Accessing HDD via USB

Q: Accessing HDD via USB

I need help accessing my IDE HDD connected via USB SATA/IDE hdd adapter (model usb-dsc9). This HDD was my primary on an old computer running Win7 and still has all the files. I am currently running Win8.1.

The HDD shows in My Computer as a removable disk, with an auto-assigned letter. When I try to open it, I am told to "please insert a disk". It is showing in device manager as USB mass storage device with no errors. It is also listed in disk management under my primary hdd. The hdd is powered by the adapter and I can hear it spinning.

Any help is appreciated,
Nick

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have joined a computer (PC1) to a domain control server (2008), and user able to login using their domain user account - although recently I have found out that even though the computer (PC1) do not connect to a server, user still able to access using their domain account.
Is there a way for me to restrict domain account user from accessing the computer (PC1) if they are disconnected from server?
Hope my explanation make sense to you guyz.

Thank in advance

A:Prevening domain user from accessing Computer

Lots to be considered. Joining a domain is intended to give the company admin configuration control of all the company users.
This is normal, expected and even proper for the company to do this.

restrict domain account userClick to expand...

hmm; only the company admin should be able to do this and almost always it is done using some scripts, NOT by loggin into your PC. So - - who is accessing your PC remotely, the admin - - how do you know this occurs?

PCs joined to a domain usually get a replacement for PC Login - - the network form and that creates a link to the domain controller.

Trying using one or all of these Chrome, Maxthon, Opera, IE, Fire Fox try all these browser do you get the same results. If just one browser causing this issue uninstall the browser in re-install it. If it's IE then, clear out the system. Ping the the site your trying to get too from that browser. Does it time out..

A:Problem In accessing micro SD

Connect you card to your machine. Then go to command prompt (run->cmd->enter) and enter this command; chkdsk /f X:
Replace the name of your card drive with X in above command.
If this helped, so OK, if not, try recover your data, using a good recover tool, and then discard that sd card!

I have a Dell desktop with wifi. It can see the AP (very strong signal), but it cannot access the internet ("limited conductivity"). I tried cycling power on the modem and AP which helped temporarily. Reboot does nothing. There are 3 other notebooks that have full access to the internet thru wifi to the same AP and cable modem.

The Dell has Vista op sys, and I've run thru all the diagnostics with no real solution. This pc normally uses a wired connection with no problem.

What should I look at to get this going?

Thx

Hi I optical drives Accessing external on computer? have a Dell Dimension which recently died of a failed motherboard It has two optical drives a floppy and a zip And yes I still sometimes find I need to access data off an old floppy or zip I would like to salvage these media drives for use Accessing optical drives on external computer? with my Toshiba laptop I know I can buy external enclosures Accessing optical drives on external computer? for the drives but with four of them the cost will begin to add up Plus I don t even know if enclosures for internal floppies and zips exist I was wondering if it would be possible to connect the laptop directly to the dead Dell and access the drives Although the motherboard is no good the power supply seems to be fine Basically the old Dell would be functioning as large powered enclosure for multiple drives If so how would I go about it I already have an Ativa data transfer USB cable if that helps Thanks H nbsp

A:Accessing optical drives on external computer?

No, you can't do what you are asking.

Does your Toshiba have an optical drive? If so you'd only need to buy an adapter/enclosure for the zip and floppy, but really I think it probably would cost the same just to buy ones that are already external rather than something to turn your internals to externals.

Hi,

I have been using a Eminent Network Media Tank with a built-in WD 1TB hard drive that is FAT32 for some time now. As I have some new content I want to add to it I connected it to my notebook. I installed the drivers from the Eminent CD to make windows recognize the drive (a program called IFS drives was installed into the configuration screen). In the my computer screen I can now see the drive with the disk letter I appointed to it (Z) but when I try to open the drive windows says: "Dirve Z is not formatted, do you want to format the drive now?". Evidently I don't want to format the drive, I just want to access it and add new data. Does anyone know why windows says this and (more importantly) how I can achieve my goal without formatting?

Thanks in advance!

