I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

I have installed the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 (a 32 bit program) in a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook with a 64 bit operating system and an Intel Core2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz processor, and it works fine, showing all the keys in my keyboard; I was able to create a custom layout that worked without a hitch. However, when I tried the same procedure on the computer described in my SevenForums profile, the program showed on screen only the external frame; it does not show any key, thus the program is useless to create a custom layout. So far as I can understand, it seems a rendering error, but I am humble user, I have tried downloading and installing recommended Microsoft updates and the software suggested by the MKLC 1.4 page, but to no avail.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestion.

I'm having the same issue. I used the MS Keyboard Layout Creator on Windows Vista without a problem. Now I have a new computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, and the keyboard on the creator does not appear, making the program useless.

I've looked on the Internet for solutions, but it seems no one with this problem has gotten an answer.

My brightness button actually enables the find option when pressed (usually happens when you press ctrl + f).  I do not have any aditional keyboard langugae options. I'm only using the English one. I do not have Num Lock on. I've restarted my laptop. I don't know what to do, please help.

I just built a new computer and installed a new Microsoft keyboard and mouse. Everything works except the function keys. They give no response at all on this computer but on my old computer they work fine and my old keyboard works good on the new computer.

I like the new keyboard better than the older one so want to use it.

Would there be drivers or something else needed to get this keyboard to work on the new computer?

Thanks

hey guys i just got a mac aluminum keyboard from goodwill for 20 bucks (i know win) but the keyboard works fine but i was wondering is there a way to make the function keys work like they do on a mac in windows 7? like there is function volume up/down and brightness up/down and like the dashboard button. could i make the volume/brightness buttons work and map the other function keys to other stuff in windows? like map the dashboard key to minecraft or something?

A:mac keyboard function keys on windows?

Key mapping is typically a function of the keyboard drivers/software. The name brand models (ie: Logitech, Microsoft, etc.) have this built into their software/drivers. There isn't a Windows feature or standalone/freeware option that I'm aware of.

I'm curious if such is possible. I have this keyboard, "Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 with Built-In Multi-Touch Touchpad":
Amazon.com: Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 with Built-In Multi-Touch Touchpad: Electronics

It comes with a row on function keys on top (F1 thru F12) that are mixed with different multimedia keys (play, fastforward, rewind, sound volume, etc.) It uses multimedia keys by default, and to use function keys I have to press and hold down the Fn key. For my purposes, I'd like to set up the function keys F1 thru F12 to work by default without the need to hold down the Fn key.

Can I set this up?

PS. Oh yeah, forgot to say, I'm using Windows 7 Professional.

Hi,

I got a laptop from work, and it has a very funny keyboard layout. In addition to English and Hebrew letters, some letter keys have numbers on them ('U' has the number 4, 'I' - 5, 'O' - 6 etc). I cannot type any of those letters.... the number keys from 7 to 0 do not produce the characters '&','*','(' or ')' when pressed with Shift held down, but rather behave like function keys or arrow keys.

Any idea how to make this keyboard behave more sensibly?

Thanks,
D.

Try pressing the num lk button in the upper right of the screen shot along with the same key that allows you to select the other keys that are shown in a box .

It appears that those numbers on the letters U,I,O,P,J,K,L,;,M represent a numbers key pad.

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

A:Keyboard - Shift & Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

I purchased a HP Pavilion dv4000, Serial #2CE6140029, in May of 2006. It is used infrequently, on road trips. Recently, after about two months of non-use, I started it up and was successful at the local WiFi Panera restaurant in getting my e-mail. After about fifteen minutes of use, when I hit the "k" letter on the keyboard an electronic stuttering sound started up and shortly, I had no keyboard use. The cursor works and I was able to go from program to program but, even in Microsoft Works Word Processor, no keyboard function. I have a friend who suggested that it might be a software problem. Please help. I understand very little about computers and computer jargon.

A:Fairly new laptop keyboard won't function

Welcome to TSG....

First thing it is advisable to not put your email address on any forum reason why spam bots just love them and you will most likely get a lot of spam. If you go back to that post and click edit then you can remove it.

Second with a non-working keyboard there are several things you can do.

