I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently did a factory restore on my laptop since it was giving me really bad problems before BSOD on boot unable to start in safe mode etc I assumed that black failure; Laptop followed random by screen colors screen it was caused by a bad video driver installation Once I did my factory restore this problem was solved but it seems like a new one arose In the first few days the laptop was working fine but I recently realised that if I unplug my AC Laptop screen failure; random colors followed by black screen Adapter my laptop would work for awhile but will eventually die The screen would just go black then I would see weird colors and then it would go black again and I would be forced to hold the power button and restart The funny thing is this never happens when I have it plugged in I then realised that it happened when I plugged it out and moved it around so I assumed it had something to do with the wiring inside my laptop But it seems that isn t the case since even if I move it around while it s plugged in it doesn t happen I m pretty sure it has something to do with my power supply at this point but I m not really sure If anyone can help I would really appreciate it EDIT It just happened to me as I tried to access my task manager I did CTLR ALT DEL and my screen went black and my laptop simply restarted itself nbsp

A:Laptop screen failure; random colors followed by black screen

EDIT: It seems it has gotten way worse. It happened while it was plugged in, and not only that, but when I tried to turn on my laptop again, the screen remained black and I heard these beeping noises. (6 beeps in succession, over and over) Sometimes I turned it on and it didn't even beep. I managed to actually get my laptop to boot, but I'm afraid it will happen again.

Dear Techguy fellows I m having a bothersome problem whenever playing games lately I started having this problem almost year ago but it was something which would occur on a black during games Distortion and [Nvidia] screen rare occasion and without the issues that I m Distortion and black screen during games [Nvidia] going to explain to you now During some really heavy games after some hours the screen would become distorted like rippled in a strange way though not entirely It was a bother but it wasn t that much of a hassle except for the fact that I couldn t properly see what was going on The first game with which the issue showed was Assassin s Creed II I tried to save pics of this strange phenomenon but to no avail because curiously the screenshots are perfect without no distortion at all After so many months I installed Borderlands and Guild Wars and the problem re-presented itself far more aggresive than before not only the screen would flicker and become distorted it would also become black making the computer freeze on the spot After so much time and under suggestion of a friend I ve decided to post here asking for help Since it s impossible to take screenshots because they look perfect I ve modified images to make them look like the problem which afflicts my poor laptop lately http img imageshack us img deadrising mod jpg http img imageshack us img gw mod jpg I ve tried searching for similar issues but no one would either describe the same problem nor trying to do something at it in other forums so I m searching here My hypothesis are - The gpu is failing on me after so many years of good work sob The heat and the dust after so much time are probably destroying the computer from within At first I thought it was a driver related problem because sometimes the driver update installation would fail Also steam installed his third party drivers once overwriting the original series - Driver failures nonetheless I ve recently used DriverSweeper and the latest version of Nvidia drivers to fix the issue The drivers seems to be ok now the problem still persist - The screen is getting owned from time and use somehow I don t know if the screen can be the main point of the problem because after the first drivers-update failure it started flickering and keeps flicker randomly from time to time Now I ve become used to it and it s not so persistent but it isn t a nice view indeed - The cpu is overheating as well she can t help with the gpu fan I ve tried to lower the clocks also to improve the fan speed of the gpu but the latest nvidia drivers do not allow for such option and not even RivaTurner with the Power User value inserted -some of the issues up here put together that s possible Really possible I ve also tried to understand which are the triggers that makes this happening because sometimes the problem does not appear - when playing games like Darksiders or other apparently heavy games which go well here I think it s because of the optimized graphic engine which allow the gpu not to get overheat - When playing Guild Wars which is a relatively old game that I installed just recently about - weeks ago the problem appear quicker than with other game and I mean real quicker Maybe it s because it s really heavy with all the people online and my usb internet connection is not one of the best loading heavy contents slowly and constantly - Mass Effect which is still optimized by the Physx drivers presents the same problem not as fast as GW but we are there Then again the Physx puts more work on the gpu don t they - Curiously the games which fail most are the ones which requires Windows to turn off Aero and switch to the Basic Theme I ve started to think that maybe that could be one of the trigger but changing theme even one of the themes with higher contrast doesn t really help -When playing old games the problem did not appear unless I remember badly I can t monitor the temperature raising level properly because lately the screen abrup... I recently did a hitmanpro, piriform cc cleaner, part of defrag, and when hitman pro rebooted my computer it now logs to a black screen when I log in. I tried doing a restore point, but nothing. The desktop and stuff shows up in safe mode but in regular mode it's just a black screen with a cursor and I have to manually start explorer.exe through task manager. What do? x-x

A:Windows 7 64 logs to black screen- have to manually start explorer.exe

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,

If Hitman Pro rebooted the PC it was because if was trying to clean some malware, right? Then I guess Hitman Pro is stuck/failing or the infection is preventing the PC to start.
If you don't have a system image backup you can restore, you can try using a rescue disk to clean your system. For example Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10

Another thing you can try is Using Last Known Good Configuration - Windows Help

So I just got this computer two days ago. When trying to play games such as League of Legends or Diablo 3, I randomly get a crash. I don't get any errors, the game just crashes and is stuck on a black screen or the color of the area I was in the game. Only way to fix it is to manually turn off the computer and turn it back on.

