Thinkpad Battery Suddenly Stopped Working

Q: Thinkpad Battery Suddenly Stopped Working

I ve been having a strange problem with the battery for my Thinkpad laptop I noticed Battery Stopped Working Thinkpad Suddenly the other day that Thinkpad Battery Suddenly Stopped Working it wasn t charging when I plugged the AC adapter in Eventually it ran out completely and would not charge at all This happened very suddenly it was working fine a week ago If I have the battery installed and AC attached and hit the power button the system will start up for a few seconds and then shut down Sometimes it will randomly start AGAIN for another few seconds and then shut down The only way I can get the computer to run is with the battery removed and AC adapter attached If I start the computer up with the AC adapter attached and then insert the battery the computer immediately powers down I really want to get this problem resolved I m hoping that it s just the battery itself but it seems strange that it would stop working so suddenly From my experience laptop batteries tend to lose their power over time And even if the battery was no good shouldn t the computer still work as long as the AC line is connected I have no problem replacing the battery I m just not certain that this is the real issue It seems that the AC adapter works fine Is this likely just a battery problem or is it possible that the motherboard is damaged nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Dan and welcome to TSG.

I assume your Thinkpad's warranty has run out.

It could be a problem with the motherboard power circuitry but that would be expensive to fix.

As the charger looks ok the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to try a new battery.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Once I plugged in charger while my notebook was turned off.
It lighted Plug LED and Battery LED was blinking after 3 seconds.

I reinserted battery and it charged fine.
One day I was using my NB200 and it run out of charge, I plugged in and same thing happen but even after reinserting battery it won't start.

Plugging in it for long time doesn't heats up battery nor notebook. I can only start it without battery plugged in. Inserting battery shuts down PC after 1 seconds and LED of battery again blinks after 3 seconds.

What does it means? I tired putting battery in fridge because I read on internet it might fix but no luck.

Any idea how can I fix it.

A:Battery suddenly stopped working on NB200-10z

First of all you have to know that the notebook should run properly without the battery but with connected AC adaptor.
Even if the battery would be faulty or empty, the connected AC adaptor should supply power and you should be able to power up the notebook.

In case this isn?t possible, I assume an power supply electronic malfunction.

However, you could test the following workaround:
Try to power up and to boot the notebook without the battery.
Then go to device manager and uninstall the following entries under batteries:
- Microsoft composite battery
- Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery

Then reboot the notebook.
Power OFF again and insert the battery.
Power On the notebook and check if the unit would run properly.

Of course it would be also recommend testing the notebook in connection with another good and tested battery.

Hi. I was recently using my laptop, when I wiggled the power cable a bit and suddenly the laptop stopped charging. I have a bad feeling the battery has died or something. I tried using another power cable and that didnt fix it (so I dont think the cable is a problem).

Is there anything else I can try before resorting to buying a new battery?

So when I frist got my thinkpad the battery life would easily reach 10h and the notebook was cool and silent. Now suddenly it seems to be working constantly (as the laptop is really hot after 5min of starting) and the battery life is now around 3h. I have checked with autorun programms as well as with the task manager but I have yet to find a solution. Can it be that it's working in the background somehow and how can I shut this down?

I believe your system has the Intel HD Graphics, so  if that is the case, open up the Windows Control panel, and check for an Intel HD graphics control panel.    If the present, it usually has its own power management settings in Windows 7, and if so, set it to maximum performance when on battery and see if that solves your problem.     Other video card manufacturer may have similar power  settings as well if yours is not the Intel variety.    Other than some form of power management issue, I cannot see any other reason battery vs AC should make any difference.. Good Luck,

So one day I was using a laptop wirelessly when the internet just suddenly turned off. I checked my modem and it was working fine but when I checked my router, the lights were on but not blinking. it was just a steady light. when I checked for a wireless network the name of the network I usually use didnt show up.

