The Picture It! Library and Digital Image Library do not display temporary files. By ignoring temporary files, the Library can remain clean and uncluttered. An issue has been identified where some software marks photos as temporary files when they are acquired from the camera. This patch enables the Library to view these temporary files.
The software currently known to mark new files as temporary is Canon Utilities ZoomBrowser version 220.127.116.11.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I have a group of computers in a small office without a server that are connected and share via homegroup. When I added a new laptop with win 8.1 to the homegroup, I couldn't ever access the shared printer which is attached to the win 7 desktop. I deleted and recreated the homegroup multiple times from different computers and nothing seemed to change the situation. I deleted the homegroup completely and just tried to share the printer separately connecting via computer share name and still not good. Now if the win 8.1 computer can recognize the printer, none of the win 7 computers can print to it and vice versa. I need them all to be able to share the printer at the same time and share 2 folders between all of them. How can I accomplish this besides down grading the 8.1 to win 7 and installing win 7 on it. Thanks for the assistance
If the printer has Ethernet support, connect it to the router and then use Add Printer as a Network printer on every PC (ie not directly connected to any PC) and at least that will solve one issue. Remember to get the correct print driver for each system; Win/7 vs Win/8.
I'll surf for the sharing issue and post back ...
Hi every one
I need your help gays
I saved some files in my USB but when I explore my USB the files are not appear
it shows that usb is empty
I do not know what to do
Have you tried the same USB on a different pc? If not, do so.
Hi fellow techspotters,
odd thing has happened to my friend, whos pc I have handbuilt. Every time he starts downloading lets say 1gb or bigger file his RAM starts to fill up. No processes are visible to be the cause. Cpu usage stays on normal level, but the ram just keeps on filling. Until it is throttled by capping on 8gb and he is forced to pause the download and reboot the machine, and the RAM is cleaned.
I posted this under networking, because I doubt that it is a hardware related problem.
The numbers go some like this. 8gb of RAM = 20gb of download -> cap -> restart -> ram clear -> restore download. And the RAM gets used oddly like its ment to behave like this. Does it store something on the way?
It isnt actually a problem, my friend can cope with it. But I as a builder of the PC would really like to solve this. I have never encountered such memory behavior with downloads before.
Screencaps of the situation available when I get home from work.
Does the machine have an anti-virus installed? And if so, does memory usage have the same effect with or without active scanning?
When monitoring Task Manager, which process is using the memory allotment that appears to be accumulating? Killing the process should clear memory usage by that process.
Forgive me as I beat around the bush, not really knowing what to say.
My ext.HDD don't show content of one of folders. It's not hidden! It start playing movies inserted in it when I try to play this folder with VLC player, but that is all what I'm able to do with it. I tried to check disk for errors bot none was found, have anyone idea what could be wrong? Thanks in advance Michal
And we should play 20 questions as to WHICH directory??
The Samsung 840 EVO has been one of the most troubled solid state drives since its mid 2013 launch. Last year, users discovered that the drive suffers from performance degredation in the long run, with read speeds dropping off dramatically...
I have bought several 840 drives myself, and our newest machines at work have 120GB 840 Evos. After installing Magician 4.6, I was presented with the option to upgrade to the EXT0DB6Q firmware. I then disabled rapid mode, and ran the benchmark testing(with rapid mode enabled, you're basically measuring your RAM). I saw about a 200 MB/s increase compared to my lowest score for Sequential Write, and more modest gains elsewhere. Note that with Magician 4.6, Standard performance optimization is not supported on Windows 8 or higher. However, a new "advanced" option is available, that performs a complete rewrite, refreshing data and alleviating access delays. It took about 10 minutes to complete on my system with about 60 GB used. I'll be doing more testing, and anxiously awaiting a Mac compatible ISO, as Magician is not available for OS X.
My newest task is centered around an HP Pavilion 15-p033ca laptop with a broken screen. Replacing the screen is actually super simple but my issue lies elsewhere.
Normally I would hook the laptop up to a monitor via VGA cable. This newer laptop only has an HDMI hook-up, so I hooked it up to my TV with that cable. The HP logo upon start up is semi-visible as the picture is distorted. So, before I spend money and order the screen my question is...
Does an HDMI relay the Broken screens picture to the TV and that's why is messed up? or should the TV picture still be clear? Like when a broken screen laptop is hooked to an external monitor with a VGA and the external monitor works fine.
I'm worried there may be an internal GPU or Mobo issue aside from the screen being broke.... Finally is there a better way I can test this instead?
Thanks for any info or Ideas in advance!
Look no further than a solid state drive for breakneck speed. If a large-capacity drive for storage is what you're after, however, traditional spinning hard drives are still the best bet in terms of price per GB. And if you...
On a more interesting note, Seagate is already shipping 8TB HDD-s to its select customers, with 10TB ones to follow.
Besides, nothing beats the current 6TB Enterprise offer from Seagate anyway, in terms of price+performance+capacity. Let Western Digital lag behind as it does
Power light blinks blue but no picture. I swapped it out with CRT monitor with no issues on the CRT monitor. How hard is it if I fix it myself? Whats the name of the part I need to fix this and where to buy the part?
From the info you provided, it's hard to exactly tell what is wrong with your monitor. Most likely you have some capacitors or some transistors that have "burnt up" (failed). You have the blinking light which means that you are still getting some power to it, but not the full amount needed. Looking up the information on the monitor, it is from either 2007 or 2008. My best suggestion is to get a new one. This is not something that is quick and simple to fix. Most of the time when something like this happens, you have to unsolder parts and then solder new parts back on to the board. Also, finding available parts for the monitor might create another challenge. If you are comfortable with this type of repair work, then take the cover off and start looking for "burnt" parts.
This build will be for my 77 year old mother who lives in another state and I am trying to build this as stable and problem free preventative mode as best as I can with the understanding that any hardware can fail at any time.
Anyway, NewEgg is having both their Blue and Black WD 1TB hard drives on sale that goes off of sale after tomorrow. I know Black is often the choice due to build quality and 5 year warranty. However, the Blue would really help budget wise because every dollar counts and it sees many people have had good success with the Blue.
She does MS Office, email, surfing plus she has an online business that keeps her very busy along with uploading a lot of photos.
Blue. Because of her work tasks.
Alright here we go it s my first time here I don t got any help searching so gonna ask here The first problem is that my notebook has recently a Bad Image error when I try to install programs like if I download in baixaki Advanced SystemCare he tells me that got a bad image Also I can t install so much things and the cleaners anti-virus thanks to that some programs as Fire Fox too here let me show you It doesn t Constantly errors and Bad blue Image screens change the error I think with others it always say this jscript dll and yeah I will not make another thread so I think I am able to show all the problems here I didn Constantly Bad Image errors and blue screens t read rules Second one much KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR blue screen but not frequently sometimes he freezes and does that It already maked it constantly when it was starting and I fixed it I think I think those problems are related to my HD or motherboard isn t it Third one everytime I open chrome he say that he isn t my principal browser and when I click to make it he doesn t do Constantly Bad Image errors and blue screens Also his image is bugged P S I don t remember when exactly this error of Bad Image started I was in the past without it and it suddently appeared I know that can appear by I installing something I was downloading so much in the forums GTA SA Mods P S I play so much games on that frequently War Dota Tibia GTA and others RPG but now only War Dota So waiting if you can help me nbsp
Sorry I forgot, the KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR was already constantly appearing when I start windows. Not expecified that.
