PXE-E61 error: Dell laptop reboots, but after random number of attempts

Q: PXE-E61 error: Dell laptop reboots, but after random number of attempts

Dell Inspiron N4110, Windows 7 Home, purchased 2010.

PXE-E61 error msg. Checked boot order. Constantly reverts to the Boot Order screen when not active for a few hours. Have to reboot numerous times (sometimes many, sometimes just a few) before it randomly boots up successfully. Very suspicious it's a hardware problem. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Hate to throw this laptopaway; it works well when it's up and running.

Thanks.

Preferred Solution: PXE-E61 error: Dell laptop reboots, but after random number of attempts

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello I have a new laptop about months old Dell Studio Windows Home Premium bit OEM From day one I had this annoying problem - the system reboots with no BSOD while surfing while using apps or just when idle To make a long story short - after chatting with dell I replaced a Dell reboots - Random Studio 1558 faulty hard drive a few days ago and on the HDD came Dell Studio 1558 - Random reboots a freshly installed OS I only installed Office and let the computer to run After hours while idle the computer rebooted without any dmp file - only an event quot windows did not shut down properly quot appeared in the event log I spoke to Dell once again and they mentioned something about a motherboard replacement but they want to send me a tech before taking this step I really don't want to replace the motherboard because they are not sure what is the problem and I have a feeling that they will replace it and the problem will persist I decided to wait and try with your help - to identify the problem I have monitored the temperature of the CPU GPU and HDD - no problem there I ran verifier for hours and the computer crashed twice - but this time it Dell Studio 1558 - Random reboots did leave BSOD and dmp files The first crash was while shutting down the computer and the second crash occured while word powerpoint were running The Zip file includes the dmp files zipped while using your BSOD Dump amp System File Collection app Thank You

A:Dell Studio 1558 - Random reboots

Random reboots like that are most often caused by hardware. A bad motherboard could cause that, and PSU is another likely cause.

I did run the dumps, looking for a software cause. The dumps seem to support the notion that your USB mouse is having problems. Could you remove the mouse and see what happens?

Since you don't even have to send your laptop in for repair, I would recommend you just go with the tech. Make a system image, though, in case he decides to wipe your drive.

Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

It is almost certain bad drivers are not the cause, but just for the heck of it, install some updated ones.

Install these Realtek network adapter drivers: 218.210.127.131/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Windows Live Messenger - Change Number of Reconnect Attempts + Maximize Security

Hi,
I have a small issue with the Windows Live Messenger automatic reconnect feature, and was wondering if there is any way to change it.
Thing is, whenever I lose my internet connection for a minute, Messenger obviously disconnects, and attempts to reconnect after a certain amount of time (~1 minute). Usually its first 2 attempts fail at connecting to my account, and then the attempts stop.
I need a way to make Messenger try to reconnect once or twice more, because usually the 4th-5th time I try, Messenger gets it right.

Thank you very much for any help whatsoever.
Greatly appreciated.

A:Windows Live Messenger - Change Number of Reconnect Attempts

as far as i know there's not a way to change this, usually it will keep trying to reconnect with longer intervals in between, but obviously this is not the case here

i expect it would be a set thing in the program's code and not something that you could change easily

My laptop has a finger print reader. Quite often this fails to recognize me. How can I increase the number of attempts that I am allowed?

Also why does 'Hello' get mentioned in the error message? Is there a facial recognition facility?

A:Finger print reader - Increase number of attempts for W10 logon?

Hello machare,

As you maybe aware the fingerprint recognition is part of the Windows Hello sign in options. You can remove and add fingerprints using the Account Settings page as shown below. You may need to redo your fingerprint for better recognition. I am not aware that you can reset the number of tries but you can add multiple fingerprints.

Hello,

From few months i have problem with random reboots. Cannot find any pattern. Sometimes i openning a browser, sometimes playing games, sometimes just playing music. But always theres an report of event 7023. System cannot find a specific file.

System is quite old (2010?) so it might be driver related, or maybe hardware. Not sure.
I tried this tool : Intel? Driver Update Utility
But all i got is blue screen shortly after loading an applet.

Problem started when my system was on hdd, it was very annoying (boot time >1m) so i cloned it to ssd. Its much better but problem still occurs.

I will appreciate any help.

