I'm working on a windows vista computer that would restart randomly and get a window exception bsod. I took out a memory module and ran memtest86 with memory in slot 1. Failed. Swapped it out with another memory stick but on the SAME slot on the motherboard. Failed.
Took that stick, put it in another slot on mobo. Passed. Took the other stick put in in that next slot, got the restarts again. Could it be that the memory slot that went bad on the mobo also caused the memory stick to go down with it?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Yes, that could be possible.https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-bad-memory-stick-and-slot.1011709/
it seems that the memory stick slot doesnt work anymore. in the device manager there is a yellow question mark and it says that it it not working. i would try installing the drivers but i kinda lost the recovery cd or what not. well before when i bought this, VAIO PCV-RX580, it was using Windows XP Home and now i use Professional. not sure if that makes a difference. im just wondering is there anyway i can get the memory stick slot to work again?
Try updating the drivers from here, search for your memory device.
I just purchased my computer yesterday. I removed my Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo from my digital camera and was going to download them to my computer. The slot came with a Dell piece. My memory stick is too small. It did not come with an adapter and I have no idea how to get it installed. Any ideas???
It is likely that the two aren't compatible.
What model Dell do you have? The type of adapter that you need depends on what slots your Dell has.
Also - most cameras come with a USB cable. Could you use that instead?

I am happy to report that I have solved the identical problem you describe involving system hang on the Windows XP splash screen and the yellow memory stick light turning on at that point. Similar to your experience I could boot in safe mode but no way to get into a normal boot. As this was a client machine on a limited budget I could not waste a lot of time and contacted the client and got authorization to do a full system restore figuring it would eliminate any software issues (conclusion based on ability to boot in safe mode it seemed reasonable?). Much to my surprise after a full factory restore from the OEM restore DVD the symptom was still there, in fact the restore could not complete because it required a full normal boot to finish the restore. So now I was really perplexed, no way it was software (given that the drive had been fully erased and reformatted), so that only leaves hardware and the memory stick module seemed the likely culprit and on a hunch I tore the bloody thing apart (keyboard, rear hinge cover, and all screws from bottom of the case) which allowed be just enough clearance to get inside and remove the ribbon cable from the memory stick module and presto the problem is resolved and unit now boots normally and I am in the process of bringing the system back up to current standards with all the updates, etc, and have already done multiple reboots with no problems. So I suspect you will find similar results once you go through the difficult task of tearing it apart as our symptoms were identical.
Trust me it has nothing to do with virus or malware activity, it is an actual hardware failure!!

I have an IBM T30 laptop which has 2 slots for memory. Which is the primary? I am adding a 512 mb memory module and I want to know which slot should contain the 512 and which
one the remaining 256. BTW, even though I have a 256 in each slot most of the time it only
recognizes a single 256 module. Thanks for your info.
So I have three ram sticks. One, I had replaced because it had been scanned as being faulty. After a while I began to have the same problems as when I still had the ram stick, so I I took out one to see how it worked, and it was fine, so I assumed the one I had taken out was faulty as well, but later I found it to be a little suspicious, so I tested the second bad one in the slot that my good one had been in and it worked. Then I tried the good one in the slot that the bad ones had been in and that's when I had a problem, so it appears my ram stick slot is the problem. Is there a way to find real proof and if it really is messed up, how do I go about fixing it?
when i connect my USB memory stick it connects but dose not show in my computer,

I have ordered a new PC which will arrive with 512MB DDR 333MHZ (PC2700). I have two spare 256MB DDR 266MHZ CL2 PC2100U Memory sticks that I would like to install in the new machine to bump up total memory. Does anyone know if these will be compatible, will they degrade overall speed, etc? Thanks!
They will slow down the new 333Mhz RAM to 266Mhz which will result in a performance decrease. In some case the 266Mhz RAM might be run at 333MNhz but this might cause instability. As for compatibility, some brands and models of RAM are not compatible with some motherboards; some manufacturers list some compatible RAM and some incompatible RAM on their sites. Having 1024 MB of RAM instead on 512 MB may help in some areas but not for normal use.

I have a USB memory stick which is used for daily incremental backups of data. I can read and write to it with no [apparent] problems, but when seeking to withdraw the stick I'm advised that 'the generic device cannot be stopped now: try again later'. Device Manager shows no problems with the device. I now withdraw the stick on computer close down with no apparent subsequent problem. Also, I'm not allowed to reformat the stick. Any advice gratefully received.