I tried unplugging everything and plugging everything back in again and I tried pressing the reset button on the back of the router. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much

P.S. my router is a linksys WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband router

A:Wireless router suddenly stopped working (Lights still working though)

what devices do you have connected the router anything else wireless
make and model of the pc

does the PC work if you connect to the router by a cable ?
if not
try connecting directly to the modem and see if that works OK

we need to see some details, which will mean you need to copy to a working PC
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Direct link to the program is here
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all

I updated my Helix to Windows 10 shortly after it was released, and the pen worked great for several months. Then it just quit one day. I have tried everything I can find across the forums to fix it. I've tried updating to the Windows 10 wintab driver, I've tried rolling back to the Windows 8.1 wintab driver. I checked to make sure the firmware was up to date. Nothing is working, and if I try to install the wacom isd driver I get the error a supported tablet was not found on the system. If I go into device manager I can see a driver with a yellow exclamation point pop up under universal serial bus controllers when the pen is removed from its silo. Does anyone have any other suggestions I could try? Or is this most likely a hardware problem?

Two new motherboards tells us you made the same simple install error in both of them.
Tell us more about power supply, memory, cable.
Did you make sure the memory was correct for both new boards, and what is the memory on the old board. Would also like to know the power supply and other hard ware.
What happens with the most basic, simple install. Does everything light up?

If you used the same hard drive with the same Windows install on the two motherboards, that is the problem. Windows has detected that you have changed the motherboard and will not operate unless you reinstall Windows on the drive on each new motherboard... One install for each motherboard.
My guess is that you will be fine if you change hard drives or do reinstalls or repair installs of the Windows on the new motherboard.

Hi, one day I started my laptop and the SSD in it (MZ-7PC256D) suddenly stopped working.

What options do I have to get it working, or atleast recover the data in it.

I tried putting it in another laptop or checking in BIOS, it's simply not getting detected.

The SSD gets super hot when I connect it to the laptop and start it.

A:SSD suddenly stopped working.

Not to be harsh, but when you get it working again thru what ever means you might have to do, make an image on a flash drive or what ever you choose and then, if the SSD has failed completely, install a new one and use the image to bring you back to the time of your last backup.

I've been using the Microsoft Wireless Broadband router (MN-500) to connect to the internet. This afternoon, while I was away, the wireless connection was suddenly lost. The internet is fine, because when i plug my computer directly into the router (via ethernet), i am able to access the internet. However, the router does not seem to broadcast a wireless signal for the LAN.

I've reset the router, both manually and via the software and reconfigured the network. After this process, the Wireless Network sometimes appears momentarily in Windows...but the connection drops before it can connect.

All the lights on the router light up as normal and it indicates that both the wireless LAN and the WAN are working properly. I have no idea why I can't connect to the network wirelessly though...

Any thoughts?

We've got two PC's that are connected to the net, mine and my father's. Putting it directly from the cable box to my PC works, changing the port in the back of the router does not, however my father's will work on any of them. Obviously the only thing left would be the cable connecting my network card to the router, however, I've tried another cord I had laying around (which was working the last I tried it) and it still doesn't work. I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew numerous times on the varying configurations that I've tried. No luck.

A:USB ports suddenly stopped working!!

Tell us the brand and model of computer, whether a desktop or a laptop, and the location of the usb ports... whether front or back, or whether we are talking about a powered external hub, or a multimedia box in the middle of the computer which has a 9 in 1, 15 in 1, or similar memory card reader with USB ports.
Are the USB ports built into the case, or on a pci card slot on the back of the computer.
Generally, USB ports do not fail. There are a few times when they do because any electronics made with chips, thyristors, and printed circuits can fail. But USB ports are among the most rare of failures... except when you are using multiports.
On inexpensive USB connections, they all share one connector... If you have four or five ports on one connector to the motherboard, then those in use will reduce the power that is accessible on lower quality units.

A couple of days ago, it seemed to be arbitrary while watching a movie I think on netflixs,  the sound just started to shriek. when I moved the mouse to bottom right of screen to adjust the volume, I found it had an x over speaker icon? when I clicked on it to get to volume control, a audio window opened and a message that said detecting problem and fixing problems but nothing was resolved. On the same speaker icon I  Right clicked the sound option ad it states "no audio" for playback and recording options? So I go to the Realtek audio manager folder to reinstall but there is no response?I reinstall Realtek audio manager from realtek and still nothing? So I end up here frustrated.  How can I get my sound back? Thanks in advance IkarlosI

