Near Future New Build

Q: Near Future New Build

I'm not sure if this the right forum since it's been upgraded. I am thinking of doing a new build of the AMD FM2+ and here is what I think that I want and I'm looking for any suggestions about this build in it's entirety. This is what I've picked at part pickers so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/oldguy55/saved/44ya , I'm not really a gamer, but I do a lot of video editing, converting, bluray/dvd recording and music cds. also keep in mind that I will probably be adding more hard drives to this build as my movie library is increasing.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Near Future New Build

Ok, so since you do a lot of video editing, I would make numerous changes:
1) I would go for an Intel platform rather than an AMD platform since Intel CPUs are dominant when it comes to video editing.
2) If you arent going to overclock the CPU much, I would tone down the cooler to something like a Hyper 212 Evo.
3) I would tone down the RAM to about 1600MHz since 2133MHz doesnt make much of a difference when video editing (or even gaming).
4) I would replace the Digital Black2 HDD/SSD combo with a pure SSD.
5) I would replace the AMD GPU with something more hefty and nVidia based. I say this because nVidia drivers are usually more consistent and nVidia GPUs are generally better for video editing. BUT, if you are working with programs such as Adobe CC, then I would stick with an AMD GPU (more powerful than a 250X) since Adobe products make use of OpenGL for the most part and AMD is dominant at that.
6) Case is your choice. I personally recommend Corsair cases.
7) The PSU can be toned down to a 750W (Corsair HX 750) possibly, but I wouldnt go any lower since you are hoping to add more HDDs.
8) I would find a Bluray reader and writer all in one rather than having 2.
9) There is really no advantage to having Windows 7 Ultimate over Professional or even Home Premium. Ultimate just really allows you to install language packs (there are some other features that arent really important).
10) You dont need a Wifi adapter as long as the motherboard supports Wifi, but it matters on the board. We can determine that once we figure out the specifics.
11) Keyboard looks fine. I personally recommend the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 ($60) since you never have to replace the batteries and the keys are more tactile. But it is your choice.
12) That mouse is made for laptops, just so you are aware .

Sorry for the long rant, but I want to get you the best rig possible . I just need you to answer some questions first though, what programs do you use? How hardcore of a video editor are you (professional?)? Are the projects you work with in very high resolutions such as 4K? What is your price range for this machine? <--- this will help determine which CPU and GPU you can purchase (along with other parts).

I hope this helps.

Hi in the future I am planning a computer build that hopes to run upon a UEFI-install of -bit Windows Looking into the specifications for Fast Boot and UEFI mode and all that jazz it says I need UEFI Option Roms for my GPU as well as a UEFI motherboard However I am confused as to the actual requirements for UEFI only mode or rather fast boot I guess are they the same or associated I currently use a D-Link PCI-e wireless adapter card on my computer due to a lack of internal network wiring between my room and the location of the router so moving the router is out of the question as well since its kept in someone's bedroom It's a small house I plan to reuse this card for my next computer however GPUs require a UEFI-supporting Build, for UEFI Mode a Future info? A:Future of WP

I want to say Microsoft will not killing Windows Phone. There are some things. 1) Universal app. That makes for developers more interested and easier to build just app what works on more devices. 2) Continuum feature - this is one of things what will could change phone hardware. What I mean, I believe Microsoft will release phone with non-ARM CPU. This will give chance to run and use more apps for business etc. 3) If Microsoft kill own system than potential domination is left for Android and iOS. I dunno how many Microsoft can lost on new patents etc.

Is pci dying? I have yet to see high end sound cards be something else rather than pci and most new mobos are beginning to lack pci slots or the space reserved for pci is swallowed up by massive high end graphics card

Hi
I have been using XP for some years now and have got quite used to it. At my advanced age learning a new system is not likely to be easy, my wife uses Windows 7 and I find it quite unfriendly and I am reluctant to change to that or any other OS..
The questions I have are:-

!. Will Microsoft continue to authenticate my copies of XP if I do a reinstall?

2. If the answer to 1. is yes then how can I save the various update downloads to a CD so that I can return my computers to their present state following a reinstall. I already have a CD of SP3 but there have been lots of updates since.

A:Suggestions on my future PC?

I'll show you pretty much the most powerful system currently possible and you can work your way down from there unless you want an insane system like this:

CPU - Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Quad-Core 2.66GHz - $1700
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115011

Motherboard - ASUS P5N32-E SLI - $300
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131073

RAM - 2X Corsair XMS2 2GB Dual Channel Kit (Total 4GB RAM) - $280x2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145590

Video Card - 2X Geforce 8800GTX SLI - $630x2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130072

That system could multitask like hell. Could probably run 2 instances of Oblivion at the same time and still get 20FPS+ in both of em. That can play ANY game (besides oblivion) at 80FPS+ @1280x1024 guaranteed. Total cost for those parts is $3,820. You also need hard drives ($100) and DVD Drives ($40), Case ($50-$200) Power supply (1000W PLUS ONLY) ($200+). So the total there comes to around $4,200. Of course if you don't want to pay that much, the best 2 things to do are to get rid of one of the 2 videocards and to get a cheaper CPU.

