trouble playing burned dvd's

Q: trouble playing burned dvd's

I have a Emachine that runs Windows Vista. I have very little experience with computers. I can load videos from my camera's SD card onto my computer and then burn onto a DVD disc, but it will not play on my home DVD player. I need to know if there is a special program that I should get to format my home videos so that they will play on my dvd player which is a Sony DVD Recorder model#GX255. I have a choice of to formatting options when I burn onto a disc of Live File System or USB Flash Drive. Again this may be nothing to do with it I just need some HELP Thank You!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

To play your videos on your home dvd player they need to converted into a specific format and file structure, then burned to dvd. This process is known as authoring and there are many dvd authoring programs available. On such program is DVD Flick which is free and can be downloaded from here

I've asked this question before...for my son. Now I'm asking for me.....

Does anybody have any tips on brands of music cd-r disks,or hints for burning that may help?............

The music cd's I burn don't play well in some cd players (specifically, my 7 year old SAAB cd player)......after about the 3rd or 4th track, they begin to pause and 'stick'. The first couple of tracks are fine, but the 7th track on won't even play.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the disks and it's the player that's the problem. If so......never mind. However, 'store bought' cds play just fine.

Just thought I'd throw this out and see what kinda discussion I could generate.

I have burned some avi files onto DVD and when I play them in my new DVD player, they work for a while and then it freezes. It happened on my old DVD player too. Also, sometimes it finds difficulty in reading the indexes.

What could be causing this? Any tips?

A:Burned DVD's not playing well

The players probably don't support AVI files. I've never used AVI files, so I don't know much to tell you. I have read though that most people have to convert them to dvd files.
That's all I know about them. Sorry.........

This happens when i play it on the computer too. And the cd players and speakers work on both things i tried the cd on.

Hello, For the first time, so I am new at this, I downloaded an album from Napster onto a CD, and even though the disk shows all the songs, it seems it only plays one at a time, seems to cut off in the middle of the songs, sometimes starting back up for a few seconds and sometimes not all all. If I manually click on a certain song, it will play but the same things happen. Shouldn't I be able to just put this in an play the whole thing? I'm using Jukebox. Any suggestions? Thanks

I burned 6 movie-length avi files onto a dvd-r disc, and only the first file plays in my dvd player, even though the dvd player has read the disc correctly, as it displays the 6 titles correctly on the menu page. I burned many shorter avi files and another movie length avi file onto another disc and the same dvd player plays all the files with no problems. I used Nero both times, and the same type of discs, in fact all the variables are the same as far as I can see. I tried burning just one of the movie length avi files onto a disc, and varying the burn speed, but nothing worked. Can anyone help? Thanks!!

It went fine. I can play it on my computer. But I can't play it on my dvd player, sony or Mintek. Someone told me you have to switch from wmv file to mpg file for the dvd player to read the burned dvd. Is this true? If so, how do I change the file.

I have been having trouble burning DVDs that will play on a regular DVD player. They play perfectly for about 15 minutes then start skipping and freezing and finally stop completely. These same DVDs will play perfectly the whole way through on a computer or XBox 360. I have used numerous software programs and 2 different DVD burners because I thought something was wrong with my hardware. Now I don't think the problem ever was the hardware because I replaced my drive with a Sony Optiarc and then bought another Sony Optiarc just in case I had a bad one. I am out of ideas so any help would be appreciated.

For years I have been able to import CDs which I have burned on my home stereo from vinyl and other sources. Now that I have iTunes 11.0.1, whenever I try to do this I get a message that I have inserted a blank disc. I have a large collection of these burned disks, and would like to import most of them into itunes and put them on my ipod, but haven't been able to do so since updating iTunes to 11.0.1. Thanks in advance for any insights/solutions.
.... I have even put in CDs that I had imported previously, and am still told that I have inserted a blank disk, though the music from the first time i imported it has always been available, and the disk plays everywhere else. And purchased cd's play and download fine.

A:Trouble Importing burned CDs to iTunes 11.0.1

Most likely a new DRM scheme in the new version which doesn't like your burned media as it can be identified. You could simply RIP the discs with other software and then import the titles directly from the HDD.