Do you still need help with this issue?
I must advise you that I've worked these issues for years - both online and at work (I'm a PC Tech).
The end result in most cases is inconclusive - and the only "fix" is either a System Restore or a "wipe and reinstall"
Those that we have solved have ended up being drivers for 3rd party (non-Windows) hardware (things like chipset drivers, storage controller drivers, video drivers, even networking drivers)

I'll gladly help to work on this, but don't want to foster hope that this will be an easy fix.
If you do still need help, please post this info (even though you haven't reported BSOD's):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

I am trying to fix my friends computer which is having several weird issues. When you login everything appears to be normal but Windows loads to a black screen with a cursor. Ctrl + Alt + Del to task manager and I can run explorer.exe to restore the desktop. However the problem now is once your at the desktop all programs when you try to run them pop up with an application failed to run side-by-side configuration is incorrect. these problems are not apparent when the computer is ran in safe mode, but I can not figure out what to do. I checked the registry HKLM software windows nt logon and explorer.exe is the value.
Malwarebytes when ran in safe mode does not detect anything either.

A:windows logs in to a black screen, programs have side by side config

Some possibilities: this application failed to start because side-by-side-configuration is incorrect

Was this computer upgraded from Vista to Windows 7? If so that may be the cause. You can try doing a Repair Install of Windows 7 to see if that corrects the problem.

Hello,

I have been having this problem since a week or so. Broni has helped me in malware forum to rule out malware as responsible. My machine is clean and I was refered here for further help.

Here is my problem:

At boot-time, I see windows XP load screen with the progress bar, the progress bar advances to the end and then, the screen turns pitch black and all is see is an arrow cursor I can move around. I thought until yesterday that this was a permanent freeze-up, but if I wait, say, 6 minutes, the black screen disappears and windows then starts normally.

Last week, problem was intermittent, it now happens all the time.

Windows boot-up was fine before.

Please help me.

A:Windows load screen at boot, looong black screen, then normal startup

I had this tons of times with my old XP PC. It is normal if you have a lot of files on the HDD and you have little RAM. How much RAM do you have? What is the capacity of the HDD? And do you have the Windows XP disc? Would you be willing to upgrade the RAM and/or the OS if we must resort to that? Or would you rather just buy a new PC?

Hello,

I am encountering an issue of when the Dell optiplex 755 boots up, it boots through the Windows XP logo just fine, once it tries to transition between the logo and loading the system up, it just shows a black screen and nothing else happens. I tried using a bootable Windows XP flash drive to repair the system files and it loads the Windows XP setup ok but when it runs through all of the commands on the bottom of the screen and the last one says "Starting Windows" , it takes me to a blue screen (screenshot below). I have HIRENS and have done a lot of the chkdsk commands to fix the files and everything comes back ok. I tried to clone the hard drive with the same exact hard drive and still the same issue. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.

A:UKash Screen Block Resulted in Black Screen Windows Not Authentic

Hi NickyJane,

We'll start with ComboFix. If it doesn't take care of the remaining issues, AVG may have caused more problems than if it had left it alone.

Download ComboFix from here

* IMPORTANT- Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

====================================================

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications as they will interfere with our tools and the removal. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to our sticky topic How to disable your security applications

====================================================

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

NOTE: If you encounter a message "illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion" and no programs will run - please just reboot and that will resolve that error.

I will return this evening - we'll continue then.

A:Windows 7 splash screen, then black screen NO Safe Mode

sorry for bumping. it seems people get a lot of responses to their questions and i was hoping to get the same kind of response.

Bottom line is, my computer tries to load Windows (7) with the splash screen, then goes to a black screen with an arrow and stays there.

I am unable to boot to safe mode.

I am unable to do a recovery from booting from the Windows 7 Install CD

I am not sure what's wrong, but I have uninstall nvidia drivers that gave me problems ie. 257.21, 196.21....etc. I am currently using 195.62. I am certain that it was a VGA driver problem, because it never happened again, till I decided to remove windows internet explorer and it did the black screen thing again. It restarts and instead of showing windows splash screen it shows a black screen. When I am at the black screen I can't do anything, I will have manually restart and when it boots up the second time it will load windows. It's ____ me off. I hope someone can help me here, and I appreciate it. Atm I am gonna reinstall IE 8 and let's hope for the best.

