Hey. I am wanting to update firmware for my dvd burner. I know it is a NEC DVD+-RW ND 3650, but after that i have no idea how (or even if I can) update its firmware. Any help would be great thanks!
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
AMD has launched their first WQHL-certified Catalyst graphics card driver update since December 2014, bringing a heap of new features and performance updates across the board, as well as the usual array of bug fixes.
I have played with the CFX and Freesync support on the Acer 1440p 144hz monitor. Works great and makes me want to actually own a Freesync monitor now...
I have a Razer BlackWidow keyboard Recently I downloaded and installed the latest version of Razer s Synapse on update keys swapped firmware Razer BlackWidow to try and fix this issue I was having with my Naga Lo and behold my Naga issues Razer firmware update swapped keys on BlackWidow were fixed but another problem emerged The new version of Synapse added support for the BlackWidow and also upgraded the firmware But after the upgrade my Windows and Alt keys have been swapped so when Razer firmware update swapped keys on BlackWidow I press one I get the other The only way I ve been able to fix it so far is to use SharpKeys to switch the keys back around but when I connect another keyboard that keyboard now has its Windows and Alt keys swapped It s not that big Razer firmware update swapped keys on BlackWidow of a deal but I do swap to a quieter keyboard late at night from time-to-time and I would really prefer to have it fixed without having to rely on a workaround like this I ve check around and I can t find any information about this issue and Razer s support website is completely useless as usual Likewise I haven t had any luck so far with downgrading the firmware either Does anybody have any idea on what I could do particularly other BlackWidow owners nbsp
Can't you just go into Synapse and assign the Windows key to the Alt key and vice versa? All the keys are programmable and hopefully this wouldn't affect your other keyboard.
I have a Gateway NE56R and ever since I updated to windows 8.1 I cannot use the internet at home even though it says it is connected to WiFi, but it works at other places. Please help asap
The impending launch of DirectX 12 is one of the more exciting things to happen in PC gaming in recent years. Many people are eager to see how the low level API will improve the performance of games that implement...
This is way windows is doomed. DirectX 12 should be available for win 7-10, but MS is so greedy, they cant seem to understand why they are disliked and windows will evientaly be destroyed by Google. Just look at there market share. I betting big on SteamOS, and once it takes off, I will take the jump. Windows is now to bloated, and with greed, I hope all backers back Vulkan. DX12 on Win 10 only has officially broke the camel back.
A while ago, after accidentally opening the Store app, Windows forced me to restart to install Windows 8.1, which I was unable to weeks before because of driver issues. I didn't need Windows 8.1 yet, so I didn't download it before then.
However, during the installation, it failed (again) due to either my antivirus or the aforementioned driver issues. Upon logging back in, my computer was unable to find any WiFi networks. Seeing as I live in the middle of a densely populated city, this isn't possible. Plugging in an ethernet cord still works, so no issues with that adapter or my home internet. I checked all the drivers for my WiFi adapter, and my Ethernet adapter, and both are up to date and display as working properly. Restarting several times didn't seem to fix this issue, and using system restore didn't seem to work either. I used the Troubleshooting tool, and that didn't give my any helpful advice or answers, so I got nothing.
What can I do to fix this issue?
For reference, I have a Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter, Driver Version 220.127.116.11, and a Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller, Driver Version 18.104.22.168.
Never mind, it seems to have resolved itself overnight after I put it to sleep for several hours.
Updated my hardware drivers including the wireless adapter, and something must have gotten changed as I can not connect to wifi anymore on HP Notebook G72-253NR with Windows 7.
Flushed winsock, released/renewed ipconfig and deleted/reinstalled adapter. Can meanwhile connect thru Ethernet cable again but not wifi. Finds my wifi network (previously didn't) but can't connect, don't have tcp/ip addresses in LAC or wireless properties, automatically obtain is enabled. IPv4/6 enabled in both also.
Getting message of "HOST Process was prevented from changing settings of ZoneAlarm by modifying registry key HKCS/Services/VSDATANT? at initial startup.
"COM surrogate was prevented from changing settings of ZoneAlarm by modifying registry key HKCS/services/vsdatant" whenever I simply access/exit ip protocol settings.
How can I fix this? My brain is fried after several DAYS of trying to fix my friends computer... Please someone help!
Call your ISP they will walk you through it.
EEPROM is a hardware piece that the BIOS (which is a code) is inside it. What about some piece named firmware? Is there any independent device named firmware in PC? If so, what does it do?
A firmware is a structure code, embedded and instructed written languages that is designed by programmer to communicate with devices attached to the particular device. Most especially of our input devices has firmware inside talk of mouse, keyboard, flash drive e.t.c
Here again since I have the most weird problem ever which I have never seen nor heard of before. I recently upgraded the OS on a friends computer, from Vista to 7. However now I can't seem to get the onboard ethernet adapter to work, it can't be seen in device manager nor anywhere else. I have tried to reset the bios (by removing the cmos battery) and I have also checked that the network adapter is set to 'Enabled'. Also, when I connect the cable to the ethernet port no lights go on, it doesn't give any sort of hope what so ever. The cable is ok, the "modem" is ok, and everything else seems to be in order and yet it doesn't work.
Computer in question:

Non-default GPU and added 1Gb RAM
Whenever you install a new OS, always take note of the model of core system hardware like GPU, chipset, and ethernet/wifi (there are a few others that aren't as important, but nice to have updated) since those are critical to your computers core functionality.
However, a quick google search of your model yielded me with your PC's system specs. Your PC contains a Realtek RTL8201N ethernet adapter. So far I am unable to find a driver from Realtek itself and the HP driver is not Realtek, but instead nVidia nForce.
So after a bit of searching, I came across this: it seems to me that you have an old chipset from nVidia. I am not completely sure, but I think you have an ION chipset. Try installing this ION chipset driver (64 bit) ==OR== this ION chipset driver (32 bit) and tell me if it works. It should include the necessary component drivers and if it works, it means you have an ION chipset like I suspected.
Here are the specifications for your PC BTW.
Motherboard:ASUS M5A97 R2.0
OS:Windows 8.1 64-bit
I hardly know anything about the BIOS so I am asking you this:
Will I need to update my BIOS and if so how to do that?
Am I going to update it to the latest version(2103) or the version when the processor was first compatible(1006)?
Please help, I do not want to make a mistake when updating so please provide a detailed explanation ! ! !
Some might say updating the BIOS is not worth the risk unless you have a reason to chance it. On the other hand I've never had a BIOS update go badly. BIOS updates are not that difficult to do. But there is always a risk of the update failing. In the off chance of failure, the motherboard will be bricked. There are motherboards that come with a second BIOS for failsafe. I don't know if the failsafe can be used under a bricked board, I will assume it can until I hear otherwise.
There are three ways to update that I am aware of. All of which may not be available depending on motherboard model and age of system.
Within the Operating System (I've used this method but for awhile it was advised against)
You will need to download BIOS Update application. The application will download and install the new BIOS.
Within the BIOS
Within the BIOS there is an update facility. You will only need the new BIOS. (My BIOS will only update from a USB stick.)
From DOS utility
Not only will you need to download the new BIOS, you will need to download the flash utility that is designed for the update.
I recommend updating from within the BIOS (assuming you have this option). Download the new BIOS to a USB stick and then boot into the BIOS. Browse around to find the update facility and the rest is self explanatory.
need to know if I can upgrade my graphics card for upgrade to windows 7.
current graphic card:ati radeon 9200 se 128mb ddr tvo
computer :fujitsu siemens scaleo 600
motherboard :microstar ms-6585 2.oa
power supply:dc output 250w
thanks so much.
I don't know if you CAN upgrade your graphics card, but:
You most likely don't NEED to.
It's not really a good idea to upgrade at all. Those parts are old as dirt and you won't find anything cheap that'll fit.
I have no idea why this happened, after the update none of the ports on my computer work after booting into windows. bios was updated before this and all was fine. checked in bios if ports were enabled. still no joy. help!!!
There is a post here about the good old ADAPTEC 1205SA card. But the links in the article do not work. No difference between 1205 and 1210? I know 1210SA is an old card. But on the website of silicon image, chipset 3112 (3112A) has support for windows 7 64bit. I've tried the update utility provided by silicon image site. Be DOS mode, so is Windows. Does not recognize the card as being from Silicon Image. Looking at the card, I saw that the chipset BIOS supports. AM29LV010B-90EC. Does anyone know if there is a possibility of that? What right utility to use? Or if there is a 64-bit driver that works on that card? Thank you.
Does anyone know?
Not sure if posting in the right place, but hope someone can help. I have a dlink dsl 2780 and a huawei hg533, I am wanting to put custom firmware on them both but not sure which one is best. after looking about I am all most sure they have broadcom chipsets in them. which dd-wrt says it will work on most broadcoms and also something called tomato. or will I be better using something else. thank you to anyone who offers advice.
Check the ddwrt compatibility list. If your router(s) are on that, then use ddwrt. I've ran it on 2 routers and been very pleased.

Do you have to update or change the Motherboard to update the processor?
I have a Pentium 4 processor 548, 3.33GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 533MHz front side bus. Can one "Plug and Play" so to speak with an updated processor to the same Motherboard?
Your CPU socket is PPGA478, P4 is the highest CPU this socket will support.
Even with LGA775 CPU socket, unless you had a motherboard that would support quad core, there would be little reason to upgrade over a complete system replacement.
In answer to your question to "Plug and Play", yes and no. Yes CPU's are basically plug and play, and No the motherboard must support the CPU first.
Hey guys, I've attempted a bios update through this website and I've been left with this sitting on my desktop for two days and the loading bar has not moved an inch.
I tried to update the BIOS because for the last few weeks when my computer is booting the screen would go blank and just stay blank and I would have to keep resetting until it would finally boot. I was hoping a bios update would do the trick otherwise I would not have bothered.
Im worried if I exit out or shut-down my computer I could corrupt my BIOS. Any ideas?..
I would exit and maybe try again. Thats the download phase which has nothing to do with the actual update process. The download will complete, before any attempts to update will begin. Updating the BIOS can be very risky, updating would never be handicapped by possible problems of downloading.
Hellow guys again ,, hello the best website ever !!!
I jus wanna ask about something ,, Earlier I mentioned something about upgrading my processor to core 2 duo ,, now ive done that but when ever I start my computer ,, this msg shows up !

Any help ?
HP compaq dx7300 microtower is my pc and Intel core 2 duo E4500 @2.20GHz is the new processor.

Have you tried contacting HP concerning it?
A few months ago I updated my MSI Z A-GD to the latest BIOS quot vP quot which is still the latest settings Z68A-GD55 update won't MSI overclocking changes allow to BIOS after version on MSI s website as of today Since updating to this version the UEFI BIOS screen is totally different the layout has been changed entirely I was able to find the overclocking settings quickly but since the update the board will not allow me to change many settings All CPU Memory chipset voltage adjustments CPU ratio adjustments bclock adjustments etc are all either greyed MSI Z68A-GD55 won't allow changes to overclocking settings after BIOS update out and cannot be selected at all or they are set to quot Auto quot and that is the only available option for them This is a solid overclocking motherboard from what I ve heard online and I m running a K series CPU k so I m really perplexed as to why I can t even adjust the supposedly unlocked CPU ratio on my k I USED to be able to use these settings before the BIOS flash Also I can t seem to find anyone online who s having a similar problem as me As it stands now the only overclocking I can do is with MSI s quot OC Genie II quot which basically automatically overclocks for me I think this is totally ridiculous why is MSI s automated tool allowed to touch these settings when I can t modify them manually Anyone have any idea what s going on My first thought was that maybe there is a setting somewhere in the BIOS that must be enabled first in order to open up the overclocking settings but I searched far and wide and couldn t find one Any help would be greatly appreciated nbsp
Yeah, I think there is a setting somewhere that is checked to auto. Try exploring all the tabs of the BIOS screen and report back if you find anything.
Hello! I'm new here at Tech Spot. This is a great website.
Where can I get a copy of the newest BIOS update for my motherboard?
Model: Asus P5GD1-VM Motherboard
Onboard Sound: Azalia (swa)
Onboard LAN: Exist (wl)
BIOS Size: 512 K
BIOS Type: AMI
I downloaded all BIOS .ROM files in the official website of Asus. But it weren't compatible with the BIOS to be flashed.
Please help me! Thank you very much in advanced!
The latest BIOS for your board is version 1015. It's not necessary to load each BIOS in order, just load the latest. To load the BIOS you must copy it to a floppy disc and rename it P5GD1-VM.ROM If you didn't rename it, that's why it won't load. On the same Asus download page, you can get the user manual for your board, which goes into detail how to reflash the BIOS. It can render your motherboard un-bootable if you do it wrong, so I would read the manual before attempting it again, and follow instructions carefully.

"Now the motherboard won't even get to POST or show any signs or working on a monitor" You might be able to get the motherboard to respond by removing the battery for a few minutes. If not, the motherboard may need to be replaced

