I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
My opinion ...
Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.
The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?
The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.
You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.
Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?
I have an AGP 2x slot. Can i put an AGP 8x video card into that slot. If so, will i see any performance gain. Or are there video cards that are compatible with all types, like 2x 4x and 8x.
Hello and welcome to Techspot.
Agp1x/2x are 3.3 volts, whereas Agp4x/8x are 1.5 volts.
You should check carefully that whatever card you get is compatible with you 2x Agp slot.

Hey I've finally decided to buy a new graphics card It wouldn't fit in my current PC case nor would my current PSU Therefore I have to buy a new PSU and a new PC case too I will move pretty much everything except the old PSU and graphics card GT to the new case The card I intend to buy dual slot a fit? Will card is GeForce GTX GeForce GTX - Specifications - GeForce The Will a dual slot card fit? specs say it is dual slot but I'm not sure if it fits in my motherboard which is nForce a MCP NVIDIA nForce a MCP The case I intend to buy is Xigmatek Midgard Will a dual slot card fit? Xigmatek Midgard Review - Page techPowerUp The PSU I intend to buy is Antec High Current Gamer W Antec High Current Gamer HCG- W Review - Page techPowerUp Check my profile specs if you need more information The question is Will the dual-slot card fit in my case with the other components I don't know much about these things thanks in advance
The case looks ok, the psu is enough though some would say to go with a much stonger one.
Dual slot card means, that you can't use the slot below the 16x slot that you put the card in. I would say yes it fits, though you must do some calculations about the case to make sure that you have enough space.
I just purchased this pre-built machine:
Acer Aspire AM3970-UR14P DT.SJYAA.003 Desktop PC
I'm attempting to order a graphics card upgrade ( probably an affordable Nvida GT 650 ti . Obviously the card will consume some space due to the fan. I'm trying to figure out if the card ( or a similar dual slot PCIx card) will fit onto the motherboard. I know from past experience that a lot of non-custom built PCs have little to no room for expansion.
I've searched all over the net about this particular model number of Acer Aspire and can come up with no information about the motherboard to check for myself.
Would anyone happen to know where i can find info about the motherboard for this particular model of Acer Aspire desktop?
** Also, i do intend on removing the included radeon card.
It is hard to tell if it would fit the case, but the specs state that your computer only has a 300W Power Supply and that definitely will not work with the card you list.
want to buy a new video card but not sure what type of slot my pc has. Have a DELL PIV 3.0 ghz with a green video card slot (other slots are white)
Can someone help me out?
I am going to buy a vpu and pci is all I can do, can anyone give any input on these?Apollo Nvidia FX 5700le,Geforce fx 5600 pci 256mb, Mad Dog Dominator fx5500,Pny fx5500oc 128mb,BFG Tecnologies Fx5200 256mb,280 htz.which one of these would be the best one,I cannot find any reviews comparing these. thanks webbfeet
i think that the higher the #, the better the card. try comparing the prices of them. the most expensive should be thebest. from my experience, the 5700 le should be the best of those. im thinking of getting one myself on EBAY. :stickout:
I am running an old dell optiplex gx110 it has the intel i810e video.I am wondering what video slots I have so I can buy me a little better video card,Theres a website I wondering run but wont run on this machine with this graphics card?

any suggestions on a good video card for a standard PCI slot, i currently have a VisionTek Radeon X1550 256MB. im looking to beat that, if possible, as PCI is pretty much extinct now, exept on Ebay
Ok heres the deal. I'm wanting to play call of duty on my pc and my current agp vanta lt video card dosn't support that game. Anyways, I got a geforce4 mx 40 pci slot card from my brother which we know it works. But when I disable the vanta lt card in device manager and shut down the computer, install the new card in the pci slot, turn the pc back on the monitor dosn't come on. I also tried uninstalling the old card aswell but keeping getting the same thing monitor not turning on. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
i have an ati radeon 9800 pro chipset and my video card has recently taken a crap on me.
i need to figure out if i have an agp, pci, or pci-e slot.... can anyone tell me how to figure it out?
dell dimension 8300 series. pent 4 if that makes any difference
Up until about a week ago i was running 1 8800 GTS, i recently aquired a gtx 260, so i figured i'd have the gtx 260 as my main card and i'd use the 8800 GTS in the second PCI-e slot to be used a phsx card. The problem is when the gtx 260 is in the first pci-express slot (top slot) and the 8800 GTS is in the second (bottom slot) the 8800 is not detected. However if the positions are reversed both cards are detected. Anyone have any solutions as to why this is happening?
PS mobo is a evga 680i
I figured it out, false alarm, what i did was reinstall the drivers with the new pci-e positions and the 8800 gts got detected.
So, I've been trying to play a game (Shatter) that requires a video card with higher standards then the one built into my Inspiron 530 (G33/G31 Chipset Family). I decided to buy a new Nvidia video card (Nvidia GeForce 5600 AGP 256MB). I got it into the PCI slot (it did seem hard to get in) and now the device manager will not show the card. Any suggestions? I'd greatly appreciate it.
Did you install the correct and most up to date driver?