PS. I just bought this new HDD WDVELOCIRAPTOR 300GB. So it's brand new. Don't know what's going on.

A:Restart leads to black screen before windows 7 splash screen

Hmmm! Been having the same problem myself with 7 ultimate 64 bit. It only happens on a "restart". Cold boot works OK.
I just hit my reset button, get message to do startup repair or start windows normally.
Select the "normal" and all seems to work OK???????
I'd be interested if you can find a resolution to this issue. I gave up on it!!!

Watching a video in Windows Media Player...I wanted to get a screen of a part of the video. So I press PrintScreen...and travel over the MSPaint. Hit paste..and lo and behold...the screen is there...except the video is still playing! LOL

I tried to pause the video..then save. But when I reopen, where the video should be it is black. Is there a way to make screen grabs of videos in WMP? Thanks

A:Windows Media Player: Screen Capture (black screen)?

I think this question has been kicked around before, I just don't remember what the answer was or how to query the search base here for it.

I'm going to move this to the All other Software forum, since it is really a Windows Media Player, not an XP question; I will edit the topic also.

Perhaps one of the denizens there will recall this one.

Here's one I remember: try IrfanView, it worked when I tested it.

A:Windows Vista black screen, no bootup logon screen

It may be that someone didn't turn off the PC rather that it experienced a damaging event and shut down.Suggest you check the RAM - remove and reseat and try rebooting. If not successful your mother board may be damaged - nasty thought. There is also this site which may be relevant.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831515If you can get your PC going suggest you check Event Viewer. Then restore files from the recycle bin and then use SHIFT/DELETE to get rid of them, delete a small file and see if emptying the recycle bin works OKPaul

A:BSOD (black screen and windows startup screen freeze

Ok 116 error is caused by your Graphics card.
First thing to do is update your drivers from the NVIDIA website.

If BSODs continue Try HDD tests,
download gpu-z to check if your card is getting too hot, also is there lots of dust in the card?

Do you overclock your video card?

Good Morning,

For the past several months I have been having problems with my HP desktop computer. When my system reboots I sometimes get a black screen with nothing on it or it gets stuck on the windows logo or I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

The blue screen tends to happen with the computer goes into hibernation. So I changed my settings to that it doesn't happen but I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

I have checked for malware, viruses you name it... nothing.

HP HPE-180t
Windows 7 SP1
Intel core i7 930 @2.80GHz

If you need further info please let me know. ;)
ps I had wonderful support several years ago regarding my laptop.. thank you once again :)

Hello Britt,

I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

The best way to do this is to simply turn it off; it will also save on the electricty bills too.
When I am not using my machine, I turn it off, because here in South Australia we have the second highest electricity charges in the world.

I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

Can you tell us what the blue screen says; usually this is due to a recent hardware or software change; however, in your instance it might be the Hibernation feature that is malfunctioning.
Post back with the information about the blue screen, please.

Kind Regards,

Hey all,
I am having problems with the screen freeing when running multiple windows (Chrome, office etc etc). When I try to swap between windows, I get a freeze and I am unable to do anything.
The cursor can be seen moving around the screen but has no effect in any area. The Windows Key doesn't ppear, nor can I tab into another programme.
If I try and start task manager to see which program is causing this, it will not appear over the frozen image.
Is there a way of telling from an event log what program is failing?

Problem:

When I boot from the Windows 7 DVD the installation screen comes up in 8 colours only and the screen res looks like 640x480 on a screen that normally runs at 1600 x 1024 (this is what the original Windows XP installation ran).

Windows XP ran fine and did not have any of these problems (with the installer).

I am reluctant to proceed with the installer as I would prefer to iron out this problem before pushing on with the complete install.

Has anyone else seen this?

I believe it's because there's no driver on the dvd for your Card. Just continue the installation and windows update will probably staighten this out in the end. If not, then go to the Nvidia site and see if they have the drivers.

Hello

I have a computer running Windows 7. Last night the computer was running fine. This morning when I turn it on, i get a black screen. To fix the problem I conducted a system restore. After it finished restoring, the computer restarts and everything worked fine. To make sure if everything was in working order, I restart it again. After the "Starting Windows" screens comes up, I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can't even read what the error says because the computer just restarts itself. I did not connect anything new to the computer. I performed a hardware diagnostics to see if it was a hardware failure but no error was found. I can't even get into safe mode. The SFC.exe will be my next step.

The SFC.exe did not work either.

Hello. Recently had a virus and have been going through the steps here on bleeping computer to help get rid of it. The last thing I was told to do was run the farbar scan tool and to copy and paste a code and hit fix. Upon doing so the computer prompted for a restart. It now won't get to the log in screen. I've tried booting in safe mode and I've also tried last known working configuration as suggested and nothing has worked unfortunately. I was told to come here. Hopefully something can be done. Thanks a ton.

