I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Okay so I have the Corsair Force GT Series 120GB SSD. Its port's are Sata 3 and well my motherboard is a MSI Pro-E long story short it does not have a sata 3 port. So my question is there anything out there I can buy that does have a sata 3 port like something that will hook on the PCI slot's or something. I basically dont wanna have to buy a new mother board but I still wanna get the amazing speeds because right now im getting half its peformance anyways please write back soon. If you give me a link to a product I prefer www.newegg.com and my max budget is $50.

You will need a free PCI-E slot. But this should get the job done.

Do you have any PCI-express slots available on your motherboard? Unless your PSU is really poor quality you don't need to upgrade just to support additional drives.

There's not much magic in USB expansion cards. The card you mention will work fine as long as your motherboard has an accessible PCI-e X1 slot

I upgraded the memory in a computer, booted up the computer and new memory was accepted. I shut down the computer and installed an SMC network card in a computer. I went to boot the computer up and I got three high pitched beeps, followed by a pause, then a low tone noise. Everything boots up except the monitor will not come on. I have taken out the additional memory I put in, have taken this computer completely apart and reassembled it and when I boot it up I still get the beeps and the monitor will not respond. I have double checked all the jumpers. Any clue to what this could be?

A:Installed Expansion Card

From that pattern, it sounds like a video problem.
Might be the Video Cards is loose in the socket. Take it out and try reinstalling it again. Also, check to see if there is any dirt/etc. on the contacts. An old trick is to use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts. Likewise, blow out any dust/etc. in system.

Also, does it work without the SMC network card installed?

Another possibility is that it got a static charge when you were installing the network card.If that happened, the only thing that you can do is replace it.

Hope this helps

The PCI card (Adaptec 29160N RAID) is 32-bit but the expansion slot on the motherboard (Super Micro P4DPR-6GM+) is 64-bit 66MHz PCI (3.3V). The card's POST doesn't show up during boot. Is this because it's 32-bit and the slot is 64-bit?

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread. I've created a new thread for your issue here. Thanks for your cooperation.

The USB expansion card is a Via Vectro vt USB card PCI expansion causes CMOS error that I scavenged from an old build whose motherboard fried when the cooling fan suddenly stopped working it was an OLD build CPU couldn't shut off automatically when the temp got too high and I know most boards have been able to do that for about years It was tested working in another PC emachines T its older than my little sister but it still works so I use it to test stuff I upgraded it from mb to mb of RAM which can comfortably run Windows with aero turned off although I do dual boot with Android x because PCI USB expansion card causes CMOS error why not so I PCI USB expansion card causes CMOS error know the card isn't broken The PC I'm trying to install it in PCI USB expansion card causes CMOS error is a Lenovo Thinkserver TS which I upgraded to gb RAM ECC of course I know I don't need enterprise grade stuff but I hate blue screens and corrupted files and put a TB Seagate Barracuda in When I put the USB expansion card into the PCI slot and press the power button it gives me a CMOS error beeps which means the card is incompatible with the BIOS This doesn't make sense to me because PCI-e the Lenovo is supposed to be software backwards compatible with PCI the expansion card How do I get it to work EDIT Its a full-size pcie so its not like I'm trying to stick a big card into a tiny hole

A:PCI USB expansion card causes CMOS error

Ah... you've transported us all back to the bad old days of the IRQ error (Interrupt ReQuest).

At that time there were only 15 IRQs and it was quite common to need to manually change a new device's IRQ position so that it did not conflict with another device, freezing the system.

Modern PCs use the APIC system which greatly expands the number of IRQs and reduces the possibility of conflicts.
But this system relies on Plug-and-Play devices to automatically configure the IRQs. That is why the vast majority of people reading this will have never heard of it.

Can you get into your BIOS settings with this card installed?

You could try the card in a different PCI slot if you have one. That would sometimes change the IRQ in older systems.

You might also try doing a ClearCMOS procedure with the card plugged in. That may force the system to reassign IRQs for all the P&P devices and free up whatever IRQ that old card insists it has to have.

I am working on an older MB, a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3. I want to use Sata 3 for connecting my SSD and hard drive. The only onboard SATA 3 connections are GSATA using a Marvell controller. I have read these are not very good and not as fast as Intel ICH10.