It could be a fake Usb stick, you can test it with this free program :- http://download.heise.de/software/2050c866819359698668f51f7a362f38/4c536f3f/3582/h2testw_1.4.zip
Details here :- http://mympx.org/Downloads/p13_sectionid/2/p13_fileid/13
If you have important files on the Usb stick back them up before testing.
I inserted my wife's memory stick into my Laptop and AVG picked up numerous "backdoor" viruses on her images which I then attempted to remove. Now I am in serious trouble The 4GB stick shows 1,5GB free and 2,5GB used, but when opening the stick the file is empty. What is happening? Can I retrieve her images? Guys, please help....she is MAD with me.
Heya, well i have recently rebuilt my computer so now i have one drive (c) rather than 2 (c and d). This is because i was so low on space. Anyway i just plugged in my memory stick (silver pearl usb 2.0), and it doesn't appear, my computer makes a bleep when i plug it in and when i pull it out, but it doesn't actually detect it. I know this because when i go to 'safely remove hardware' it does not appear. How can i get my computer to detect my memory stick? Note -: The memory stick did work before i rebuilt my computer, and it doesn't need any software to be installed for it to work. All help much appreciated! -Kitten6
I have a SD-MMC reader writer on my computer I just bought a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S camera my first digital camera lol I also bought a GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for it Now I simply assumed that that memory stick would work Memory SD-MMC Stick/ Solved: in my SD reader writer but it doesn t fit It s also not the same size as the SD memory card I use in it nor are the contacts the Solved: Memory Stick/ SD-MMC same However the instructions with the camera say to simply insert the Memory Stick Pro Duo in the memory slot on the computer if there is one So my question is Is the Memory Slot referred to in the camara s manual something different than the SD slot It s not a problem because the camera also came with it s own USB cord to connect to the computer and I can download my pictures using that but it would be more CONVENIENT to NOT have to remember to drag that cord with me to my mother s house or where-ever nbsp
Up until this morning, my usb had been functioning perfectly.
However, when I "saved" a file to the USB, it was grand. There, openable.
Upon ejection, and replugging, the file was no longer there.
I moved a folder, with the same process, ejected, and replugged, the folder was there, but was empty...
Any Ideas please... Really bugging me.

I copied over a large file (550mb) earlier on today to give to a friend. It failed for problems I thought were on his memory stick.
I was just about to e-mail some very important work, a word doc, and found this in it's folder.
It is crucial that I somehow get this work back. In there there SHOULD be about 7 MS Office word documents in about 6 folders.
As you can see, nothing opens or is readable.
What do I do? I NEED this work!
Thanks for any help at all...
Well I had to format it and wipe it all indefinetely.

Solved, I guess.
I'm wondering if a memory stick should be replaced and if so how often?
When it stops working, replace it
My memory card (sony memory stick pro duo 4gb) has just been emptied after being full. When I turned my camera back on, it says I have 93 pictures left to take, when it should really say over 1,000. To make things worse, I'm on a mac and have no idea what I'm doing. Help would be greatly appreciated as I am going on holiday in 2 days and would really like to take more than 93 pictures...
Check the camera to make sure you are not taking pics in a very high resolution. You should also be able to view the contents of the memory stick in Windows Explorer to verify that there are no files that are not being transferred properly.
I mounted a folder to a USB Stick in a USB Slot ... to unmount is it needed to enter the stick(any stick?) ? After I must delete folder ? How I unmount in vista 32bit home premium ?
If you had a dual boot of XP or 7 along with Vista there you would simply boot into the other version to right click and select delete. While in Vista you have to right click on the folder itself in order to uncheck the read only box found on the properties screen. You may need additional permissions for your user account in order to see that done however.http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/231963-i-mounted-folder-usb-stick-usb-slot-unmount.html
I am using an ASUS P7H55-M motherboard. One of my RAM slots got burn, because i insert the RAM module in the wrong side by mistake. I can still use the other three and using it currently. My question is, will it reduce the mobo's performance or perhaps render it useless if i continue using like this. Are RAM slots replaceable, if yes how much could it cost.My mobo's stil under warranty but i doubt it'll cover it. Is it better off buying a new board.
It will reduce performance since you can't use the full amount of your RAM but you might not notice it unless you game or use applications that use intensive graphics and how much RAM you have left. You would be better off buying a new board since I agree that the warranty probably won't cover your mistake. However, you could contact the motherboard manufacturer and ask them anyway since you have nothing to lose.
I can't format my 6 month old Tosihba 2 gb memory stick. I've tried it on both my tower and laptop and it fails on both. Is it trash?
Try HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.
OK i just bought a 1g stick of RAM for this laptop (see sig for specs) and after installing it I just noticed that only 512mb's of it is showing up!
The memory I bought is here
Anyone have any idea how i can either check to make sure that it's the stick that messed up and not my machine, or reconfigure my system to recognise all 1g's of this stick?
The specs you listed mention,
Maximum Memory 1024MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 512MB)
The max each slot can use is 512mb. You need (2) 512 sticks, not a 1gb stick.