A:Windows won't get to login screen, black screen and cursor

Tap F8 at boot and select Repair Computer from the Advanced Boot Options. Do a System Restore to a date just before the problem.

You cannot do the above and if you have another Windows 7 computer create a System Repair Disk. Boot and try a System Restore to a date just before the problem.

So I've hit this issue where I am welcomed with a black screen which is supposed to be my login screen It boots up but what would look like the login screen is simply black When moving the mouse the cursor would emerge whilst changing from pointing to loading cursor animations The wifi icon from the lock screen seems to flicker sometimes but that's pretty much it nothing could be done from my end I've tried resetting restoring from the advanced boot options triggered by constantly interrupting the bootup process but it's telling me it cannot be login Black Windows to prior screen 8.1 screen done since the location of the OS is not quot unlocked quot Safe mode with networking command prompt gives me the same result Unfortunately I do not have a system restore point nor a system image to use The command Windows 8.1 Black screen prior to login screen prompt from within the repair does not let me use sfc scannow too Brief history of what happened beforehand I installed the Uxtheme patcher to enable third-party themes then before rebooting installed an application called StartIsBack After rebooting it seemed fine and I changed my mind and decided to uninstall StartIsBack It turns out the aforementioned program brings a cavalry of bloatware before you could uninstall it After I got rid of the extra software it came with I proceeded to delete each part of StartIsBack from its respective directories but it wouldn't let me delete its core StartIsBack dll because it is running in the background There is no sign of it as well within the task manager So I had to boot to Safe mode to manually delete it and finally getting rid of it After rebooting normally the explorer exe didn't open upon start-up Opening it manually by launching it from the Task Manager doesn't work either so I decided to try and use SFC scannow to try and fix the problem It reported that it wasn't not able to fix some of the errors found and changes will take place after the next reboot After rebooting I am greeted with the black screen issue tl dr is there a possible solution to this without having to format my os partition and or installing a new one If I really have to is it possible to just delete C and perhaps install Windows over it My media files are in D

Update, seems that some tweaking did fix the problem, go to search and type power, in the left click on the one that says change what power buttons do, then uncheck the box that it says turn on fast startup (recomended) then save changes and a restart and youre done -at least for me it worked-

Hi was wondering if others experience this. Trying to figure out the cause and if there is a fix.

When I turn on or restart my computer after the teal windows logo with the spinning wheel the screen will flash off quickly then come back on black and then 10 seconds later show the lock screen.

It's kind of annoying to have this delay happening and wondering if it's normal or something that can be fixed.

A:Black Screen after teal windows before lock screen

Hi BFG,

That sounds normal to me. The only variation might be "how long" you pause on the black screen (while your boot is being processed). Now, for some, that black screen might flash for only a few seconds but for others, it could last quite some time. My advice is to do nothing and live with it.

I'm having a weird problem. My laptop will show a black screen when booting. It seems no matter how long I wait, nothing happens. When I attach an external LCD to the laptop, it shows the Windows load or Windows resume graphics on the external monitor, but not on my laptop screen. As soon as the Desktop Screen with the Windows Login appears, it then appears on my laptop as well.

I also can't seem to get to safe mode. I push f8 and it never comes up I haven't installed any new software or hardware to cause this.
Any thoughts?

A friend of mine asked me to look at his old XP machine because it simply will not fully startup. It does make it through the initial boot routine and the "Windows XP" splash screen appears but, shortly after that, the screen goes black. All you can see is a black screen with a white cursor in the middle of it. The system does not respond to mouse or keyboard input.

I used a Hiren's Boot CD boot disk to look around his system. He has about 40% free space left on the hard drive which seems to function correctly. I am presently running a virus scan (via the Hiren's Boot CD).

I've never seen an XP machine do this so I'm not sure what is going on. I believe he is running SP3 but I'm not certain of this because I can get it fully loaded to check.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would think that your first priority, assuming that your data is safe, is to obtain a means of reinstalling/repairing XP. I mean, that would be my first priority if I intended to run a system with XP on it and I did not believe that the system would run perfectly until I decided to retire/sell/junk it.

So my first suggestion would have been...contact Dell and inquire about recovery/restore CDs for your system.

As for your apparent option of taking it to a shop...that won't resolve the fact that you have no install disks of any type.

I've not ever seen an XP sticker that doesn't indicate which flavor of the O/S is installed.

