USB ports not working

Q: USB ports not working

I have tried many different usb sticks and external hard drives that just dont seem to work with my computer. once i connect the device it loads up fine. the problem begins when i transfer data from my cpu to the usb storage. the transfer stops and i usually get an error balloon pop up in the bottom right corner saying that my usb device has malfunctioned and the connect usb device from my computer dissappears. my devices are fine since they work fine on my other computers and transfer files with no problem. So im assuming the problem is the usb ports of this computer. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers of usb ports from device manager but didnt help. any suggestions? oh and i have a Acer Aspire x1700.

Preferred Solution: USB ports not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: USB ports not working

The next things I'd try are:

1. "Disable" then "Enable" the USB Devices in Device Manager (different than uninstall and install)

2. Clean out all the ports with canned air

3. Open PC (I assume no responsibility if you damage your system or void your warranty) case and check that all associated wires and plugs are secure (I'd disconnect the connectors and blast them out with air, too).

4. While the PC is open, check to see if all of your usb ports are on the same card/slot (if they are, and none are working, then I'd suspect hardware; if you have ports on different cards that aren't working, I'd lean more toward software/driver issues).

I hope this helps a little! Good luck!

Vista Ultimate -bit ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports Two things Back ports working, partially ethernet) working front ports stopped (USB, happened Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted Windows Update Back ports (USB, ethernet) stopped working, front ports partially working had some updates ready although I m not sure if it updated I turned off my PC for a couple of hours turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front where it worked However my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously When it finished both keyboard and mouse worked although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the quot drivers for your device could not be installed quot When I clicked quot OK quot the mouse stopped working again I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized so it does not appear to be a hardware issue nbsp

This is a brand new custom built PC for web browsing for a motel lobby.

Win7 Home Premium
AMD A4-3300 Llano
MSI A55M-P33 FM1
Rosewill FBM-02 MicroATX Mini Tower

Running latest BIOS and latest drivers downloaded directly from manufacturer's website.

I tried switching between all 3 internal headers and none of them would detect the flash drive.

If I plug the drive in the rear ports it detects right away leading me to suspect the case's ports might be defective but I don't have another USB 2.0 card lying around to confirm.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

A:Front USB ports not working, but rear USB ports work…

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

Hey guys, brand new kid here. Fairly computer literate but not a whiz by any means. I had to do a Windows XP System Recovery on my HP desktop PC a few weeks ago and since then my USB 2.0 ports haven't been themselves.

Before when I used my Kingston 4gb SDHC card in my front USB 2.0 ports (as they're labeled) it worked at full speed with no problems. After the System Recovery, when I plug in the card it gives me a message saying "This device could perform faster if it were plugged into a High Speed USB 2.0 Port." The problem is, my Device Manager lists a high speed port and hub on my computer, but I get the same message on all the ports on my computer. I tried updating the drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling them but to no avail.

Is there any way to fix this?

Hey
Today i just bought some ear phones, with a connected mouth piece. Problem is that my two front ports are dodgy for the microphone and headphones. So if i put the jacks from my headset into the back, i have to take out my speaker input.. Is there any way i can have the speakers in, and the headset and revert back to each without going at the back and changing them? Any help appreciated
Thanks

A:Headset not working, front ports not working

First, its possible inside your computer case, there is just a loose cable that is causing the problem with the front jacks on your computer. Check inside, right behind where the earphone jack is for a cord running to somewhere on your motherboard or Sound card.

If that dosn't work,
Do you have a CD/DVD player with a earphone jack and have you tried that?
Assuming its the port that is bad itself and not just loose, you could check in at radio shack, bestbuy, or newegg.com for a cord that splits the output. If you get lucky you might find one with a chanel select that will allow you to swap which recieves the output.
The other option, from radio shack I got a Bluetooth USB adapter for $20 and a good pair of BT earphones, again purchased online for cheap (I recommend samsung BT500 earphones).

Another alternative, my speakers have a earphone jack in them as well (the computer speakers, as well as the reciever I currently have my sound card plugged into).