1. Install a new keyboard yourself - a real pain especially if you never did this before

2. Try an external keyboard if the laptop has a PS/2 connector for it or a USB keyboard.

3. Contact HP and if the laptop is still under warranty they will tell you where to take it and if it is not under warranty they will still tell you where to take it.<g>

I have been having problems lately with some of the keys on my laptop keyboard. Sometimes when I press some of the keys they won't work, and sometimes pressing a letter once will make it register twice in a Word document. The laptop is about 4 years old, and I know that you can't do anything really about a laptop KB since it's built in, but is there anything I could try to see if I can fix the problem? It doesn't happen all the time...maybe I just need to buy some KB cleaning supplies to try and get under the keys?

Thanks in advance..

A:Keys on laptop keyboard won't work?

I had a HP that had similar problems, and it was indeed a bad keyboard. Luckily for me it was still under warranty. For low tech cleaning, you might try some compressed air to blow out dust/hair etc around the keys. If it is a bad keyboard, you may be able to replace it yourself.

Its hard cause they are scissor keys and dont have the spacing that standard keyboards have beteween the keys. Will a can of air work? Im not sure if the plastic tube will fit between to blow the dust out.

I occasionally turn it upside down and shake it like mad too, which helps.

Since a couple of hours ago, every time I press certain keys on my laptop (A Samsung satellite), instead of a single letter I get a two letter combination. Also, I can not backspace these letters individually. I have to hold it down and then it deletes the the whole two letter combination. The shift key, q key and backspace all seem to be a bit buggy. I've restarted several times with no difference.

Combinations: W=SW E=CE R=RT T=RT Y=UY U=UY I=KI O=O[ P=;P [=O[ S=SW, F=FG G=FG H=JH J=JH K=KI L=L' ;=;P '=L' C=CE

As you can see, they seem to be paired but it's not every key on the keyboard. It's more or less impossible to use to the keyboard right now (this is with an external keyboard)

Thanks for any help.

I assume you have rebooted it already? In most cases that indicates a faulty keyboard, was something spilled on it?

Also, are you sure it's a Samsung Satellite and not a Toshiba Satellite?

Help! I have a new laptop and seven keys have stopped responding. The keys are 0), -_, pP, [{, ;:, '", /? (I am on my old laptop) I called windows support and we did the selective start up and the keys started responding and then when I tried to use it again the keys stopped responding. I have taken out the battery and took off the key caps and made sure there was no trash. I know nothing about computers but do some crazy things. If anyone knows about laptops I would like any information you can provide. Thank you

As of the moment, I am typing with the help of an onscreen keyboard.  I couldn?t point out exactly what precipitated this problem since it was working fine a day before. The keys that stopped working are: 1 3 -   [second row]q, t, u, p, ] \    [third row]Caps lock, s, d, g, h, j   [fourth row]m, right shift    [fifth row]upper key [sixth row] I?ve tried every possible method to troubleshoot the problem (restarting it, removing the battery, updating drivers, re?installing drivers, resetting the laptop) but none of it work.I?d appreciate if you could help me out. Thanks!

I bought a laptop that has a horrible keyboard layout without noticing (the funny thing is i inquired about the tiniest detail in the laptop, yet i didn't notice the keyboard's layout).

Anyway, the problem is that next to my space bar there are "| \", "Ins", "Del" and "Alt Gr" keys (i'd really love to shoot the guy who made it). Now what i want to do is remap those buttons to this order : "Alt", Windows key, menu key, "right Ctrl", just like a standard keyboard. How can this be done?

I already tried KeyTweak, but it's not working. Is there any other good utility i can use? i'm using windows XP Home SP2 on my laptop btw.

any help is MUCH appreciated

Check the device manager for any red/yellow flags. Expand the keyboard branch in Device manager and un-install ALL. Right-click on each, select uninstall. Then re-boot; Vista will re-install the drivers.

So what's happening is occasionally, while I'm typing, it repeats letters, as if the keyboard temporarily locks up. (Sometimes, but it's rare because I usually type continuously, it just stops me from pressing keys for a bit.) It's like "Hello my naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..."
And what's weird is it only happens after I pressed any of the lock keys before (disabling doesn't fix it.)
I'm using a keyboard connected directly to my PC, with up to date drivers.