Yes that video card will work with your motherboard.
However, it may not be the best value for money compared to the current gen video cards on offer.
For example, the newer Nvidia GTX 660 is the same price as the 560 Ti and offers around 30% more performance. Alternatively, the AMD Radeon HD 7850 costs even less and still offers better performance than the 560 Ti. I would highly recommend you go with one of these (doesn't have to be that exact model of 660 or 7850).
Hello techspot, Basically I think ineed to update my BIOS in order to run call of duty black ops 2, but I Don't know.
Basically when I try to run the game, my pc freeze's then shuts down and says no signal detected, I've been looking all over the inet to try find a solution and came across a forum where people were having the same problem. (They're all using AMD) Alot of the people there said they contacted there motherboard supplier's and asked for a flash drive update or something? to update their BIOS. After doing this they said the game started to work.
my motherboard is a N68-VS3 FX, If someone could link me to the correct update for it that would be grand. im on windows 7 if that helps
P.S , Sorry I think I posted this in the wrong section
I noticed yesterday that HP was auto-updating wireless updates. After they had finished, my wireless capability was gone. There was a problem with my Intel Centrino N 1030 wireless driver, and have not been able to correct the problem. Also, when I try to restart it takes forever, and I get a notification when it finally does that there was a critical blue-screen error?
What version of Windows?
I was bored the other night so I No output reassembling parts video good solved after -- decided to assemble some parts I had laying around into a working system It was late and I d had a couple beers so I wasn t at my best I had some trouble installing the Hyper but finally had it all together and wired up It seemed to boot up fine all fans spinning both drives spinning but no output to video I knew that all parts came from a working system tried another No video output after reassembling good parts -- solved monitor tried a video card cleared CMOS reseated RAM no video Took it all apart and examined the mobo looking for shorted spots and cracks nothing I could see was wrong Went to bed had nightmares about electromagnetic pulse weapons testing randomly destroying computers all over the world Got up determined to fix a computer that shouldn t be broken installed the CPU and Hyper No video output after reassembling good parts -- solved again noticed that this time it lined up the screws much easier and didn t press the heatsink as tightly - looked at the instruction illustration again and realized I had the X bracket on wrong before quot breadboarded quot it and the video works Put it all back in the case testing at each step to make sure it was still getting VGA output It works fine now The extra mechanical force applied by the X bracket being wrong was enough to stress the CPU or the mobo to the point of throttling the video output somehow So for all you others who had the same problem no video after re-assembling good parts which Googled up in the hundreds this is one thing you might check When installed properly most coolers will twist a couple of degrees without too much trouble If it s rigidly immobile like mine was last night with X bracket installed wrong then something s wrong The lesson learned here is don t drink and attempt to build a computer even if it s only beers in hours nbsp
I guess you could say...
The shlt hit the fan.
ok, terrible pun, I'm sorry.
Hi all I Acer update 8935g driver screen GPU blank after recently updated the driver for the Ati card in my laptop during the installation the screen had gone blank and has stayed that way ever since But first heres a back story I started having trouble with the laptop a few months ago when I assume the ati card had overheated and caused the screen to flicker this laptop comes with an Intel card also which you can switch to by pressing the power save button near the keyboard The intel card ran just fine and if I output the video through hdmi the ati card would work fine also Acer 8935g screen blank after GPU driver update which led me to Acer 8935g screen blank after GPU driver update believe that there maybe an issue with the screen Also if I kept pressing the power save button and switching between cards the ati card would eventually begin to work normally on the laptops screen I wanted to update my drivers today as they were a couple of years old I had trouble installing them in the past as there was a conflict between both gpu cards so I became frustrated and left it I used Ati s auto detect tool and it began to install the new drivers when the screen went blank I thought this was normal during a driver update but I left the laptop running and it stayed that way for over an hour So I turned the laptop off using the main power button Probably wasnt a good idea I imagine Now the screen just stays blank even if I try to switch to the intel card Any help on this issue will be much appreciated nbsp
It might be the inverter or the backlight for the LCD. Have you tried using the HDMI output on both cards if the Intel integrated supports HDMI out?
so im deciding to upgrade my mobo that supports pci 2.0 I was wondering does 2.0 support 2.1 because im going to put a budget radeon card in it note this is not a gaming pc just a little upgrade
Yes, PCIE 2.0 will support a 2.1 card.
I'm trying to update the drivers on my Radeon x600 256MB graphics card with Windows XP 32 bit.
I downloaded the following file described as the ATI Catalyst Driver 10.2 (XP): download-euro <dot> oldapps <dot> com/ATI/10-2_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu.exe
On running this download, it has installed Catalyst Install Manager in C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\Bin, but I have no idea what I need to do next!
Running Install Manager and following the steps through seems to do something, though looking at device manager, it doesn't look as though the driver has been updated (it's still version 22.214.171.124)...
Thanks in advance
Try the WDM Integrated Driver here :
I wasn't able to connect through my wireless router to the internet on any of my wireless devices until I plugged in my wireless usb stick. I plugged it into one laptop, and now I can use both. Why would this happen? My mother has the same connectivity issue, and do you think I should try the same thing? It seems as though that every wireless connection that I come across has this problem lately. Every single one. I am confused, is it just me?
Renewing your IP address. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network. I used to get that error every time I tried to repair connection.
I think the lack of responses here may be the result of everyone else being confused as well.
Try explaining that a little better, its not exactly clear what your problem is.
I am very very frustrated since I waited a while to get this motherboard from china. My last DFI board randomly died on me and I ordered this as a replacement because I wanted a decent 775 board. I worked on it all night tonight and despite it reading all the hardware... it will not boot unless I reset the cmos every time. On top of that... I can not get the bios to update... it doesn't read any of the 5 usb drives I tried (fat/fat32). Also I tend to get this grey screen when trying to flash it sometimes. I am beside myself at this point after fussing with it for hours on end and I really need some help.
Sounds like either the BIOS is corrupted or the motherboard battery is a goner.
Have you tried burning the new BIOS to a bootable CD ?
Hi My system already had an Nvidia GT Gcard installed and running for about years now Yesterday i got a BOOTMGR error and had to repait that file using the Windows Disc This involved using the onboard video chip of my motherboard Manufacturer BIOSTAR Group - Model GF -M TE Upon resolving the BOOTMGR issue i was unable to resuse my graphics card I have tried reinstalling drivers motherboard drivers resetting CMOS etc The trouble is when i try disabling the onboard chip through device manager it still will not switch to the issue (not solved card Graphics threads) by other any Gcard There is also only an Graphics card issue (not solved by any other threads) option in BIOS to set the onboard chip to ON or Auto ON I do not have the driver CD for the graphics card and gave been using the Nvidia site for them Also what appears to be odd is that the computer does not detect the Gcard at all and only the onboard chip even if i uninstall the drivers for it and disable it Any help would be great nbsp
I suggest a clean reinstall of the OS and drivers from scratch. Clean out your PC, re-seat all the components and continue with a fresh install of OS, drivers, etc.
If that doesn't work, then it's an issue with your card or the PCI-E slot on the motherboard.
I am looking for a way to bring an old IBM desktop machine that I built Into more sutible working conditions. Does any one have any Ideas on how I can update the innerds of my computer?
I know this very vauge but I dont have the computer with me now and am looking to stock up on what I need (Info and parts) Before I get back to it.
We heed to know the components you have before we can recommend upgrades. What is the IBM model number - or better a link to the IBM spec list for it - and what new components did you put in?
Also, what is your budget and how do you use the PC?
For a starter on learning about video card upgrades, I recommend this site:
Pay particular attention to the criteria page that addresses system constraints in the upgrade process - and helps you define your wants and needs in a way that is useful:
After doing some research...(I feel fairly stupid) I have figured out that a Ati Radeon Hd 5400 Series graphics card, is not the best for gaming. I got this PC for Christmas from iBuypower. Here are my specs:

CPU Speed 3.00 Ghz
Motherboard Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co.
Motherboard Model GA-770T-USB3
Ram 4 Gigabytes
Power Supply MaxPower PX-480 (480w)
And I am from the US.
Thx to cfitzarl for the guide to opening a new thread.
BTW I play games like WOW and Rift soon to be Magicka.
Planning to upgrade my graphic card here are the current specs :
Intel C2D 2.8 Ghz
4 GB DDR2 RAM

