Samsung Notebook Battery Won't Power Notebook

Q: Samsung Notebook Battery Won't Power Notebook

My wife has a two-year-old Samsung notebook. Recently when she unplugged it the machine cut off, even though the battery said 79% charged (it wouldn't charge any further). I figured that the battery was bad so I bought another one from Amazon.

This one charges to 100% percent and does exactly the same thing. I'm perplexed but think there's something going on with the motherboard that won't let it use battery juice, even if Windows 8.1 says it's 100% charged.

I've tried the hold the power button down for 1 min with the battery out trick to no avail.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and think I might need to get her another notebook.

Thanks, Robert

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This might be fixable through the OS or it might be peculiar to my notebook (ASUS G74SX).

I am seeing my notebook while on the battery just shutting off as its power level reaches a certain threshold. There is no forced entry into a sleep or hibernate mode as a user would want. It's an abnormal shutdown.

Moreover, the shutoff is occurring at something like 20% power level.

Do I need another application to watch battery power or to do a better job of managing a forced entry to sleep or hibernate?

It seems like it was properly going to sleep mode before but this has changed.

One other complication: ASUS bundles its own applications and utilities. One of these is the power management control panel utility called Power4Gear Entertainment.

I have never really understood why ASUS provides this if the MS Win 7 environment has profiles too. Should I uninstall this ASUS extra?

Hello mavi you wrote this
It seems like it was properly going to sleep mode before but this has changed.

Now you could try a scannow for corrupted files SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I am also wondering if you have done any malware scans because if it was working and now has left you with this. Try the sfc first then these < download from bleeping computer

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501) runs XP Home SP3 and this is what I got at the link provided.

We're sorry, but your operating system is not supported by Microsoft Fix it at this time.Click to expand...

Any idea what that is about? Perhaps my Firewall (Comodo)? No popup from it.

Not a biggie for me as I'm somewhat skeptical of anything automatic MS comes out with. But I am curious as to why my system is not supported by MS Fix.

Hi there I just installed Windows on a friend's laptop she was using Windows XP and wanted to upgrade The laptop is a Samsung p model - years old but definitely still works perfectly fine The graphics card is an ATI Radeon or approximation - I had the exact model earlier but she's since taken her laptop home On installing Windows all of the drivers on a notebook Windows VGA Samsung 7 drivers that automatically installed worked perfectly fine but the VGA drivers Windows insists that the best driver I can get for Windows 7 VGA drivers on a Samsung notebook the laptop is a generic video driver or something in not as many words It basically means that the highest resolution I can get is x and the transparency doesn't work The coverflow features on iTunes doesn't even work and it was fine on XP I went to the Samsung website and they don't supply Windows drivers for this particular laptop i'm not sure whether it's due to the laptop being pretty old or Windows installing the drivers automatically I tried the Windows Vista driver but the download is a piece of software that checks your driver to see if it is the best one available and it didn't seem to actually do anything when running It's not the biggest issue in the world and I understand if there is just no Windows driver for this graphics card its just a pain in the to be stuck on a low res I can always roll her back to XP just defeats the point of upgrading and no I won't subject her to Vista p Any help is appreciated massively D

I am ok with computers but not very technical so if you could explain things and describe what I have to do it would be good

A:Need help installing windows 7 on a Samsung notebook

The simplest, most direct way would be to use an external USB DVD drive. You will need to access the Boot Options in the BIOS to set the computer's boot order to USB as the first choice. Once you do that you can boot from the recovery disk and proceed with the restore.

Have you tried to do a restore from the hdd using what Samsung refers to as "Recovery Solution 4"? From the Samsung website here: (scroll down to the sections describing how to do a restore) It seems that you should press F4 when you first see the Samsung logo to access "Recovery Solution 4".

I recently had to replace a hard drive in a Samsung notebook running Win 7 64 bit, I reinstalled the operating system from the restore disk, but that was all that was on the disk, no drivers at all, I located the Samsung web site driver downloads site, I have downloaded the chipset drivers and vga drivers, but I've no idea if I have done this properly, as up to now the display still looks like it is running in safe mode. Any help would be gratefully accepted.

