Q: which desktop PC tower should i get?

i want one for hopefully $400 to $500. i want to be able to play YouTube video's on an

HDTV that will be connected to it. i want to be able to open multiple tabs at the same time

on my Firefox browser. i am not a gamer. i don't do video, movie or major graphic editing. i

can't open multiple tabs at the same time on my present PC. it has a core i3 processor. my

memory usage stays around 2GB Even during video playing. i don't use much processor

power even when playing video's. i have an Intel HD graphics card.

Preferred Solution: which desktop PC tower should i get?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:My tower Power button will not work

You could have a defective power switch on the PC case. Test this by using the reset switch as a temporary power switch. The power switch and the reset switch are the same for practical purposes except, of course, the size of the button (on most cases). If the reset switch works and is able to start the PC, then you know the power switch is defective.

Bought the following brand new at Best Buy on and trying to get setup Lenovo K e desktop tower keyboard and mouse LG MP HQ monitor MS Office key code Webroot internet security disc After connecting everything according to the instruction of both the Lenovo and LG instructions double amp triple checking all parts accounted for and connected properly here s what happened Lenovo tower up turn Monitor tower, hooked on doesn't to but boots up fine disc drive in tower opens and closes properly Lenovo keyboard and mouse both detected Great so far except LG monitor does not turn on at all In the back of the monitor two things are connected blue HDMI connector with pins on both sides is connected to HDMI connection in back of tower AC DC adapter plugged into electrical outlet and other end directly into monitor Everything works when power booted up except monitor shows no life - no light indicator and black screen Monitor hooked up to tower, but doesn't turn on Monitor just doesn t turn on at all There are driver discs for both lenovo win and the LG monitor and like I said I can insert them into the tower and close but nothing happens on the monitor display Best Buy said it should be no issue using the LG monitor with the Lenovo PC tower They will charge me to come out to my home even though I bought two year Geek Squad plan They also said I would still get charged even if they were unable to get Monitor hooked up to tower, but doesn't turn on me setup Seems like there is one probably really easy fix but I don t want to pay to have them come out if I get charged regardless of the outcome Anyone out there with any idea what could be preventing the monitor from powering up other than Monitor hooked up to tower, but doesn't turn on it s bad which is unlikely as it was brand new sealed in the box Thanks nbsp

A:Monitor hooked up to tower, but doesn't turn on

If no standby LED on monitor, is there a separate on/off switch on the side of the monitor?
With LG there are usually manual buttons for CH+- & vol +- plus On/Off (although I have seen monitors with no on/off at all.)
Also check for 'hidden' buttons on the front lower edge of frame or under the front (right) edge.
I would try a different mains lead/cord that is known to to work, also check for a fuse in the plug, could be missing, or isolated with plastic foil.
Even with no inputs the monitor would show a 'No Signal' sign if it was working.
If no 'standby' LED and you have a separate AC to DC adapter block then that could be the problem. All monitors I've seen have a direct AC connection though.
If it then does work, the on-screen menu will need to be selected, and 'input' changed to HDMI.

Hi friends I just recently upgraded my desktop with a bunch of what I thought was great parts (over $1000.00) to make my editing life more enjoyable, well I'm shocked to find out after testing both the same projects on both my laptop and newly upgraded desktop ,my laptop rendered the project faster than my big desktop, I'm just wondering why. I was expecting my desktop to render the project twice as fast!
Here are the specs on my laptop and desktop computers, can anyone explain to me why my laptop was faster. I used Corel VideoStudio ProX7 on both test.
Thanks

A:Three long beeps on Intel desktop board D850MV/D850EMV2

I think three beeps on Intel is a memory issue. At least that what it was when I had a stick of cheap RAM crap out on me.

I'd run Memtest and go from there

RAM can fail from a number of causes. Heat exposure, flaky transistor junctions, who knows. I seriously doubt plugging the TV in had anything to do with it.
You could go into BIOS to ascertain if the RAM voltage is set correctly. Over-volting is a DIMM killer.

You should be able to get documentation for that board directly off Intel's web site. Intel used to give BIOS beep codes ion the board/chipset manuals.