If you have a quality home theater set up, for $80 on new egg you can pick up a good soundcard with optical, Coax, and AV out which you plug into your home entertainment center that again will allow you to use headphones.
Good Luck

Some of my USB ports does not work, the front two isn't working, and only a few in the back works ( i have a desktop not a laptop). When i plug in my Xbox 360 controller the lights would turn green on the Xbox home button but then it would immediately turn off again. I doubt it's disconnected because this problem occured randomly when i never opened my desktop, except for the 2 in the front. I found this error and i think it has something to do with it just because it mentions USB . It says that window has stopped using this device because it reported a problem "error code 43". I know the front usb ports are probably disconnected but i'm just trying to fix the one in the back, because it has more then enough which is 5, but only 3 is working.. the other 2 isn't. Any help would be appreciated.

"Working" and "not working" doesn't really help here. Troubleshooting network problems go beyond yes/no troubleshooting steps.

Can you provide some diagnostic data?

Can you ping the default gateway?
Are you getting a DHCP address?
Is this a DNS resolution issue?

I just bought a new Kingston Ultimate 32 GB USB 3.0 flash drive. It works fine in my 2.0 ports but will only light up in the 3.0 ports and Windows 7 64 bit does not see it. I have enabled the USB 3.0 ports in my BIOS and I have got the latest NEC USB 3.0 driver for my MSI P55-GD85 motherboard. The driver does not install correctly and in Device Manger under Storage Controllers I get ACS-6XXX pop up with a yellow caution flag when I do install it. I have tried other drivers as well, but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A:USB 3.0 Ports Not Working

All right my ASUS board did the same thing.

The ACS-6xxx will have to be hidden in Windows Updates. Otherwise it willl continue to install it messing up the right driver.

Give me a couple of minutes.

This is drawn out but necessary. Go to Start> Control panel> Windows Update.
Then as in left picture click Change settings.
Then as in right picture change the drop down curtain to read as mine does. This will keep the ACS-6xxx from reinstalling after we get rid of it.

By the way you have no ACS brand hardware on your motherboard but neither do I.

That is step one.
Step 2 to come- deleting the ACS-6xxx drivers unless you already know how to do that.

Go into Device manager find all the yellow caution ACS-6xxx right click on each ACS-6xxx individually and left click delete. Rid yourself of each one individually.

Then go to MSI and get the drivers for your board. I think this is the right mother board below but double check.
NEC USB3.0 Drivers Ver: 2.0.4.0 should be the right one.

So my CD-ROM doesn't want these installation discs for a wireless adaptor or a drawing tablet I just bought. I currently don't have Internet connection on my desktop so I can't go online and download them. Whenever I plug either of them in any USB port it shows that they are being installed for 3 seconds but then they go away and nothing happens so I can't use either one. The USB ports seem to work for my mouse and keyboard though.

They were working fine last night, I was charging my Ipod. Unplugged it, and later tried to use a flash drive. Neither of the ports would work. No messages even pop up. I disabled and then enabled all ports. Nothing. I uninstalled all USB drivers and turned computer off. Took out battery for about 10 minutes, turned computer back on, and it automatically installed all drivers for USBs. Phone cord USB does nothing. Laptop can tell sometimes when I plug in my Ipod, but all it does it ding (plugged in) then ding (unplugged). I ran a virus check. Nothing. Just installed 3 Windows updates.

A:All USB ports not working.

With a device plugged into the USB port, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager are there any devices with Yellow flags? Or under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Unplug the USB cable from the computer end.
What is the make and model # of your computer/motherboard? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site. type in your make and model# and download the Chipset Driver for your model.
Go to Start/Run and typed SFC /scannow and press enter. Put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing files from the CD.
When that is done plug in your USB device into the Back USB port of the computer. You should get the new hardware wizard.

I have an Ei 204-UK pc, when I bought the pc everything worked fine. Recently my computer broke and I've had to get Windows XP reinstalled, and now none of the USB 2.0 ports are working. I've searched around and it tells you to go into the device manager and delete all of the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, but there are none showing.

