Computer Build Check

Q: Computer Build Check

I think I've checked correctly if the power will be enough and I have plenty of space to fit everything.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Were you wanting all those items? Seemed to be some redundancies and over-kill. Regardless though, 10K has me drooling.

Hey, I am wanting to make my first gaming computer and despite all my research and back checking, I still feel like something may be wrong, not to mention if possible I would like to save a bit more money since I am just above my budget of about $500. Below is a link to my build.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/prince/saved/4Fbc

I am hoping to play mainly games like WoW, Arche Age, and mmos like that. Also I may occasionally play something more demanding like Skyrim or something. Any tips, and if possible money saves, let me know.
Thank You!!

Probably better to get rid of the GPU and just go with an AMD APU. Like A10-5800K

Hi, this is my first post. I have been trying to put together a computer, bought all the parts, put it all together, but when I connect it to a monitor it says "check connection." I cannot reach the BIOS screen at all...I have tried everything suggested, unplugging the RAM and just putting 1 stick in, unplugging the video card and putting it back, even tried using a different monitor. I have checked my connections over and over and can't find out what's wrong. All parts were bought brand new on Newegg. This is the first computer that I have built so I'm new..just wanted to see if I can get any help. Thanks in advance..

Details of my build:
Asus p5w DH deluxe motherboard
Intel quad core q6600 2.40ghz
Corsair Dominator 4gb DDR2 RAM (4 single)
Rosewill 550w power supply
Phillips 20x DVD+-
Seagate 500gb Harddrive

I do some video editing/converting.

Here's what I'm looking at. I need compatability issues checked, if anyone has other suggestions for a less than $400 build, I'm all ears.

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

A:Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

It won't activate and you will end up in Safe Mode permanently. One machne = one license. You need to buy another full version. But you can do it if you don't use 7 on the old machine. You will just have to activate by phone and explain. Then if you go online with both, one will deactivate and go to Safe Mode.

Good on compatibility. Good on RAM selection. Nice case/PS.
Stock CPU cooler is fine unless you plan on overclocking or live in a relatively hot environment - IMO. However, it is just a stock fan and aesthetically lacking.

EDIT: I would recommend this HDD over your current selection due to the 6Gb/s SATA ports on the mobo.

I'll use it primarily for gaming and music production, but for now, let's stick to the gaming part.

CASE: Cooler Master HAF 922
MOBO: ASUS M4A89GTD
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 970
GPU: GeForce GTX 560 Ti
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5
Monitor: ASUS VH197D Black 18.5"
Keyboard: Microsoft SIDEWINDER X4

I already have a decent mouse that I use with my lappy.

Are these compatible?
I checked already, and everything seemed to be in place, but I'm also a bit of a n00b, so I could be way off here.
And lastly, any recommendations/part swaps for a cheaper build while also maintaining a comparable level of power?

A:Compatibility check/recommendations for my first build, anyone?

That PSU is quite a bit of overkill, unless you're considering multiple video cards in the future.

An 18.5" monitor would make me so very, very unhappy. I had two 19" wide screens and got rid of them both almost immediately. 22" is about the sweet spot for the 1680 x 1050 computer 16:10 standard, and you should bump up to 23" if you're going to get a 1920 x 1080P 16:9 ratio panel. There just isn't enough screen height in the smaller panels.

I tried plugging a desktop mouse into my lappy and it didn't work. Don't know if the reverse is true. I didn't try very hard though. Try it first.

You should have enough posts to link your parts choices. Being able to click to the product pages helps us a bunch.

Hey Guys

I'm planning on building a PC for sometime now. Ive based in on a smaller budget and have pieced these parts together. I was wondering what PSU I should buy for the parts I plan to use.

Here is a list of the parts - http://www.ebuyer.com/lists/list/119001

For a PSU i'd like to buy one with some headroom so i can add a graphics card and possibly a SDD.

Also any suggestions on how i could improve on the set-up would be great too.

Thanks All - Hope You've have a good holidays

It should be more than adequate to power any system with a Radeon HD 7770 graphics card.