Earlier today I had my laptop connected to some speakers with a male to male jack and everything was going fine I unplugged that cable no music was playing at this point so I don't know if the problem started then or not and put it into sleep mode Later I woke it back up and suddenly there no was sound I checked the Device Manager and the sound systems supposed are working properly nothing's muted I plugged a pair of headphones in adjusted the system volume and could only hear the faintest sound when I maxed it out Also the little bubble quot You have plugged a device stopped Sound suddenly working into the audio output jack quot didn't pop up when I put the headphones in Sound suddenly stopped working or out Actually I just double checked the headphones and they seem to be working decently They are some old cheap ones which is probably why they didn't seem to work at first I have to find my good ones I suppose What seems to be the issue

A:Sound suddenly stopped working

Go into device manager, delete the audio devices, and reboot. Hopefully it'll redetect everything. If not, you'll want to go to computer make (HP, Toshiba, Sony, etc ) web site and download and install the drivers.

(Be gentle with me I am a middle aged lady not all that computer-savvy!)

My desktop PC is connected by ethernet to my D-Link G604T and I give my paying lodgers free wireless acess on their laptops.

This arrangement has worked perfectly for three years.

Now, suddenly, I am connected to the Net but nobody can get connected from their laptops.

The ONLY thing that has changed recently is that I did a reformat on my PC. That's all I did, I didn't unplug anything, just the simple reformat one does by putting in the Windows disk. Can that have caused this?

I've restarted the D-Link, and tried unplugging it, to no avail. I'm not all that brilliant with computers so I am now at a dead end.

Can anyone help?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62-215DX, running Norton Internet Security and firewall through Windows 7. I sucessfully installed new Wireless LAN and Lightscribe system software several days ago, along with the Live Essentials, Realtek and Windows 7 Updates.

Everything was operating correctly yesterday, but when I booted up my computer today my wireless mouse refused to work. After trying a fix involving a USB stick, I realized that none of my USB ports work. The ports light up when I restart, until Windows 7 finishes logging in, and once it begins the drivers refuse to work. Is it because of the recent updates? Because I cleaned up my back-up copies? Any help will be apprecited!

A:USB Ports Have suddenly stopped working...

Have you tried disabling and re-enabling all of your USB controllers and ports in Device Manager?

If you don't know how to do get there...
Start menu > Right click on Computer > Manage > Device Manager

Moreover, to disable USB ports, go to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers button in the Device Manager. Right click each individual one and click disable. For each one. Then after each one is disabled, start from the top and do the same thing but click Enable this time. There are some dependencies in there sometimes that will disable more than one individual device, so be aware of that.

The sound on my laptop stopped working suddenly . It had been working fine for about 1 year since I upgraded to Windows 10 .  It says "No output device is installed " under playback devices .But the IDT high definition Audio Codec shows up in Device Manager . If I tried to update driver, it fails . I can hear audio if I connect an external sound card , but not just regular headphones or from the laptop's speaker .When i tried Troubleshooting , it failed with the error code 0x80131018I have already tried all steps recommended by HP Support Assitant .Even tried Restting the laptop (all applications were deleted , but files restored) , but still no sound .

That day suddenly my PC's USB ports stopped working. I tried all USB ports with deferent kinds of drives(pendirve, mobile, modem) but computer is not responding. I tried reinstalling my windows 7 but remains same. I also tried Ubuntu, Mint, Hirens Boot CD etc but no OS finds my any kind of USB disc. On windows 7 I tried uninstalling and installing USB drives manually but don't work. In the mean time today at dawn one of my USB modem started working(on Win7) but after some seconds it became like before.

Can anyone figure out which problem I'm facing? Is it related to my hardware?

A:Suddenly all USB ports stopped working on win 7

First place I would start would be update all primary drivers for your PC, what ever flavor you have, desktop/laptop. Go to that vendors website and download and install all the latest drivers. If you have add on specific hardware go to that vendors site for drivers.

The next thing I would do is to rule out any Virus's, malware, spyware and adware that my be lurking about your system. It's known that some of these nasties can and do corrupt system software and hardware.

Hi and welcome to TSF!!!

Please check the device manager to see if the wireless device is still installed; make sure you do not have anything with an !, ?, or a red X next to it.