For some reason my computer restarts randomly and it doesn't give me any blue screen errors or anything. I tried figuring out this myself but nothing came to mind. This is what the windows error report gave me.

BCCode : 1000000a BCP1 : 0000001C BCP2 : 000000FF BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 804DC9B1 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

A:Random Reboots with BCCode error

What you show are memory dumps resulting from the error. The BCP1, BCP2... etc... relate to errors reported as Broadcast Pulse 1, Broadcast Pulse 2... etc. And usually indicate that you have a hardware error... most likely a bad memory module or incorrect memory module... Such reports can also be generated on some motherboards by defective power supplies, cpu fans, video graphics devices, PCI devices, hard drives, optical drives, and so on. Sometimes these are difficult to diagnose, but changing out a lot of common components with similar devices... or by reduction to a simple system of power supply, floppy drive, one memory module, and video connection.... all other devices disconnected. Then if that works, add additional components one at a time until you reach a point where you again start having failures.
It can be something as simple as a loose cable, so you can start by disconnecting power plug, then unplugging and reseating each cable.

My computer is randomly rebooting and I'm getting random error messages saying something has shut down unexpectedly. Sometimes when the computer reboots I get a message telling me "Windows has recovered from a serious error". The last time it did this when the machine rebooted it came up to Check Disk and ran a scan, which found nothing.

I've scanned with MSE, MBAM and SAS. I have a complete ghost of the system from the 30th of December 2010.

This machine was recently cleaned with help from y'all but it still seems to be a little flaky.

Here's the link to the last thread on this machine;

Hi I m having a huge problem and I don t Error No Message Whatsoever Random Reboots And know if it is hardware or software related The error can not be reproduced it happens in an seemingly random manner it doesn t matter if the PC is doing something or not The symptom is pretty straight forward every day at least once the PC reboots as in reset without warning I ve read many arcticles on the interwebs and tried most of those solutions The Random Reboots And No Error Message Whatsoever problem first occured with a different windows installation So I put up the system from the beginning thinking it was related to malware or the likes So what I did from the beginning is - format C drive - installed newest BIOS for my mainboard thinking it could be a virus in there - pulled network plug - installed windows XP professional all updates for SP SP and finally all updates for SP from winhelpline - network still unplugged installed ESET NOD - installed spybot and firefox network plugged in again update to all program - ran the following programs a-squared Free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Spybot - Search amp Destroy SpywareBlaster McAfee Stinger Thinking the problem should be gone it happend again - bought new memory because that seemed to be the most obvious choice Well that didn t resolve the problem either So here I am today having to live with these annoying reboots which hurt my hard drive The only things left I can think of are - some rootkit or malware - maybe the power supply has some sort of defect W which should be enough - bought a used graphics card ATI X PCIE which is the only new hardware before this started happening Now I don t have a clue on how to proceed and get rid of this error

A:Random Reboots And No Error Message Whatsoever

Try the steps here to locate any error messages: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry409491If there aren't any error messages in those locations, then most likely the crash is occurring below the threshold that Windows can recognize. The problem that you describe is most likely heat related - but could be with almost any component of your system. It's likely that it occurs when a program stresses a particular piece of hardware - so figuring out what's running at the time that it crashes is the most likely way to start to isolate it. This includes not only the programs that you're using, but also any scheduled tasks that may execute at that time.

I have a Windows laptop that I just use whenever I actually need a laptop which isn't often As such it's been a while since I used it last but it was working fine I've just gone to use it today and as soon as my wallpaper showed up before the desktop icons had even loaded after logging in it rebooted Did it again the second time The third time it managed to last about ten minutes then rebooted Since then it's just been rebooting at random It reboots if I let it sit Error Random - No No Messages Reboots BSOD, on the lock screen It rebooted when I tried to open Firefox It Random Reboots - No BSOD, No Error Messages rebooted just sitting on the desktop It's somewhat difficult to troubleshoot given it keeps rebooting before I can do much but I've managed to scour the event viewer and find no trace of any problems other than 'the system shut down unexpectedly' no kidding I've turned off 'automatically restart' in the advanced system settings for a system failure I've checked and there's no MEMORY DMP file There's never been a BSOD it Random Reboots - No BSOD, No Error Messages just goes straight to a black screen There's no error message or anything when it boots back up Nothing as far as I know has changed between the last time I had it functioning perfectly fine and today No new software no new hardware no nothing

So I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my machine about the beginning of August.