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. Please help. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. I'm hoping there will be a patch or service pack or some update that will fix this. Any ideas why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

A:Windows 8 Pro, screen goes black and back to lock screen

I had the same problem at first. Then one day the listing of all my apps disappeared. I did a refresh and lost a lot of programs but the files were still there. Then I noticed that the problem with the apps had fixed itself and they worked. My feeling is that the initial install wasn't complete and the refresh completed the install. Recently, after loading my Epson printer's CD, the apps once again disappeared. Had to do a system restore. Now I am having trouble with my screen just being black and not coming on at all...even after a reboot. Win8 has a lot of problems.

I have problem with black screen(lag) between windows starting message and login screen, lag is about 10 seconds and its very annoying, here is the video so you can see the problem:

maybe this is normal? i have this install almost two years, i dont have to much programs, and i disabled almost all useless startup programs. I tried also disabling bootscan in my NOD32 antivirus but nothing changed.

Is there any solution for this? and can i post to you some logs or something?

It is Dell's factory install? Usually it is bloated up with some services and programs those are not needed. So you need to clean them up. Follow this guide:

This is driving me crazy.

Right after I boot my laptop, the screen flashes randomly.

Also something is stealing focus from what I am working on to something else.

Then it likes to suddenly go to a grey screen. I have to manually reboot.

If that is not enough, it like to just reboot.

Scanned with my AVG and Kaspersky, nothing found. Tried TrendMicro House Call, nothing. Dr. Web, nothing.

All drivers are up to date.

I have run it in the safe mode for about an hour with no problems. No new software installed recently. I went to restore and it was only dated from the previous day, so no help there.

I would prefer not to Nuke and pave, but if that what I need to do, I can.

Any thoughts, theories, explosives you can recommend for this?

I await with enlarging piles of hair as I pull it out.
Roger

I think I saw this post aver at Toms but I also think you gave some additional info.
I think what may be going on it during the switch from the windows low res video driver to the driver used in normal mode.

Since you can get into safe mode try to go to device manager.
Start|right click computer|properties|device manager.
Look in the display adapter.
Is there a yellow exclamation mark there?
Or is it showing the video that you know should be there?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. So, these are my problems described in the title. I cannot change desktop from black, only can set a picture as a background.

When I am in pictures folder for example, I see blank or black thumbnails.
When I right click and go to personalize, I can see black themes instead of actual pictures.

I tried almost everything.
- reinstalling video driver
- clearing thumbnail from disk cleanup
- resetting dwm.exe
- going into safemode and then restaring into normal windows
- I tried fixing shell by using "fixshell"
- clearing & repairing registry errors
- ran an error checker
- ran a file checker

I have Microsoft Office 2010 - I heard that it could be the issue, but maybe I am not right, anyway...

I attached a print screen photo.

And, I am hopeless, any help please? Thanks

To be clear, you are claiming the Windows Install on SATA HD #1 is only messing up on System #1, but works fine on System #2, but at the same time System #2's HD works fine with System #1?

That eliminates a lot and points to: RAM likely suspect, get a MEMTEST CD and run it on System #1, you can find that info here in tutorials.

My stats Win XP ECS k S A motherboard AMD ghz Radeon Pro PS w Envision -e quot flat screen I started screen black screen windows after loading getting a black screen after the windows loading screen about months ago So you understand the black screen is AFTER the windows splash screen not before At that time I was running Win ME and had a RAdeon mb DDR I can t say for sure but I black screen after windows loading screen think this started very soon after I got the RAdeon I could temporarily fix it by logging into safe mode then restarting I was having a motherboard problem at the same time where it would reset my bios settings about once a week So after about a month of the black screen issue I returned my motherboard for a new one same model and reformatted upgrading to XP Ok things go well for about a month then start getting the black screen I reformat XP again to fix it and it happens AGAIN So I went out and bought RAdeon Pro thinking the video card was to blame Just to note the HD light is not on when the black black screen after windows loading screen screen comes up also it does not eventually log me on it stays a black screen forcing me to restart manually on front of comp Radeon Pro did not fix it I have reformatted different times now and the black screen seems inevitable I have latest video drivers AGP drivers XP SP DirectX was doing it on dx as well Everyone tells me it s a driver issue but I m thinking it s the motherboard now I have a backup GeForce Mx I pop it in and it works flawless everytime Am I having a motherboard ATI conflict I had found a quick fix where I could just uninstall then reinstall the video drivers and it would boot up again but as of today that stopped working for me Please please please help me Thanks nbsp

A:black screen after windows loading screen

try using a lower resolution and a lower screen refresh rate on the graphics card
It's quite possible your monitor can't handle the higher settings.

This is very likely if everything works ok with a geforce 2mx 200 which has lower top resolution than a radeon 9000

Hi everyone:

This is my first time here so im not 100% sure if this is where I am supposed to post this.

I am running windows XP Pro and the problem is that I have deep freeze installed on my computer, so I un-thawed it and then installed skype and then froze it again.