Can anyone help?

A:USB ports are not working.

You post that you reinstalled windows; did you install your chipset drivers?

As a general rule, you install in this order;
1 Install os
2 Update to latest service pack. For xp sp3
3 Install chipset/mb drivers
4 Install sound, nic, drivers as necessary
5 Install video driver

Now make an image of the system as a clean install. If you ever need to reinstall again, it takes all of 5~10min to restore the image.

Now do windows update and install ALL critical updates.

Hi I just joined here becuase my Dell Windows XP Computer's USB Ports at the front aren't working The ones in the bac are working just fine am a newb here so I don't know what anything is called so please don't flame You know how every USB Port has a little thing in it It only has one of them Then there's another one in the cord you plug in only it's on the opposite side It's inside the metal at the end of the tip of the cord Anyways one of those things from my computer got stuck USB Ports not working in one of my USB Cords so there was none in the USB place on the front of the computer I got the piece out with a knife I think But now when I go to put ANY USB cord in it doesn't do anything There's USB places on the front of the computer One is perfectly normal like there's the normal thing inside it The other one doesn't have the little thing and I can't even fit any USB cord into it I think that USB place is making the other one not work because when I try to put the cord in the normal one it fits but it still doesn't recognize anything If anyone can tell me what these things are called and tell me what to do that would be great Also if you don't understand what I mean I can take pictures of it

hello & welcome to TSF

what has happened is that the connectors in the female part of the usb port has broken off

now it is useless

since they work off of the same cable inside your pc the other one won't work either

what you neeed to do is order a new set up for those front ports from the manufactor of the pc or go (http://www.tigerdirect.com) and look to see if they carry that part , it may be a factory part only !!! you may have to get an exspansion kit to have external one that connect to the back to have that luxgury back

Do you have a windows 7 boot disc. Such as an OEM windows 7 disc, or a recovery CD for the computer. (No I am not telling you to restore the unit!!)

Have a desktop Acer Aspire model M and running windows Power supplied is watts Upon boot got a black screen message saying quot warning keyboard not found quot In addition a BSOD message indicated that the quot usb drivers were not found quot Prior to these messages the computer was fine except the usb ports in rear in front sometimes worked and other times not When they didn t work I would restart the computer If that didn t work I would go into the device manager and check to see any yellow highlighted next to a driver etc If I didn t find any I would shut down computer then unplug power source and open the case I would check if anything looked peculiar USB working not ports such USB ports not working as a loose usb hub or connector then look inside the usb ports if any of the pins looked loose or mis-aligned What I found was the following One usb port behind the computer had two pins that were shorter than the other two Because of this my theory was that there wasn t a good connection between the usb cable for the keyboard and that usb port For the usb port in the front of the computer the same USB ports not working problem was visible like the rear usb port but this port was for the usb cable for the mouse What I did for both usb ports was use a fine twizzer tool to pull the pins forward and after doing so those pins were aligned with the other two pins that weren t mis-aligned My other curiosity was why the other three usb ports behind the computer weren t working after testing them with both the keyboard and mouse usb cables These ports looked fine unlike the other two with the pin issue Finally I put the computer case USB ports not working back into place and plugged in the usb cables from the keyboard mouse audio speakers printer and wifi adapter Plugged in the power cord into the power outlet on the wall and turned on the computer Miraculously I didn t get any of the previous error messages upon boot and I saw that both the keyboard and mouse were getting power from the usb ports they were connected to Then the computer loaded the windows desktop and voila things seemed to run normally as before this problem occurred Should this problem present itself again is there anything I could do different For now I won t fix anything if it ain t broken but do you think my usb hubs are going bad or something else My other question as a beginner novice on hardware issues is this Can a usb hub attached to the motherboard be replaced without having to replace the entire motherboard It seems as though if a hard drive or graphics card go bad they can be replaced without replacing the entire motherboard in some cases Thank you for reading and I look forward to any replies with much appreciation nbsp

At Christmas time, I recieved a MS Wireless Laser Desktop 6000. I retired my old stock PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse. Recently I decided to get out my PS/2 Cuecat. I cant get it to work, nor can I get my old Keyboard or Mouse to work. I have restarted the computer to no avail. Also in doing this I get a no keyboard error upon startup. My USB keyboard works in the BIOS and I cannot find a setting. I have a HP Vectra VL420 Desktop PC runnin Win XP home.

