Preferred Solution: WIFI not detecting network

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try re-installing the driver.

I have an HP C4385 All in One. Printer works fine and I can access the device embedded web page but I cannot access the scanner. Device Manager shows scanner and includes the IP address.

Scanners and Cameras page shows ICON (scanner & camera as a single Icon). Clicking on it show properties. It says Port = Auto. If I start the HP Scanner software, it just hangs.

Help!

i just bought a hp pavillion 15-R005TX , but it refuses to detect my homes wifi signal .i have gone through the previous posts on this site and i hv changed the ssid name of my router, but still the laptop is not detecting the wifi. Then is used my android phone as a hot spot and it was detected by the laptop but no site not even google could be opened (it may be bcoz of weak signal). i hope to get some solution soon thanks in advance

A:hp laptop not detecting home wifi network

Hello @rohitseth21 , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you're having connection issues on your 15-R005TX notebook.If the notebook sees the hotspot but doesnt see the routers SSID you might be better off inquiring with your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer. Here are some steps you can try. Powercycle the network:1. Shut down your notebook.2. Unplug the power to your router.3. Unplug the power to your modem.4. Wait at least 45 seconds.5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.3. Expand Network adapters.4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.6. Restart your PC and test.If those three steps do not resolve the issue, try this document published by Microsoft for networking issues: Wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the dropdown in the upper-right corner of the document. Hopefully this helps!

Hi everyone,

I need some help with a laptop, all of a sudden it stopped detecting my home WiFi network.

The laptop worked fine with this network before and it was configured to connect automatically.
The laptop detects the whole other bunch of networks around here (neighbours and such) but not my home. Other PCs and smartphones detect and connect to my network just fine.

I tried restarting the laptop, reinstalling and updating the drivers for the WiFi card and nothing worked.

It's an Asus laptop with Windows 8.1

I thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi, I have a HP 15-g009ax. Since a few days it has sarted showing Wifi problem. Certain times after restarting the laptop, the wifi doesn't work. Even the Wifi logo doesn't show in the taskbar. At this time the laptop doesn't detect the wifi. Trouble shooting has also not helped, cause it only detects Lan connection. I have tried updating & reinstalling the drivers, but in vain. The wifi starts automatically after unspecific time & restarts. After removing the battery of the laptop & reinstalling it back, the wifi starts working again. Can you please let me know for what should be the problem. Thanks

Hi @srv7,  Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP 15-ac650tu Notebook and Wireless issues. Here is an excellent starting point. I would uninstall all that is listed in the Network adapter section and restart the Notebook. Here is a link to your driver page. Hello,
I just installed Windows 7 on my laptop, and now the internet connection doesn't work. When I go into the Network and Sharing Center, there are only two options instead of the usual 3. They are " ISAACFOX-PC" and "Internet" and there is a line with a red X in between. The router is not located, although it is working on the desktop I am typing this on. Any suggestions? I am using a Netgear NVG150 router.

Thank you,
Isaac

A:My PC is not detecting WiFi anymore

Hi VVin8 and welcome to the forum. Sorry for the late reply. One of the things I would try first is doing a 30-30-30 reset of the router and set everything up again from scratch. If that doesn't work then maybe a driver problem.

Here is how to do the 30-30-30 reset: Hard reset or 30/30/30 - DD-WRT Wiki

My HP Laptop is not able to discover some of the WiFi networks. The problem is with some Wifi networks, NOT ALL. Some are detected and some are not even listed. I am able to connect to the networks on my mobile that are not shown/detected by my Laptop. Please provide some suggestions so that I can connect to ALL WIFI networks. I've tried updating the drivers, uninstalling and re installing drivers but stuck at the same place.

A:HP r204tx not detecting SOME Wifi networks

Hi: Your notebook only has a single band (2.4 GHz) wifi card, so that may be the reason it does not see all the wireless networks nearby.  It will not see or connect to any wireless network running on the 5.0 GHz band. It should be able to see and connect to any wireless network broadcasting on the 2.4 GHz band.

