Acer aspire 5749-6823 keyboard intermittent, touchpad a.w.o.l.

Q: Acer aspire 5749-6823 keyboard intermittent, touchpad a.w.o.l.

Just ruled out malware in other section of this forum. Laptop's integrated keyboard suffers intermittent lock-ups for no apparent reason (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, right now, doesn't). Touchpad seems deactivated (tried FN + F7 in case of accidental disable, but that's not the case), every option related to touchpad are grayed out in 'mouse' menu (config panel). Before malware check-up,tried system restore to last week, all problems were still there, so I reverted back. I have to use visual keyboard to type. Have to work with external mouse because touchpad doesn't work. Tried reinstalling touchpad drivers from Acer website, and didn't work. Computer worked perfect a few days ago.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like you may have some system files corrupt. This can occur after a lot of spyware. Some times just removing it dose not correct what it has already messed up. Your best maybe to back up your personal stuff. Then do a factory reinstall.

A:Sleep Problems with Acer Aspire 4530-6823

If sleep doesn't work it's probably drivers. Try updating your video and sound drivers. If the laptop is relatively new look for an option to create recovery discs first. As for the BSOD's/STOP errors there is a guide I've written in my sig if you want to debug them. If not, .zip them up and upload them.

A:Acer Aspire E1-531-4461 Intermittent Power Problem

What you are describing does not sound like normal behavior. It sounds like you have ruled out the power cord and that is good. The only two things that I can think that may cause this kind of behavior is a bad battery, the battery is fluctuating, or as you said the DC jack.

To determine that its not the battery, remove the battery and keep it plugged in and see how it reacts. If the problem disappears then it might be the battery. However, if the problem persists, please contact technical support for further assistance as it may require repair.

I'm having some troubles with my brand new Acer Aspire 7730G (vista).

The touchpad doesn't work quite correctly. The right button is completely non-responsive. Also, a couple of times the touchpad itself was non-responsive to tapping. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, didn't help.

Uhhh, help me. Thanks in advance

Hi everyone. I bought my Aspire ES1-311 just a weeks ago and I re-installed Windows 8.1 but the touchpad does not work. I tried to activate it with "Fn + F7" without success, I installed touchpad drivers (on the official download page of Acer website). The setup said that all is ok but still not working. In the mouse configuration menu of Windows 8.1 (Configuration panel), the Synaptics menu does not appear. On my Ubuntu disbrution, touchpad work fine without any driver. How can I fix this ? I bought an Acer Aspire E5-511, but I have problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1.The touchpad (Synaptics) is not working with Windows 8.1 x64, but it works fine with Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64.When I install Windows 8.1 and have to choose? language to install? I can?t choose anything with the touchpad. I should plug in my mouse to continue. I doesn?t work even when it?s fully installed and with latest driver (available only for win 8.1 x64) from Acer?s website. I tried with an older driver, but had no success. I updated BIOS, but it doesn?t work again. In hardware IDS in device manager it shows HID\? not ACPI\? (like win 7/8). Fn+F7 doesn?t help. When I try to install Windows7/8 the touchpad is working properly at the beginning (I can choose ?language to install?, ?Time and currency format?? and the touchpad works after install even without driver).

Hi

i've got a problem with my touchpad on Acer Aspire 3690, couple days ago it completely quit working, touchpad + the left and rigth keys on it and the scroll key.
When I looked into device manager I saw the exclamation mark beside the SCSI/RAID host Controller. I tried to update or something with that driver with wizard but no result, and also as I turn my laptop on, that wizard turns on and offers me to install it, but at the end it not finds any driver. I re-installed the Synaptic but it didn't help.

Thanx for help in advance. Any suggestion will be appreciated

Hi, I'm running Windows 10 on a Acer Aspire S7-392-6832 laptop. Lately I've been getting jealous of my Macbook friends because of the four-finger swipe that quickly switches the last two open windows (effectively the same as Alt-Tab on my laptop) However, I was wondering why my laptop is not concidered to have a "Windows Precision Touchpad". The drivers that I use (ELANtech - the main driver, and Synaptics) allows for 3 or 4 finger gestures, so surely my expensive 2013 ultrabook laptop has a touchpad that is good enough. Does anyone know how to make the touchpad show up as a "precision" model so I can use the useful gestures (that includes the app-switching in OS X)?  I've tried reinstalling the Synaptics and ELANtech drivers and messing with some other options but that did not work for me.  Thank you.