I was given a toshiba satellite a15-s1292 when I got home and turned it on I found out some had tried to install a pirated copy of xp pro on it. I decided to make a backup of the drivers on my thumb drive so I could reinstall the proper os but the usb ports do not work. In device manager they are enabled and working properly.
So my question is what is causing them to not work? Is it a driver issue or is it a physical issue? What can I do to find out?

All my usb ports stopped working. I reinstalled the drivers and the system says they are 'working fine' yet they aren't. Updated bios, reinstalled root hubs, no change. I have a ASUS p4p800 mboard running win xp home. ASUS dude said to reinstall OS but I can't without wiping the drive. Any thoughts?

A:USB ports not working

I suggest you do as the Asus guy said. Backup your important data and reformat and reinstall the OS. If that doesn`t help, It`s probably the mobo that`s faulty.

I don't think there is an easy answer to this problem, its a Dell desktop and after a power cut non of the usb ports are working therefore my keyboard and mouse aren't working either, There are no ps/2 ports to use instead, it was booting into windows but with all the repeated turning off it now boots to a screen giving me a choice of boot up modes neither of which I can choose therefore it just sits there and goes no further. I fitted a PCI card with 4 x usb ports on it but of course it can't load the software for that therefore it won't recognise the keyboard/mouse. its a bit of a catch 22 situation.
Has anyone any suggestions, other than changing the mobo as that's not going to be cheap as its a Dell?

Try uninstalling all the "USB Root Hubs" in Device Manager (right-click >> Uninstall), then restart Windows to re-install them automatically.

Note: Do not uninstall any of the Host Controllers, just the root hubs.

So i kept getting a pop up saying one of my usb ports was malfunctioning. I restarted my computer and now my usb ports that are in the back of my desktop are not working. They arent even showing up in my manager. The two in the front of my desktop are showing up but those dont work either. The good news is that i have access to my computer because i run teamviewer and can control that pc from my laptop. Ive tried uninstalling everything in my USB controllers and restarting it comes back with the same two USB root hus which im assuming are the two in the front. If someone would be willing to i could get them connected to the pc using teamviewer to fix this issue.

USB ports are native to the MB. If they do not show in device manager, the MB is bad. Replace MB is only option.

My USB ports are not working. I am running windows 2000 on a Sony Vaio. When I plug a device in the computer does not recognize it, but will draw power from the port. I have tried uninstalling the drivers, but when I try it usually just freezes up the device manager and I get an error message saying that the device manager is not responding. Which after closing the device manager I cannot open it again unless I reboot the computer. There are no "!" or "?" listed by any device and it says that my devices are working properly and that I am running the most recent drivers. What am I doing wrong?

I am working on a friends laptop, a Dell Inspiron 9200 running Windows XP Pro with SP3. I have it working well now except the USB ports do not work.

The laptop was in pretty bad shape when I started. I remove Norton Antivirus (subscription expired 3 years ago), removed a few trojans and viruses using Malwarebytes and Combofix, and installed AVG Free. I also cleaned up the temp files, compacted the registry using NTRegOpt, and defragmented the drive.

I have tried uninstalling the USB controllers and let Windows reinstall them, verified working status in Device manager, and disabled USB device power management. I also plugged in a USB mouse and verified the ports are supplying power.

I should add that the USB ports did not work before any of the above, but I know they worked two years ago. Ideas?

I recently added a 512mb stick of RAM to a computer running XP. Immediately following, (perhaps by coincidence) none of the devices plugged into the USB ports are recognized. I tried two different devices, an HP Photosmart printer and a flash drive into multiple USB ports and none of them were recognized.