A:Software not detecting wifi adapter

can we see an ipconfig /all and a device manager screen shot

what windows version

ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

For Windows 8 or Windows 10
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/open-an-elevated-command-prompt-in-windows-8/
Use Windows + X Keys together and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.Or Right click on the windows icon - bottom left hand side - A menu appears - choose Command Prompt (Admin)[/indent]

For windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R
Now type CMD
Now press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt
It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Device Manager

Please Post back the results in device manager as requested below

You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.
If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

how to access device manager for different windows versions

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should now open to allow device manager to be seen, see the menu on the left hand side

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

If the above does not work then

For Windows 7 or Vista

Click on the Start Orb > In the Start Search box type > device manager and then press enter
or
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

For Windows 8 , 8.1 or Windows 10

If you happen to be using a keyboard with Windows 8, the quickest way to open Device Manager is via its shortcut on the Power User Menu, accessible by pressing the WINDOW key and the X key together.
If on a touch screen - have a read here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/device-manager-windows-8.htm

Try changing the channel number on your router, via your router's web-based configuration utility. A higher number is better (in the range 8 to11 gives the best wireless range).

I have a linksys WRT54GS wireless router. I share a wireless connection with a few other people in the house. The security setting are pretty basic, WEP with a simple key, broadcasted ssid and no MAC filtering. Lately we have been experiencing some ridiculous lag and I'm suspecting that we have some freeloaders. My question(s) are:

(A) How do I figure out what devices are accessing my router?

(B) How can I collect the MAC addresses of all the computers in the house without going into each one?

I have a compaq v5000 notebook. With a broadcom 802.11 b/g wlan wireless built in. About 3 days ago it stopped detecting any access points except an unsecured computer to computer network named "CMU" which isn't much help at all

Now I know the Access points exist because when I scan for them on my PSP (Playstation Portable) it can detect and connect to the access points flawlessly.

Anybody have any ideas as to what is happening? I hope my wireless card isnt dying or anything like that.

What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters? What, if any, warnings or errors are anywhere in Device Manager?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool. Also show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I'm in Window 8 on a Toshiba L855-S5112 Satellite laptop. It's an inexpensive laptop, which was most likely my first mistake.

But... My wireless sees nothing, and when I check the device manager for the network adapter info, it's enabled and it reports that it's working fine. the wifi switch is definitely set to on.

With "show hidden devices" turned on, this is what I see for network adaptors:

So... anyone have any leads for me? Direction? I'd appreciate any help at all. Thanks.

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

I've never had problems with this before, but i went travelling and have come back and my laptop simply doesnt seem to detect my network with wireless.

My wireless itself is activated fine and is detecting upto 6 other networks none of which are mine or i can access but i am with Linksys and it's just not detecting that. Internet works fine when i access plugged in with a cable.

We also have another computer in the house with a wireless stick, this however does pick up the Linksys network perfectly, so it must be something to do with the laptop.

Little confused, so any help would be appreciated!

A:detecting network type.

What is the distance from the computer to the wireless access point (router) and what kind of objects are between them? What is the signal strength being reported on your computer?

Have you given your wireless access point a unique, non-default, SSID Name. This should help you in determining if your computer is trying to connect to the right access point.

My pc detects that there is another computer in my network. Thing is I don't have a router or home network in place. I have a wireless cable modem (Motorola). When I check my network and sharing center it shows my pc but it also shows WNR2000 router and WNR2000. Through more looking there is a name for them that is password protected. I also found a place that shows 'people near me'. I do live in an apartment I often see other wireless modems in the connect to, but I have never had one to show up in my network and sharing center.
What if anything do I need to do to correct this issue?

Hi, i have a laptop and it had a version of windows 8 release preview on it. I just finished re-installing windows 7 over top of it with the key that came with the laptop, and when i booted it up it could not connect to the internet. I did some troubleshooting and it looks like i have no network adapter installed. Also, in the device manager under other devices it shows and Ethernet and Network controller and both have a yellow exclamation mark next to them.
I have also read that i should mess around with some options in the control panel > network and internet > network connections menu but there is nothing there! I am at a loss so i am hoping maybe somebody here can give me some advice?