Do I need to buy an expansion card? If so, can anyone recommend one?

I am installing a PCI expansion card that provides a second LPT interface for attaching an external ZIP drive to a computer. The system currently has one LPT interface, using the standard IO assignments to which a printer is attached. I Followed ESD procedures to install the card. After I physically installed in the system and restarted, the computer locked up when the Windows GUI interface loaded. The computer runs Windows ME. Can anyone give me a list of steps I should take to isolate the cause of the problem.

@Dr_Saiful?, welcome to the forum. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the computer.  Beginning on Page 26 you will find the Workstation Specifications.  In the specs it says that two video cards can be used as long as the required wattage is no more than 150W.  I suspect that you may be exceeding the wattage of your power supply unit (PSU). Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

If I install the SATA card in my mb and make the SATA hd the primary master, will I still be able to use my IDE hd as a slave? Should I attach the IDE hd to its cable as the master (first connector) or slave (second connector) and just leave the first connector free?

I am wondering My wifes system is a pretty fast machine BUT older IDE hard drives not sata. I am wondering if adding a sata control card for my 160 sata 150 HD would benefit her or would getting another IDE drive be better idea . From my experience adding card to the pci slot(which most of the controls cards operate off of) is not faster than a on-board chip set . Also would there be any speed difference because of that. I mean yea I have a new sata drive but buying a $50 control card when I can get a 250 gig IDe hard drive for that price . BIG question IS it worth it?

Have a SSDIII drive with OS installed via a USB3 4 port PCIe expansion card with SATAIII ports.

Master OS drive is installed and working fine on the drive however is not showing up in BIOS for autoboot, so I have to manually press ESC to enter boot menu and select the SSD drive to boot which works fine.

Have checked all the BIOS advanced boot up devices can see all hard drives, USB drives, CDROMs and external USB drives but not the relevant SATAIII drive. I am presuming its due to the fact its on an expansion card and have not found a solution please help.

Plug the SSD into the first SATA port if you have one. Win7 is not meant to be installed on a USB drive.

How can i install the single sata drive in my comp.

A:Can't Install Sata Hard disk With PCI SATA controller card

Probably some fakeraid BS..
You have to enter the RAID BIOS and configure the drive as a RAID0 array or something similar. If it doesn't detect the drive in the RAID BIOS either, look over all your cables. Make sure you have power to the hard drive and suchlike.

I've put together a PC using parts (mostly) from a local used computer junkyard. The motherboard is an AOpen s651m running an Intel 2.8ghz chip.
I have a SATA DVD burner I'd like to add, but the mobo doesn't have any SATA connections, so I've considered adding a SATA/IDE PCI expansion card.

I would be interested in learning from anyone with experience adding one of these cards, if its do-able at all, if I need to add any special drivers to make it work, and any other pearls of wisdom. My OS is XP Home SP3.

Thanks in advance to all...

hi

my pc has an sata pci card (i dont really know the brand but the chipset is silicon image); it works fine except that it gets stuck when i tried to connect a big hard drive (750G) to it; if a 750G is connected to it, it just blinks before POST and I cant even get into BIOS, it works fine for drives <300G; I just wonder if it's possible to update the firmware of the card or something to make it see larger drives.

Thanks.

I just installed a Western Digital VelociRaptor 1 TB hard drive and did not gain any speed according to the Windows Experience Index of 5.9. I then purchased a HighPoint Rocket 620 PCI-Express 2.0 x1 SATA III (6.0Gb/s) Controller Card thinking that since my motherboard is not SATA III, that was the problem. Exact same results. I have an Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard which is not AHCI compliant. Could that be the problem? From what I have read, AHCI will make the drive hot-swappable but not increase the performance that much. I thought the 10,000 RPM drive alone would make a big difference. Are there better (free) tests that I can run besides the Windows Experience. It bothers me that I have invested all of this money and did not increase the index at all.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello!!

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I'm Trying to boot off a SATA HDD thats plugged into ALi SATA PCI add-on card. When i first installed the card and the HDD an option to view the SCSI Raid bios setup appeared after the POST. Once I copied the old IDE HDD onto the new drive using MaxBlast 4, this option dissapeared.