I would agree with your final comment, "if it ain't broke don't fix it". But, on the other hand if Dell are pushing this recommendation then it may have some benefits, just make certain it is coming from Dell and not some bogus site. Go to the official Dell support site and look up your PC's drivers, it will show you in there what the latest version the Bios is, just check it against what you have. Go into Bios at boot and it will be written at the top of the screen.
Hello on update Can't my Asus UL30VT! driver graphics I m not sure this belongs in this forum section so if it doesn t please don t bite my head off All right so about a month ago the laptop I used to game with broke because of a water accident Thus I cannot get it repaired for free and my poor little student budget can t afford a repair So now I Can't update my graphics driver on Asus UL30VT! m using my tiny UL VT to game with until Can't update my graphics driver on Asus UL30VT! I can get hold of someone who can repair my dear laptop for something cheaper than what the store I bought it at charges for it - And it has been coping surprisngly fine considering that it isn t a laptop meant for that But yesterday I ran into a problem where I am forced to update my graphics driver to be able to play on decent graphics in most of my games So I downloaded the newest driver from nvidia and everything was fine until it told me that it couldn t install because it couldn t find the hardware itself I got told that s because of the option to switch betweens graphics Intel GMA X MHD and NVIDIA GeForce G M in my UL VT and thus I need to get a special driver from ASUS But that driver s nowhere to be found So are anyone here able to tell me where I can find the driver I need It really annoys me to have to play on the lowest graphics possible just because of a stupid driver problem THanks in advance nbsp
Been to the ASUS driver download page, BUT it was blank at first try, so forced it to reload the page;
There are 2 drivers listed for your UL30VT, 1) is a patch , (V126.96.36.199)@116KB, and
2) nVidia graphic driver, (V188.8.131.5288)@ 97MB.
These are for Windows 7. Hope this is what you meant.

You didn't read the support list properly. The Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Duo processors are not supported. See here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=1937 The N/A in the "Since BIOS Version" column means not supported. See the red note in the upper left of the page?
So you are wasting your time trying to update the BIOS. There's no point.
Ok so I have a custom build PC. I have a Asus P5K motherboard. I have upgraded to Windows 7 due to vista sucking *** lmao. But the only problem with that is, my motherboard is not compatable with Windows 7. I keep getting the BSOD because i need to update my BIOS. What can I do to fix this..." BECIDES GOING BACK TO VISTA" ┐
Have you tried using the Asus "EZ Flash 2" utility? Here is ASUS download page for your motherboard:
Hey has anyone ever heard of this I have a Dell laptop that told me it needed to update my video drivers so I did and all hell broke loose I couldn t issues 1536 Studio Dell after HD update run AVG everything was bogged down and it took FOREVER to open folders or files I tried restore it but all restores points were gone and I tried using Dell CDs to restore the HD put it keep failing I finally had to pull the drive out and hook it by USB to another system also running AVG and scanned it It said I had only two virii both Win Heur in Dell Studio 1536 HD issues after update the updated ATI drivers After it scanned I used AVG on the desktop computer to quarantine the files and heal them It told me it couldn t because they longer existed Then when I tried to look at the contents of that partition it was blank When I put it back in the laptop it tried to boot but fails saying no bootable media exists Now multiple errors are popping up with other hardware on the system I hooked it back up to the desktop and I can still see the drive but no files Any clues on what I ve done I posted in the virus and malware forum but they said it looked like a windows issue Any suggestions would be most appreciated TD Sorry I can t give any log files but they re just vanished nbsp
You will probably have to purchase a Dell restore disc for your model laptop and do a fresh install of Windows

I purchased a new computer an Acer last August so it is about months old My computer runs Windows Vista I recently tried installing a program How update I sound do my card? and could not get it to run on my computer I sent my dxdiag file to the tech support and they told me that I most likely needed to update my sound card since it is from March I attempted through the windows update screen to find updates and I also have tried to update drivers through the quot find updated drivers quot that is on my computer and both of those options tell me that my drivers sound card are up to date However it is still possible that I can download something from the manufacturer website I have a Realtek soundcard but the only way to download updates is to know what model I have The way they reccommend to do that is to unscrew the computer and look on the soundcard itself The problem is that we have a very compact model and I would prefer not to go fishing around in such How do I update my sound card? a small space Is there a way to find the model of my sound card some other way When I clicked on information about my sound card it says RTKVHDA sys Any information you can provide would be helpful I actually doubt that updating my sound card will make the program work but I want to be able to tell tech support that I did it and it didn t work It isn t the sound of the program that s not working When I click on the program it opens but there is a dialog box with it that says quot Guitar Praise stopped working quot so nothing opens at all I would think if it were the sound card I would be able to have the program open but without sound Thanks Kendra nbsp
you shouldn't ever need to physically upgrade to a better sound card unless you're looking for better quality sound. having said that sound cards are not typically the cause of programs that refuse to install. not sure why they told you to get it replaced as it is probably built in to the motherboard. it sounds to me like the software may be incompatible with the drivers or direct x may need updating.
one quick way to determine your sound card is to download Piriform's Speccy, which will display all of the computer's hardware information. just click on "audio" and check the first section which will have a list of sound cards.
hey y all- i had a for undervolted PS modem Problem solved: modem connectivity problem that had an easy answer and I thought I would post a note just to keep us all thinking creatively -- My computer DSL connection was iff-y then died I figured out that the power supply for the wire modem Problem solved: undervolted PS for modem was dead - I did this by Problem solved: undervolted PS for modem process-of-elimination and by don t try this at home sticking my tongue on the power tip of the power supply - at volts you should feel a little buzz - no buzz dead power supply So I head of to Radio Shack Go Lance They don t have a volt ps They do have a multi-power adapter that includes volt in the range of selectable voltage by a switch It costs more than a plain volt power adapter should but I want to read Techspot so I Problem solved: undervolted PS for modem pay the extra money for a multi-adapter rather than find one off the web and wait for shipping Multi-adapter had wrong polarity and this was not switchable so I had to cut and reverse the wiring don t try this at home unless you know what you are doing - wrong polarity will smoke and kill whatever low -voltage thingie yo uplug in including DSL modem Prob Solved Months later I get modem problems I think it is a wireless connectivity problem because whenever I try to hit the web by wireless the modem freaks out Somehow days later it occurs to me power could be wrong sure enough one of my preschoolers had somehow pushed the power adapter voltage slector switch from volt to volt -- so when the desktop and the laptop were both trying to pull data through the wire modem it was just enough power drain to make the modem shut off So if you have connectivity problems as always check the classic quot is it plugged in Is it turned on quot intervention first - check for a dead power adapter on your modem And if you have to improvise and use a multi-voltage power supply adapter you might want to glue or tape the voltage selector button in place nbsp