I'm having a strange problem with my main computer. I can log onto AOL and read my e-mail, but I can't open websites. I get a "navigation to the webpage was canceled" message. I've tried various remedies but nothing has worked. The connection is fine, the hardware is fine. I did recently discover a quirk, however...if I go to a saved link to a login page requesting a password, it not only opens that page, it allows me to continue to use that site once I've entered the password. I only have two such links, so there are two sites I can still access.

Any suggestions? I'd rather not have to wipe the thing and start over... Thanks!

XP operating system, protected disk area . . .

I want to access files in the XP NTFS System (Protected Area). If I do a "Restore" for any reason, I get everything in the factory-supplied partition, which is a nuisance. Periodically, all I want to do is go into the protected area for a file or two. I do not need a whole lot of junk that I will subsequently delete once the "Restore" is completed (such as "Try & Buy", eg, Corel, etc.). The so-called "options" restore menu is ridiculously small and hasn't anything worth restoring from it. I need a comprehensive list of stuff in the 10gig partition. I have an 80gig drive, 10 gigs used for the system itself. Can I use a function to at least do a "copy & paste" from this area?

If you're report is correct, then likely that you are discovering a nearby neighbor's router with the same ssid.

you should use a wire connect, access the router and change the ssid to something
person (ie not the default) AND the admin password. Save and restart the router.

I have an oldish PC (circa 2000) which has died.

It ran Windows ME. The HDD is Seagate. [40GB Seagate St340823A]

I am wondering if I can salvage the HDD, at least to the extent of recovering some data from it.

I realise that one way would be to take another PC, and to add the drive in there.

But I was wondering if it is possible to buy an external hard drive and to use that instead.

Ideally, I'd like to know if there are any which come with spare space which can be easily used.

But failing that, how easy would it be to take the HDD out of an external drive, then temporarily insert the HDD from the old PC (so as to retrieve data) and then put the external drive back to its original condition?

Thanks

A:Problem accessing file on Integral 128Mb Flash Drive

I would treat the flash drive as suspect from here on in. Take it back to the machine where you saved it to the drive and open it there - if you can do this it may only have been a permissions issue but if you can, try another drive. You might recover the drive with a format once you have your file safe.

Hi
I have a Belkin wireless router, l have 2 PC's connected to it and both cant get into selected sites - UK lottery being just one of many

Can anyone tell me if there are any settings in the router that can be altered to allow access to sites that l cant currently get in to

Both PC's worked fine before going wireless now both have the same problem - I have set IE settings to the minimum on everything but it makes no difference so l am assuming it has something to do with the router settings

Thanks in advance

A:Problem Accessing Some Sites Via Belkin

Can you check that you definitely have a connection by going to another site that you have never visited before? Sometimes it can seem like the connection is working, when actually its just getting the pages from your cache. (Although, if you posted that message from one of the PC's then you definitely have a connection).

If you are definitely connected, but you can't see some specific sites, I would struggle to help. If you don't have any software that might be interfering (pop up blockers / firewall / virus / spyware / adware / cookie blocker / any software that basically blocks a site if it doesn't like something about it), then its most likely a setting in the router. I once had that issue and someone fixed it for me, but I forgot what its called... If I remember, I'll post back.

Have a server laptop on running LogMeIn with my computer harddrive shared to it. When i am at school and i connect to Logmein the shared drive shows up. What i was wondering is: is it possible to leave a harddrive powered up and shared but the rest of the computer powered down?
Yes i know it sounds like a very strange question but if it is possible it will save a lot of power.

Help with Remote Access/Software for.