They also have hardware monitor software as a free download. Look up "Intel Desktop Utilities Lite".

Hey there,

I've been playing crysis 3 a lot lately and it usually run's my GPU temp around 65-70 degree's ( MSI GeForce GTX 770 4GB TWIN FROZR ) I know the card is suppose to run up to 80 degree's no problem but I was just wondering if I played at these higher temps for 3-5 hours at a time. Would that be to much stress in terms of heat on the GPU ??

A few years back I was talking with a friend about dust bunnies in a tower & how to keep them out.
I had a somewhat odd idea of using a case covering somewhat like a pillow case to do such. It gets dirty, take it off & put another one on. Much like an air filter in a car. Does that sound ridicules or not?? Just curious.

Might keep 80% of the dust out, but not all would be stopped. Could also get in the way of case cooling, by entrapping heat insde.

A:Buying Parts For Building a Gaming Desktop

Don't get Velociraptor. Get a 1TB WD Black instead.
Caching drive: uses the HDD for files, but stores commonly-accessed stuff on the SSD.
For best performance, get an SSD and use it for OS and core productivity programs. Then store games/media/documents on the HDD.
Don't need additional LAN card.
Why are you buying an additional audio card? It's nice, but your mobo comes with a decent one to begin with.
It's probably cheaper to get TWO dual-channel 2x 8GB RAM kits, instead of the quad-channel one.
Maybe spend a little more on CPU cooler, since you're getting the top GPU too. May I suggest a ~$100 all-in-one water cooling kit.
120GB SSDs are better value these days.

I apologize in advance for the annoying noob question.

I just moved into my brother's old house. I have misgivings about the electrical outlets and the wiring in the place. I lost my old AVR during the move. Now I have to buy a new one.

I've got a Corsair AX1200 PSU installed in my aging machine. Will a 1500W AVR suffice? Should I get something bigger?

I don't do any heavy computing at all. All I do is work on MS Word documents, play games and surf the web. I might lay down a few tracks and record a little music sometimes. But that's it.

Thanks.

A:AVR for my desktop PC

1500 w should be more than adequate. While the PSU is rated 1200 w, how much wattage does it actually use normally? Do you plan on plugging other devices to the AVR (monitor, router, etc.)? I don't have an AVR, I do have a UPS w/ AVR. Maybe something to consider if the wiring is iffy.

Not sure if this is the right forum thread to post this. I'm replacing an Hp Pavillion P6597C and don't know what to purchase or where to purchase it from. I loved my Pavillion but it's crashed on me three times it's first year and again a few weeks ago under the extended warranty.

I'm not a gamer, but do work from home on my computer daily. All my printers are Hp as well as my laptop. I've contacted Tiger Direct and they've recommended an Hp Compaq Elite 8300 (item H24-2406), plus they had a Gateway that was comparable, but I've heard pros and cons about Gateway. A former boss of mine recommended I contact Newegg and PC Mall for pricing too.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. I'm told I should stick with at least 6GB and either an i5 (or i7) processor.

Thanks!

A:Recommendations on where to purchase a new desktop?

This forum is all about how to get the most out of your computing experience and we're always happy to help anyone to accomplish this, whatever their budget or intended use. We usually recommend building your own, because for the same money you'll have a better PC, with more reliable parts and a clear upgrade path. But not everyone has the time or confidence to pull it off, so for them a pre-built OEM system is the only viable option. If this describes your situation, then by all means you should go that route. But first, you should know this; the Elite 8300 and most other systems like it are built with proprietary power supplies and motherboards, so you're stuck with the cheap 320 watt power supply (but not cheap if you have to buy one from HP), and the motherboard doesn't even seem to have a standard 24 pin connector. If you click this link you'll see what I mean - http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03612799/c03612799.pdf
There are OEMs that build with standard ATX parts, such as these - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2023376&Sku=SYX-1112 RF
http://www.ibuypower.com/lobby.aspx
I ran the ibuypower system configurator for a system geared towards your needs, and this is a screenshot of the result -

A little more than $600, but much better all around. Go to ibuypower.com and try the configurator yourself, the options are extensive, and you can easily configure a system for $600 if that's you budget cap. I started by clicking on the "Intel Z77 i5/i7 $959" button, but you could also click on "Intel Z77 i5 $719".
EDIT - I didn't include an operating system, so if you need one, be sure to select it in the configurator.
If you do decide to build your own, let me know and I'll help you choose components. Good luck!