A:Trouble re-installing win 7 on Samsung notebook

You need to get your display driver from the manufacturer website. Click on start and in the search box type "device manager" scroll through all your devices and see if you have a small yellow exclamation point anywhere. If you do, that is a driver that you need to get. Search for your computers display driver first in order to get your hd graphics. What is the make and model of your computer?

Hi all.
My Samsung Notebook 300e has decided to stop booting.
I have tried to start it with the Samsung recovery solution 5 But it just goes to a please wait screen and nothing happens.
If I select any form of safe mode, it will load the files and then go to a black screen with some writing along the top - Windows Version Build: 7601 SP1 Safe Mode. And the cursor appears, but nothing else will load.
I have tried restarting dozens of times with every different option. Any ideas?

A:Laptop not booting - Win7 OA - Samsung Notebook

I think my first step would be to check out the hard drive using either diagnostics built into the bios or a bootable CD with something like Seatools for DOS. If the drive is on it's way out all other attempts to boot or repair are ultimately futile and it's time to get started on file recovery.

Seems like it started after loading Norton. The touchpad works, but wont let me select anything with the left or right buttons. I have put in a usb mouse and that seems to work. The buttons work when I am in safe mode. What would cause it to not work in normal Win 7? To be specific, the pad seems fine, the buttons do not work in Win 7. Removed Norton and the problem was still there. Obviously some setting I am not aware of when the full operating system loads. Thanks for any help!

Make sure if you install windows, that you completely format the drive, So that all the partitions are gone (or at least a clean partition to install windows on.)

Otherwise you could try activating the installation within (asuming) windows xp. and install it that way.

Does a notebook battery lose charge even when the machine is turned off?
For example, it was at 100% when I turned it off and removed the AC adapter.
Less than 24 hours later, I turn it on, and the battery indicator says 65%.
I've only had the laptop for a week, and this is the second time the charge has significantly decreased while off. The first time, the battery was completely dead after being fully charged, removed, and not used for 2 days.
Another time, I charged to full and rebooted. The battery showed 95% upon restart. I can't believe it would use that amount to power up.
Is my battery a dud?

Can someone tell me about notebook batteries. I leave my battery in the notebook all the time I am currently just using it home - so I am using the ac adapter. I am currently using several hours a night working on a project for work. Will this decrease the life of my battery? Should I take out the battery until I need it? And would you recommend a extended warranty. The salesman told me it covers the battery, lcd monitor.

A:notebook battery

normally from my experience, the way the laptop will work is that it always uses the battery and when you plug in the adapter this just charges your battery as you use it!
So the laptop wont work without the battery in!

This in the long run will decrease the battery but no more so than it would in normal running situation.

Depending on what you plan on using the laptop for and ofcourse how much the laptop costs and how much the extra warrenty is!

So I recently bought a Samsung Notebook, Model Code: NP-RV515. It came installed with the 32-bit version of windows starter so naturally I went on to try and install the 62-bit version of Windows Ultimate. Unfortunately, my network drivers were lost and upon trying to install new drivers from the manufacture site a prompt appeared telling me that "The Device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system". A:HP notebook battery problem

That's an older model notebook, you could attempt to call into hp and see if someone there will run a "battery Diagnostic" test. IF your out of warranty.... they might want to charge you. Dont pay for it.

You could also try to see if an update is available for you BIOS, this could also cause "low battery life" on an already fully charged battery

With your machine running XP, im not sure if yours had it then, search the computer for the HP total care advisor, if you have that, run a battery check in there, it will let you know if it needs replacing.