I recently received a ATI All In Wonder 128 Pro that is AGP 4x2x. I would like to know if it will run on my Asus P2B motherboard.I think the P2B is AGP 1x. Can a video card that is 4x2x run on a mobo that has a 1x AGP slot?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It will work fine.. Just be sure you change your driver set back to standard VGA first
I have an ati radeon x700 pro and was trying to figure out what slot it was. the problem is this:
on the card it claims to be agp, device manager says its on pci bus 2, the ati site says the x700 is PCI-E, dxdiag says agp
Would like some clarification, this is probably just a case of me not being knowledgeable about hardware :|
Simple, open the case and if the slot the video card is pluged into is Brown its a AGP
Appreciate some assistance.
Some pc builders recommend the video card(not AGP) be placed on the PCI slot nearest to the power supply. Anyone know the rationale for this?
That seems to be the most popular slot for the highest priority devices during "bus arbitration". Since video or graphics require the most from system resources it's best to give them the highest priority when they are negotiating for control of the PCI bus. But, the specification doesn't require that, so a designer could assign any PCI slot to have the highest priority if he/she wanted to.
I am playing with the idea of getting a new Video Card just because the one I have is old. I was looking at my MB. I have two PCIE 16X slots. One of them is black and one is blue. My current card is in a blue one. 90% of the slots are blue so the black one leads me to believe it would be faster. There is nothing in my manual to give me any info and I saw nothing on the MB to indicate anything. Anyone have any idea why one is black and one is blue? Thanks
Use the top slot closest to the cpu
Post a link to your board.
Hi! I just bought an nvidia geforce mx400 video card off of ebay for an old computer. It is a universal pci card and the computer has a 5v pci slot. When i tried to put the card into the slot it did not fit because the connector on the card is about 1mm too far off to the back of the card. I compared it with another pci card and it actually was a bit off. Does anybody know if that's a defect in the card or is there something I don't know. Thank you!
Can i install a AGP 2x Video Card Into a Agp 1x slot ??
They're supposed to be backwards compatible, so the answer should be yes. I have seen some newer motherboards that only accept the 1.5v AGP cards, so they wouldn't function with older AGP cards, but that's not your situation.
Recently my computer monitor quit displaying my video feed. I first figured the card may have come loose as I never actually screwed it down. So I checked connections but the card fit and didn't seem to be obstructed. Next I checked the card in another computer, it worked. Then I checked the monitor on another computer, it worked. I checked the ram, seemed just fine. There are no beeps and everything seems to turn on without fail on start-up. I get absolutely no signal from the monitor though which leads me to believe that there may be no connection between the video card and motherboard. All help is appreciated, thanks.
Also, video card is AGP if that helps. Its old stuff I know. haha
I have an old Pentium II with a Soyo motherboard and 3,3V AGP slot like
I want to buy a Geforce 2 MX400 video card and found several brands (Inno, XFX, PixelView, etc.) but I found no information about the voltages these cards work.
I'm afraid of buying a card and it doesn't work with 3,3V (despite the universal connector) and then burn my machine.
How can I identify if the card works in 3,3V? Is there any information printed on the card or in some chip?
(I looked for in many sites but there is no information about voltages)
I say get a new computer . . .
I dont even think there is a GPU that can run with a PII
Hey guys I ve asked this question about months ago but the topic was closed so I hope it s alright to start a new one Anyway I have a XFX GT which I ordered online last video slot? to PCI-E card remove from How March The issue I m having is that I don t know and couldn t take that card out My CPU is this http letmeupgradeya com acer AM -E A htm Since I brought my PC to future shop for them to install the video card for me I still don t know how to do it myself I watched a few tutorials but all of them seems to have a screw facing towards the slide of the CPU while mine don t In other words when I slide open the side of my CPU I don t see a screw I tried tugging the video card a bit but it won t How to remove video card from PCI-E slot? budge and I really couldn t think of how the video card could be intact when I can t see anything that s holding it that tightly on Also the PCi-E PCI slots at the back gave me a lot of trouble as it was hard to take it off I m really new with these stuff so I would appreciate if someone who has experience to teach me how to remove it safely without damaging it Also any suggestions regarding why a video card will display those green purple lines will be greatly appreciated nbsp
Can I Put An 8x AGP Card In My 4x AGP Slot? I Think The Power Voltage Is The Same.
I just upgraded the video card in another computer with a new 8x 256 MB, the one I took out is an ATI Radeon 9800 pro 8x, Can I put this into my Dell Dimension that currently has a 64MB 4x i it right now. On the dell I am running one AGP 4x 64MB and one pci card 64MB. Will I see an improvement if the new card is compatible with my dual setup?
hello i have a geforce gts 250 and i am in need of a new slot bracket for it either the high profile or low profile and i cant seem to find just the brackets any place online. thought i would check here and maybe someone has a good site to get parts like this..