Good day to all,
This may or may not be possible, but let me try and explain. I was wondering if it were possible for a mirrored copy of a file to exist. Meaning every time I modified the file or file (s), its corresponding mirrored copy would change too.
I've been saving a lot of things to my Google Drive recently. I was wondering if it were possible for these files to have a mirrored copy saved to another location on my Hard Drive as well.
New files are being added to the Google Drive on a daily basis, so I doubt there would be a way to set this mirror to new files automatically. And this of course, is assuming that this is possible at all. Let me know if you would like me to elaborate or if this can or can't be done at your convenience.
If you require
update foo.txt => mirror:foo.txt
for each and every alteration of foo.txt in real time, then basically you're asking for a RAID-1x implementation.
If you can tolerate a nightly sync of *modified files*, then you might look at
You map a local directory onto a remote directory and run the sync one-way to the remote.
Now on a schedule (or manual invocation) only the mods in the local migrate onto the remote.
Frankly, this is my backup strategy for my laptop.
I want to buy a new hard disk.
While I was searching I found two identical hard drives, but one was WESTERN DIGITAL and the other one was SEAGATE.
What do you think which one is better (or more reliable)?
Even though I personally use Seagate, I would vote for either one. I've had equally good and bad luck with all drive manufacturers.
With only those two options, anyone casting a vote would be seen as biased (IMO).
I am also getting a bad image error it pops up on six or 7 start ups ive run mbam disk clean up disk defrag scan disk but its still there. ive looked over many posts and tried to follow others instructions but im still missing something
Jarrow, what are your computers specs?
Just got my ssd yesterday and installed Windows 7 on it. I wasn't sure what files I should have on the ssd and which one I should have on hdd for storage. I got a gaming rig if that helps so I want games from steam example to go ssd. I also don't know how to transfer folders from the ssd to hdd I don't wanna mess up installations.
At 4G+ a game you wouldn't be able to install many games before filling up a small SSD. I hope you purchased a large SSD.
You can't just move folders to move applications. If you want them on HDD, you will need to install them to HDD. You do this by selecting the HDD during installation as a destination. If you simply move the folder, you will break registry entries and links all through the system.
I'm the opposite as I've installed all my applications to SSD, except for Virtual Machines and Email. All my games are installed to HDD.
I deleted a folder with about 30 gigs of stuff in it from my 500 gig external hard drive about a week ago. I haven't done anything else with the drive since then. The folder was too large for the recycle bin so windows just automatically deleted it. I've tried recovering the files with Recuva and Puran File Recovery, but neither of them have been able to locate the files. Does this mean I will not be able to get them back, or is there something else I can try?
To recover data you can install Pandora Recovery in windows or use PhotoRec in Linux.
I do not have an internet connection on the other PC so sharing files wouldn't work....So I need to know how to transfer files using LAN cable.....there are a lot of videos on youtube on how to transfer files form windows 7 to windows 7 but I have windows xp (on both PC) Or maybe transfer it in another way that excludes having internet connection on both PC-s..
You could do it with a 'crossover' cable. It is like an ethernet cable, but the wires on either end aren't identical.
But.. if you don't have one of those, buying one would be just as expensive as buying a USB flash drive of 4-32 gigs in size depending on where you would buy the crossover cable.
So, IMO, using a flash drive of suitable size (larger than the largest single file you will transfer) and using multiple 'trips' as necessary is the easiest way.
I woke up on May 10th 2013 & when it started up my laptop I saw this.
I was a bit scared, but I decided to run the following programs:
Scan disk (SCR-scanow)
I do not know what happened, but I have posted on several other forums, but no answer.
Did you fix this?
I have a corrupted micro SD card. With huge trying I could to recover it's data using **recuva** tool, but now my files are corrupted also. They are video file with some famous extensions such as 3gp, mp4, flv, wmv, avi. My video file players are *VLC* and *Media player classic*. The *media player classic* says, "can not render the file" and *VLC* doesn't show anything.
Is there a way to repair these video files?
Don't think so. With the corrupted micro SD, there's no way to edit them to make them valid again - - sure hope you have another copy elsewhere (aka backups?)
There is a post here about the good old ADAPTEC 1205SA card. But the links in the article do not work. No difference between 1205 and 1210? I know 1210SA is an old card. But on the website of silicon image, chipset 3112 (3112A) has support for windows 7 64bit. I've tried the update utility provided by silicon image site. Be DOS mode, so is Windows. Does not recognize the card as being from Silicon Image. Looking at the card, I saw that the chipset BIOS supports. AM29LV010B-90EC. Does anyone know if there is a possibility of that? What right utility to use? Or if there is a 64-bit driver that works on that card? Thank you.
Does anyone know?
I have a Western Digital drive and it keeps freezing the transfer process around 15 seconds remaining. I am trying to transfer my movie files to it. The files are around 750 megs to 2.5 gigs each. I am trying to do them one at a time. I have got it to transfer about 3 movies to the device. When the transfer locks I have to turn off the computer and turn it back on to get it to stop. Its I think a 110 gig external.
Some details you have left out.
Age of PC
Desktop or Laptop
How much RAM?
Single, Dual or Quad or high CPU.
Size of HDD
What source are you using to transfer file to the HDD?
Are you using a network LAN?
Speed of the LAN 10, 100, 10000?
When you do this type of work make sure the PC doesn't go to sleep and keep an eye on it.
Make sure the HDD doesn't have any bad blocks do a check disk (CHKDSK C: /F
Make sure the HDD is de-fragmented
Make sure the HDD has done quick or full optimized (use ULTRA DEFRAG FREE)
Make sure the system is cleaned using JetClean Free
The condition of the HDD is very important also the source your transferring from too it.
I have a western digital 1 tb hard disk. which was working fine few hours ago.
but now when I am connecting it it is not showing in my computer.
I am using a windows 7 X64 machine.
I have tried every thing.
when I uninstall the driver from device manager and connect it again, windows tries to
install the driver but fails every time.
I have lot of important data on the drive
I'm just curious as to why I see the black & white images on the top left corner my Monitor when I shut my W7 pc down? They don't appear together, but sequentially. Its no biggie, just curious, thank you.
No idea. Could be your monitor text saying "no signal, going to sleep". Try and take a photo next time.
Good afternoon I am sure this has been mentioned on here many times but every time I search for my problem I always get the same results Third party this format this backup your data that Here is what is going on I have a TB external hard drive that is more than full backing up my data via third party software is not an option because to hard external Digital Western drive 2TB Raw NTFS I don t have room to store the data anywhere The copious amount of data on the drive is also why I can not just simply format the drive to change the file system I have also tried a couple of methods involving check disk commands and using disk management neither of these methods have worked out in my favor This problem has really shaken my confidence with computers and troubleshooting up until this point I thought I was pretty well educated on fixing stuff like this but I really can not figure this one out 2TB Western Digital external hard drive Raw to NTFS So here s the summary large hard drive no formatting no backing up the data RAW to NTFS Thank you nbsp
I'm still confused. What is it you want to do?
Try Recuva, if you think your files have been deleted!
SO my old hard drive wouldn't boot anymore, I think the error had something to do with MUI not being full or something? So I bought a new computer and pulled the drive from my old computer and put it into an enclosure. It is registering on my new computer as I:, but I get an error I:/ is not accessible The request could not be performed because of an I/O Device Error.
