot seem to get rid of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hopefully someone who is familiar with it will also respond, but will look at screenshot and see what I can find out if they don't.

A:Black screen/vertical line freeze!

Well, yes, heat kills hardware. However, if that projector had been so hot, your laptop would have at least restarted, if not turned off, in order to save itself from potential damage from the heat.
There are some programs for monitoring your laptop temperatures, you can use them to check if the problem occurs because of overheating (SpeedFan and Core Temp).

If the problem has something to do with your drivers and the restore point is before you have updated for example your Display Driver, then you could first try running in safe mode and see if the problem still occurs. If no, restore your system, it won't delete any files, it will only return your registry and drivers to earlier state.

That you are out of warranty shouldn't stop you from taking your laptop for diagnostics. You will have to have money of course, but at least they will fix the problem ; )

On my Dell Studio 1749 a vertical white line has appeared about 3 inches in from the left hand side.  It started off about 1mm wide but is gradually increasing in width and is now about 4mm wide.  There is no problem on an external monitor when connected.
Is this likely to be a fault with the panel or a chip problem?
Thank you.

A:Vertical white line appeared on display.

Hi  Ian,
This could be an issue with the LCD. To isolate the issue follow below steps:

Check if the vertical lines appear in BIOS screen (Restart the computer and tap F2 on Dell logo).
Also restart the computer and check the display in Safe mode (Restart the computer and press F8 on Dell logo and select Safe mode)
Run the diagnostics on the computer (Restart the computer by holding the” D” and power button and wait till the LCD test completes) and let me know the test result for LCD.

A:Vertical white line on the laptop screen

Hey Patrizia,Welcome to the HP Forums! The first steps that you should attempt is to make sure that the vertical white lines do not appear in the BIOS. To do this I have included the steps below.1. Turn off your computer2. Make sure you have connected the power cable3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the  F10 button repeatedlyOnce you are in the BIOS, if the lines are still present, it is likely a hardware failure. The next two steps may resolve the issue. The first one is to do a hard reset. I have included the document 'Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset'. The next and final step is to perform a BIOS update. I have included the information here for you 'Updating the BIOS'.Let me know if the issue does not appear in the BIOS.Hope this helps!

Whenever the computer starts up, it will work for a few brief seconds before the computer seems to pick up each individual color on the screen and make them into vertical lines. And, more recently, the computer will shut down automatically once they have been displayed for a few moments. My knowledge of how to fix this is limited to taking out the battery repeatedly.

It could possibly be due to a faulty data cable and at worst the screen itself. Only solution would be to have it serviced by a Lenovo technician as it is most likely hardware related.

I have an odd issue. My Dell Inspiron 8200 notebook (with 15" UXGA screen) has recently started showing a very thin single red line roughly 1.5" from the right-hand corner. But it isn't always there. It used to appear for a few seconds at a time and when I wiggled the screen a little bit, it would disappear. Then last week it came on and stayed on. Now it does it intermittently again (about 80% of the time).

What is going on? I hope there aren't any dead pixles as that would kill me. Besides, if there were, wouldn't it permanently stay that way?

What can I do? My warranty ran out months ago. PLEASE HELP!

When playing League of Legends computer screen goes like this at random times. And for few more seconds sounds in background still working but they start looping then. And only way to use computer again is to restart at this time.

Here is list of crashes. (All crashes in the list are about this problem but when I try older graphic card drivers, error codes and names are changing.)

There is no overheating issue I think because after 20 minutes in FurMark it reaches to 86 degree but no crash or something like that.

On my 3 year old laptop (HP dvEnvy7), a very thin line of black pixels has showed up. The first time it showed up was on the red background login screen, and I think tapping the monitor made it go away, but that might've been coincidence. I just noticed it again in the same place where the color of the screen is green. I was running an MBAM scan while that showed up and the line went away, again I don't know whether that was coincidence. I've read that this problem could be caused "by the traces going bad in the video cable going from the LCD the the main board" due to the laptop lid opening and closing. The lid is getting a bit loose. Is this the answer or could there be something more malicious, as my paranoia comes back to haunt me?

A:Thin black/dead vertical pixel line

If it's a single pixel width from edge to edge, it will almost certainly be a fault inside the LCD panel itself. Individual pixel drive signals are not carried on the LVDS cable connecting the panel to the mainboard, as that would require thousands of individual conductors. So a "hard fault" such as a complete black column or line is usually due to a bad connection in a heat bonded loom inside the panel, or an intermittent line or column driver IC which are also integrated into the bonded loom matrix inside the panel. Pressing or tapping the screen/frame can commonly make the symptom come and go in its early phases.
With that said, odd line-like faults can be a result of poor contact on the LVDS cable connector(s), and dismantling enough to gain access to this and cleaning the contacts with alcohol can solve it.

Hi there
If you are using an external TV type of monitor go into the menu of the Monitor -- usually via a remote controller etc. Somewhere in the Video / picture setups you should see an option like auto adjust picture / size or something like that -- then the image should fit the screen perfectly.

(Assuming of course that you have set the resolution (in the PC settings) of the monitor to one it can handle).

The only way to permanently solve the problem is to replace the LCD -- if the system is under warranty, contact Dell and they'll do that for you. If it's not, the screen you depends upon whether it's a standard LCD (about $50-100) or a touchscreen (requires the complete assembly;  about $200).