I do believe those are specific to that make and model card and not generic or interchangeable. At best all you will find on line are blanks to fill empty slots. If you are handy with a drill and a file you could make one from a blank. You might be able to get one from the original manufacturer, but the cost may not be worth it, even if you can get it.http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/238007-needs-new-slot-bracket-my-video-card.html
I just recently bought a new Nvidia GT card w vid ram for my desktop PC I purchased it to replace an older Nvidia GS card that I thought had burned out after a little over a year of use because one day the monitor just went black and I had to connect to the onboard GPU to see anything When I went to install the new card I followed the manufacturers installation PCI problems. slot help! card/ Please Video instructions exactly I uninstalled the old video drivers removed the old card from the PCI express slot Video card/ PCI slot problems. Please help! and installed the new one in it s place When I turned the PC back on everything looked good The new card had power to it because its cooling fan was running I then installed the new video drivers and rebooted again But when I connected the monitor to the card the monitor went black I checked the display adapter settings under device manager but the new card wasn t listed All it showed was the onboard Nvidia card I disabled the onboard card to see if it would then default to the but that didn t work When I called the card s tech support all they said is that either the card was bad or the PCI slot was bad and basically he couldn t help me with that He also said to make sure my power supply was providing enough power to the card My suspicion is that the PCI-e slot might be bad because the PC isn t seeing either card when they are plugged in and yet the cooling fan on each card is working Any suggestions or insight into this would be greatly appreciated Thank you in advance My PC is an eMachines T Here are the specs AMD Athlon processor with AMD Technology GHz MHz system bus KB L cache Operating System Genuine Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Chipset NVIDIA GeForce Memory MB DDR MB MHz PC dual-channel Expandable to GB Hard Drive GB rpm MB cache Onboard Video NVIDIA GeForce GPU Up to MB of shared video memory PCI Express PCIe x slot available Power supply w max output nbsp

Provided that slot you have is agp x8 and not a slower slot then it should work fine.
Only thing, there was no mention of minimum psu spec in your link. You need to have a look at the label on the side of your psu for its wattage and its amperage on the 12volt rail.
You might want to blank out your windows serial so than no-one else can use it.

I am upgrading an older Hp m8000. Already put a brand new Corsair 750 watt PSU in it and it still wont recognise any of the 3 pci-e video cards I have tried. I have already went into the bios and changed the videos settings to pci-e and still nothing. Is there only certain video cards that are compatible with this thing or what. can anyone help me??plz???is it possible to boost a 64mb agp slot video card w/o buying a spare??
thnk you for advance!
What do you mean by "boost"?http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/is-it-possible-to-boost-a-64mb-agp-slot-video-card-510863.html
I just noticed that setting in my BIOS.
I've seen it but always figured that it wouldn't do much but possibly cause instability, since I think the pci-e x16 slot already has more than enough bandwidth. Not sure though.
I have an asus p8z77-V motherboard and the first (blue) pcislot died. I tried moving my video card to the secomd slot but computer rarely boots successfully. The user manual says the board van not run a single card in the second slot, however I have booted my pc and ran it with no problems for a few days but it takes a few tries resetting it before it will boot. It gets stuck looking at the first slot most of the time. Since I have seen it is capable of running with the card in this slot I am wondering if there is a way to trick the board or a setting in the bios to make the board check the second slot first so it will boot everytime.
thankyou for your help
There may be an option in BIOS to set the preferred port for gpu. Try to find it.http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/371156-motherboard-won-t-read-video-card-second-pci-slot.html
ok heres the deal, i got a cheap-o pci-e card to put in my box so i can run it into my tv. the problem is that i need to use my on board video as well for my monitor is there settings or something out there i can change to make this work, because when i just hook them up i get no video on ither monitor or tv.
It can only be one of the two enabled at a time. For most systems, as soon as you put the pci-card in the slot, it disables the on board video.
is there any else i can do before buying a new video card?
my systemm amd 64 3800 process. 1 gig or ram. 225 gig hard drive. and my crappy old video card which i bought not knowing only what the case said and then i didnt know what a thing or memory for video cards. but now i know ALOT more..but its 2 late. =( so is there anything else i can do without speding another video card?
I need an DIRECT ANSWER .. TY!!!
YES! The AGP8X card is backwards compatible, but it will only run in 4X
I disable PCI Express slot in Computer Setup -- Security -- Slot Security on BIOS. I doesn't know that my onboard card wasn't working, and now, machine doesn't start, machine beeps 6 times (video card error). I can't access the bios. I try reset CMOS, removing the Green Jumper, removing the battery, press CMOS button for 10 seconds, press power button (to remove remain energy. But nothing this works. Someone can help me? How i can reactivate PCI Express x16 ?
Hi: If your onboard video adapter doesn't work, and resetting the CMOS doesn't work, you can try putting the PCI express x16 video card you have now into the white PCIe x4 slot (the white video card slot next to the black PCIe x16 slot), and see if you can get into the BIOS to change the PCI x 16 setting. It might work in the x4 slot. If that doesn't work either, then you will have to install a PCI video card (one that goes into one of the white PCI slots) and use that to get into the BIOS so you can change the settings to enable the PCIe x16 slot. So, see if you can find a cheap, used, PCI video card on eBay, and that should allow you to have video again. You also need to make sure you have removed all connections from the PC when you reset the CMOS (all cables, power cord, mouse, monitor, etc).http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Video-Card-not-recognized-in-PCI-Express-x16-Slot-Security/td-p/5625776
I would like to move my sound card above the GPU. Right now it's under it, because I thought it wouldn't fit up there with my new water cooler. But there seems to be more than enough room. So my question is, once I move the sound card from one slot to another, do I have to reinstall the drivers or change any of the settings? Thanks in advance
You do not need to change settings or re-install anything if you move the card.http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/281984-question-regarding-moving-sound-card-1-pcie-slot-another.html
I just got a Asus A8N-SLI mother board and a pny 7800gt video card. The card only works in the bottom pci express slot though, when i try to plug into the top the monitor light keeps blinking like nothings going through. Everything seems to work fine when in the bottom slot but i am worried about the heat. I have my sound card close to that so theres not much flow between like their would be in the top slot. (also the top slot is blue, bottom is black, if that makes a difference) I left the default set at single card mode on the motherboard. Also being in that slot is the card running at full capacity? 16x?