I am guessing I need to put a master boot record on the external drive to get it to be recognized? I have a ton of pics on that drive, most are backed up, but I got a few months behind and CHristmas and a few other important months of pics are on there and I don't want to lose them (or pay $3000 to recover them either). Any ideas?
Take the drive out and get a USB HDD Hub for it and buy a new HDD install the new OS on that system to replace it. This way you can still use the HDD as external device with USB connection to get your files off.

I need some help. I have aseagate 1TB ext. hard drive. I cansee it as G drive bit cannot access the files. Strangely I did get the same issue some time back and I ran th seagate tools and the bad sector was resolved. This time I was trasfereing the video files and after completing the task the drive is visible in my computer but I cannot access the files. Whole lot of data is stuck and pretty important too. Kindly suggest a solution.
Windows 8 in use
Thanks in advance
So I use a hard drive tray which usually works fine drive/OS with files 'interact' BIOS hard but every couple of months I ll get no boot no Bios just a black screen and various led s You can see a previous post at http www techspot com community topics stumper-no-bios-or-video but Saturday I had my mouse BIOS 'interact' with hard drive/OS files freeze and couldn t get any control Re-boot attempt gave a DMI pool data error Surfing yields a dozen possible reasons for that error Ended up re-setting the Bios solved I use b XP and rarely Linux Mint all on different drives The guy who helped me says Bios interacts with data in the MBR on the different drives I BIOS 'interact' with hard drive/OS files have never read anything stating Bios can get mixed up due to which hard drive or OS as Bios passes control off to MBR and then OS regardless of which sata cable being used I agree the drive tray must be confusing the Bios but don t understand how Recently I haven t even had Mint installed so I don t think the grub is a culprit Anyone know how using a tray and different drives could change settings in Bios Goes against what I learned nbsp
The Boot sequence of a PC has this (legacy) sequence of events
Power On Self Test (POST) occurs
The video card is found
Secondary rom' are found and executed (eg IDE/ATA,...)
Bios vga display
System inventory of the devices occurs
PnP devices are found
Using the Boot sequence map in the BIOS, a device that is ready and bootable is found
the MBR is read if found
and the BOOT.ini processed to locate the kernel
So the list of ready devices are sampled to find a MBR.
For UEFI support, the BIOS looks for the /boot partition.
I am just trying to come to grips with possibilities using my new Asus Xonar DG Soundcard.
It's a well reviewed but low cost card @ $28 & I selected it to replace my failed on-board Card.
So I now have my desktop amplified speakers set up, but they are budget variety & somewhat limited, although I do not expect or need high volume.
I happen to have several small (ex car) amps, & several pairs of reasonably sized reasonable quality speakers, so I thought "what about a 4 speaker set up"?
Is this possible & how can it be wired up?
If done this way should I hook up a double gang log pot to control volume rather than use the on screen slide control which is not that easy when you are doing other things.
There should be a 'speaker fill' checkbox or similar in your audio manager.
Alternatively, you can use a splitter to split the L/R audio between the front jack and rear jack, giving you the same sound coming from the four speakers.
Or, you may find that it's annoying....
Hi, I have run chkdsk couple times and keep getting about 4 bad sectors. With bad sectors I cannot backup my image on any backup program even windows. It will fail about half way through it. Does anyone know of a program that will bypass the bad sectors and back it up. Thanks. I am open for any solutions here.

You should be fine as long as the Internet NIC is plugged in first. Your routing table will confirm you have done it correctly.

Hi thanks or looking a my post,
As it is I have 1 hard drive backing up all staff file that are located on a share PC, I have now been asked to setup a system where I have two hard drive backing up the same information and that they are switched weekly.
When one hard drive is in the building backing up the other hard drive is off site in a safe place, but I am unsure how to set this up using windows 7 backup.
I do not need to backup the system image as they has all ready been done just the staff files.
Thanks for any help
Good planning for disaster planning reasons (btw: that's called media rotation).
To automate backups alternating between two target drives -- don't think that's possible and you will need a manual procedure to identify the 'other drive'.
Hopefully the "files that are located on a share PC" are limited to a Shared Folder making the source location easy. Using the backup technique of an Incremental Backup will reduce the size and time of the data being copied.
CAUTION: do not encrypt the backup volume(s), nor even compress them.
If you need them after a disaster, they will need to be usable on ANY available PC and encryption/compression can be subject to software incompatibilities - - right when you don't need that kind of help!
Hi all just wondering after a full format can files be recovered. any help much appreciated
Almost NEVER :sigh:
"no matter how many times I measure that piece of lumber,
every time I cut it it is STILL too short".
I have a asus a8n delexe sli which gaves the above error when I do alt f2 on post to enter the flash utility. I was driven to reinstall bios or upgrade it because I am getting freezing; reboot issues; missing drivers; unrecognised hardware issues etc. I have swapped out drives, video cards, reinstalled OS and even swapped PSU to no avail. So has my motherboard just had it?
I folllowed asus instructions and copied the bios to a floppy disk and tried to flash from that. Although I copied all three files in the downloaded zip so I presume it would select the exe file automatically. I will download again. Should it work if I copied to a blank CD? I presume the bios would automatically pull the exe from any device besides the hard drive? I get this error with or without the floppy inserted?
Did you finally get this solved?
Hello guys , I have a seagate external hard drive I dont know if its a TB or WD ? but it has a max capacity of 500gb. so here is the problem , the external drive shows that it occupies 295gb out of 500gb capacity but when I opened it , the files inside the drive does NOT shows up,I dont know if they are missing or something, and I dont know what is the real problem ..so ive tried to unhide it but nothing happened can you suggest some solutions to this problem ?, I really need the files inside the external drive , and I dont want to format it . thank you guys . ask me if there's a part you doesnt understand

I have a problem with SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio on my HP - nc6220 laptop, WinXP professional sp2.
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio just stopped working, I tried reinstalling it but it always says that there was a problem during installation and it might not work properly.
In Control Panel>Sounds and Audio devices it's all grayed out so I cannot do anything there.
In device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark, I tried disable-enable but it does not help.
I also tried updating the driver, re-enabling windows audio in services, even reinstalled Windows and installing sp3.
Also I tried an USB sound card and it is working well.
Is there anything else I could do, or maybe SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio is just broken and cannot be fixed?

I inserted my USB in a friend's laptop and I noticed that they all turned into .exe files. I figured it was only because my friend's laptop was very slow and I think it is infected. But when I inserted the USB back to my laptop, the folders remained as .exe. My laptop is probably clean (undergoing a Redirect malware cleaning as of the moment) but I haven't encountered any problems like this before. I can't format my USB because I need the files. Please help.
I have scanned my USB with MSE and results show it had Trojan:Win32/Startpage.gen!A virus and MSE quarantined them.
I still can't access my folders even if I type it on the address bar. No malicious items show up on MBAM. Please help me.
I have a Seagate ST500DM002 using windows 7.
it shows around 150GB free space, when I delete files from it (not to recycle bin), it still shows the same amount of free space, even after restart, any advice?
This is a 500GB drive, right? How is it configured, as a boot or spare drive?
Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct place, Mods please move if not, thanks.
So, I have a bit of a problem. I accidentally deleted the wrong folder from our work server yesterday (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard), but we have a nightly backup to a tape drive so I went onto the backup software (Symantec Backup Exec 2012) to restore the data. However, using the restore wizard it has been "Querying for data" for approximately 12 hours... is this normal?? Is it possible to restore files/folders from a tape backup, or would we have to restore the whole system? Do I just need to wait a long time for the system to find the data?
