I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

you shouldn't need a card if you get connectivity to at least 1 network.
You have an encryption issue. You should be able to connect to open networks.

I am looking for a wireless card that can utilize the 5.0 ghz band on my router.  Looking at the whitelisted card options, I don't see any that are 5.0 ghz.  Does that mean I one doesn't exist that will work in my laptop?  Thanks in advance.

Hello guys, I need help configuring my wireless internet on my Desktop PC.

I have went through control panel and network settings, unable to find out how to connect to my wired/wireless router. I am wired right now but need wireless for other purposes. I think i am in need of some drivers, but I can not find them anywhere, I have a custom version of XP installed and I think it might be the problem because at the HP website the drivers are for Vista.

Does anyone have a clue whats wrong?

Hi, Is there a dual band wireless adapter I can put in my Pavilion dv6 (product # A3E86AAR#ABA)? The current adapter installed (Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b|g|n WiFi Adapter) doesn't work very good and is not compatible with 5 GHz. If there is one available how do I make sure I buy the correct/compatible model/part number? Thanks,Brad

Hi all! I have a Pavilion g6-2305sl notebook bought about three years ago, which came with a RaLink RT5390R 802.11b/g/n Wireless adapter. I would like to upgrade to an ac wireless adapter, for example Intel ac7260, but i can't find the whitelisted devices list for my notebook anywhere. Any help? Thank you.

A:pavilion g6-2305sl whitelisted devices for wireless card

Hi: The approved list of wireless adapters can be found in chapter 3, page 24 of the service manual for your notebook. Your model series was the last of those made by HP. It is remotely possible that there is no BIOS whitelist in your notebook, but I can't say for sure. If you have any HMC form factor wireless card laying around, or you can take one from another notebook, you can check it in your notebook, and if you don't get an unsupported wireless card BIOS halt on boot error, you can safely assume you can install an Intel 7260 dual band N or AC card in your notebook, since it has an Intel 3rd gen processor and series 7 chipset.

I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 Laptop running Windows Vista and have owned since 2007 but it has been working fairly well with problem here and there that i could fix. But recently I have been browsing the internet and in the like 20 minutes after browsing the web the switch for the wireless connection goes orange (usually happens when you turn the switch off) but the switch has not been turned to the off position at that time and the connection where it says currently connected to it say limited connectivity. Does anyone have any ideas what this problem could be.

A side note* is that recently my subscription to Webroot Antivirus with Spy Sweeper has expired and not active but i don't know why it would affect my wireless connection.

My Hp Pavilion DV9000 has worked great for the last two years. Sunday night I was using the built in wireless internet and then I went through the normal shutdown procedures. I turned it on Monday morning and now my wireless indicator light stays amber and it says I do not have a wireless card adapter installed and configured. I went to and downloaded the driver and I talked with an hp tech online about it and then unplugged the laptop, took out the battery, and reseated the wireless card and antennas. It still will not work and says that the isn't a card installed or configured. Reading on the internet I have learned that this is actually a huge problem with the DV9000 and DV6000 and the only advice I have read is to either buy a new motherboard or buy a new adapter all together.Anyone else have any advice?

I have a HP Pavilion DV6000 for about two years now. Everything has been working great on it until this afternoon. I flashed it up per normal and noticed the wireless light did not switch to blue and that the bottom right taskbar showed no internet connection is available.

After checking the modem and router, which are good, still no luck. I restored the laptop to a previous date and still no go. Did find out that it appears that no driver is detected but that makes no sense as it was there yeaterday.

Few questions here if I may.  Old computer died and on tight budget.  Considering the one I have listed below due to features and cost.   1.  I called HP and they state GE Force 730 will work on it as will Radeon RS 730.  Any preference on those 2? 2.  Can we add an ethernet card?  I ask because on last computer that actually went out on the motherboard so we had to add one. 3.  Overall do think the 489.99 is a good price for this? 4.  We do play games some online games on the computer as well as use it for routine home use.  Does this have enough power to do that? TY in advance for all your help.  My family and I appreciate it.

I've got used HP Pavilion 6475Z. The hard drive was formatted. So there was no operation system. Of course a master CD didn't come with the computer. So I installed Windows 98 SE. But the windows got no driver for the network card. I looked in the device manager to see what kind of network card was installed. But no lack. Is anyone know how to find out what kind of network card is installed?