Have you tried rebooting the computer then trying to read the CD in Windows Explorer? Files burned to a CD-R usually aren't erasable, a CD-RW is ReWriteable, can be erased and used again. If wanting to work on stored files it'd be best to use a USB Thumb/Flash drive or Copy the files from a CD-R back onto the HDD.

2 Weeks ago I started having problems copying and pasting files/folders in windows XP Pro to my Hard drive. Some of my games will not even install properly anymore that I have installed before that worked. It's not my CD-RW drive, as I just bought a new LG 3 days ago.

The errors I get are:

"Error: Invalid MS-Dos command" when I paste and:
"Error: Invalid Parameters" When copying and pasting a file from cd to HD. With instalations it just tells me that a certain file can not be read or installed and the instalation cancels.

PLEASE HELP! I don't want to resolve to formatting.

Thanks in Advance :)

PS. I installed software/Drivers for my Sony MD Player just before I started having these problems.

A:Sudden Trouble Reading Files/folders off Burned Cds

A really basic trick, try uninstalling the new cdrom completely, even disconnect the IDE cable and plug the old one back in. See if the old one works correctly, if so uninstall it totaly, and then reinstall the new one. I'm thinking it may be a device driver error sneaking in on a legacy device driver. As allways, check device manager for errors, and event viewer for informaion.

I'm in the process of calibrating my subwoofer and want to make a CD audio disc of bass frequencies from this site ( The download contains many MP3 files. I burned the files to a CD and the CD plays on my computer but doesn't play on my Panasonic BD-85. I really doin't understand what's happening as I have burned music on a CD and that plays on the BD-85. I'm sure that I am doing something wrong, but don't know what it is.

A:Trouble getting burned files to play on bluray player?

If they are MP3 files, does the Blu-Ray player play MP3 files? That may be the problem and if it is, you will have to convert them to wav files and then burn a standard "audio" CD.

However, the MP3 files concern me as they are not full fidelity and if you are trying to calibrate something you need the full fidelity audio signal. Converting an MP3 to wav will not restore full fidelity, it can only be as good as the MP3 file is. If the site you are downloading from has wav files, download and use them, bypass the MP3 files (which are "something less" than full fidelity).

I have a recording studio so I'm well attuned to fidelity of audio/music files.

Minor issue here. I have a lite on dvd recorder that came with a nero 6. Recently I upgraded to nero 7 ultra and now I notice that when I playback a burned dvd in my dvd player that it cannot fast forward over 2x the speed. It simply freezes up then return to the original menu. Before I could fast forward a scene up to 8x the speed(the maximum of my dvd player).
I tried changing the settings just before I burn my dvd. First making sure that it was a the maximum setting. Then i tried to change the write speed setting to 8x. No change. Like I said this is minor but I was wondering if this is a glitch with nero 7 ultra or did upgrading somehow change a setting or what? Thnks!

Yet, it will play on my standalone DVD player hooked up to the TV.

#1 - you're running an old computer with not enough memory. "Windoze" is a memory hog. Have at least 512MB of memory when using windows. "Windoze" uses at least 200mb of memory for itself - that doesn't leave much for your games or other programs.

#2 - your graphics card sucks. Most games today eat lots of memory in graphics processing alone. You need an AGP card that at least has 128 MB of onboard memory.

Many games today will struggle with computers that run less than 1 ghz on the CPU. But if you really beef up the graphics card say to 256MB card , you might swing it. The memory onboard the graphics card will alleviate some CPU processing.
You need more memory on both the motherboard and the graphics card!

I have a 1.2ghz computer with 512mb memory and a 128mb ATI card. It runs most new games to include doom 3 - not at the highest resolutions, but still very playable. My newest computer is an athlon 2500+XP with 1.5 gigs of memory and a 128MB NVIDIA card, it runs DOOM 3 great even at high resolutions.

hi there!
First of all, iam just a member who uses this forum since today. I will provide some information that might help with your problems, though note that iam not a professional and that i cant and wont give you a 100% secure solution! I will just try my best!