Theres usually not much you can do with them you could try running check disk with the "f" parameter(fix) chkdsk X:/f X being the drive letter you computer has assigned it
I have a Sony 256mb Micro Vault that I'm having alot of problems with. A while ago it worked perfecting then by some fluke (don't ask me what I was thinking at the time) I tired to format it in ext3. This was obviously a stupid mistake cause now I can't use it in either Linux or Windows. I'm looking for some way to just wipe it clean and back to normal so things can be like the good ol' days.
Oh and the windows "disk format" option doesn't work.
Hello, I have a Compaq laptop with Vista pre-installed. I have no problems using Vista except when it comes to using a couple of programs that I really enjoyed on my old computer with XP Pro. Is it possible to boot XP Pro from a memory stick or do I have to install a dual boot using the hard drive on my laptop? I've read several articles on installing both operating systems on one hard drive, but it seems risky. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Now here comes the doh...part !!
The memory stick fits into my laptop (advent 5302), as did my previous sd cards ( a lot bigger) from my older Kodak digi camera, a little bit sticks out for me to retieve, but when I tried to show a friend my photos by slotting the memory stick into the side of her laptop
( 2 years old), it disappeared and I ended up with a pair of surgical tweezers doing a very tricky operation to get it back. Luckily, no damage to my stick or her laptop.

For the past months, I can NOT save any, i.e. words, photoes, music and all others when I inserted Memory-sticks or CD into the one of USB slots. On CD, it says, ... insert a blank CD although there is CD in there for waiting for saving. On Memory-stick, there is NONE showing even though I inserted a brand new one into one of USB slots. Except this issue, the PC running as good as a brand new.
My question is;
What's causing this, ... not able to save any programs I need to save on CD or memory-stick?

I venture to Sony's website and this model doesn't exist on their drop down menus. I choose their "Auto-Detect Model" feature and it comes up as a RX550. I've tried downloading every driver on sony's site that pertains to any USB Memory Stick Slot as it's reported in device manager with no success.

Fixed it. Seems as though the driver was the correct one. Just that you had to go fish it out of the Temp folder it placed it in during the driver installation and manually load the driver for the device in device manager.
Tricky Sony....I'm pretty sure it all stems from the fact that I didn't use their original restore discs to reinstall Win Xp Home.
I got something like this: http://tiny.cc/9abbu This shown up after i tried to turn on usb connection and listen to music no PSP (succeeded) Is memory stick corrupted? Both PC and PSP work fine with it except not working 2x click or right>1st option (unknown application). Surprisingly it is repaired by going into options and changing name of stick. I will check if it happens on different PCs later.
It turned out that it was trojan trying to attack other PCs by autostart. Too bad on second PC i had AV running. It has been taken care of fast and clean right now I'm scanning for remains / way it got in (1st malware i had in almost 2 years without AV! wow )http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/solved-strange-not-working-open-explore-commands-for-r-click-on-memory-stick-348817.html

