I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I found this quaint sounding entry in Device Manager (among network adapters) with driver dated 2006. Recommended update online search found one update but with a red lettered warning that I should not install it. So I cancelled.

What is this device? And do I need it?

A:Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter....???

Its purpose is to create a mobile hotspot using your Wireless NIC. For example, you have a 4G/3G USB device that lets you get internet access or you have a LAN (Ethernet) connection and you want to share the internet from your USB stick or LAN by making your laptop as a portable hotspot. You use the "Wireless Hosted Network" feature built-in to Windows to configure the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" to host a portable hotspot on your laptop. You then configure your 3G/4G connection to share the internet to "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter"

Now any device can connect to your laptop (portable hotspot) and get internet access.

hi there guys,

Win 7 Ultimate 64bit...

i would like to know why the Wireless Connection gets weird numbers, i believe it has a reference with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter....

i mean, device manager it says #7 and #8 but from the task manager it says #8 and #9...

not a massive annoyance but what if i wanted to rename them to 1 and 2? it would make me happier..

please see attached screen caps. PC works great, i can totally live with it, but well, just to have things "the right way", if is easy i wouldnt mind to fix it...

thanks
Gab

A:Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #8 or #9??

If you are familiar with regedit, open it and go to key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}\Descriptions

where xxxx is, I think, a system-specific CLSID number. You will find the names of the network interfaces there, with all the ###s. You can edit them there by clicking modify.

I recently found this in my network connections and I'm curious to what it is used for...

Anyone have an idea?

A:Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

It creates a virtual wireless card, making windows think that instead of one, you have two or more cards installed on your system. Keep in mind though, that the maximum bandwidth of your wireless card will be splitt when using this. It lets you connect to more then one wireless network at a time. For instance, an Ad-Hoc network and an Access Point at the same time. An access point and a wireless printer at the same time.

Hello,

I have been using my desktop for about 3 months now and suddenly within the last week a new connection appeared in my control panel described as "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". Normally I wouldn't care about a benign excess connection, but I suspect it is the reason the network connection icon in my taskbar shows that I am disconnected, despite having access to the internet:

When I click "uninstall" in the properties menu the connection is still there when the computer reboots. I know that it can be used as a virtual hotspot but I currently have no use for this as I have a non-mobile desktop and a wireless router already. If anyone knows of a better use for this or how to disable it so that it no longer interferes with my taskbar icon (simply disabling the connection doesn't work ) it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

A:How to uninstall Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

You can turn off the virtual WiFi service by running the following commands in an elevated command prompt. This should get rid of the connection on the adaptor page as well.

no quotes> "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" hit enter after, then use this command "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow" hit enter again.

hi all is this the way to disable Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter?
in cmd as admin "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" no quotes. then stop the service by typing "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow" also no quotes

and if you want to turn it back on netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ? then netsh wlan start hostednetwork (without the question mark!)

Months ago I found second microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter in my Network adapters. I don't know how it appears (hotfix, new driver???).
This week I reinstalled my laptop and microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter is gone. I try everything to get it back: new drivers from Dell, new drivers from Microsoft, Windows Update with all of updates etc. Nothing helped.
I use Windows 7 Ultimate x64, laptop is Dell Vostro 1700, physical WiFi is Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini Card.
How can I get back my microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter??

A:Missing Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

As far as I understand it's "native" to Windows 7.

You may just need to "enable" it in network adapter settings.

I recently installed an internet sharing program which utilizes the connected wireless internet and shares it within the same wireless card.

After installing the program, I noticed that Wifi Miniport adapter had been installed. I had this driver prior to my system reset but i had constant problems with it.

I have the same problems again and apparently, the program needs wifi miniport adapter to be working properly to work itself.
It has an error (a yellow triangle an with exclamation on it) and that code number is 10, (The device cannot start)

On the program's website, it recommended to just disable and reenable and then the exclamation will go away. But it didn't. I tried updating the driver, and windows update found a driver (unsigned though) but it cannot install the driver because the device cannot start.

So it doesn't update because of its original error. (it cannot start)

Any suggestions on getting Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter properly working?