Hello,
I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 onto a laptop which once has had working internet.
Since the installation has been completed, I no longer have access to internet. Wireless or wired.

In the bottom right of the screen it has the network icon with a red X through it. When I try to troubleshoot it says:
Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. Seeing as the network adapter has worked previously I am stumped. I have tried installing drivers but none of them have seemed to work.
It seems like the computer is not registering there is hardware for the internet.

Also, when I go into my device manager, there isn't an option for network adapters there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has been stumping me all day long.

Thanks.

Does your inspiron detect other networks (such as a neighbor's wireless?)
Have you ensured that the wireless radio is turned on? (a switch on the case or a key combination)
Have you ensured that the device is operating properly? (check in Device Manager)
Have you reinstalled the wireless drivers from the Dell website?
Have you checked to see that the wireless card is properly connected and seated in the system's motherboard?

A:Network Error Detecting Printer.

Is this printer connected to another computer or is it one of the network aware HPs?
If the latter, you may either have to rerun the software or try installing it as a local printer. For some reason the printer connected to a router is often considered local.

If connected to another computer make sure print and file sharing is enabled on both.

A:Solved: Wireless Network not detecting

can we see an xirrus screen shot and is your wireless signal listed there ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://wpc.475a.edgecastcdn.net/00475A/XirrusWiFiInspectorSetup.1.2.0.exe

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector/xirruswifiinspectorguide1-2-0.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are here http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_Posting_a_Screenshot

Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better.

If you are using the Mac OS then use http://www.istumbler.net/

When I start up my laptop, the network icon in the lower right area of the task bar appears with a red cross, "Not Connected", despite the Wi-Fi switch on the laptop being in the ON position. And after a few restarts, when the icon does say "Connections available", it only shows Dial-up & VPN networks, and sometimes Mobile Broadband Networks. It doesn't detect any wireless networks. Sometimes, the icon turns into a dial-up icon with a red cross.

I use a BSNL Broadband modem with a NETGEAR wireless router. I haven't faced this problem before. I ran diagnostics, and it says "plug an ethernet adapter". Please help !!

I have attached an image with the diagnostics result, and the troublesome icon is circled in the lower right corner.

A:Cannot detect one particular wireless network, others detecting fine

Make sure your landlord entered the MAC address correctly. Go over it with him again. Also, make sure you are recording the correct number. I've made mistakes in the past and recorded the incorrect number. From a command prompt, type; ipconfig /all
Look for the wireless adapters physical address.
I once wrote down the "ethernet" adapter's address and then spent hours trying to figure out why I couldn't connect.

The network cable is plugged in and working. All the drivers are up to date.

What's wrong with it???

Cheers

Following a windows update Not Wireless Windows Detecting Adapter Network my desktop wasn t able to connect to my router Everything seemed normal apart from this the adapter appeared in Device Manager the list of available connections appeared as they should but Windows Not Detecting Wireless Network Adapter I would get the error message quot Windows is unable to connect to the network quot whenever I tried to connect I tried just about every fix I Windows Not Detecting Wireless Network Adapter found on Google but I was unable to resolve this Fortunately after simply restarting my PC a number of times it would eventually connect it s set to connect automatically to the network I was trying to reach So for a few days I would go through this routine of restarting a bunch of times to finally connect It was troublesome and of course I wanted to fix it so I tried to system restore to a date before it begun happening days back Turns out this was a mistake as after the system restore I was met with no connections at all On top of that my network adapter doesn t even show in the Device Manager any more After trying a few more options I decided to reinstall Windows That s pretty much where I am now - a fresh install of Windows and device manager still isn t finding my adapter not even as hidden device unknown or requires updates etc My motherboard is a GA-Z X-D H and I think have downloaded the appropriate drivers yet I still have no results The LED on my adapter doesn t work although I m not sure if it ever did although pinging in command prompt yields a response In my newbie realm of understanding this means that my adapter is still alive I took out the adapter and reseated it and the problem continues I hope it s a problem with Windows and not with my hardware I can hope for now at least that somebody here is more experienced than me aka everybody and has some insight to share as I m totally lost now Thank you for anyone who took the time to read this wall of text nbsp

