Preferred Solution: WIFI - Network card

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: WIFI - Network card

First, you need a way to verify the networks are available. You can't just assume a wireless network is available. So you need another PC or other hardware to verify the wireless network is working. Assuming it is working, the wireless card would appear to be faulty. As you've used two OS's, you've very likely ruled out an OS and driver issue.

A:WIFI/Network card going bad maybe?

would you run xirrus and see what sort of signals you are getting please - see below

just and idea try

- try safemode with networking (sometimes wireless does not work with safemode )

For other windows version, XP,Vista, W7 as the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu appears - choose
safemode with networking - see if that works with better connection and speed - just in case something is interfering

It useful to know which program is controlling the wireless management, if this is a manufacturer or windows software

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove and reinsert carefully and firmly several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.
Note: This is not taking the machine apart. We do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless.

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
( the site now appears to require a business email, and does not allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail or yahoo etc )

Use the links below,77196-order,4/download.html

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

To post a screen shot of the active window.

Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Vista or Windows 7
you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool

Windows 8
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool (From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type "snip" and press enter.
>Press the Esc. key.
>go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button
>Press Ctrl+Prnt... Read more

Hi,  I am reinstalling my drivers for the hp dv6-2173cl laptop.  This laptop has both LAN and WiFi cards.  I looked at the driver listing for this model and I see that for the WIFI drivers HP has:Atheros and Broadcom drivers  available. I let Windows Update decide and it installed an Intel WiFi Link driver that is not even listed on the HP's website.  IDo I need to install either Atheros or Boardcom WiFi Driver for this model?    I am worried that perhaps the Intel driver is a generic driver that makes the card work but does not optimize its performance as the dedicated drivers do.  How do I tell wHich brand for the wifi card I have? Thanks,

what is best network card to recive a wifi signal from far away? Network Card or any type of hardware

A:What is best network card to receive a wifi signal from far away?

I assume you mean desktop.
What do you mean by "...a wifi signal far away..." Indoors, outdoors, upstairs, next door
Do you have control of the "far away" source?
We recommend Linksys 802.11N WMP300N for PCI card, or the DLink DWA-542 Range Booster Wireless N.
But there is some advantage to using a USB Wireless N Linksys USB WUSB300N because you can move it around to get the best results for the local environment...

A:HP dv6338se wifi network card problem

these are generally the series of hp laptops that had a manufacturing problem where the heat would separate the connections from the motherboard and you no longer have wireless internet ... or in some cases the computer would not boot up at all.
In your case that you can not get wireless internet I would recommend that you purchase a 15 - 50 $us usb wireless adapter and go about your way.
If you want directions on how to resolderer parts onto a motherboard... well I am not so good at that.

I have a problem with configuring network cards

WIFI comes nicely with DHCP pool 192.168.0 .*

I have a virtual network adapter "Microsoft Loopback Adapter"
in it I have to have a static IP address
and set it manually (IPv4)

the problem is that the WiFi card is still changing my IP address of the virtual card

how to prevent it?

I wanted to wifi card automatically collects the IP address
but did not interfere in the virtual adapter's IP

A:Wifi DHCP - the second network card on a fixed IP

I quote (from ):

Microsoft Loopback Adapter is a dummy network card, no hardware is involved. It is used as a testing tool for a virtual network environment where network access is not available. Also, you must use the Loopback adapter if there are conflicts with a network adapter or with a network adapter driver. You can bind network clients, protocols, and other network configuration items to the Loopback adapter, and you can install the network adapter driver or network adapter later while retaining the network configuration information.

Given that, there is no way your wi-fi card can "change" the IP address of your fake network adapter. If you set a static IP for ANY adapter, it WILL stay that way, regardless if one adapter is set to release and renew based on DHCP and one is not.

I even tried it myself. I installed the loopback adapter, set an IP and all that for it, released ALL DHCP'd IPs and renewed them. the static IP for the loopback adapter didn't change.

Take a look at your settings again, make sure you didn't miss something.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

I'd verify from your computer's BIOS if LAN and WLAN support are both enabled.

Depending on the Model of your computer, when you retart it you may either select F1 or F2 to go the BIOS setup.

Hey people
Here's my problem.
I use the windows 8. Accidentally i disabled my wi-fi connection (like in the picture im doing with the other connection), and since then, i wasnt able to get it able again...

Now, as you see in the same picture, the Wifi connection, as well as the bluetooth, disapeared from that folder

Now i tried to set the wifi connection again, but it doesnt work.
I went to the device manager and i saw that something was wrong with the network card (Realtek....)
I tried to active and deactive, but nothing happened.
The option 'Roll back driver' is disabled (on grey).
I restarted the pc many times and nothing...