We have a spare 2Tb NAS drive so I could potentially restore all of the data to this (approximately 600gb), would this be a more viable approach?
Thanks in advance

Hi I have a basic IBM Thinkpad model T Out of the headphone jacks I run a splitter and have sound through sets of IBM Infinity speakers speakers in all I recently received a Boston Acoustics BA- speaker setup but I can t get / speakers analog Digital it to work through my PC From reading on-line I believe these BA speakers are digital whereas Digital / analog speakers the Infinity speakers likely are analog or possibly the other way around I can t upgrade or modify the PC itself owned by my employer so new soundcards etc is not an option My question how can Digital / analog speakers I get the BA speaker setup to work with the existing speakers I have in place are there converters etc that I can get from an electronics store that can make them all compatable and continue to drive sound using the headphone jack My understanding is the BA speakers have great sound so I quot m hoping Digital / analog speakers I can somehow add them to the setup thanks nbsp
Hmm; The short answer is you would need a digital sound card and the BA speakers connect to its output.
Physics 101: A device that transforms one media into another is called a transducer.
From the beginning, a speaker has been a stationary magnet and a suspended wire coil connected to a 'cone'.
When the sound amplifier produces an A/C output to the coil, the fluctuating current causes motion and the cone vibrates
to simulate the A/C pattern that was applied - - not perfectly, but good enough to the human ear.
This is the Analog transducer: current is transformed into sound.
The inverse of this design is the phonograph pickup where motion is transformed into a signal.
Another example is our display monitors; originally these were all VGA (analog) and today a great many are digital.
ALL digital systems transduce 0's & 1's back into an analog signal to make the speakers work - - but the raw input has to be 0's & 1's.
Here's a comment from EHOW.COM
Boston Acoustics Ba735 Speakers are high-performance digital loudspeakers designed for connecting to a personal computer or laptop. The computer must have a digital soundcard to be compatible with the speakers, although this is a standard feature on all new computers. Special software drivers are required to run the speakers on older computers. Boston Acoustics Ba735 speakers can also be hooked up to a DVD player with any digital connection, such as a USB port.
I have a Western Digital Elements Tb external drive which contains around Gb of data The drive itself is a WD Caviar Green Mb cache The drive functioned normally for an amount hard Western working drive not Digital of time but a while ago it started failing to spin up I m not getting the Western Digital hard drive not working distinct click of a dead drive just repeated quiet attempts to get itself going I have removed the drive from its enclosure to see if the casing was the problem After connecting it to an internal SATA port and power cable my PC failed to boot so it seems it is the drive itself which is the problem The drive shows up in Device Manager as working properly and any diagnostic tools show the correct capacity and volume of data but the folders remain inaccessible and my PC seems to struggle to perform some tasks while the drive is attempting to start When the drive does finally show up it shows as a local drive in My Computer and remains inaccessible I have tried Editing the registry as advised on the Microsoft support site Changing the drive letter Multiple USB and power cables Using as an internal drive nbsp
Well, if you can't access any files even when the drive is set as an external, the drive is toast... unless you want to pay someone to retrieve any data
Win XP defragger is having a hard time defragging external USB 2TB drive because of the back up .iso image files on it. What do you think about the cause of this problem and possible solutions? Diskeeper?
I just realized the actual file type causing this issue is .mrimg , a back up image file created by Macrium Reflect. Some of the big .iso files I have seem to stress the defragger, but at least they're not completely crashing XP and the drive. I end up having to unplug the drive to get XP responding again, even to reboot. I'm pretty convinced it's the .mrinmg file. Not sure if I should create a separate partition just for them, or get a better defragger.
I've downloaded photos from my camera's memory card onto my computer, the whole photo comes up at first in the thumbnail and then part of the photo gets blanked out with a grey block or the photo becomes distorted. I've tried it on another computer and it does the same. Can anyone help me recover them?
Hi, If you are seeing a part of your photo, say just the top 10% but the rest is grey, then it means that the grey part has been saved over by another jpeg file, so that means it must have been deleted at some time earlier.
The thumbnail version you see is a different version, but is only a few hundred bytes of data . To cut a long story down, the jpegs are are gone.
A good program to recover jpegs from memory cards etc, is Piriform's 'Recuva' , but it can't get back data that's been saved over, only jpeg files that have been marked 'delete' BUT have not yet been written over by another jpeg file.
OK I will start from that I have Doubled image in fps games I ve tried different monitor CPU MOBO nothing helped I m trying to solve this but can t Doubled (ghosting)... image why? find the right answer Many suggested reinstall new drivers which is stupid in my opinion change monitor because it s broken or said that this is common thing having ghosting in LCDs or change HDMI cable I almost believed in that my monitor is really broken but recently I found this video which confirms that my monitor is not broken and this has something to do with Doubled image (ghosting)... why? the PC hardware or even Graphics card because I can see this ghosting recorded by another person here is the pictures and video this video shows ghosting playing at FPS watch from m s and pause the video every second same game on different hardware no ghosting detected watch from m s it s really annoying because of this Usually I m playing with a controller on my PC with analog stick I move camera slower than with K amp M and the ghosting effect is much more noticeable Doubled image (ghosting)... why? than moving with mouse left-right in a second anybody has any explanations on this matter I repeat my self again my monitor is OK I did some digging it has ms response time Playing games at - fps it s a pain to watch the image is not clear all objects are doubled nbsp
Can you confirm that you're running on progressive resolution not interlaced mode? seems like common problem with interlaced display. check your nvidia control panel or ati catalyst for the display resolution, and if necessary, try to go for lower progressive resolution to check whether the ghosting persists. hope this helps.
Hi guys I on when KAV60: turned white turned when no image off, Acer LCD is have an acer aspire one KAV mini laptop It was dropped and the LCD panel was broken I used it with an external VGA monitor while the ebay LCD purchased arrived home I didnt use the laptop for month Today the LCD panel arrived I changed it Acer KAV60: LCD is white when turned off, no image when turned on right away But as soon I connected the flex cable LCD panel when On with a white light like if the LED Backlight was connected directly Laptop was turned off when this happens If I turn the laptop On then the LCD panel goes black Led light turns off HD powers on vent powers on power led is on if Acer KAV60: LCD is white when turned off, no image when turned on I plug the AC adapter then charge led is on but no Bios logo at all Like if the BIOS operations where dead at all LCD was used but in good shape as quoted by the seller on ebay Now if the screen was in quot short circuit quot when purchased could this mess up the whole laptop Could a defective LCD panel cause the motherboard to die Or could the motherboard die just becaus it cans and that to be the reason why the LCD panel goes on white light What do you think can be wrong now with my laptop Thanks in advance nbsp
It could be a defective inverter or LCD panel. I would try a new inverter first
I own a Sony VAIO F series laptop. Recently, around 2 weeks ago, I suddenly cannot use my web cam (Motion Eye), the green light next to it, is on, indicating it's working, but no picture displays, onscreen, on Live messenger, or on Facebook video call.
This have happened to me once before, where Sony support told me to do system recovery; but did not solve the issue. Then they took it away, and returned it back to me within a week telling me it was some sort of software conflict, and the hardware was functioning perfectly.
I was hoping if anyone can give me a few pointers on how to get my Motion Eye working again.
Hope I'm posting in the correct section.