Every so often my machine will randomly reboot and after its done I do have a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" message.

This is what's included for the codes:

BCCode : 24
BCP1 : 001902FE
BCP2 : B6C83620
BCP3 : B6C8331C
BCP4 : 804ED694
OSVer : 5_1_2600
SP : 3_0
Product : 768_1

This is rather annoying but unfortunately I don't know how to look up these codes to fix these issues. If more info is needed, please let me know and I would be happy to provide it.

The codes indicate Windows has discovered a problem and is attempting to debug. The causes are numerous so let's start by making sure your computer is free of any "bad guys".

A:[SOLVED] Random Reboots/BSOD Crashes (Various Error messages)

Hi,

We have two frequent bug checks:

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a)

This indicates that a severe memory management error occurred.

BugCheck 1A, {31, ffffe000020c77d0, ffffd00022aae000, ffffc00008db96b8}

- The 1st parameter of the bug check is 31 which indicates the image relocation fix-up table or code stream has been corrupted. This is probably a hardware error.

In addition to 31 as the 1st parameter, we also have 41792 in another dump which indicates a corrupted PTE has been detected.

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM (24)

This indicates a problem occurred in ntfs.sys, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS drives.

One possible cause of this bug check is disk corruption. Corruption in the NTFS file system or bad blocks (sectors) on the hard disk can induce this error. Corrupted SCSI and IDE drivers can also adversely affect the system's ability to read and write to disk, thus causing the error.

Another possible cause is depletion of nonpaged pool memory. If the nonpaged pool memory is completely depleted, this error can stop the system. However, during the indexing process, if the amount of available nonpaged pool memory is very low, another kernel-mode driver requiring nonpaged pool memory can also trigger this error.

Run Memtest for NO LESS than ~8 passes (several hours). If it passes, run chkdsk (paste log afterwards) and then Seatools:

Memtest86+:

Download Memtest86+ here:

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Which should I download?

You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

How Memtest works:

Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.

The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps for 90 minutes before checking to see if bits have changed (perhaps because of refresh problems). This is repeated with all ones for a total time of 3 hours per pass.

Many chipsets can report RAM speeds and timings via SPD (Serial Presence Detect) or EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles), and some even support changing the expected memory speed. If the expected memory speed is overclocked, Memtest86 can test that memory performance is error-free with these faster settings.

Some hardware is able to report the "PAT status" (PAT: enabled or PAT: disabled). This is a reference to Intel Performance acceleration technology; there may be BIOS settings which affect this aspect of memory timing.

This information, if available to the program, can be displayed via a menu option.

Any other questions, they can most likely be answered by reading this great guide here:

A:Random Reboots. Error Codes: 1000008e, 1000000a, 0000004e

All four of your errors cite the same Nvidia display driver nv4_disp.dll

I suggest doing the following:

1. Download Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper (both have free versions) to your desktop screen and install.

2. Download the latest diver(s) for your video card but don't install them.

3. Uninstall your video card drivers and reboot your PC into Safe Mode. Run Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper. If it doesn't find any video card drivers that is quite okay.

4. Reboot and install new video card drivers.

A glance at the minidumps suggests that the Nvidia video driver is to blame. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.

I have a lenovo u400, my processor is an i5 and it run around 50 C when doing normal browsing. runs at 60-70 C when watching movies or light gaming. My Tj. max is 100 C, never seen it pass 75 C. I just bought my laptop a month ago, so I don't know what's the deal. When I touch the bottom of my laptop is feels pretty cool.

I have ran malwarebytes and MSE and have not found anything. I have also ran a memory test and everything looks fine.

It usually happens when I'm watching a video from a website. My computer just reboots, no bsod or error message. I don't know what to do next. What can I do to troubleshoot this further?

A:Laptop reboots randomly, no bsod or error message

Hi Berkguy

Based on your logs...

Most of shutdown or reboots are caused by your graphics driver... ATI Catalyst.....

Quote:
The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

which is related to

ATI EEU failed to post message to CCC

Suggest you update your ATI drivers from the manufactures website...

and a few are related to system getting really high temperature.

Quote:
Kernal Power .....

ACPI thermal zone ACPI\ThermalZone\TZS0 has been enumerated.