A:First build, can someone double check parts and or suggestions?

for those parts above a 650w power supply will be ample but i would firstly advice more then one stick of memory so it will be faster, if you buy 2 (or 4 or 8 ect) sticks of memory it will run in dual mode and if you buy 3 (or 6) it will run in tripple channel
Your graphics card isn't crossfire, it only says crossfire ready so when you buy a second one it will work in crossfire.

I would advice looking at intel socket 1155 instead of amd

Hi,

I just want to surf the net. No high-speed where I live, just dial-up and I do not game. I have no intentions of over-clocking the system. Would the following be a good system to build?

case - Rosewill TU155 (no SATA - whatever that is???)
processor - E2140 Allendale 1.6 GHz - LGA-775 socket - dual core
OS - XP
motherboard - MSI G31M-F
ram - crucial - 2x240 pin - DDR2 800
HD - ATA100 - WD400JB

Will I need a video card or will one be on the MB? Also, will the MB have a modem for dial-up? What would be a good CD or DVD burner?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Personally I wouldn't blow money on an i7-980 1366 based system. Enthusiast level Sandy Bridge products are scheduled before the end of the year and AMD Bulldozer CPUs should be competitive as well, even the 1155 socket Sandy bridge systems are giving very similar performance to that Gulftown processor for a lot less money. I'd rather put the money into better video cards. Also 24Gb of ram is excessive. 8-16Gb is as much as I'd recommend for gaming. If you have other planned uses for the machine then you might have reason to put that much ram in it, otherwise cut back on the ram to at least 16Gb and invest the money into an SSD drive for OS and current games to be stored on. That improves boot speed and loading times for games. Don't think there should be a problem with the H50 in that case. As long as there is clearance between the rear exhaust fan mounting position and the CPU positioning for the radiator and fan to fit then you are good to go.

Hey everyone,

I'm on a new build and I keep experiencing random BSODs. There doesn't seem to be any single event that triggers them. They've happened playing a game, exiting a game, watching a video, browsing windows, doing nothing, etc.

I've tried re-seating my memory, video card, etc. as well as double-checking all cords and plugs. This didn't seem to help.

Any other information that you need to know I would be happy to provide.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

There is an old saying--no good deed goes unpunished I offered to build a computer for a friend who is an architect because she used AutoCad and had special needs So anyway I specked it out checked with the gurus here and then changed the motherboard I forgot to go back and change the RAM and the Processor So anyway I m building this thing and I go to put the processor in the MOBO and it doesn t fit--so I look at the processor instructions and AMD Athlon X and the instructions from AMD quot seem quot to indicate that the processor works with a MOBO but as it turns build and Warning: a check every When it puter, thing bulding twice ASAP!!! out the Warning: When bulding a puter, check every thing twice and build it ASAP!!! instructions are generic Anyway I m trying to get this thing in and it just won t fit something Mulder is intimately familiar with I finally checked online and realized my error but I must have tried for or minutes to get it in So then I figure I ll put the rest of the puter together--last thing I put in was the RAM--found our I ordered the wrong kind instead of but that was by accident Tried to get that in for a few minutes because it looked like the notches fit at least in the bad light I was using at the time So fortunately even though NewEgg has a day return for processors and I was past days because I oredered this stuff before I went on vacation and didn t put it together until I got back I was able to convince them to take it back But I still paid a dollar restocking charge for the RAM and Processor plus the extra shipping costs both ways I won t allow the friend to pay for the mistake and she shouldn t Point is other suppliers may not be as easy to work with as NewEgg and the only reason they took back the Processor is because I ve bought so much stuff from them over the years I thought I was going to have to sell it on E-Bay and I would have probably only got about half its value plus the hassle of selling it Hopefully since saves someone else from a financial shot in the pants nbsp

Hello! Would appreciate any help with this one.

working on a new build and fresh install of Windows 10. I've installed all Windows updates and drivers for the hardware. However, I'm experiencing frequent BSODs while idle or surfing online. The system also freezes completely if it sits idle for a while and I am forced to hard reset it.