After updating to Windows 10 some months ago I've got some troubles with my Synaptic touchpad. Generally it's become less sensible so that I need to to tap more than one time and harder to select something. And when I've worked on my Acer Aspire 7745G for a long time the touchpad simply stop working, and the only thing that can make it work again is restarting the pc! A smaller annoying thing is that when drawing a line using the touchpad, moving a tiny bit too fast can make it accelerate out of my control. Hyper-sensibility one could call it! The problems occurs both when using the latest driver from Acer.com Synaptics 14.0.6.0, 2010/04/12, and the one installed automatically with Windows 10, Synaptics 19.0.9.4., 2015/07/14.

I have a month old Acer Aspire E 15 laptop. Its touchpad is very hard and for normal touch it just keeps roaming picking up cells. It can only be stopped by taking off the finger and then carefully taking cursor to an empty cell and press hard to click so the several picked up cells get released and I can work further. I tried Fn+F7 suggested by a forum member but it acts only an On/Off switch for the touchpad. Press Fn+F7 and it goes off, press again it comes back. But the hardness remains. A click with the touchpad means press the touchpad hard till it literally 'clicks'. Looks like the machine will be usable only with a mouse. Before I had a Lenovo and never faced any such problem. Anyone faced such a problem? And any solutions?

Hi,If you have Precision Touchpad in your laptop, go to Settings, Devices and select mouse and touchpad, try disabling features one by one and test whether it resolves the problem, when you say that you have to press hard, did you mean physically? If it is, then it may be a hardware problem and needs a technicians attention.

For the past few months, the right touchpad button does not work with the Windows 10 drivers. Windows 8.1 drivers worked fine. If I switch mouse settings to left handed, then the buttons work fine, but obviously this is awkward to get used to. I have rollbacked the driver to a very old edition and it worked fine, however then I had no synaptics touchpad settings so the touchpad settings could not be altered.

19.0.9.7 is the synaptics version

touchpad works fine on other user accounts

Laptop is an Acer Aspire z with Windows Vista Home Laptop Synaptics Aspire Acer Touchpad Issue Premium -bit fully updated to current I installed an update to Avast's engine and Acer Aspire Laptop Synaptics Touchpad Issue after rebooting when I got to the Windows logon screen both the mouse buttons on both the built-in Synaptics touchpad and an external USB mouse will only select an item but nothing else happens In other words if I click on a user account it selects it but it doesn't allow me to enter a password Likewise if I click on the shutdown icon at the lower right of the screen it just selects it but nothing else happens But I found that if I hit the tab key and then the enter key to select something on this screen then the left mouse button starts working again on the touchpad and the USB mouse When I get into windows the left mouse button on both the built-in touchpad and the external mouse continue to work but the right mouse button on the built-in touchpad doesn't work However the right mouse button on the USB mouse works I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this - uninstalled Avast I'm now using MSE as the anti-virus on this machine - uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for both mouse devices multiple times using different versions for the touchpad one set of drivers from Acer another set from Synaptics - uninstalled the Synaptics device from device manager and let windows reinstall it upon reboot - updated the drivers within device manager it didn't find any that were more current - restored the system back to a system restore point before this started happening - dinked around with all the settings available for mouse - tried toggling FN F the Acer key to turn on off the touchpad functions - tried SAFE mode - same behavior - tried SAFE boot with nearly all services disabled I'm beginning to think this might not have anything to do with drivers since neither mouse device works correctly at the Windows login screen until I hit TAB and then ENTER I think the internals of Vista may be hosed somewhere Acer said that I should do a wipe and reset back to factory state I'd sure like to avoid this Any thoughts Thanks

Something weird happened. It would not work no matter what I tried. I was watching a movie on KODI formerly XBMC. I accidently touched the Keypad and the Mouse moved. I pressed the Video button and it lit up. Only thing that I can figure out is that it took several hours for the driver update to work or that the Video triggered the Touchpad. I had uninstalled and deleted every instance of the driver including the Backup System Reserved created by a MS Tech, when my Windows Ultimate became corrupted. Initialy it had Win-7 Home Premium and when it would not install IE10 at the time MS gave me a free upgrade to Ultimate.Even then it took a week to finally get IE10 installed because the Computer Lacked Service pack1. Kudos to the MS Techs, they called me numerous times and worked on my computer. The spoke excellent English and are based in India. Laptop was out of warranty and Acer pretty much said tough luck, you gotta pay. MS did not charge me one cent.

