Preferred Solution: Can a DDR3 graphics card run in a DDR2 Motherboard?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can a DDR3 graphics card run in a DDR2 Motherboard?

The DDR2 slots on the motherboard refer to the desktop RAM sticks. GDDR3 on a graphics card doesn't make any difference, it's the connector (PCI Express 2.0 probably) that slots into the mobo.

Hi, I have a EVGA e-GeForce 7600GT 256 MB PCIe Video Card which supports the SLI technology allowing me to link up 2 or more graphics cards for greater performance. Now this card has DDR3 memory. I wanted to know if I can link it up with a DDR2 memory graphics card which also supports SLI. If I can, how will this difference affect performance?

A:Linking a DDR2 memory graphics card with DDR3 SLI graphics card?

Now this card has DDR3 memoryClick to expand...

Which card?? "A card with DDR3 memory", or "A thingy with a red switch on it" tell us just as much.
But if it's not another 7600 GT you're trying to SLi, just forget it, especially if you're going to buy the other card.

So does ddr2 graphics cards require some other kind of motherboard? thanks.

My motherboard has 2 X DDR2 slots and 2 X DDR3 slots. I recently bought 2 X 4GB DDR3 sticks to put into my computer. I am currently running 2 X 2GB DDR2 sticks. Are the two RAM types compatible?

When I installed the DDR3 RAM my computer will not turn on. I have yet to try to take out my DDR2 sticks and just use the new DDR3. Will that make a difference?

A:My motherboard says DDr2 Support..newegg says Ddr3?

P5G41-M LE is DDR2, and the P5G41T-M LE you linked to is DDR3.

If you look at a DDR2 memory slot the keying notch is close to the middle. On DDR3 it is noticably closer to one end.

So I don't think it would... But if I have a DDR2 board with DDR2 RAM would it make my computer unstable to put a video card with DDR3 in it?

Posted via Mobile Device

A:DDR3 video card on DDR2 board?

no.

Memory on the video card is for the GPU (graphics chip) to store the image data. It has nothing to do with your computer ram. Note: many of todays video cards have gDDR5.... how many DDR5 motherboards are out there? None.

Issue with video card you should be concerned with is power supply and abilties to play the games you want to play.

I got myself a new mainboard that is based on the ATX DDR3 AMD standard. But I also thought that the old NVIDIA Sparkle (GTX260--896MB) that is based on the DDR2 internal memory set still would work since the connector on the card is PCI-express. Does the DDR2 memory (896MB DDR internal graphics memory) stop the communication with the DDR3 mainboard? Its a bit unfear since this was not the case between DDR1 up to DDR2. Why has there come up such a brickwall between DDR2 and DDR3. Or am I wrong?

A:DDR2 video card on a DDR3 mainboard?

I think you're confusing system RAM with video RAM, they're separate things. What's the model of your motherbaord? If it has a PCI-E slot your GTX 260 should work.

1. Does ddr2 or ddr3 matter on the video card..is one better to run on XP
2. 64-bit or 32-bit. I assume 64 will run on 32-bit XP
3. Any suggestions on the card or where to buy (PCI Express 2.0X16)
Thanks! Ynot

A:Does it matter if you use a DDR3 or DDR2 video card?

The only thing you need to know about buying a single graphics card:

Do I have a large enough power supply for this card?
Do I have the appropriate card slot for this card?
If the card is 2 (or 3) card slots wide do I have room in my case?
What monitor cable connector will I be using?

Everything else may be important for choosing the card you want but not needed to get the card working.

1) Graphics card memory type is irrelevant as far as the operating system is concerned.
2) I'm not sure why you are asking the second question.
3) We need to know what you will be using the card for. (A slim form factor doesn't give much options)

The GT630 is a rebranded 440.

Speaking as someone who prefers NVidia's drivers, I think that the 6670 would be superior.

If you could find an HD 7750 at a reasonable price (seems to fall within the 6670 range), it would be better still.

Could someone please explain to me the difference between ddr2 and ddr3 ram. I've heard many different explanations and am still confused. My understanding is that the grooves that slot into the mobo (where the brass contacts are) is simply at different positions on the ram modules and the module will only fit into the mobo if it is supported. Am I correct?