There is no reason to not think it is still a software issue... Sony probably wanted you to do a factory restore and not a system restore. There is a difference between them
So I recently built myself a computer. I have a 500GB Hard drive, and during the installation of windows I forgot to make a partition.
I already tried making a partition the re-installing windows on that, but for some reason it kept failing.
so I'm wondering if there's a way to move all my core Windows NVIDIA Program Files etc. into just one folder. then possibly make it hidden. would that work? is there any way to do this?
If you head into the Administrative Tools in Control Panel you can create a partition by shrinking your existing C: partition by the amount of space you want to use for a second one.
There is absolutely no need to re-install Windows.
I am trying to recover my files-all.
Recently all the folders and files disappeared, normally when this happened i would view all the hidden files in the folder options and also unchecked the hide protected operating....
and i would see the hidden files.. now only thing i see is a folder marked playlist (guessing since it was in ma phone that's apart of the reason),
however if i delete it it comes back my guess is its a virus, i know my folders are still on it cause the space is allocated in the properties box so its there... i also tried the command line (attrib -s -.......and so on) but nothing worked, i only see the same playlist folder..
i don't want to buy one of those recovery software cause its costy and i might not use it frequently..

my flash drive name shows up when I click on My Computer, but when I click the name of the Flash Drive, the files are not listed. How do I correct this?
The flash drive in question may or may not have files on it that windows can see. It could be in a strange format, or it could just have hidden files on it. open my computer, go to tools/folder options/view and tick "show hidden files and folders" see if that allows you to see the files that are on the flash drive. If not, perhaps the flash drive is bad, or maybe is just needs reformatted. keep in mind reformatting will wipe any data that is on the flash drive. to do so, open my computer, right click on the flash drive, and choose format. Hope this helps, take care!
I accidentally killdisk'd my EHD yesterday, I managed to stop it before it deleted anything. But the pc doesn't read my EHD anymore, I tried it on other pc's and it still wont read it. I can't access it even from cmd. Please tell me there is still a chance to recover my files
update: my friend got it to run on the device management, and it showed up as Unallocated, then he tried to create an extended partition, and told me that all the files was already removed. is there really no chance at all?
My I drive is reading: not accessible incorrect function. Please help

I need to get access to some files I saved in an old Maxtor One Touch Plus external HDD some years back. I tried plugging the drive into my desktop. The power indicator on the drive lit up but I could not see it in the list of drives under the "My Computer" menu.
I checked under "Device Manager" and saw it was listed there. A friend advised me to assign a letter to the drive. I attempted to do this but I got a return from Windows saying that the drive is write protected so I could not complete the process.
Is there any other way I can recover my files from the drive?
There is always the idea of taking the drive out of the external and directly connecting the drive to your motherboard.
I wish I understood how the drive could be locked. Do you not have any options to unlock the drive?
Hey guys, I have a Western Digital External Harddrive that's 1TB. Its probably been a year and a half old now but recently whenever I would plug it in it would take really long to load. Now currently, whenever its plugged in, instead of showing up as My Passport (G like it always did, its reading as Local Disk (G and Windows Explorer freezes everytime I even attempt to click it. Help please, I have over 300 gigs of music on it that I need for parties as I am a DJ.
Have you tried accessing this drive on another computer?
My gb hdd is about years old which I realize is about the average lifespan of a WD harddrive Up until now it had only given me similar "Gibberish" on HDD external Western 500GB Digital files problems very sparingly and would be fixed with a quick restart Now after multiple restarts it looks like the problem is potentially permanent Here are some examples of what happens i imgur com h Dc jpg I have only used about GB on the HDD i imgur com SYBrN jpg "Gibberish" files on external Western Digital 500GB HDD The content of the HDD and what happens when I try to open a folder On other PCs well I tried it on an iMac the harddrive is "Gibberish" files on external Western Digital 500GB HDD read but no files show up I scanned it with what I believe was called "Gibberish" files on external Western Digital 500GB HDD Partition Recovery however no problems were found I m hoping someone on here can help me salvage it if not I ll just have to no longer trust WD Other information that might be useful Windows Vista -bit Problem seemed to have started after I began sharing it over network not sure if this was a coincidence nbsp
Have you tested it with a hard drive diagnostic utility like SeaTools?
I'd consider checking for a firmware update on the drive and applying that. I think I've seen something similar like that happen with a dead hard drive but I can't exactly remember. So it might be worth waiting for someone else to respond before going ahead with the firmware update. I don't entirely know how those work and I wonder if updating the firmware may make recovery impossible (if it ever was possible to begin with).
Hiren's Boot CD has some pretty good recovery tools and I had some good luck recovering files off a drive when I booted into Mini XP mode with the CD. I had to try several utilities before I had any luck, and when I did find one that was able to recover it took a really long time, much longer than it would just copying files.
I seen quite a few fancy LCD/LED "speedo" type temp displays on users custom builds bit i cant seem to source where to buy from as i dont know what they are called ? (Am in the UK by the way)
I have an Antec 300 with 2 availible front panels and would love one of these fancy displays.
please could you help me find some.
Thanks so much in advance.
They are fan controllers/controller panels. I don't recommend an LCD one though as they can be troublesome. I have this in my Antec 300 and really like it and it matches.
Here are some LCD ones.

hello i am prasanna i am using windows 7 on my acer 5560g laptop.from last week i cannot view video in my laptop.but the sound is ok.even in window media player, vlc player i cannot see video
Please be a little bit more specific, is the video playing but only hearing sound or does it fail to play at all. And assuming that it was fine all along did you have any updates or crashes or something recently?
I have an ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1001PXD preloaded with Windows 7 Starter. I'm thinking it had an Aleureon(sp?) in the MBR, but I did some things to it a couple months ago, and Windows is booting up. It says it is connecting to the network in my house as "public", but won't get on the internet. It won't let me change the classification to "home". When I did whatever I did (can't remember what), It created a new partition (E) for recovery files. I want the laptop back in it's factory state with the recovery files in D like they're supposed to be. There is no CD or DVD drive as it is only a small laptop, but I may be able to transfer files/programs from my main desktop to it if it is indeed connected to the network. Thanks in advance, Bec
You can buy or borrow an external USB CD/DVD drive, to do the job for you
I recently updated my psu from 500 to 650 due to quietness reasons. Although I properly know how to change it something has happen that I can't explain.
The computer boots, with both CPU and gpu fans starting. Although sometimes it takes a 2-6 second "rest"(with everything turning off again) to then start, just a couple of seconds in the start, that has never happen before.
As it then starts there is no image on my screen, since I have a hd6970 that has a light that tells me if something is wrong, it's not the gpu. The USB ports doesn't seen to be responsiven since the keyboard dosnt light up, although my headset is showing that is being charged, so clearly power is going trough( I have tried all the USB ports and they all charge)
So now Im stuck I have no idea what to do
Please forum, help
what board do you have? Unplug all devices from USB ports and try a cold boot.
On my usb, there is no problem with the slots themselves but the usbs keep talking about opening as an administrator, i tried that and still nothing.
Are you using Win 7?
I am trying to pull old files from my hard drive that was in my old computer running Windows XP. I have it plugged in via extenal housing/Reader if you will and when I try to copy or drag the files a windows shows up saying access is denied. Is this because of user logins or something with XP or something crazy like this and is there a way to copy these files over to my other computer that is running XP as well.