Once I was done with Skype I un-thawed deep freeze again and uninstalled Skype and then restarted the computer. Thats when the problem started all I get now is the windows XP splash screen and then the screen goes blank. I tried going into safe mode to un-thaw deep freeze again but it doesn't appear in the bottom bar.

Any help is greatly appresheated.

Thanks,
:) Azirus

A:Black Screen after seeing Windows splash screen.

Hello everyone its me again. Just wanted to give an update on the problem.

It appears that it is deep freeze that is causing this problem on the computer, because when I boot into thawed mode or uninstall deep freeze the computer is able to boot normal (I was able to log in by pressing F8 and then selecting Directory Services Restore Mode, incase someone else has this problem) and once I logged in I was able to open deep freeze and uninstall it.

Unfortunately I need deep freeze installed on this computer because its at a public library (Deep freeze pretty much solves all problems of public downloading viruses etc...) I also have deep freeze installed on 6 other computers running windows XP Pro and they arn't having any problems at all.

If anyone else has had this problem or knows what may be wrong please let me know. I have tried uninstalling deep freeze and reinstalling it as well, but the same problem happens.

Thanks,
:) Azirus

hi i built my own pc in the summer a few months ago it was windows xp Black splash screen after screen working fine until this morning when i switched it on i only have one user so it automatically goes onto the user without having to click Black screen after windows xp splash screen the name however today i had to click it because it said i needed to activate xp over the phone or the internet even though it was already activated anyway i have activated it now but when i switch the pc on after the xp splash screen it just shows a blank screen i have gone into safe mode and it give me an option of the Administrator and my user i have tried system restore in both but the same thing happens i have seen on other sites that it may be the video card drivers and i might have to reinstall them however on safe mode i put the cd in but i can't install it does anyone know how i can fix this

A:Black screen after windows xp splash screen

Hi, I have seen this quite a few times, and yes pain in the butt i know :) Alot of software will not install in safe mode, although seeing as you can get into safe mode, will it allow you to uninstall the video driver from there? If you can, then reboot into regular mode, the system should come up (heres hoping).. then reinstall the vid driver. I have found this to work most times. Worst case scenario.. if that dosn't help. . .go back into safe mode again, uninstall all motherboard drivers, reboot back into normal mode, and again, reinstall drivers. The problem you are having is normally a software issue, generally one of the two suggestions here I find to work. If you have activated and the system is asking for reactivation, that could be due to malware or viruses, or significant hardware changes to your system

The only thing I can suggest, is to try another video card. If that works ok, then you know your video card has failed.

A:Black screen after windows loading screen

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would guess it would be a graphic's card driver if safe mode with networking is working.

Remove the graphic's card after uninstalling the driver
Connect using on board graphic's and see what happens.

Either way safe mode with networking uses minimal drivers and installed software
Post a uninstall a program screen shot here.

I would think, at this point, your best bet would be to do a repair install using a Windows XP install disc.

The solutions for malware problems...are seldom generic, since each situation involves a different system, different circumstances, etc.

So...my advice is never to try to use someone else's malware situation...which has been defined and treated by those with expertise...to self-resolve your own situation.

I would suggest that you start in the Am I Infected forum...I'll move this topic there.

Before this happened, I could put my computer on sleep without any problems. Now, when I put it on sleep, I turn it on, the screen freezes. I shut it down, start it again, and then the Loading Windows freezes. Another problem is a small one I felt like adding, is that the Windows 7 screen where it is loading up your computer, doesn't show for me. This is not a problem where other users could not log on. All mine does is have a black screen, then loads to my desktop. So it works fine, just that the screen doesn't show. Please help.

Do you have the win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

Do you have a backup, by chance?

A:Black Screen in login screen Windows 8 Pro 32. GTX 550

The BIOS on your system dates from 2007. I'd have to wonder if this system is compatible with Windows 8

Many of your storage controller drivers date from 2008 and earlier - I'd have to wonder about those that are involved in any crashes, but there are no memory dump files to examine.

Lot's of errors about services not starting and Windows Updates not installing - but I don't speak Spanish so I can't be sure about the details. I must ask if this is a legal copy of Windows - as illegal copies have many of these same symptoms - and fixing them isn't something that we can do here.

Is this a laptop or PC?
Are you running an addon Video card (well this is PC only question)

We need to know more specifications about your computer to help you

At a guess I would suggest to run CheckDisk from your Windows CD on the Recovery Console ie chkdsk c: /f (Try that)

Oh and please put your System Specs information in your Profile

Hey I need immediate help!

It's my sis' previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:

Administrator
Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000
username1
username2

Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help quick, she uses it a lot. Thank anybody so much..

when i turned on my computer just now i noticed that there are weird patches of pastel colors going across the screen, and the image is warped. I've had this problem before on my old computer, but i forget how to fix it.