Can you please help me? This pc is new... i bought it 2 days ago.

My PC doesn't get detect 5GHz and the increase bandwidth from my router, so I want to replace it. But before I take it apart, I want to make sure that I can do so and buy the right parts. Is this possible, and if so what should I get? I also want to add bluetooth as I remember the website had an option to do so, but bc the Costco Set Config was cheaper, I went that route instead.  Is it possible to do this internally w/o an external part [like a usb dongle] PS. A:Notebook drops wifi connection randomly- Ralink network card

It sounds to me like a signal problem. A competing signal drowning out your wireless signal can cause these kinds of random losses.

To test for this try this program:
inSSIDer for Home – Discover The Wi-Fi Around You | MetaGeek
It will tell you if you have a stronger signal in your area that is interfering with the channel.

Hi Cromsy,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:

1. Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.

After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on. Any help is appreciated.

Hahaahahaha don't look at the other tab

Why are you booting into safe mode? I would connect a network cable to the wired network port, if possible for you. In regular windows, not safe mode, right click on the 802.11ac network controller and uninstall. Right click on the top device manager entry for the computer itself and select scan for new hardware.

Hi all,

I looked online and I'm still a bit confused whether I should get dual or single band wifi for a laptop that I would like to purchase. Can someone explain to offer a suggestion as to which one is best?

Thank you in advance.

A:dual band wifi card vs single band wifi card

I should get dual or single band wifi for a laptop that I would like to purchaseClick to expand...

do you mean a router
or as part of the laptop spec ?

what router do you have and does it work in dual band simultaneously

the advantage of the 5ghz signal is if you are in a crowded 2.4ghz environment then 5ghz helps avoid interference - also the coverage is wider - although the 5ghz router i have linksys - does not seem to be

if your current router only works in 2.4ghz , then no advantage in the short term

some routers are advertised as dual band - but you have to choose between 2.4 or 5 ghz and so ALL devices will need to support 5ghz

Okay, usually when you hover over the networks listed and available from the taskbar icon, you get a nice little window with a few helpful tidbits of info for each listed network when you mouse action hover over the names. It tells you the encryption type, and the SSID, plus a few other details.

Well, on my computer, the information is appearing behind the list to where I can't read it. The network list is overlapping on top of the hover info. Talk about annoying. I searched for various things on google, with no luck. I tried:

Windows 7 network list obscuring hover details, and various other combinations to no avail. Anyone here have a clue what might be breaking this? I'd like the hover details to appear properly so I can read it. In the meantime I've installed the free version of Acrylic Wifi to work around the issue. Thanks.

A:Wifi Network info/details appearing behind Network List on hover.

The problem must be driver based or an add-on program because I don't get any of that. All I get is the name and whether it's connected or not. Check that your adaptor driver is up to date and/or the program you use to display the data is up to date.

Forgot to mention:
Dell adds "bloatware" to their PCs to "improve the user's experience" so I would check Dell Support for your specific model and look for updates.

I'm building a subscription wifi network for our area.

Cisco Aironet 1550 series:
Proxim Orinocor series:

The Proxim seems like the better product, and sells for a bit less.

Will I need to purchase anything else besides several of these for the network? I'm assuming the 'home' router connects to a PC (or the PC via the gateway address) for managing the network.

Thanks allot for your insight.

Is there a way to setup network profiles or something so that when I bring my Surface Pro to work and connect to the wireless network there it will use the static ip address I have but when I disconnect and then connect to my home wifi it will go back to DHCP? On my MacBook Pro I can go into the network settings and change the location profile I have setup for networks but I don't see anything like this for Windows 8.

A:Specific network settings based on wifi network

You can go into IPv4 Properties of this NIC, then you can use the Alternate configuration tab to set up the alternate IP, or use the Advanced tab to add a static IP/gateway/DNS etc. to TCP/IP.

Sorry if this has already been discussed. Couldn't find on a search.

I have a small secured network in my office with a modem/router networking three computers wirelessly. I would like to add another router that would allow clients in the waiting room of my office to have internet access. Could you assist me in a setup or map? I already have a wireless Linksys router available to use as the second router.

Thank You

A:Adding Wifi Network to an Already Secured Network

Are those in the waiting room to be allowed into OR forbidden access to your Lan systems?