I've connected my laptop into the monitor and the line persists, it's probably a screen problem, but I wonder if there's anything to try on my part.also the mouse pointer covers that blue line but I guess that's only because my pointer is white and that line does not appear in the dark pixels.

any help would be appreciated.thanks

Hey all. I have a 5 yr. old HP Pavilion dv6t 3200 CTO Laptop. I have had a 1/4 " white vertical line on the right side on my display for awhile now. It is there all the time, even in safe mode, even when I run computer error scan.( Black Screen with white line still) The pointer will disappear under the white line when trying to scroll making this difficult. I have used HDMI cable to my TV and the display on it shows no white line. I then assume that it is either the screen or the display cable. I would have to open it up either way, but was wondering if there is a way to figure out which is the culprit ? Or just go for a new screen, just do not want to open it and replace screen to find out cable is bad. Any ideas ? Thanks

I believe the HP Pavilion dv6t 3200 has integrated graphics, meaning the graphics are soldered to the motherboard.
It is possible that it is the screen, but personally i think it could be the graphics chip. You mentioned that when you connect to an external display the "white line" is no longer visible.

You refer to the cable possibly being the problem are you referring to the HDMI cable or the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard?

If you are talking about the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard, the cable is soldered to the screen therefore if it is the cable a new screen will be needed. Can you take a picture of the line you are seeing please as this will help me diagnose the problem.

Hello Everytime I print a photo that nearly side C460W? one white vertical line/blur on o Xpress Samsung covers the entire page a white-ish grey-ish line is present The line is blurry and not even I Samsung Xpress C460W? vertical white line/blur on one side o have tried all the service features on the printer s LCD menu like cleaning calibrate print test pages etc but nothing has helped I am not sure but I think this problem started after I printed some self-adhesive labels that apparently were meant for inkjet printers and not laser I did not have the paper s retail packaging so I did not know I thought maybe somehow one of the Samsung Xpress C460W? vertical white line/blur on one side o toners got damaged The store I purchased it will cover hardware issues as the printer is still under warranty but they say if it turns out it was one of the toners that was the problem and not the printer itself I will be charged a fee I have exchanged the black toner and that did nothing I can t Samsung Xpress C460W? vertical white line/blur on one side o really afford to replace all the color toners right now just to see if this is a toner issue or not I am inserting an image at the end of this which is a scanned printout where the line is fully visible The print looks worse after I scanned it for some reason it does not look that bad in reality it s really darker but you get the idea Let me know if you have any ideas of what the problem might be and how to fix it Thanks nbsp

Hi. I'm not sure if anyone can help me or not really...
I was using my laptop today (Acer Aspire 3050) when suddenly it crashed. Blue and white lines (about 1cm or so each) appeared on the screen, right across it - that was all that was on the screen. The only solution was to turn the laptop off and reboot. When I rebooted it was fine.
This isn't the first time its happened and I'm not sure whats causing it. If anyone could give me any insight into whats up with my laptop it would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance,

A:Computer crash... vertical lines appear.

Often its a graphics issue.
Try reinstalling your drivers.
Its also possible that your psu may be failing and not supplying the correct voltage to the gfx card.

Hey guys this is my first post I m new here as a member but in the past for years I ve always googled help for my computer problems and this site was often my only answer Now that I have a question that there are no known answers for on the internet in all my searches tonight I m writing my first post so let s get down to it I just got Civ for Game Crash Blue Lines and Vertical the PC and was playing it fine for hours I did campaign and got so far into it that I was bored because I was the only one on Game Crash and Blue Vertical Lines my little island and decided to start a new game When I started the second one this is where it went bad Both campaigns I did the exact same options except for one On the first round I chose comps and whatever the default city-states are - game ran fine Second game I chose the Huge Map option - which is like comps I think and again whatever default city-states I dont think C-Ss matter but mentioned anyway That s the only thing I did different So the game s loading Hiawatha s Iroquios leader screen just like the first game but when it says Play Game once it s done loading the game crashes to desktop and says it stopped working This happened twice as I tried to play the same options again and the game crashed again The third time it actually loaded and my settler and warrior were there and all of a sudden the screen gets this little dashed grainy lines going across the screen The computer freezes and TM wont come up had to hard boot I looked all over the internet after this and found stories like this one but had to do with different OS s nothing with PC games and not with my type of graphics card Now after uninstalling drivers from device manager and reinstalling them twice while upgrading windows to SP in between those two uninstall-reinstalls there s now just vertical blue lines in columns across my screen The game it says is unavailable at the moment when I try to play it and in device manager it shows my NVIDIA GeForce GTX with an exclamation point and when I go into it Device Status says this quot Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems Code Click Check for solutions to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available quot Downloaded the newest drivers through Check solutions and then manually went to NVIDIA s website and found one driver windows didn t find Installed that still nothing I assume I have a fried graphics card because it was pretty hot when I checked it after this Checked the cables they re all in If anyone could help me out that would be great I did restart in Safe Mode at one point and the lines were still there if that makes a difference Thanks for the help nbsp

Hi everyone,
Recently my laptop has been crashing. Basically the screen will fill with black and blue vertical lines and the the laptop seems to be completely unresponsive to anything. I believe it may have something to do with the graphics driver as I have been having trouble with that recently as well. Namely it was stopping windows from starting up. So I had to remove it and the reinstall it after I got windows to boot further then the repair screen.
But back to the problem at hand. The laptop seems to run fine in safe mode and will run an unpredictable time in normal mode before throwing up these lines. I have removed the driver but them I am stuck with a very low resolution and graphics run very slow.

Laptop specs:

Model: HP Pavilion DV5-1000
OP: Windows 7
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 3200