My other specs are:
1gb Corsair value select ram
Antec 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 PSU
AMD 64 3700
mmm... Check out the BIOS option for the SLI cause it could be that just one slot is enabled (the bottom on)...
about the heat issue... can you move the sound card to another slot?...
PCI slot on my case too tall for my video card to screw into bracket. How can I fix this? Is the problem my case or my video card? I also want to know if it is the cases problem. If so, which kind of case would you recommend for this mb? Preferably cheap. Thanks

This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past years of using computers I have an Acer Aspire - laptop that came with windows but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and won't mouse USB slot USB first other in works any slot, in only work but USB downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot it will refuse to work in the other USB slots I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer USB which is my favorite mouse and I USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot have of them at home When I was formatting the laptop USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot I had the mouse plugged into the first USB slot and now that is the ONLY slot it will work in If I plug it into the other usb slots the red laser will come on which means it's getting power but it will not move the cursor and clicking either of the mouse buttons won't do anything When I have the Device Manager open and I plug the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer mouse into the first USB slot the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will appear in BOTH the 'Human Interface Devices' tab and also the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab However when plugging the mouse into the other usb slots the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will only appear in the 'Human Interface Devices' but NOT the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab I could just go about my business using the first usb slot for the mouse but this little strange problem is pissing me off hugely as I might want to switch the mouse to another USB slot based on how I have the laptop positioned on a desk or other surface I should also note that the 'Human Interface Devices' tab has a 'HID compliant device' entry in it that isn't present on my desktop computer and my mouse works on any of the usb slots on my desktop computer I wonder if this is the problem I tried disabling this entry but it doesn't help any A final point to note is that I have many other usb devices such as flash memory sticks camera card readers external harddrives gps devices and they all work perfectly fine no matter which usb slot they are plugged into Very strange indeed Is there anyway to make my mouse work in any of the other USB slots
I have seen a similar problem, but it was all USB ports that weren't working.
First, check the BIOS to make sure all USB ports are enabled, which they probably are.
Are all drivers installed and up to date? Do any yellow question marks or exclamation points show up in Device Manager?
i have had trouble with my computer after cleaning it (can of compressed air) it would boot to log in screen then go black on the monitor or it would blue screen and restart.
after figuring out it was a RAM problem i tried another stick of RAM but same problem so i guess its the actual slot it goes into, i only have 2 on my motherboard lucky one of them is working still.
has anyone had this problem or know of a way to fix it, i am wondering if some of the canned air/gas became a liquid from spraying to close and got in it.
any help would be appreciated thanks.
ok so i have been looking into my problem more, when booting i press tab to show the POST?? or somthing and it says that 1 of the RAMs wouldnt/couldnt R/W (read write?? i dont know)
then i get the screen saying that windows has had hardware changes and asking to how i want to start windows (normal, safe mode, etc) i have tried all but it just restarts.
now its only with 1 of the 2 dimm slots this happens and i have tried differend RAM in there but only the 1 slot works
any help would be appreciated
ok the lady I got this comp from says the comp the video card its reading now is not as good as the one in the PCI slot so Im wondering how do I make it so it reads the PCI slot
The AGP vid card though comes out with a Adaptor to make it so you can plug in moniters
Anyway Should I leave my moniter plug in the AGP slot video card or put it where no video card is but goes right into the computer
and no there is no plug that goes into the PCI slot
I hope this is understanable

That's known as integrated graphics, now do you have a PCI video card and an APG video card or an Integrated video card and an AGP card?
Also what are they Radeon xxxx? or Nvidia xxxx? we need to know the model numbers to tell you which is the better on to use.
yah just a question, and if so give me a price range please for a pci
You can't add a slot to a motherboard.
How old is this computer that it doesn't have a PCI slot? Those have been around for quite a while. Are you sure it doesn't have one? Even AGP is not new technology.
EDIT: After seeing your other thread, are you asking if you can purchase an AGP or PCI video card? That's a totally different question, and the answer would be yes depending on which slot your motherboard has. How much it costs depends on what you plan to use the computer for. A simple one is cheap, and high-end gaming cards can get expensive.
I just ordered a graphic card (8800 GTS 320mb) and I figured out it is dual-slot. Deos this mean it takes up two PCI-E slots? I only have one 16x one. Thanks in advance.
No. it takes up the room of two slots. (I hope) The fan and cooler cover what would be a usable socket, but the card only requires one PCI-E socket
I bought a EVGA 950 GTX video card (dual slot) to play 4k video as an upgrade to a GT 720 (single slot). I was surprised to find that I can't fit the new card won't fit, i.e. the PCIe expansion slot lines up with the top opening on the case, but the GPU connection is on the lower slot, so it lines up with the lower opening. Is that correct? Is there no way to install a dual slot GPU in the DC5750?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Dual-Slot-in-DC5750/td-p/5638116
I am Using Dell Inspiron N5010. Can I Use Only Single Module 8GB RAM in Single Slot (With One Empty Slot)http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19983715
I am thinking of buying a dual slot 1 motherboard such as this from ebay, to make use of the slot 1 p3s and Sdram i've got lying around. What I don't know, however is whether the two processors have to be the same; e.g. Can I use a 700mhz and a 550mhz processor together (I know the fsbs have to be the same)?