As many of you know there are two security companies that often get confused Avast and AVG Shortly after I started as CEO almost years ago I remember giving a presentation to a large audience about Avast About an hour later a gentleman walked up to me and complimented me on how good the presentation was and how he enjoyed hearing about AVG That was my first lesson in how easy the companies are to confuse This confusion is because the companies are so very similar Both company names start with the letters AV Both started in the late s and were amongst the first few companies formed to fight the viruses and malware nearly years ago Both are historically Czech Avast was founded in Prague and is still based there while AVG was historically in Brno the two largest cities in the Czech Republic Both pioneered the free distribution of top quality security products although to be honest I must admit that AVG was first and we followed Both make great security products Avast Future and AVG: A Together Both are innovators with world class R amp D teams Both have most of their users outside of their home Czech market Both have had similar user bases for many years about M each And most importantly both treat their users with respect and consequently each has a large and loyal user base One slight difference though is that while Avast is a private company AVG is public and listed on the New York Stock Exchange In spite of this one difference these companies are so similar that it Avast and AVG: A Future Together is only natural that they be combined and that is what we are now planning on doing Under an agreement signed with AVG Avast will be making an offer per share or about billion Avast and AVG: A Future Together in total to buy all shares of AVG s stock which AVG s board is recommending their shareholders accept If the AVG shareholders do accept following the various governmental regulators approvals AVG will become part of Avast and we will jointly work on a great future together We expect this to take a few months Now this process is much more complex than this simple description and there are a lot of rules and regulations about the process and what we can say etc As a result at the bottom of this blog entry you will find a page of important disclosures that you should read if you are a shareholder contemplating being a shareholder or are just curious A Billion deal to buy AVG Avast to Buy AVG for Billion to Add Security Software Read More Avast and AVG A Future Together nbsp

I know patch Tuesday is soon to be a thing of the past. I believe MS will be pushing updates as and when they become available. My question is, have they already started doing this? The only reason I ask is because this week I have noticed some updates showing up out of cycle. I think one was recommended and a few came up in optional. I installed them all with no side effects. Could it mean this coming Tuesday we will be spared the large amount of normal updates? Fingers crossed!

A:Future updates?

The out of cycle updates were probably because one of those updates makes it easier for those in charge of lots of computers (domain administrators) to block some upcoming updates related to Windows 10 upgrade and the GWX data collection process. My guess is, MS wanted this update available before Patch Tuesday.

This is my first post.
We are using MSN browser and have had some issues so we called Qwest. They told us that MSN was having issues with IE8 and that Microsoft was probably not going to continue to support it any longer and we should look at using our Outlook 2007 for our email.

We have already pre-ordered Windows 7 and I'm wondering what to do. Windows 7 comes with IE8 and if MSN isn't going to work with it should I change over to Outlook 2007 now? Does anyone know if MSN works with window 7 and what the future of MSN Explorer is?

A:Future of MSN Explorer

I pay the 10$ a month for MSN Premium as well.

As soon as I installed windows 7 RTM I was through with it.

Have you never noticed now buggy MSN browser has always been. With many sites requiring a log-in it takes like aeons--when using firefox things move very quickly.

You can still use your @msn.com email account through Windows Live and hotmail and keep that @msn.com address.

The only thing one really got with Premium was the McAfee and a half-crippled web-root spyware scanner. AVG free is good and bit-defender is ok--I'm sure there are other low cost or practically free options.

Simply put MSN Premium is antiquated.

Winows Live and it suite>>mssgr, email etc are quite good---and, yes, outlook can be configured to work in tandem with windows live mail.

The only reason MS keeps the premium browser arond is to collect a portion of that 10$ monthly revenue from people that quite don't know better.

Welcome to Windows 7 Forums!

I have been on several forums that deal w/ Audio and get tooo many different responses

What MB would allow me to use say P4 630 3.2 then allow me to go Dual core later? Prefer ASUS.looking for something with built in 1394 firewire.
Do PCI slots in a pci-ex MB work faster(better) than a pci only MB?

I am on a budget trying to do MB CPU ram for under $500

thanks
S.

A:future proof MB

I am going to go in reverse order here.

PCI slots on a PCI express board will still be the same speed, no way around this, if the frequency or bandwidth were widened they would be PCI slots any more.

I would say stick with ASUS, but make damn sure it has an Intel chipset for an Intel CPU.

As far as a board that will let you upgrade to a dual core later, doubt it. Intel changes too many things with each revision of its CPUs, half the time a newer 775 won't work in an old 775 board and vice versa.

I wou;ld strongly reccommend looking into an AMD system. Any good 939 socket board will support a single or dual core CPU, and with the lead AMD has right now for performance especially with its dual core CPUs compared to Intel there is no reason not to go AMD.