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to control panel, uninstall "Launch Manager" in Programs, download from here and re-install it:
Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site
Try different drivers for synaptics, for example, Acer Aspire E1-572 Synaptics Touchpad Driver 17.0.6.13 for Windows 8.1 64-bit Drivers download - Synaptics Software Update
EDIT:
If you find ETD Ware in Programs, right click and uninstall it, that's your Elantech but I couldn't see it in your Device manager.

My friends acer laptop has a freeze recently in a Pes6 game we turned it off and when we turned it on we watch everything as a normal windows xp startup when we came to the welcome screen we realized that touchpad and keyboard are not working. We think Fn+F? but the real problem is keyboard is not working at all. We can't access to bios with F2 at the very first startup. We tried to plug in a usb mouse but no electricity activity can be seen in it too. USB's not working either. But there are no errors and windows seems to start without any problem. Have a suggestion?

A:Acer 5101 keyboard usb and touchpad are dead

Hook-up and PS/2 keyboard and mouse to your laptop if you have that hookup or use USB Keyboard and mouse. You need to get into the BIOS and see if the keyboard and mouse is enabled.

Also by doing it this way you can also see under XP what happen. Try removing the battery from the laptop and try it again...

I ve been trying to fix this Acer Aspire laptop for about a year on and off Figured I d ask here before I 5100 touchpad/keyboard/ports - Acer freeze pull the hard drive and brick it Laptop Acer 5100 - touchpad/keyboard/ports freeze boots up fine and everything works for anywhere from two seconds to five minutes give or take Then the touchpad keyboard and all ports usb etc stop Acer 5100 - touchpad/keyboard/ports freeze working The amount of time that they work varies so I have a feeling this is a heat issue The OS and any open programs continue to work though I can t bypass with a mouse since usb ports don t work However I can put it into sleep mode by pressing the Power button so at least that is working When I put it into sleep wait a few minutes and power it back on the touchpad keyboard ports work again but then shut down again after a variable amount of time Again this leads me to believe that this is a heating issue the devices work until the heat causes Acer 5100 - touchpad/keyboard/ports freeze them to disconnect What I ve tried so far Fn F touchpad on off toggle New thermal paste on CPU Removed battery and powered with only the adaper a common battery-related problem with this model Took it apart tried to spot any weakened solder points I m sort of leaning towards the fact that this issue might be a costly fix so I m probably going to end up bricking it and getting a netbook I would like to try anything that might keep it alive though Thank you nbsp

Got a user who has a Acer 5100-3583 notebook, the keyboard and touchpad are unresponsive after multiple reboots and standard trouble shooting yield no results.? The unit is only 14 months old and out of warranty.
Any clues?

It will read from DVD-ROM drive as it reads a DVD movie when inserted.
No USB devices such as keyboard and mouse work either.

Thanks

A:Acer 5100-3583 notebook keyboard & touchpad frozen..?

- in windows, press Fn+F7 (or the combination you have to activate/deactivate touchpad
- In the bios (press F2 when it appears the ACER screen when booting), be sure that the Tpad is enabled.
Purchase a usb mouse and keyboard and by pass the problem.
Restore to an earlier date to make sure the configuration wasn't dumped somewhere along the line.
Reformat the system.
Check with Acer Site under troubleshooting to see if there are any other solutions.
Last resort and if your capable open casing to check for loose connections. ( It does appear Acer has problems with touchpads frequently)
Luck to you and this is about all the thoughts I came up with right now. Let us know...Jazz

A:Acer Aspire E1-431 Keyboard is not working at all (All key).

Try using the keyboard on another computer and see if it works. If it's a USB keyboard, you should be able to use it on your father's laptop. If NO keys work on EITHER computer, the laptop is most likely ready for the garbage dump. I suppose you could try opening it up and cleaning it, but if it's not a very expensive keyboard I wouldn't even bother. Just replace it.

Ok so I regularly play video games and work on this laptop but for a while when ever I hold the w key and release it the key would still act as if it is being pushed down and would not stop holding itself down. This also happens when I switch tabs and when that happens the w key becomes unresponsive for a while then it is able to be used a couple seconds/minute later. I am not having luck with cleaning the keyboard since there is no space at all to stick a spray in to remove dust or a way I know of to remove the covers of the keyboard but all my other keys are good.

A:Is the a backlit keyboard for an Acer Aspire E5-77...