Again since you said .... the laptop looks cool...... and based on the above errors.... i am sure these shutdown were also due the drivers putting the graphics at high temps.....

Let me know your feedback

Hi all

My colleague has a Dell laptop. We've run 'MemTest x86' and let it do a few passes - no errors found. Run a full CHKDSK - no errors found. Run 'driver verifier - no errors found, or BSOD'.

Please find all attached files, as requested in the BSOD guide.

Thank you for your time,
David.

Hi david

You have 4-5 crash causes that are all over the map. Usually indicative of a hardware issue. The only thing untoward I can see is the AVG. On some systems it is problematic.

usually we recommend removing it and replacing with Microsoft security essentials to test. If it cures it fine, if not then go back to what you like.

AVG - Download tools

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Re: memtest it needs a min of 5-6 passes to sufficiently stress the memory enough that if it is going to fail it will.

I've had this Dell Studio 15 laptop (Windows 7, Intel Core i7-720QM Quad Core Mobile CPU) for a bit under 2 months and it randomly restarts on me. Four times since yesterday. I'm not sure if its had the problem since I got it or if its from something I installed (like a bunch of BIOS and drivers from support.dell.com even though I didn't know what they were for) or if something else happened along the way, but it's pretty annoying.

The laptop will restart to a screen that says "Windows Did Not Shut Down Successfully" and let me choose to start Windows normally or in different Safe Modes. Any help is appreciated!

Have you been getting a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), or just a hard restart?Download BlueScreenViewNo installation required.Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program. When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Hey everyone To begin my system specs are in my profile but I can post them here if that is preferred I have had a nightmare with this thing and I need some help You see I built it just fine but when I did the processor was overheating After complying to Intel's requests to check many other things they finally let me RMA the old processor and to be on Attempts Many Random After Need Resolve Rebooting, to Help the safe side I got a new heatsink for it too Now the new processor runs just fine at C maximum and I had a perfectly running computer for a few days Now it randomly restarts for what appears Random Rebooting, Need Help After Many Attempts to Resolve to be no reason I called all of the manufacturers of my parts for help and they all offered the same general advice I began by checking if everything was installed correctly I thought it was and got a second confirming opinion from someone else I have referred to all of my manuals numerous times as well After all of that I first checked if the RAM cards were the problem I found that neither one is a problem on Random Rebooting, Need Help After Many Attempts to Resolve its own and the CAS Random Rebooting, Need Help After Many Attempts to Resolve latency that I have set for them or rather that the mobo set for them was indeed correct I then looked at the website for my hard drive and got the program they recommended to check for errors on it That came out clean but to be sure I also used the Windows Installation Disk's repair options to check my memory which also came out fine I'm not actually sure if that checked my RAM or the hard drive I am also assuming that the CPU is fine because I just got it RMA'd and I'll have more on why in a moment Now I am not sure if it is the mobo itself or perhaps my video card I was told that it could be the power supply but in that case the problem would be happening less frequently more like once a month or so to begin than almost every time I log in to Windows I also checked that automatic updating wasn't on and somehow causing problems as well as the sleep mode options Then I tried reinstalling Windows just to be sure Now I'm currently stuck trying to enter the product key and everything before the computer resets itself After that I tried cleaning the RAM and Video Card slots to be sure there was no dust in there causing the problems I am aware that with my case being high air flow that dust could cause problems in the future for me if I do not keep it all clean Then I tried the advanced boot options to tell it not to restart when it encounters an error so that I could get in there and find out what the error has been No luck there What I really don't get is that it NEVER reset itself while I played games except in two instances when I tried starting up a game I built this as a gaming computer It always reset itself while I was doing less intensive operations which is why I thought it might have been a software problem and not a hardware problem And to be clear it is not a heat issue The CPU monitor I have I can look up what it's called if you would like as well as the GPU monitor I have tell me that those two parts are fine and at normal temperatures I would consider that the power supply might somehow me overheating but if that were the case then the whole thing would turn off at once but instead my monitor just turns off and then the sound and everything else goes So does anyone have any idea what I should do

Can you roll back the display driver to an earlier version that worked good there?

Also, stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us.