The new stick of RAM is posting, so I know the addition of the RAM may not necessarily be the problem. I have the most current drivers installed for the printer, so I know this is not the issue.

I read on another forum http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-vista-support/218291-usb-s-stop-working-when-i-install-more-ram.html
where a user reported having exactly the same problem while they were running Vista. The solution was to delete said corrupted USB files, reinstall the RAM and then plug the devices back in...

Does anyone have any insight into how to do this?

A:USB Ports Not Working/New RAM the Cause?

I agree the ram most likely did not cause the problem.

Check device mgr for any yellow marks. If everything looks normal, you can try this reg fix for usb problems. Note make a restore point before you begin this task. The following is a fix posted by John Will [another mod]

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG

-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"

-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

Last night I was transferring some files from my laptop to my external Working Not Ports USB hard drive and everything was working fine but then a couple hours later I went to plug in some rechargeable USB batteries that I have and noticed that they weren't lighting up I then tried plugging in several of my other USB devices but none of them were connecting either Also I was transferring the USB Ports Not Working files between my Xbox and updating my Ipod at the same time so I was connecting and disconnecting a lot of times over that short period of time and I'm not sure if that might be an issues I've tried several other solutions after Googling the issue but none of them have worked so far Here's a brief summary of what I've tried - Restarting the computer However I did notice that if I plug in the batteries after restarting the computer they do light up for a split second and then instantly fade away - Turning off the computer and disconnecting all power sources and re-starting - Checking device manager and checking for driver updates and re-installing the USB controllers It said that they were up to date and there are no exclamation points beside any of the controllers - Running the sfc scannow tool I USB Ports Not Working didn't find any integrity violations - Doing a system restore back to a couple days ago when they were working fine - I ran a full virus scan USB Ports Not Working with Microsoft security essentials and it didn't find anything - The only thing that has even remotely given an inclination of an error is this fix it tool I downloaded from microsoft support and it says quot Hardware changes might not have been detected Windows Update configured to never install drivers quot and quot Change Windows Update settings - Not Run quot but when I check my device installation settings the automatic update option is ticked and when I manually check for updates it says they are up to date So maybe I do have a virus or malware I'm just not sure Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

Hi. So a while ago, 2 out of 3 USB ports on my Notebook stopped working. There are 2 USB ports on the left and one on the right. The one on the right is the only one that still works. I decided to run a HP diagnostics test on the USB ports that are not working and i got the error code Q4XBL1-78J89Q-MFPV6J-8D7KO3. I ran the test on both of the ports and both came up with the same code. Can someone please tell me what this code means, and what to do about the problem? Help would be much appreciated.

A:USB Ports Not Working

Need the full model number but likely the two ports gone bad are on a daughterboard that plugs into the motherboard with a cable and the good port is directly on the motherboard. The usb port module can be purchased separately and replaced fairly easily (or if under warranty HP will do it).  But I need the model number to check the Manual and be sure this is correct for your laptop.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the USB drivers. I have cleaned the registry and done a driver scan. Please help me so that I can start working again!

I you have not already done this, go into the BIOS (integrated peripherals) and find all USB controllers....anything that says USB on it and make sure it's enabled. For some reason, I have seen BIOSs that have certain USB function disabled be default. One was disabled on a Gigabyte board I got a few months ago. There must be some reason they have, but I would just make sure. It may be something simple like this. Hope this helps.

My desktop was originally windows 8 and I had no problems then the update to 8.1 downloaded automatically and the problems started. Just before the cut of date I upgraded to windows 10.
My desktop has 2 USB 3 ports and 5 USB 2 ports. After the 8.1 update both USB 3 ports and 4 USB 2 ports stopped working but sometimes 1 of the USB 3 ports works for a short period of time.
I recently updated all my drivers and a pop up message appeared saying that there was a power surge to my USB ports and my pc does not recognise them.
Has any forum member had the same problem if so how did you resolve? or does any member know how to solve this issue as I cannot connect my printer, card reader external back-up HDD and other periferals that I use.