Check to see if your wireless service is running:
Click on START
Click on RUN
Click on OK
Locate the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service
Double click on it
Make sure it is set to START TYPE: Automatic
If the service is not running, please click on START to start the service.

hi all. not quite sure how it came about but my usb ports are not picking up any of my devices - ext hard drive, ext sound card etc. although the devices still light up as normal. there was new hardware trying to install itself the day this happened calling itself Human Interface Device with a load of numbers after it. i declined to install it but it still asks me if i want to start the install wizard after every reboot. i went into the usb 'bit' in the device manger, saw this human interface device at the end of the last usb and decided to delete it. this hasn't worked. anyone any ideas?
i use xp.

I used to have Homegroup working for all my computers. Now, for some reason, it doesn't work. Well, it says that some computers are joined, (on the individual computers) but when you open the Homegroup, no computers show and it says that there aren't any connected. I can have two laptops and a desktop all together, right next to each other, on the same network and they'll all say that. Yes, they all have the same password.I've tried to leave the Homegroup from all computers and start over again, but it won't allow me to create a new Homegroup. The only option is to "Join" which I did and am in the same place.Old stuff that still works, somewhat....

Over the past 48 hours, I have noticed my screensaver isn't kicking in. I read to uninstall PowerDVD (did that), stop the process ehtray.exe (did that), rebooted. Set my screensaver to kick in after 1 minute. Nothing.
I have my power settings set to "Never" i.e. Turn Off Display = Never, Put The Computer To Sleep = Never

I can preview the screensavers, but they just will not kick in.

A:Screensaver has suddenly stopped working

Does it do that in safe mode? Try a system restore point. Is this a screensaver that you installed or did it come with windows? If you installed it have you tried uninstalling it? Have you tried another screensaver?

---reboot pc

Hi huusch01,

Welcome to Seven forums.

First of all please let us know if the mic next to the webcam is not working or the port on the side of the system. Please check both of them and let us know which one is causing the issue.

If you are using a mic headset then check the same headset on different system to isolate the issue.

Also, check this link below which would be helpful in resolving this issue:

"I plugged a phone line that was connected to my into the port on the back of my computer".

Where did you plug the phone line into and what was the other end connected to?
Do you have a telephone modem installed?
What Operating System are you running?
Check Device Manager for misconfigurations.
Remove the audio device driver and reboot the system, let Windows reinstall the driver.
Check Services make sure Windows Audio Service is set to Automatic and the service is Started.

Jus to check, make sure the plugs are all in tight. Especially any headphone jack type plugs, those have 3 connectors and if it is slightly popped out you can lose a channel.

you can try going into the device manager, Control panel>device manager.
Click on Network Adapters and in the drop down right click on the ethernet device, in that drop down box select Uninstall, but keep your drivers and reboot your pc. If that does not work do the same thing again except remove the drivers. reboot, re-install the driver (you'll need the drivers on your pc to install) and see if that does anything

A:The USB Ports *SUDDENLY* Stopped Working in my De...

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
I am assuming that the two USB ports that are working are on the back of the computer.  That the two other back ones along with the front ones are not working.  Possibly there is a conflict with the hardware information stored in the CMOS which is preventing all the USB ports from working.  I would suggest you try clearing the CMOS to see if that will correct the problem you are having.  On page #26 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual show the location of the coin cell CMOS battery.  The battery's socket will either have a little tab to eject the battery or a slot in which you can use a small screw driver to lightly pry up the edge the battery.  With the machine unplugged remove the battery and press the power button for 15 seconds.  Then reinstall the battery, plug and then boot up the computer to see if the problem is resolved.  It is normal after clearing the CMOS to have to enter the time & date when the computer is booted  up.

Hi everyone, I've been using a D-link DIR-615 router successfully to connect to the internet for about 7 weeks. Up until now, it was working perfectly, both wirelessly and wired. It's also using the latest firmware (4.00).

The internet status LED on the front of the router is orange instead of green. When accessing the admin panel, it shows a blank IP address so I believe it's having trouble getting an IP address from the modem.

I've tried rebooting it numerous times and still the internet light remains orange and it's not working. I've even tried restoring it to the factory settings but to no avail. The internet works fine if I connect to the modem directly so it's definately the router at fault.