When I bought this laptop a few months ago, the salesperson advised removing the battery when operating with cord plugged in. She said it would cut down on the heat generated.  I wonder if this is advisable.  If I remove the battery, I'll lose whatever I'm working on.  I have noticed that it gets warm, but not terribly so, and inconveniently, the vents are on the same side as the mouse. Where I live, it's not unusual for the power to flash off for a second or two if a storm is coming.  We have most of our serious electronics plugged into backup batteries, just for that purpose.  Unfortunately, we don't have one for the laptop yet. I wonder if anyone out there has thoughts on this issue?  I would appreciate the feedback.

I have an HP 530 notebook PC running Windows Vista Home Basic. The problem is if I unplug the the mains adaptor, the machine just cuts out after a few mins - no warning, no self shut down, nothing. Just dead.

It's not an overheating problem as you can leave it on for days and will work on mains. Even if you start it from cold on battery, it will die in a few minutes.

The battery appears to be charging normally and is nowhere near empty when it cuts out.

Not sure if it's maybe a software problem?

Any thoughts welcome!

Unfortunately batteries don't last forever. If you have recently bought this laptop then you may be able to do something under its warranty. If it is a few years old or out of warranty then you can buy a replacement battery.

Once they go they go, sadly.

I have a Dell D400 notebook and recently bought a new battery. The toolbar icon shows its power reducing fine from 100% to about 40%, but then it suddenly goes to warning at 8% very quickly. Why is this?

One possible clue. I used to have two batteries that both went to about 20 mins life (I know Dell batteries have a reputation). I read that letting them drain all the way, beyond the 'low power' warnings could help so I did that. One of them died completely (dead, kaput, nada) while the other one now holds a reasonable amount of power and the toolbar icon gives an accurate reading.

My year old Averatec c3500 notebook was stored for a couple months. When I started it the main battery was empty (of course). and the clock icon showed time/date that was way off. I considered this probably normal.

Now when I store the PC for even three days the clock needs to be reset, although the main battery seems to still have at least a negligible amount of power left (will show a short slideshow of photo's.)

I have two questions:
1. Is there a small CMOS battery that might need replacing ? and does that battery get recharged from the main battery? Where would that be located ?

2. What is the best way to refresh my main battery? I have opinion if I totally discharge/recharge it will come back to total storage.

-with the dvd drive it seems the whole thing, including the lens and the mechanical parts and the tray, needs to be pulled out in order to put a disc in, what happened with the old days where you have you have a dock with a tray loading dvd drive? wouldn't the lens gets more easily damaged with so much exposure to the outside?

-can the notebook still power on with only the power supply plugged in, minus the battery?
thanks for the help.

A:can notebook pc function without a battery?

Yes. I run my notebook without the battery on AC most of the time at home. Keeping the battery away from heat will lenghten battery life in the long run. I used to keep the battery in while on AC and battery life was less than a year. I now leave it out and the battery is still good over a year and a half coming up to two years old. Most laptops today are well built, especially Fujitsu, Acer and Asus. A Fujitsu laptop has been up on Mount Everest. Some laptops have a slot loading CD/DVD tray (trayless). But I never had a problem with trays with the 2 laptops I have owned. If you are concerned about durability outdoors then consider the Panasonic Toughbook series which are used by the military in Iraq.

Do I let it discharge completely before recharging? Or just charge it when I'm not using the thing? And other proceedures that should be followed to make it last as long as possible.

Also, should I leave the battery in the notebook when it's not in use and it's convienent for me to take it out (like when I'm at home sleeping or something?)

Thank you so much! =D I really appreciate your help on the questions I've had in the past and now.

I am getting a new Westinghouse Digital notebook for Christmas. I know because I the techie in the family that had to be sure it worked before sending in the rebate. It comes with a lithium-ion battery. the same technology as the SONY batteries that have exploded in some notebooks. This battery was made by Panasonic not SONY so I feel kinda safe with it.

Does anyone know of battery suppliers that might have a replacement battery using a different technology like NiMH.

I have a brand new Compaq Presario 906 Notebook. It's a pretty nice machine...but it fails to accomplish the one thing notebooks should -- run off the battery.