First off any external package that purports to add access point functionality to Windows 7 is quackery pure and simple. It's a built-in feature and always has been. Uninstall the rogue software, report it's name here and destroy the miniport it created from an elevated command prompt thusly:

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

Now set the wlan hostednetwork SSID and WPA2-PSK/AES passphrase or key and start the wlan hostednetwork thusly:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<my_ssid> key=<my_key>
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
netsh wlan show hostednetwork

Pitfalls:

1) ad hoc networking MUST be disabled on the wireless adapter
2) a Hosted Network capable wireless adapter is installed in the local computer. The driver for the wireless adapter must implement the wireless LAN device driver model defined by Microsoft for use on Windows 7. To receive the Windows 7 logo, a wireless driver must implement the wireless Hosted Network feature.
3) network connection sharing for use by other computers and devices requires the use of Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).

I'm trying to print wireless from my laptop to my Canon printer, but it say the printer is offline.  When I go into my drivers, it says there is an issue with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Adapter #2.  Also, I'm getting a message in my Network Connections under my LAN that the network cable is unplugged.  Are these things related?  We had to replace our modem because we were getting spotty wireless connection.  We did some troubleshooting with the CenturyLink tech, but got everything plugged back in properly, and now with the new modem, our wireless devices are working better than ever.  Other than this printer issue.  Any thoughts?  It's driving me crazy!

How do I permanantly remove this pos from my laptop? It's giving me errors, when I hit the wireless button (to enable/disable) on the laptop half the time it disables the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, not my laptops wireless, I can't connect to
APs properly with it running, takes 5 or 6 tries of disabling everything and reenabling.

Didnt have a single issue until this was installed secretly on my machine.

MS post proper solution to PERMANANTLY remove this useless device that just breaks everything.

A:Uninstall Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Permanantly

I finally found out how to uninstall the microsoft wifi miniport adapter its so easy all you do is go to the command prompt as a admin and type this "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" with no quotes.
than type this "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow"  also no quotes. at first i thought this was disabling it same as right clicking and disable but actually it disables the service and the microsoft
wifi miniport is gone. for some reason its mode gets set to allow instated of disallow  and when you uninstall it it reappears and messes up the networking, example, printers, wifi routers, etc.
theres no way to uninstall it because it part of windows 7 for sharing wifi. IT WORKS TRY IT.
its not a bug in windows 7. wow

Just reinstall your Windows 7 approved wireless drivers and the Virtual mini port adaptor will reinstall with the drivers automatically.

The drivers do need to be Windows 7 approved in order to have the Virtual mini port adaptor which is only used to set up a hosted wireless network.

Using Windows 7, my wireless works great in the vicinity of the router, but slows down and will not load some sites when 30+ feet away from the router. The signal strength is excellent. Any ideas?

A:Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Okay you may need to check around your router to first see if there are any mirrors really close. These can deflect the wireless rays therefore decreasing signal strength.

Your second option if this fails, is too purchase a WIFI-Repeater or booster.

I have added a webpage below and if you wish too purchase any of these simply google them (Maybe amazon, ebay etc.).

A:Virtual Wifi Miniport, dhcp question.

You should be able to turn on DHCP the same way that you can on a regular NIC. Go to the Network and Sharing Center, then look left to "Change Adaptor Settings" and click that, highlight and right click the Virtual adaptor and choose properties, then right click TCP/IPv4, choose properties again, make sure that the upper dot is set to "Obtain an IP address Automatically, same for DNS.

Hi guys,

I'm pulling my hair out on this one; hopefully you can help me. I'm trying to create a virtual wifi AP using the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter and the netsh wlan command line context, but it's giving me a headache.

"netsh wlan show drivers" in the command line includes the output line "Hosted network supported: Yes" so my wireless card should be supported, correct? I can setup the hostednetwork fine with "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=blah key=blah" but when I try to start it with "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" I get the following output:

"The hosted network couldn't be started. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation."
My network adapter is a Rosewill RNX-N1 which contains a Ralink 2870 chipset (that chipset has been confirmed to support hostednetwork).

Any suggestions?

A:Errors with starting Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter

I can't say what the problem might be but the link below shows two methods for setting up a hosted wireless network. You can also try the link for connectify software which is just a user interface that makes it easier for some people.