Good stuff there J. I don't know anything about wireless mice but i am wondering if it "reset" itself. Just a thought and a small one at that.
Short version - I used DG45ID (solved) motherboard Intel dead a non compatible cpu which has the effect of leaving Intel DG45ID motherboard dead (solved) the board switched on Long version - I bought the DG ID off ebay and got a CPU to go in it I switched on the fan worked and HDD was active but no screen The USBs were active When I switched off at the mains When I switched on it powered up without the start button I realised I had a non compatible cpu I bought an E The first time I switched on at the mains it came on without the start button but subsequently I had to press start to power the board ie as normal CMOS jumper When I bought it the jumper connected pin with the LED pin I assume that is like a removed jumper ie BIOS flash mode Hence Intel DG45ID motherboard dead (solved) when I connected a DVD drive it Intel DG45ID motherboard dead (solved) crashed I assume it was looking for a bio file Nothing I could do would recover the board The green standby light came on but nothing else It was dead No USB power no fans nothing I remembered the wrong CPU that had left the board quot switched on quot I put it in and it behaved as before power but no monitor I then replaced the E and hey presto I was in but only on cmos recovery there was no bios But the USBs were active So I removed the jumper flashed the BIOS from a USB stick and it s up and running NB the intel manual is wrong regarding the CMOS pins It shows pin closest to the battery That is actually pin If you look I can t post the pdf link page the pin is clearly show closest to the battery I thought it was strange that all the images on Google show the jumper on pins furthest from the battery the manual says that is the recovery position nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/intel-dg45id-motherboard-dead-solved.158177/

I am building a new pc, and I purchased an ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3 MB a couple of weeks ago...I suspect that the BIOS is of around April - 2010...(302)....I will save the current BIOS to a Flash Drive, before updating current BIOS, but my question is....there are a lot of newer versions, with the latest being 901....If I download the latest version, does it encompass all the other version updates prior ? I intend to use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit....Thanks in advance....

why do you want to update your BIOS, is something wrong. If in ant broke, don't try to fix it.
i was wondering if anyone besides me has tried the update video drivers using steam? I for one tried it and was very disappointed after the update my video driver just continually reset itself.
Tried it when it first came out for 10.9 driver update and it worked fine. Haven't done it yet for the new release though.
I just launched up my PC (W7) and there is a red cross on the bottom right where the network connection is.
Everytime I launch IE it freezes everytime I launch up firefox it just doesnt load up although I can connect to Skype fine and update software.
This is really werid, sounds like a viruses blocking internet browser and displaying a cross because I have internet as I just updated my software.
Virus and spyware scan came up clean
Everytime I launch IE it freezes

1+2 are real issues that *can* impact you regardless of the network settings, so you may go thru a lot of work and still have issues left over :sigh:
What has changed? Did you install hardware/software or tweek some settings?
Basically, I use Steam the gaming software, and I just bough Counter Strike Source, and I installed it, and then it said I needed to update my drivers, So I did - and the pc rebooted and the screen was bigger than usual, for example the task bar was huge and so was the icons etc. So I went into control panel and tried to change the resolution and now it has improved and is not as large, but I now have a black gap down the right hand side and I don't know how to get rid of it. Also some how I have managed to un-install my drivers and I have no idea how to re install them or anything
Im totally confused - any help will be appreciated.
When you say you updated your drivers how did you try to actually do it?
Typically, you should go to the AMD/ATI website (link to AMD), download the appropriate graphics driver, uninstall the old graphics driver from Programs and Features (Vista, W7) or Add or Remove Programs (XP), restart and install the new driver.
You can try to start over by using System Restore and restore the system to a point before you tried to update the driver. Be aware that any updates or application installations you did since then will likely have to be done again.
Having some problems running World of Warcraft I posted on a thread about my difficulty and gave them my dxdiag and a Blizzard poster gave me a link to follow to update my video driver I followed the link downloaded it and proceeded to update Video difficulty driver install the new driver Video driver update difficulty when about of the way through the installation it said that it quot failed to install a core component quot and that upon computer restart it would revert back to the last driver that worked However when I restarted things were a little messed up Icons were gigantic so I fixed the resolution but things still seem messed up - my ability to scroll down a window online or offline seems severely hampered - it s more like it quickly reloads the page than actual scrolling I am wondering what I should do now to get things back to the way they ought to be I am not entirely sure how to figure out what graphics card or driver I currently have my friend built it for me while I was at school but here is the info found in the link I was given I don t have enough posts yet to actually post the link GeForce ION Driver Release Version WHQL Release Date Operating System Windows XP Language English U S File Size MB Let me know how I might be able to obtain any other info that would help Thanks a lot nbsp
If it were me I would use system restore (it works better from safe mode) to go back to before you installed the driver that messed you up.
Anytime you update your graphics drivers you should use a cleaner to remove any traces of the old one, otherwise you can have problems. I often use driver cleaner pro (the free version) from within windows immediately after uninstalling from the add/remove programs section (XP). Remove all drivers for the graphics but leave any chipset stuff for nvidia alone. Here's the order I uninstall (nview desktop manager then drivers then display control panel will give you an error cause the driver unistall allready got it) You can also uninstall the physx drivers if you have them and download a new version if you need it.
Then run "driver cleaner pro" (google it but download from a place you trust) and select the word "nvidia" only, thats the graphics drivers leave the chipset stuff alone. It will even remove the folder under your C drive where nVidia likes to extract its stuff. Then reboot and go into safe mode (for me its the F8 button repeatedly at boot) and in safe mode install the new drivers.
Failed to install a core driver means there was something still active on your machine and it couldn't replace it while it was running.
The best way to be sure you get drivers for your machine is to go to the nvida site and follow the support section entering your info as you go (usually a few windows putting the appropriate info in order, but its for cards only, not onboard video, if you have onboard video you have to go to the mobo manufacturers site). Start with your graphics (geforce) then the series (like 8) your card number (like a 8800gt) and finally your OS. there is also a button for letting them scan your machine and tell you what you need automatically. I don't do warcraft or any online gaming so I can't help you but perhaps installing the latest directx 9.0c (june redistibutable) might be a good idea too.
All your icons got big cause it reverted back to just a generic VGA driver when the install failed and your desktop looked like you were in safe mode where drivers do not get loaded but most can be installed.
After an hour online with Intel tech support, it was determined that a DH55HC motherboard was faulty and has to be RMA'd. Graphics with a i5-650 processor would not work, though the board worked fine with an X-16 card. As I used an OEM version of Win. 7-64, would it be possible for Intel to install firmware on the replacement board that would allow the operating system to see the new board as it would have the board that was replaced? The only component changed will be the motherboard, all drives including boot drive will remain unchanged.
If the motherboard is the same model, the "old" Windows 7 install should work. You might have to re-activate Windows 7 though
Has anyone had any weird probelms when charging after doing new firmware update?
It went from 47% to 100% charged in .10 of a second, believe me im not complaining, just very weird.
Check out pictures and Log
Firmware for what component?
HI guys I BIOS to vain Still update my trying in desperately need some expert help here I have an ASUS M N-E motherboard here s the site for it h t t p ca asus com product aspx P ID NFlvt av F ayQ had to add spaces to Still trying in vain to update my BIOS the first bit as the system here won t let me post links for some reason I ve had it for about or years with a Ghz single core processor It s been good enough up until I bought Starcraft - and I failed to notice that the game requires a Ghz single core processor as a minimum preferably a dual core I figured I was probably due for an update and decided to get a new computer Then I discovered that all the computers within my budget would fail to get the job done THEN I noticed the box that my motherboard came in and for the first time noticed it said in big letters right on the front of the box quot Dual-Core CPU ready quot Well duh if I d been observant enough to notice that years ago I would have updated my bloody processor ages ago but oh well I figured hey I m saved So I went out and bought an Athlon II X Ghz quad core processor - much to my amazement it s on the list of supported CPUs for my motherboard The M N-E is an AM chipset I think and the new chip is AM - but the ASUS site still insists it s kosher So here s the problem it says I have to update my BIOS - it s a little scary I admit since one of my computers in the past died during the procedure - but anyway I went for it Repeatedly I tried the BIOS but whenever it got into the ASUS EZ Flash utility it ALWAYS hangs up when it says quot erasing blocks quot - the status bar next to it never moves I left it for a half an hour and it still didn t move I then tried the BIOS - same thing I used a USB flash drive to store the new bios version on as the motherboard s manual says to it also specifies something about using a FAT format - presuming meaning that the file allocation tables need one of those three formats however when I format my USB drive my options are FAT FAT and FAT ex I think It was set on FAT originally Using that format the EZ BIOS Flash utility does see the USB drive and seems to be able to read from it - it can see the file name and date of the BIOS version I m attempting to install So after that failed I tried reformatting it to FAT but then the utility wasn t able to see the USB drive at all I reformatted it back to FAT again and again it could see it but it still hangs up after quot erasing blocks quot So yeah I m kinda stumped Oh the manual also says something about a second way to go about it using the AwardBIOS flash utility which I ve downloaded - but it requires a boot disk and I don t have a floppy drive Is it possible to use a USB drive to make a boot disk After you tech wizards manage to get my head put on straight about this I ll have to beg for help about my new graphics card too - I bought a XFX Radeon but whenever I put it in the system doesn t even boot up I think I m just gonna go buy an abacus edit oops Windows XP home edition Gb DDR ram w power supply uhh I dunno if there s any other relevant info here nbsp
Floppy drives with cables are less than $4.00 around these parts... maybe that is the best way to go for a six year old motherboard.
Hard to believe that board is Dual Core Ready? or that it is 5 or 6 years old. Tell us more?
you want to be very careful flashing a BIOS if you have never done it before... That is a certain way to ruin a motherboard, unless you have a good manual or guidance... for first timers.
so ive updated my me on board nvidia, and now my gta game dosnt work. i can still play all my other games, only this one stoped. anyway, my question is: does the driver update for the previously mentioned card have any compatibility issues, or do i just need to grab meh saves and reinstall the game?
have you tried rolling back you drivers.
For Windows XP
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
3.Navigate to the driver you wish to roll back, right click the name of the driver and choose Properties
4.Click the Driver tab and then click Roll Back Driver
For windows Vista & 7
1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.
2. Double-click the category containing your device driver, and then double-click the name of the device you want to restore to a previous driver version.
3. Click the Driver tab, and then click Roll Back Driver.