I am running Windows XP in a Compaq Presario, with CD reader and CD/DVD burner.
My question: How do I get a DVD(with photos and sound) onto a Flash Memory stick or an SD card??
Insert the Disc with photos and sound (close any autorun)
Go to My Computer
Right Click on the CD/DVD drive (with your photos and sound in) and select open
Click on Edit (in Toolbar) then Select all
Click on Edit (in Toolbar again) and select copy
Close the folder
Insert your Flash Memory stick and select Open folder to view the files
Click on Edit (in Toolbar again) and select paste
All done Copy and paste (some say I'm good at this !)
Completely new to this so apologies if barking up the wrong tree .... !
Rather than buying a 32 gb memory stick to upload some important jpg pictures into for safety's sake, I'm wondering if it's possible to upload and store them in a spare and unused 32gb memory card that I've got lying around instead ? Equally if it's then possible to download them safely later on ?
Short answer is Yes. An SD card is very similar to a flash drive as far as the technology goes and can be used like an SD card for storing files. I would format it Fat32. And you can download (Copy) the files from the card at any time.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/366044-possible-save-memory-card-rather-than-memory-stick.html
Hello my old laptop Acer aspire 7551g had 4gb DDR3 1333.
The new one is Lenovo G500s with DDR3 1single 1666 so i have one slot left.
So DDR3 1333 + DDR3 1666 will work or not?
The goal is to have 8gb ram so i can cheak if Watch Dogs still lag when driving (i know one stupid game not worth it?)
What i want to know is is it safe to try?
So thank you for answears.
Lately, My laptop is very slow in recognizing my usb stick, or my Hard drive (usb 3.0) or my sxs cards through my express card slot. It 's also slow in recognizing my sd-cards through my card reader. I have a very fast laptop. A lenovo W530.
I just started a while ago, and I can't get it to recognize faster . Everything else works just fine and fast.... but it takes up to 4 minutes to recognize these things.
Can somebody help?
Hey tidri. 2 things come to mind if it previously worked. One is a reinstall of all the drivers for the mobo, and the other is a full AV/Malware/Rootkit scan. If everything checks out, a full format and an OS reinstall would be my third move.
When inserting memory module on the memory slot it was not aligned properly. When i turn on the power i noticed smoke and i immediatly turned off the power. Removed memory module and half of it was burnt, now my question is the memory slot damaged? Because its slightly burned in the inside slot, could i install a new memory module in that particular slot? or do i have to change the memory slot thats on the mother board?
You are probably lucky if you didn't kill the whole board. The slot is most likely toast. If you were brave enough to try another stick in the same slot, it may not work, or it may burn-up something else. I don't think changing the slot is really an option. Motherboards are not exactly repairable items.

I have a dell dimension 9200 and the motherboard can handle a maximum of 4gb of ram, but is there a limit per slot?
In other words does it have to be 4 x 1gb sticks of ram or can I use 2 x 2gb sticks?
The reason I ask is that I've had lots of bsod and crashes recently and after performing lots of tests using memtest it seems that 2 of the ram slots on my motherboard are bad meaning I only have 2 good ones to use.
RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com will provide that answer for you.
According to crucial

Put a card in it and:
Look in Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager
Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and see if a USB mass storage device is listed.
Also look to see no yellow ? or ! are shown, indicating missing drivers.