Thanks in advance
wanted to check and make sure that a pci express 2.1 x16 video card would run in a motherboard that only has pci express 2.0 x16 slots
Yes,it will run at full bandwidth/speed.
Make sure you have a power supply that can handle it.
I am planning to upgrade my video card. I saw this one from Nvidia. Geforce GTS 450. I checked the specs and i saw the "bus" and it says PCI-E 2.0 x 16. My motherboard(Asus P5G41T-MLX3) has PCIe x16. I also have researched that the PCIE is backward compatible meaning the GTS 450 is compatible with my mobo. Now, my question is, will my mobo which has pcie 1.1 only be a bottleneck for GTS 450? if so, what video will you recommend so i can play new games like need for speed shift 2 unleashed?
I don't think different versions would bottleneck that much that you could notice.. What are your system specs and what resolution are you willing to play it?http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/194921-pcie-2-0-video-card-pcie-1-1-slot.html
I am trying to for video PCI-E slot upgrade and or replace my son s computer so he can use one of the better video cards These are the cards recommended for the game he just got that he can t play ATI X series ATI X series ATI X series ATI X series ATI X series ATI x series ATI x series ATI x series ATI Radeon PCI-E slot for video series ATI Radeon series ATI Radeon series ATI Radeon series NVIDIA GeForce series NVIDIA GeForce series NVIDIA GeForce series NVIDIA GeForce series NVIDIA GeForce FX series or above I am not sure where to go his motherboard doesn t allow for a PCI-E video card and I think all of these require it We have an ATI Radeon Stealth in the machine now Is is possible to replace the motherboard or would that be hard to do I am not thrilled at buying a new computer but I think we are going to need it so he can play the newer games Any help would be appreciate Nancy nbsp
Good day all! I have a Dell 8250, P4, 2.6ghz, 768mb RDRAM and 64mb PCI video. Purchased in 2003. I would like to upgrade my video card to an ATI Radeon 9800 256mb so that my son can play COD2 and BF2. Before I take the plunge, I have a few quick questions.
1. There is a slot slightly offset from the modem and video card slots. It appears to be an AGP slot but is green. A couple of friends have brown AGP slots on their motherboards. Do I have AGP?
2. How do I tell what kind of AGP slot I have (2x/4x/8x).
3. If I purchase an 8x, like the Radeon, will it work okay in the 2x/4x AGP slot?
Thanks for the help.
My friend the AGP slot Question about has the intel i -ITE and that motherboard has PCI and one AGP x slot Currently he has the geforce mx mb second gen T amp L no pixel shader support and wants to know because he hasn t got an internet connection at home he asked me to do him a favor To ask you if he can put the GeForce fx From PALiT on his AGP x I think that he can put it because on many reviews i have seen the AGP x x support for the specs of the card His agp is because you know-agp x is agp Now i have seen that the card supports agp and Does this mean he can put it Or if you can recommend a card Question about the AGP slot that can be put on the agp x but with the Watt PSU some better than the gf FX just for playin farcry on med-high nfs most wanted and carbon GTA san Andreas AGAIN I AM DOING THIS FOR MY FRIEND THIS ISN T MY PC nbsp
The problem is you have two standards. One for the power supply, which limits what can be used. And another for the AGP slot
He will have problems with the 8X in some 4X slots, but I do not know that board.
Most of the better online sites will tell you what the AGP cards they sell will require... as will the AGP manufacturers if you dig deeply enough.
Quick question, can a single PCI slot fail and the rest work? I have a modem that started acting up and I pulled it out and put it back in and reinstalled it and it worked for two seconds and quit working. I then put a different modem in and it worked sometimes while sometimes it didn't. I am using a USB external modem and as you can see, I am connected. Is it a coincidence that I had two bad modems back to back or is the PCI slot bad? I haven't tried using a differnet slot yet because I wanted to see if one PCI slot can fail and the others work.
Yes it certainly can. You could have a electrical issue with the slot, it could also be dust build upl. You may also want to check the modems in a differnt PC as well in the rare cause you had two bad ones.
I have a compaq p4 1519 And was wondering if I am able to get ATI radeon video card into my comuter and be able to work before I buy it so if you can please tell me if this is at all possible or if i need to buy something else to put in my computer before the video card to be able to work.
Compaq Presario SR1519ES, SR1519IT, SR1519UK or SR1519X?
I know this maybe a stupid question, but there might be a way that someone might just be able to help me, I hope :/
Anyways, I jsut recently bought a scsi cd burner with cable and scsi from a friend and went to install the card on my new computer only to realise that my motherboard does not have an ISA slot, which is what the scsi card requires
My motherboard is an Asus Socket A A7V-E board with 3 PCI slots free. Im just wondering if there is some way around this problem other than buying a pci card.
Maybe is there a ISA to PCI slot convertor or something out there?
Any help is greatly Aprreciated!
Thanks in advance, Lee.
Nope!....ISA is ISA and PCI is PCI.....there is no converter for these cards. Where did you ever find an ISA SCSI card....must be an antique.