Does anyone know why it would suddenly stop working after such a short time? I'm out of ideas.

i don't use the lan card to connect to the internet since i have a wireless adapter. i do however use it as a network bridge for connectivity for my xbox 360.

so i was playing xbox live until suddenly i got disconnected. i checked my computer to see that it said the network cable was unplugged. i already tried to uninstall drivers, reboot, tried a different cable etc. i narrowed it down to the nforce network controller. any help would be much obliged

Update: fixed it myself, im guessing it was an irq problem because i went into the bios and just disabled some ports i wasnt using like the parallel port for example, and the problem has cleared up.

I've looked everywhere for a solution to this, but everyones problem seems to be slightly different to mine, and nothing I've tried works anyway...

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 (I know it's pretty s**t) and the cd drive for it is a TSST
TS-L532B and a couple of weeks ago it just stopped recognising any disks (audio, CD, DVD etc). The computer recognises the drive (it appears in My Computer) but when I put a CD in I can hear it whizz around try to read it, but it never works...

I tried download some new firmware for it but no luck...

If windows recognizes the drive then the drive is probably shot.

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows 8.1 Pro.
I was on cs portable with a USB mouse and I pressed a few keys and the mouse stopped to work. It came up with the message that it was not recognized. I tried to uninstall the USB drivers, but had no luck. This problem has been going on for a few days. I tried other solutions but they didn't seem to work. The red LED light was on.

Any help is appreciated very much,

I use my laptop regularly to present via LCD projectors using a VGA cable. After a break of 4 weeks, I cannot get the output to work.  On one projector / cable, the display kept flickering on and off, as if the connection to my laptop was physically wobbly at the location where the VGA cable meets the laptop.  On the next projector / cable, my laptop registered that the cable was stable and connected and offered the display options for dual display.  However the display was not shown on the screen.  Both projectors / cables work well with other laptops. Any ideas?

A:Internet suddenly stopped working

I suspect your LAN card has fried. If you are able to, try running diagnostics on the device itself (there's probably an ability to do this from "Device Manager"). If you can't, then I don't know how you could test for it being dead other than if when you plug in an Ethernet cord the clear connector doesn't light up green (mine does on our Dell Dimension 3000 XP Desktop to communicate to me that it IS working, IS plugged in and IS receiving proper connection from and to the Modem/Router).

If yours does have an LED as described and it DOESN'T turn the clear plastic connector of the LAN cable green, then it's dead and there's no bringing it back.

And if/when you confirm it is fried, you need to replace it. They're generally inexpensive if you don't want it to be WiFi or anything other than your standard 802.11g 10/100/1000 Gigabit LAN. You can probably pick one up without the "bells and whistles" for $30 or less online these days. They work just as good as the $100 ones, just without some "extras".

The other thing to suspect would be your MOBO. Bridges/connections on them can and sometimes do fry out, effecting other components they distribute the power too. Hopefully that's not the problem because they're in the $100+ range to replace.
EDIT: The "Default Gateway" is obtained by your Modem/Router. The fact you are getting "not available" means that there is no communication between the computer and the Modem/Router. Since your LAN cable is functional, I stand by what I said. It's most likely your LAN card and it's very highly likely that it has fried.

Both of my CD ROM drives on my computer have stopped working. I have gone into the device manager, and both devices have the yellow question mark next to them. I uninstalled both devices and restarted the computer. It recognizes the hardware on startup and attempts to start them, but then I get a message that says there was an error with the hardware installation. The Device Status says: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

I have performed a registry mechanic to see if that would help, but nothing.

Any thoughts?

Hi Turbonis!
This article from Microsoft support page may help you understand and fix the issue through a few steps like scanning for hardware changes and resetting the USB controller:
If not, then it could be that the USB ports have just died. For that, you'll need to take your PC to a professional to determine the damage.
Best of luck!

Hi guys, I'm hoping somebody can help me out here...

The first thing I do after installing win 7 is apply the uxtheme patch. I've been running custom themes for a while, but yesterday decided to change the look of things. I applied a os x leopard type theme, it didn't work and now I've lost all desktop visual effects (transparency, themes, win+tab).