Another great choice is to buy a socket 939 Mobo and later you will also have the option of going for a Dual core Opteron CPU, thats right a Workstation/ server CPU fits quite nicely into your 939 mobo.

I guess now that we see Windows 10 starting to take off in the form of the TP, I wonder what is the future of developing or refining Windows 8.1. We were going to get a second major update, but I guess that's now what the original Windows 10 build was. So will there be further improvements or refinements to Windows 8.1? Will there be more release of Internet Explorer for it?

In asking this, I realize and understand the support cycles, but I think we may be on the cusp of game changing marketing and maintenance of Windows by Microsoft. So I don't want to assume anything. And I realize that we can only speculate, but pondering the future is fun and interesting, so I'm curious what others think.

A:Future For Windows 8.1

The changes made in Windows 10 tech preview should really have been made in Windows 8.1 Update 1 (<-- Stupid name) or in the big 'Update 2' that never happened, so I'm not sure what Microsoft have planned for Windows 8.1. Hopefully the rumours are true about Windows 10 being a free upgrade for Windows 8 users, but a part of me thinks that if there's any truth in this rumour, that maybe it will only be for those who have a Windows 8 computer less than 6 months old when Windows 10 is released?

Internet Explorer will continue to be updated though, just as IE11 is still available for Windows 7 (although I think IE11 may possibly be the last version available for Windows 7).

Hi,

I'm a total newb to LAN's and was wondering if the network i'm planning on will even work so i drew a picture on my project (attached). All cables will be gigabit compatible as will be the switches. The reason i will have 2 switches is because they won't be in the same building. The uppermost switch will be physically next to the router to enable me to have gigabit connection between the DiskStation and the PCs/HTPC without having to change my router (in fact can't change it due to special firmware for my internet TV).

I'm worryed that plugging a switch into a switch into a router, with wireless on the end might not work?

I'd be gratefull for any help on this!

The signs were written on the wall - the ARM architecture has the potential to expand way beyond smartphones and tablets. Last weeks ARM yearly developer conference shows the way.

Put it all together and ARM is clearly laying the groundwork to expand beyond mobile phones and challenge x86 in netbooks and laptops, desktops and servers. The introduction of versions of Windows 8 and Microsoft Office for ARM-based SoCs from Qualcomm, TI and Nvidia should also be a big boost for the ARM architecture.

A:The future of the ARM architecture

Hi there
As far as the ordinary user is concerned - it doesn't matter what the underlying technology is so long as the USER INTERFACE is simple and easy to use.

If the hardware reduces power consumption well so much the better.

In any case techniques such as virtualisation can ensure that whatever technology powers the servers the end user can still continue to use systems they are used to using.

The ARM type of processor of course has the ability for people to create very large banks of low powered servers cheaply as shown in your post.

hello everyone,
am venu working as software developer, i code for applications based on snmp protocol
using core java.
can anyone say about the future of snmp, bcoz my friends say snmp is going out of scope
since too many companys have already made number of products on snmp ,
am little scared whether to continue in the same stream or what .
can anyone please give me some thougths on snmp future

thanks in advance

SNMP isn't going anywhere. There will always be overlays & other protocols running in conjunction with SNMP to capture such things as iops/process status/netflow/etc - but SNMP isn't going anywhere.

I was thinking about something.

USB 3.0 will have two separate wires for upload and download. Which is the reason it is so incredibly fast.

I wonder what kind of wonder this may do for Windows SpeedBoost. Intel says you can transfer a 27GB file in 70 seconds. Man, that's fast read/write.

I wonder if using a USB flash drive as RAM will be better than actual internal RAM chips.

I have a dell dimension 8400 and i think it uses intel 925x. Not exactly sure becuase i went to a few different sites to find info. Anyways, I was wondering what processors i could upgrade it to or what would be compatible with it like quad cores or duo cores.
Also im looking to add more ram and was wondering what kind of ram i could add. I think it uses DDR SDRAM. Can I add ram like pc 6400 ddr2 dual channel rams for that?

I m just posting this here since I ve got no idea where in this forum this belongs I ve just read an article on a KillerNIC future computing? of The supposedly a PCI addon ethernet fast ethernet card It sports a mhz processor and mb PC DDR RAM According to their website this product is aimed at gamers read people-with-too-much-money-and-are-willing-to-splurge-on-nonessential-hardware-believeing-it-will-make-them-more-popular interested in reducing their ping while playing games such as BF online It will also help in increasing gaming FPS since it offloads network processes on its mhz processor Now The future of computing? this is what I have in mind Is this the future of computing where all the CPU is is a glorified calculator set to calculate Pi to m digits We started off with offloading graphic processing unto video cards which is and always will be the best things in computing for gamers Lately we ve got Ageia coming out with their PPU Physics Processing Unit The future of computing? card which offloads some processing from the GPU Network Do we really need a mhz gigabit card Of course alot of people are sceptical about this especially with the introduction of the PPU Everything it does can be done by the graphics card so why not leave it to the graphics card instead of getting a new card which costs money If we had thought that way we d still be running D games on our CPU So is this the future A computer where addon cards do all the work and the CPU just crunch numbers How about with graphics will there be addon cards to specifically do the AA and AF How far will it go Just posting randomly but I d love to hear ideas and review this thread in years time and see what has changed nbsp