Hello I have read several posts about this so I will explain my problem in detail I put the correct SD Card in the slot of my new Toshiba Satellite Lap Top I have used it several times before without incident I know the card works it is the right size and out get slot Card SD Cannot of I have removed it before without incident So I Cannot get SD Card out of slot clicked safely remove hardware It said the device can now be removed But when I try pressing it in it doesn t release There is no release button or little hole like on DVD drives etc I beleive the Windows operating system may have some way to keep this from releasing while it is Cannot get SD Card out of slot in use I can not access the drive right now as Windows Explorer does not show it as being there This is most likely because I requested to safely romove it Any ideas I don t feel like going to Best Buy and waiting on line for Geek Squad Thank You nbsp Cannot get SD Card out of slot
There are no ways to lock a card in the slot by the operating system, it's just stuck. Have you tried using something like tweezers to pull it out?
I have an EMachine mn 2824 with a SD card slot on the front of the case. Today I bought a Canon PowerShot A400 camera. When I plug the card into the slot nothing happens. It works fine through the camera with a USB connection. What am I overlooking?
Is a light coming on when you put the card in? If not, the reader may not be connected, or it may have failed. Make sure you are inserting the card into the correct slot and make sure it is facing the correct direction. Usually the label is up. If the light does not come on you may open the case and see if the reader is connected to the motherboard.
Nothing is neccessarily going to happen when you insert the card - you have to go to My Computer, then find the SD drive (it's going to be E:\ or F:\ or something similar) and view its contents.
I need a new graphics card.My Mobo is an Asus P4S8x.While browsing through my BIOS settings(with a deep look of Puzzlement)I noticed I can set my Primary VGA BIOS to AGP or PCI.
Does that mean I could use a PCI-Express card? And if so would there be any advantage over using the AGPslot which is8X??
No. You can use AGP or PCI (not PCI express).
My sd card slot has worked fine on my 4 different sd cards since 8 came out, but suddenly all cards are read only (and work fine on other computer). So I believe it is a card reader hard/soft problem.... Any thoughts? Thanks

I seem to be a bit confused on something. Will a 4x AGP Ti4600 work in an 8x slot on a new mobo I'm considering? I'm just wondering cause I thought the voltage was different...The mobo I'm looking at is cheap, but I have to go cheap... http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848aluv21.asp
the 8X AGP slots are backward comapitable with 4X. but I would think twice before buying anything from PC chips.
have an old xp2000,512 pc 2100, epox ep8kha board, pny ti4200 vid. my daughter uses it for online games. runs fine 99% of the time. randomly screen goes black. monitor light goes yellow computer doesn't shut down. reboot and will run for a while and do it again. tried an old agp ati 7000 card ran a couple of days then did it again. pretty much convinced it's the agp slot. is there any way to make it live again?
Check the capacitors on the motherboard. Around that era of ePox motherboards, there was a big capacitor scandal overseas, and many motherboard manufacturers mistakenly used inferior capacitors, which were prone to failure. I had to replace the caps on my 8rda+ and a few others as well. They're the little 'towers' on the motherboard, and if the tops of them are bulging, then they're no good. Here's a good picture to show the difference. Check all the capacitors on the board, they're probably scattered about in different places.
Other than that, if you really think it's the slot, then there's no real way to fix it, unless you can see a faulty connection somewhere. Socket A motherboards should be pretty cheap by now, or you might want to consider upgrading the whole thing.
The PCI slot on the prodesk HP pc are not suitable for the lan card that I havehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/PCI-Slot-for-LAN-card/td-p/5686298
I have Vista Ultimate x installed on an SD Card Slot Acer Aspire laptop and it has a -in- card reader When I installed Vista I did a clean install and before doing so I wrote a list of the drivers I might need to get later like my graphics card wireless network card etc I failed to write down the -in- card reader so I don't know what model or anything it is but it doesn't work On my SD Card Slot device manager I have a section called quot SD Host Adapters quot with quot SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller quot underneath it I use an SD card so I would assume this is related However under quot Other Devices quot SD Card Slot I have three devices called quot PCI FLASH Memory quot and they all have a problem I would assume this is the card slot Any ideas what I could do Also does anyone know where I can get x drivers for a Synaptics PS Touchpad It works but the scrolling features don't work
I found the card was an ENE Technologies 5-in-1 card reader, and found a set of 9x, NT, 2000, XP and Vista drivers, and they work perfectly fine.
My only other problem now is the Vista x64 Synaptics touchpad drivers..
i am looking at this sound card for my laptop
it syas that it is a PCMCIA Sound Card
Interface 32-bit CardBus Type II
is a dell e1505 able to support this card. i think the dell e1505 has an express card slot.
would the sound card be compatible with the dell e1505?
ordered a new GB PQI SD Card last week and got it today I put it in my laptop drive and booted up my computer I Slot! Sd Card clicked My Computer and saw it labeled as E Drive I clicked it and it wanted me to Format the card I formatted it as FAT because it kept failing when writing to Fat which I later discovered the card cant handle Fat So Afterwards I rebooted then reclicked My Computer and reclicked drive E When I did so Sd Card Slot! my computer instantly froze I could only move the mouse and minimize and close that screen THats I CTRL Alt Del and closed My Computer and My documents mysteriously opened without me knowing So I continued this same process times and if I let it keep going without control alt deleting then it says quot The file is corrupt or Unreadable Now I am guessing that my generic SD drive needs updates But am afraid of screwing something up so I wont try I figured that the card was locked or something but I tried it in different positions and the same result I actually dont own a digital Camera yes I know quot Im in the Dark ages quot but the card doesnt have a thing on it It is totally new and bare Is there a computer utility that I can use to reformat the card or somethinghttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/64058/sd-card-slot/

See if this helps you, copied from the motherborad specs;
1 x PCI Express Graphics slot (@ x4 mode)
1 x AGP 8X slot
(Motherboard image and specs)
(the image below shows 2 different types of video cards)
I know that different types of ram (DDR1, DDR2,... etc) Have different color slots to tell the difference between them, my question is what color corresponds to which..? such as (from what i think I know )
Baige or Black = DDR1?