Reading through your post I think you have already reinstalled vista, so there shouldne be any unsaved personal files on you pc. If not, save them somewhere else if you can.

Getting drivers back for a laptop can be quite a hazard. First you should check the toshiba site and get all the help and drivers you can for you laptop!

If you still miss some functions, I would get drivermax. Its a programm that compares your drivers with the drivers from other people on the net. drivermax will upload your profile to its servers and it will upload any drivers, which are newer than the ones in their database.
Also you can check for the newest drivers for your hardware via drivermax and download them from their database, note that downloads are limited if you are a free member! The limit is 2 per day!

I personally use the software to check for new drivers and then, if I cant find them on the net myself (ie nVidia and ATI drivers are easy to find) I use drivermax.

Another nice thing about the software is that you can export copys of all your drivers from you pc, so you can easily import them with drivermax after a reinstall.

Hope the information helped a little!

A:Trouble playing games!Plz Help

Your PC has an extremely limited on-board integrated video card. While some games can indeed play on it, newer games are designed for true gaming 3d cards. Integrated video cards like the Intel's are best suited for mainly desktop/surfing the net and running Office.

On top of this, most Dell Dimensions aren't easily upgradeable if you wish to add 3d/modern gaming capability. They lack an AGP slot inside, so this severely limits your choices for upgrading to a new 3d card. They also often have a very limited power supply- so it's possible you may need to also upgrade this in order to have enough power for a new videocard.

That being said- Dell Dimension 3000's do have PCI slots, so a few aftermarket 3d cards can be installed cheaply by disabling the on-board video and installing a PCI 3dcard. :knock:

You can find the following PCI cards on sites like
ATI Radeon 9250
NVidia FX5500
NVidia 6200

It's important to be 100% sure you're getting the PCI version of these cards and NOT AGP or PCI-E.

If you're planning on performing this, you should also check your power supply. This can be done by opening the case and looking near the top/back inside the case. They usually have a sticker listing what WATTAGE they are rated at. I'd hope yours is at least 250 Watt, which should be just enough for the above upgrades. If it's a 180 Watt, I would recommend a new power supply (likely from Dell) as well.

We're having some trouble playing some .mov files that are several years old. We're running 10.4.11 with QT 7.4.1. I'm told a friend of the user was able to play these files on her machine without a hitch; however, she has QT 7.2.

These files were rendered from AfterEffects, in QT format, using Sorenson 3 compression/codec. Under "More Info" for one of these files I have the following info:

Codecs: Flash, TIFF
Encoding software: Adobe Photoshop 7.0

I've also tried playing these files on DivX and MPlayer, no luck. I don't consider downgrading to QT 7.2 to be an option.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if anybody could help me with my problem with playing mpgs. When i play the mpg in any player like quicktime or windows media player the mpeg will play but it only plays for a minute and 9 seconds, but the whole movie length should be 30 min. but if i click any where on the control bar (on the bottom ,one that controls place in movie) it will go to that point in the movie but continue playing for only for the remainder of the 69 seconds. I dont know whats up if any one could help me that would be great.

I am having trouble playing files with the mpeg fileextension. When played in windows media player 8 it says "unable to play the file. format not supported" and when played in bsplayer it says "unknown file format ()". I suspect that there is some codec missing, but I dont know which or where to find it.

All .avi (divx, xvid etc) files play correctly. I have installed codecs to handle them.

I would like some advice about what the problem can be, and how to solve it.

Thank you!
/ Nelson

I downloaded the latest adobe flash and that didnt help, the video appears to load but just never starts playing. So I installed the latest drivers for my device which was the Intel HD 5500 and the videos started playing and working fine but once I shut down my laptop and turn it back on they dont work again and then I have to go through the process of installing the drivers again. How can I fix this so I dont have to install new drivers on every reboot?

Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

My D Drive recogonizes the DVD and can read it to tell me what it is but just won't play it.

I did some reading and then downloaded the free version of DivX and still can't get it to play.

Iam useing an E machine with windows xp. I have 4 other computers in the house and do not have this problem with high stakes pool . I can play all the other pogo games ok on this computer.