I have always used Firefox since the day it came out as Phoenix. Today I am having a real hard time trying to figure out what in the heck they are doing. I was using Fx 33 Beta 3 and then MajotGeeks came out with Fx32 Beta 4. I installed it and then it updated automatically to a different build of Beta 4.
The Mozilla Firefox Download site still has Beta 3 as a download:

Today they have come out with Fx 32.0.2 but Fx 33 Beta 4 is nowhere to be found on a Mozilla Site except the FTP:\ site.

The version of Fx 33 Beta 4 was crashing so many times that I removed it and went back to using the Final release. No wonder Chrome is surpassing Firefox in usage.

If you go to Mozillazine and look at today's build and then click on the Prior Beta 3 Build, the link takes you to Fx 31 Beta 3. This is just nuts.

A:Mozilla and Their Future

Strangely enough I have just today returned to Firefox after several years with Chrome, I am past the Daily Build phase so am just interested in the final release. Wa suprised how much the basic look and feel was similar to Chrome, (shared history I suppose), but am impressed so far. The issue with chrome is that they appear to be depriciating a lot of older technology support, in that a few of my media sites were not working, all are working fine in FF.

If the content providers decide to hold out onto technologies like Flash and Silverlight, while Google reduces support we may see an upturn in market share. I'm all for advances in technology such as HTML5 but browsers have to support the older tech untill the vast majority of providers are fully conforming to the "New" standards

The marketplace makes or breaks and the PC gaming platform is struggling according to some reports I've read Consoles are hardwired and are upgraded every three years or so but the PC keeps marching forward every gaming? PC What's future the for half year Gabe Newell was so upset with the quot walled in quot nature of Windows that Steam What's the future for PC gaming? is now porting games to Linux so all hope isn't lost Now there's talk of quot BGA quot or soldered-in CPU's for future motherboards I upgrade my PC as I can afford to but I feel like I'm driving on a highway that's steadily narrowing and choking In light of these rumblings would I be stupid to continue upgrading my PC by migrating to Intel's Haswel and a pair of Radeon 's What do you see in your crystal ball Thank you Windows Pro bit OS AMD Phenom II CPU Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard Megatrends BIOS FX chipset GB OCZ Reaper DDR system RAM Sound Blaster Recon D Fatal ty Champion sound card Dual Radeon HD GPU's in Crossfire CCC WHQL LG Blu-ray rewriter W PC Power amp Cooling PSU Verizon FIOS speedtest org ms ping Mbps download Mbps upload have had single digit pings on other days games on Steam

A:What's the future for PC gaming?

PC's are a major force in gaming. Who knows after the next-gen consoles are out. But at least the past couple of years, the best versions of the games usually were the PC ones.

Gabe Newell is just scared that the Steam marketplace will get eclipsed by the Windows Store which I think is silly to think that because there's tons to love for Steam. And people go where the best deals are and Steam brings it often enough. Newell/Valve wants their 30% cut of that software sale on Steam. If you buy the game in another marketplace, that's revenue lost. Everybody wants that 30% cut. Microsoft wants it. Steam wants it. Origin wants it. Ubisoft wants it. Apple wants it. Google wants it.

Right now, the various marketplaces are vying for exclusive titles and probably paying for that exclusivity. But like with anything, the money is on crossplatform titles so I bet you'll see the same titles across both Windows Store, Steam and other marketplaces. Microsoft is counting on the idea that you want your game achievements to be tallied with your Xbox achievements. Similarly, Steam is betting that you'll want to keep adding to your Steam achievements.

As gamers, it's better to focus on the games. There are no saints in business.

Now here is something you dont hear a lot of croncrete stuff about....
Searched for a forum on this subject but found none, so here you have it.
Some questions if you please:
-Should we be going wider and/or faster, faster?
-Should we be standardising more?
-Should we be focusing on getting the OS completely right? Should it be free?
-Is the future of computing best left entirely in the hands of Corporates or should there be some Governance?
-What is the best all round PC architecture?
-Why do they still cost so much?
-Why cant I add my new system to my old system and get the power of both?

Many more where that came from but lets open the discussion......

A:Future PC Architecture

1)The faster new technology is brought to the mainstream market, the faster prices on the "older" tech drops so it's a cycle that will benefit the consumer.

2)Standardization might help in some cases, but then that would mean either everyone has a gaming PC or they do not. That would be pretty limiting IMO.

3)Getting OSes right would not need to be the focus, since Service Packs/updates would eventually fix all the issues present in them. But yes, I do think they should be made cheaper. Free? I don't think that would help, since it would not give anyone incentive to develop something that's better and even if they do, they wouldn't be able to/willing to share it with the rest of the world.