I frequently help my friends fix their computers. Is there any software/capability to be able to run a firewire/ethernet cable to their pc and access their computer. I'm sure there is software out there I am just not sure of it. All suggestions would be helpful. I am to the point where it would be easier with the amount of computers i work on, to hook up my laptop to access there stuff.

thanks,

HUnter

I have replaced an NT primary domain controller with a server I still have an Nt server as an application server and NT server 4 Domain in accessing 2003 a as a Backup Domain Controller It has been running fine until I add a new user that was never in the old domain Any new users that get added cannot authenticate to the NT server All the previous users were already in the accessing NT 4 server in a 2003 Domain BDC when I change over I cannot figure out why I can authenticate as Administrator and any old users I have sp a loaded someone said this would help and have even added the new users to the Domain Admin group but still nothing I cannot upgrade the Nt server as the application is an ERP system that is run throughout the company and I am told will not be supported in anything other than the NT environment If I add users on the NT first it updates the PDC just fine but I still can t access the shares Any Ideas Rdb nbsp

A:accessing NT 4 server in a 2003 Domain

Try demoting the NT4 server so it is no longer a DC and integrating it through DNS into your network.

Because your NT4 server is PDC, there is alot to do in order to keep the NT4 server as a DC and integrate it into a Server 2003 Schema AD network.
It is really not worth doing to be honest! Your NT4 server should run fine as a server, but not as a DC within your Server 2003 environment.

Hello I have trouble accessing my Linksys Router model wrt54g. I don't remember changing the password and I try typing in admin for the user and none for the password. Thank you for your help.

A:Help with accessing my router

The typical router user/passwords for linksys are:

user/admin:

admin/admin
admin/
admin/pass
/admin
/pass

If need be, you can reset your router to factory defaults by holding down the "Reset" button located on the back of the device.

I don't know why this is happening, but maybe someone can help. I have a HP dv8000 laptop running wireless through a linksys router. Most programs that need to connect (AVG, Spybot, iTunes, etc.) keep telling me that my network is not available. I don't have this trouble with the same programs on my desktop. Another example is that most games (except CounterStrike, for whatever reason) won't connect in multiplayer mode. Any ideas??

Thanks in advance-

A:Problem with programs accessing the net

Make sure you don't use third party software for wireless connection. Use XP Wireless connection is faster.

Those a drops you're getting with the wireless connection either it coming from the router or something is making it happen. Micowave 2.4Ghz wireless phone things like that...

A:Accessing printer on different subnetwork

This is a VPN issue. BY DESIGN, the VPN will take over the default route and send everything (browser, email and share access) to the remote VPN server.

This is done to protect the VPN server environment from the local host being accessed via one of it's shares or other NIC card.

I am new to this site, so please forgive any rookie mistakes. I recently bought a new computer to upgrade from my old one. The old computer then proceeded to completely break on me. I took out the old computer's hard drive and then installed it as a slave in the new computer. Now I am trying to access my files in it. The problem is that the folder I need to get into is the user profile folder in Documents and Settings (I have Windows XP) which says access is denied. Is there a way I can open it and get around whatever type of protection is on the folder? Thanks.

I don't want to CLEAR the temp folder, that's the LAST thing I want to do.

Watched a video online from a website, forgot the website, but when it downloads a big video, it must save it to the temp folder.

I want to keep this video, along with a couple extras, so the question is, how do I extract this video from the temp files and onto my HD as a readable video format such as AVI/MPG, etc.??

Thanks very much for your time,
N

A:Accessing Firefox temp folder

Normally you don't save files from the Temp folder.
Actually it's not even advised to do ie corruptions so forth

You are best to save the data (movie, whatever) directly from the site you found it on
Now there are many programs to do this with (a lot are not free, depending upon what site etc)

The temp folder can be limited in size, and you are best to clear it regularly

Run CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading to clear up not required temp files

A:Accessing folders/files of Password protected User account in Win XP

Try this on your other pc with the laptops hard drive connected:

Use an Administrators account:

(1)
open my computer and from top menu select tools >Folder options > View :

Then scroll to the bottom of the list in window and UNTICK "Use simple file sharing (recommended)"

click apply at the bottom and apply to all folders at the top and click ok:

In my computer note the drive letter of your problem hdd then run: "chkdsk D: /r"
where "D" is the drive letter of your problem hdd.

Let the process finish (might take a long time).

When diskcheck has finished open the drives and go to the folders that you want to access (dont try to open them yet)!