Now in windows XP when botted off the old IDE disk I can see the new hard drive as a second drive and it is an exact copy of the old drive.

But how once you have romoved the IDE disk from the system do you get the system to Boot off the new Drive.

Help!!!!

Thanks.

Hi everybody. I have a question a bit strange/or difficult! I'm using Dell Dimension E521. I have 4 (four) slots to add more RAM memory. I have it filled with 4 (four) 512 MB RAM modules. I have a feeling that I need a bit more. What can I do? My motherboard supports only 2 gigabytes all together. Wondering if there is anything I can buy (a link for the item please) to add another 2 gigabytes? It can be something what I can plug in to one of my USB outlets. Or do you think the existing 2046 MB of RAM memory is enough for me?
(How difficult would it be to install a different motherboard? I donít really understand what can I do with a Processor chip itself?)

i have a clone box...horrible thing!!! it had a power supply that blew...and i replaced the power supply
then it was freezing after a few minutes of operation...truly freezing clock didnt change

i narrowed it down to the front usb ports...in fact none of the usb seemed to work...and yes...i did check in the bios
and everything was enabled except legacy usb...but this didnt make a difference
as soon as i plugged usb in it froze

so i disabled USB and added a pci usb expansion card
now im getting unknown device usb errors and the big black usb icon in the task bar.

is the card still using aspects of the on board usb...or is it totally seperate...?
do you think the card is gone too?

any suggestions...please

My case has these two expansion ports in front, hidden behind removable plastic covers. There's metal grating over it (as you should be able to see below) but it looks like that could be snapped off really easily with a pair of pliers.

Here's a picture:
So, my question is, what can I put in these expansion ports? It looks like Zip drives and front-mounted USB ports would be too large. The only thing I can think of would be extra floppy drives, and who needs that in this day in age?

A:Solved: Mini Expansion Bays

these would also fit hdd's. Which is really what they are designed for. You can get 3 1/2" cards to go in them as well, such as front mounted usb, sound card outputs, etc. which is why they have the removeable metal and plastic covers. Yes if you wanted to, you could put a floppy drive in there as well

Here's my dilemma:

I have a generic $50 case, and no video card.

I am shopping for a cheap video card, so I can play some Half Life 2 type stuff.

before buying the card I tried to hook up a PCI network card, but there's no way to secure the card to the chassis with a mounting screw. I've messed around with video/sound/network cards many times before, but have never seen a case with no screws.

I've attached a pic of my expansion slots if it helps at all. As you can see there's no holes to screw a card down, and those funny looking clip things don't line up with anything.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but google can't even help me out cause I don't really know what I'm looking at, or what I need to fix this problem.

No the raid sata port need a raid driver and won't work with optical drives, you would be able to use the non-boot hard drive on it however and put the DVD drive on the standard sata port. Unless you already have the hard drives in a raid config.

I bought a SATA card in advance of buying a SSD. I wanted to make sure the card and the port worked OK. I did notice one thing that I found very unusual. When booting an additional screen shows up saying something like "PCI card found and is using so and so HD". In reply to: IDE Cable... by cgarrity

You have options....the first of which is to see if the one drive you are having difficulty getting seen is the Western Digital...because if it is, then it takes NO jumper to be seen as a 'stand alone' on the cable by itself with NO slave...otherwise it would be jumpered as either Master or CS.

Now...first go to Device Mgr and make sure that the PCI IDE card is being seen properly there. If you used the installation disk that came with it, it should be fine.

Hook the end of the cable closest to the center connector to the back of the drive itself and the 'motherboard' end into the PRIMARY IDE1 or PRIMARY IDE0 port (they are numbered IDE1 and Secondary IDE2 or IDE0 and Secondary IDE1) on the PCI IDE card.

Boot up the computer and see if the drive is seen. If it's not, then disconnect the motherboard end of your cdrom devices and hook the spare harddrive up to the motherboard with the cable you still have hooked to the drive. Since you are trying to get data off the drive and not installing programs, you won't need the cdrom devices for a little bit so eliminate them from the picture for now. Make sure that the harddrive has a MOLEX power connector attached to it (not trying to insult you, but I did this myself and lost about an hour pulling my hair out because I didn't have it seated tightly enough and bumped it right out without realizing it just recently).