So I've been asked to give my Mom a hand with her laptop It's a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga though the website seems to drop or parenthesize the IdeaPad part of that running a bit version of Windows Two keys aren't working the F increase screen brightness key and the PrintScreen key This is why we just discovered it no idea when the error cropped up I've found workarounds for all of the things the keys do - brightness can be adjusted in Power Options and the F and PrintScreen functions can both be duplicated using the on screen keyboard function But they're kinda annoying and cumbersome and the error may be symptomatic of a larger problem I've tried rebooting the computer on - Lenovo Keyboard keys Dead laptop and cleaning the keyboard thus far to no avail though it is using one of these stupid new chiclet keyboard styles which makes popping off keys and cleaning the actually functional part of the keyboard impossible through the normal convenient method I've used in the past The keyboard was replaced relatively recently and I will be getting in touch with the gentleman who handled that when his store is open tomorrow I'll also be checking with the official tech support people at Lenovo but I find this and other fora are usually much better at cutting through that ploddingly systematic approach that big Dead keys on Keyboard - Lenovo laptop tech support divisions use and finding the real problem in a reasonable timeframe If either of these resources pays off I'll post the solution here as well Thanks for your time

Within the last week my Sony Viao laptop keyboard started acting up. The dash key, delete key, home key, no. six key, and a few others just don't work anymore. More and more are not working.

I use it everyday, several years old. I do eat food over it occasionally. Tried cleaning under the keys. Didn't fix.

A virus (I had a recent virus attack so bad had to reformat hard drive; but keyboard worked immediately afterward).

Any guidance greatly appreciated. I'm afraid I'll soon lose all keyboard functioning and will be up the creek. I don't have a lot of money, can't just buy a new computer.

You haven't given much information to go on so a few questions first.

What was the problem that made you buy a new keyboard ?

What make and model is the laptop ?

Does the new keyboard have the same key layout as the old one ?

You don't need drivers for keyboards unless you change language or similar.

Hi goodlad,

You should try an external keyboard with the system. If external keyboard works fine then you should consider replacing the internal keyboard.

As due to usage and time keys stops responding. However if the similar issue occurs with the external keyboard then it might be a software related issue.

Please check the same and let us know if you require further assistance.

Hello Sir,

I seem to be having a similar problem. Only the keys, Home, End, Right & Left direction keys arent responding. An external USB keyboard key is working. This led me to believe it could be a hardware issue (moisture etc.) however the new keyboard i order for my vostro 1014 (dell) laptop had the same issue, hence leading me to believe it is a software issue i.e. driver issue.

I have tried updating my driver it tells me its up to date. Have tried uninstalling it and on restart windows reinstalls my driver. I tried going on windows forum (Microsoft) and they were rambling about a possible Hotfix replacement. Please advise and let me know what do i do.

I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ57-200tu Notebook and keyboard keys not working correctly. You can resolve this issue by checking the keyboard language.  Please note remove any and all USB devices. This has helped others. Here is a link to keyboard troubleshooting. I hope something here helps. Thanks.

What system update, windows update, a driver update? This is pretty vague.Could the update be coincidence and the keys are broken? If you boot to safe mode with command prompt try them then.Maybe the keys themselves are damages in which case you need a new or new old stock keyboard. That's what I would do, test the keys in a command prompt window and if they don't work there get a new keyboard.Do you have access to a usb keyboard to see if it's the keys or some weird OS thing?

Hello ,
I have Dell Inspiron 3543. purchased on august 2015 . Its speaker and some keys of keyboard are not working . I updated all the drivers. I did Laptop's factory restore step. But none worked.
I had shown the issue to few hardware engineers for issue confirmation. They all said It has keyboard and speaker issues. Contact to dell support as one year is not completed.  But Dell support is saying the product is not under warranty and contact dealer.  I contacted dealer. Dealer said we have updated the warranty.
To whom should I contact now? How my issue will get resolved?

A:Home Keys on laptop keyboard disabled/not working properly

firstly I would recommend downloading and installing all of the latest drivers for you laptop. especially any chipset and or ones directly related to the keyboard (most laptop keyboards use default windows ones so theres nothing to update, but laptops with hot keys and multimedia keys tend to use their own)

something else you can do is plug in a usb keyboard and test it, if the same keys on a usb keyboard dont work its not hardware related.
simply googling G7 keyboard throws up hundreds of user complaints so its not exactly a first time event theyve known to fail.

After 'recovering' my P4 1.8MHz, XP-Home PC, I found that he keyboard was different - I no longer have the 'Pound' key - I get the # instead. Also, the @ symbol is at Shift+2 and the " symbol is where the @ symbol should be. There are quite a few other major differences too.

I tried 'troubleshoot' - to no avail. I've bought a new Logitech keyboard - and the layout is exactly the same! HEEEELLLPP!!

Can anyone suggest anything??

Hello,

I have the win8 upgrade (previous OS was win7 ultimate).

The OS goes very well, so far, just a minor problem...