A:Having trouble playing Highstake Pool On Pogo.

Have you tried deleting the applet and letting it reinstall when you re-enter the game? If you are running Sun Java, the files should be located in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME HERE\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar

Make sure your browser is closed. Look for the one that starts off with pool2 and highlight both the zip file and the .idx file and delete them both. Open your browser again and try going to the game again, the applet will reload.

Sometimes those applets get corrupted and need to be deleted and they will reinstall when you re-enter the game

I have been having trouble with Lottso for the past few days, and you are right about Pogo's support, there is none. It was playing fine and now all of a sudden it freezes midgame. I am going to drag out my laptop tomorrow and see if it plays ok on that.

Update to the problem with Lottso. Tried turning the sound off for the game and not once has it frozen all day and I played in several different rooms too. So looks like Pogo has some issues with the sound files with this game.

I have a memory card camcorder that records video as .ASF files (MPEG4 I think too) and until now have had no problem playing back the video files that I have recorded.

I've recently had to do a full system wipe of my computer due to various issues. Now I have a bang up to date version of Windows Media Player 10 as well as all the codecs packs. However the .ASF videos just won't play properly, the videos stop and start every second with huge gaps in between each frame. Windows Media Player also crashes with playing these files, I tried RealPlayer which also delivers exactly the same results.

I'm totally stuck with what to do,

Thanks for any help you will be able to give me in advance,

A:Trouble playing ASF files and Windows Media Player

Sounds like it might be a codec problem. Do a google search for a program called gspot (you can guess why I won't do one at work -.-;; ) It opens a file and reads what codec's its trying to use. Giving that output about the audio and video codec would let us know what those files are using in particular and can hunt down a way to fix it.

Hi there,
I recently acquired a new Lenovo laptop (with Windows 8) and transferred all of my files onto it. However, when I am attempting to play either Ultimate and Final Doom, or Doom 2 (Windows 1995 games), I am encountering problems upon launching the game. Just before the game loads, I am presented with the following message:
"Doom95 was unable to access the video card - check your DirectX installation! ( Error 100 ) "
I looked online for a solution, but I cannot find anything specific, although I see that adjusting the resolution may work. When adjusting to any resolution, however, I am still facing the same error. Would it be possible to get around it somehow? *Note that I was able to play the games previously on Windows 7.
Any help/advice offered would be greatly appreciated!

I recently purchased a heatpipe cooler for my cpu(xp 1800), it came with some blue stuff on the bottom which I mistook for thermal tape(I know I am an idiot), no display. I tested the video card and it still displays. The system turns on and runs but there is no diplay. I am pretty sure my CPU is cooked but I would like to make sure there are no other options. Also the computer was only on for a few seconds, and there were no burn marks on the top of the chip. I know my BIOS has the thermal protection which shuts off the comp if the cpu goes above a certian temp, but does that work before the bios boots up?

Main question, can you fry a chip in a second or two with a thin piece of plastic between the heatsink and chip?

A:Got Spy-Burned

Go here and follow the directions to download and run the trial version of KAV 5 Personal with the extended database. Be sure that you take your time and be careful to follow the directions exactly as given there.
Go here and download Microsoft Antispyware Beta. First in the top menu click File then Check for updates to download the definitons updates.

After updating look in the right side of the main window under "Run Quick Scan Now" and click Spyware scan options. In that window put a tick by Run a full system scan and then put a check by all three options below that then click Run Scan now.

When the scan is finished, let it fix anything that it finds. Have it quarantine the items that have that option rather than delete just in case.

Restart your computer.

After you have done that, post the log from the KAV scan along with a new Hijack This log.

Hi, I was trying to burn a 2.8gb ISO file to a 4.7gb DVD using Nero Burning ROM 10.

I created a bootable DVD from the selector menu, I then dragged the file in and this message came up:

Does anybody know why this is what else I can do, the file is an ISO and it has to be bootable, as you can see it is a developer preview for Windows 8, just want to see whats its like haha.

A:ISO can't be burned, over 2gb

developer preview for windows 8? Wasn't aware those were available yet. Where'd you get it from?