I've got a AMD 64 3200+ with a gig of ram. my video card is a ATI Radeon 9800 pro. Thanks.

A:weird colors and distortion

This can be caused by the power cable wrapping itself around the video signal cable, especially if the video cable isn't well shielded.

These aren't very important problems, but I'm just curious why this happen after Anniversary Upgrade.
- When I start my PC or when I shutdown/restart, in the log screen there isn't my profile image. Just the generic blank one.
The image is still present when I click on Start button on desktop and in Control Panel. I also tried to set it again.
- I prefer a "blank" lock screen background as I had before, with no panorama pictures or nothing. How can I remove it?

This problem has been going on for about 2-3 months now, I get lines crossing on the screen from the right side. It's very weird and it doesn't happen all the time. It might happen for 15-20 sec then after start again 2-3 min later doing the same thing. Then the screen will be fine for 1-2 days and it starts again.

I don't know what to make of it?? What's causing this?? The computer is about 8months old.

Here's a pic:

Thanks in advance

A:Distortion on Screen??

Well it's going to involve either the Monitor OR the Video Card. To narrow down the suspects, you need to either try the Monitor on another PC for sufficient time to be sure it is OK or not, or try another Monitor on your PC.

If your Video is "onboard" rather than a separate card, you could also try borrowing a plug in card for an experiment.

That pic looks fine to me.

Try a different monitor, just to rule it out as the cause.

A:Black Screen During WIN 7 POST , Black Screen Even In Safe Mode

What other graphics adapter choices are available in BIOS setup? If you choose Switchable is there software on the Lenovo site for your model that's needed? Are you using the Display adapter software from there?

Have you tested your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by a full Disk Check on a single disk partition you create?

Then work through the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums including trying an alternate install method (disk><flash stick) with new media. These steps overcome almost all install failures, so you'll be reasonably sure the problem is hardware or BIOS settings if nothing works. But don't skip any steps.

Try Clean Install Windows 10 Technical Preview to see if there's any difference with a more modern OS install. It's already a very polished OS and worth testing this.

I just recently upgrade my computer with a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. It was previously freezing when trying to reformat it when someone looked at it I was told that the CPU was overheating so I just upgraded. Well, when I started the computer after the upgrade it seemed to work fine. I need to reformat the hard drive so I tried but after the screen that says "press any key to boot off disk" it goes straight to a black screen. Also, it goes to the black screen right after the windows opening screen. Any ideas guys? I would really appreciate it. I have had nothing but problems with this computer ALL summer!

A:Black Screen after Windows welcome screen

You have to set your optical drive as the first boot device in the BIOS and then boot with your Windows CD in the optical drive tray. You can change your BIOS back later.

Is your hard drive IDE or SATA? If it is SATA and you are installing XP, you might need to install SATA/RAID drivers during the OS installation procedure.

Hi guys Hopefully I m posting this in the right place This is my first time to Bleeping Computer but I ll try to be clear and to the point with my issue My OS is Windows XP ProThis is the problem I m having I downloaded and installed a screensaver about weeks ago Everything seemed fine at first but then a few days after that I started getting these distorted bars of color flickering on my screen I removed and deleted the screensaver program but the bars have since remained The severity of the distortion on my screen varies Monitor Screen Distortion from barely noticeable artifacts to the bars like seen above to a thick pixelated haze that distorts the entire screen Sometimes it gets so bad I have to restart the computer because I just can Monitor Screen Distortion t see what I m doing anymore Here s what I ve tried so far to fix the problem Checked the monitor connection to ensure it wasn t loose Checked the pins on end of monitor cable for any damage Replaced monitor with the working monitor of another computer distortion remained even on new monitor Monitor Screen Distortion Plugged in a second monitor into second monitor port distortion then showed on BOTH screens Re-installed display driver Ran a registry repair tool that fixed about things within the registry Changed the Hz for monitor in display settings this at first actually cleared it up but the problem returned later - and now doing it tends to just make it worse None of these things worked unfortunately I honestly don t know what Monitor Screen Distortion the problem is but I m suspecting that screensaver did some damage because it is the only thing I ve really installed recently and the problem started almost immediately after Now the thing is that computer has not had an internet connection for over a year The antivirus and spyware programs are seriously out of date AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy I figured that wouldn t be a problem because normally I just use the machine for working in graphics programs and never install anything quot foreign quot to it But stupid me had to spice things up a bit with a flashy new screensaver and well things got a bit TOO spicy In any case I figured if there was a piece of malware in this screensaver then mr computer s outdated defenses would probably be wide open for infection That s one theory anyway I did run a scan with both AVG and Spybot just for the hell of it and of course neither found anything But I m just shooting in the dark now I really have no idea what s causing the problem I m coming here as a last resort to see if we can t get to the bottom of this I know there s a lot of bright and caring people on these forums and deeply appreciate any help that s given I hope I ve been clear enough about my issue without rambling too much To sum it up I just want to know what s causing the screen distortion i e is it malware or something else and if possible how to fix it If you have any questions for me just ask and again any of your time is greatly appreciated I will patiently stand by for a response All the best