Sir or Ma'am, We at my house really appreciate your reply.I turned off this computer since the last post on June 6, 2010.I have been checking online from a different computer daily for replies, which is infected as well.I assume we should fix them one at a time, as two others are in the same condition, and possibly a third; correct?Okay as for Today June 14, 2010 at 3:50pm Central when I turned on my computer it had no internet connection.I had to manually go to Control Panel and start a new connection. I have a Dell Inspiron 17R (7010) that I bought brand new and only used for about a year. The system keeps crashing, displaying various error codes that range from memory management to bad pool header.

I've tried replacing the hard drive, the RAM cards, testing the video card, reinstalling Windows 7 AND flashing the BIOS. Someone please help me figure out what's going on with this thing.

I can say that I will absolutely never purchase a Dell again, simply for the customer service. I was a month inside of my warranty when this started happening, and Dell kept putting me off until the remainder of my warranty expired. THEN they spent more time trying to talk me into renewing the warranty than they spent trying to help me solve the problem. Any help would be greatly apprreciated.

Hello,

I'm getting random unexpected restarts and BSODs on the Dell Studio Laptop I just bought on 4/13/2010. It's had issues for months.

The OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit full version, the system is 8 months old and so is the OS installation, the system is all stock, it's service tag is: 61N64K1.

I've analyzed the event viewer and dump files and haven't found anything conclusive.

Esspecially has issues coming out of sleep and when plugged into a Kensington Univeral USB docking station with 2 monitors, random freezes and restarts.

If you could assist or point me to any training resouces for troubleshooting at this level, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ivan

A:Random BSODs on Dell Studio Laptop 1458

Hello,

The dumps don't indicate any sure cause. We can only make guesses at this point.

I see you have an old version of McAfee installed:
Code:
mfeavfk.sys Thu Dec 17 17:53:17 2009 (4B2AB65D)
mfehidk.sys Thu Dec 17 17:52:07 2009 (4B2AB617)
mfetdik.sys Thu Dec 17 17:52:14 2009 (4B2AB61E)
Update that to the latest version, as older versions of anti-virus programs have been notorious for causing BSODs.

If that doesn't do the trick, could you enable driver verifier? Hopefully that will flag any drivers causing this.

Hi,

Have a brand new laptop, but in the last 2 weeks, I've been getting several BSOD's. Did the Dell onboard diagnostic which didn't find fault with the hardware.

The BSOD's are completely random, can't really see a pattern. When it happens, it normally happens in quick succession. Had a look with bluescreenview, but because there's so many different files giving issues, I thought I'll check here first.

Attached please find the file, or let me know if I should do anything else.

I've just enabled Driver Verifier, so will see how that goes.

Dell 17R laptop
Intel Core i7-4500
16gb Ram
ATI Radeon 8870M Dedicated / Intel HD onboard
Windows 8 SL 64-bit

Thanks!

Most of your dumpfiles blames Probably caused by : atikmdag.sys ( atikmdag+722feb )
This is the driver for your AMD 8870M videocard.
Because you have a Dell Inspiron 5737 you need customized drivers from Dell.
Please download the windows 8 drivers from here Driver Details | Dell South Africa

First post--

At first I though it was a keyboard problem...so I replaced it and im still having this problem...
Things it's doing---
the "a" key does a tab
the "s" key turns on and off caps locks
the "d" key brings up a search
sometimes when I press one letter it will output 2. (EX. I press "y" and it outputs "yj"
Searches randomly come up
The startbar randomly comes up and opens up old documents of mine
It randomly logs me out.

Im on a Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP Home Edition

Also I've recently done a virus scan with AVG (paid) and it didnt find any viruses

Anyone have any suggestions?

A:Dell Laptop typing and doing wierd random things

We need to know if this is a Windows problem or a hardware problem.

Get a bootable CD; any CD that boots to a command prompt will do--Linux Live CD, Ultimate Boot CD, etc. What we're wanting to do is get an OS running that does not activate the copy of Windows on your hard disk.

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

See if your keyboard behaves the same with the other OS on the boot CD. Let us know your result. If it behaves the same, then you have a hardware problem. If it doesn't, then we know it's a Windows problem. Until we determine that, we don't know which to work on.

Hello,
I have a new(ish) Dell XPS Laptop which is approx 3/4 months old so its still under warranty.
I have been in touch with Dell but they keep fobbing me off without fixing the problem.

For the past 3 weeks I have been getting random BSOD, sometimes I am using the machine, sometimes not. I am a developer/desiger so I have a lot of apps installed like illustrator, fireworks, visual studio but there are times when none of these are running, its crashing even when surfing the web.