On some motherboards removing the battery, in and of itself is not enough. You need a jumper. List the model number of your motherboard.
Hi, i was wondering if anyone had any advice.
Last night i updated my bios (ASUS M2N4-SLI), unfortunately during the update the power went off in the house when i boot now nothing happens, the keyboard and mouse are not even booting. There is power to the motherboard but i can?t get a boot screen or anything, is there any way that i can sort this out?
Unfortunately there is little you can do if the flashing has failed. If the motherboard does not POST, you are most-likely looking at a paperweight. There may be a bit of hope if your mainboard has a chip socket (meaning you can physically pull the BIOS chip) but most are soldered right to the PCB. If you can remove the BIOS chip, you can send it to BIOSMAN where they will replace it and reflash the corrupt chip. I've used them before, it's a very good service.
As far as soldered goes, I'm afraid that's tough luck. Replace the motherboard.
I just purchased the XFX 8600 GT that many have said fits and works in the Dell E521 (numerous help threads allover google).
The problem I'm having is that, despite uninstalling drivers and everything, I throw the 8600 into the computer and start the computer up.
This is where it gets hairy.
The cards fan spins fast 4 times, and then slows down to a normal speed. During this whole time, nothing is displayed on the computer (no bios/windows xp loading screen/nothing) and I can't tell if it is even detected.
I've tried all the dvi ports too, nothing.
There's question in which the 305 w power supply can handle it and many have said so.
Is the card faulty?
The card I take out it the 7300 LE. There's no onboard graphics either.
Either the graphics card is defective or the power supply can't handle it after all. It's not easy to say at this point. If it was me, I would try the new card in another system or try a better power supply in your current system. Of course, I don't know if you have access to alternatives but I don't know how you can be sure otherwise.
Just installed new mobo to replace old one that died. Swapping in one exactly the same but computer won't detect keyboard so I can't get into bios. This is the reason I decided to update BIOS. Followed the directions on Intel website for updating BIOS both with flash drive and cd. Neither worked. Version of BIOS is 431, tried to update to 444 then 478. MoBo is an INTEL D915GAG socket 775. When attempting to update comp just hangs cpu fan is on but the monitor light just blinks off and on. Tried to enter setup by putting jumper on pins 2 and 3 which is labeled 'config' then upon start-up message 'entering setup...' appears at bottom of screen but it just hangs there.
You may have a motherboard that cannot be repaired, if you used the incorrect BIOS, or attempted to install it in an unacceptable way, it can render the board useless... the reason is that the system cannot run to go back and install an acceptable BIOS.
If this is the case, there is probably no fix available to you...
That is a fairly old motherboard, and lots of replacemetns and refurbs are available cheaply.. you should be able to find one for under $30 or $40..
Good luck. Let us know how it worked out for you.
cpu is a 2800+ but is only running at 1200 fsb stuck at 100 and no way to change in bios i know flashing bios is dangerous but im really tired of computer running so slow