It's important to note that a hosted wireless network is made to share a wireless connection with other wireless devices.

The hosted wireless network isn't made to share out through an Ethernet connection in any way shape or form, though it may be possible to do so you may end up with an unreliable network and there are no standard tutorials to set that up.

These were Related to athr.sys Atheros Extensible Wireless LAN device driver. Obviously a conflict between the two. I would re-install using newest version available.

A:Unable to update driver for Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

I would advise right clicking on the device that has the excalamation point and choosing "Uninstall", then select the check box to delete the driver software as well. Reboot and see if Windows detects and tries to install the software again, if not you can:
1) Go the the manufactuers website to get the drvier
2) Use the driver CD - if you got one for that device

NOTE - If this is for your wifi adapter, you will need to connect your computer to the router with an ethernet cable to get the driver from the web.

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7 and am 'a newbie.'
I have followed the directions on setting up the Virtual Wifi but have an error. Is there anyway to erase what I have done and start all over again?
Keeping in mind: will starting over reset the text box so it is editable?

Thank you,

A:Virtual Wifi Adaptor issue

Your LAN connection may be disabling the Wireless, hence the problem. Open Wireless Network Connection (the one on the right) and go into Properties - Configure - Advanced - see any options that would disable Wireless when LAN is connected.

Hello @Anil1791?, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I read your post about the WiFi issue, and wanted to help! Please review the following document, as it may help to resolve the issue for you:HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 10) You can also try using the Windows Update, to check for drivers that will work with Windows 10.  You can check this site as well: HP Products - Where Do I Find Windows 10 Drivers and Software for My Model? If you are having trouble installing the drivers, you can use the tool at the following site: Open the Windows Update troubleshooter It is possible that drivers may not be available for your product.  If that is the case, or the drivers you found are not working, try using the solutions on this site as a workaround, and let me know how it goes: How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10  If you are still having trouble, try using the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings: HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10 Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Have a great day!

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with a recent problem I ran into. My wifi router broke down and I thought as a workaround, use my laptop as a temporary wifi hotspot until I can purchase a new one. I was able to share my LAN connection but cannot pass the Internet access thru my ad-hoc. I found out that I need to enable the MS Virtual Wifi Miniport to be able to accomplish that. The BSOD happened right after enabling that adapter. I tried rebooting into safe mode where I disabled both my wifi adapter and the miniport. Re-installed the wifi adapter but BSOD recurred when I try to enable the miniport. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I have posted an updated file. Apparently, the process took some time and not all files were present upon posting. My bad.

but I have a persistent problem that involved multiple installs in device mgr/network adapters/ of "mcafee firewall network filter miniport #34, #35, etc" ...there are dozens of them listed.

Every time you boot the pc, another install window appears.

I had this problem in the past and was solved when someone sent me a doc of instructions that involved editing registry.

I cannot find the doc and am searching for anyone who can help me.

Hi there again I'm having an issue with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Adapter Since I had to uninstall Connectify it prevented my computer from entering standby or hibernation I DHCP Virtual WiFi: Problems Microsoft started to use the Virtual WiFi Function manually netsh wlan start hostednetwork It works absolutely wonderful with Windows clients it works well with Windows XP clients slightly slower but I guess that's normal but it fails for my iPhone and other Apple mobile devices I have no idea why but I know that Connectify had the same issue and fixed it with version The iPhone connects to the network showing a checkmark next to the network's name but doesn't show the WiFi-Icon and I cannot access the internet or local ressources This seems to be Microsoft Virtual WiFi: DHCP Problems a DHCP problem as manually setting an IP address setting the Subnet to and entering my laptop's IP-address as the Router and DNS server solves the problem at least sometimes it's not that reliable But as I'm a perfectionist and want others to be able to use my network I really would like to see DHCP working there Is there anything that I could do to fix this problem Thank you so much for your help With kind regards Felix Freiberger

I, personally, don't think this is a bad thing. They are probably needed by a piece of software you use or your wifi driver. Just to make sure, run a virus scan with Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - CNET Download.com
When it comes up with the message about the trial, click decline.

Everyone's had the problem of wanting to disable the wifi miniport, or enable it to share wifi.