You need to take ownership. Here is a thread with instructions: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic8914.html
After transferring all of my saved files (pictures, videos, mp3s) from my 500gb Seagate external hard drive to my new Western Digital 2tb hard drive, over half of everything has been corrupted. I don't know why, I am devastated right now.
When I first started transferring all of my files to my new external hard drive, I realized I had to format it in order to transfer large files. So I had to go back and copy everything right back to my old hard drive. After I finished formatting the new one, I copied everything back to it. Now not only are most of my files from the new one is screwed up, but most everything on my old external hard drive is corrupt too. Is there a way to fix the files that has been damaged and why did this happen in the first place?
screwed up how? can you be specific? If the files were corrupted on the old hard drive and you attempted to copy them the OS would give you errors while copying them. If you did not get an error message while copying them than the OS (I assume windows) did not see them as corrupted.
Having dredged the internet, I came across this forum amongst the many with questions relating to cd drives working but dvd not etc, but my issue is slightly different, i think.
CDs seem to play ok, and so do DVDs, but I seem to have a problem with my laptop reading a disc with DS games on it that it used to read no problem. The discs can be used in my other half's laptop, so it is clearly a problem with my laptop.
I'd appreciate if anyone could advise where I can start to solve this problem
You need to have the CD/DVD drive replaced. Internal lasers fail in strange ways. The drives are not too expensive and they are easy to replace
While on the matter the computers after been formatted and then added to the network,
its on the network and can print and all but some of them while trying to access the server i cant i normally go to My network places > entire network > Ms windows network >
then i would see the server and the name of the other computer on network....
i need this to install some programs(shared) from the server so please help me...and yes i am in admin...
Perhaps you could create another complete description of what you have, and where it is, with whatever operating system you use, A little more detail might help us both.
I recorded a program in HD60 on my Kodak Zx1. I watched a few minutes of the recording on a television, then stopped, planning to download it to my computer and edit it later. When I came back, the SD card read empty. I have no idea what happened.
I used Recuva on the SD card, and have come up with a few files, 2 of which appear to be my video - one is about 30 minutes long, the other, ten. But when I play the files, all I see is BLACK. The files are .mov files. I've tried to open the files in several programs, including Quicktime, but if they read at all, the screen comes up, the video is obviously playing ( the timer is moving), but there is nothing but black.
I'm hoping to much to be able to recover and play these files of my daughter singing. Can anyone help me?
It may be time to get another video camera. Today's smart phones do a good job taking video shots

I reinstalled the GPU on its usual port, and it wouldn't give me an image. So i set it on another port, and voila, image. i doubt it fixed my problem though.
I'm gonna report later if it goes out of sync again
Just wondering if anyone can help. My dvd drive crashed when i was burning files onto a dvd. now all the files are gone. anyone know what i can do to access the files on the dvd? do data recovery programs really help? has this happened to anyone else? is there a way to retrieve the already burned files, or is it a lost cause?
No files left on the hard drive? What program did you use to copy the files to the DVD drive? Can you read the DVD on another computer?
Not sure if this belongs here or on the networking board. Anyway...
We have a network of about 20 pcs. I recently installed four new machines that run Windows 7 with Office 2010. The server is running Server 2003. Three of the machines worked perfectly from the beginning, accessing the server and sharing folders and files. One machine will only open files in "read only" mode. I have shared all the folders and given every permission there is but it will only open the files in "read only". It is a critical accounting machine that has to share and change files. What am I missing?
hmm; your wording is imprecise so need to make sure what you mean,
Office 2010 can not be shared other than the Calendar events and that's not done
You don't state the application that is sharing the common file on the server,
but I assume some accounting system installed on multiple client systems are attempting
concurrent access to the same accounting data.
You don't say if this has ever worked before with this setup or if this is the initial install for the Sharing of the accounting data.
First action is to access that file by only one system at a time (ie: disconnect the mapped Drive letter) and get that working.
Hello I have external Samsung G USB station I had two different folders show drive and doesn't External files partitions one primary just for files and one logical for files also All the time I use WinXP Linux and Vista on different computers mostly Everything was fine But when I bought a brand new DVD with Win and installed on my brand new laptop the strange things became Now I ll try to define my problem as much as possible clearly and accurately My laptop with Win shows that logical drive but when I go in there I can t see my folders and files they are not hidden of course In properties I can see that these files ARE there I suppose that by the External drive doesn't show files and folders free and used space of that partition and I really know how GBs was there so in properties seems that anything is not lost When I connect External drive doesn't show files and folders drive to a different computer with let s say Vista it doesn t show these files also Same with XP But I can reach my files on Linux Another strange thing is that all the information in the other partition primary drive is accessible without any probs Now I copied all these files into Linux and used to format that partition NTFS and made it primary also I did it on Win So I have two primary drives now Then I brought all the information from Linux back into that drive under my investigation Everything was fine and I was so glad till I restarted mtfk Computer When I use Norton Partition Manager for browsing that drive I can see these folders and files One more thing I observed on Vista these folders icons seem like shortcuts now What is very strange really I can reach them in fact But I can t on XP or Win now Then I ve experimented a bit I copied two small files on that drive intentionally Surprisingly I can see these freshly loaded files both on Vista and XP On Win also But can t see these previously loaded files So WTF May anyone be able to help to resolve this confusing problem nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/external-drive-doesnt-show-files-and-folders.174247/
Hi, Just installed new 500gig Seagate sata hdd on computer, everything good. connected old 250 gig Seagate, now on startup, xp goes to chkdsk on F: and starts deleting the the files I want to keep. How can I set up the 2nd hdd as storage only?
Thanks in advance.
here is what i think it might be but u might wanna post a screen shot of the process using ur camera or cellphone camera to be sure what we're dealing with,
it might be re arranging files. HDD sorts file differently than u might think "i put my games in a folder then they're together physically" not true ur games folder could be scattered around the HDD's media and linked so u see them in the same place during a sudden shutdown "power out shutdown or restart using ur power\reset buttons" some files might be orphaned "lost its link to the others" so u dont see it in its place in that case chkdsk seeks those orphan files and reconnects them to their proper places so u when u open ur games folder u see all ur games there or some files wasnt saved properly so they get lost if ur pc suddenly shuts down and they remain as pieces they case some issues so chkdsk has to get rid of them.
how should i get the my files back , as they are encrypted in laptop having windows vista..
Assuming both systems are working, first decrypt them where the are,
get both attached to the same router
setup Print/File sharing
copy from one to the other
If the system are remote from one another, after the decrypt, copy them to a USB thumbdrive which can then be moved to the other location.
1T/B Western Digital external drive not being recognized
I have a WD 1T/B external hard drive that is not being recognized by my computer anymore. It just stopped working. When I plug the USB cable in, Windows recognizes that the device is there, and says that it has installed the approapriate software for the device and it is ready to use. However, the drive does not appear in My Computer. Also, I have right-clicked on my computer and then the Manage option, and under Disk Management, I do not see the drive. I have all of my sports games and music on the drive. I just need some help on how to solve this problem.
Tried another PC? Its possible something in the enclosure died and the drive itself is fine. Could open the enclosure up and put the drive in another one or put it internally in a PC.