I have attached a zip file as per instructions for posting in this category - I really hope someone can help me with this as its driving me crazy!

Dell XPS L702X 17" Laptop
Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Core i7-2760 QM CPU @ 2.4GHz
8GB RAM
220GB SSD HD

Thanks in advance
Will.

A:MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION hal.dll+12818 - Random BSOD on Dell XPS Laptop

Your Windows install appears to be corrupted.Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.

I am having agonizing issues with my computer.

Here they are in order of largest headache:

1. Reboots at random (I'll walk into the room to find it rebooting itself)

2. Often while restarting, I get "BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK..." error message. I have to use a WIN98 startup disk.

3. Often while restarting, I get "CPU was set to an incorrect speed...etc" error message in the BIOS menu - even though I have the BIOS set to 733MHz (the alleged speed).

I own a PC with WIN98, 733MHz PIII, 256 RAM, ASUS P3v4x motherboard with a 30G baraccuda HD.

Any help or guidance in resolving any/all these issues would be !MUCH appreciated!!!

A:Computer reboots at random + "no boot disk" error

The only thing I can thing of that would be in common to all three would be a heat related error. Check all your cooling fans, clean out the case using compressed air. Try leaving the case cover off and placing a fan blowing into the case.

Although the problems are inline with an overclocked cpu also.

A bad memory stick could also be related. If you have multiple sticks try removing one at a time and see if the problem clears up.
You can check, for that cpu your multiplier should be 5.5 and front side bus of 133mhz.

Depending on your bios version you may want to visit asus and download the latest bios flash. I know there have been a few for that motherboard fixing various errors. If you do, follow the instructions exactly as bad flash are a nightmare.

I am attempting to make serviceable a Dell Inspiron laptop for a local charity It was purchased at a car boot sale for US forum members it's a bit like a large public garage sale and I have no idea of its history I have restored the factory image from the recovery partition and once booted up the laptop seems to work well Some of the front lights never come on and the touchpad buttons do not work so it isn't perfect but these problems are not important in use However the laptop almost always takes two attempts before it will boot up The first attempt very quickly gets past the Dell splash screen and then there is a horizontal progress bar and two Dell Inspiron takes attempts nearlyalways start to the words quot microsoft corporation quot The progress bar never stops but having done a forced shutdown and restart I get a screen offering me the option of a repair or a normal startup The repair option takes a long time but ends by saying that a startup repair could not be done Selecting a normal startup usually achieves this Dell Inspiron nearlyalways takes two attempts to start and subsequent startups soon afterwards also work properly After an hour or more the problem returns This is my first experience of Vista as I am said very quietly an Apple man so any suggestions as to what I can do to identify or fix the cause of this problem would be appreciated

A:dell xps studio 1647 laptop pressing random buttons

Hi,
Quick question, Your model has Quickset buttons? usually Quickset is a application You install when loading Windows. What happens if You disable Quikset temporarily?

I'm not recollecting the layout of Your Dell.
The service manual is here

If the quickset buttons are separate as I seem to recall, they may have been damaged too. If not is there a possibility more liquid has been spilled into the keyboard?

Some trouble shooting You could do. Using the service manual and being very careful as the connectors are delicate unhook the Keyboard and test using a USB keyboard.

Any chance You can take it back to the Technician and ask why this is happening when they said only the keyboard was defective.

Good Luck
Roger

Initial inspection shows it to possibly be a conflict between an AVG filter driver and a Peerblock filter driver. Check for updates on both of them, as I'm seeing them (especially Peerblock) being pretty dated. Note that you may even need to remove one of them, as by design they both operate on the same principle and will clash against each other when handling the same resources.

Welcome to TechSpot! Your thread is better suited to the Windows OS or Hardware forum, so I m going to ask the moderator to move it. I hope you subscribed to the thread because we don't email the reply.

If I had to give you a quick answer, I's suggest replacing the video card.