A:Network card in HP Pavilion

There's a few thing you can do to determine who made the card - one is open the computer up and look at the network card for a manufacture and model number.

The next thing is get Everest Home Edition:
And look under Devices - Physical Devices for it. It might be listed as Network, LAN or Ethernet.

Hi: There can be more than one model wlan card HP could have installed in your notebook. Please post the hardware ID for the device you see listed in the device manager as a Network Controller, so I can figure out what model wireless card your notebook came with. To find the hardware ID, click on the Network Controller device in the device manager. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Which HP Pavillion do you have?

I use vista, but with the wireless assistant, make sure to check that the "status" is "on". Seems like a stupid answer, but is often overlooked.

Another thing that is easy to miss is the light (blue for on) that lets you know if you are connected. This is an easy one to miss. The first thing I do is to either unplug my router for about 20 mins or so, or just pressing the reset button. My router must have 4 blue lights showing.

When in doubt - un-plug. Reboot. Plug-in.

I hope that this may have helped you in some way.

I have HP Pavilion M9515Y bought "off the shelf" with integrated graphics. Seems the cooling doesn't work now. After the system is up for about 20 minutes, I can hear the fans start to surge, then the monitor shuts off.

I'm hoping a semi-cheap video add in card with roughly the same or a bit better performance would bypass the issue. The only card I've added to the system is an SIIG USB 3.0 card

I have an old CRT monitor that I share between 2 PCs using a kvma switch. So if the card has an SVGA connector that would be even better.

Anyone have any candidate cards?

edit: Never mind. Seems this is a dedicated video card. I'll just R&R with a cheapie.

I have had this computer for 3 years now and the internet card has started to give me problems. It will randomly go to limited connectivity mostly when I am just browsing the internet and most of that time when I am either downloading something or streaming on youtube. The catch is that it will sometimes fix it self, but most times I have to restart my computer. It almost seems as if it can't handle the activity and is turning it self off.

I need to add a graphics card to a 7 year old p6213w.  I'm ignorant in this area.  Is it possible on this old computer?  Do I need to be concerned with monitor compatability?  It has DVI, HDMI and VGA ports.  Can I buy any graphics card?  Is desktop mode or OS an issue?  I have seen cards for $29 at Walmart to $700 at HP.  What's the difference?

I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate on my HP Pavilion a1110n, but I can't enable the aero, can someone tell me which graphics card I need?

A:Video card for HP Pavilion a1110n

alexmolinavr6 welcome to the Seven Forums.

The reason you can't enable Aero is due to the age of the onboard graphics (Intel 845G) is that it physically doesn't have the necessary hardware support for Aero. Now for the full specs on that HP of yours,

HP Pavilion a1110n Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion a1110n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

and the motherboard in it,

Motherboard Specifications, P4GV-LA (Guppy) HP Pavilion a1110n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

It only has PCI slots which severely limits what can go in it. Personally I wold live without Aero for now until you get a new computer that is fully Windows 7 compatible, but if you have to have Aero I wouldn't go for anything more or less than one of these (more costs to much and less doesn't have the support), - EVGA 256-P1-N400-LR GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Video Card

Hello, I've wanted to upgrade my PC's GFX card for a very long time and just learned that it IS in fact possible to upgrade, but if the card is too powerful I will need to upgrade everything else as well. I have never attempted upgrading a PC before, but My dv6 has a GeForce GT 320M GPU card and I would like to upgrade because I want to play games without having a large amount of lag. Is it possible for me to upgrade to a higher GPU without having to replace everything else inside of my computer? And which of these Cards would I be able to upgrade to?(again I am very new to this): Thank you for listening

A:HP Pavilion Dv6 Graphics Card Upgrade help

Hate to burst your bubble but no it is not possible to upgrade. Not sure where you got that information. The video chip in the laptop is soldered to the motherboard. There is no place to put a video "card". I also don't think there is a dv6 with a GT 320M or that such is a "thing".

Hey Cheezomlet, I assume you need drivers for Windows 10 and probably know by now that there are no Windows 10 drivers available for that chipset.   I really think you should consider going back to a previous OS if you need the discrete GPU. -wes

A:Can I upgrade my HP Pavilion's graphics card?

Can you verify that this is your actual unit?  Have you looked inside? According to HP, it's has an external 65W power supply, similiar to a laptop brick.  The motherboard is a Mini -ITX, with  1 PCI Express half-length mini card socket (like a laptop). The CPU is soldered onto the board, and the Integrated graphics: AMD Radeon R5 Series is embedded into the chip.  This motherboard does not have a PCIE slot on any type, and a PCIEx16 is required for the R7 card.