No matter how long I charge the battery using the AC adapter, the meter in the system tray always reads between 15-20%. Also, if I unplug the AC adapter while the notebook is on, the power immediately shuts off. Curiously, I can sometimes turn the power on when the notebook's unplugged, so the battery doesn't appear to be completely useless. Even then, however, it never lasts more than thirty minutes.

Also, is there anything special involved with removing a laptop battery for examination, etc? Or does it just slide out?

Where do I start on this problem? Thanks for the help.

A:Notebook Battery Madness

Usually there is a button or a catch that releases the battery and it slides out. A new laptop should not have a defective battery, I would return it or ask for a new battery

Hey all, over the past few months I've been having a little bit of a problem with my Gateway Notebook's Battery. Whenever I plugged it in to be charged, it would only charge after I jiggled the plug which was inside the notebook a little bit. That was ok, but today the problem finally came to a head. After I left it alone to be charged, I came back to it and tried to unplug the adapter from the computer so I could move the notebook, but the plug into the notebook would not come out of the back of the laptop! I don't know what's wrong, but it is impossible for the plug to come out no matter how much force. I really don't know what's going on, but can anyone give me some pointers/guidelines? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Notebook Battery Problem

Not uncommon, the early symptoms should have been heeded.

The problem is likely to be a poor/broken connection where the power adapter socket connects to the motherboard. That has now overheated due to the resistance of the joint and high current flowing and welded the plug in.

It needs expert attention, as it is easy to destroy the motherboard at this stage if it is not too late.

Welcome to Seven Forums palmygav.

Does sound like a bad battery.
Have you made sure the interior battery connector is clean and not blocked?
Do you know someone that you can borrow a battery from for testing?
If not, then you can either take or send it for testing, or replace the battery.

Other issues.
Go to your laptop support page and load the bluetooth driver, appears that there isn't one.

Lots of "compatible" replacement batteries on eBay India: I could not find an original genuine battery on any of the India sites I know of. The compatible batteries are very attractively priced and generally reliable. I still try to buy genuine if I can for newer model laptops but have purchased compatible batteries quite frequently for older laptops where cost is an issue and have generally had a good experience.

Do any of you know what the typical overall battery life for notebooks are?

I'm having an issue with my Sony VAIO notebook that I purchased in 2001 where, despite it being fully charged, it only lasts for about 10-20 minutes off of the AC Adaptor. Must I simply buy a new battery or is there a problem with the notebook itself that requires further attention?

If a new battery is a must, any preferences among you (seeing as how you are all far more knowledgable than I)?

A:Notebook Battery Question

Battery life

Battery life per charge obviously various a lot between machines and the sort of usage it has. Around 2 hours should be expected. My Thinkpad does nearly three hours on average.

Bill_Ving Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wireless networking poor performance and wanted to help. My immediate guess is that you might have mixed-mode networking going on.  This happens when you have two different PCs networking in two different modes -- one using "G", the other using "N".  The wireless router (or access point) can optimize performance for either mode, but not for both.  So, the "G" mode drags down the performance of the "N" mode PC, but even worse, with the router set for mixed modes, it performs more slowly than with either PC connected by itself. Here are some other troubleshooting steps you can try: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8) | HP® Customer SupportGood Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------Please click "Accept As Solution" on the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution. Please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks fopr my help.========================================================================

A:Battery backup of HP Notebook - 15-af114au ?

Don't count on any laptop to give more than 6 hours of battery run-time, particularly an AMD with a 15 inch screen. That kind of runtime will only come from a laptop with a low-powered processor and a smaller screen. Marketing will claim extraordinary runtime, but cut in half what the hype says and it will be close to correct. Nobody would be touting this laptop as having a super-long battery runtime.