Is it malware? I don't believe so, but as long as you're here let's double-checkThe process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free version and save it to your desktop.NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs---------------------------Be sure to re-enable your AV and malware scan tools if they were disabled=======================Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. Hello So on my computer something strange happens when I uninstall UxStyle It Black Post-Windows Flashing Black Screen Update UxStyle has broken my Windows install once and it has done it again The UxStyle Black Flashing Post-Windows Update Black Screen first time I kept on doing system restores to see what was the problem that made that black screen After trial and error I narrowed it down to UxStyle So I deleted Windows and installed Windows which is what I wanted in the first place Now I decided to triple-boot Windows with Vista and and it has succeeded I reinstalled UxStyle thinking it was just a problem with my old Windows install and then uninstalled it after a few days since I felt like the regular look was better I rebooted Windows and the same effect happened So I would like to know if I can get and replace those three patched DLLs with unpatched DLLs for Windows Could I just change the broken ones to have old next to them and then place the ones I get here there Also would sfc scannow work

A:UxStyle Black Flashing Post-Windows Update Black Screen

Hello lct01a, and welcome to Eight Forums.

A sfc /scannow will attempt to repair any modified or corrupted system files, so that would be a good first step.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

A:Black Screen/Blank screen after screen replacement

Not all laptop screens are the same. It is important to get a "replacement" screen, not a "compatible" one.

On the back of the laptop screen is a product sticker (you can only read this before you install the screen). On that sticker is the manufacturer and model #. You can use that number to find exact replacements.

How did you come to choose the LG screen?

My home built desktop system is having two possibly related problems Sometimes when the system is left on overnight it will lock up and become completely unresponsive This can happen as often as every day to sometimes only once a Locking System Distortion Up/Screen week About a week ago System Locking Up/Screen Distortion while doing some normal computing the screen distorted and became unresponsive I hard rebooted the machine and it worked for about two minutes before the same thing happened Did a hard reboot again and the machine was fine for hours That evening while listening to iTunes browsing the web and moving some photos from one folder to another the screen flickered a couple of times It also looked as though the Windows interface changed back to Basic I opened SpeedFan to take a look at the temperatures and saw that my GPU's temp was quickly rising so I shut the system down for the night Here is what I have tried so far in terms of troubleshooting When these problems started last year I ran FurMark to test the GPU The test didn't even last a minute before the screen distorted and the system locked up The temp got up to around C I ran the FurMark test again today The temp reached C within about - mins I ran the test for about nine minutes total The temp never exceeded C the system never locked up and the screen showed no artifacts I ran Prime for hours and had no errors According to SpeedFan the temp never exceeded C Some cores did hit I also had a co-worker run Prime with my proc in his machine and it did not report any errors either I ran MemTest for nearly six full passes and no errors were reported I also ran the Windows memory testing tool and again no errors I have had both the motherboard and the graphics card RMA'd and the manufactures said in both cases that they were fine I tried installing a different graphics card in my system an NVIDIA GeForce XT but I could never get the card to work During the reboot of the driver installation the system would always lock up at the Windows screen Some additional details According to SpeedFan my GPU normally sits around - C and my CPU sits around C with individual cores sitting around - C This is under normal load The system is not overclocked in any way All drivers and software are fully up-to-date I am running Zone Alarm as my security solution There are no infections on the system Everything is seated properly The case is spacious and I don't think cooling inside the case is an issue as I have two friends with identical cases and far more hardware and they have no problems The case fans vents etc are all clean and free of dust My system specs are in my profile The only thing I can think of at this point is that a cable near the GPU fan sometimes gets in the way But if that was the case wouldn't I probably hear a noise or something if the GPU fan got jammed Sorry for the long post but I'm at a loss here

A:System Locking Up/Screen Distortion

You say your CPU gets up to 80 degrees and some cores hit 92 on Prime95. According to the Intel site, the max temp for your CPU is 67.9?C. I would get that problem taken care of first as it could be the source of your problems. If you keep overheating your CPU it will eventually fail.

Try running with the case open and a small fan blowing into the case and see if the problems continue

After installing a new "True Flat Screen", CRT Monitor. I cannot adjust to get straight horizontal lines. The best I can get is a horizontal "Hour Glass", screen. The monitor has been checked by the manufactuer and is working properly. Could ther be a confiquration or conflict with the video card.
I have removed all speakers and adjusted monitor geometry buttons. Anyone experienced this problem.