Hello everyone. I know there's probably been posts similar to mine, but I have not learned all I wanted from previous posts. Recently, my hard drive gave out on my XP computer. The issue seems to be that it will not be read as a master drive, but will run fine as a slave on my other XP computer. That being said, I can view the general program files, ect. on the drive when viewed with Explorer in my Computer, but cannot access my pictures and music and such. As mentioned in similar post, the same amount of usage is being reported, but not all of that data is viewable or present. How can I access my pictures and music? (I understand from other posts that it might have something to do with it being password protected if my previous computer installation of XP was password protected?)
Its more down to user permissions, you dont have permission to access it, Personally i would take the hard drive and slip it in a computer with windows 7, then reset the permissions to whicherever user i want ( this is done by right clicking the drive/folder and changeing under the permissions tab)
From reading a couple old threads here, I am starting to think that my laptop turns off randomly because of a bad fan. So I checked under my laptop, and I can't feel air flow from anywhere, nor do I see a fan spinning.
I have a satellite a105-s4284. I am including a picture of the bottom of the laptop, where I have circled where I believe the fan to be. It is not spinning. Should it be spinning at all times, at least to some extent? If this is where the fan is located, then I definitely need to order another one.
Thanks for the help!
ugh, well i can't post a picture, because my post count is too low. but just confirming that the fan should be spinning at all times should suffice.
if the temp is cold the fan sometimes stopped.
but, for all laptops, when you turn them on, the fan should spin, no matter the temperature is, for few seconds.

Just discovered this information and the user has the Comodo Firewall.
If you're using another firewall, you must open these ports yourself so that your computer can find other computers and devices that have files or printers that you want to share.
To find other computers running Windows Vista or Windows 7, open these ports:
* UDP 3702
* UDP 5355
* TCP 5357
* TCP 5358
To find other computers running earlier versions of Windows, and to use file and printer sharing on any version of Windows, open these ports:
* UDP 137
* UDP 138
* TCP 139
* TCP 445
* UDP 5355
To find network devices, open these ports:
* UDP 1900
* TCP 2869
* UDP 3702
* UDP 5355
* TCP 5357
* TCP 5358
To make HomeGroup work correctly between computers running Windows 7, open these ports:

I mistakenly plugged in my hard drive with the cable twisted and has hence not seen on any system I plugged it into afterwards,it sounds as though it is spinning inside with the indicator light on but wouldn't just come up, the light blinks but nothing is seen in my computer nor disk management,I have tried different cables, system but nothing.
Is there a way I can get my files back?
You can try removing it from the enclosure. It will void the warranty, but if you are more interested in the data than the warranty it's worth a shot.
My guess is your physically damaged the plug when you forced it in the wrong way (the unit is keyed, so you must have used considerable force to do that), but the actual drive inside is probably undamaged. Remove it from the case and hook it up via SATA.
Actually - I did a little research on this and I guess it will depend on what version you have. Apparently the B8B version has the USB controller built into the drive itself, so you wouldn't be able to do as I suggested.
Check out this video - this guy explains why the B8B version is different.
Hello everybody, I have a home network with about 3 computer connected. I am using a laptop and when ever I use the net view command in cmd, I can only view my laptop. Why can't I see the other 2 computer?
All the computer have Win. 7 Home Premium Installed. Is there a way to send messages to those computers within the network, without the use of 3rd party applications... Perhaps by cmd?
I know you can, but I am unsure how.

Make sure you have administrator rights. I will assume you are on at least Win XP.. Right click on the folder in question, go to properties, security. Check the setting there. Add yourself to the list.
Looking for anyone out there that may know more about computers in relation to Animation and D Art It seems like Mac Animation or Art) PC (Digital and 3D a never ending debate on what s better The PC or the Mac Some will argue the Mac and others will PC or Mac (Digital Animation and 3D Art) fight to the death for the PC Putting gaming a side when comparing something like the The Enthusiast s PC http www techspot com guides buying page html and IMac ghz http store apple com us browse ho PC or Mac (Digital Animation and 3D Art) select afid p frgl amp PC or Mac (Digital Animation and 3D Art) cid AOS-US-SHOP-Froogle Which one would you recommend keep in mind we are talking about art related software and programs I d also like to be able to run multiple monitors comparable to the eyefinity setup that AMD has Or is there some other build you would recommend I m a new student and have approx to spend on a computer for school The package as to come with everything I ve also read that stacking a lot of RAM is essential for this sort of use out of a computer Thoughts Suggestions Thanks for taking the time to respond nbsp
Not the apple.
just bought the WD2002FAEX. Its a SATA 3 controller, and I have the Asus P6T SE board.... installed properly and got it to show up in BIOS and Explorer but it keeps telling me Access is Denied... later set the jumper to 3.0gb/s but still no progress. does this mean my drive is DOA or is there another inherent problem I'm not aware of?
Did you format it yet?
I bought a used HP 9100C digital sender and I get a "Network Access Failure" error message on my pc when I try to create the "HP 9100C Login with the HP software. Any thoughts?
I'm currently having a hardware fault, happened awhile ago now but I can afford a new GPU now if I have to but thought I'd futher investergate whats going on. So thought I'd ask for some help.
Turned PC on one day, got the blue screen booted into safe mode tried a few things forgot how I found out but I disabled my display drivers and then my PC was able to boot up without safe mode. Since then all my PC does is watch movies, surf the net and just the basic stuff.
So my GPU is still sending a video signal but if I enable the device, my PC either gets a blue screen or hangs on a black screen after loading windows vista
The card I was running is a geforce 9800GTX-2 in yes my PSU is powerful enough
"So my GPU is still sending a video signal but if I enable the device"...
Graphics cards... or anything else in a computer need drivers to function. Download and install the proper drivers for your GeForce card here:
Do they require much setup or just plug in and it auto connects to your network and starts backing up files?
So I have a month old WD passport gb external usb hd I have it partitioned into an ntfs and fat partitions I Western recognized not Digital Passport plugged the hd into an internet cafes computer and it didn t recognise Since then no computers will recognise the hd I have tried several recovery software including the wd own software Also tried a different shorter cable The light starts up as normal and the hd doesn Western Digital Passport not recognized t make any unusual noises but after a second Western Digital Passport not recognized or the light goes dim like there is no activity inside I also tried chkdisk from command and still nothing If I could just get the hd to show up maybe I can use these recovery programs to recover data Even if I lost the data and just got to use my hd again I would be happy Any ideas from anyone would be HUGELY appreciated I have spent hours on google trying to find a solution short of sending it away for repair which would cost more than its worth Also heard a trick of putting it in the freezer but I m not sure about any of this Thanks for reading nbsp
Anyone had this happen before?
When I copy music files from my PC to a USB external hard drive, some of the files get corrupted and can't be opened. First times this happened I thought it was a faulty hard drive so got another one - exactly same problem. Then I found that the same thing happened when I tried copying music or photo files to a USB flash drive and also to a music player. All the drives work fine when connected to a netbook. Could it be a problem with the USB ports? I've tried using different ports on the PC but always get the same problem. My PC is 5 years old, 2x2.8Ghz Pentium, runs XP and has 2 front and 6 rear USB ports. Anyone come across this and is there anything I can do to solve it short of buying a new PC?
Is XP updated to Service Pack 3? How much memory do you have installed?