Black = DDR2?
Blue = DDR3?? I would like to know what blue is speciffically becuase that what my MB uses.
( ) = DDR4?
( ) = DDR5?
I would like to know for future MB upgrades
oh ok i looked a little and found out the multiple colors on my mb are for dual channel support, my question is then changed to "how can you tell what type of ram your mb uses"? I would do the obvious and look inside the comp but there unlabeled
I currently am running a Asus EN8800GT and have been for some time. However the PCIe X16 slot on my Foxconn motherboard says in the manual that is is a PCIe X16 (signal x1)...this concerns me.
Am I getting the full potential out of my vid card? Or is my PCIe slot restricting some of it's potential due to the signal x1 thing as I'm not sure what that means.
Would it be worth it to upgrade my mother board? I am also running 3gb ddr2 667 if it makes a difference.
Click on the pic for more info
If you have for example a 128 ram and a 64 ram chip which one goes in DIM1 or DIM 2 slot? does it mater or make a difference?
most newer motherboards will allow you to install them in any slot. Some older motherboards wanted them installed in certain configurations. Check the motherboard manual and see if it lists configuration options for memory
Generally I try to put the biggest chip in the first dimm slot
Hi, when i uprgrade the ram, i see on MB a expsansion slot, is a msata o a mini pcie? i want to put a ssd here if is possible. thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/question-on-expansion-slot-on-Mb/td-p/5835240
So I damaged 2 of the 3 USB 2.0 ports on my laptop (very stupid i know )
My laptop supports ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54, so I plan to buy one with extra uSB 2.0 ports.
However, before I get my expectations up, I wanted to ask two questions (which may end up being one)
Will the card be able to charge an iPod when plugged in? From what I've been told its no, but if thats the case, it will still do a sync, correct?
The other question is: If I have an external hard drive that runs off of an AC adapter, will it work in the card slot as well?
BONUS QUESTION: Will I run into any of these problems if I buy a USB Hub?
Regarding your ipod, it will charge normally, and thus sync normally. But, regarding your external hard drive, normally, it won't work without the AC Adapter, you should have mentioned what kind of external hdd ( 2.5' or 3.5" ). However, concerning the hub, you should make sure that the usb hub should be a powered hub in order to make the ipod (for example) charge while connected.
Lately, My laptop is very slow in recognizing my usb stick, or my Hard drive (usb 3.0) or my sxs cards through my express card slot. It 's also slow in recognizing my sd-cards through my card reader. I have a very fast laptop. A lenovo W530.
I just started a while ago, and I can't get it to recognize faster . Everything else works just fine and fast.... but it takes up to 4 minutes to recognize these things.
Can somebody help?
Hey tidri. 2 things come to mind if it previously worked. One is a reinstall of all the drivers for the mobo, and the other is a full AV/Malware/Rootkit scan. If everything checks out, a full format and an OS reinstall would be my third move.
Hello,My only question here is, what's the SIM card slot in my laptop for? My laptop is an HP Elitebook 6930p and it has Windows 7 32-bit. I used the SIM card that's in my phone, but that didn't do anything. Do I need any new drivers? Or do I need to purchase something in order for my SIM card to work? Thanks in advance for any answers.
The SIM card from a phone probably wouldn't work in the SIM slot. The SIM slot is for WWAN (mobile broadband) such as you used to see for USB 3G modems. Phones are typically provisioned differently with different options on the provider side which could prevent a phone SIM card from working properly in the SIM slot. The following document discussing the WWAN function of the notebook. You will need to contact a provider and activate the service to get a SIM card for it. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?prodSeriesId=3688868&objectID=c0108652...http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/SIM-Card-slot-in-my-laptop-what-s-it-for/td-p/2693725
I have a pci 4ch dvr card that apparently needs to be in slot 3 for the software to work..problem is the replacement pc has only 2 slots....is it at all possible to change the slot id's to make it look like its in slot 3
Not a compatibility question, I'm fairly certain that wouldn't be an issue. The question is about overall performance gain. Looking at a Radeon R9 270, currently have a 5670. Here's a benchmark comparison from hwcompare.com - now I'm not a heavy gamer but I am running a mod on a particular favorite that could use a boost. Thing is, the m/b (being 2.0) can't take full advantage of the card otherwise it might be something of a no brainer. Card has excellent reviews and happens to be on sale.
So there's got to be some people here that have been in a similar situation, wondering spend the coin or not. Lets say the $ isn't an issue, just wondering about what to expect in actual gain.