You already have

to Isolate the W.R from your lan, connect

Code: (assumed 192.168.1.x or 0.x)
+---new router (new channel+ssid+no encryption)
set LAN addresses and DHCP for 192.168.10.x

add firewall rule to ALL your existing LAN systems to deny src address range= thru 10.255

Hi all,

I recently bought a relatively expensive sound card on Amazon and after the second boot of my PC with the card installed and working my on board LAN card decided to not work throwing error: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
The card IS enabled in the BIOS and I HAVE disabled the on-board sound card.

LAN Adapter Details:

-Driver Provider: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
-Driver Version:
-Driver Date: 23/01/2014

This sounds like an IRQ problem, which is strange because modern PCs can usually resolve these conflicts automatically. But seeing that your system is a Pentium 4, maybe the motherboard is old enough to still be dealing with the issue.

One thing you could try is to perform a Clear CMOS procedure. This will force the motherboard to re-enumerate all the devices and will often solve IRQ conflicts. Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time in BIOS.
If that does not work then you could try to get the 2 cards to play nice together by installing them in different locations, if you have the extra slots.

Keep in mind that when removing any card it is important to remove it from Device Manager first. Remove it from Device Manager > shut down > then physically remove the card > then restart into Windows > then you can shut down perform the next procedure.

Sometimes you can simply install the newer card in another PCI/PCIe slot and that will resolve the conflict. (You must remove the device from Device Manager in order to change the slot)

Other times you might need to remove both cards, then install the newer card first and the older card second.

Let's see if any of that helps.

A:Windows 7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 network card can't connect to wireless network

Three things to try ...

If you have McAfee please see the sticky thread at the top of this (Networking) forum.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Revert to a System Restore Point before the weekend.

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.

Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.

The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

A:Will adding a 2nd network card improve local network transfer speed

That won't really help the way you are describing the problem, although adding access points will help with streaming to wireless devices.

Although there is a setting in Group Policy that allows you to use two connections at the same time, I don't believe it will help in this situation.

I've done many HD movie streaming tests on my system.

I can stream from my media PC to at least 7 other machines at the same time, 4 wired, 3 wireless, plus my TV, and have no problems at all, no skipping, no freezing, even with the same movie in the same place or with 8 different movies at once, my TV is connected to my media center PC so counts as the 8th one.

This is Gb LAN, and 300Mbps wireless but even the 65Mbps limited laptop has no problem.

I'm not really sure why you are seeing these limitations but it may be the router.

My rig uses a Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless mini half-card. It reports the correct name except within the wireless network list. Instead of 6230 it reports 6320. I searched the registry to see if I could find the error, but nothing found. It's only a nuisance, and a minor one at that. Anyone else seen this? Any way I can correct it? See image below:

A:Network card name reporting incorrectly in wireless network list area

Can only suggest you may not be using the latest wireless driver, but if you are, it must be a typo in the signature file written into the card's firmware which can only be changed by the manufacturer and may be noticed by them in the next release.

If its working, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

The WiFi card in my 4-year-old HP laptop went out, and I'm looking for another one. Amazon says it will take until mid-May to arrive, and Best Buy wants $130 for it. Does anyone know a good place to get laptop components, cheap, fast, and trustworthy?

The part number is 630703-001.

A:Where to Buy WiFi Card

Long deliveries are often the norm when looking for anything that is not for a current model laptop, You could try an internet search for "630703-001 alternative" and you may be fortunate enough to find something, but personally I would order th one you have found and use a cheap wireless dongle until it arrives, the dongle would be thaere as a spare if you had any other issues, and could even be an improvement over the card depending on the full specification

Hi Guys
I hope someone can help me with understanding something. I am buying a used pc to sit in my front room connected to my tv with the purpose of keeping just music , pictures , films and some browsing.
This pc will connect by wifi however I do not know what I have brought.
Description - Wireless: Yes - Includes USB 2.0 802.11 b/g Wireless WiFi Network Card Adapter

Does this mean that the pc has internal wifi that will connect without a dongle ?
Or does this mean that a dongle is included , that will connect ?
Or does this mean that the pc has all the bits needed to work but I will need to buy a dongle ?

Also should this make a good wifi connection ? or is it very cheap and cheerful so will need improving ?
Sorry if these are daft question
Thank you for your help.

Check the status of your internal wireless card through device manager and check the status of said wireless card and which drivers are assosiated with it, if any. If you're unsure on how to access device manager, check this link: Windows XP: How to Troubleshoot Hardware Problems with Device Manager

There may be a conflict between wireless drivers or your internal card may be using the other connection in order to connect itself because it may be missing some drivers or they may be corrupt.