Though I've set it to 'automatically' my laptop won't connect to my wireless modem on startup I have to do it manually most of the laptop connect manual wireless first attempts won't to time and this takes a lot of attempts The first - minutes I'm doing it manually clicking on my network name and choosing 'connect' It will then often say failed and I have to do it again and again and again Finally it either connects by itself after all or one of my manual attempts is successful Both cases I now am connected and have no problems staying connected So laptop won't connect to wireless first manual attempts I'm guessing there's no hardware error since it all works after that and I don't loose the connection The next day I startup my laptop again And again I have to manually try to get a connection for the first minutes Again after a lot of attempts it finally connects and I can internet again problem free I've laptop won't connect to wireless first manual attempts updated the Broadcom adapter driver and Windows is also fully updated What else can I check What can cause my laptop to not being able to connect the laptop won't connect to wireless first manual attempts first few attempts while staying connected once it finally does connect All my other equipment netbook imac iPhone don't have a problem so it's also not my modem at fault Any suggestions where to check on my laptop to find the problem

A:laptop won't connect to wireless first manual attempts

A suggestion. Next time you have fought your way to a connection, click on the wi-fi symbol at the right hand end of your taskbar. this will bring up a list of the routers active within range, your own should be at the top of the list. Click on it, and it will expand into a bigger bar with a 'Disconnect' button.

Do NOT click on the 'Disconnect' button !  Right click anywhere else on this bar and a little menu will pop up. Click on 'Properties'. This will bring up a dialogue box called 'SSID wireless Network Properties' ( SSID is the name assigned to your router, mine is 'Begonia' - it's easier to pick out from a crowd ! )

On the tab called 'Security', make sure that the settings shown are correct for your network, change them is necessary, and that the access code is correct. Tick the box 'Show characters' to allow you to read it.

On the tab called 'Connection', it will show the name of your router, with three tick boxes below it. Make sure that the top one - Connect automatically - is ticked and you could try ticking the bottom one - Connect even if SSID is not being transmitted.

The above normally works. If it doesn't, you have a fairly exotic problem. Post back !

hey all,

how would i generate a random number thats less than 12 and put it in an integer??

thanx for the help

A:Random Number

Dim Random As Integer
Randomize
Random = Int(Rnd() * 12) + 1

That is all there is to it. Rnd() returns a random value between 0 and 1 therefore * 12 returns between 0 and 11 round this down and add one gets you a final range of 1 - 12.

Hi folks,

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 lappy that will not boot into Windows XP.
The error message I get is:

hal.dll is missing or corrupt, replace or re-install file
<windows Root>/system32/hal.dll

This is where it all ends. If I go into DOS and look at the contents of C: everytime i try to go into a directory,e.g: cd windows - I get an Access Denied message.
I need to save the data on this drive so I cannot just re-install the OS over the top with the Dell disks.
Any ideas how I can get either into the sys32 folder or how i can copy the contents to another drive? (I did buy an IDE to 2.5HDD cable but the connection is different from the Dell HDD!)

Many thanks for any help!!!

A:Lsass.exe Error on Dell Laptop

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed information.

To better understand do let me know when did this error occur for the first time and what are the applications running at that time. Also, have you made any software or hardware changes recently?
Do check the status of computers functionality in safe mode with networking and let me know if the issue persists.
To boot to safe mode with networking, restart the computer and on dell logo start tapping on the F8 key until you see Advanced Boot Options. You will find safe mode with networking as one of the options. Select that and hit enter.
Please post back the results.

I am trying to write a method that I can pass in two values (low number, high number) and will return a non-repeating random number within this range, one number at a time (possibly button click, not sure yet - I'll tackle that later). Once all available numbers are used, I want it to return a -1. I cannot move on until I get this tested functionally. I am trying to make use of a binary array to keep track of used numbers by index. Here is what I have so far:

Any ideas?

Need some help please!

When I boot up my computer it doesn't launch all the startup applications for a couple minutes. Then windows errors pop up saying [random number].exe has stopped working. After a good 10 or more of these messages popup, it asks for access to edit the registry (I denied it). I have Vista Home Premium.

Ok, I think I may have solved the deleting windows part, what I did first was, go into the actual windows folder and delete all files...ahaha..then I read somewhere to..right click "my computer" > "manage" > "disk management" and from there I deleted the partition (forced it) that had the extra windows installation, after that I made a new partition, right clicked and format, now it is formatting, will update when it is done and whether or not my computer still does random reboots.

I need some help. A computer that belongs to a friend of mine randomly reboots when it is being used. I installed anti-virus software to see if it was malicious software causing the problem. I was able to remove quite a bit of viruses/trojans/spyware but it still reboots at random times. I don't know what is causing this and I was hoping that someone here could help.