I have an Hp Pavilion G7 and it is remotely connected to my wife's HP desktop. I have windows 7 and she has xp pro. whenever I am at home I connect to her computer and view my home surveillance cameras but when I go to a different location it will not allow me to connect. also I can connect to my work remote computer at any location.

A:Remote desktop connection problem

Sounds like a concept issue.

Remote Desktop needs the firewall to enable inbound port 3389 as a default. That will allow ANY pc connected to your router to use RD.

However, for some system outside your LAN (eg your work environment accessing one of the home PCs), the router must forward port 3389 explicitly to the LAN address of the target machine.

I am sure you did this long ago and just forgot about it, so log into your router and verify there is a port forward listed there.

Now the bad news is you can only PF to one machine and to see another, the router config needs to be changed.

It might be possible to enable UPnP in the router to enable an auto-config, but that would take some "inside knowledge" of how the lan was configured.

A:Overclock Intel Celeron D in Dell desktop

Since you say your PC is a Dell, I don't think you will have any options to over-clock.

Celeron's are locked processors, so you don't have the option to increase the multiplier.
Dell as well as other manufacturers usually lock the BIOS, so you wouldn't be able to increase the base frequency either.

One day we can get on and the next we cant, any ideas? The computer also appears to be a little sluggish (only 2 years old).

Any help is appreciated.

You will receive more replies if your question is clear. Right now, I can't say I understand what you're asking. But, I will try and see if I can answer your question.

The amount of damage a desktop can go through all depends on material the case is made out of. What 'damage' it is actually going through and the frequency it incurs the damages. If you're talking about moving a desktop from one place to another. For instance, you're going to a LAN party and you're moving it from house to house. You do put your machine at risk, but it all depends on how you handle it. I am pretty sure if you are careful the desktop wont go through any damage.

However, if you're talking about intentionally dropping a PC or dragging it around (why in the world you be?). Then, again, it all depends on the material the case is made out of. As well as how well put together the build is in general. I am sure most people will not want to think about what may happen to their machines if they dropped it on the floor. The damage could result in parts breaking or coming a loose. Problems that I believe you will want to avoid.

When it comes to a Gaming PC's lifetime. It all depends on the parts that are used. For example, I could build a PC today with all the latest parts and it will probably last me a good 5-8 years. However, I can't say you will be able to call it a "gaming" PC 8 years from now. At the rate technology advances the machine would probably only retain it's "gaming" title for another 2 or 3 years.

Hopefully that clears up something for you. And, maybe someone with more knowledge on the matter will chime in.

Dear friends,
I was wanting to open up my desktop CPU, with the case. I wud be disconnecting all the input wires to avoid any kind of shocks. But, I thought, if I wud be removing all its parts I.e. HDD RAMdisk, motherboard... , and if I join them back to its earlier locations (just to get an insight of my CPU in detail), wud it affect my earlier work done on my Desktop? Wud I have to re- install the OS? Will it change any of my earlier used settings in the Desktop?
Please advice...

A:Will it affect my earlier desktop settings?

Doing this could cause the computer not to "see" the hard drive any longer, thus not being able to boot up properly. Is it really worth doing this?

This is confusing to me. Anytime I've been on a laptop in my apt. I have no problem getting a good or very good signal on it, yet using the same Belkin USB device on my tower in the same exact place, low or less than good connection.
The router is on the first floor, I'm on the 2nd floor & a few walls are in between . Why?
I'm thinking of having the router moved, a booster used or relocationg the router.
I'm currently on DSL . Wi-fi is just an option.TIA

A:Laptop Wi-Fi good connection but not tower?

The router should be on the second floor above most of the equipment that it is actually connected to it for the best possible signal strength. I'd guess you're having a driver issue between the different computers, but you're probably gonna tell me that both computers are Windows 7 and have the same driver or something like that.