Hi: If you look at the illustration in chapter 4, page 52 of the service manual, it appears that the memory slots are stacked on top of each other. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03762978http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/I-Can-t-Find-Other-Memory-Slot/td-p/5655384
So recently my colleague tried to upgrade the RAM in his laptop, but he ended up messing up really bad he actually broke the only memory slot on the motherboard (yikes!). He asked me to take a look at it for him, and I was pretty surprised how badly he had messed it up (as in there's no way it could be fixed). I told him he might have to replace the entire motherboard, but he really can't afford that right now. I let him know that might be his only option, but I decided to ask here before giving up. The rest of the motherboard is fine; only the memory slot is broken. So is it possible to replace just the memory slot without replacing the entire motherboard? And if so, can anyone help me out with doing this? He does really need his laptop, so any help would be awesome.
How long can he go without a laptop?
That is a big project. You will need to be a master with a solder gun. Just getting the old part off without melting the motherboard will be an adventure. There are a LOT of pins.
First you will need to find the Brand and model # of the motherboard. You can use CPU-Z for that - it will list the info on the third tab.
Then, armed with that info you will search for the RAM SOCKET replacement. This is where it will get interesting, as the available sources will be in Asia. Shipping will kill you (for a $3 part). And you will probably need some translation skills too.
Your colleague really couldn't afford to mess his RAM Socket up. Now his best bet is to buy a new laptop.
I have been building computers for years and never found a reason for the placement of the memory slots on a motherboard. If you look at a board that uses an Intel CPU, the slots used are1-3 and/or 2-4. If you look at a board that uses an AMD CPU however, the slots used are 1-2 and/or 3-4. Does anybody know why this is? No, I'm not trying to make a better motherboard, I'm just curious enough to finally ask.
Thanks for any info anyone can give.
'If you look at a board that uses an AMD CPU however, the slots used are 1-2 and/or 3-4.'
refer to the MSI K9N - which see;
Dual channel with slots 1/3 or 2/4.
Assuming that you installed 2 Gb in 4 modules of dual channel ram and it is used from byte 0 to 2047 linearly, then assuming that the average 2 Gb ram install running XP uses about 50% of the Ram running avg8 (as example), you would get heating in ram modules 1 and 3 and none to speak of in 2 and 4.
Thus, heat separated components and better cooling.
My motherboard just went out on my pc and I was wondering if there is something that I can hook up to my laptop that will let me read whats on my pc memory, kind of a external memory slot or something. I've been searching google for a few hours and I can't find anything and I know you guys always know what your talking about and answer very quickly. Any help would be appreciated.
Your actual data is not stored in the memory, its stored on the hard drive. And it's very easy to connect a hard drive to any other PC, there are many adapters for this.
Here's a version that simply connects a drive, either SATA or PATA(IDE) to a USB port without any enclosure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002
Here's a version that basically converts the drive into an external drive that you can safely use that way: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817388017
This one only supports SATA hard drive with a connector like this: http://www.google.ca/imgres?hl=en&s...dsp=35&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:28,i:160&tx=102&ty=76
More enclosures to choose from: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=92&name=External-Enclosures
actually, i was used to a pc with 160mb-ram - which is 32 + 128. now i own a faster one with one single 512mb-slot. but unfortunately, some problems occur: gta3 is collapsing all the time, i cannot copy a normal 1024x768 .tga-image to clipboard via corel (»low memory«) and after watching some freshly downloaded quake3-bots i got the message »low memory«, too. sometimes, even some multitasking surfing can bring me up to fully busy memory - is this a technical problem or am i asking for too much power!? i heard something like this memory-damage would lead to the problems i have.
speaking against it is a rather stable quake3 while in game and a fascinating stable 1nsane played also in 1280x1024 - without any stinky problem.
thanks and regards,
The memory module might be faulty or motherboard might not support 512M modules
This is a hardware question for anyone that can help me out. I have tried to upgrade the ram in a dell dimension 5150, after seating the additional ram one of the existing slots containing ram started smoking with an obvious plastic burning smell. I have removed all ram and the burning is still occurring when powering on accompanied by a loud beeping noise. It's clear that one of the slots is melting. Need to know what my options are now. New board, or can this be rectified. Obviously the slot is now damaged and can't be used but there are three remaining. Never experienced this and unsure what has caused it to happen ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please place your system specs, that way we could help you easier.:

The beeping noise, is it a one long beep? Or is it accompanied by another long or short beep?
I was told by Lenovo that one slot will accomodate 1 gig of memory, instead of using 2 half gig sticks. I was also told about something called "memory boost" as an external memory source to increase memory. has anyone heard of this? I want to run PhotoshopCS and need 1 GIG of memory and don't want to get new motherboard(the machine is long out of warantee). can anyone help on this issue?
"readyboost" is a feature only available for Vista, where it can use a USB memory stick as an alternative to paging back to the hard drive, it's not really in place of RAM.
Can anyone tell me where the RAM expansion slot is on a MITAC 7521 laptop, I can't find it. DOH!
look at the manual or call the manufacturer.

I removed my memory card before ejecting it. Now my memory card slot doesn't work at all. I have done it before and got help on fixing but I can't remember how I did it. It is a readable card and I have tried several different ones so it's not a issue with card itself. The computer doesn't even see I am putting it in. Please help I do a lot of photo's and it's annoying to have find the computer plug everytime I need to get the pictures off.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Memory-card-slot-not-reading/td-p/5789311
How can I upgrade my laptop memory? There isn't a memory slot at the bottom of the laptop.
Memory slots on this notebook model are placed under the bottom cover so when RAM modules must be exchanged or upgraded bottom cover must be removed.
Please note: on some notebook models RAM upgrade is supported by notebook owners and RAM upgrade steps are described in user?s manuals document.
I your case such upgrade is not supported and RAM upgrade should be done by authorized service provider.
Generally speaking bottom cover removal is not complicated but you should not do it alone. This will cancel valid warranty.
In my opinion, before you do anything contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country and ask for help. Simply pick up some info about price and compatible RAM modules.