Anyways, I put my jumpdrive into my PC, but it wouldn't pick it up. I tried both ports, but nothing. I checked the disk in Explorer and clicked the USB icon and it said I already had the USB drivers from SP1.

Well, not that they aren't working, they just aren't installed/functioning.

In my new computer is a Gigabyte mobo GA-MA790XT-UD4P.

I updated the bios, and just about everything including the chipset.

Yet when i plug in USBs to the usb ports on either the front of back of my case, OR the media reader I have, it says

This USB Device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port.
For a list of available ports, click here.

When i click on it, none of them are high speed ports, yet this motherboard is good quality from what i see.

Anyway to fix this?

Thanks

Also, XP Professional SP3 doesnt recognize that i have 4GB of ram, it says I only have 3.25, is this some kind of Cap?

A:2 USB ports not working.

Update: I did get the 2 non working USB ports 2 finally start working. I unplugged my computer from the outlet and took out the battery and put it back in after 30 mins and booted it up and they worked. However... I still cannot get my Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo to install. I know it isn't the device itself because I plugged it into another computer and it installed right away and worked fine. Everytime i plug it in, nothing happens. I open up Device Manager and see it is under "unknown device" - "usb receiver" with a yellow flag and an exclamation mark next to it. i click properties, it says: The driver for this device is not installed. (code 28) To reinstall the driver for this device, click reinstall driver. So I do, and it pulls up the hardware wizard and it always comes back saying it cannot locate the necessary software. It does this with the software disc in my computer or with it not in. It should install without the disc, but even with the dis and even with me downloading updated software it keeps always saying it cannot locate the software. Help???  What do i need to do to fix this? Angie

This may be a faulty motherboard. Best and cheapest solution is to fit a card with USB ports on it.

I have 4 USB ports on the back of my PC and 2 on the top. They have all stopped working.

I noticed this when my USB mouse stopped working. I tried the mouse in all of the ports and it didn't work in any. I then noticed that the external hard drives that I had plugged in did also not work - they do seem to power on but the PC does not recognize them.

I have been able to get the PC working by plugging in the (non USB) type of mouse but can't seem to get the USB ports working.

I am running Windows XP Pro.

Any ideas?

A:USB ports not working

More than likely, it's not that the ports aren't working, it's probably because Windows does not come with the drivers for those peripherals. You will need to download the drivers from the manufacturer of the products.

What is the exact error you get when you plug them in? Nothing at all? Not recognized? Cannot locate drivers?

I have searched for this problem and have found some information and have taken some recommended steps to fix the problem with no success I fried my CPU and after installing a new one none of the ports on the back of my box work The USB ports do not work nor do the PS ports and it also appears that none of the expansion slots on the mobo work either Fortunately the USB ports on the front of the box still function I tried deleting the USB drivers and reloading them I tried reloading the motherboard drivers My board is a Biostar TA GX XE I also have a couple of further questions I know that you usually cannot switch out a motherboard and use the same hard drive unless you through a process to make it all work Is this still necessary if you install an identical motherboard Can you put everything back on an identical motherboard and fire it right up Can somebody direct me to a good guide to doing back ups Thanks nbsp

A:ports not working after new CPU

1) If you use an identical motherboard and nothing else was damaged then yes it will work.

2) I would make an Image rather than a backup, this is a very good free Imaging program :- http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

So I shutdown my computer and when I turned it back on again 5 out of 6 usb ports aren't working, i have a usb mouse and keyboard so I need to get at least 1 more port working. when I check in device manager it shows them all working but i have an "!" on something called PCI Simple Communications Controller, will fixing this fix my usb ports and if so where can i download the drivers for this, i dont have the original CDs or anything. If this wont fix the problem can anyone help me or point me in the right direction, I have tried almost everything I can think of.

a few things to note is that i get power to my mouse in only 1 of the usb ports but none of the others, Im running windows xp and have never had this problem before

A:5 out of 6 USB ports not working

Do you have PS2 ports on your machine? If so, borrow a keyboard and mouse with PS2connectors and make sure they work before you try this fix. If you don't have PS2 ports, Google "boot to Windows without logon screen", then set your machine up to boot to Windows without the logon screen. Test the machines booting a couple of time to make sure it boots to Windows without logon.