4)Governments usually mess up things since in the end, they are able to get away with everything. Corporations depend on the end user's satisfaction to survive, so that would be a better thing. But a merging of the two ideas, such as greater governmental control over corporations regarding research wouldn't be such a bad idea.

5)This is debatable and bound to change, according to the first question, so it really isn't valid.

6)PC costs have reduced quite a lot since the late 1990s. So I don't think they cost too much.

7)Well that's because new tech always phases out old tech since companies need to sell the new tech more to earn more money to research more "new tech" and recover the cost/make a profit off of producing the recently released "new tech" that is going to become "old tech" in some years' time. They don't want you to use the old parts with the new ones since the new ones "perform better" and also get them heftier profits. And so the cycle continues...

Hi!

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. The current Tecra Z50 is extremely close to what I want in a notebook but the thing is, I currently don't really need it and I don't have the time to set it up. So I would buy one and have it lying around until late summer.

If I get one now and there's a new model out in summer, which I like even better, I would be very disappointed but on the other hand if I want to buy one in the summer and there's a new one with less connectors, a glossy screen with one of those extremely high resolutions or maybe without the pointing stick, it would be even worse!

So the question is: What can I expect from the Tecra Z50 in the future? I know that I probably won't get the information I need but I still had to post this.

Thanks!

A:The future of the Tecra Z50?

Future of Tecra Z50?
From my experience, Toshiba releases different notebook series within short spaces of time.
In most cases this applies to the ?everyday home? models like Satellite models.

The product life cycle of notebooks belonging to business segment like for example Tecra or Portege series is much longer? so from my point of few the Tecra Z50 should be available in the next couple of month.

But even if new models would be released, I think that older models should be still provided by some online dealers?

[email protected].C,

Your friend should log into the Hotmail website, then:

If she has a message from the person she wants to block in her Inbox, she should check the box next to the message and click the Block button. She will then get the option to block the individual email address or the domain (all emails from that domain will be blocked).

<img src="http://forums.techguy.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=907765">
If she does not currently have a message from the person she wants to block, she should go to Options > Block Sender. There, she should enter the other person's email address and click on "Add" then "OK".

Once you have upgraded to Windows 10 and activated, you are entitled to reinstall the Win 10 into the same computer as often as you want , whenever you want.
What you need to do then is to create a bootable Windows 10 media ( DVD or USB ) which you will use for re-installing.
For now the most current Windows 10 is 10586.
You can use one of the following links to download the ISO file, then burn the iso file to a bootable media,

You did the right thing. Now you need to check manually for the updates - in Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update.

Before installing anything, go thru the list of proposed updates and "hide" (right click on the update > hide) those that you don't want - then they don't come back. If you just deselect them, they will always come back at you.

Now I have 2 hdds, 1st Samsung 320GB 7200rpm T166 with a logical partition ans 2nd Seagate LP 1000GB 5900rpm with a primary and a logical partition.
Now I have Seagate 1st primary partition System Active and Samsung logical partition boot where I installed Windows 7.
I know it doesn't look good but after the Raptor failed I was certain that the Samsung had a primary partition.
In two weeks I will have an SSD and I want to install Windows 7 on it and I want to make the SSD System Boot, so it would boot the OS independently, without the hdds.
Can someone explain me how/what should I do?

What do you want to do?

When you get the SSD, disconnect all other drives and install Windows to the SSD. The process is no different than installing to a HDD.

Then reconnect your other drives and consider what to do with the data on them.

1 it reads like the processors will not run older Windows versions, but Windows 10 is not giving up support for those processors it runs on now.
2, When you hear that the remaining 9% of public service computers running XP have gone caput overnight in some final eXPloit then you should worry that the same fate will happen to 7. It hasn't, and it won't. If you use Windows 7 and no other vulnerable Windows product like Internet Explorer 10 and earlier, then your 3rd party antimalware etc., should protect you, unless you are an incautious internet user. How often do you get viruses up to now?
Finally, to use Mac OS legitimately you need to buy your hardware from them. If you want to run Linux, there will be little chance of finding new hardware that will not run it, or not finding older hardware that runs it too. If you buy new off the shelf hardware, it will likely have Windows (forget the 10) on it and you will be able to run older Windows on the machine in some capacity, probably as a virtual machine. There are alternative OS flavours, but do you really need another?

Then again, not all things go Microsoft's way, and there are more than one processor manufacturer for desktop, mobile and phone devices, so it will be up for grabs. Who knows what the next must-have revolution in edutainment-infocomms will be?

I purchased a Dell Inspiron laptop that came with Windows 8. I wiped Windows 8 and installed Windows 7. There were drivers missing and my wife took the laptop to my computer shop and had them install the necessary drivers.
I don't have a clue as to what drivers are needed or what ones were installed.
I would like to be able to download the drivers and write them to a cd-rom where I could use them if I ever have to reinstall Windows 7.
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks

A:Could there ever be an unstoppable virus in the future????