1. Expansion SlotWhat is the expansion slot specification for this model as we would like to add a dedicated graphics card with DisplayPort ? 2. MemoryHow many memory slots does it have on the motherboard ?What type of memory is required ?What is the maximum memory supported on the motherboard ?
Go to Solution.
Ok, Sorry looking up the model at Kingston and a couple other sites didn't show your computer and seeing I hadn't seen any I was confused. Based on what I have found maybe a Model from other country. With that said it looks like it comes with 2gig DDR3L Ram and is Upgradable to 8Gig Also looks like yours comes With 1 PCI Express x16 Slot. I am not sure with the PSU and with that slot if you would be able to upgrade to a different Graphics Card. GPU and size of case would put a huge limit on what could be able to fit... Does anyone know a way to delete all info. in one hit ? Thanks in advance
If it shows up under 'My Computer' when you insert it into your card reader, you should be able to right-click on it, and select 'Format' to completely wipe the card clean.
If 'Format' it doesn't appear in the right-click menu, click on 'Properties' and see if it's in there.
Please help, I accidentally formatted my wifes memory stick, it contained about 4GB of work she had not backed up. Is there any way I can retrieve any of her work.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, I am running Windows XP SP3 and I have high speed satilite service provider. I live in a remote area and the only other provider is dialup. My nieghbor who also lives here has Windows Vista and she only has dialup. I am wondering if I can download Windows Defender onto my USB memory stick and then go install it onto her computer. It is a 12 hour download for her since she is only getting 17Kbps speed and also can't seem to download it. Hope someone can help since it is two different platforms and I don't know if it is the right thing to do. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Not sure about Windows defender , but most downloads give you a choice to save or run. Many times, I have saved to a cd and burned it for friends who have a slow connection.
I think your idea should work.
I have a USB1.1 memory stick that is a few years old. It has worked faithfully up until now. Yesterday when I insert it into a USB port, the computer (XP) does not detect it. There is no error message, there is no yellow question mark in the Device Manager. It does not appear on in My Computer, it doesn't work on another computer (Vista) and I have another USB Memory stick that does work with the computer so I am guessing that there is problem with the older stick.
Is there anything I can do to access the data on the stick and back it up before I replace it?
I was using an Windows XP computer that didn't have a floppy drive so I used a USB memory stick to save things onto. XP has that auto read and it knew were it was so it was no problem to access the files on it. Now that computer and I'm stuck using a Windows 98 that doesn't have the auto find. How do I get the computer to read the USB so I can access the files?
I have plugged my memory stick into my pc and I cannot read from it. There is no data available on it. I plugged it into another pc and still nothing. Help. How do I retrieve the data?
I have a USB flash drive
It worked fine as was seen when plugged in my old pc
But now on my new one it says its installed and lights up when I plug it into USB But does not appear in My Computer window to click on it to open it Any ideas please?
My card reader is the same.
Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------
Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.
Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.
When this is done, reboot TWICE.
Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.
NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify the instructions.
I'm trying to download Winzip Program to a memory stick,so that i can install on another computer that needs Winzip, but is not connected to I/Net.
Everytime i try an install, there seems to be missing files.
Any ideas ??
No ideas. I've often transferred WinZip via USB drive-never had any problem. Are you sure you're saving the downloaded file to the USB drive-if you try copying your installed version of WinZip you probably won't get it all. Other than that the only idea I have is that you have a problem with your download-have you tried re-downloading it? Maybe from a different PC?
I was wondering if someone can help me, i am having huge problems with memory sticks, im on my second one because stuff that i save into the stick disappears or when i open i file like a word document its opens with no text, just rows and rows of tiny boxes i would be so grateful if someone could help me. Im not a computer wizz, only know what i know which unfortunaly isnt why my memory stick is playing up. Perhaps someone know a great helpful website