I've run memtest, and cmd commands sfc scannow, dism, and chkdsk; no errors were found. Event Viewer doesn't show any errors besides the BSOD alerts.

Hey people, sorry if the title is not very detailed or so, what I am having trouble with is my Download speed and browser speed
Little backstory:
I created a new build recently (tuesday) and i've been spending every night since then for hours on end trying to fix this issue, every other computer in my house downloads things around 700kbps + where as my new build (very high end) is getting 20kbps and below... I am on wireless connection, I am operating on windows 7 64 bit
comment below if you can offer some help and advice if possible
I can provide additional information if required to go into depth about certain parts of the issue
Thankyou!

Hello, I didn't know where to post this topic so I just did it here.

OK I want to build my own computer, but the thing is I don't know how, and I don't know what I need to build a good computer I am willing to spend up 1300 dollars on this computer. And I know there are sites out there that do that for you, but I am not sure if they are trustworthy, I remember I ordered an Alien ware like 2 weeks ago, and it froze like in the first hour I had it turned on, and when I had it fixed it froze the next day. So can anybody help me.

Thanks

A:how do I build my own computer

You need a case, CPU, motherboard, PSU, video card, RAM, a hard disk drive, an optical drive and maybe peripherals like a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

For any build suggestions, please post your intended use for the computer, budget, location, whether or not you're willing to buy online and what components you need.

1- pricewatch

2-newegg

But I tried in pricewatch I think there is not possible for me to buy because i live in Scandinavia countries or maybe i do mistake . is just for USA or also for Europe?
please if anybody has experience ( from Europe) and bought something from these 2 sites share with us of good and bad advantages.

please inform me in both websites .

thx

A:To build the computer

dont you have any sites in your country - if the equipment is faulty may be a lot less hassel

also you may have to pay import tax or duty on anything from abroad - have a search and see if you are liable .
I only know about UK - and we dont have import duty but we do ave a 17.5% VAT tax that will be applied

Get a power supply not one that comes with the case

A good power supply is one of the most things overlooked on a computer

Hard Drive I go with the Maxtor Dimond max 10 sata it the top one in the 7200 rpm range

The beeping sound is probably an error code telling you something is wrong. The meaning of the beeps will vary depending on your BIOS. See the following article for more information:Computer POST / beep codes

I am interested in getting a new computer primarily for video editing, and lately I've been reading a great deal about building a computer from scratch and figured it'd be fun and a great way to save some $$.

I was wondering if I could get some pointers on what I'll need, what I'll want, and what to avoid.

And hey, since going to Toys 'r' Us for a friend's birthday present was always nearly as fun as going for yourself--if somebody wanted to pick me out a discount dream machine on newegg I'd be much abliged!

Thanks in advance.

I am a big gamer and before i head off to college I was curious as to whether I should build a computer or buy one from Dell. Isn't going to be a lot more expensive if i build it from scratch? WIll the extra power in the computer be worth it? What about compatibility reasons? Please answer whatever you can, thanks....

A:Buy computer or build one?

I'd suggest build. You can get high quality parts, and ensure upgradability in the future.
With Dell you might actually be able to find a similar powered machine to one you can be build to be cheaper, but it wouldn't be by much if at all.
Compatibility shouldn't be an issue a little research and everything will go smooth.
Also if you ever wanted to overclock after you've strained all the upgrades you can get out of your system (or are just looking for a "free" boost in power), a custom built one if you bought quality parts will overclock nicely. Dells probably won't.
Others can give you other opinions, but I think on this board you'll find most people will suggest building your own.

Hello. I read over link590o's thread, and he was able to get an impressive list of parts for pretty much under 600$...Now, I'm not saying I would be able to even think about building this (whether or not I'll still be working from now to August is still uncertain), but I was wondering...What kind of system could you build for around 450-500$(Cost of Windows XP Home SP2 (100$ on Newegg) already deducted)? Again, since this is tentative, I could have a second job and be able to get some of these parts, and possibly raise the amount I can spend...Any and all suggestions are appreciated...