My I be of some assistance here? Which model do you have. The have emulator I can see what your working with?
I would download the firmware to the PC you have connected to the AP but your going to use hardwired connection to that AP to upload the firmware to it.
Again which model do you have?
I flashed my DIR-825 to the new F/W 2.03NA.
Wireless is a little slower, but range is 15 feet further.
Could be due to local conditions.
Per GRC.com all ports are stealth, not just closed!!
Any one else using it?
If so, what are your experiences?
Thank you in advance for your input.
Firmware tweaks or fixes code commands. So prior to your firmware update how was the wireless?
I have an old backup laptop that usually works fine.It needs more ram and more space but its ok. Are there updates that I could find for this model that would make a difference. My little acer isnt always the best choice. This one is bigger and more comfortable. I dont have to keep scrolling to see the whole screen. Its easier to play farmville with a bigger screen(did I say that out loud?)
I think you already mentioned two of the upgrades you can make: RAM and hard drive. Add to that a possibe processor. Beyond that there isn't much you can do with a laptop.
Right now I m running Windows bit on MSI P Neo Combo motherboard gigabytes DDR BFGtech Nvidia gtx other update won't things.. among BIOS Motherboard work mb gigabyte Western digital hard drive rpm Default BIOS version I m not sure just how much more is relevant so ask if you need more information on my system Here s my problem Today I got another gigabyte stick of RAM for Motherboard BIOS update won't work among other things.. my computer Putting into Channel B results in a strange error It tells me that quot the performance of overclocking is failed quot and refuses to boot windows It only offers that I can open up the boot menu or go into the BIOS to edit settings I deduced that since the memory chip wasn t dead that I was having an issue with the BIOS I did some research and found that my BIOS was outdated Version is out and it has improved memory capabilities which I assume means that it will support unbuffered sticks of memory Attempting to update my BIOS results in another error It tells me that the version of the file I m trying to install isn t compatible with my operating system and that I need to check for a version of the file that s compatible with bit My BIOS update however only has one to my knowledge download link on the MSI homepage and it says NOTHING with regards to whether it s necessary to have a bit version of it or not Please someone has to have some insight here I know someone has a clue on how to fix this Anything any of you can offer me will be very much appreciated I ve already tried asking MSI tech support for help but they ve been essentially useless thus far nbsp
What method of BIOS flashing have you tried thus far?
The official page for the mainboard specifies that it already supports two unbuffered 1.5v DIMM modules
Networking and routers are an area I have almost zero knowledge My current router is a Linksys BEFSR four port wired I ve had it running for years and though there have been the occasional need to reset through rebooting it has been rock solid Since the day I set it up I have let it be As the old adage goes quot If it ain t broke don t fix it quot However I Firmware: Access Upgrade Should Point? I for Router would now like to add an Access Point in order to have wireless connection for our laptops rather than having to have said laptops connected by an ethernet cable There are a large Router Firmware: Should I Upgrade for Access Point? number of offerings of Access Points that allow this option by connecting to a wired router Since the firmware must be old I was wondering if the first step should be upgrading my router to the lastest firmware before adding the Access Point I certainly don t want to quot brick quot my router but I have certainly gotten my monies worth out of it if it does happen Thoughts Thanks nbsp
you said it already "if it aint broke ..."
get the A/P and wire it to one of the BEFSR41 ports. disable the DHCP service in it
and your wifi connections will be on the same subnet as the wired users.
if you want them isolated, leave DHCP active and change the A/P address to
something different than your BEFSR41; this will inhibit routing between the two
while still allowing both to have Internet access.
I have an Acer Aspire 1350 an the hard Drive Locks after bios update and demand password to access.
Hash code is 00007
Please, help me !
Yeap, apparently there was an update for trim support with RAID 0, 1, and 10 (not 5).
Now, this is really interesting news to me, as I want to buy a couple of SSDs for my new build, and put in RAID 0.
Now, this update is apparently only for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Reading around, I can't figure out of this would include the P55 chipset.
Can anyone answer this?
Any Intel I/O controller hub that supports RAID from ICH7R onwards (so from 945P chipset), including the P55 family (which has an integrated Platform Controller Hub).
For any other thread viewers interested:
Driver here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=&DwnldID=15251
All drives in the array must of course support TRIM
Definitely a step in the right direction !
Hi, I was looking to update my motherboard drivers and there i found update for
my BIOS. My mobo is MSi K8N NEO4 Platinum [MS-7125] 1.0. I downloaded update for BIOS, and i got 4 files: 7125 - Text document that says what is that update doing. it says: This BIOS fixes the following problem of the previous version:
- Improve compatibility problem with nVidia graphic card
- Improve stability problem when doing overclock behavior.
Im getting a new nVidia gpu, and + my system is unstable when oc so i really need this update. I also got a exe. file, and some 160. file. when i click that exe file nothing happens. Last file i got is called How To Flash the BIOS.doc. Do i have to read that file in order to update bios?? I dont understand English very well, is FLASHING bios updating BIOS?
Unless you are having a problem that the BIOS update will solve, I recommend not flashing the BIOS. There is a risk. If something goes wrong with the flash whether it's your mistake or a power outage or something else, your motherboard could become useless. This is a risk especially if you are not sure how to read the instructions on how to do it.
Do you have a problem that you think updating the BIOS will fix?
I did what it said to do in the instructions (I thought) and now my computer won't recognize the external backup. Here is the link to the enclosure.
How can I reflash the thing if I can't see it?
Try the external enclosure on another computer. Was the enclosure configured in a RAID configuration?

What problem do you have with your graphics card?
Unless absolutely necessary, it isn't generally recommended to update the BIOS.
I have the original bios version that shipped with the motherboard and I'm going to try to update it to v. 1805. I just wanted to see if anyone with more experience with this would mind giving me detailed instructions on how to. I have general ideas on how to do it but I wouldn't mind having an step by step list : ).
while not a hard process... it can be dangerous to flash you BIOS version and you run the risk of turning your computer into a nice paperweight.
first off... what is the biggest reason you are looking to update your BIOS version? any problems can probably be solved by other means unless you have proof that you need to flash the cmos. the safest way to flash to a new BIOS version is to use a utility such as awdflash.exe (Award Flash) in command prompt before the computer boots windows. there are ways to flash the BIOS within windows, but it's typically more reliable to perform the operation in command prompt.
for the actual process... you will need the BIOS file (usually a .bin file), and flash utility like awdflash, and a bootable CDROM, USB drive or floppy disk if you have that. i like using FLASHCD to make bootable disks in which both the BIOS file(s) and tools are copied to. basically, you boot from the CDROM and run the flash utility from the prompt. from there you should just need to input the file you want to flash to the CMOS (and if you are using a flash drive or floppy you can make a backup of the original just in case). if all goes well after the file is flashed, remove the media and restart the computer. done.
you should be able to find a more in-depth guide by searching around for A8N-specific stuff... if you need it. good luck...
Hey, I wanted to put some new games on my Laptop, and I got the Direct X 9.0c Compatible Graphics Adapter message. So I went online, and was instructed to go onto Device Manager and I found I had Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, so then I got some kind of update checker and it looked through my hardware and found that my Graphic Adapter needed updating...
I have already put some of the games I want on my laptop before now, and un-installed them when I ran out of space, and now I have more space I want to put them back on.
I tried a link for the Update, but it told me to use Windows Update, but it doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone know a free way of updating Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?
That would be helpful x :grinthumb

You're adding an optical drive?
The core of the system is compatible- as I ascertained before recommending the mobo/RAM components- and you should have a great system once you put it all together.
Harddrive choice is probably a coin flip:
The Caviar Black has faster read and write times (probably not noticeable in real world use)
and a 5 year warranty. The Caviar Green will be quieter, run a little less hot, has a larger capacity (in this instance) but has the warranty reduced to 3 years.
Dvd disk drive won't run DVD's. Makes alot of clicking, spinning noises but wont read disks. Went to HKEY areas and changed some things recom by other forums. Didn't work. Told needed firmware upgrade. Unable to find firmware for Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device because as near as I can find it's an OEM Device. Went back to Gateway(Notebook Manufacturer) and they don't have. Any suggestions? Ifu can't fix, I guess u install a new DVD Device or a new Notebook.
Was also told by Gateway I needed a Codec upgrade.
The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/775-klite-codec-pack-full.html
Install and then try running the discs.
How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.
If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

Best contact Dell support.
If there's Hard Disk activity! i would leave it for up to 15 mins.
Dell have their own software that runs at startup and it might just be reconfiguring the system to run correctly with the new Bios.
Windows might also need time to reconfigure.