I recently purchased a Toshiba A60-S1591ST Satellite notebook. I also purchased a Garmin GPS 18 Deluxe sensor. THe battery pack life is short, about 30 minutes, when using the GPS sensor. I noticed that the battery pack has a different Toshiba part number (PA3384U-1BRS )than the battery listed in the Toshiba accessories catalog (PA3382U). Toshiba won't explain to me why there is a difference. They tell me to use the number in the catalog, and the battery that came with the laptop is satisfactory. The battery (PA3384U) is 14.8v, 4300mAh, the battery(PA3382U) is 14.8V, 6450mAh. I purchased an 150 inverter to run on when using the GPS unit. Is Toshiba being truthful with me? Do I have the right battery? Thanks

A:Determining proper notebook battery

The higher capacity battery (6450 mAh) was an optional extra on that model, not a standard choice according to the sales sheet.

So probably you do have the battery that was designed to be shipped with the unit.

There is nowhere (at least that I can find) to even choose to password protect the notebook let alone change the password. I'm pretty confused as to what password the notebook could be. A:HP Pavilion 15-N214TX Notebook Battery Issues

Perhaps, the manufactures has shipped you faulty battery. Consider placing an RMA order as it's still in warranty.

I have a Samsung N150 notebook with Win 7 starter.
It is not a battery fault because I have checked using a second exact same notebook with identical battery and both batteries charge fine to 100% (fully charged) wthout heating on the second notebook.

However both batteries overheat after 99% (charging) on the faulty notebook.

Never had battery charging problems until a week ago when I noticed that the battery was getting very hot.

Prior to this without exception it would charge up to 100% and indicate "fully charged" - with no heat.

Now it charges up to 99% and indicates "charging" instead. If I keep the charger plugged in after reaching 99% the battery gets hotter and hotter within ten minutes and never indicates "fully charged".

Why not use the other notebook? Because in other respects it is not as good as this one.

Hello to all, I'm new to this forum.
Start of with a topic what was published many times before, only not the same as in my situation. The crazy thing is, at every startup from Windows the battery icon runs the charge bar 5 times, and than it stops. At pointer it says: 0% available ( on main supply, battery is being charged) However, this does never change. Nomatter how long it charges.
BatteryBar does the same thing:
Procent 0,0 %
Capacity 0mWh of 43.568 mWh
Battery unknown (charging)
Charge 0 mW
Full time 1:17
Main supply connected
battery waist 18,2% of 53.280 mWh

Does anybody have the patience to shine a light on this drained topic. I feel, mines is different.
Would be highly apreciated.
Thanks in advance

A:Notebook battery don't charge while Win7 and BatteryBar say it does.

Hello 4thgo. Welcome to the Forum.

Please clarify:
The battery charges, but Windows & BB says it doesn't.
The battery does not charge, but Windows & BB says it does.

Is this the original battery and original power supply (charger)?

I have a gateway solo 2500 laptop and recently it has stopped running off the battery. The laptop shows the battery as being fully charged but it will not run off of it. It is a lithium Ion battery and so its expensive to replace. Is there any way of fixing batteries if they stop working?? can you suggest what might be wrong?? The laptop shows the battery as being charged, it recognises the battery fine and shows how much power is in the battery. It just wont run off the battery. It will not power up but it runs fine off the mains adapter.

My laptop suddenly stopped seeing its battery. It can't see the battery inserted into the slot anymore (when I run Battery Check it requires inserting battery into the slot). If you close mouse pointer to battery sign on the Toolbar, it says 'Plugged in and not charging', when you double-click on the battery sign, it says '100% fully charged'. Laptop is working fine via AC cord, but if you unplug the cord, it stops receiving power and shuts down. Very strange situation taking into account that the battery is resonably new, very hardly used. It has been working fine up until recently. Please help. Many thanks in advance. P.S. Laptop was bought in EU, so adapter is for Europe electricity standards. Problem occured when I moved to the USA and started using my laptom in here. Could the problem with battery happen because of this?

My G72B27Cl notebook has a problem to recharge the battery. At beginning, I thought it was the battery issue - too old to be recharged. After installed a new battery, the power run off fast from the battery and there was no sign to indicate the battery being recharged as usually. When the battery was detached and the computer totally dead even with the power unit on. Can this issue be fixed or I have to give up the comptor? Thanks for any suggestions.