A:DDR2 vs DDR3

Yes the DDR2 modules and the DDR3 modules both have 240 pins. The keyways are in different locations so you can only install DDR3 modules in a DDR3 motherboard. DDR's highest speed is 400MHz. DDR2's highest speed is 800MHz. DDR3 highest speed is 1000MHz

Hi all,

I currently have 3Gb of DDR2 memory, in 2 slots (1x 1GB, 1x 2GB) - however i wanted to increase this to 4GB or even 6GB. Basically i was wondering if the following factors would affect my choice:

1-Is there a limit of how much RAM i can have in my motherboard?
2-Can i cross between DDR3 and DDR2 memory in the two slots, or do i have to keep the same type in each? - (and also, whats the difference between the two)

Thank You

If your motherboard currently supports DDR2, then you can only add DDR2. They're not slot compatible.

My Windows Experience Index, for what it's worth, gives me a 5.9 in the RAM category (and the HD category) but 6.8 - 6.9 in the others (processor, graphics, gaming graphics).

Thanks in advance.

I'm contemplating upgrading my computer piece by piece since I don't have money for a full overhaul right now. I definitly want to get a new intel core duo 2, probably the E6750 processor model. I also want to go for a P35 chipset motherboard (i dont care for the brand, as long as its a decent one e.g. gigabyte intel asus etc).

My problem is that i am not sure whether i should spend the extra money to go for DDR3 as of this moment or should I wait and buy a board that has DDR2 support and go for DDR3 way later like the next upgrade (which I can just upgrade the motherboard if i ahve to).
what are your opinions?
thanks, adam

The card should work just fine. What I'd be more concerned with is your power supply; the 6670 requires a 400W PSU at bare minimum, so you'd be skating on thin ice with that setup, in my opinion.

A:Another gig of DDR2 or upgrade to DDR3?

Unless you are running a 64bit version of Windows you won't be able to address the full 4 gig of memory. That aside, don't believe it's really worth investing in another motherboard for socket 775 as it is coming to the end of it's life cycle. Might want to consider upgrading a core component like your graphics card that could be carried over to your next system.

I am looking at a new system for general word processing, internet, and accessing databases on a network. I am under the impression that DDR3 is better and faster (1066 MHz). However, when pricing systems am I better to go with the 4 GB DDR2 or 2 GB DDR3? Less memory, newer technology, and faster clock speed. The system will only need to last 3 years before another upgrade.

Am I better off going with the 4 GB of the the older RAM or 2 GB of the newer DDR3?

A:4 GB DDR2 800 MHz or 2 GB DDR3 1066 MHz?

Hey Mose,
you will not notice a performance difference between DDR2 and DDR3 for the purposes you stated, so 4 gb of the DDR2 make sense. and if you are going to upgrade in three years then you will undoubtedly be building or buying a new system anyway, so the DDR3 you would purchase now would have no place in an upgrade three years from now anyway.

I am currently running ddr2 800mhz but my board can support higher ,would it be wise to upgrade to the higher speed ram ?

Or should i stick with planing to buy a new board and new memory all together, meaning a board that supports DDR3.

Im wondering if it would benefit me anything since im having alot of bsod issues now that have a higher stock chip and my ram is at the lowest mhz the board offers and my card always crashes playing left for dead 2.

I have not tryed other games yet but im figuring i need to get higher ram to support the cpu better can someone give me a good opinion my specs are already listed .

I am prepared to do either or but im thinking picking up 8 gigs of higher ram would be better like 1066mhz

Hello yvesj and welcome to the forums

The hard drive and CPU that you use will work regardless of the RAM you have (be it DDR3 or DDR2). You just have to make sure that your CPU is the same socket as your motherboard and that your motherboard supports the type of RAM you go for. Post your specs and we can have a look over them for you

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question... the differerence between DDR 1,2 and 3.... in terms of pin placement on the motherboard? and am i correct in saying there is no motherboard that supports 2 different types of RAM? also... i wanted to find out the different speeds of RAM eg: 400MHZ,660MHZ 1333MHZ etc.. does that change the compatibility with the motherboard? For example, DDR2 400MHZ is installed can you insert DDR2 800MHZ and it will work? and if so will it work together with the 400 or must you have the same speed with all your RAM?

A:Difference between DDR, DDR2 and DDR3

There is no reason to post two identical threads.

DDR1 is 184 pin, while DDR2 and DDR3 are both 240 pin, so some motherboards support both DDR2 and DDR3.
If the speed is not supported by the motherboard, it will revert to the highest supported speed.
All RAM will run at the speed of the slowest module. In theory, it should work; I wouldn't count on it.