Using a PCI-e 3.0 card in a PCI-e 2.0 slot will give less performance but not as much as one would think—maybe no more than 10% less—over what it would have done in a PCI-e slot. However, the newer PCI-e 3.0 card very well may give far better performance than an older PCI-e 2.0 card, even when running on only PCI-2.0.http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/335712-pci-express-3-0-card-2-0-slot.html
Well, im an ***. I went ahead and bought a GeForce2 MX 64MB 4X AGP card and forgot that I didn't have an AGP slot on my motherboard. I was wondering if there is anyway to use some sort of adapter so I can still use the board, instead of going through the process of having to sell it.
I doubt that there is any way of using an AGP card on your motherboard. No one would bother to make an adaptor when they can just make a PCI version of the card.
Im trying to install a ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 256 MB AGP 8x, into my old Dell Dimension 4600, replacing a Nvidia GeForce 5600, when i tried to boot up the PC with the ATI Card in i got no signal to the monitor from either DVI/VGA plugs, the card was working im thinking because the Fan on the card itself was working.
My video controller/slot is: AGP8X and i was told this card "ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 256 MB AGP 8x" was compatible, was i lied too?
Looks to me like you are right. The card should work.
Did you try putting your old card back in to see if it works?
Okay so I have been looking around for a while and found 2 graphics cards I like and I was wondering what slot my motherboard has. Here are the CPU-Z details. I really need to know if it is a PCI-E x16
-http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7800.html (NVIDIA GeForce 7800 PCIE x16)
-http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_6600.html (NVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCIE x16)
Thank you so much in advance! If you have any answers, questions, comments, or concerns leave me a comment and I will try to get back to you ASAP.
It appears the motherboard has the following expansion slots:
One PCI Express x16
Two PCI Express x1

My Acer laptop has an empty express card slot that I've just discovered. What can I use this for? Thanks.

The SD Card slot on my Gateway computer running Windows Vista does not read my SD Card. I need help, if anyone knows what the problem is thnks!
We can't tell what the problem is without any info.
Are you sure the card works?
Is it new? Does it have data on it?
Are you sure the card reader works? You've used it successfully before?
What exactly are the symptoms? Error message? Doesn't appear in Computer as a drive letter? Access denied error?
I have a Dell Inspirion 6000 laptop with a SD card slot, XP Pro, SP3. When I plug in 3 different SD cards (16MB, 1GB, 2GB) I get the same error in the device manager. I tried the following:
- Uninstall Device, Reinstall Device
- Tried updating driver, nothing exists per Microsoft
- Found nothing on Dell support
Message in Device Manager - "Device Status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
The cards were verifed on other hardware and I can connect to this PC and read cards using card reader with USB cable. This just started happening within the past 2 months. Hard to pinpoint time because I haven't used slot for a while.
Plz can anybody help me, i want to put a graphic card in my "intel server Board s5000vsa"
but i have only x4 slot free, i searched about an graphic card for this slot but i found nothing.
Plz tell me if you have an suggestion..
Ps: if it is nvidia card is better.
PCI Express x4 (x8 Connectors) Slot
In another thread you posted that you need a PCI-X graphics card: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/794874-graphic-card-pci-x-64-a.html
Which is it, PCI-X or PCI-e? Matrox Odyssey XG is the only PCI-X card made that I know of and is serious overkill unless you are also doing video capture.
Ok, so i have a dell dimension 8250, it has 4 pci card slots and one agp. I am wondering about compatability of pci cards, it has the basic pci slots. The ones with a small connector then a medium sized one.
I want to know if the ones with three connectors on them fit or anything else. it seems that there are almost no cards that are for basic pci anymore.
Plz can you suggest a graphic card for PCI-X 64-bit/133 MHz slot ??
PS: i preffer nvidia card`s.

Hello, I recently discovered that my T520 has a SIM card slot (inside the battery slot) I tried to put my cell phone SIM card in it, but there's no reaction (no "New device connected" popup dialog). What should I do ? Is there a driver + software that needs to be installed ?Which one? Thanks in advance!
Go to Solution.
Your T520 must have the appropriate WWAN hardware (radio card and antenna) in order to function. Otherwise the SIM slot is just a dummy slot. Do you know if you have this hardware installed?
What is the model number of your T520, something like 4239-46U
I was wondering if anyone here has tried this, I have a spare monitor and wondering what you think about doing this. I have an OLD ATI Graphics card (fits PCIE of course) and I know it will work but wondering if it's worth the effort. My 560ti has only a 2 monitor capability and just 1 other PCIE x1 slot is free just above the card.
So anyone here tried this? (I know this works if you do it right.)
(N.B. I have read the websites about how to do this, I am looking for personal, first hand experience.)
Haven't tried it.
I'm confused, though. Are you trying to fit a PCI-E X16 card in an X1 slot? I don't think it's possible.
You can certainly try an X1 card in an X16 slot. I've never seen an X1 graphics card, although I know that they exist.
(I've got an X1 soundcard running in a slot that is X16 mechanical, X4 electrically.)
I recently bought an AGP 8x nVidia 7600gt. However, it doesn't fit into my AGP slot. It is loose and I am scared of putting too much force on it that it will dmaage it.
I'm also not aware of what that tag on the end does?
The smaller of the two slots is facing the front of the computer. I'm also thinking that it isn't aligned properly.
Sometimes, certain cards just don't fit on certain boards. I've had to return a couple because they hit against something. A couple other times, I managed to make them fit by shaving off an edge, but this is risky work and no circuit traces can get damaged in the process.