I run the diagnostic and it detects that 'Windows Desktop Manager is disabled' - so I think "Ok, I'll just go into services and re-enable it"... but it's GONE! How the hell can a service just remove it self?

So I run System Restore back to when I knew it was working, but still no damn transparency, that service or themes, just the default non-transparent Aero!

Could anyone help???

My sound has always worked, except tonight when I opened a game that I've played many times before with sound, there was none. The speaker in my dashboard has a red cross on it.
In the properties of my Realtek HD Audio it reads: "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled.  An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"
I simply have no use for a PC with no sound. Can someone please tell me how to get it back? I've tried updating the driver, uninstalling and reinstalling it, reseting my pc but still no sound.

My main desktop which has been going through a bit of a patch at the moment now has all USB ports acting very strangely in that plug something in and the insert sound goes off but nothing shows up in Computer and even Kaspersky does not ask if I want to scan it.

The machine has the usual back and front ports and also a card reader (Icy Box with 2x3.0 and 4x2.0 and SD etc slots)

Now I have tried chkdsk /f /r sfc MBAM SAS ADW full Kaspersky scan and tried the sticks and drive sin my other machines and all are good. Have installed all the drivers etc etc but still no go.

Any ideas please before I run a rescue disk and memtest as I seem to be running out of options. Boards about three years old now - Asus P8Z77-V

Try unplugging all the power and let it sit overnight. Then plug in and try again in the morning. I've seen this work on occasion when all the USB ports suddenly don't work. For that matter, if simply unplugging AC doesn't work, might be worth pulling out any CMOS battery too.

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone can help.

My wife was using our PC, playing an online puzzle game, and she muted the sound.
When I came to use the PC myself, I noticed the sound was muted, so I un-muted it, expecting all to be good again, but it wasn't.
No sound at all !
After messing around for quite a while, I tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, that hasn't worked.
I've just done a system restore, and that hasn't worked either.
I've run MBAM & Microsoft Security Essentials, and neither has shown any problems.
I'm at a total loss, please help.

Many thanks in advance

It is still under warranty. What do I do????

It was working one day, and then the next it wasn't. I've tried all the common fixes, like checking to see if everything is plugged in correctly, looking in Device Manager to make sure the volume is up and there are no "mute" boxes checked. Device Manager says the card is in working order. All of that, but I'm getting no sound. I know the speakers work because I'm running the sound through a Pioneer receiver and when I set it on "tuner" I can hear sound. So that's not the issue.

I'm thinking it's some kind of driver conflict or something, but I haven't added any software lately, so I don't know why things would've changed.

The bottom line is, any help you could give me would be appreciated much.

A:Sound on my PC stopped working suddenly

It would be useful to know brand, model, OS, and age of computer.
Have you looked in the device manager for red, yellow, or black flags indicating a driver problem?
If you have driven your computer to high volume for very long you may have "burned out" the sound components. In that case, if you have on-board sound, you will need to install a PCI sound card.

My sound was working earlier today. I was listening to music on youtube, and paused it in order to read something off a different website. When I went to re-play the song, my sound had suddenly stopped working.

I've tried system restore and updating drivers. Everything seems to be working correctly, but no sound will play. There are no errors in regards to the driver, card, or playing sounds.

However, when I go to the sound mixer and there is a sound playing, no green line will appear indicating volume. Same if I click on the mixer and adjust the volume.

Can anybody help me?

Difference I have is that I get message "C:Windows\system32\dssend.dll" and in Media player notice says "is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using original installation"...which I did but still the same. I also ger the dssend.dll message in some incoming e-mail stating picture is poor quality.....when it is not. All this happenned out of the blue, I had not installed any new programmes or devices. Anyone got any clues to resolve please.

I don't really know where else to post this, so I'm putting it here.

Whenever I try to open Firefox, I get this error message:

"Error launching browser window: no XBL binding for browser"

The odd thing is, the last thing I changed with Firefox is downloading the new update (since it did that all on its own) and removing the CoolIris plugin because I decided I didn't like it. It didn't stop working right away, though. It was fine for a day or two and then it suddenly wouldn't work anymore. What could be causing this?

That seems like the solution. Let me know if this works!