Reboot again...the drive should be seen now in Windows Explorer.

I have a HP P6310y and both my SATA drives, more often than not, are not recognized. I have removed the DVD and hard drive and tested in another machine and they work fine. Someone told me the mother board might be the problem. Everything else seems to work fine and when both drives are recognized, the computer is fine too. My question is.....Can i install a SATA PCI card and plug my hard drive and dvd drive into it and disable the onboard SATA? Would I be able to then Install my HP recovery disks and reload everything on my hard drive which would also be plugged into the SATA PCI card? I am not familiar with this and just was not sure if my hard drive with windows 7 plugged into SATA PCI would be able to boot or does the machine give you the option in bios to point the boot towards the PCI card?

Hello,

I am thinking of purchasing a new HDD that is SATA 3G. My motherboard is about a year and a half old, and does not specify whether or not it can support 3G. I was just wondering if 3G is i guess backwards compatible? or if it is even worth getting a 3G drive if my MOBO doesn't support 3G.

Thanks.

I bought this SATA controller card to connect my two SATA DVD burners. Problem is that when I put a bootable CD into either of the drives, the system bypasses the bootable CD.

Did I buy the wrong card? Or, is there something else I'm doing wrong?

If I bought the wrong card, what specification/feature should I look for in the next card?

This is the type card you would want. I am sure it is not the only bootable Sata Controller out there, but it is one that I have used and it has worked, at least on an XP system. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816102062

Have an issue with my Syba SD-VIA-1A2S sata controller card that occassionally cause bsod. Updating the driver reduced the frequency but did not eliminate the issue. I would like to replace the card but after extensive research, I have not found a pci sata controller card that I feel confident that would function with windows 7. Can find plenty of pci-x or express that are for windows 7 but pci appears to be fairly rare.

Hello My machine has both older and newer hardware running win with plenty of ram and processor power What I want to do is add a large gig SATA- hard drive to the mix using a controller card I will want to put winXP on this SATA card II controller drive and use it as a mutlimedia storage drive--mainly storing music files in wave file format I m new to SATA and I understand that SATA II controller card now there is SATA II which if I understand correctly provides an even greater data transfer rate My question is this Will a SATA II controller card accept a SATA hard drive or are we talking about incompatible interfaces I might guess that this would work but would like to know for sure You might be wondering why I wouldn t just get a SATA controller card Well given that computer technology is always being improved upon with new standards on the horizon I just wouldn t want a gig SATA drive to become obsolete too quickly Comparabley-sized SATA II drives are a little pricey so I won t be going there right now At least I d have the appropriate controller card when SATA II becomes the norm Any input about SATA compatibility and any other info on this that you can give me would really be appreciated Thanks Tim nbsp

A:SATA II controller card

SATA150 and SATA300 devices are interchangeable no problem.

Mind you, there is virtually no speed difference between SATA150 and SATA300. The interface speed is meaningless, it is the hard drive itself that dictates the data rates. Plus, there are no desktop drives that can do sustained transfers over 100MB/s, so it will be many years before SATA150 actually becomes a bottleneck (perhaps when we get hybrid hard drives with huge solid state caches).

I Have just installed a sata III pci-e card on my Gigabyte p35ds3l motherboard, which only supports SATAII. I had been running an Intel SSD as my C:\ system drive with Windows 7. I booted into windows and installed the drivers for this card: Asmedia 1061.

Now when I plug in a normal sata drive to the card it shows up in windows, no problem. However it refuses to boot from the SSD drive, which is my "C" drive, when plugged in to the sata III card. In fact, when plugged in to the sata3 card, it is not recognised on the start-up screens or in the BIOS. I went into the bios and changed boot order to add on cards, but this did not change the situation. Can anyone offer advice? Using AHCI.

I have done extensive searching & found very limited info on this subject.

One of my PC's has an ASUS A7V8X-X mobo & all IDE channels are at full capacity. I'm considering getting a SATA PCI card so I can add a SATA drive to this board.

I would like to hear from anyone that is using a SATA card in a PCI slot in their mobo & if you had any problems. Info from anyone that has an A7V8X-X with this setup would be great!