As for your trackpad drivers: Drivers | Synaptics . Should resolve your issue there though i'm not sure if the drivers you're looking for are specific to your device.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Oh do excuse me, it seems I misread your original post. I still advise you check your device manager on Ubuntu, but you should get there by going to System>Preferences>Hardware Information and then clicking on the dialogue box titled 'Device Manager'. All other information above is relevent.

Hey guys, I'm looking for any recommendations about buying a usb wifi card that will let me create a hotspot while using my internal wifi card..

so note, - I want a wifi internal connection to be internet connection shared to a plugged in usb Wifi adapter that I setup to be a hotspot.. got it?

(i'm not talking about sharing internet through a wired connection aka ethernet..)

I'm a little concerned as it appears some of the usb wifi adapters don't allow this? has anyone heard of that?

I was thinking to just get this one.. TP-LINK TL-WN725N Wireless N Nano USB Adapter 150Mbps: Computers & Accessories

A:Need Usb Wifi Card..

Has anybody successfully setup a home network where 1 computer has 2 wifi cards - and then you use 1 of the wifi cards to turn into a hotspot and sharing the internet for others to join that shared network??

I know it can be done through wired ethernet and then you share using your internal wifi adapter..

but I want to know if I have 2 usb wifi sticks in a computer, - USB wifi A. has connected to the internet, and then USB wifi B is setup as a hotspot and sharing that Usb wifi A internet..

I bought a Sierra 598U USB air card through Sprint. Works great when connected directly to my PC. To run you have to install Sprint software on PC which in turn looks for the USB device, once found you can connect. When I hook up my wifi box to the PC and plug the USB aircard into the WiFi box the Sprint software does not see the USB aircard and thus I cannot connect. The WiFi box was advertised as compatible to the Sierra USB air card. Is there a different configuration that will work or third party software that will help make this work?

A:How do I set up WiFi with my USB Air Card?

The WiFi box rebroadcasts the Sprint signal as 802.11g wireless.
Connect through your regular 802.11 wireless card on your computer just as you would for regular wireless router.

The Sprint software is for when the USB card is hooked directly to your computer.

So I noticed a few things that are different when I'm on wifi or ethernet.

1. With apple stuff, AirParrot (airplay client) doesn't work unless I'm on ethernet. Same with iTunes.

2. I don't get IPv6 unless I'm on ethernet.

3. I can't stream from Windows Media Player to my xbox unless I'm on ethernet.

So why would those only work while I'm on ethernet and not on wifi? They are all on the same network... Is it a configuration problem? Is it a my wifi card sucks problem?

My wifi card is Realtek RTL8187SE

This sounds more like a router compatibility problem to me or you could be wirelessly connected to the guest account which would be outside the regular network.

I'd have to see a screen shot of the ipconfig/all with both connections in order to see what's going on there.

I have an HP notebook, model dv8 & it has had this problem for over a year. It randomly turns off the wifi connection - the button to turn the connection on/off on the keyboard turns orange from blue. When I press on the button, it reconnects. Sometimes the pc stays connected for a couple of hours & sometimes it goes right back off. When it goes off the pc may reconnect on it's own only to go back off a moment later.

It is NOT my router because my other 3 pcs have never done this. This pc is running Windows 7 & the router is Linksys N. The pc has an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN network adapter. I tried reseating the card by opening the back, pulling the card out, & reinstalling it. After that I did not have a problem for 2 whole days!

Would replacing the wifi card fix this problem?

Any help please. I have HP ENVY m6-1178sa Notebook PC running Windows 10 x64 fitted with an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 single band wifi card. How do I upgrade this to a suitable dual band card. Which model works best? Thanks

A:Replacing wifi card

It has the BIOS whitelist on wireless cards. That means if you put any but the handful of HP branded cards approved for this model into the laptop, it will refuse to boot up with an error message. None of the available cards is a dual band.  That is the official line. Here is a somewhat old thread that suggests an Intel N-6235 will work. Provided for discussion only I cannot guarantee any of this:

So I have a netgear N-300 USB router, nothing big for a small computer, but every hour or so it disables itself and won't reenable! I'm forced to pull it out and put it back in. Normally this wouldn't be a big problem, but I'm running a server on this computer and it gets really annoying to those people on the server and me, who has to keep fixing it.

These are my computer SPECS
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.70GHz
1.69GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

(yeah my computer sucks, it was made in 98 I have a new one that will rock you though)

A:My Wifi Card Disables Itself

Check your power options to see if the adapter is set to be disabled to save power.

Go to My Computer right click on it then selet properties go to the Hardware Tab then the device manager tab located your Wifi Adapter under under Network (Click on the + symbol)adapters. Right click on your wifi adapter select properties then "Advanced" locate power options then set it to full power or not to disable to save power then click on ok.