My laptop won't turn on and it's the only computer that has Windows 7. Is there any way for me to take the hard drive from that and use it in my desktop and run Windows 7 without buying a disc?

A:Can I move my laptop HD to a desktop?

bottom line is 99.999% no.

The HD contains the OS itself + the hardware drivers specific to the machine where the OS
was originally installed. At a very minimum, the hardware drivers would all need to be replaced - -
and without the right ones, the OS would not run far enough (if at all) to allow them to be updated.

If you're really really really knowledgeable on PCs and Windows (which kind of you're not as you are asking here),
then there's a long complicated path of
a] finding the drivers needed for the new maching
b] accessing the old drive
c] installing the drivers from [a] onto
d] moving the old drive to the new target platform
c] trying to boot

Then there's the question of the CPU differences between the old and new and if not compatible, this was all for not.

IT IS POSSIBLE to get all the old data from that drive to a new system, using something like this,
assuming that the old HD is functional and not corrupted.

Hey, I am at the stage we all go through many times in our lives. Trying to decide what computer to get while your computer you have is slowly dying. I'm looking for hints on what computer might be the best for my needs as a gamer.

The main specifications i would like:

Atleaste 8gb Ram
64bit CPU
Good graphics card
Good processor
Pre-installed with Windows 7 (Home Premium is fine)
Pretty much able to handle HD games without me setting all the graphics setting and performance settings to "Ultra Low" - "Ultra High" would be nice!
Something that doesn't overheats itself while using these settings (Don't want to keep checking the heat meters anxiously )
Room for upgrades, easily accessible inside.

Not every detail is needed really but that would be a dream computer. Thank-you for your help.

A:Trying to choose a gaming desktop -- high performance, no overheating

If you have the cash, and no DIY confidence, go for an Alienware.
If you like DIY (like me), read up reviews of hardware which you want, go to the hardware market, buy the 'dream hardware', go home, and assemble.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

As long as you have a PCI express socket on the motherboard, that card will work. You may need a power cable adapter to be able to connect the card to the power supply

A:New desktop computer!

you sure you don't want to put the parts together yourself? If I bought a "top of the line" PC and it only produced 30fps I would seriously hurt someone. You are aiming for a steady 60+ fps. The higher the resolution and advanced graphic settings the lower your fps gets hence why a discrete GPU is needed. @1080 and @60+ FPS should be your goal (unless your monitor supports a higher resolution). You could spend $1100 in parts and get a computer that will outperform the ones listed by quite a bit. Each ones you picked have problems with the builds. You would want the 2700k CPU of the one and the 560ti from the other and the board from yet another. You should find out if they all come with an actual Windows 7 disk or is it pre-installed only.

If what you want to do is game just add a 570/580 and a PSU to something like this. This is to give you an idea that 40-50% of your build cost should be the GPU and PSU. There are obviously better bundles to be found than this.

Dell desktop has a dell USB wireless adapter. System worked fine a week ago and now all of a sudden won't connect to the network.
Doesn't even attempt to get an IP.

It can see the networks in the area but can never connect. Repair doesn't work, reset TCP/IP stack didn't work. Uninstall and re-install adapter didn't work. Updated driver didn't work.

System is running XP SP3.

All the other systems in the house work fine. Router is provided by Comcast and uses WPA2.

I am moving to a new house, and I am wondering how to move my computer + monitor without damaging it. I've already backed up all the files, so I don't need to worry about that.

I have a 24 inch monitor and my case is a cooler master haf 932. I'll be transporting it on my own car, so I'll be handling it myself.

What's the best way to go about transporting the computer? Should I disassemble all the components? Or should I just pack it in a cardboard box with styrofoam. Would just putting it in the car work?

A:How to transport my desktop?

i would just throw it on the back seat on its side.