Next after you are sure the machine is either working with a PS2 mouse and keyboard, or is booting to Windows without a logon screen. do this.

USB drivers are in Windows. Unplug all USB devices. Go in to Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers, you should get a drop down menu of all USB controllers and hubs. Right click on each item individally and click on uninstall until all the controllers and hubs are uninstalled. Reboot the machine, and Windows should re-install all the USB drivers.

After Windows reinstalls all the USB drivers if USB devices still do not work, then you very likely have a motherboard problem.

So I have been trying to get my USB ports to work with no luck. It's really weird, they worked one night and then stopped working by the next time I got to the computer. They are the rear usb ports on the back of my mobo which is a geforce 6100-m9. I plug my ipod into the ports and they charge the ipod so i know they have power but the comp doesn't recognize the ipod and connect to it along with my flash drive. I have unintalled the drivers and reinstalled them multiple times thinking I did it wrong and still no success.

Anyone have any ideas?

A:USB ports not working

How were you uninstalling drivers? If you were doing it any way outside of the Device Manager then there is a good chance you were doing it wrong. Just delete your USB root hubs from device manager and reboot. Windows should autodetect and install the drivers for them automatically.

I was going to charge a remote control helicopter from my laptop USB port and accidently plugged the end going in to the helicopter in the wrong way. The helicopter went on even though the switch was in the off position and I unplugged it right away. When I tried again after correcting the mistake the USB port wouldn't work. The other USB ports on my laptop stopped working too. They all use to work. I have a wireless mouse that I use and it's not working. I tried uninstalling all the USB drivers and restarting, but that didn't work. I also tried turning off the laptop, unplugging the ac wire, and removing the battery for a minute. I tested the ports out with the mouse and it still doesn't work.

Hello ports Two not working USB I have a bit of a problem I have an Acer Aspire Z- and upon Two USB ports not working receiving it I reinstalled Windows to get rid of all the bloatware and useless things that were taking up space on the hard drive Upon doing this two out of three of my USB ports stopped working for some reason When I look at Device Manager it says everything is up to date I didn't really care about this considering I had the one that did work By a stroke of horrible luck though that USB stopped working too completely a hardware problem though no software involved with that breaking I plugged something in and it literally ripped something out of the USB after I took the plug out Now I have these two USB ports that really should work but they don't I am almost certain that they worked fine before I Two USB ports not working reinstalled windows so that rules out a problem with the hardware But everything that I've read suggests that its a hardware problem so I'm Two USB ports not working a bit confused with what could be going on

A:Two USB ports not working

Almost a coincidence that my previous laptop was an Aspire 5735Z. Unfortunately I never encountered this issue when I did a clean install of Windows 7.
My first thoughts are wondering if you have installed all the drivers for your laptop? Windows Update does not always find up to date drivers concerning your model of laptop.
For the drivers, click here and enter your model.
The most important drivers are the ones in the category AHCI, AMT and Chipset.
Install the drivers, restart your PC and tells us what happens.

Board connections triple checked. Everything else on boaard works.

I've emailed ASUS support. As usual I haven't heard from them.

Try to remove them in Device Manager and restart.
Are they running at 500mA or less?
Check the disk that came with the motherboard.
There may be driver updates or some other type of update on it.
Or try http://www.asus.com.tw/support/down...ModelName=Tools for the update.

Is it the front, back, or all USB ports?

Hello,

I recently installed a new hard drive and re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (FYI this is a retail version) on my laptop.

Now it seems that two out of the three USB ports on my computer aren't working. The ones next to the CD drive are unresponsive. The lone USB port on the other side of the computer works fine.

I've tried looking at the device manager but the USB drivers seem to be working fine, I didn't see any errors.

The only drivers that show up in device manger as not being installed are, PCI Simple Communications Controller, Fingerprint Sensor, Ethernet Controller, and Unknown Device.