I have a different problem. I would like to change which wireless device the wifi miniport uses, as the external USB wireless adapter I was using died. I cannot see the wifi miniport adapter without that device attached, it seems. I don't even know if the wifi adapter even as options to select which wireless card to use even if I could get it to appear.

Is there a way to do this without having to resort to reinstalling Windows 7?

I am fairly familiar with netsh. No command line option seems to be available to switch network adapters for the wifi miniport.

It also appears that it will simply not switch to the only wireless network adapter detected, and I know it will host a virtual wifi network, I've done ICS/AdHoc before.

The microsoft virtual miniport adapter is not required for internet access. it can be disabled.

If you have no internet access please post an ipconfig /all for us to review.

Hi everyone!

I have encountered the following problem with internet sharing: after using virtual miniport adapter to share my internet connection, when I want to shut down the pc, it won't. Just a BSOD.

When the connection is not shared, it works fine, no BSOD. But I need to share my connection to my girlfriends tablet.

I am connected to a free hotspot via a TP-Link TL-Wn7200ND ver 1.0 adapter and I have shared this connection using the Microsoft virtual miniport adapter. Everything works fine, till the moment I try to shut down the laptop. The system tries to shut down, but after 6 or 7 minutes it restars itself and get the message that an error occurred.

As requested, I attach the result of the sf diagnostic tool.

I don't know much about computers but from everything Ive read you can uninstall or go to cmd and enter codes to get this adapter to stop working.  I went to device manager and disabled it.  When I go to system information, components, network
and look at my adapters it is enabled.  I started cmd, followed instructions here and disabled it.  After reboot I couldn't connect to the internet.  It said correct driver not installed.  I thought you could connect to the network from
the laptop without this adapter.  Am I misunderstanding something?  Can someone please help?  Like I said, I know nothing about computers.  I just want to connect to our network and internet without using this.

Hey so at my apartment complex all I have is wifi available, there seems to be a ethernet port on the wall downstairs but I dont think it works. I was thinking of getting a Wifi to Ethernet adapter but I do not know if that actually will make it so my connection is stable and doesnt get affected by people streaming etc. I notice that it says it would pick up wifi and then I could use my ethernet to connect it to my computer. I don't really understand how all this works. I would like some help figuring out what to do. I can always try that port. or is there something I can plug into that port that would give me a stable connection? I'm running out of ideas. Anything helps. Thanks!

A:I only have wifi available at my apartment. will using a wifi to ethernet adaptor help?

you can do that with some devices
BUT I do not think it will make any difference to your issues , as its still using the wireless signal

it will get affected by people streaming

in the LAN connection , have you tried plugging a cable into a laptop ?

Peter, lets slow down and think before spending money. If you reinstalled several times and still have problems, it would be my guess that the problem is with the computer and not the OS. See if this test shows anything.

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. This device is just a virtual device and it should not affect connecting the wireless network with the physical wireless adapter... Go to the Device Manager Click on Network Adapters to check which one you have as there are two on the HP Website .. Then download the one you need ..

If you right click it in device manager it should give you an uninstall option, uninstall and on reboot it should try to pick it up again. You may need to reinstall or update drivers from manufacturer website.

I need to move my windows 10 desktop away from the router and need to use an USB WiFi adaptor to connect to the internet. I have an older Belkin F5D8053 but It wont download the drivers. Win10 recognises it but cant set it up. The latest Drivers on the Belkin Web Site are the same as I have.

First, Is there a way around this to get it working?

Second, If not can anyone recommend a USB Wifi Adapter that does work with Win10

Thanks

A:USB WiFi adaptor

Ah yes, the famous Windows 10 USB WIFI adaptor driver issue. You could try unzipping the drivers and from device manager selecting "have disk" and pointing to the inf file. But I have my doubts for success from posts like this:

F5D8053N - Windows 10 - Belkin Community

I currently have a desktop MB that has wifi on the chip and this solved my USB wifi problems once and for all. You can check this thread when I had a similar problem (post 15).
Solved USB Wi-Fi adapter not showing on tray - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums

The D Link DWA-182 firmware C worked for me in Windows 10. You have to make sure you have the revision C model (not A). However, even with that there were issues. Windows 10 recognized it as the realtek (chip) drivers. To get the D link drivers showing up (and working) in Windows 10 I had to extract the drivers and point to them in device manager. Then they installed and I didn't have disconnect issues after that (well, most of the time).