My burned DVD's will work on my pc but will not on my PS2 ? How can I update PS2 to read the disc ? Can I use USB ports on my PS2 to d-load neccessary software ?

A:Burned DVD and PS2

I had the same issue before and came to the conclusion that it was due to the discs i used. Do you have a normal PS2 or is it chipped? i have a magic chip in mine, so maybe this is needed to play a copied dvd. (i'm not sure on that)

I had a CD and A CDRW on a P 233 Gateway. They both quit working. Gateway Tech diagnosed bad Mobo.

I built a new machine. CDRW didn't work. CD Rom worked a few days and quit.

CD Rom is recognized in Bios, shows under control panel, clicking on it shows it's working properly. Primary and secondary controllers show ok. Switching IDE's doesn't help.

Everything says the CD Rom is fine, but when you click on run it says it's not accessible. I assume it's fried.

Are there any contrary opinions and is it repairable (by me). Could a bad mobo allowed a surge to kill them?

A:CD Burned?

Try booting from a 98 startup disk with cdrom support and see if you can read cd's. The startup disk uses dos mode drivers, if that doesn't work you can safely assume they got fried. I'm assuming you have them jumpered correctly, tried different IDE cables, etc.

Hi All,

Hope someone can help please!
I had a MP4 file that I converted to a mpeg file using video converter.
I then burned the file to a DVD disk.
I want to watch on my dvd player.
The file works fine and is watchable until a certain stage but then stops. I have tried with 3 different files and the same thing happens with all.
Am I doing something wrong please? Please help.

Thanks in advance.

A:Burned DVD

Could it be the Video Converter software that you are using that might be causing the issue? Have you tried different software that does conversions yet? How old is the DVD player that you are using? Most modern (last 5 years or so) DVD / Bluray players can play MP4 format files. Also, does your DVD player have a USB plug? If so, you can try to put the MP4 file on a USB stick and see if it will read / play that way.

I have several extra copies of CDs (burned from the original). Sometimes when I use one of them the computer will show them as audio CD's. This does not happen with every computer I try them on. Any ideas to rectify this would be appreciated.

A:Burned CD's

this problem was in a previous post, and the culprit was old CD-ROM drives that can't read certain types of burned CD-R (ie 2x, 4x etc) So either brun at 1x or use newer CD-ROM drives

Just remember, i could be wrong.

Ok tell me what you think I just had to bring my comp to the shop because of a few issues XP would not load comp would not turn on--you know the easy stuff so I at my girlfriends request her computer I brought it into the shop to see what the heck is wrong with it I just got the call this morning that the power supply is bad ok easy fix and that the ram MB is burned out causing the other problems HUH A little background information I recently bought UT and strated gaming on the machine As I m typing this I m starting to laugh at myself for being so stupid It has an Integrated Extreme Graphics chip as part of Burned my out RAM how????? the mobo MD - nVidia and the game loaded fine with little to no lag at all in game play Could the game have blown the ram Could it in effect also blown out the power supply AM I a complete for thinking I could do this to a over the counter eMachine AMD Athlon G dead nbsp

A:Burned out my RAM how?????

p/s killed ram.

Shakesbeer said:

I just got the call this morning that the power supply is bad (ok easy fix) and that the ram (512MB) is burned out causing the other problems...HUH!Click to expand...

Simply put, the P/S went blewie and took her RAM out with it (surge).

I'd be very surprised if it didn't damage the CPU and drives as well (anything connected to the p/s).

The game had nothing to do with it. Either the drive was overloaded (not enough wattage to support all her hardware), not cooling (dead or blocked fan in the p/s) or was hit with a power surge (no surge protector).

I have a ? but I do not know it if it belongs in this forum or not so here it goes .
I recently received 4 " burned cd's " with valuable medical info, learning tools, and applications. My ? is ,is
it possible to make backups.I don't want to distribute them,
I just want to be prepared in case any thing happens.Do I treat this like a normal cd or does it need special handling.
The only thing I know how to burn is toast or treat one. A web reference or a point in the right direction ,would be appreciated.