The computer came integrated with a webcam so that may be the unknown device showing up in the device manager.
The laptop is a Toshiba Tecra A11-S3530 running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
Thanks
Nick

OK, I connected my digital camera as usual through the usb port and it is not reading my camera at all. Usually it pops up on the screen as soon as it's connected and now it's not working. I got down and actually looked into the port and found that some of the connecting little gold rods are bent out of place. I have 2 other usb ports on my computer however, & they are not working either. Could the problem with the one port be effecting all of the usb ports on my computer? I really need to fix this problem and any information on how to go about it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help received.

Good Day All,
Unfortunately for me, I was one of those that succumbed to the dark-side and purchased an Emachine. Now I know that Emachine has a bad rep, especially when it comes to the power supply. I have had my Emachine for 4 years now, and the power supply finally gave out. As far as I was concerned, not a problem. I replaced the power supply, it booted up the OS just fine. With one small exception, my USB ports will not work anymore. I have updated the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled. Still they wont work. So i figured I would come ask the experts, before going out and purchasing PCI Slot USB Cards. Is there something I missed, something I did not connect when installing the new power supply, besides the dumb mistake of buying the Emachine is there any other dumb mistake I may have done??????? Thanks in advance for any help on this ppl.

I installed all the optional and regular windows updates I tried Microsoft's fix it for USB issues I tried removing my battery and holding on the power button for minutes then restarting the laptop after letting it rest for minutes I downloaded a couple of drivers from my manufacturer from this link HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers Laptops Desktops and More HP Support the drivers include updating the Bios as well as installing the UEFI driver i even tried installing this driver quot HP pr USB Port Replicator Driver quot I also disabled and re enabled the universal serial bus's that have the exclamation point Another thing i tried was the usb selective suspend setting and disabling it from there then enabling it this is supposed to remove power from going to the USB ports then give it back None of these things worked and all of this started when i went from windows to windows The only USB port that works is the one on the right Also nothing that i plug in works like a flash drive and a mini usb mouse but it does power the devices and i see a light under the mouse and my phone is able to charge on those two ports that don't work The phone can charge but it will not allow me to access the phones files Anyways if you know of any solutions that would be greatly appreciated and if you know of any driver i can try that might work One other thing to mention is that the two usb ports that aren't working are USB ports

Ok, so I was plugging in my headphones into the headphone jack and accidentally put it in the USB port. I use a USB mouse and it stopped working after that. I tried three different USB mice(Plural of mouse?) as well as a cooling fan. None of which worked in any of the three USB ports I have.
I went to the Device Manager and updated the driver software on everything under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and rebooted my computer.
My machine is a HP Pavilion 17 Notebook laptop.
Touchpad still works.
Apologies for incorrect wording or if I posted this in the wrong sub.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

using wireless and now cable So I have this problem where my internet isnt working even though I'm fully connected It started this morning and when I ran the diagnostic from the quot IE cannot open page quot page it said that windows can't connect using HTTp HTTPS or FTP probably caused by firewall settings check setting Ports something) 443 not 21, 80 (or and working for port port and Ports 21, 80 and 443 not working (or something) port Via google I found a similar problem http forums techguy org web-email s- -ftp html -if it helps where the advice given was to reboot in Safe mode with networking I found an Ports 21, 80 and 443 not working (or something) ethernet cable and plugged it in but when I tried starting up my computer in Ports 21, 80 and 443 not working (or something) safe mode all it said that it couldn't due to power failure power-reset button was pressed neither of which happened I'm pretty sure It seems that the advice for this would be to get a diagnostic off of wherever but as the internet isn't working I can't Any advice Oh and my dad was using it when it started and just said some pop-ups came up and he clicked something Thanks for reading and or helping but could any advice be in laymans terms thanks again

Open a command prompt and see if you can ping yahoo (ping www.yahoo.com) see if you get any replies. I would run a virus scan and make sure the popup did not give you malware. If so, follow the 5 steps in my sig.