Mark, welcome to the forum. Yes, I believe that your motherboard should be compatible with the video card.  The card requires UEFI in the motherboard and your motherboard should have it.  Just be aware that the specifications for the card state that it only requires a power supply unit (PSU) with 300W.  Many members have reported that it is more like 400W.  You can try it with the current PSU, but if it doesn't work I suggest one made by Corsair.  I recommend at least 500W. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

A:Hp pavilion h8-1020 and a new graphics card

@Scottperkins?, welcome to the forum. The problem that you are experiencing is caused by the fact that the GTX 970 requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI.  The last cards not to require UEFI were the GTX 660/670's. The GTX 750Ti requires UEFI, also. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I've got a wireless ADSL router with 4 ethernet ports. I've a desktop using XP and connected via ethernet and a laptop running windows 98 connected using a wireless PC Card. I can connect to the internet from both machines but can't get them to see each other.

Laptop says it can't browse the network. I tried the network setup wizard in XP and created a disk when prompted. Tried disk in 98 and rebooted when prompted. On startup, wizard said it couldn't find network card and couldn't continue.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

A:Wireless ADSL router, XP Home connected via cable, Win 98 via wireless card - HELP!!!

Checklist for networking Windows Machines with TCP/IP
- PCs which are not XP must have TCP/IP installed.
- Each PC must have a unique computer name.
- Each PC must have a network share defined.
- ALL NICS must be on the same subnet (e.g. IP 192.168.0.* subnet mask
- XP PCs must have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (only essential for XP to talk to W9X PCs).
- MS Client and file & printer sharing must be enabled on each machine.
- All NICs must have their node type = anything except p-node (peer to peer, or point-point).
* To check, open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL.
- XP's ICF firewall is permanently disabled. (Only necessary for pre XP SP2).
- All 3rd party firewalls are disabled, uninstalled and deleted (until connection is working).
- PCs have the same workgroup (helps, but not essential for XP/2K, necessary for 9X/ME).

Allow 15 mins after rebooting a PC for that PC to appear in the workgroup, or
for it to see all other PCs. Or you can search for the PC by its computer name.
Additional things to check if you still have problems:
- Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.
- XP gives access to its shares via the Net Guest Account. (Note, not the same as the local guest account in user accounts which should be off). Net Guest Account is enabled by default in XP, but to check it, open a command prompt and type: NET USER GUEST
Should return a line with 'Account active yes'.
Check XP Security policies:
- Access this computer from the network: add guest
- Deny logon locally: remove guest
- Network access:Sharing and security model... -> Guest only
- Deny access to this computer from the network-> check Guest is not here.

Hi: Most of the time, an Intel wireless card won't work in a notebook with an amd processor and chipset. You can try it as long as your notebook has two antenna leads to connect to the card. The worse that can happen is it won't work. If you want a dual band wireless N card with bluetooth for your notebook that will work (as long as you have 2 antenna leads), then use the Broadcom dual band card. Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 22 Wi-Fi Adapter, Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter for use on all computer models  HP Part # 730668-001

A:HP Pavilion 15 Notebook: NO wireless adapter listed!

Hey @Kj1234 ,Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you're experiencing issues with connectivity on your Pavilion 15 notebook, and the adapter is not listed in Device Manager. A lot of the time when a device is not listed Windows doesn't have a driver for the hardware or the hardware has failed. The problem with this is, without the device listed in Device Manager it's hard to tell what driver to install. Open up Device Manager and click View at the top and select Show hidden devices. Look for a field called Other devices. Expand it and see if ther's any Unknown devices. If there is, do the following:Right click the deviceSelect PropertiesGo to the Details tabChange the drop down menu to Hardware IdsProvide me with the first ID in the listOnce I have this ID I should be able to find you the correct driver. Thanks. I look forward to your reply!

Hi there,  I have no previously experienced any issue with this laptop and its wifi connectivity, however, after starting the laptop the wifi button did not turn blue as it usually does on start up. It did not turn blue afer pressing it either, and my wireless drivers are up to date currently.  Does anyone have any solutions to this issue? I would very much appreciate the help.  Please let me know if you need any more details.  Phoebe.