There is, however, I highly doubt a standard user would ever want to do this. And you will 100% break your warranty, and quite possibly break your computer trying to replace it. It is your own responcibility if you do it. It is not user friendly to implement. But if you really want to risk everything, you can find the part online, but your risk. If you want, you can wait for a ACE member to answer your question.

First, CALM DOWN and look at my profile picture. Calm? Now post your message. If I helped, a Kudos would be great! Marking as solution will help others as well, thank you!

My laptop's keyboard stopped working (only the "a" and "1" keys will work). I believe this to be a hardware problem and would like to know what the exact model for a replacement keyboard is and where I could purchase one. After some researching some opinions said to change the entire top plate of the laptop, if that is a better solution I would need the model for it as well. Thank you

Hello, I have a question about the number of button combination pushed at the same time.I've problem in my favourite game with this, because it isn't workinglike on my old notebook. When I press and hold a certain number of buttons some of them doesn't work. So , it's possible to enable more working combination at the same time on my keyboard, or it's the issue of hardware restriction ? Thanks .

I believe that I have to totally remove and replace the keyboard base with a new one. I just want to know that if I could fix that part by myself. Any help will be appreciated.

A:Acer aspire 5943g keyboard problems

Chances are that the keyboard contacts are wearing out or it is full of dirt, try turning the PC upside down and gently tapping the keyboard, you may be suprised how much dirt comes out of it. You could also get a can of compressed air to blow out all the dirt, but if nothing helps a new keyboard may be the only solution.

I am helping a friend with an Acer Aspire 4330. The problem is some of the keyboard keys produce multiple entries(of varying letter) when pressed. All hardware drivers are updated, however acer shows no keyboard drivers to update. A USB keyboard works fine when plugged in. My question is this: could this be a spyware related issue? I want to make sure before I tear this apart and try cleaning/replacing the keyboard.

A:Acer Aspire 4330 keyboard issue

No, it's not malware if an external keyboard works fine. The problem is with the physical keyboard. Before you start replacing parts, find out what happened to it. If someone spilled something on it, the keyboard might not be the only thing damaged. It looks like an old laptop. Not worth sticking much money into.

Posting on behalf of my girlfriend...

Not sure if it's software or hardware, but she's having an issue with aforementioned notebook keyboard - basically when she's typing in Word and gets up to a reasonable speed, the cursor will jump to an earlier part of the document and words will start to highlight.

Any ideas?

A:Problem with Acer aspire 5720 keyboard

Usually the best fix is to replace the keyboard... about $30 to $50.
Try cleaning it thorougly with a can of difluoroethane gas such as dust off, as sometimes they are just dirty.
You might also attempt disconnecting and reseating all relevant cables.

A:Acer Aspire 5720Z - keyboard blocked

Does she use a PS/2 or USB keyboard.

Repair shops, Salvation Army shops, White Elephant sell boards and mouse for as low as $2.00 to $4.00

Be sure it is not the socket... It is rare to very rare that a PS/2 keyboard will fail, bugt common for a USB keyboard to turn belly up.

Hi there, Several keys have died on my daughter's V5-473P keyboard.  I searched here and all I found were lots of customers complaining about failed keyboards with no answers, so I ordered a $20 replacement keyboard on ebay. My question is about how to remove the top panel/bezel that surrounds the entire keyboard and touchpad?  It seems like any effort to use a thin lever to pry it up would damage it...  Do I need to come at it from the bottom by removing the motherboard, etc?  I'm trying to repair this on the cheap, since it's barely out of warranty and after removing the bottom case, I find it's falling apart around many of the screw holes (the bottom case appears more pricey than the keyboard). Thanks.

Hi!  I am having a hard time trying to find the correct Driver for my Acer Aspire X3470.  Currently I am using the standard PS/2 Keyboard to input commands.  But I do not want to use that Keyboard and I want to use my USB Keyboard. I tried everything to get the right driver for it but I am having no luck at all... is there anyone that could possibly help me identify this problem┐

A:USB Keyboard Drivers do not work Acer Aspire X3470

Hi rnoctus83, The keyboard should have an installation CDC for the driver or once you connected the system should look for the driver automatically, i would suggest to go directly to the manufactures page of your keyboard and look for the driver and installed manually and if it works that way.

Since the external works, it looks like you're ready for a new keyboard, but to be sure try the onscreen one; Accessories>System Tools>Accessibility>On Screen Keyboard. Also please don't post in bold caps. It's considered shouting. Also use the built in font as your post is quite large. Since your OS is Windows 7 and not 9X, I'm moving the thread there.