A:SATA PCI card recommendations

I recently purchased a SATA contoller card based off an Initio chip from Ebay for $13.00 and it had conflicts with my old SIS 735 chipset based motherboard and has zero support from the chip manufacturer. Eventually I went with a Vantec UGT-ST200 SATA PCI host card from Tiger Direct for $20.00. It's built on a Silicon Image 3512A chip and has so far worked flawlessly. If you are so inclined you can update the cards BIOS with the most recent BIOS from Silicon Image. I saw both Basic and RAID BIOSs for the chip on the SiI site leaving me to believe that you can have an extra RAID array if you want to experiment with a different BIOS. The card allows you to hot swap a drive, and it can see all the space on a drive larger than 137GB. It can also be used as the controller for your computer's primary boot drive.

I had a question about these controller cards. I wish to purchase one of the newest burners and it is only available with a SATA interface now currently until I can afford a better one my computer doesn't have SATA on it.

Is it possible to use one of these cards to attach the burner to it or is it only for hard drives?

This may seem like an odd question but I ahve been out of the loop on the computing world for a bit.

Thanks in advance for any help

I have that drive and would say it can be installed any way u want. It comes with an adapter that will fit in a pci slot and then plug to the SATA slot in the computer or it can be just plugged into a USB2 slot and used as an external hard drive, now I am not saying u can use more ports than the MB has as I have not found a way to do this other than using a USB2 port and just setting an external hard drive. which for backing up is what I wanted.

Hey guys, first timer on here. Normally I can figure this stuff out on my own but am too busy and a little stumped. I built my own pc a few years back. Specs: Asus P5Ne Intel Duo Core2 3.0 and 4gb OCZ Platinum RAM with an Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS OC PCIe. Now, I have 4 hdds, 2 which are IDE and the other two are SATA along with my DVD/CD-Rom. I recently upgraded my video card to a Zotac GeForce GTX 660 2GB PCIe and when I booted up my system none of my hard drives other than the IDE's showed up. I checked my wiring to ensure that all cables were correctly plugged in, and they were. My next thought was my PSU? After going over a few "calculator" websites to determine how much wattage I required, 3 separate sites stated between 413w-430w. My PSU is 650w....so I'm lost. Any help guys/girls?

A:New video card -- no SATA

Take the GTX660 back out/put the 7900 back in and see if the drives show back up again. If they do you either have a motherboard BIOS issue or a videocard BIOS issue.

Before connecting a drive to the card, install the drivers from the disc or the manufacturer's website. If you just installed the card and then hooked up a drive to the card, more than likely, Windows will not be able to see the drive.

Even if it is seen by W7, I can still not see my external???

Welcome to the Se7enforums! Daran

When first installing the eSata controller card did that come with a software/driver cd? With any or most addon devices a device driver of some type will often be needed in order it to work unless Windows has it's own generic version or limited number of original drivers included.

The problems you are seeing there suggest that you already did install drivers that may either be hanging up on you or were the wrong ones for that particular card. Usually a few system restarts will eventually see new drivers fully install and be configured by Windows when they are good and the correct ones.

A bad install or the incorrect drivers on the other hand can cause a list of problems until they are removed or the correct ones see a good install on the next attempt once removed.

This card works with Vista x86 and x64. Usually you do not need to install drivers, although the drivers are on the CD or here :-

However Vista will not "see" the unformatted hard drive. Maybe this is your problem? Maybe you need to plug in the hard drive?

A:SATA Card Install

Just install the card and the drive. then reboot. Your system will refer to the card as a SCSI drive, so don't be suprised.

If youn plan on installing XP on the SATA drive:
Once you have the new drive in and checked out, disconnect the old drive and do a clean install of XP on the SATA drive. Once XP is up you can reconnet the old drive. Then in BIOS tell the system to boot from the "SCSI" drive. This will label the SATA drive as Disk C. If you dont need the space you can leave your old XP on the old drive. Then,by changing the boot order in BIOS, you can boot from the old OS if something happens to your primary system.

If you do a clean install be sure to have a floppy with the drivers. In the beginning of the XP install it will ask you to hit F6 iy you have 3rd party drivers. you will probably need to do this.