A:Windows Not Detecting Wireless Network Adapter

I lean more towards the adapter.
1. The fact that it required several restarts to "come to life" and connect to your network.
2. A system restore did not fix the problem.
3. A clean install of windows 7 did not fix the problem.

Easy way to check, buy a USB wifi adapter, plug it in to a USB port and see if you can connect.

Hi Techguy Forum.

A few months a go I got a PC and so I bought this ASUS 802.11n USB Network adapter so I can connect to the Internet wireless. The OS for this PC is Windows 7 and the USB Network adapter works fine.

Since I am a gamer, I want to switch the Wireless over to my other PC (Windows XP) and connect the router locally.

Whenever I try to connect the USB network adapter on to my Windows XP it wont recognize it as a Network adapter.

I have tried installing the driver
Uninstalling, rebooting the reinstalling

I notice the USB device doesn't light up when it does when I normally connect it to my Windows 7 PC.

I am using a ASUS N13 802.11n usb wireless adapter by the way.

Hello everybody. I am new to this site and I really need some help here. I my computer had gotten infected with some malware that led me to the extreme of formatting my hard drive. After this is done, reinstalled win XP and was going to use our COMCAST (internet provider) disk to restablish our internet connection but now, it is stating that my network adapter is not being found. its integrated i guess. I dont have the specs for my system, but hopefully I can get some basics onto how to get the internet going again!

Thanks in Advance

I had just reinstalled Windows 7 professional on my laptop (dell latitude E6440) because of some issues. Well the reinstall went thru perfectly and had no problems. But now it won't connect to the Internet and won't let me make a connection. A box keeps coming up saying "not connected-no connections are available". Then when I click on the Internet and try to set up a new connection it comes up saying "Windows did not detect any networking hardware". This kinda sucks so I was wondering if anyone could help me out and figure out how to fix this.

We have a new Notebook running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit which wont detect our home network. My own notebook running the same OS does with no problems. I spent a lot of money on a new gaming pc and it has been a complete nightmare from the start. I have wireless network at home so I had to het a usb wifi adapter, the Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter.

Its setup cannot complete because it is stuck eternally at "detecting adapter"

I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.

A:Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter stuck detecting adapter

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

My PC is not detecting my wifi hotspot.

I've used the diagnose tool and the result comes back as 'This computer does not have a wireless network adaptor installed and configured'.

However, in device manager under network adapters, NVIDIA Network Controller is listed.

Also, there is an unknown device with a yellow explanation mark. I am unable to update the drivers via internet.

If it helps, here is my system info:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ 2.01 GHz

After being disconnected for about a year, I hooked up my PC again yesterday. Everything worked fine except for the sound, so I figured I would just upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista - when I did that, the sound worked, but my nvidia nforce network adapter stopped detecting wireless networks (worked just fine in Windows Vista). I've tried installing the latest drivers for the adapter and it did not work. Any ideas?

Hello,
I have reinstalled Windows 7 but cannot connect to the internet. Windows Network Diagnostics says "did not detect properly installed network adapter."
Which adapter do I need?  I searched for and tried installing all possible compatible drivers on Dell's support site, but none worked.   I did this by downloading them on a computer that did have internet access, copying the drivers to a USB stick, then copying them to and installing them on my E6530.  The driver files unzipped, but then installation aborted each time.
My Latitude E6530 is running 32 bit Windows 7 Pro with Intel Core i5-3320M at 2.6 GHz
Thank you.

i started sharing wifi with my neighbors last month, they broadcast the dsl signal from next door via their router in exchange for a small payment from me. it's just a regular home network setup, i just enter the network key to get access. i am wondering if it's possible and/or easy for them to look up what internet browsing (mainly web, but what about ftp or peer-to-peer filesharing) i've been doing. occasionally i visit the 'seedier side' of the internet, both for work and pleasure, but don't think they're the kind of people who would appreciate that at all. this something i should worry about?