From time to time I noticed there is installed a US keyboard, I am UK based and any setup keyboard/date etc are in UK format. Also when I installed the windows I selected (autodetected) the UK settings.

Well, this is very strange...

Also, I noticed that the US keyboard does not exist on the layouts (I am using Greek and UK), so in order to get rid of this, I have to add and the remove the US keyboard, but after a while re-appears!

thanx in advance for any ideas/help...

chris

A:Keyboard layout!

Did you reinstall the keyboard driver from keyboard vendor? In windows it will install the generic driver just so the device will function but to use the keyboards full functionality you have to install the keyboard driver. With the auto detect enabled windows will sometimes install the incorrect drivers.

You have it already, you just have to change your preferences, and you may need your XP CD as well. Go to Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/ Then under Language you can change it to UK and under Location you can change it to UK. Then go to te Languages tab/Details click Add and change the Keyborad setting to UK. Then go to the Advanced tab and change the language to UK. then click Apply all settings to current user account and default user profile. and click Apply then OK

Hello Johannes

I do not know which Portege notebook you have but Googling around I am pretty sure you can find keyboard with German layout. Second solution to this is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They can order the right keyboard for you.

Oh yes, the one more thing: check eBay. There you can find so many hardware components for different notebook models.

Hi,

I am using a XP pro sp3 and yesterday I just installed a Japanese Office 2007. The Office 2007 runs with out any problem.

The only problem I having is that my Computer doesn't recognize my Japanese keyboard. It is using a English keyboard layout on my Japanese keyboard.

I did change the setting at "Regional and Language" to recognize Japanese keyboards. But it is as if my XP only has the standard keyboard in it and no other.

Do I have to reinstall the XP again?
Is there a other way to make my PC recognize a Japanese Keyboard?

Thank You

hmm... Its just a guess, but I would wonder if you would need to install some kind of Japanese language pack ? I remember turning all these languages off (that's all I really know about them), but I'm wondering if one of the functions of the language packs would be to enable the keyboard to be used for other languages ?

Hello, i've been using windows 8.1 for a little time in my new Sony notebook. First, i used windows 8 and had no problems, my keyboard layout was the correct one (Spanish - Latin Am?rica, 'cause i'm from argentina). But after an upgrade to windows 8.1, the default layout was set to Traditional Spanish wich does not suit the layout I see on my keyboard, signs are misplaced. I went to the control panel and under the idioms settings i set Latin American layout to my keyboard, but even with the correct configuration (checked with the layout image that is shown in the configuration menu), signs like ? and @ are still misplaced. What can I do? It really piss me when i try to write something and realise that it's not where it should be. Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English.

I recently replaced my laptop's keyboard, but it has a slightly different layout for the bottom row of keys. The left shift is much larger and the first key from the left shift is 'z' and the '\' has been moved near the right shift. So, this means all the keys in the UK layout on the bottom row have moved one space to the right. I can't find the corresponding layout. I am running Win7 on a Vostro 1520.

Here's a picture of the Keyboard.

Hello:

I use US Dvorak as my primary keyboard, but I type most of my passwords in standard US QWERTY layout. In Vista, I can change the icon for the different keyboard layouts so at a glance I can tell if I am in the correct keyboard layout when I'm in, for example, a password field where I can't see what I type. Is there any way to do this in XP? Does anyone know of any programs that would accomplish the same thing?

I understand English is probably not your first language, but unfortunately, it is not clear from your post exactly what your problem is. The posts in the link I give above cover many problems people have with Japanese keyboards and the ability to switch backward and forward between them. Most if not all problems seem to have a solution, so hopefully you also will find one that helps you in that long series of posts. Good luck.

Hi all, I'm having a major stress. I don't know why it's happened but my keyboard has gone from UK layout to US (the @ and " positions have swapped as have |#|).

I've spent ages looking for help on this forum and others, googled the h*** out of the sucka, but I can't work out how to get it back. My main problem can be seen from the screenshot below (I hope).

As you can see, for some reason I have no default keyboard layouts. What can I do to get them back, reinstall them or what ever so my layout is restored to UK. I'd rather not have to install a 3rd party app, and I'm comfortable with writing something to the registry if need be.

I've also noticed during this that I can't see the language bar, and can't restore it.

I'm running windows 7 home prem, with sp1 (aparently all the latest updates).

Appreciate your help

Language bar is not available yet, because you do not have any input languages installed. Use the method I described to add languages, and after that language bar can be available.