I am coming to my TechSpot family for some advice I realize that this may not be the realm of experience for the majority of us due to the nature of the specific need but I decided to give it a shot Long story short My son will be entering community college this fall and will be pursuing an A A degree in Digital Design and then move on to a year institution he has been accepted into Drexel University in Philadelphia but my wife and I don t have thousand The core courses he will be doing are Color amp D Design Graphic Design Art with Computers Web Graphics amp Digital laptop? desktop or degree: design Animation and Digital design degree: desktop or laptop? Web Page Design I do know he must Digital design degree: desktop or laptop? have access to Adobe Flash CS and there will be animation software involved but I have not been able to find out anything else -- I ve tried I doubt Digital design degree: desktop or laptop? he ll be doing D Rendering during this time and even if he does the college s systems will have to do So it looks like he will mostly be doing D Illustration Animation I am going back and forth of a either building a good solid home system his current one is a year old socket with an Athlon single core cpu and XP Pro and getting him a mid-range laptop OR b putting the money into a laptop with an i processor - gigs of RAM and a dedicated card In my opinion Option A makes more sense because I will build in order to upgrade as needed but as my son has pointed out to me that in two years he will be moving on and dorm life isn t actually ideal for a PC system whereas a laptop would be The problem with the latter is that no matter how powerful a current laptop is the ability to upgrade is much easier with a PC system Also laptops can get stolen much easier plus repairing a desktop is something I can do It may sound like I have my mind up but I don t Thoughts please and recommend me some hardware I have no budget in mind at this point but I am thinking even a mid-range desktop would more than suffice Thanks nbsp
Well, for digital imaging you really should have an IPS monitor. That said, unless you're going to spring for a Macbook Pro, I don't definitely know what other lappies have them.
Other than that, I was in Phila Community College a few years back, and one of the security guards was robbing high end photo imaging and computer equipment from the labs. Maybe your area, has a better class of individual.
The school terminals left something to be desired also, can't speak to nowadays though.
Personally, I wouldn't spend more for a laptop than I could afford to lose. But, I have the luxury of not even really needing the $300.00 Celeron laptop I have. That sort of nulls the validity of my opinion.
Anyway, if you decide to go for a home machine, look at the Intel Core i5-2500 as a basis. PC World Magazine tested a couple of souped up desktops with that CPU. They turned in "World Bench" scores of over 200!
(Granted you have to have been following "World Bench" test scores for a while to have the s*** impressed out of you like I did.
My old computer finally gave up the ghost and I didn t feel like trying to salvage it so I built can't files WD access HDD Passport external - 120GB a new one All of my most important files photos music were on the external hdd already so I quickly backed up some other files and was good to go However when I tried moving the files from the external hdd I immediately ran into problems WD Passport 120GB external HDD - can't access files When I plug in the drive in the USB port it gets detected just fine However when I try exploring the drive it takes a loooooong time for my computer to detect the files I guess When I double-click on the drive location it opens up the first page of folders just fine But then I click on a sub-folder and it takes a full minute or two for all of the folders about a dozen or so within that folder to be populated onto the list Then the fun really starts Each time I click on a folder in any way the window freezes for seconds It doesn t freeze my computer just that explorer window Then I can -sometimes- double-click on the folder but depending on which folder it is I get a different error message It seems like the older folders are more likely to open I was able to successfully copy and paste one folder into my new computer Then there is one folder full of pictures that opens but only some of the pictures can be copied over -- the others give me an error message saying quot Cannot copy file Cannot read from the source file or disk quot The newest folder on the drive when I try to open it gives me an error message saying that the drive needs to be formatted Uh no thanks I ve tried the drive on computers My new desktop running Windows my netbook running Windows XP and an old desktop that runs XP Same behavior on all of them I ve tried using the program DataRecovery to see if it worked on the external hdd but it gave me the error quot Data error cyclic redundancy check quot What should I do Thanks in advance Sorry if I ve left out anything important nbsp
All the stuff we learn after the fact ..
in the future, in my opinion, don't trust your backup files on portable, bus-powered USB drives. Get a external USB drive that 1) has its own power cable - these are "self-powered" not bus-powered and 2) is going to sit on your desk and not be constantly moved, stirred and shaken!
That said, self-powered USB drives (especially those WD passport) can only draw power over the USB port and sometimes require more power from the usb port then they should (which can cause problems).
You can try connecting to a self-powered hub (one that can supply power from its own AC adapter) or try a USB Y cable that can provide extra power to the drive by using 2 ports. (something like THIS)
Hopefully, your problem will be solved by providing extra power to the drive. tho of course sometimes the drive itself is just failing. best of luck
/* EDIT */
OH. The 2nd bit of important advice re: backups... Remember that ANYTHING (even reliable hardware) can fail. Always keep 2 copies of important files backed up on physically separate media
Last night when I logged in to Rapidahare, I realised all or most of my files were gone, and there are some important files I need to retrive it, and I had already contacted Rapidshare about this, their reply was :
However, maybe you find the files in the Trash Folder in your account. If they
are deleted, there is no way to recover deleted files.
I'm sorry for the inconvenienc
can anyone tell me how to retrive the files and to find out the date the files were deleted? or also the ip address
Maybe one of your family or friends that you share data with deleted your files...
Hi all. I am a photographer. Usually I do all files back up. However this ones I didn't. I woke up in the morning and BUM. Files were no longer on my drive. I have not used the drive since then, but need to know what file recovery software would be the best to recover them?

ok, my hard drive is a caviar black 1tb, (WD1001FALS) , its like less than one and a half years old ,today my coomputer started freezing momentarily, i tested the hard drive and turns out it has some bad sectors...HD tune benchmark fails, WD Diagnostics utility fails during diagnostics...: heres screenshots of HD Tune:
so how can i fix this? i did some googling, turns out that the drives controller shouldve done it automatically and transparently ....well it didnt, so what do i do?
Time for a new drive. I've been where you are now. There are times when diagnostics can fix certain sector issues, but like you I have had to get a replacement because it was beyond the drive's controller to rectify the problem.
A shame for you because the WD Caviar Blacks are some of their best.
My wife dropped my brand new External WD HDD and it won't work.
I tried it on my Vista laptop and my Win7 Desktop.
In both computers the HDD will increase the booting time by 7-12 minutes and the HDD is detected, BUT it can not be opened/seen with the windows explorer.
It is 1.5TB in size and right now I am using HHD Regenerator with a bootable CD to recover the disk. The thing is that it has been 10 hours and only 0.04% of the disk has been scanned...1028MB to be precise and it keeps findings "bad sectors". I have like 2.100.000 bad sectors detected...at this rate it will take like 20 days to finish the scan...why is it taking so long???
Pls help, I need to rescue some info from that HDD.
Thanks in advance,
Personally in my line of work, I've had to recover a lot of failing hard drives, but never did I have to recover one that had been dropped, that's a new one for me. I have heard, but never used, that program you speak of. I myself try to do my best to transfer information on a "going out" hard drive to another, rather than try and "regenerate" one.
Now mind you, the hard drive has been dropped, if dropped upon a carpeted floor, you may have a chance! Dropped upon a hard wood floor or tile floor and linoleum flooring, you most likely are out of luck.
If you can you should try and find yourself a spare hard drive, hook it up to your system and try running a program called "Drive Copy"! Might have better luck to just copy the hard drive, as it is now. Then worry about reforming or regenerating a hard drive.
And if all else fails, you said two key words in your post, which were brand new, you said the drive is brand new, so if you got the original packaging, sometimes not required, and you still have the sales slip, package all that together, and get yourself back to the store and get another new external hard drive.
"Seriously Mr. or Mrs. or Ms. salesperson, the drive just wont work, I can only wonder why"
Good luck to you..............