My USB 3.0 ports have been working fine up until this morning, when I turned on my PC, and my mouse hadn't been moving. So I plugged it into one of the regular USB ports to see what would happen, and it worked there. I tried various other devices and I ended up finding out that none of my devices were working in the USB 3.0 ports. I only have two regular USB ports, and I use more than that many devices, so obviously this is a huge problem. I tried reinstalling my USB 3.0 drivers, the Etron 3.0 USB drivers, but to no avail. Still nothing. It may be worth nothing that when my keyboard or headset are plugged into a USB 3.0 slot, they light up but do no function. Screenshot of system specs attached.

l was typing a document yesterday and then suddenly the enter key stopped working closely followed by the "t, i, o, g, :, and UP keys.

Any idea what has caused this and how I can fix it? [trying to avoid buying a new keyboard... laptop user... sony vaio - vgn/c1z.]

A:Certain keys suddenly stopped working

Boot into safe mode or command prompt.

See if keyboard works. Or even in BIOS and see if the UP key works. Make sure its not a software issue (virus). if those keys still don't work... you have 2 choices:

1 - Buy a USB keyboard for $10~25 (cheap and easy)
2 - Order a new keyboard from SONY and install it yourself of pay a tech. Most likely will require taking apart the notebook.

A friend of mine is using #1.

I have a HDX16 laptop running windows 7. The battery is a year and a few months old, and yesterday was giving me at least 50 min of battery life. However today, it wont hold a charge at all and my computer shuts down completely whenever the power supply is interrupted for a millisecond. I ask because this is the second time a battery has suddenly stopped working on me and I am wondering if there is a reason for this. I tried to check the battery condition by hitting esc + f2 when my computer starts up, but there is no battery check option. Any explanation or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks for your time.

Hey Aitchpk,  I'm sorry you're having a battery issue. I would suggest running a battery check using HP Support Assistant if you have it installed on your computer.  You could also try using this standalone Battery Check. Do you have any issues like this if you operate the computer without the battery and just have the power cord plugged in?

Hi everyone,

Found this website when looking for a solution to my problem.

Last night I was using the internet fine with my TravelMate 4220, running MS XP.

I went downstairs for a couple of hours and when I went back upstairs my computer had gone into hibernation. I turned it back on and it wasn't connected to the wireless router I have. I opened the network connections and it couldn't find either of the two routers I have - on different ISPs.

As you can see, I am currently online (using my Dad's laptop) and so the internet works fine - it must be my computer!

Can anyone help me? It finds the 'free public WiFi' but not any of the other routers in my local area.

I really need my computer for work, so am a little worried!

I have restarted it three times, but nothing is working!!

A:Solved: Wireless suddenly stopped working

Hey everyone, it was solved, by my mother no less! She went into IE, ran diagnostics and there was a problem with the windsock, or something, so all is fine now.

As the headline says, a large chunk of the keyboard suddenly stopped working. Ctrl, Alt, Alt Gr, PgDn, PgUp, arrow keys, and Esc, at least. I've tried reboot, hard/forced reboot, and clean reboot. There is no keyboard driver or Launchpad utility available on Acer's website. Model: Acer Aspire E3-112Windows 10 64-bit What do I do? I've had trouble with the touchpad before, which was resolved following a Windows update. I haven't found anything here or through Google, but maybe several users are experiencing this problem right now and it is being fixed as we speak?

A:Lenovo G50-45 headphone suddenly stopped working

Hi Kwstas_chris,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with microphone not working on your Lenovo  G50-75 laptop.
Go to Control Panel, click on Hardware and Sound Click on Sound then you devices should come up ; speakers, Digital Audio, and headphones plug your headphones in, then select headphones at the bottom and select set as default option !! then when you disconnect your headphones it automatically switches to the speakers and when you plug them back in it automatically will switch to headphones!!
Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!
Best regards,

This problem happens with any mic so I definitely don't need to replace it. Same problem with both mic inputs on front and back of the PC.Turning down the microphone boost in the sound settings stops the static noise but doesn't fix the mic. I have updated BIOS, reinstalled audio drivers, and just messed around with sound settings and nothing has worked. I tried recording with the mic but it only picks up static.

A:windows icon suddenly stopped working

Which Windows icon are you referring to?
The Start button in the lower left?
Have you scanned for malware?
What have you done to the system recently?