I just reloaded win7 32-bit on a new HDD on this machine, the LAN drriver installed but none of the 4 wireless drivers listed on their site installs:
I went to PCI Database and searched for the correct Network Controller driver [Vendor 10EC and Device 8176 which led me to this here:
I removed the three x64 files from the win7-l1c- folder on the desktop and pointed to it but it is saying "driver not found", help please?

Hello. I may have turned of my wireless capability accidentally by clicking a combination during a game. I used google to fix this problem but nothing helped yet. Some solutions that I have found and tried already:- turned on my laptop and clicked F10 & F9 (default pop up I clicked no)- Network and Sharing Center / Change adapter settings / right click enable (wireless icon)- configure / Power Management/ Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power (deactivated)Nothing helped yet. The windows network diagnostics still says "Turn on wireless capability".I use the HP Pavilion 15-p204ng and Windows 7 (64 bit). I hope someone can help me please!

A:HP Pavilion dv6000 Vista Wireless Connection

theres a known issue on that adapter and vista - have a read here at some solutions - usually a driver will resolve
Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007

Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

If you post a reply here with the Make and EXACT model of your PC, along with the windows version you are running. we will see if we can find a link to the driver and will post a reply with the link here.

--- 3) On one occasion re-setting the router back to factory default and re-configuring the router settings has resolved the issue

--- 4) The majority of members, have now used the drivers from the atheros driver site, which has resolved the issue.
- see below for direct links for windows vista and the link for all Atheros adapters and supported operating systems
Vista 32 / 64 Bit
Direct link Drivers for Atheros AR5007 and Windows Vista 32 / 64 bit
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started
Vista 32 / 64 Bit
Direct link Drivers for Atheros AR5007EG and Windows Vista 32 / 64 bit
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started
Drivers for the other windows operating system
You need to look down the page for your particular adapter model and then look across the columns to find your windows version.
Now click on the blue tick mark in the column under your windows version.
This will open another page for that particular adapter and that windows version.

Now click on the download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started

Assuming that after all the above the wireless still does not connect to the internet, all I can suggest is to use wireless security of WEP or to get an external USB wireless card.

Please post a reply here , and keep us informed of the situation and how you finally resolved the issue.

To install the driver you will need to do the following

Extract the downloaded zip file into a folder on the PC

For Vista;
> Start Globe
> Control Panel
> System and maintenance
> Scroll down to Device manager
> network adaptors, click on the + >
> Right click on the AR5007(EG) Adapter
> click on Update Driver Software...
> click on Browse my computer for driver software
> click on the Button Browse...
> Locate the folder you extracted the downloaded zip file to
> Next
Click OK and Windows will install the driver for you.

For XP;

the version that I have and that I installed is Windows 7 Ultimate. Click to expand...

did you purchase this W7 and is it genuine - we often see networking issues with NON-Genuine copies of windows

Why did you not just re-install
The version of Windows 7 that shipped with the PC was Windows 7 Home PremiumClick to expand...

W7 Home Prenium

On the PC you will have a CoA label and the Key to use W7 Home Premium
download the ISO from here and create a bootable DVD
and install using the CoA key on the PC
then you have a genuine copy of windows on the PC

once you have done that , see if you still have issues with the wireless drivers

in order to identify which wireless adapter you have - do this
How to identify hardware in Device Manager

right click on the device with a yellow!

from the menu choose
Click on the Details Tab
Under the Property - drop down
Select hardware ids
Right click and select all
Then right click again and select copy
Copy and paste that information here

You should see a code similar to this

please reply with the full code for your device(s)

The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example:

Vendor ID = 8086
Device ID = 008A

Post back those two numbers make sure we know which is vendor ID and which is device ID

These codes can be looked up at this site

As an example the link for that database tells us that;
Vendor ID code 8086 is for this vendor - Intel Corporation
Device ID code 008A is for this device - Intel Centrino Wireless-N1030
Unknown Device Identifier enables you to identify the yellow question mark labeled Unknown Devices in Device Manager.

This unit got some viruses,  reloaded win7 and everything works fine except for the wireless connection. In the DM esepcially under Network Adapters, I am not seeing any problems with any devices, it shows 802.11n wireless Lan Card. I can see my network and put in my password to connect to my network but it is showing "limited connectivity"? I have 3 other computers her eon my netowrk, all wireless and no connection issues with any of them, with a wired ethernet connection straight to my router, no issues with this desktop, does this mean maybe the viruses has damaged the unit's built in wireless card?