Hello all I ve been running Memtest version on my memory sticks lately I mainly started because I read a lot about it in the forums and wanted to try it out I m kind of new to the whole PC scene so I don t know exactly why or when to run memory tests or what all the numbers are supposed to tell me I ll start by Stick? Bad Memory listing my system specs Processor Intel P C GHz w MHz FSB Motherboard MSI G Neo -PLS Memory Kingston ValueRam GB x MB PC Hard Disk Western Digital GB RPM IDE I realize that my current memory is not optimum for my system but at the time I built my system it was what I had I plan on upgrading to PC in the future My motherboard has RAM slots each for Channel quot A quot and Channel quot B quot I ve run each stick in each slot individually for a minimum of hours per run The first stick has consistantly run without any errors the second stick has consistantly run with many errors My questions are these Bad Memory Stick? Have I run the tests properly Can I assume that ultimately there should be no errors My memory has a quot Lifetime Warranty quot how would I go about having Kingston replace the bad stick If I ve left out any pertinent information I apologize and please feel free to request it Any responses are greatly appreciated Thank you ahnadahodo nbsp
There is really no way to run MemTest wrong and yes, there should be no errors whatsoever.
You can either take the memory back to where you bought it or RMA it directly to Kingston. You can find the RMA form on www.kingston.com under support.

am experiening problems copying files from an Acer laptop with 08 vista to memory stick both media and word docs. Older docs transferred from work pc go to and from the Acer via memory stick without problem Others created or copied direct to (eg music) cannot be tranferred to memory stick, with message reading : error 0x800700052.
I would gretaly appreciate any advice.
You may be trying to put too many files into the root directory of the memory stick, try creating a folder on the memory stick and then copying the files to that folder instead.
How do i download photo's to memory stick. do i need a programme of some kind.? or is there something in xp that will do it for me .didnt think the cheap cd writer that came with it would do it .
Barjay, welcome to TSF.
Insert your memory stick into an empty USB port.
Find the pictures you wish to transfer. Select the file you want and right click on it > Choose Send To > Removeable Drive.
It says that this memory stick is perfect for the PSP, but right now for me it isnt being perfect. It will not let me transfer any data onto it?? Im using the latest version of sonicstage, and none of the support sites for the card are helpful at all. Can anyone help me out please??
This probably sounds daft, but when you buy a PSP did a memory stick come with it, or did you have to buy one separately?
My PSP "fat" came with a 32MB memory stick.
I believe there are packages that come with up to 1 GB memory stick.
I bought my own 2GB memory stick and I use that exclusively.
What is the difference between a USB flash drive and a USB pen drive? There is a difference in price but that is all i can work out at the moment. Please can you help.
Welcome to TSG!
According to Ask.com when I searched for usb flash drive, a USB flash drive and USB pen drive are one and the same:
Known By Many Names
Also known as a "flash drive," "pen drive," "keychain drive," "key drive," "USB key," "USB stick" and "memory key," ...
I already knew that, but wondered if indeed there actually was some difference - so, none!
They are sold with or without bootable software (Windows) depending on mfg. I have bought 512kb, 2GB and 4GB USB flash drives. SanDisk cruzer (512KB, 2GB, 4GB) comes with Windows compatible FAT16 (I think) bootable software. On a PNY Technologies (2GB) USB flash drive which does not come with any bootable software, I partitioned and laid in a compatible file system for Linux Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon which has the property (now) of persistent storage, so that any changes I install to it are not lost after I boot it up and install the changes - i.e. between reboots from it onto my desktop from it.
Long story short: My new computer that had Vista on it originally crashed two weeks ago. I downgraded to XP. Now the internet doesn't work. My Network Drivers are missing.
So I hooked up my old computer (Windows ME) I upgraded it to XP. I got onto the HP website and the tech sent me 3 drivers: chipset, sound, and modem.
The CD burner on the old computer won't work. So I couldn't burn the drivers onto a cd and transfer.
I bought a USB Memory Stick. The computer recognized it, installed it. But it's not under 'My Computer'.
I went into Admin Tools and tried adding a new drive. It wouldn't work/I may not have done it right.
Try reinstalling the USB drivers or your motherboard chipset drivers.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/usb-memory-stick-245563.html
I have purchased a 4GB Memory Stick.
Every time I try to save a file I get the message "Please insert a disc in Drive I" and can go no further with the save.
I am using Windows XP
Doesn't sound like it's getting installed correctly - XP isn't liking the media. Do other flash drives work ok. Can you try it in another machine?