In answer to the Question, NO. Virus is code, nothing more. Bad people write it, good folks write the solution {fix}. Because computers are interactive, there will always be this little 'war' going on. The worst virus is the one you are hit with!. Never seen the film swordfish. Hello shoenan!

I'm using XP Pro and I'm very comfortable with it and don't feel like I need a new OS just because it's new. My 2 factors for deciding to upgrade depend on price and future OS plans from Microsoft.

For price considerations, I can get the full version of Win 7 Professional for $100. Should I wait to upgrade to Win 7 professional to see if prices will get better, or is this already a price that even waiting won't beat?

As for future OS's, is it worth it to get 7 if Microsoft is going to come out with a new one in several years? How long do you think 7 is going to last. XP's had a very long lifespan, so if it's going to be anything like that, I would consider upgrading. But if not, maybe I can hold on to XP for a few more years for the next OS.

Given these 2 factors, any recommendations?

I started with a pre-beat version in Dec 2008, then all the differenet versions to the retail release. Win7 will have a long productive lifespan. $ 100 is a good price at the present time. Try it, you'll like it.

How far in the future is this going to happen? I ask because Intel's Haswell platform should be out in a few months, and it may be the way to go.

As far as the other components go: the CoolerMaster case is a good one I believe....lots of airflow and lots of room. May be a little overkill though.

Corsair Vengeance RAM is what I use and have never had a bad stick from them.

As for the SSD, many here have the M4 and say it is a really good drive......you may want to look at the prices of the premium drives as they are coming down some. Samsung 840 Pro, OCZ Vector, Plextor M5 Pro, and Corsair Neutron GTX are all great drives that are probably the fastest out there.

The cooler you have listed is an awesome bang-for-the-buck cooler. I have recommended them plenty of times, however, if you plan on doing major overclocking, you may want something with a little more performance.

For the power supply, I usually recommend a full modular Corsair, or SeaSonic. The Corsair AX series is probably as nice as it gets, along with the SeaSonic X Gold series.......both are made by SeaSonic.

Those are just my general recommendations, but the list you have will definitely make a really nice gaming rig! I would definitely wait and see what Intel's Haswell platform has to offer, and it should be out very soon.

In regards to a product key: once you upgrade a computer from Windows 7/8/8.1, a digital entitlement for Windows 10 gets stored on Microsoft activation servers. After the initial upgrade, go to settings, updates and security, and the activation tab in the column on the left. You will see a result that says this computer is activated with a digital entitlement.

After you have the digital entitlement, to clean install the same version of Windows 10 on the same computer, if you are asked for a product key during installation click on "I don't have a product key", "skip", or "do this later". After Windows 10 is installed, when it connects to the internet it will retrieve the previously stored digital entitlement from Microsoft activation servers based on the unique hardware ID of that computer and activate itself.

my AXP1800+ (palimino core) uses a ddr-266 bus hence i have ddr-266 (pc2100) memory to run in "sync" with.

next cpu upgrade is likely to be the AXP2500+ or higher (barton core) running on a ddr-333 bus hence to run in "sync" with new pc2700 memory would be most beneficial as the ddr-266 memory would be lagging behind.

now here's the question, i'm essentially thinking 2 upgrades ahead by wondering if it would be a good idea to buy 512mb of PC3200 (ddr-400) soon for a few reasons:
1. backward compatiable with ddr-266/333 bus speeds
2. higher spec ram capable of more aggressive settings
3. will last me through to the eventual upgrade to a 400mhz bus when the athlon 64 goes mainstream
4. it's only ~£80-90 for 512mb which is cheap imho.

Anyone agree it would be a good idea to stock up now for the future whilst mobo and cpu catch up in the mean time?

A:Upgrading now to DDR-400 for future usage

The price difference between 333 and 400 DDR is very small now anyway, so it makes no sense to go for Ram which is already becoming obsolete. However, I would recommend running 400Mhz DDR at 333Mhz but with more aggressive settings (i.e. 400Mhz Cas2.5 should run at 333Mhz Cas2), as running 400Mhz DDR with a 333Mhz CPU is currently slower on most boards (except NForce 2) than running 333Mhz RAM, since they are not running in sync.

A:Formula for future date

You can try this, it displays the first of the next month

=DATE(YEAR(A4),MONTH(A4)+1,(DAY(A4)>=1))

When you see the * in your formula it can also be used as an "AND" condition, a PLUS + would be an "OR" condition but it depends how the formula is constructed as to whether it will calculate or interpret

eg...

This does not work..

=IF(B1=1 * B4=3,"True","False")

put brackets around...

=IF((B1=1)*(B4=3),"True","False")

Hi!
Is it just for one document, or he wants to have this date in every new created document?
The date should always change when he open the document or just the at the moment he creates a new document the Fridays'date is typed in the header and it will not change when the document is opened, let's say next week?