You could try this D Link one but make sure your store has a return policy just in case. Otherwise I would suggest a search on all the adaptor manufacturers (Asus, etc) to see if their model actually has a Windows 10 driver to download. If they don't, good possibility there will be an issue.

Ok so I want to hook my Toshiba laptop to the TV so I can do whatever with it in the living room.

Now there are two ways I can see one is a HDMI cable - bit messy and I really don't like having cables draped across the floor etc
The other I saw a You Tube clip on a plug in box for the TV so that I can use the laptop to the TV. However this fellow said it was "a box" - well not being Einstein or a clairvoyant I have no idea what these devices are called and hunting through my local suppliers listings I cannot find what this device is so can someone please tell me what exactly is it called??

The only concern is security of course so will my laptop signal be picked up by others close by if so I am not real sure about using this method.

I've been looking at wifi adaptors, and the usb type is a lot cheaper. However, most of them seem to be made for laptops. Is there a usb wifi adaptor for a desktop computer? If so, what's a good recommendation for one? Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Can someone explain to me the diff between a TNC and SMA connector in a wifi antenna? A company has asked that I change out all of their wifi access points with new linksys AP's they purchased. The current AP's have a antenna connected with a cable. The cable looks similar to a standard COAX cable, but smaller. The connector is also smaller.

When I remove the standard antenna from the linksys, the plug is too large for the current cable.

I belive that I need a TNC to SMA adaptor, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know? Also, can the connectors be purchased at a hardware/electronics store, or is online the best place?

A:Wifi Antenna (TNC vs SMA Adaptor)

This is the TNC connector.

Here's the SMA Connector.

Note the subsection for the SMA specification that specifies the Reverse SMA, which is commonly used for most WiFi equipment antennas.

Hi,

computer has some issues with the wifi adaptor. If i install it, and set windows to control it, at some point, after "connecting" for >5 mins, it reports: "Connected"... kinda ridiculous, because if i punch in ipconfig /all in the console, it does not show this adaptor's IP settings at all. If I change the IP setting thourgh the properties window, it prompts me to reboot. After the reboot, the settings are not applied!

However, in the device manager, it shows the device and it says it's working fine.

USB driverupdate did not solve the problem, I can't find a bios update any more... any better ideas? PLEASE?

A:WiFi Adaptor problems with Windows 8.1

Intel 4965AGN is not supported in Windows 8. I have the same issue, except my connectivity is fine but I get random BSOD's involving 'netwlv64.sys'. If you search Google for 'netwlv64.sys windows 8' you'll find tons of people with the same issue. In my case, it's even worse now in 8.1 than it was in Win 8. I've read that some people have had success installing the Vista driver, but also that this creates other (reliability) issues. Your best bet is simply to purchase a new wifi card. I ordered an atheros card from eBay a couple of weeks ago, but haven't received it yet. Note that if you do purchase a new, non Lenovo approved, wifi card, you will first have to install the Middleton BIOS to remove the "Whitelist".

A:HP Stream 11 Wifi adaptor stopped working?

* My computer installed some updates a few hours earlier, not sure if this has caused the problem? but as I said it was working fine since then. The operating system (that came with it) is Windows bing 8.1I did not update to windows 10 yet.

Alright so I have a laptop however I am unable to use its current wifi card for my wifi reciever booster I am making. So I needed a usb connector. I got the RNX-EasyN1. When I first got it I installed the driver off the disk. However I was still unable to get the device to detect any networks or for that matter enable itself in the network connections screen. So I went to their site and got the latest driver. Still did not work. I spent a few hours searching google, reinstalling restarting, and in general doing anything that seemed like the normal procedure when I cant get something to work. Yet here I sit with a wireless adaptor that every one else on google says works perfectly fine, and it wont work for me. Help please.

A:RNX-EasyN1 Wifi Adaptor wont work.

you can try to manually put the network info in.

or it sounds like you got a defective card you may want to return it and get a new one