As you know you'll get some great help here so I'll suggest that he consider an AMD build. For what he wants to do and his budget he can get a very, very nice build especially since he won't be gaming.
Consider the AMD AM3 Propus 620 quad core 2.6 GHz for $99.00 at NewEgg with free shipping and for a few dollars more there is the 630 @ 2.8 Ghz. Both chips are getting great reviews.
I have a QuickCam« Orbit which I use for my course which have been using and it has been working fine until Vista shut down my computer to do updates and once these updates were done I get this error:

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?
Didn't you reply here, and say it worked (after the unusual 9th try ) http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic109612-109.html#post747024
A bios update can't remove passwords. As You Must Know
Oh and thanks for the extended long Title. I'm thinking this Topic of yours would be best removed? What do you think?
Finally got it to boot up and received ...071 cmos battery bad message....070 real time clock error...and memory good message.
So would the cmos be causing the machine to not boot?
The main battery is reading fully charged.
I thought I saw a 1411 service manual somewhere online in order to locate the cmos.
Anyone know the online location of this manual. (possibly at Lenovo?)
Once a cmos is installed can I just start the computer as normal or do I have to go into bios and do something before that happens?
Replace the CMOS battery, then set the bios to default settings. Reset the date and time... The CMOS battery has nothing to do with the main laptop battery. Is this laptop older than 4 years?
Good Evening All,
I having a problem with my Dell Latitude D610.
I went to update the BIOS and it said that the battery is not installed despite the laptop running solely off of battery power!
I have ran the dell device diagnostic and device manager and no issue appears to be with the battery. When you check the battery info in the BIOS settings it says the batteries are not installed and also when you log into XP it constantly says running off of AC power even when its not plugged in!
Any one got any ideas what could be causing this and how it can be solved?
It may be referring to the CMOS battery which is wired to the computer beneath the keyboard. The battery can be replaced for $8.95 to $29.95 depending on where you purchase...
But regardless, you do have a problem that must be resolved. The D610 has been one strange little irrelevant problem after another... but you cannot afford to irritate it and have that mysterious unremovable password appear as it has on so many D610 and D620 Dells.
I got my new rig and its running fine but at start up I have a black screen with those messages for like disabled? Drive DMI? new S.m.a.r.t. to Update utility Hard seconds Im not sure what they mean I did a little googling the first one has to do with amd in a gigabyte mobo I dont know if its Update to new DMI? Hard Drive S.m.a.r.t. utility disabled? anything to be concerned about Oh yeah they messed up at ups and so I am using my bros old case but hey it worls Its been displaying that message since It first booted I have all the latest updates and I used uniblue driver scanner to make sure I have all the latest drives I am also getting to error messages right when windows comes up saying nvpll exe or something like that is not there or something I believe this file has to do with my video card drive wich Update to new DMI? Hard Drive S.m.a.r.t. utility disabled? is also up to date Again it runs seemingly fine not a big problem but id like to know whats going on nbsp
Your bios might need to be tweeked a bit. SMART is a utility that reads the SMART data from your hard drives. It can sense a pending problem with a hard drive. You enable it in the bios under the hard drive detecting area.
DMI is short for Desktop Management Interface, an API (Application Program Interface) to enable software to collect information about a computer environment. For example, using DMI a program can determine what software and expansion boards are installed on a computer... You might try reseting the bios to optimal settings

make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card....what motherboard do you have?
I would just like to revisit one of the posts from yesteryear Entitled Raid Problems and Essential Data Recovery I had a major problem with my HD discs after my motherboard blew When I replaced my motherboard due to the bios not being configured Data Raid Essential Problems 0 solved Recovery and to know how my Raid drives operated I thought I d lost it all - and so did everyone on these forums and my friends BUT after a little use of common sense and hope I got it all back and I did it all by myself Here s the basics I got a cheap IDE HD disc drive I stuck it into my motherboard as the master drive with my Raid ones as they were in the raid slots didn t matter which way round I installed Windows on the IDE drive I bought some software like Runtime Raid Reconstructor I ran that software It detected the Raid drives even though windows couldn t I asked it to perform a configuration test It completed the test and opened my drives I used an external drive to remove Raid 0 Problems and Essential Data Recovery solved all stored data off the Raid drives I eventually removed the IDE drive and formatted the Raid drives ready for a standard configuration and Windows Install I put all my files back Raid 0 Problems and Essential Data Recovery solved on to the Raid drives from my external JOB DONE Now I ain t no tech head right BUT I understood that the concept of openning Raid drives in RAID requires two bits of information Block size Drive priority ie which is first second Any Raid reconstruction software will work out through trail and error what the configuration is of your drives so you can get your data off This isn t a tech heads version of what to do but I was stuck for months last year thinking I d lost it all I of course won the battle and punched the air a fair number of times Hope this helps any of you out there in the troblesome Raid land nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/raid-0-problems-and-essential-data-recovery-solved.134378/
Well I need to know if I have the up-to-date drivers and where I could update them.
go to the manufacturer's website, and find your model's driver - usually in support>drivers
First off System Specs:
Asus G60VX Series Notebook
Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium (Yes, im sure it is 64 bit)
Nvidia GeForceGTX 260M CUDA 1GB
RealTek HD Audio
IF you need to any other specs just ask.
Basically I bought this computer for gaming and several games Ive bought recently wont run so I figured I would update the graphics driver just to be safe and then go from there. I download the installer for the latest nvidia driver just fine, and when I go to install it says Im not running Vista 64-Bit when I clearly am and closes. And when i try the 32bit installer it says it cant find compatible hardware for the drivers, an also untrue statement.
what is the manufacturer of your graphics card? XFX ,EVGA?

With an old laptop like that, I'd suggest going to the manufacturers site and download their latest driver for that unit first. It may be dated but that's OK. You'll know that that driver is supposed to work, and you can continue on from there. Uninstall the old drivers from the add remove programs app. Then uninstall the GPU from device manager. Run a program like Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to clean up any orphaned files before installing the new drivers. If there is a better more nVidia specific program for cleaning the drivers hopefully one of the regulars here will post a link to it. That utility works on both nVidia and ATI drivers. If the downloaded drivers work you can let it go or start slowly upgrading to newer drivers till you find one you are happy with. There's not really any way to lock a driver. You might be looking at a dying GPU also so keep that in mind.
One other thing. When you reboot after uninstalling the device and drivers and reboot, keep closing the little "found new hardware" balloons in the lower right corner till you get a message "there was a problem loading drivers for this device". That stops the OS from installing generic drivers.