Have a quick check that nothings worked loose before you turn it back on

Hello. I am in the market for a laptop or maybe even a desktop. If it is a laptop I would like a 17 inch screen but a 15 inch will work too. I would like 6-8GB of RAM, 500GB+ Hard Drive, 1GB of Radeon or NVIDIA graphics card, and a 2nd Generation i5 or i7 processor. Please help me find the best deal and a great laptop. Thanks

A:What laptop/desktop should I get?

well your first thing is determining if you want a laptop or a desktop. Desktops offer MUCH more bang for the buck. a laptop with similar specs to a desktop will cost twice as much.
Do you have a budget? a laptop with those specs will probably cost over a thousand dollars, while you could get a desktop with those specs (depending on graphics card) for about 600. (700 with cheap peripherals like monitor, keyboard, and mouse)

If you are set on a laptop, i would look at asus stuff. They make their own chipsets and usually sell durable and reliable products. Companies such as Acer are cheaper with similar specs, but they have arguable build quaility/reliability.

The best way to get a good deal on a desktop is to build your own. It honestly is not that hard and if you just go in step by step you should have no problem if you decide to do so.
The best bang for buck processor is the i5-2500k, which costs at most online retailers from $200 to $220. 8GB of desktop ram costs about $40. I can make more recommandations if you want to take this route, but you should tell us really what you want more first.

Here's the specs guys. The two potential problems are: I'm not sure if the memory is compatible and I'm not sure if the power supply is enough. I would be using this for watching HD videos and coding. In addition to background programs, I would only have 1 or 2 programs running at once. This will have Windows 7 64bit, 24 in. monitor, usb keyboard and mouse.

Okay, so my question is whether there is any difference between having two 2x2 dual channel memory versus one 4x4 dual channel memory. Both would end up with 8 gigs, while one uses 4 slots and the other only 2 slots. For instance, I have the G.Skill Ripjaw 2x2 memory installed, and I am looking at upgrading to 8 gigs. Would simply buying another set to fill in my two remaining memory slots be the same as swapping out the 2x2 for 4x4 memory? This is of course assuming I have 4 memory slots supporting dual channel memory, and all other memory variables are kept constant.

A:Desktop memory 4x4 vs 2x2 + 2x2

Since you already have 2x2GB you might as well go ahead and add another 2x2GB to get to 8GB.

A:I got a new desktop since my Alienware bring me down

Thats a little sad.

The Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 is a Z68 chipset board using the FC-LGA1155 socket. It requires a "Sandy Bridge" LGA1155 CPU ( four digit model number starting with 2. i.e. 2400, 2500, 2600 etc... There are also unlocked three multiplier CPU's suffixed "K" ( 2500K, 2600K and 2700K) for people who like the idea of overclocking. Which brings us to your CPU...

...which is a "Lynnfield" CPU made for FC-LGA1156 for the previous series of Intel motherboards ( P55 primarily).

In short, your CPU is NOT able to work with the board you have chosen. You will need to return it and select a CPU from this range of models.

This is the motherboards product page. You can view the CPU support list from the button on the right-hand side of the page. I would also double check RAM compatibility (either from the board's manual or download a copy of the memory support list ) - the RAM you have listed is rated at quite a large voltage range (1.5 - 1.8 volts)...anything over 1.65 volts will cause your (eventual) CPU to have an incredibly short lifespan.

Greetings,

And how will I be able to deal with it ? I mean will I see it as a new hard disk in Windows ?

Thanks.....

A:Connecting a SCSI HDD to a desktop PC

I've done a lot of work in SCSI and you are on the right track.
One important issue with your drive: Was it originally an external or internal drive?
An internal drive will have 3 resistors near the cable connector on the pc-board,
while an external will not.

There is one issue you need to resolve: what connector is on your drive?
SCSI has three styles of cabling scsi-I, scsi-II, & scsi-III. Your drive will need
to cable to your controller card.

use google to look for SCSI cables and you'll get some pictures and descriptions.

As you may not have worked with this before, I'll remind you that SCSI needs terminator and the end of the device chain - - even if there's only one device.
There are two types: Active and Passive - - it doesn't matter.

While your drive will have only ONE connector, due to the termination requirement,
it MUST be mounted in a SCSI enclosure which will provide:

the cable connector (internal) to the drive
the scsi cable connector to the controller card
the connector for the terminator
AND the scsi address selector {0-7} (never use 0, that's for the controller/internal hd), so typically select (1) as the scsi address
btw, (b-c) can be the upper or the lower connectors, they are not polarized.