Are you asking if you go to a different mb that supports ddr3 are you going to get better fps?

You do understand your memory will downclock to 400/800 if you install more than 2 memory chips.

I would appreciate any coments or suggestions.

A:Substituting DDR2 Memory for DDR3

Memory controller and DIMM slots have to be DDR3 compatible.

So no, you cannot.

With an AM3 CPU you would need a new motherboard.
With any other socket CPU you would need a new motherboard, and possibly a new CPU.

Currently, DDR2 is better for most systems anyway.

DDR3, here's more info, stands for "double data rate."
Ok, here's how I see it, I may be wrong. Ok, DDR is the transfer of data correct, well DDR3 would transfer 3 times the data than the DDR(with the invisible 1 after).

Also about crysis, I'm not to sure about the performance of that card, but it will run HOT on medium... Try the very low or low setting or you better get some cooling ready.

EDIT: I've looked around on the web and found that crysis alone uses like 1 GB of memory on medium setting, that excludes other programs.

My motherboard is a gigabyte 71xe4 and has never caused me any problems with my old gfx card (voodoo3 pci). However i just bought a geforce2 64mb mx400 AGP card and now my pc won't start. I have ensured the card is in the slot correctly and have removed the voodoo. When i switch on i just get the 2-1 beeps (2 quick beeps followed shortly after by another). I assume the pc is believing there to not be a gfx card so how do i solve this?

I am on the original BIOS (there is a prob with win 98 dos mode where the fan stops, there is an update to solve it but i never use dos so i dont see the point in risking my bios on an unnessecary update), will i have to finally update my bios to get it to work? Or is there some other way?

Thanks
Will

Hey All, i currently own a Dell Vostro 410 desktop and was wondering if my motherboard supports SLI?
Board: Dell Inc. 0J584C A00
If it is not SLI compatible, is there anyway of making it SLI without changing the motherboard.
If the answer is no to the above... then do you suggest i overclock my 512 mb Nvidia 8800GT or just buy a new graphics card with double the memory... the real problem is that i want to enjoy playing high intensive games at 1680x1050 but at the same time not get graphics lag.
Lastly, any suggestions of good graphics card with the budget of ?1-?90

A:Graphics Card/Motherboard Question

I don't think it is SLI compatible, and the only way to change that is to upgrade the motherboard.

If you can stretch to an extra ?10 or so, (?15 including postage on scan.co.uk), then I'd recommend this card GS-250X-YDFC - 512MB XFX GTS 250, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), Mem 256Bit 2200 MHz, GDDR3, GPU 738 MHz, HDTV/DVI, Retail - Scan.co.uk. Or you could get something like an ATI Radeon 4850 as well Computer Hardware - All - GPU - ATI - Scan.co.uk, but again you'd need to stretch your budget a bit more.

The only card you could upgrade to in that price range is a 9800GT or something, but that won't really give you a noticable difference over your 8800GT.

I'm currently looking at a computer, considering purchasing it.
It has an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce SPP 100 ATX AMD motherboard, and also, according to the builder, a Sapphire Radeon X1900XTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 video card.

Now, I've also been told that the Radeon video card couldn't work in the motherboard with an nVidia chipset.

So, I'd kind of like to know, can the aforementioned video card work with the aforementioned motherboard?

Nvidia quadro k620 graphics card
Killer Fatal1ty z97 mother board with onboard hdmi

Ok, so Im extremely new to the tech world, and I just built my first computer. I've been using my tv as my monitor via my hdmi cable. I plugged in my graphics card to my pcie slot and then my hdmi wouldn't work. I kind of assumed that the video card was overriding the onboard graphics. No problem - i plugged in a spare monitor to install the nvidia drivers, and I assumed I was done. Went to plug in the hdmi cable to the motherboard hdmi slot and it's not working. Am I stuck with using the two ports that are attached to the k620? Or can I use my motherboard hdmi port still? This is going to ruin me if I can't use the hdmi.

Thanks in advance

A:new graphics card - now I can't use motherboard hdmi

You can only use the new video card.

Why are you using a Quadro K620 ?

NVIDIA Quadro K620

You need a dvi to hdmi cable, but that won`t transmit sound, hope that is not an issue. (TV speakers suck)

What is the exact make and model of the PC ?