Had another disaster, first time using a 775 chip. My fan for the old 478 obviously isn't going to fit Imagine that

I just happened to have the good luck of being given this fan:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1116581

On past builds, when there has been the grey "matter" attached to the fan, I usually soak it off and reapply thermal paste, however, this one is a copper bottom, and I'm wondering if I should give it a go with what is there, or should I still scrape it off and go the thermal paste route?
Edited for typo only.

The BIOS is set to boot from CD first then the HARD DRIVE. After many exhausting hours of not getting it to work i pulled an IDE hard drive out of a working computer with XP on it and put it in the new compter.
Now i get the message NTLDR is missing. Then after pressing enter i get the BOOT DISK failure again. I have no idea on what to do now. Please help efore i loose my mind.

And will my Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium OEM version work with this build will I be able to install it and will microsoft let me do that.

A:New Computer Build

Ain't that a great price......

An E6600 giveaway it is! A 32 bit OS will only allow you address 4 GB of RAM. Big deal. To get to the 8 GB they're claiming you would need to use 2 GB DIMMs. At in excess of $200.00 each, nobody needs them, and almost nobody can afford them. As long as your OEM Vista is not registered with another machine you can certainly use it. I don't think you're allowed to transfer an OEM Windows from another machine, the motherboard it's borne with is the one it dies with.
I saw that price (yesterday)on the Conroe and my credit cards started smoking in my pocket. Have fun!

Update, as of last night Newegg had already sold out of the C2D E6600. That came as no surprise in view of the price. Oh Well, they'll get more.

A:Need help new computer build

Welcome to TSG...You're likely to have ongoing troubles if you installed Windows while the drive was in another machine.

You can try installing the VIA platform drivers available here.

If your board has the VIA onboard video chip, its driver may also have installed with Windows. Try disabling onboard video in the BIOS, then install this driver for your nVidia card.

Tell us how it goes...

A:First computer build

Holy smokes.

Possibly, no one has commented because 1. people want to hear what you are aiming for - a gaming PC? CAD/CAM? Web-surfing? etc., and 2. you sure piled on a list of pricey items without any argument for why you need such pricey items when you can do nearly as well by sliding down the price range a lot, and 3. you have not said what size the SSD is - it might not be large enough to comfortably support operating system plus a few multi-player games.

A first-time build does not have to be the ultimate Win experience. Largely, builders work for a trade-off between cost and function. For your first build, you may want to build something that is straightforward, not too expensive, and can be upgraded in the future.

If money is no object, just get the most expensive of everything and enjoy. Just make sure everything is compatible.

I am not trying to be rude. Just kinda surprised by the price tags, and the lack of responses thus far.

That power supply isn't big enough for the 670. You need a power supply (500W min.) with +12 Volt current rating of 30 Amps (or more).

Everything looks good. I would get a different power supply, but that NewEgg Rosewill will likely be ok unless you are a big gamer.

I recently played medieval total war and got addicted. I want to play medieval 2 total war, but my computer system is really slow even on the lowest graphic settings. I have a 6 year old dell with 512 MB of Ram (I have more but it won't take any more than), Nvidia 5200 FX video card, and 173 MB hard drive (most it will allow).

I know a little about building a computer, but I am far behind in the latest motherboards, graphics cards… All I know is that AGP is going out and PCI is the way to go. Can some one please help me configure a nice gaming computer that I can play this game and possibly be able to upgrade later in case Total War 3 comes out. My budget is about $750, let me know if I can work with this.

Hey!
My brother is looking to get a new computer, and I have seen a lot on here about the "build your own". How difficult is it, do you have to wait around for a comptuter fair, & if not where is a good place to get the parts? My brother is pretty computer savy, and they would be sure to be happy to save money! Is there any soldering involved or just plugging in type stuff???
As always thanks!!! You guys are the best!!!