(2)
Right click on the folder and select properties then select security tab at the top,
Click the owner tab at the top
then in the change owner to section click to highlight the "Administrators (........)administrators"
(.....just means some chars)
tick "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and apply. then ok to exit that window.
In the properties window that is still open, Highlight the "Administrators" and Tick the "Full Control" tickbox under "allow" Apply and OK to close the window.

You should now now have full control any data in that folder. Repeat step (2) for all the folders you want to get information from. You can also perform step (2) on individual files if you still cant access them.

If this does not work I'm sure someone else will suggest recovery method for you
let us know your progress please.

that shouldn't matter much all she has to do is send you a remote desktop invitation for remote assistance.. you can learn all about remote desktop assistance here.. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/rmassist.mspx
now the other thing that you can do instead of having to worry about sending and recieving the invitations is buy a software program for remote desktop help called Net Monitor for employees.. i use it hear instead of having to do the windows remote version..you can get that here http://www.simtel.net//product.php[id]88542[cid]206[SiteID]simtel.net

I got it working.

The problem was with folder ownership and permissions. The folders I was trying to access were owned by "system" instead of by me. I changed the owner, and now it works, but only after clicking "continue" on all the warning popups several times.

Both linux and mac have a better security system IMO.

Hi,

Having an issue with a windows box, so I figured I'd install a parallel system and backup the data. On the original, the directory is "private".

When I go to access it from the new partition, I get "access is denied". I tried what is suggested in http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-8862-Accessing-a-private-folder.html , to no avail.

Is there any way to access this info from XP?

Thanks,
J.

A:Accessing NTFS from another drive/install

Do you have XP Home or Pro? If Pro, (at least I dont think it's in Home) then from an explorer window, go to TOOLS>Folder Options...>View. Scroll down the advanced settings to deselect "Use simple file sharing.(Recommended)". Click OK.
Then right click on the folder your having problems with, select properties, security tab, and click add, to add the user everyone and give them full control. And click okay.... see if that works.

A:TSPIP.sys crash when accessing VPN (remote desktop)

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

All your minidumps crash at TDI.SYS. This your Windows TDI Wrapper driver. They all have a bugcheck of D1.

0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article.)
The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.

Update your system to the latest Windows service pack.

Also, go HERE and follow the instructions for testing your ram/hdd/page file.

A friend of mine has managed to "lock himself out" of the original Administrator account of his own XP Pro machine.

Story: He decided to password his machine, but rather than password the original Administrator login he had been using, he opted to create a new user, also titled Administrator with his new password. Now he cannot get back into the original Administrator account, so cannot access his documents etc etc. When he boots up in Safe Mode, he can see the original account, but on logging in normally he cannot access this account. It does not show up on the Welcome Screen.

Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Cheers chaps!

Long story:

I have a HP notebook w/ XP Home installed
I partitioned it with PM V8 into C & D
I tried to make a image of D using DI 2002, couldn't access the image even though I could access the drive. Gave up, I don't like XP anyway.
I reformatted C durning a fresh 2k install and installed drivers.
I imaged C again still using DI 2002,
I STILL can'r access the image file on D

Is it because D was partitioned when the O/S was XP even though it is now 2k?

Hope that made sense.

I have an ASUS netbook running Windows 7 starter. I want to put Linux on it, but I am not able for some reason to access the BIOS. Is there any particular reason you can't access the BIOS from Windows 7 starter? Could there be any other reasons why the normal method of accessing the BIOS doesn't work? If so is there any way round them?

A:Difficulties Accessing BIOS to Alter Dedicated VRam

I don't think Nvidia GTS 450 is an on-board GPU, and I can't see anything in motherboard support site either. You won't find any way to change dedicated memory in BIOS.

Check your motherboard manual's BIOS section for which key to press to enter BIOS.

You can just get a newer GPU like GTX960 which will be a good upgrade. But I will let others to comment.

Edit: By the way, these are the minimum requirement for Elder Scrolls Online

Quote:
Minimum System Requirements
Operating System: Windows XP 32-bit
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
Memory: 2GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with 512MB of RAM (NVIDIA? GeForce? 8800 / ATI Radeon™ 2600 or better)
Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

Your GPU should be able to run it. Try reducing the graphical options.