As always beyond grateful,
Cadaver Queen

Got a LiteOn dvd burner last week.......
I burned about fifty pics on one dvd+r and now I wish to burn more pics on the same dvd, since there is much room left and I do like to save money.
Unfortunately the nero software I am using will not allow this, am I doing something wrong or are dvd-r & dvd+r a one time deal?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe that's how it works with DVD's. If you want multisession stick with CD-R's.

I have some burned cd's that I have accumulated over the years. Pictures, songs, data, etc... They seem to play ok in my cd rom at work and in my sisters pc. I recently bought a hewlett packard Vectra vl p-3 650 mghz. It has a skinny cd rom like a laptop but it does not play the burned cd's it sounds like it starts to spin then winds down then spins then winds down again again again. It plays all my games and stuff fine though. My questiopn is is my cd rom going bad or is it bad or whut? any feedback will be appreciated muchly. Thanks from BudBoy

I have a nice CD burner on my PC and can burn CDs a variety of ways (windows media player, musicmatch jukebox, real player, sonic dvd/cd burner, etc.). It seems that no matter what method I use the CD will play great on my PC but won't play well in my car (lexus rx300 with the premium sound system). I have been told that if the data is good the CD should play just as well anywhere but they don't do well in the car. They play for a bit (and sounding fine) and then blank out. It sounds like the reader is trying to get the data as it will sporadically play but will then skip to next track and sometimes even to the next CD.

Thoughts, ideas solutions?

My company has recently bought a new CDRW 16x10x40 and I am using a freeware Nero v 5

My question is all my burned CD cannot be read at my home PC. My old PC is P266mmx. Is this because of it's old?

Hey guys I am new to this forum so I apologize for just coming in and telling you my problem expecting an answer But I was really Crashed, PSU Burned? desperate and now I need to know if the action I took was PSU Crashed, Burned? correct and be certain PSU Crashed, Burned? my computer will not burn out on me in two days Here is how it all started I brought this computer that was not going to be used at work anymore didn t even know the specs but from how it looked it just needed a bit of cleaning So I got him and the first thing that I did was try it out but I didn t have enough space on my desk to put it somewhere else so I placed it right next to my first computer could not even fit a needle in between so there was no gap Well it worked fine I saw the specs were pretty cool Ghz blah blah So after that I decide to turn on my computer well when I switch back all the cables and try to turn it on well my computer just turned on and off on and off repeatedly I went ahead and opened it up to see what was going on still did the same thing it got to the point where it would not turn on at all so I immediately thought the PSU went wrong even though I bought it a year ago maybe placing it so close messed it up So I switched PSU s thankfully they were the same specs same watts and everything Now my computer works fine but in the back of head I think PSU Crashed, Burned? it will stop fuctioning and don t exactly know what went wrong thus i have a question Can really placing the two computers so close together and turning one on mess up the PSU or any other components of the computer next to it Do you guys think what i did was right and will I encounter any problems Sorry I know my post is a little long but I am somewhat desperate any feedback is greatly appreciated Thanks Paul grinthumb nbsp

A:PSU Crashed, Burned?

i am not sure if the proximity to the other system was the issue.. i think that it was heat and bad ventilation was the culprit here. do the systems have ample room in the rear of the system to cycle air out the back and not have it stay ambient in the back for a long period of time.. ? if not then you had the same problem one of my friends did.. he had two systems side by side and they were only like a foot away from the wall and on the ground as well.. then one day one system just shut down then turned it back on just to have it turn off again.. felt the back top part of the system and dang near burned my hand the power supply had burned out from the heat generated by both systems..not good.. so to answer your question yes it could happen.. in your case i think you have proven that one TRUE

Ok..this is just really frustrating. I'm using Nero 5.5 with windows xp. I have burned about 10 cd's and when I play the cd using windows media, it doesn't populate the name of the songs or the artist. All it states it Track 1, track 2....etc. How can I get it to populate what I just burned. I will say the very first cd I burned, it did populate and since then it hasn't. I can listen to the cd with no problem but it just gets frustrating. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