I need some help. I am trying to build a machine using my friends Compaq Presario motherboard, processor and case. I am trying to add my hard drive and cd drives to this machine, basically using the new one as a barebones kit. This seemed easy, but Isn't working right. When I booted up the system it recognized my drives, but when it went past the Compaq screen It just stopped and all I got was a flashing cursor. My friend had Win ME on this machine when he was using it and I am trying to us Win 2K. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Trying to Build A Computer!

Here is a list of things I made to do with a problem build. Follow the set of instructions under you assembled it and the system will not post.

What to do with a “Problem Build”

First are you getting the board to post [power on self test] If yes follow the first set of instructions

Board posts however there are lockups, bsod, cannot install windows

1) Since it posts, check your temps in the bios. It is very difficult to say what a “Normal” temp should be since each type of cpu [P4, Athlon, AMD64, etc] has a normal temp. What you should see in the bios is a stable temp of <55C. If the temp is much higher than that, you probably have the heatsink fan installed incorrectly.

2) If the temps are ok, pull all cards from the system except the video card. Disconnect any peripherals such as printer, scanner, usb hub, etc. Is it stable now? If so you have a problem with a piece of hardware or its driver.

3) Test the memory with a tester like memtest86. Just because you see a memory test during post means nothing. All that does is check to see if the memory is there. It does not check each memory address. Note this test is run from bootable media ie CD or floppy; there is no need for an operating system to be installed.

4) Power supply. A modern P4 or AMD64 needs a quality power supply. It is difficult to say what wattage you will need since this is dependant on many things; the number of fans, the number of hard drives you have installed, the type of video card you have installed, amount of ram, etc. A bare minimum would be in the neighborhood of 350W. The power supplies that come with many cases [however not all] are junk. Since modern systems make a very high demand on the 12V rail of the power supply, what you are looking for is something around 20+ amps on the 12V rail. Some good brands of power supplies are Antec, Enermax, Enlight, Sparkle, and some models of Coolmax. There are other quality units, however those are what I use in my builds.
You assembled the system, and it will not post
1) Remove EVERYTHING from the case
2) Set the motherboard on a non conductive surface. The motherboard box is perfect for this. .DO NOT PLACE THE MOTHERBOARD ON THE STATIC BAG! The outside of some of these can actually conduct electricity! We are going to try and assemble a running system outside of the case.
3) Install the CPU and heat sink.
4) Install the RAM (only install 1 stick for SDRAM, 2 for RDRAM)
5) Install the video card. Do make sure the card is FULLY seated.
6) Connect the monitor to the video card.
7) Connect the power supply to the motherboard.
8) Connect power to the power supply
9) Do NOT connect ANYTHING else. Make sure you have the power connector on the CPU fan connected.
10) Use a small screwdriver to momentarily short the power switch connector on the motherboard.

If all is well, it should power up and you should get a display. You now have found you have a mounting problem. The board is shorting to the case. If not, then you most likely have a faulty component. You will need to swap parts with known good units ie power supply, cpu, ram, video card.
How to mount a new board in a case

1) Remove the IO plate from the back of the case.
2) Place the board in the case and use something like a sharpie or a pencil to mark the case where you will need to install the standoffs.
3) Remove the board and install the standoffs.
4) Install the IO plate
5) Place the board on the standoffs and slide it into the IO plate. Secure it with the screws provided with the case.

Just a reminder do not buy cheap parts!!!
I have one rule.

Quality hardware and properly installed software do not lockup, bsod, reboot itself, etc

Gday, I am looking at building a new gaming computer (having it built for me) unfortunatly I havent kept up will all the latest tech specs, so I have no idea what are the best parts to add.
I have had a bit of a search on the net and have come up with the following parts.
•Intel Core i5 760 quad-core processor

•ASUS P7P55 LX motherboard

•Radeon 6870 video card

•4GB PC10600 DDR3 memory

•Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB hard disk drive
Is there anything here that is a bad idea?
I want a fast gaming computer that will keep up with the newest games and be relativly cheap.
Are there any parts that could be substituted for something better at a similar cost or cheaper?