Hello all,

Over the weekend it seems that one of my Windows 7 computers here where I work lost connectivity with our file server.

Workstation:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Pentium Dual Core
3GB RAM

Server:
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64
Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB RAM

It never had issues connecting with the share before now. Now every time I try to connect it to the share, it tells me that the password for the account is invalid. As the account for the workstation had no encrypted or protected files on the server, I just went and reset the password to make sure it hadnt gotten changed some how. This however did not fix the issue. The computer is able to access the internet and see that the server indeed exists on the network, but for what ever reason is not able to access the share any longer.

Any ideas?

Ive used windows media player to access a favourite site for several years with no problems.
Two days ago when I tried to access the site I got...  'Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file'..

Earlier that morning several windows updates were installed..thinking that might be the prob I deleted them..wasn't the prob.

Checked all settings etc everything seemed ok.
Checked firewall.
Ran Malware bytes and Ccleaner.

Tried several   other players ..same result..no access.
I checked with others who use the site and no one else had a prob.
Did system restore..that didn't help.
Refreshed my computer and did all the updates..no luck.

So I am absolutely stumped and hope you can point e to some  setting or something that Ive overlooked  that might resolve the problem :D

A:media players not accessing streaming site

The only thing I didn't see mentioned was rebooting. I'm going to assume that you had to do several in order to do all that you have listed.
Is this the first time you have accessed the site using W8 as your operating system? Were the other users who mentioned 'no problem' also running W8? Have you checked the media site to see if there is an updated codex available for W8?

So I've had this toshiba external for some time now.  When I first started using it, it was fast and I could access my files and folders without much wait time.  I had changed the letter (path) of the drive from the usualy F to Z and after doing so, it made accessing the drive much slower so I changed it back to F thinking that was the reason but it's still really slow.  When I try to open a folder, it will take 5-10 seconds to open and has the loading icon next to the mouse for the duration which used to not happen before.  Anyone know what it could be?

I was trying to check whether I have the SOFTWARE and SECURITY files in accessing when warning folder system message config 32. Renable from C windows system config When I try to click on the config folder it displays a warning message telling me if I should go into that folder and of course I said continue and yes and whatnot Now everytime I try to access that folder there is no warning message anymore Basically I want that warning message re-enabled How do I do that The reason why I was checking for something like that is because there is always a blue screen during a chkdsk scan with error code c with a registry file failure that involves these files so I want to check Renable warning message when accessing config folder from system 32. if it is missing or not I forgot what the warning message said so I decided to do the same thing on my windows laptop It basically says you don't have permission to access this folder with the option to continue or not Renable warning message when accessing config folder from system 32. I basically want that message to popup again when I try to access that config folder on my windows vista laptop If I click continue I would have permanent access to this folder which I probably should not have done so I want to know how to go back to the way it was before where when I try to access the folder there is this popup message saying if I should have permanent access to this folder I checked the ownership of that folder on my windows laptop and the owner is SYSTEM Does changing the ownership to SYSTEM re-enable that popup message when I try to access that folder The one on my vista laptop says that config folder belongs to administrators

Dead silence on this one.  I guess after all the testing I did no one knows more than that?
I hope someone knows more than I do, I am stopped.

A:0x50 - Overcame now no Networking or accessing SQL Server Database

That error usually relates to a driver or RAM issue.
Have you connected any new hardware recently?
If so, uninstall and reinstall that to see if that solves it.
If not, do a RAM check with memtest. You can download memtest from http://www.memtest.org/#downiso.
I have recently had this error on a computer and it turned out to be a faulty stick of RAM.

I can't access virustotal.com and some other sites very similar to it that I can't remember the name of. When I go to virustotal.com it used to say something like ssl error. Now it's just a white page wich has apparently loaded fully. I'll include a gyazo screenshot link.

What's keeping me from accessing websites like these. Is it a trojan? Malware? I remember I was recently infected but I removed the trojan with anti malware bytes.