I'm getting random reboots while playing a new game in beta. I used to get these same reboots during Everquest 2 play, but they stopped.

1. I see nothing that jumps out in the event viewer.
2. My cpu runs no hotter then 45c.
3. I ran mem tests on my ram over nite with no errors.
4. I cant get my pc to write to my .dmp file. I have it set up under system properties correctly.
Is there a service that needs to be on? I shut down lots of services for gaming.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Tray

Hi and welcome to Techspot!!

First, check out this thread HERE, and tell us your system's PSU (power supply) specs, like make & model, wattage, and amperage on the +12V rail. Check the PSU's label, that info should be there.

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy
2. Run the memtest for two complete passes each pass consisting of 8 to 10 tests.
As ram is 8GB and presuming that is either 2 x 4GB or 4 x 2GB I would if 2 x 4GB test each stick ONE at a time before running memtest - it will be far quicker in establishing if one of the two is faulty
3. I do not think it is a heat issue but check the case first
4. Run a chkdsk/ r on the system drive
check the event log on windows logs, application log - search using find on right pane under search term
wininit
Post the log if you wish using copy right pane as text and paste to reply
check for bad sectors
5. When you say no minidumps - does it BSOD and if so are dumps configured and set for minidump
6. When you say you formatted - was that then a clean install of 7.
7. Looking at the errors I am going with hard drive I think rather than ram
8. see screenshot for memtest please, as you can see test 4 at 78% on 41% of that pass

Hello..

Helping my mom out with her system. It has begun randomly rebooting itself while she's working on it. No warning boxes or anything pop up, just -flash- and you're at the BIOS splash screen and restarting.

Ive gone through and ensured her video drivers are up-to-date, that she's malware free and the like.. but the problem persists.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated..

SF tool results attached.

Thank you,

A:Random reboots, once a day or two.

Hi nopk. You are having all stop 0x124 BSODs, which is supposed to be hardware error.

It appears that the computer is somehow old. Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator
Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

You have one BIOS Update to apply. Get Version 2302 dated 2011.03.18 from http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A...rt_Download_30.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

Hi everyone.

I've got a PC that was recently built, running XP SP3, when it suddenly started random reboots. I've already checked the hard drive with the O/S for errors and it came out clean. I've also scanned the PC with NOD32 but didn't show any malware. I don't get a blue screen with the reboots, just the message 'windows has recovered from a serious error'. I'm not sure if it's hardware or software related. I've attached 4 of the latest dump files for anyone that can read them.

Thanks for any replies.

Hi.

I bought a new computer a few months ago, and it randomly reboots itself for no particular reason and without any detectable pattern. It's happened when playing music, using IRC, using Firefox, during file transfers and even when it's not running anything.
Recently, I caught a glimpse of a blue screen before it rebooted, so I turned off the Automatic Reboot on System Failure selection in My Computer.
The error code it showed went something like this:

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8054C234, 0x1391539C8, 0x00000000)

So, does anyone know what it means?

Thanks in advance.

A:XP Random Reboots

Usually 8E errors are down to one of four things:

1. Incompatible device driver
2. Incompatible software
3. Config issues with the memory, HDD or BI/OS
4. Hard disk damage or failure

I've put them there in order of likelihood, however, even though you state "It's happened... ...even when it's not running anything", it could still be something running in the background, or a quick-start monitor in your System Tray.

I'd start by examining any recent device driver installs, and perhaps considering rolling back, or, if there haven't been any, then look at updating your motherboard chipset drivers, as well as your video and audio card drivers. Then test by closing software running in the background (especially stuff in the System Tray). Next I'd be looking at reseating the RAM, and checking in the BI/OS to make sure it's running at the recommended timings. A thorough ScanDisk might not go amiss too, to give you an idea of any issues that might be occurring there.

Oh i forgot to add, when i added the new heat sink it hasn't change the temps of the cpu.

Hi,

when you fitted your new heatsink & fan, did you apply a thin layer of thermal paste between the heatsink & cpu?

the continual restarting until if finally boots could be the power supply
to check a driver not loading properly, gointo msconfig/startup
untick everything and reboot
if it starts normally, retick on at a time rebooting each time until you find the offender
once found check for any updates and then do a reinstall from safe mode