I know absolutely nothing about motherboards however it has to support at least 4 GB ram.
Specs so far:
Graphics card: Asus GeForce 8800GTX (I'll probably buy a 9800 instead of this though, but this is a placeholder)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 6850
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 320 GB *2 (Raid 0)
RAM: Corsair 2048MB,DDR2,64MX8, 5400,C4,Twin2X,4-4-4-12 *2

This puts me on 1085 euro by the way.
Lots of things will probably change because I'll have to wait for the 9800 to come out but I want to know how much this hardware will approximately cost me.

A:I'm buying a new PC in the near future, what mobo should I get?

The ASUS P5K series is a good board. Are you going SLI with that? Did you want to wait until DDR3 mobos come down in price or just opt for a DDR2?(what the P5K series is)

Basically you're looking for any socket 775 mobo. Mobos come in so many flavors because they have various features:
Raid with IDE, no IDE etc.
1 Lan/2 Lan
On-board sound: good/bad/crappy.
SLI or not
and very important if choosing SLI mobo, the chipset like IC9H for example.

I bought the least expensive (Celeron/60GB SSD) and brought the RAM up to 8GB ($40 on Amazon) and am going to install a refurb'd 750GB/7200 RPM/16GB RAM disk that I found for another $40 online. I'll keep Win10 on the SSD for fast boots and store my user files and media on the 750.

first off i'm going to explain Why im having trouble removing this virus it was written by some hackers who MAKE their living coding botnets not just anybody and the fact of the matter is this code is not future botnet reinstallers? of the released anywhere yet nor has anyone exposed this new software yet reason being i think theyre keeping a lid on it because it doesnt yet work they way they want it to remember these hackers are in a cut-throat world where the more infected machines they can deliver on a month-by-month basis makes them more money and any they loose to 'competitors' costs them pay -- or even their lives so keep in mind the future of botnet reinstallers? if i have machines that i cant remove the virus from even with total formats there the future of botnet reinstallers? are going to be million machines running this software in the next - years yes i may be acting dramatic but this is a real virus and i cant pinpoint where its coming back from how it's spreading or anything other the future of botnet reinstallers? than certain firewalls can block it from the net at least in part and that it requires an ntfs filesystem to 'live' in most likely the reason it isnt popular yet is their having trouble making it install a full botnet application after re-infection none of my infected machines are having any problems since i installed comodo v firewalls and the one machine that has a few issues with older games im switching to a fat- format since the virus cant live in a fat filesystem yes it Lives in the ntfs filesystem not in a file that can be scanned but in the 'white space' of 'reserved' blocks imagine if av anti spyware had to have an NTFS block reader to detect a virus anyways the logs will be last in this post and sorry but Dss crashes perhaps because of the virus so i just did the panda scan and the hijackthis logs fwiw im running vmware as a webbrowser now ill paste what i put in on the comodo fourms Ok first off this mystery virus is infecting different machines of mine has XP Pro and is patched up to date has xp home full retail again patched up to date has xp home oem and i have drive patched up to date and drive i installed specificially to find out more about this virus that is at sp At the time my systems were first infected they were only at sp level and all of them had XP Corp edition yes very bad having hacked pirated oses so what not everyone has an extra - at the time they buy a computer to allocate to an os and yes computers are getting cheaper every day all of these systems are at least years old at the time they were infected they had file sharing enabled on all three machines and only machines ran quot AVG quot free antivirus the rd had no av software at all currently xp home full and XP pro machines run mcaffee suite and the other one xp home oem runs comodo av well its not even on the net anymore as i do not have internet at my appartment but w e at the time of original infection the primary firewall was a linksys wireless router with zone alarm installed on all machines under the current config all three machines run comodo ver firewall the only anti spyware we used before was lavasoft's free product currently they all have bo clean now for the symptoms first off when windows is installed even on fully low level formatted drive a chkdsk error under ntfs comes that does not go away it is as follows although sometimes they find other problems especially if you havent chkdsk in a while quot Chkdsk Discovered Free Space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap quot Secondly Auto run is disabled magically with no user input whatsoever thirdly when a low level format and reinstall has been done the USB driver goes offline and the system 'hangs' for about minute thereafter the associated chkdsk error pops up prior the the usb going offline the chkdsk returns no error this all happens within a minute of installing windows if i wasnt a gamer i probally wouldnt have gotten chkdsk to run before the eve... Read more

A:the future of botnet reinstallers?

just need to correct myself after ive teted my machines harder.

i did some more testing, there is a more descriptive set of chkdsk errors before the one that repeats forever, i missed it the first time but caught it the second time around.