Thanks

A:HDD usage light on desktop?

Yes most desktops will have the hdd indicator light. It usually has a small icon of a disc next to it. If the light is there but does not light than more than likely the connector has come off of the main board. There is also software to do this (free).. Just google it.

Hi Everyone.

Unfortunately my laptop died recently however I have good reason to believe that the hard drive is still ok. There are some photos and music on it which I would like to recover.

I bought a Dynamode 2.5" SATA/IDE Enclosure from PC World and have connected this to my desktop PC via the USB connector supplied with the enclosure. The enclosure is USB powered. The laptop HDD is a WD Scorpio Blue 250GB. The desktop runs on XP whereas the laptop ran on Vista.

I cannot get my desktop PC to see the HDD. I'm sure it is plugged in correctly and the lights come on on the enclosure so it is getting power. I have installed the drivers and software from the CD Rom which came with the enclosure but none seems to have helped. Unfortunately there were no instructions with it.

Please could somebody help?

Thanks in advance!
Rich

A:Trouble using laptop 2.5" HDD as external storage with a desktop PC

Your enclosure gets power but does you hard drive? You can place you ear next to the hard drive to hear if it is spinning.. There are also 2.5" to 3.5" adapters which are specifically made so that you can connect a laptop hard drive to your desktop. When your computer does not "see" a hard drive it can be
1. no power to the drive
2. no interface to the drive
3. the hard drive is dead.
4. in your case the enclosure could be malfunctioning (unlikely but possible)

Something like this is what you'll need.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129184

From there you'd need the cables depending on what type of interface you're monitors support. This particular card comes with 4 mini display to display-port and 2 mini-display to DVI. So check monitor's connection options and buy cables accordingly. I can't seem to find a decent current specs sheet on you're PC, so I'm not sure if you're current PSU will be able to power this card.

A:Building a computer witth a mini-ATX tower

Typo: you listed the monitor twice, once under PSU, Otherwise those parts look fine however even though it is a minitower due to the front mounted power supply that case will support a full ATX motherboard. I would personally recommend a Full ATX motherboard since they offer much more expansion. This is a good option and only costs slightly more, Although If you go with something like this you will get SATA 6gbps, USB 3.0, more memory slots, and a faster chipset.

Also Biostar motherboards are ok but far from the best try to look for boards from Gigabyte, ASUS, or MSI.

A:Possible new desktop, need help deciding which PC is good

Firstly the Ram is: Memory: 12GB (2GBx6) DDR3/1600MHz Triple Channel Memory Module (Corsair or Major Brand), as you already said above?

I would advice searching around other pc buiders because you can get 2nd gen I7 2600K for cheaper then the I7-960 and its like 4 times faster.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 will handle most new games (not at the highest settings) but if you want a really powerfull computer that will cut through any game, choose either 3x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 or 2x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 or one NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 and with Radeons atleast 2x HD6970 or one HD6990

ASUS ENGTX450 1GB D5 Direct CU TOP

ASUS SATA -DVD-RW

A:New desktop for gaming

Other than that video card it looks good. If you're really going to be gaming on this machine I'd get something a little beefier on the video card side. You'll be seriously bottlenecked there if not unless you're playing at a really tiny resolution.

A:Best way to update graphics on five-year-old IBM desktop

We heed to know the components you have before we can recommend upgrades. What is the IBM model number - or better a link to the IBM spec list for it - and what new components did you put in?

Also, what is your budget and how do you use the PC?

For a starter on learning about video card upgrades, I recommend this site:

http://www.upgradevideocards.com/

Pay particular attention to the criteria page that addresses system constraints in the upgrade process - and helps you define your wants and needs in a way that is useful:

A:Building a new desktop machine, advice welcome

You'll love that case. I built a gaming rig for my brother-in-law using that case and it has plenty of fans. With a cpu cooler (which you list), it should do quite well in the cooling aspect. Keep in mind that periodic removing of dust is essential because the HAF (High Air Flow) cases move a lot of air.

How much rendering will you be doing?

Hey guys, I recently bought an old HP OEM computer (a 'dc7700', I think) off eBay. It's one of those towers that is placed horizontally, and it's quite thin. I was planning on using it as an HTPC but it lags when trying to watch HD movies, so I think I'm going to buy some really low-end graphics card.