If you were happy with the PC, then why install the K620 ?

I have an older graphics card, GeForce 9500gt, and I would like to find out if it will be compatible to a newer motherboard, Asus A88XM-A. I have been searching for a list that would let me just compare the two, but can't find too much information for devices that are older. Lots of stuff that says how to pick a new fast card with a new fast processor, but not too much for older to older.

A:Motherboard to Graphics card compatibility

The prime requirement is to determine what type slots the motherboard has and what the video card will fit. Over the years we have progressed from ISA [no longer in use] to PCI to AGP to PCIe/PCI Express. PCIe video is usually PCIe X16. Then if the card will fit one has to determine if there are software drivers for it or if the drivers are built into the OS/Operating System, in this case Win10. Some cards of more than 2 years age work but anything much older may be hit or miss, depends upon what the maker has made available.

Make sure that you installed the VIA AGP driver in 'Turbo' mode - otherwise you will be restricted to AGP1X only

A:Graphics card or Motherboard problem?

silly question, but does the AGP/PCI-e slot have a sliding card lock on it? If so, make sure its being used.

Also, as above, use the motherboard as a variable: put the card in another PC. If it works, then its the mother board. If it doesnt, then its the card.

Whenever my CPU gets moved or hit slightly my Graphics card stops working. I noticed the fan would turn off and I lose the signal to my monitor. My question, how can I tell if its my MB or GFX card? Or both?

I recently built a new computer and when i went to turn it on for the first time the DVI output on my graphics card wasnt showing anything, so instead i just connected it to the DVI port on my motherboard and everything seemed to work fine (i assumed i needed to install the driver for it to work). I then proceeded and installed Windows 7 64-bit and then proceeded with the mothboard drivers. After that was done i attempted to install the graphics card drivers. The installer came up, but it could not detect my graphics card.

The fans on the card are spinning and the cords are connected properly, it just doesnt register on my windows 7 or for that matter in the BIOS.

My specs are as follows:
Thermaltake 775watt Toughpower XT Power Supply
ASUS Radeon HD6950 1GB
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.4 GHz
Patriot Gamer 16GB DDR3 1600GHz

A:Solved: graphics card for this motherboard?

What games do you want to play/what programs do you want to use? What resolution? Also, tell your power supply model, that will be the only limiting factor here, there's thousands of new and old cards to choose from for you. I would assume your power supply is insufficient and you need a new one(reason: that board comes in a pre-built system and they have crappy power supplies).
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008
Graphics card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150247
That would be enough for you if you don't want to play the latest games. 100 $ after MIRs.
If you want to play some new games, get Radeon 4670 instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127383

I have a XFX XG31i motherboard and am looking at buying the nVidia GTX 560 graphics card. Can anyone tell me if the card is compatible with the motherboard, or do I need to upgrade it as well?
Thanks

A:Graphics Card - Motherboard Compatibility

It should be compatible, my only concern would be this is a double-height card so if you had something in the adjacent slot space could be an issue.
A bigger concern is your power supply - does it have the required connectors and does it meet the power requirements of the card? It requires a 500w PSU, but you would be better off with a qood quality higher wattage unit.

edit: it looks like it comes with the molex to six-pin adapters, but you still need four free molex connectors.

I was looking at the Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 An for the life of me i cant figure out a good graphics card combination or solo for it, It has 1 PCIe X16 slot to fit the high end card then 1 PCIe X1 then two PCI slots. Its crossfire works as long as the cards are within the same chipset (so 6000 series e.g. 6570, 6670) Has anyone used or have any idea about the best way to use this motherboard? It can support an incredible CPU and A very large portion of RAM but i need to know what kind of GPU (or GPU's) i can place in it before i am willing to set myself to buy it.

I'm building my first computer. I bought a GeForce GTX 660 ti graphics card and a Biostar TZ77A motherboard. The computer boots up fine without the graphics card, but when I do plug it in, the monitor goes black ("no signal"), and I am unable to do anything. I cannot install the GTX 660 ti drivers without the unit being connected, and cannot connect the unit without the monitor going blank. Catch 22.

I called EVGA and they thought it might be a motherboard compatibility issue. Tried to update the drivers for the mobo, but not sure which ones need it. Tried to contact Biostar's non-existant customer service, and eventually navigated to a page with a number that is out of service. Not sure what to do- any help much appreciated!