"\Windows\Prefetch\chkdsk.exe-2cc4c59.pf first allocation unit is not valid. the entry will be truncated." and "\Windows\Prefetch\cmd.exe-087b4001.pf first allocation unit is not valid. the entry will be truncated."
secondly when retesting the 'autoplay' becoming disabled did not happen (i attached a usb hd that had been connected as well to my 3 main machines, i was using an old scrap hd from a long dead system) but the chkdsk errors were still occuring on all machines reguardless of exposure to infected data. i later realized that machine had been networked with the other 2 when i product activated/patched that hd. and that was when autoplay became disabled (if the chkdsk thing is not some wierd sp2 bug that ms is keeping a lid on then its not the 'full' virus that disables autoplay and caused alerts on comodo firewall)

on a side note 3 games which did not work with the patched/autoplay disabled machine work fine on the system where autoplay is not disabled, but still has chkdsk errors.

as for formatting to be specific of what i did i used a old freebsd 2.2.2 cd set to 'erase' the hd, since it replaces the mbr with bootez (a freebsd bootloader) but i do not know if their format util was truly erasing the hds. but remember, i put in a factory sealed drive and had the chkdsk problems. (one drive i bought ~2 years ago failed under warrenty, so they sent out a rmaed drive.) so i dont know that using seagate/maxtor tools to wipe the drive will return any better results. besides the 2 drives that i was using to test were from long ago pcs i used 5-7 years ago or more. kept in a spare parts box... if the chkdsk/cmd programs are being modified on load (the error seems to indicate they had to be truncated) then its either something wrong with windows itself (causing the chkdsk problem) or else the virus is living in some other piece of hardware.

but im pretty sure the virus that is causing games to crash etc was transmitted via the network now. i kept tabs and on the surface all the cmd.exe and chkdsk.exes looked and appeared to be the same, but if the virus is in the filesystem it doesnt need to replace cmd.exe or chkdsk.exe. and i cant figure out why chkdsk would always find that the .pf files for cmd.exe and chkdsk.exe needed to be truncated EVERY time windows was installed.

Hello, I have been waiting to buy a netbook , but I've kept on hearing that they just keep on progressing and they keep on getting better, but that situation happens over and over again. That is why I have not bought one yet, because I want the best one. I've heard about these four major steps in hardware progress that will happen soon and I was wondering if anyone knows how long it will be before this stuff is on netbooks.

These major steps are:
1. USB 3.0
2. Bluetooth 3.0
3. Express Card 2.0
4. The faster 2Ghz Atom processor.

Can anyone predict how much longer I would have to wait for these to come to netbooks?

A:Future Proofing My Gaming Rig

Hey,

Most of the older games are written to be used with single core processors, so unless you are playing a very new game, then i cannot see any major advantages of dual/quad core over single core.

Unless the program is specifically designed to work in conjunction with multi core processors, then you will not gain any benefits - same as it would be if the processor was 64bit - the platform must support it.

If the game is single core threaded and you have adequate RAM/CPU/PSU/GFX then you will technically have a minor performance boost, though this is only because Windows can put it's drivers tasks and such on the second core whilst running the game on the first. If you have a high-end GFX, CPU but a low-cost and low-end RAM, you'll get nowhere and vice versa.

64bit processors should start becoming the norm' soon and is practically the only way to get past that 3.5GB of utilised memory barrier. You will notice that any x64 versions of games that have been patched to be used with x64 processors will run smoother and in essence offer better graphics and game-play.

Your system is pretty future proof to be honest and there's no need for you to really go to x64 Vista yet, atleast not until more drivers are made widely available for the platform. I won't be upgrading to x64 for a while yet.

Nick.

A:The Future of Security Software

"The future of security software isn?t just blacklisting. Instead, it will often be something more like whitelisting" - I agree with this to a point, but yet again you must also look at the point of where technology is heading, computers & mobile devices may just be a myth one day while bio-technology has taken over (as I think it will...) I think a better security precaution should be in place for that, but yet again 40 years from now computers and mobile devices may still be a thing.... who knows...

A:Future PC Specs .... good, bad?

Hey

First, I think you should upgrade from a normal 17" LCD monitor to a widescreen LCD monitor that's about 19". You'd be satisfied with that.

If you want your PC to be future-proof and be good for years to come, get about 2GB of RAM (2 x 1GB sticks). 1GB of memory is barely cutting it these days.

If you're building a PC around this time, a Core 2 Duo should be the optimal choice. Those other Intels you see that are cheaper and faster are not Core 2 Duos. You should pick a Core 2 Duo, because (to answer your question) yes, a Core 2 Duo is "faster" (not in the sense of clock speed, but other factors).

For your habit of multitasking, you just need enough RAM and a dual-core Processor, which should allow you to do many things at once.

For the motherboard, I would recommend a nice ASUS motherboard. Definately look for SLI support for future expansion. Make sure the chipset supports the C2D.

If your budget for a graphics card is around $500, then you should definately get a DX10 card. A GeForce 8800 GTS would be nice.

For your power supply, get something around the 600 Watt range, since your PC is going to be pretty high-end. With your budget, you should have enough money to get a high-end PSU, like the ones with more than two +12V rails, modular cabling, fancy lights, etc.

Finally, tell us what website you will get your stuff from, so we can provide a direct link to a product suggestion. Also, this being your first build, you should do quite a bit of research first (mainly regarding the products, since the "how to build it" part is pretty easy). An informed buyer is more likely to be a satisfied buyer.

Good luck with your build