I have heard that USB cards tend to eat a lot of resources. Is this the case? Cost is not the issue, I just want something that works and is stable. The connection will be semi-permanent.

Just slapped in a 9500GT 1024. Its double height so had to move my Tplink wn-650g down a slot. Now windows does not detect a network. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. No luck. Moved it back to original slot and it works again! Tried other slots too but no luck. It seems to only work in one of my PCI slots which is most annoying as its the one closest to the GFX card slot.

Also, despite having 4GB installed windows only has 2.94GB usuable. The max RAM thing is unticked. I tried Memory Remap in BIOS which showed the full 4GB on reboot but on my other OS (dual boot system) Win XP SP3 Pro it only show 2GB!This OS I use for music production so RAM is very important! Help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi ,

I have a HP Notebook : Wndows 8.1 ( 64-bit )

Product Number : K7W82UA
Model No : 15-g020dx
Serial No : (removed content)

My question is :

Can I upgrade the wifi card from a standard Wifi 802.11 b/g/n card , to a 802.11ac/b/g/n wifi card ?
If yes , can you please tell me which 802.11ac/b/g/n wifi card would be an HP Compatible Upgrade ?

Thank you .

A:Upgrade Wifi card

I have some good news and bad news and some more bad news for you. Here is the Service manual: Manual See p. 51. This is a very technical and difficult process involving a lot of disassembly. That is bad news 1. Bad news 2 is that HP may have put only one wireless antenna in your laptop. If that is the case, upgrade is nearly impossible as any card you put in there will be ineffective with one antenna and an 802.11ac card will not work at all.  The good news is that there is no whitelist. You can install any module of the correct form factor which is half-height mini pci-e like this:   Above is likely the card you have...the dreaded Realtek RTL8188EE which keeps us in business here at the Forum from the volume of issues.  What you need to do is follow the manual and open it up and check to see if there are 2 antennae or just one. If one, close it up and start thinking about a usb adapter. If 2, then I recommend this: That will be the best wi-fi card compatible with your AMD processor system and your form factor requirements.  Post back if you need any more help. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

A:My wifi card went out. What do I replace it with? Are there ...

Hi: The easiest thing to do would be to purchase an external usb wireless network adapter. This is the one I use on 3 of my HP business desktop PC's that are running W10. It is dual band as well, so it works on both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 Ghz wireless bands.

Hi all, I just started an attempt to (officially)  upgrade the WiFi card in my Z50-75. When I bought the unit, it had the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x B/G/N card installed, I will now try to replace it with a Broadcom BCM43162-AC card. I found a seller on Aliexpress who is selling this Broadcom card with the original Lenovo Partnumber 20-200573, which is also indicated in the Z50-series Service manual. Today I ordered the part, I will let you know if the part was genuine and has the proper Lenovo ID in its firmware.... ;-) For sure it will take some time for shipping to Spain, when it arrives I will keep you posted. Un saludo from Spain, Satbeginner

Hi all, IT WORKS with my Win8.1 machine! No issues with BIOS, just old card out, new card in. This card has drivers here: For now it uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but since my router is N-only (for now)  it does not use the AC-speeds yet.I ordered an ASUS AC-router. The card is now for sale here: Check for the Lenovo PN 20-200573 and the FRU number 04x6019.It is shown as a BCM802.11ac Network Adapter, the BT is shown as BCM2035. Succes!! Un saludo from Spain, Satbeginner

My laptop constantly shut down a few years back due to overheating. I started to clean the fan and my computer hasn't shut off on me since - until last night.

This morning, the internet on my computer kept on cutting in and out. The internet works fine on my phone, but on my 4 year old DV2828CA HP Pavilion it cuts in and out every 2 minutes. I would be browsing and everything would load fine, and all of a sudden I get a "searching for wireless network" notice and my internet goes out.

I am thinking this can be caused to due the heating. Is there a way to run a diagnostic on my wireless card?

So I've had an Acer v5 522p for just over a year now, and within the past 2 months, the wifi has gone from bad, to horrible, and yesterday, to non-existant. I've done what every other thread on this board, and other boards have said: reinstalling drivers, disabling bluetooth, disabling the power management on the wifi adapter, and I even did a factory reset. Nothing. So, I'm now looking to either buy a USB wifi adapter, or preferably just get a new wifi adapater card and replace the Atheros AR5BWB222. But, I have no idea whether the motherboard has a whitelist on replacing wifi cards or not, any thoughts? Thanks!