Okay, usually when you hover over the networks listed and available from the taskbar icon, you get a nice little window with a few helpful tidbits of info for each listed network when you mouse action hover over the names. It tells you the encryption type, and the SSID, plus a few other details.

Well, on my computer, the information is appearing behind the list to where I can't read it. The network list is overlapping on top of the hover info. Talk about annoying. I searched for various things on google, with no luck. I tried:

Windows 7 network list obscuring hover details, and various other combinations to no avail. Anyone here have a clue what might be breaking this? I'd like the hover details to appear properly so I can read it. In the meantime I've installed the free version of Acrylic Wifi to work around the issue. Thanks.

A:Wifi Network info/details appearing behind Network List on hover.

The problem must be driver based or an add-on program because I don't get any of that. All I get is the name and whether it's connected or not. Check that your adaptor driver is up to date and/or the program you use to display the data is up to date.

Forgot to mention:
Dell adds "bloatware" to their PCs to "improve the user's experience" so I would check Dell Support for your specific model and look for updates.

I'm building a subscription wifi network for our area.

Cisco Aironet 1550 series: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5679/ps11451/data_sheet_c78-641373.html
Proxim Orinocor series: http://www.proxim.com/products/enterprise-wireless-lan-wi-fi-mesh/orinocor-wi-fi-mesh-series

The Proxim seems like the better product, and sells for a bit less.

Will I need to purchase anything else besides several of these for the network? I'm assuming the 'home' router connects to a PC (or the PC via the gateway address) for managing the network.

Thanks allot for your insight.

Is there a way to setup network profiles or something so that when I bring my Surface Pro to work and connect to the wireless network there it will use the static ip address I have but when I disconnect and then connect to my home wifi it will go back to DHCP? On my MacBook Pro I can go into the network settings and change the location profile I have setup for networks but I don't see anything like this for Windows 8.

A:Specific network settings based on wifi network

You can go into IPv4 Properties of this NIC, then you can use the Alternate configuration tab to set up the alternate IP, or use the Advanced tab to add a static IP/gateway/DNS etc. to TCP/IP.

Sorry if this has already been discussed. Couldn't find on a search.

I have a small secured network in my office with a modem/router networking three computers wirelessly. I would like to add another router that would allow clients in the waiting room of my office to have internet access. Could you assist me in a setup or map? I already have a wireless Linksys router available to use as the second router.

Thank You

A:Adding Wifi Network to an Already Secured Network

Are those in the waiting room to be allowed into OR forbidden access to your Lan systems?

You already have

Code:
modem---router----your.lan.systems
to Isolate the W.R from your lan, connect

Code:

modem---router----your.lan.systems (assumed 192.168.1.x or 0.x)
|
+---new router (new channel+ssid+no encryption)
set LAN addresses and DHCP for 192.168.10.x

add firewall rule to ALL your existing LAN systems to deny src address range=192.168.10.0 thru 10.255

Hi,

I'm with Cogeco cable ISP and would like to use a wireless router. Cogeco tells me that they do not support wireless routers although a cable technician told me that D-Link WiFi routers work and LinkSys ones don't,

Can anybody tell me which wireless routers work with Cogeco?
and Where I can purchase one?

Thanks

I suspect that almost any standard name brand router will work. There's nothing unique about their service, I suspect the tech just liked D-Link.

I have run the diagnostic and it tells me that "the default gateway is not available" What the heck does that mean and how do I resolve this please?

The stupid thing is that every so often the icon shows that I have internet but when I open my browser (Firefox) it won't link to any sites.

Try this:

In Device Manager, right-click on the NIC and select Properties. Then go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck the box that says "let computer turn off to save power". See if that makes a difference.