I was looking at this one (I'm in Australia and it's either eBay or local IT shops):

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-ATi..._Components&hash=item19c5f77a3f#ht_1134wt_936

I'm wondering, will this fit in the tower? Do I need to specifically look for a low-profile graphics card? Thanks in advance.

Ok,
So I have a good graphics card that I would like to put into use. I bought it a few years ago but the computer where it was installed died and it costs around 300 to fix it.
So,

I already have a laptop for my everyday needs, but I want to play some games.

so..
Should I spend around 300 on a Desktop and install the graphics card.. OR if what I want is to play, should I get a gaming Console instead (like xbox, or ps3 etc)?
What should I do?

A:Desktop or console?

Well it depends, what kind of games are you looking to play and what resolution/quality settings are you planning on running them at? What kind of video card is it? For $300 are you looking to build or buy a pre-built system?

I personally would recommend PC gaming, the control you have over the games you play is far superior to consoles. Also graphics CAN be a lot better on a PC if it's powerful enough. It really just comes down to preference.

I am coming to my TechSpot family for some advice I realize that this may not be the realm of experience for the majority of us due to the nature of the specific need but I decided to give it a shot Long story short My son will be entering community college this fall and will be pursuing an A A degree in Digital Design and then move on to a year institution he has been accepted into Drexel University in Philadelphia but my wife and I don t have thousand The core courses he will be doing are Color amp D Design Graphic Design Art with Computers Web Graphics amp Digital laptop? desktop or degree: design Animation and Digital design degree: desktop or laptop? Web Page Design I do know he must Digital design degree: desktop or laptop? have access to Adobe Flash CS and there will be animation software involved but I have not been able to find out anything else -- I ve tried I doubt Digital design degree: desktop or laptop? he ll be doing D Rendering during this time and even if he does the college s systems will have to do So it looks like he will mostly be doing D Illustration Animation I am going back and forth of a either building a good solid home system his current one is a year old socket with an Athlon single core cpu and XP Pro and getting him a mid-range laptop OR b putting the money into a laptop with an i processor - gigs of RAM and a dedicated card In my opinion Option A makes more sense because I will build in order to upgrade as needed but as my son has pointed out to me that in two years he will be moving on and dorm life isn t actually ideal for a PC system whereas a laptop would be The problem with the latter is that no matter how powerful a current laptop is the ability to upgrade is much easier with a PC system Also laptops can get stolen much easier plus repairing a desktop is something I can do It may sound like I have my mind up but I don t Thoughts please and recommend me some hardware I have no budget in mind at this point but I am thinking even a mid-range desktop would more than suffice Thanks nbsp

A:Digital design degree: desktop or laptop?

Well, for digital imaging you really should have an IPS monitor. That said, unless you're going to spring for a Macbook Pro, I don't definitely know what other lappies have them.

Other than that, I was in Phila Community College a few years back, and one of the security guards was robbing high end photo imaging and computer equipment from the labs. Maybe your area, has a better class of individual.

The school terminals left something to be desired also, can't speak to nowadays though.

Personally, I wouldn't spend more for a laptop than I could afford to lose. But, I have the luxury of not even really needing the $300.00 Celeron laptop I have. That sort of nulls the validity of my opinion.

Anyway, if you decide to go for a home machine, look at the Intel Core i5-2500 as a basis. PC World Magazine tested a couple of souped up desktops with that CPU. They turned in "World Bench" scores of over 200!

(Granted you have to have been following "World Bench" test scores for a while to have the s*** impressed out of you like I did.

however i cannot find ANYTHING at all
it is one of the all-in-ones desktop
VGC-JS410F series
can anyone help with this

also id like to say sorry if i posted this in the wrong section if thats what iv'e done

A:Help with Vaio desktop

Any additional harware you purchase will simply connect internally or plug in to any of your USB connections. A Blu-ray drive or bluetooth adapter should not be a problem it is only when you want to fit PCIE cards or graphics card that you need to check a few other factors.

What exactly do you need to know, most extra hardware just plugs in.
